Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the teachers I've had have been great and are dedicated to helping their students. It may be a party school, but don't be fooled - the classes can be rigorous.
Am enjoying being here There are so many things to do. What with all the clubs, the ARC, pool, bowling, concerts, and nearby beaches, there's no way you can get bored.
Bang for the buck The recent increase in cost of registration was kind of a bummer, but it's still affordable.
Tips for prospective students If you live in the dorms, definitely make use of your free gym membership. Also, check out the plays put on by the theatre department, or go watch the student film festival. Periodically there are also free movie screenings on campus.
Great for these types of students Active, outdoorsy/adventurous, social, studious

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have definitely learned new information and facts I did not know prior to attending SDSU. All professors are unique with their own way of helping students learn the material. Professor's office hours are so helpful and fitting to your schedule, and if they are not professors go out of their way to make a personal appointment to meet with you at your best time. The Lovely Library is amazing, it offers so many resources for your project needs and something very special that not many libraries have are it offers a 24 Hour Study Area! This study area is open to all SDSU students needing that extra time to finish up their studies or school work.
Am enjoying being here You will never have a dull moment at SDSU! Events are constantly being held for all students year round. The gym is a fantastic place to go exercise and release stress and energy! The ARC offers a relaxing environment to take a swim and be with friends. There’s even a bowling arena which includes a pool table and arcade games for all of you gamers out there!
Bang for the buck Recently tuition went up along with many other CSU's in California, so make sure you have some money saved because SDSU is fantastic but it’s also expensive. It's definitely worth the money though.
Tips for prospective students For all incoming freshmen i strongly recommend that you live on campus at a dorm, it’s a fantastic way to make new friends and to find people who you can live with your sophomore year. Plus you’re much more involved in campus activities when you live at the dorms. Campus activities are so much fun and a great way to be social. Activities include carnivals, concerts, casino nights, dances, games, BBQ's, outdoor movie nights and much more. Also by living in a dorm you receive access to an AM (Academic Mentor), this person can help you plan your upcoming semester classes, give you advice on school work, look over your schoolwork and much more, they are a great resource for freshmen.
Great for these types of students Students that love nature scenery will love SDSU. The college is full of beautiful nature which includes hundreds of different types of plants, flowers, and trees. In the middle of the school is a coy pond full of fish and turtles, this pond is so relaxing to visit during a break or just to lie down on the grass and take a nap. If you want to go outside the college area there are beaches and parks in very close distance. Students that want or are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, our Greek system is fantastic and has a huge range from the Pan-Hellenic to cultural fraternities and sororities. I’m sure you’ll find one that is perfect for you; it’s a great way to be social and make new friends! Active students will enjoy the many different sports SDSU has to offer from division to intramural sports, or for those who love attending sporting events our men’s basketball team is a sight to see.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I feel like I am learning a lot not only because of the professors but because of my own effort. All the professors I have had are very intelligent, each with their own knowledge in certain fields. They provide you with all the information and help that you need to successfully and fully understand the material.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here because of the location in San Diego. Its not to far of a commute from my house and it close to many places in that San Diego Area. I also like the weather and I have met many nice and helpful students.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit the campus first to see if you like the environment. Meet new people and surround yourself with good group of friends that you can work with throughout the semester.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot From my experience the professors are entertaining and informational so class isn't completely boring.
Am enjoying being here There's always something to do here, its a very relaxed environment. You can always find someone sleeping on a bench or in the grass, or playing music. We have a bowling alley, our own gym, intramural sports. There is a farmers market every Thursday, great food, produce, and even clothes. There's lots of ways to meet new people.
Tips for prospective students Once you get to college, any college, study study study. Don't put off studying until the last minute, it doesn't work trust me. I never had to study in high school because I learned all I needed to know in class but, in college you only get half the lesson, the rest you have to teach yourself by reading your text book. Practice good study habits! I can't stress that enough because no matter how smart you are if you don't study, when the test comes you won't understand anything. Tests are basically your whole grade so do good on those and you will be fine. If your planning on working during school, find a job on campus, it pays well and they work around your class schedule. Don't overwhelm yourself by taking too many classes at once. I recommend taking 12 units (approx. 4 classes) so you can get a feel for the college experience and still qualify for financial aid. By taking less classes it also allows you room for extracurricular activities.

Am enjoying being here I enjoy being there very much. The campus is beautiful and mostly all restored to make it more of beautiful campus. There are many clubs and activities around for you to do and join. It is guaranteed that you will never be bored and that you will learn a lot.
Bang for the buck Not only are you getting an amazing education for the price, but you will be getting a campus that is filled with school spirit and activities. It is similar to getting an Ivy-League school education for half the price.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to fill out the FAFSA ecause SDSU is very gracious with financial aid. Also, be sure to get involved in something fun when on campus. It makes school a lot easier.
Great for these types of students This is an AMAZING school for Pre-Nursing students. SDSU is one of the top nursing schools in America. They also have an amazing Pre-Med advisor.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With such a large university, there are so many interesting classes and majors.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do at SDSU and in San Diego. With so many diverse people, you will love your four years here! Definitely get involved your freshman year, with clubs, student government, and sports.
Bang for the buck Being a Cal State School, tuition is extremely low for the great professors you will meet, the many services you get for free, and the gorgeous campus.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply early! Rumor has it they stop viewing applications after they receive a certain amount. Make sure to research the new admission requirements, they just changed them.
Great for these types of students Social, outgoing, and active.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Every class at this university can be applied to the real world. The professors and teaching assistants have a genuine interest in their field of study and enjoy informing others about their passion. Also, the student tend to be very adamant about learning and helping their peers learn.
Am enjoying being here San Diego itself is a wonderful place to live. San Diego State University is just as great, except the beach isn't in our backyard. However, the atmosphere of this university and the people make the experience at SDSU one of the best I have had in my life.
Bang for the buck I'm sure this is a fairly typical statement for most college students nowadays... Stop raising the registration fees! Just this past month we had a student panel about raising the fee for the Student Health Services Center. Associated Students wanted to more than double the fee! Well, thanks to the input of the students and staff, that initiative did not go through. So make sure to be involved in your university's decision-making process!
Tips for prospective students If you're going into any field of study here, prepare to be challenged. Though the material itself isn't so hard to understand, and the workload is not unfair, the atmosphere of San Diego can suck you in and take hold. Make sure to prioritize your life. The cost of the institution should say it all; College is important!
Great for these types of students Social and fun, San Diego State University is perfect for those who would like to break out if their shell, make new friends, and get a good tan ;) It does take a bit of work, but in the end, it's totally worth it!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am actually learning a lot here at State. Even though I am from San Diego and I didn't want to go very far away from home, I am glad with the decision I made. If you are from San Diego and you choose to go to State, I'd live on campus if you could. You really get out of your comfort zone and even though you are from the same city, it is like as if you went away for college. Plus all the teachers are friendly and the Resident Adviser will help you with any questions you may have.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying it here a lot more than I thought. There is so many things you can do on campus like going to the Arc, which is the gym, to going to the Aquaplex, which is this really nice place where you can swim. Also there is even a blowing ally on campus! How cool is that?? It is amazing here!
Bang for the buck Even though college is expensive, San Diego State is a lot cheaper than a private school or even a UC school. And on top of things, San Diego State University is one of the best state school in California!! So you are getting a good education for going to a state school!
Tips for prospective students If I were thinking about where I wanted to go to school I would make sure to check out the schools that I am applying to. Also make sure you like hot weather because San Diego can get pretty hot. Also just remember then when signing up for classes you make sure these are the classes you need to graduate with your major.
Great for these types of students San Diego State is perfect for students who love warm weather!! There is a bunch of public transportation which can take you to almost everywhere around San Diego. Also it is a great school for students who want to pursue a degree in almost anything. San Diego State appeals to almost everyone and you should come check it out!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are great! The campus staff offers tons of help to pick out your classes to make sure you are utilizing your time and expediting your stay here on campus. I am currently taking Sociology, Political Science, Spanish, Communication, Rhetoric Writing Studies...these class are great and have GREAT professors that are there for you. Everyday I love going to class because there is so much knowledge to be had. I believe that I have had an extraordinary academic experience at SDSU and am hopeful that my experience will continue throughout my four years here. If you want to learn with the best of the best then come to SDSU.
Am enjoying being here I feel like I am having the time of my life. My roommates are my best friends and I am excelling in all my classes. I feel myself getting closer and closer to my life long goal of finding a great career. I can give my college full credit for the reason why I am heading in the good direction that I am. SDSU, I feel is my main supporters of my success. I have worked my entire academic career on getting into a great campus and I know that I have made the right choice by going here.
Bang for the buck Though college in general tends to be a pretty pricey experience. The Cal State System tries to limit the fees and make it a more affordable experience. The FAFSA help me but I did still have to take out some loans, but with the experience that I am having it is all worth it. I love every minute I am here on campus. I believe every penny is worth it. If I chose to go to a local community college because of the costs I believe I would not be as successful as I am today, because I believe I am paying for the experience and in hand with that boosts my education. So when someone asks me, Is it worth it? I would reply yes every time.
Tips for prospective students Live on Campus. The housing on campus is amazing. THe rooms are clean, big and it is the best way to meet new people. Along with the housing you are given a meal plan as well, which makes it easy and convenient to get any groceries you need. This campus is safe. Another peice of advice I have for you is to get involved and utilize what our campus offers. We have a state-of-the-art gym with sauna and rock wall. This makes it easy to get fit. If you are not the type to get on a treadmill and run, SDSU also has a huge aquaplex and bowling alley that offers fun and easy ways to get in shape.
Great for these types of students SDSU is great for any type of student. If you are more of a bookworm, our campus offers a wonderful library with abundant quiet areas to get your work done. If you are more of the social type then our school offers many on-campus events that are free of charge and are lots of fun.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Despite what most people say about the difficulty of learning in large classrooms, the amount of learning that goes on within is tremendous. Yes maybe you wont have time to ask 10 questions in class, but every professor has set aside office hours for students who need help, guidance, pretty much anything they can help you with. SDSU is filled with some of the most amazing professors who really care about their students success and learning and are passionate about their subject.
Am enjoying being here The campus of SDSU is very beautiful. There are many places on campus that you can go to relax and de-stress. The people that go here are nice and laid back. The location of the campus is prime; just 10 minutes away from pretty much ANY beach, the best malls in SD, food, downtown, etc.
Bang for the buck I know tuition it is pretty expensive, even for instate. But the way I think about it: I'm paying for my future. Don't be afraid to use your resources, there are so many! I talk to my professors about any questions I may have about the class or even about my future plans. They are there to help, so why not use them?
Tips for prospective students Don't let freshman year GPA bring you down! It may be hard to adjust to the college style of learning but come in expecting that and it will be easier for you to adapt to it. The classes you take freshman year will be some of the easiest you will ever take and it will be a shame to miss out on a GPA boost.
Talk to your professors! I can't even say how important it is. I know some may be intimidating, but that's their job so don't be afraid. Trust me, if you talk to your professors when you have questions (about anything!) you will be very thankful you did.Great for these types of students Ambitious, studious, outgoing, laid back, social, antisocial....Honestly, this school is good for any student who wants to go to college and get a great education and an unforgettable, unregrettable, experience!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Despite the large class sizes here at San Diego State University, the teachers are willing to set aside office hours for students to attend and receive help. A lot of subjects offer drop in tutoring, if you come prepared with questions and the assignment details these tutors are willing to sit down with you and help you understand and make your work better. Also, there are Star Centers, a quiet study room with resources such as printing, computers, and internet, located in some of the dorms.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying it here at San Diego State University because there is always something to do, the teachers care about my education, and a lot of the school sponsored events are free to students as long as you have your RedID. Living in the residents halls allows me to meet people in my age group that have the same type of classes, and allows me to make friends with people I will see almost everyday.
Bang for the buck Despite the financial crunch in the education system, San Diego State University has been able to eliminate furlough days, days where professors take an unpaid leave from the school, aren't allowed to have contact with students, not even answer emails. San Diego State University offers a variety of events often school sponsored free to students.
Tips for prospective students If you are out of state be sure that you are ready for the rough experience of being away from home and your family. Be ready to spend 3 hours of outside time per each unit you are taking. Try to find a group you are interested in joining, or possibly an intermural sport.
Great for these types of students Great for students looking for a bigger, diverse campus, hard working, and willing to join a group. Students should be prepared to study three hours per each unit they are taking, and utilize the campus resources such as drop in tutoring, the Star Centers, and Love Library.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The environment is so welcoming and diverse that I know I will learn so much not only from my professors but from the students I'll interact with everyday. I was accepted into the Honors Program and it is great to know that SDSU has a program like this one that opens up so many doors for its participants. I am extremely excited to attend especially since study abroad is mandatory for the program!
Will enjoy being here I've lived in San Diego since I was 3 but I've never fully had the chance to experience this amazing city. So many people come here for vacations and spring breaks, but I live here! I cannot wait to roam around and enjoy my college experience.
Bang for the buck SDSU is one of the best state schools anywhere. My estimated cost of attendance is $23,232. For the education I will be receiving, I'm willing to pay this much (with help from grants, scholarships, and loans). Anyone can go to a humdrum university and pay $45,000 and still not receive an education as good as mine. I am very proud to say that I will be an Aztec.
Tips for prospective students Don't limit yourself by thinking you have to go to a University because it looks better or you have to go to community college because it's cheaper. You need to find your perfect fit and limiting yourself early on will only hurt you in the end. I told myself as a freshman that I would never lower my standards and go to anything lower than a prestigious university. During my junior year, I took a trip up the coast of California visiting universities and state schools to help us gain some idea of what we were looking for in a campus. During that trip I fell in LOVE with UC Merced, Berkeley, and UC Davis. But, on that trip I learned that just because I like a school does not mean it is the perfect fit for me. Not all of the schools I wanted had my film major and not all of them were affordable. SDSU offered me so many opportunities that I was looking for all in one school. They are the perfect fit. Think of it like the perfect spouse: you may have had your ideal image since you were a child, but when Mr. Right walks in fitting everything you want and more, you gotta go for it!
Great for these types of students Laid-back, hardworking, enthusiastic, determined, social, flexible, accepting, understanding, unique, artists, writers, filmmakers, engineers, business people, etc. Anyone will fit in and find their niche at San Diego State University.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes here are definitely challenging especially if you start slacking off. There is a lot of reading (mainly because I'm an English major) but it's always really interesting. Although there are certain sets of required classes we need to take, there's a wide variety of other courses you can take as well so there's always something that you can take of interest to you.
Am enjoying being here Even though I was freaked out the first week I was at this school, I soon adapted to everything really well as did everyone else that I know. It's been really fun living in the dorms with a bunch of friends who you can always visit. Also, there is always something to do here whether it's something put on by the school, going to a party, or just hanging around with a bunch of friends from your dorm. As long as you try to get involved with everything that is almost handed to you, you'll never be bored.
Tips for prospective students Whether you're ready to get into the college life or are scared out of your mind to be away from home, everything will work out fine. Yes, that sounds cliche but everyone I know has adapted incredibly well to college life. It feels just like home and no one really feels homesick either. Sure there are times when people miss their families and beds but that's about it. Also, just a heads up, if you're one of those people that take really long showers, that won't work here too will because I can guarantee and that, since these are communal showers, you will want to get out of the shower as quickly as possible.
Also, just remember that you're going to have less space in the dorms that you did at home probably and therefore you shouldn't bring every single thing in your room but then again, don't just bring the bare minimum either because then you'll feel like you under packed; bring the necessities as well as some things you really like and just want to have to do in your spare time but the more stuff you have, the messier your room will look.
The meal plans are kind of crazy and there's so much food on campus that you will not go hungry. However, it is definitely nice to have some snacks stored away in your room for those late nights or weekends (depending on your meal plan). The freshman 15 is definitely not a myth either so take advantage of your gym membership as much as you can.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I have taken an introduction to social work class at SDSU and I learned a lot. The instructor was fun and resourceful but demanded a lot of attention and commitment to his course.
Will enjoy being here This school is full of social events so you always have something to do every night of the week. The extracurricular, sports, and student government make it an exciting place to attend.
Bang for the buck At SDSU you get the quality professors of UC universities but with the cost of a state school.
Tips for prospective students Remember that you alone decide what type of education you will have regardless of where you end up attending.
Great for these types of students Great for students looking to get a quality education and have fun at the same time. SDSU is at a prime location and is full of fun, energetic students ready to have fun.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I strongly believe that in attending SDSU, I will attain the sense of self-sufficiency that I will need to succeed in life. The fact is clear that it may be a challenge being out there on your own with little assistance, but you have to remind yourself that the curriculum is not as rigid as the the ones held by the UC system.
Will enjoy being here I definitely believe that I am going to enjoy the experience at SDSU. I will do everything that I enjoy doing in high school, but in college at its own scheduled time. This includes playing trading cards games such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, weight training, studying at the library, and hanging out with my friends on the weekends.
Bang for the buck In terms of cash spent, I strongly believe that this is the best-suited choice in the CSU system. My AP Government teacher that I've had for a couple of years wouldn't be reluctant to agree, because he's the one that told me this fact. Despite tuition increasing each year at a noticeable rate, its affordability is far ahead from those of UC schools.
Tips for prospective students My only tip for fellow students that plan to attend to this college is this: do not, by any chance, get distracted. SDSU is known as one of the leading party schools, and let this come off as a warning. Your main purpose in attending a four-year university is for you to study hard.
Great for these types of students I strongly believe that this kind of university is good for those who are self-sufficient and sociable people that can afford to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is usual to get a bad teacher at any college, or a teacher that does not teach to your learning style. I found that this has happened to me at San Diego State but I find more frequently that the professors here and the teaching assistants like to make learning as easy and as fun as it can be for you as a student. They know how hard it is to go to college and balance all the rest of your responsibilities.
Am enjoying being here I love going to school in San Diego. The school is in a closed off enough area to keep you from distractions during the school week. However there is great transportation such as the MTS trolley and Bus stop located right on campus which will take you almost anywhere you can imagine in the area.
Bang for the buck The tuition and housing prices go along with many of the other CSU's however if you like to cook and make your own meals and you live on campus you can find this to be expensive because of meal plans. However if you are okay with eating in the dining hall or going to one of the many campus restaurants the meal plan seems very reasonable.
Tips for prospective students A tip for you as a prospective student would to be trying out on campus housing for your first year. It is a great way to meet friends and get involved in campus activities.
Great for these types of students San Diego State University is a great college for the types of students who like to have a fun learning environment. I find it easy to get a professor to relate to your needs.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot At first I was so scared of the high numbers in the classes, coming from a smaller public school, it is a big jump for me. But the more I talked to my friends going there and people around the campus, it seemed like it wasn't that big of a deal. Most said their biggest class was around 40-50 people. Not that bad for SDSU being as big as it is. As far as I hear, most of the professors are also very approachable. I don't think anyone will have a problem learning here as long as their head is in the game and they stay on top of things.
Will enjoy being here The only reason why i didnt put 5 stars is because of the unknown factor! I am very confident that SDSU has the right kind of mixture for success. It's doable finance wise, it's got a great social atmosphere, and the school is one of the best state schools to go to.
Bang for the buck For being a state school thats near the ocean and has quite a few well-off majors and has one the biggest study-abroad programs to date, it is a decent bang for the buck. as long as you graduate...i'd say its all worth it in the end.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit the campus...but dont be intimidated by size. The first time I stepped on campus I said right awayNo to my mother. after taking a tour and going to a few other campuses that were much smaller than SDSU, I realized that I didn't want to know an entire campus by the time I moved in as a Freshman. I wanted to find new things and not get bored. I think SDSU, after awhile, won't be so big after I explore.
Great for these types of students Anyone really. Studious, Outgoing, Independent, and Ambitious people will really excell here I think. (but even the opposites of these will probably find their niche... I mean theres got to be someone who feels the same way you do. There's a lot of people.)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even though the class sizes are large, the professors are very engaging and knowledgeable.
Am enjoying being here Aside from the party life, there are many events on and around campus. There are musical performances, school based activities, the gym, a beautiful pool, and even a relaxing turtle pond to recuperate. On top of that, there is a vast amount of school spirit because of our extravagant basketball team.
Bang for the buck School is obviously pricey nowadays so for the education provided, it is definitely reasonable.
Tips for prospective students Always register for classes as soon as possible. Classes may run out quickly. Get to know the 24 hour Love Library, it will be your best friend!
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who are looking for a very diverse campus full of life and sunshine.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences san diego state university is full of diverse and unique people. even if you don't know exactly what you want to learn, sdsu is full of majors to explore and dip your toes into. there's always something to participate in!
Tips for prospective students don't underestimate the fact that you get to have breaks between classes. it's just as hard as going to class 8 hours straight, maybe even harder. you have to have the self control to not be tempted to ditch class somedays. do the reading! just because you have lecture classes and they don't get homework, you're going to fall behind if you don't read.
Academic Rigor especially in classes you don't really enjoy, but have to take for ge's. make sure to keep up with those as much as the classes that seem much more interesting.
Dorm Life even if you don't have a roommate or don't get along with your roommate, if you have a good floor things will be okay. dorm mates make just as good friends. plus, that means more people for advice and study partners.
Food and Dining cuicacalli is delicious, but not as an everyday place to go. however, if you don't want food from the cafeteria, then you result in fast food places at east and west commons. as much as panda express can sound good, it can get quite sickening...all and all, food is average. being able to make your own food wins every time.
What to do for fun san diego state university is surrounded by beaches, malls and parks! but on campus, there's basketball games, volleyball games etc. and to get to football games, take our very own trolley to san diego chargers very own qualcomm stadium to watch our aztecs play. however, if you have a car, or even take the trolley, you can get to the san diego zoo, sea world, pacific beach, mission beach boardwalk etc.san diego is definitely the place to be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus turtle pond! we have a great koi and turtle pond near scripps cottage on campus. it's quite relaxing to lay by the pond and do homework.
Greek Life greek life is always fun, sdsu has panhellenic, ifc, and multicultural fraternities and sororities. there's so many events that you can be a part of, and make lifelong friends.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences san diego state university is a great campus with fun loving students who get along well with one another. however, student fees and tuition has increased every year for the last three years. overall, san diego state is a good school with lots of knowledgeable professors and lecturers who want to set you on the rigght path.
Tips for prospective students if you aren't panning on living on campus try to take public transportation. the parking and traffic situation in the area is pretty bad.
Academic Rigor depending on your major choice you could be working your butt off, or just cruising on through.
Food and Dining on campus dining is a little pricey but there is a lot of selection. however there are some good places to eat a short walk off of campus.
What to do for fun there's plenty to do in san diego depending on your interests. parties and clubs, beaches, mountains, malls...it all depends on what you like to do.
Bang for the buck student fees keep going up, it seems like every year the california state budget is cutting money from the schools so the board of trustees keeps raising the fees.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the undie run is a local favorite. guys and gals run through campus at dusk in their underwear for a charitable cause.
Clubs and Activities there are a wide variety of clubs for all the different things you might be interested in.
Greek Life there are numerous greek organizations who operate on campus.
Campus Safety sdsu has its own campus police, they claim a 1 mile radius around the school as their jurisdiction. also, for those who may not like walking to your car at night, there are the blue phones all over campus, you can call for an escort or call and notify the police of something that doesn't seem quite right. i feel it's a safe campus.

Academic Rigor san diego state is one of the most rigorous schools in the csu system, however with hard work and dedication great things will happen.
Dorm Life i have never lived in the dorms however they look really nice.
Food and Dining i love eating at school they have everything, even a starbucks.
What to do for fun i love to work out, wakeboard, and enjoy the san diego sunshine!
Bang for the buck san diego state is a excellent school, however i believe tuition could be a bit lower.
Great for these types of students san diego state is made for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences sdsu is a great university that has a perfect blend of academics and social atmosphere. i had the best time here taking interesting classes from qualified instructors. i also met so many new people.
Tips for prospective students apply early. maintain a high gpa regardless of whether you are in hs or a transfer student. if transferring, considering transferring into a less popular/non-impacted major.
Academic Rigor it really depends on the instructor. i've taken classes where almost everyone passes with an a and others where the highest grade is a b.
Dorm Life i didn't live in the dorms because they were full. but my friends liked the social aspect of them. rooms are very small and if you get a bad roommate there is not much to do.
Food and Dining there were many options on campus, all good, especially salad sensations or daphne's greek cafe.
What to do for fun if you are under 21, all the sporting events are fun. sometimes sdsu gives away food or tshirts to the first attendees. if you are older, downtown and pb have some great bars/clubs.
Bang for the buck for the cost of this school (tuition, books, etc.), academic rigor, social scene and all around atmosphere, you can't get any better. i would recommend it to anyone. there are so many academic programs here that are all revered. i will most likely go back to complete a graduate program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus zura hall (dorm) and adams humanities (class building) were constructed very interestingly. they are like a maze. there is a turtle pond that is nice to relax by between classes.
Great for these types of students anyone who wants a value and also wants a great education.
Clubs and Activities a few different ones to choose from, from personal hobbies to honor societies.
Greek Life not really big here since the drug bust in 2007. many sororities/fraternities were suspended.
Campus Safety the campus is relatively safe. the immediate area surrounding isn't the best. i know people who have been robbed or assaulted. don't walk alone at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love san diego state, it is centrally located and in the middle of the city and the campus is beautiful. yes it does have traffic like any other school, but it offers many programs to major in. state has a lot to offer and can more than hold its' own against the other schools in san diego.
Tips for prospective students apply and have all documents in order. meet with the academic advisor towards the end of your first semester, because they will set you up with a plan for the rest of your college career. if you are parking on campus, get there early and you will find plenty of parking. be involved on campus and have fun!
Academic Rigor depending on the class and the major, the difficulty can vary. psychology classes are relatively easy, while accounting and nursing majors are very rigorous. the classes are very straightforward, if you do the work and study you should do well.
Dorm Life dorm life is hectic and hard to get any studying in, depending on te building and floor you are in. many people have to go to the library to study because the dorms can be disruptive.
Food and Dining there is a variety of food on campus. the market is a great place to pick up snacks and meals. the make-your-own salad bar is great!! 4.0 deli just of campus is a great place for sandwiches. the thursday farmer's market is a great place for food!
What to do for fun aztec nights is a lot of fun. the clubs on campus have many different activities throughout the semester. throughout the semester there are many events across campus that occur and some even offer free food. the booths on centennial walkway right before winter break have tons of crafts and gifts that can be bought for family or for yourself.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Great for an away from home college experience. Has amazing weather that will lift up the spirits on the way to class. This school is ran by it's greek system and is a great one to get involved in.
Tips for prospective students Be social and participate in the first week's events to meet friends, find romances, and great study buddies for the entire year. Prepare yourself for an excellent school experience.
Academic Rigor I am a mechanical engineering major in my third year of classes. I have never once had a class that is not manageable. One must come into this school with the mindset of wanting to learn and being ready to put the work in to get the necessary results.
Dorm Life I lived in the Tenochca residence halls where living was great. I was a social butterfly and still have friends that I hang out with. The rooms were average but were never too hot in the summer, and never too cold in the winter. There was probably about two or three weeks where we did have to take cold showers due to some maintenance issues.
Food and Dining The food on campus was great. There is a Taco Bell, Sub sandwich place, Panda Express, Rubio's, about 2 pizza places, plenty of Starbuck's locations, and a buffet style dining hall that mixes up food nights to keep some variety.
What to do for fun Anything.
Bang for the buck The food on campus is a little pricy but with the meal plans freshman are required to have it's okay. Once off the meal plan, depending on if one can cook or not, its better. Books and classes are expensive, but it is a four year university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The aztec recreation center is the tradition that the majority of the students take part in once attending sdsu. It's the gym. It becomes a great stress reliever, a nice social spot, and a way of life.
Great for these types of students Once on campus, one can walk to any class in a matter of 10 minutes. Class sizes are about 100-300 students for general education classes but tend to decrease as one gets more into major classes. Many clubs and activities are available for those wanting to get involved, as well as plenty of study and quiet space for those wanting to get away.
Clubs and Activities I participate on about 5-6 intramural teams throughout the year in football and soccer. The programs are run very well and are organized.
Greek Life I am currently in Sigma Phi Epsilon as the Vice President of Finance and wouldn't have it any other way. The greek life here is very social and is very proactive in helping out the surrounding community. I have no negative comments about the greeks here other than the fact that I wish there were more!
Campus Safety I have been going to this school for about three years now and have never had a problem with my own personal safety. I have had friends who have had their bicycles stolen, but other than that it's great!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences San Diego State is a nice college with beautiful campus. The teachers are passionate about their classes and are there to assist students in excelling in their academics. The dorms are nice and the food is pretty good.
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus and walk around the buildings. Drop in on any classes you may want to take as a student, and see if it all works out for you.
Academic Rigor The classes can be challenging, but they are manageable. If students set time aside for homework and put the effort into studying for tests, they will be fine.
Dorm Life I live in Chappy at San Diego State. It is a nice dorm, but about a twenty minute walk from all the other dorms. Everyone who lives here is really bonded with their own floor and people mostly stay in the social group of their floor. However, the whole building is very friendly.
Food and Dining San Diego State University has two markets on campus as well as two others by the dorms. The markets sell a variety of foods from fresh fruit to chips and salsa. There are also two food courts on campus and a dining hall by the dorms. The dining hall food is generally pretty good.
What to do for fun For fun, students can go to the sports games and support their school. Football games are fun, and especially basketball games. Basketball games are a big deal for San Diego State and the tickets usually run out and the stadium is packed full of students and locals.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus San Diego State has a nice turtle pond on campus by parking structure four. The turtle's aren't always out, but they are fun to watch when they are. The pond is also filled with large coi fish.
Campus Safety I have never felt threatened when on campus and we have a police station located almost on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences San Diego Sate University has great academic opportunities in the sciences. The professors seem to care both about their research and the education of their students. SDSU also offers great campus opportunities for those who wish to be active in their community and nation.
Tips for prospective students State has a great opportunities both academically and in the area of campus life. Take your classes seriously and allow enough time for studying and to take advantage of the professor's office hours for the more difficult classes and you'll be successful academically.
Academic Rigor The professors are reasonable and do a good job of adapting their grading scale to the difficulty of the class. The education offered is definitely legitimate and can be challenge. You get the most out of the degree you get.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, but I've heard good things about dorm life. The dorms seem conveniently positioned in relation to the main campus.
Food and Dining SDSU offers a wide variety of food, from fast food to more healthy choices. The on campus convenience stores provide even more variety.
What to do for fun There are plenty of campus opportunities in the forms of clubs and organizations.
Bang for the buck Tuition is very reasonable and the education received seems legitimate - both challenging and quality.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is nothing I am aware of that fits in this category.
Great for these types of students State is great for both the academically-focused and social butterflies. State offers great research programs even for undergraduates. Additionally, there are plenty of organizations and clubs to join for those wishing to get active in the community.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of offerings for any interest.
Greek Life Greek life is big on campus and a focus of social life.
Campus Safety While the large campus makes the campus a little dangerous at night, there is campus security. The application of the buddy system - or just avoiding cross campus journeys at night - makes the campus completely safe.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot For being a first year student i never imagined i would learn so many things. Throughout all my classes i have learned a variety of things. This is not only because it is college the professors are very supportive and show enthusiasm when teaching the subject. Most professors make learning better. Now I look forward to going to class because i know i will always learn something new.
Am enjoying being here I love San Diego State and i am enjoying it because I'm involved on campus. It is always a good idea to either be very outgoing and/or be involved on campus but it does not have to be something boring it can be something that you are interested in. There is always something to do on campus you just have to look for it.
Bang for the buck Even if San Diego State is a little costly one can manage either with grants, scholarships, loans, of work. The even better thing is that if one works they can work on campus and have flexible hours depending on you academics.
Tips for prospective students For incoming students i advise you to go to your counselor whether it is college councilor which is the one for you major or related majors, or the school councilor, also always go to office hours they are very helpful don't be worried about asking dumb questions just go so the professor knows you. Also get involved on campus there are a variety of options to choose from and one will meet your interests. Do not procrastinate if you do everything on time and study early it will be a lot easier. Lastly do not think college is the time to screw up because it may even ruin everything be cautious about your decisions and you will succeed in life.
Great for these types of students San Diego State is a great school for students who want to become independent and experience something new. For students who like a broad variety or options. Great for the ones who want a beautiful campus to have their education in. Who want everything close together. Finally to meet great people.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You will definitely learn tons of skills to carry with you for a lifetime here. Even though you have to be self-motivated, the professors care about you and make sure they make time to help you. The classes are challenging enough to keep you on your toes but with a good mindset, it will be a piece of cake!
Am enjoying being here There's always lots of fun things to do here and they encourage getting involved with the school from day one. I suggest checking out all the clubs before you commit to one because there are a large variety of people to meet.
Bang for the buck Unfortunately the Cal State system is getting more expensive but SDSU tries to make things easier on students. The on-campus communities always have free food at their events and during the week, you will find festivals and farmers' markets on campus to get cheap, good food.
Tips for prospective students SDSU has a bad reputation as a party school but it really is all about the way you conduct yourself at any college. With the right attitude, you will make tons of friends, have a great time in clubs and volunteering and get all your studying done on time.
Great for these types of students It's a good school for outgoing people who love working out and being outdoors. They have a stellar location close to hiking grounds and the beach and even offer credits for learning to surf and paddle board. It's also a great school if you love to socialize or have a desire to be in the military or ROTC. San Diego is a military city and they have a great detachment of Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC's at SDSU.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I believe I would learn a lot at this school. It offers all the classes I would need to complete my desired major. It has an excellent speech pathology program which is what I am planning on pursuing while in college.
Will enjoy being here I've had many family members and friends who have gone to this school (including my parents and sister) and have collected wonderful memories and great friendships through this school. It's also in such a great and exciting town with so much to do!
Bang for the buck This school completely falls in to the budget my family has set up for my college education funds. And not because of any fault in the community- just because it is a California state school!
Tips for prospective students Go see the campus! Go visit and check out all the school has to offer! Also- check out what the whole community has to offer! Look all around San Diego and the many things it offers!
Great for these types of students Great for any kind of student really! It offers so many majors. It has dorms for honors students and suites for more private students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are a variety of classes offered to fit each student's interests. Every professor is different, but all want to see their students succeed. They are helpful and more than willing to help when asked.
Am enjoying being here There are numerous social activities and extracurricular groups available to join and take part in... a little something for everyone!
Bang for the buck Tuition rates have increased about 30% in the last three years. Due to budget cuts, some classes are only offered once a semester and sometimes once a year. Some classes are eliminated all together and majors are becoming impacted. However, SDSU is still the cheapest state university in California.
Tips for prospective students Most classes have 100-200 students, but there are smaller classes of 30-40 students. Make sure you don't mind having large class sizes because the classes tend to be less personal and the professors are more detached. Also, SDSU is a large campus so make sure you don't mind a large student population. Join clubs and get involved in campus activities to get the most beneficial college experience.
Great for these types of students This school is great for outgoing students due to the large student population. This school also has a great teaching program and nursing program so students with those prospective careers should apply.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Pay attention to the professors they're there for you. Most of the teachers are really passionate about their studies and tend to forget about their students, meet up with your teachers a least once a week. During study successions its hard to find a place in the Love Library so plan on getting your own laptop.
Will enjoy being here It's a blast being here especially when everyone is coming back from summer vacation. Take part in the New Student Week and go to the parties before school starts. Make sure you know the Aztec Fight song!!
Bang for the buck With tuition on the rise most students are trying to cut back on their budgets. Try not to eat out everyday or you're going to regret it. With the new construction beginning I suspect that classes will be a little rowdy.
Tips for prospective students Visit the Campus a few times before Admissions open. Sign up for EOP and be sure to have a check off list.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Of course being that I have yet to attend a class at this university, I have heard from a multitude of different people that the education to be granted to those who earn them will be very useful to them in their future.
Will enjoy being here I know for a fact the area is excellent. The environment is easy to work around being that there is the beach nearby and the weather is never too hot nor too cold. It will definitely be an easy place to adjust to.
Bang for the buck Even though most other schools in CA seem to be affected by the recent budget, its seems to me as if SDSU has found a way to keep up the quality of education as well as their facilities. The campus is nice and the education one will earn from the educators is well worth every penny--its just AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE! What you take from SDSU into the world will be useful to you, especially when it comes to choosing a career.
Tips for prospective students Go with the school you are most comfortable with. Make sure you are comfortable with the environment of the campus. That is the main thing, is that you yourself are happy, because students do not learn well if they are not genuinely happy.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes classes are large, but transferring from a private school there isn't much of a difference in the amount of material being taught. I have learned as much here as I did at my other school, which is to say a lot.
Am enjoying being here YES! People are friendly and there is plenty of activities and school spirit.
Bang for the buck Some classrooms are old but machines used are rather new, besides there planning on renovating part of the school.
Tips for prospective students Go to ratemyprofessor.com will save you from being trapped in either a boring class or getting a terrible professor. If you didn't sign up for esab, expect long lines at the advising center. Because many classes are pretty large, get to know your professor one on one.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The amount you learn here depends greatly on the classes you register for, but not necessarily how much you time or effort you put into any given class. For instance, I feel I learned a lot in my Philosophy class last Fall just by sitting and listening to the professor, while I worked my butt off in Chemistry and got very little out of it. Register for as wide a variety of classes as possible. Still learning more than in high school.
Am enjoying being here The campus is very pretty, but much of the surrounding area is not. Some people are also very nice, but you also get the SoCal mean people. Just depends on who you meet. Most of the dorms (the cheaper ones anyway) are also extremely old, except for Cuic, where the Dining Hall is just ok. Still, you're in San Diego, so you aren't going to get any better weather.
Bang for the buck Despite the constant increase in CSU tuition, there is still no better investment than in your education. With that said, the CSU system is failing and is constantly finding more and more ways to squeeze every dollar out of every student whether it's supplies, textbooks, or meal plans (you're going to lose money with all the plans except the most expensive one). Work hard to get your money's worth.
Tips for prospective students The #1 thing I learned about applying to colleges is that most schools (except for private ones and a few others) admit you based on the major you declare, so your chances are solely based on the seats that school has for that major. Therefore, a school's acceptance rate really has nothing at all to do with its competitiveness. Look into how many seats your school of choice has for the major you are applying to so you can get a better idea of your chances.
Great for these types of students If you love the sun, can't get into the UC's (or can't afford anything more expensive than a CSU) and don't want to party unless you're in a frat, then this school is prefect for you.
