    Am learning a lot

I have found that my professors are very helpful and I am learning so much more than I did in high school. i can go to office hours whenever and the professors are willing to help me. The classes are challenging but manageable. Typically, many classes, especially upper-level classes, involve imaginative projects and papers and I am extremely happy that I made the decision to come here.

    Am enjoying being here

I am definitely enjoying being here. There are many clubs and activities to keep me busy when I'm at college. In the year and a half I have been at Geneseo, I have participated in activities including club field hockey, broomball (so much fun), colleges against cancer and the one-of-a-kind GOLD leadership program. I always look forward to coming back to school after breaks.

    Bang for the buck

Geneseo is definitely affordable for students that wouldn't be able to attend a more expensive, private college. It is a great education for an affordable price. There are also many scholarships that students can apply for through Geneseo.

    Tips for prospective students

Try your best in high school classes. Geneseo accepts most AP credits as long as students score at least a 4 on the exam. SAT scores are important so definitely prepare for the SAT and take it again if you aren't satisfied with your score. Also, be involved in clubs in high school and be in a leadership position in clubs. In addition, visit the college if you are interested and contact an admissions counselor. Making contacts is key!

Great for these types of students

Geneseo is perfect for students who don't mind hard work but like to have fun as well. Geneseo students spend a lot of time studying but don't let that intimidate you because the college plans activities at the students union most weekends. Past events have included comedians, hypnotists and square dancing!

    Am learning a lot

Geneseo accepts a lot of academically successful students and education is superb. Geneseo is a liberal arts school so aside from picking from one of many diverse majors, there is a general education requirement. Thus, Geneseo students have an intensive learning program for their major, but also are required to take classes in almost every field of education making them more well rounded. Classes are challenging, but the professors really prepare you for the real world and many classes change the way you think about life in general. It is very common for students to continue discussions from in class even after the class is over and they are walking back to the dorms. Geneseo is also unique in that class sizes are very small and relationships with other students and professors is very easy to do. For mainly freshman one or two classes may have about a hundred students, but by the second week if one were to raise their hand the professor would be able to call on them by name. The professors are dedicated to their students and are always there for advice and support in class and outside of class.

    Am enjoying being here

Geneseo is great in that there is a place for everyone. Geneseo is the type of school where by the end of the first break in October, freshmen tell their parents they cannot wait to go back home. School is part of everyday life but it is the things that happen outside of class that make the experience. There are so many opportunities to make friends and find something to do on campus every day. There's a lot of good options for food, the residence halls are really nice to live in and the dorms themselves are nicely sized. The campus is small enough that walking to class isn't a big deal and if walking isn't your thing then the public transportation is really accommodating to most people's class schedules. Every aspect of Geneseo life can be praised, the only downside is the weather. But that is upstate New York, and nothing a good winter coat can't fix.

    Bang for the buck

Geneseo is one of the few schools that one can receive a stellar education to rival small liberal arts colleges for the price of a public state school. Geneseo has produced a lot of distinguished alumni and an education and experience from here as a whole is priceless. So to be able to receive all of that for such a low cost gives it great value.

    Tips for prospective students

Really have a well rounded resume. Test scores and a high GPA are very important because Geneseo holds its students to high standards, however grades alone are not a guarantee to get in. Geneseo is filled with students who have diverse interests so join a lot of clubs and sports. Also have community service and work experience or any combination of those and demonstrate leadership and dedication to whatever you are passionate about.

Great for these types of students

Geneseo is great for students who really care about receiving a great education, but also like to get involved in things going on around campus. People in Geneseo have so many diverse interests, so really anyone will fit in and enjoy the Geneseo experience.

    Am learning a lot

While attending SUNY Geneseo I have had the fantastic opportunity to study everything that I love. I am a Math and Spanish double major with a certification in Adolescent Education as well as a Coaching certification. The academics here at Geneseo are of a high caliber and really challenge each and every student who attends the college.

    Am enjoying being here

I originally did not want to look at SUNY Geneseo because I did not believe that a public school could be as fantastic as Geneseo truly is. After visiting and attending this college for the past two and a half years, I have to say this is one of the most amazing places you could ever come to. It is really welcoming to everyone, but more importantly everyone is nice here. It is rare for you to find someone who his mean or does not want to help you in any way possible.

    Bang for the buck

SUNY Geneseo is nationally noted for being one of the best Bang for your Buck. If you are a resident of New York State, you can end up going to college for less than other college students pay for one year. Similarly for out-of-state students, the tuition is very reasonable. Considering the high standard of academics that you are receiving at SUNY Geneseo, I fully support the fact that it is one of the Best Bang for your Buck out there.

    Tips for prospective students

As for tips for prospective students, I would have to tell everyone who is thinking about coming to SUNY Geneseo to not be afraid to get involved. Put yourself out there and really try new things because that is how you meet new people. I would also have to advise future Geneseo students that they should really think long and hard about what they are going to major in. It is not necessarily always the best idea to major in something you are good at because eventually you will get bored with it. It is more important to major in something you love, because then you will enjoy it for the rest of your life.

Great for these types of students

SUNY Geneseo is really great for any type of student. Having a student population of around 5,000, there is a group for everyone. There are multiple varsity athletic teams, club teams, sororities, fraternities, and clubs that anyone can join--and with over 150 organizations on campus it is nearly impossible to not find somewhere you fit.

At SUNY Geneseo, we have a reputation for having the best academics out of the entire SUNY system. At Geneseo, there are many opportunities to learn and grow, because there are many classes available to take. For each class, there are also excellent professors teaching, many of whom have doctorates in their fields. Overall, Geneseo has by far the best academics in a public school.

    Am enjoying being here

Located in a small, rural town just minutes from Letchworth State Park, Geneseo has a wonderful small-town charm. Even though Geneseo is a relatively small town, there's always something to do at the college Union, not to mention the hundreds of clubs and organizations that people can join. The most important aspects about the school, however, are the students. Geneseo is filled with some of the most kind and caring students, who are always willing to lend a helping hand or a friendly smile. Anyone who comes to Geneseo will enjoy themselves.

    Bang for the buck

As a state school, SUNY Geneseo is aimed for budgets of the average citizen. It is, needless to say, easy on the wallet.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely take a tour of the college! Try the food and go to the Union whenever you get the chance! Also, try to join whatever clubs catch your interest; they're fun and interesting, you meet a lot of great people, and they look great on job applications.

Great for these types of students

Geneseo is great for people who love close-knit colleges and like smaller colleges with beautiful scenery and great classes and students.

Because it's a liberal arts college, you are required to take certain classes which will allow you to get to know many different topics and majors better to help you decide on yours.

    Am enjoying being here

There are MANY different activities and clubs going on at all times. You will never be bored!

A wonderful college for someone who is very serious about their studies. Is very goal oriented, and has a fairly serious student body. However, there are always the people and opportunities to have a good time.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't go into Geneseo not having a major, because it will put you behind, and they are a very specialized school, with few major options.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are extremely important to any student who attends this college, all you have to do is stop them and ask them, it will be a guaranteed yes.

    Dorm Life

Extremely laid-back and fun. Always music playing, doors opened. Overall it is a very open atmosphere.

    Food and Dining

The food really isn't that bad, it just gets boring because there is the same stuff everyday.

    What to do for fun

Party, hang out with friends, take a trip to Rochester, or go to the Union events.

    Academic Rigor

a great college if you're looking to be challenged academically and professionally. perfect for liberal arts majors or undecided students. one of the best business schools in the western new york area.

    Tips for prospective students

research your potential majors. meet with the professors and ask them plenty of questions about the types of classes they offer and the academic rigor required in your particular major. read everything! even the footnotes. get involved in clubs or groups on campus. geneseo has a great campus community.

    Academic Rigor

the course load is very challenging however the prestige awarded any student who succeeds at geneseo is outstanding. the professors have reached the perfect balance for students wishing to maintain a social life and still remain proactive and successful in their studies.

    Dorm Life

i cannot comment on dorm life, i did not reside on campus during my time at geneseo.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining services are great. the dining halls on campus offer a variety of choices and have begun including gluten-free and vegetarian options as well to cater to the needs of a growing interest in the differing ways of life of students. vending machines exist throughout campus and many of the locations are open late-night. the campus also has a taco bell express and a starbucks.

    What to do for fun

there are many clubs and organizations on campus which continually host events and fundraisers. geneseo late knight group hosts weekly events every friday saturday and sunday night for all students. the activities commission sets up concerts and other events on campus. there are also numerous sporting events to enjoy. relay for life and a yearly gaming convention also take place in the spring semester.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are a couple of interesting traditions at geneseo. first, there is the suess spruce which is a large pine tree located on sturges quad. it is so aptly named because it bears a striking resemblance to the spruce tree in dr. suess's how the grinch stole christmas. also located on sturges quad is the greek tree, a large oak tree that each sorority or fraternity continually paint messages and designs on at different times throughout the year. also, the college has recently jumped on the harry potter bandwagon and formed its own quidditch club.

SUNY at Geneseo is breathtaking from its beautiful purple sunsets to its golden sunrises presents the true definition of a picture perfect historical city. Notwithstanding Geneseo's picturesque streets and friendly quiet neighborhood's it is truly an ideal learning environment for students.

    Tips for prospective students

My number one an only tip for prospective students is, let your professor know who you are even if you are passing the class with flying colors or when your in danger of failing the class.

    Academic Rigor

SUNY Geneseo's academic rigor is exceptional and expected for a school that is nicknamed the Harvard of SUNY school's. Geneseo has professor's that are always willing to help if you go see them as they help you get your targeted grade in any of the academically challenging science and arts courses.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life in my opinion depends largely on the particular dorm a person is in, for example if you are in Onondaga an only freshmen dorm it gets pretty loud in the evenings at times. But over all when it is time for finals you can literally drop a pin in the hall way and hear it.

    Food and Dining

The food in Geneseo is pretty good as you can not expect it to taste the same way home food tastes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the traditions i find interesting is the everyday painting of a big old tree in the university square as everyday soroties and fraternities change the design, color and pattern on the tree to arcane and fascinating colors.

    Campus Safety

Geneseo is an extremely safe environment. Even at 3am in the morning it feels like its 12 noon, as the university polices presence is felt in around the campus.

    Am learning a lot

I like a lot of my professors and classes. The only class which I feel is a bit of a waste of time is digital photography, since the professor has a very confusing teaching style, and his grading system is very strange. However, most professors are very willing to give you extra help, and give good lectures. Some professors are harder graders than others, but so far I wouldn't call any of them unreasonable in terms of grading. Geneseo isn't a school where you can come and not do the work. You are held to a high academic standard here, and you will learn a lot. Once in a while, you might get a not-so-great professor, but they are the exception, not the rule.

    Am enjoying being here

I love how friendly Geneseo students are. In high school. a senior would never talk to a freshman, but here you can be friends with anyone. Everyone's always willing to help you out. The campus is nice, and has gorgeous views. The rooms in my building are a bit small, but that's to be expected. It's a bit rural for my taste, but there is Main street which has some restaurants and cute shops. Rochester is easy driving distance if you have a car, and there's a Walmart, a grocery store, and some other stores in easy driving distance as well. The walks to class can be a bit long, especially when it's cold, but it's nothing you can't get used to. The food could be better, but again, it is college. Even if you're someone who can't have gluten, or if you're a vegetarian or a veagan or whatever, the college has plenty of options for you, and if you are having problems finding food for you and you e-mail them, they are totally willing to help you out. It's really easy to be active in the Geneseo comunity. There are so many musical organizations, community service opportunities, sports, theater, dancing, humans vs. zombies, and cultural organizations to participate in. There are clubs for pretty much every major, as well. Plus Geneseo has GOLD (Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development) which are actually pretty renowned. Dartmouth recently purchased this idea from Geneseo, actually. They're hour long leadership workshops, which are really interesting and the certificates you can earn look great on grad school apps, resumes, whatever. There are also plenty of parties for people who want that aspect of the college experience. There are a lot of Greek organization for students who are interested in that, as well.

    Bang for the buck

Having SUNY Geneseo on your resume won't hurt you at any job interview, and you can't beat the price. Sadly, public schools don't tend to have as many scholarships as private schools, so some people actually pay less at private schools, but if you're someone who doesn't think that they'll get scholarships, or isn't eligible for finanical aid, this school is a great option for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in Geneseo life! There are so many ways to get involved in organizations on campus and in the Geneseo community.
Go to class, and do the reading. Half of doing well in college is being ready to put in the work. You can't get away with doing the same amount of studying you did in high school. College isn't impossible to do well in, you just have to be ready to do the work.
Buy warm clothing. It gets cold up here. Really, really cold.
Hope that you like your roomate. You will be living with them in a tiny room for a year.
Check out Geneseo on facebook and youtube. It'll give you a pretty good idea of what the college is like. Visit it, too. See if you like the setting, the buildings, etc. Sometimes that's enough to tell you that you want to come here, or if you hate it.

Great for these types of students

People who don't mind being in the country, enjoy doing a variety of extra-curricular activities and study! Geneseo is the perfect place for good students who also like to get involved on campus and like to have fun.

There are a lot of different classes you can choose from, even in your core, so you can find ones that you will be interested in quite easily. Professors are wonderful, and always available to contact outside of class with questions. Lecture sizes vary, but are still enjoyable. Most classes hold review sessions before important tests, and professors are more than willing to help beyond that.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a wonderful enviroment and a beautiful campus. The college always has events on weekends to attend that are very fun and getting students involved. There is every club imaginable, and you can always create one if there's not. Students are always nice to everyone, and the professors are pleasant. The food is decent, and there's always Main Street for those middle of the night cravings.

    Bang for the buck

It's a SUNY school, so you're getting the SUNY price. But it's the best SUNY school, so your also getting the education. It's a very good school, and most people are there because it's the education level for a better price than private schools.

    Tips for prospective students

It's windy, so bring a scarf. I wish I had known that before. The weather is much colder than New York City, and really similar to central New York if you can relate.

Great for these types of students

It's a smaller, more intimate school. Students looking for a happy environment to get a great education. The education program is strong, and the science building is new. The bio program is also really big.

While my first semester wasn't the most successful due to my own pigheadedness, advisors are there to help. They really want to see you succeed and while they don't hold your hand like they do in high school they definitely show they care. The teacher's are great and interactive and always excited for office hours, there has never been a time where I have felt that I was a burden on a teacher I was getting help from -- they really want to see you succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

I mean don't get me wrong it's an awesome school but it's ver rural, and rural doesn't even being to explain it. It's got a small town chic that you grow to appreciate and it's wonderful in it's own right (you don't have as many distractions). That being said you can, if you so decide, go out and find stuff to do on any given day. It's a very open, pretty and friendly campus.

    Bang for the buck

Bang for your buck doesn't even begin to explain the deal I struck at Geneseo.

    Tips for prospective students

The only tip I have is to leave high school stuff behind you and to embrace your new home. It will be weird, awkward and scary but everyone is in the same boat, everyone is in some way sympathetic. Try and leave your door open the first week, you'll never know who you'll meet.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who are already dedicated and focus and for those who are trying to emulate the afore mentioned student. Geneseo really makes a clear statement about what it wants and expects from its students.
