Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I didn't imagine I would learn so much in one year but I have. It makes me excited to see what I will be learning the next 3 years.
Am enjoying being here While it gets hot in Georgia, the facilities that SCAD provides are beyond amazing and make up for the dreadful heat (I'm from the north so I'm not so used to 90 degree weather everyday). You are right in the middle of historic Savannah with almost everything within walking distance...what more can an art student ask for? Also, if you think you know what an art store looks like, you have seen anything yet! The art stores in downtown Savannah are jaw-dropping. We aren't talking about your hometown's local craftstore anymore...this is the real thing!
Bang for the buck Compared to some other art colleges it's not as expensive but it is still expensive regardless.
Tips for prospective students Plan way in advance for both loans and scholarships (especially scholarships). It will be well worth your time to do scholarships before you get to SCAD because art students are very busy people!
Great for these types of students Savannah is a wonderful place to study art and you will meet the best people here (professors, students, faculty, etc.). It's the perfect networking area and you'll come out a better artist if you invest your time well and work hard.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are awesome, they really know what they are doing and really want to help you learn. I have learned so much already and am only in my first year, they have the best equipment and cover so much information.
Am enjoying being here It is a wonderful environment, all of the new people you meet are amazing and SCAD offers so much to do, a lot of clubs and events.
Bang for the buck SCAD is on the expensive side, but it is worth every penny! Just make sure to apply to as many scholarships as you can.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you submit your absolute best work in your portfolio, and write a good essay, make sure it meets the required three pages. Also you want to make sure that you get really good recommendation letters from your teachers.
Great for these types of students SCAD is perfect for anyone pursuing a career in the art and design fields, especially students who are dedicated and willing to put in a lot of work.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Since i have been at SCAD i have learned a lot from all of my professors. They are not only there to teach you but also to help you and if i might add. They are always willing to help any student in need.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being here at SCAD, i can honestly say that i can not think of any other college i would rather attend. SCAD is the place to be when it comes to never being bored out of your mined.
Bang for the buck SCAD is an expensive college, but I can tell you it is worth every penny.
Tips for prospective students Some tips i have for prospective students is to make sure your grades in high school are in good standing because if you are accepted you can get scholarships. Another tip i would give would be, SCAD is a college about good grades if you don't keep you grades up , they will and i repeat will kick you out. Scad's curriculum isn't hard it you keep up with your work and do not procrastinate all the time.
Great for these types of students SCAD is great for students who are artistic, funny, outgoing, ready to learn, imagnative, creative, friendly, and hard working. What else can i say but weird, in a good way.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In my first quarter, I haven't really learned much as far as arts are concerned. Of the two fine arts classes I attended, 2D Design was the least stimulating. It was more about cutting and pasting than I would have hoped. However, Drawing I was challenging at times and taught me a few things about different materials new to me at the time.
The most I learned was about myself from living there the first quarter. It takes a not insignificant amount of self control and responsibility to keep up with all the deadlines and work outside of class hours.
That being said, once I've finished most of my foundations courses and begin my major-specific work, I feel I will be learning more than I can keep track of.
I can say that not matter how tedious or boring classes seemed at times, I could always take something new from my experience. Plus, none of my classes were as boring, or wretched in some cases, as most general study programs my friends at other colleges had to endure.Am enjoying being here It has really been great at SCAD. There's always something to do in Savannah, and, being downtown, nothing is more than a 10 minute walk away.
My friends who have visited tell me how lucky I am to have a dorm room that is larger than average, although with three people it can get a little cramped. The dorms I live in are nice and seem pretty new compared to the alternatives. There are even a sub shop and pizza place in the dorms themselves, and two buffet-style dining halls within 2-5 minutes of walking distance.
The food isn't bad by any measure, but it is a welcome change of pace to go out for food every once in a while. There are plenty of restaurants and fast food places nearby, with some great, and less costly, ones off River Street.
The classes aren't crowded, and the teachers are more than happy to help you out. Teachers are even disappointed in how little students see them for help during their office hours.
I can't comment much on the party scene at SCAD, and let it be known that I do not condone any illegal activities. Although SCAD is a dry and drug free campus, there are always people who manage to avoid the eye of security.
As far as I can tell, anyone who wants to party in downtown Savannah needs to be prepared to party-hop a fair amount. It seems like most parties are shutdown by the authorities relatively quickly. Also, all clubs in Savannah are 21 and up, so unless you procure a false ID or are of age, clubbing is out of the question.Bang for the buck I'm not sure exactly how much all the services provided to students is worth, but I feel like I've made a great investment in my choice of college, mostly because SCAD is the only well-known school with a Game Development program.
There are bus lines to each academic building and residence hall, the malls in Savannah, and department/grocery stores.
The facilities are well-kept and up-to-date and have a staff of diligent security personnel. Every member of the faculty has been kind and helpful to me and I feel like any problems I have can be solved in a timely and satisfactory manner.Tips for prospective students The first and most important tip I can give is to keep track of your deadlines and make use of your time on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to complete your work. I don't recommend spending the WHOLE weekend studying, but a few hours each day or a dedicated Friday will go a long way to keeping you on track in your classes.
Second, do not count on the buses to remain 100% true to their schedules. Although they make a point to stay on time, and usually are, their reliability drops significantly after a class period has started. There are many less buses after the initial 20 minute rush hour to help tardy students get to class.
On the topic of late buses, be prepared for a long, long, looong wait for the extra-curricular buses to arrive, and an equally long wait to reach or return from your destination, whether it's Kroger, Wal-Mart, or the mall.
Third, participate in SCAD events. They are a lot of fun, especially if you have friends that can tag along, and you can meet a lot of new people. There are things going on almost every week that you can attend, not taking into account the athletic events/classes/workouts happening almost every day.
Also, it will help you get the all-important Passport Stamps required to pass First Year Experience.Great for these types of students Anyone who has the money to attend first of all. I wouldn't have gone to SCAD if I didn't have to financial aid to back me up. If this is a problem and you really want to go to SCAD, I recommend transferring like many of my friends and acquaintances who currently attend.
Overall I would recommend this school to someone who is looking for a job in a creative oriented field. Many of the teachers used to work in the fields related to what they teach, the career services department is very active in aiding students secure jobs/internships, and there are programs of study not available or of the same quality as there are at SCAD.
Plus, people tend to remember when you tell them you attend SCAD :pLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Although you have a shorter amount of time to learn than in a traditional school, they squeeze every second you have to learning. All my professors were generally masters in their field and are able to convey each subject to you in an interesting way. Being an art school, creativity takes precedent over everything. Yes, there are many general education classes but they are spread out throughout your entire academic career. All in all, I believe that I am getting a topnotch education.
Am enjoying being here The people at SCAD are generally friendly and there are many types of people there so meeting friends is rather easy. Classes in your field are always exciting. There is always something to do when not doing assignments. There are also many different types of clubs (I think there’s at least one or two for each major) which are generally fun for down time. But if that’s not you thing, then there’s all kinds of different actives on campus. Plays. Movies. Shows. Competitions. Savannah, the city, is a beautiful historical town. Even exploring the town on a tour could be interesting. I could go on and on. There will be no problems finding something to do.
Bang for the buck There’s no getting around how expensive the school is, but I promise you, you’ll get a lot. For all those dollars you get so many majors and minors, to help you get to your specific ideal-job.
Tips for prospective students Look for good deals wherever you can. Scholarships, Grants, Loans, and buying books and supplies online. Get savings wherever you can. You’ll need every dime.
Great for these types of students Artistic and creative people. I kid you not when I tell you I’ve met all kinds of people and most people can learn to do well.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much during my first quarter at SCAD. I can easily see an improvement in all of my artwork. The professors have worked in the field and some currently do so they know what they are talking about.
Am enjoying being here I am having so much fun. It is quite simple to make new friends and we all have had a good time here so far. There is always something to do everyday its hard to be bored. They have companies come and visit every week. SCAD also hosts its own film festival and I met a bunch of people who currently work in the field.
Bang for the buck SCAD like most art schools is a bit pricey but from my experience it is worth the price. You get a quality education from the beginning. Once you include in all the resources provided and just the reputation of the school you are getting a deal. After considering all I have gained from one quarter I can assure you the price is reasonable. Also SCAD has tons of scholarship and grant opportunities.
Tips for prospective students 1. Apply early even if you are not sure. The application is cheap and you have a better chance of receiving a scholarship.
2. If you love art this is the school for you.
3. Don't worry about being the best at the beginning everyone is. The whole point of going to school is to learn and be better. Trust me you will see the progression in your artwork after only a couple weeks.Great for these types of students 1. Determined
2. Motivated

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Every teacher I met REALLY has a wonderful understanding on their subjects and has taught me more than I've ever thought I would. The classes are hard though and the grading system is even more hard. To be able to do well you're not going to be able to get away with partying all of the time.
Am enjoying being here The historic downtown district is beautiful...as long as you stay in historic downtown. It's a city even though it doesn't seem like it and as soon as you get outside of downtown you get into the ghetto. You'll be living miles away where there's robbery's and all. If you have your street smarts you'll be fine and you'll really enjoy being there despite that fact. There's always something going on being such a big tourist spot. You have fairs all the time, beer fest, and fireworks every first Friday of the month during the spring, summer, and fall.
You'll also be happy to know that EVERYTHING you need is right downtown. There's (from what I know) at least three art stores right downtown and they have everything you'll ever need for any of your projects. They're always really helpful there too. Just don't be surprised when you drop 150+ on supplies for your classes each semester...but really that's what we get being art students though and you'll get that at any art school.
The weather is hot as heck and the humidity is terrible. I describe it as you'll be standing there doing nothing, and you'll thinking your sweating, but really it's like you're just collecting the humidity around you. You get used to it through in the end and got a laugh when I was outside eating at a cafe in shorts, t-shirt, and flip-flops when home called telling me about how it was snowing. One thing that's wonderful is I have really bad asthma, and really bad allergies. It was like I was cured when I went to SCAD, I took my asthma spray once when I was at Club SCAD working out, and I never had problems with my allergies.Bang for the buck It's a private school, it's going to be expensive. In the end though you're going to get a GREAT education and you'll have the name of an amazing school behind you. I do recommend if you're a high school student to go to community college first. You'll have a better chance getting your preliminary classes over with (especially english, social sciences, maths etc (make sure you take speech and public speaking)) I know it may not be what everyone wants to do, but believe me, I went to community college first despite what I initially wanted to do when I got out of High School, and now I couldn't be happier and I've saved A BUNCH of money.
Tips for prospective students SCAD is an absolutely amazing school but just make sure you get more scholarships than the ones they provide. The grading there is a B- or B+ is the same as a B and a 3.5 G.P.A. is an average of an A (this is what you'll usually have to maintain to keep the scholarships they give to you.
Basically be careful, it's hard to keep your grades in this category and they're sneaky and you don't find out what your grades are really going to have to be before you go there.
Again, go to community college first, get the easy stuff over with. I can't imagine getting the things like english and math over while I'm there. It's the quarter system (you have three quarters/semesters in a year (fall quarter goes from September to November, Winter is January to March and Spring is from March to June.)) Everything is really fast paced and intense so you'd be better of going somewhere else first and transferring. SCAD is usually really good about how things transfer and you'll be more likely to get good scholarships that way as well.Great for these types of students Anyone artistically inclined and looking for a great art education :]

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I enrolled in this art school not knowing the basics, and was apprehensive about attending. However, within the one year and one quarter that I've been in classes, my fears have been proven insignificant. The professors really walk you through everything, allow one on one time for extra help, and your classes are set up in that you learn from the very beginning and work your way up into your major.
Am enjoying being here This school is not set on a traditional campus, which is a feature I love. This really lets you explore all Savannah has to offer. SCAD is really involved in the community, so students have access to a variety of community service, festivals, and other town events.
Bang for the buck Any student attending SCAD will agree that it is a hefty price tag, however after being here as long as I have I can't really complain. The technology and programs offered for every student is top of the line, events are well coordinated and executed, the quality of teachings is superb, and the overall life at SCAD is appropriate to what I am paying. Compared to any other school offering a Graphic Design major, SCAD is by far the best.
Tips for prospective students I would encourage students to get involved as much as schedules allow. Not only does it improve resumes, but it is a great way to meet people with like interests.
Also, don't underestimate the hard work and art class entails. It may be art, but professors expect no less than your best.Great for these types of students Hard-working, dedicated, art-loving, those who love culture.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot When I started at SCAD, I had only taken one art class in high school. I learned more in my first month at SCAD than I ever did all throughout high school, from Art History to Drawing I. Your brain will expand more than you ever thought possible, and you will go to sleep at night satisfied that you have learned new things that day.
Am enjoying being here Savannah is truly the City of Hospitality. It is a beautiful, quaint town, with all the charm and allure of a big city. Broughton Street has every place you could hope to shop (and more!), and exploring the many side streets and lovely squares will yield hidden antique shops and thrift stores, perfect for rummaging through for the next art project. If you don't enjoy the heat, don't worry! Savannah cools off around November, and it's like most temperate places' autumn. The sunsets are glorious.
Bang for the buck Yes, I will be the first to admit that SCAD is an EXTREMELY pricey school. But there is really no comparison if you know exactly what you want to do. The majors at SCAD are varied, but they provide each department with everything they need to help the students succeed in their field. Everything is state-of-the-art at SCAD (pardon the pun), and you can be assured that prospective employers, upon seeing SCAD on your resume, will pause and consider a bit longer than usual.
Tips for prospective students Save your money! Art supplies, coupled with tuition, really add up! Also, get classes out of the way in high school or at your community college first! Why pay more money to take a class like Speech or Math, that you know you'll get the same education for less at a community college? SCAD does ART well, and artistic things-- get the academics out of the way somewhere less expensive!
Great for these types of students Creative, innovative, quickthinking. If you've looked at a museum piece and thought, I can do that... better. If you've woken up in the morning with an idea in your head for a project that won't quit until you begin working on it. If you have felt ostricized or left out by the way you dress or the thoughts you have-- don't worry: you belong at SCAD.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Definately make sure your portfolio is top-notch. Get all the financial aid you can manage, unless you've got plenty in your college fund, lol, in which case, feel free to help me pay for my education, lol... ALSO, be prepared for the humidity (& insects, eek)
Great for these types of students SCAD is great for anything to do with art. I'm dying to get SO MANY degrees from this school, but I have to pick ONE, haha, so I'm doing Interactive Design and Game Development, but preferably with a minor in Creative Writing and/or Concept Art for Games and/or Business Management & Entrepeneurship.... AND I want to take french... And possibly more German (took 2 years in high school)... ... ... Yeah, AND I want to go to Lacoste for one of the semesters I spend at SCAD... (Yeah, I've got big dreams and no money, but I'll make it work!)

Am enjoying being here This college has everything! From big screen tv's in the student lounge to pizza shops bult in to the sides of dorm houses! I love it here!A student center where you can go to not only study but also have a personal flat screen tv to yourself! Not only that but they also have nap domes where you can nap on study breaks!
Bang for the buck If you had imagined the most awesome college in your mind jusy now... that's SCAD. They have everything you need to succeed and then some!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you make good friends with financial aid and scholarships!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot SCAD has the most updated and top of the line equipment and programs for all artistic study. I expect to gather an overabundance of knowledge, understanding, and experience.
Will enjoy being here Savannah is a beautiful historic city, and every building of the college is a renovated historic building. SCAD participates in many local art events, frequently features student work in local galleries and school shows. They also offer late night studies to work on projects on campus. As a lover of art, I will be in heaven at this school.
Bang for the buck I have heard many good words about SCAD. Their facilities are spectacular and they offer state of the art equipment. Over 70 employers come to SCAD looking for students fresh out of the school. It may be extremely expensive, but I think it's worth it.
Tips for prospective students Send in a portfolio with your application as a representation of your work. Try to get as many scholarships and grants as you can, because SCAD is extremely expensive. Visit the campus before attending to get a portfolio review and to get any questions answered.
Great for these types of students SCAD is an art school so basically anyone interested in an art major would be perfect for this school. It is difficult to be accepted, so send in your best work for your portfolio. Studying abroad is also available and SCAD offers great opportunities for employment after graduation.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so many things since I've come to SCAD, including more advanced drawing techniques, as well as things about writing, the business side of my industry, and a number of other skills and vital pieces of information.
Am enjoying being here The city of Savannah is absolutely gorgeous, and the atmosphere is very friendly. There are a number of parks in the historic district (where most of the school is located), as well as a lot of great shows and events in the area. The classes are a lot of fun, too. I especially enjoy my major classes. The teachers are amazing in the Sequential Art department! Every class is enjoyable, and the other students are people like me, who love comics and art.
Bang for the buck The school is highly expensive, but the education you receive for it is invaluable.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard on assignments. This school is intensive--and all the effort pays off. If you put in the time on your projects, you will not only make good grades, but you will have a number of great portfolio pieces to help you get a job in the field once you leave school.
Money and time management, as always, are also very important things to keep in mind. It is best to start working on projects as soon as you get them and work on them a bit each day so that no project overwhelms you. It will also help you to schedule times for relaxation to keep your life balanced and to make sure you can get enough sleep. Manage your time poorly, and you will get stuck doing all-nighters to finish assignments, which will make it difficult to function later.Great for these types of students Dedicated, driven, and passionate students can thrive and grow at the Savannah College of Art and Design. If you have a love of art and want to pursue a career in any artistic field, this is a great school that not only teaches you the tools and techniques of the trade, but also helps you build valuable networking connections with others.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With every class I have taken, they have all taught me so very much. This is my first year, but I have already learned a lot. The professors are great and and give you detailed information for everything.
Am enjoying being here I love it here. The city is beautiful, the students and faculty are wonderful, and everything you need is within walking distance.
Bang for the buck Even though you pay a pretty penny for this place, the experience you get from it is definitely worth it. Big companies come here all the time and your classes prepare you for the real world.
Tips for prospective students I would say that if you want to get the artistic experience needed for the creative business world, this is the place.
Great for these types of students This school has such a huge variety of majors that I would say it is great for almost any type of student.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Goodness, when I first came to SCAD all I would hear was how things wnet by fast here and it's so true! Professors don't rehash the same thing over and over(unless it's necessary that is) so I didn't feel like I spent forever on one thing. The quarters seem to fly by, but by the end I felt as if I learn a plethora of new things and couldn't wait for the next quarter to begin.
Am enjoying being here SCAD Atlanta is great and has an awesome location with it being near so many big companies like Turner and CNN, good places for potential internships. There's always something to do here, whether it's school sponsored activities like the SCAD Way festival or something else in the area. The only down fall to me is that there isn't a wide variety of sports teams. I played lacrosse in high school and loved it and wish the Atlanta campus had a team so I could continue to play. All they have is tennis, track and golf unfortunately.
Bang for the buck I've never spent so much money in my life! That was what scared me the most, SCAD's tuition price tag and how I was going to pay it. Luckily I was able to get some scholarships, but I still had to take out some loans as well. It's worth it though. The facilities are kept clean and neat, besides during finals week when everything gets a little hectic, but that's the fun of college, right? Staying up all night with a bunch of friends, paper scraps and Instant Ramen cups scattered about the floor, finishing a project that's due in two days. They have nearly everything a student needs to be successful here.
Tips for prospective students If you can, save, save, save money for art supplies. My major's animation and I needed a lot of different kinds of paper, pencils, paints, and various other tools for classes and all that adds up. Before I knew it, I had spent over $120 for supplies my first quarter. That was the big blow, but a lot of that stuff I bought was used for my next quarter, so I didn't have to spend as much. Just be prepared to spend nine dollars for a piece of paper.
Great for these types of students SCAD is amazing for creative people who like things fast paced, which is exactly what you'll get attending here in Atlanta.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This school has taught me an incredible amount of things within the art world. I came to SCAD with meager fine arts skills and I've been transformed into a wonderful artist. The teachers are all industry professionals and career driven adults who can offer you a vast variety of knowledgeable skills that you will keep with you for the rest of your life. The foundation studies programs that you must go through before entering your major will make you a well rounded artist and student.
Am enjoying being here I currently attend SCAD Atlanta, not SCAD Savannah. The SCAD Atlanta school is just wonderful. It's a brand new facility with all the top of the line equipment and classroom tools. The building is just gorgeous and all of the dorms are really clean and are kept up very nicely. The city of Atlanta is quirky, fun and diverse and I could not ask for a better city to study in! The SCAD Atlanta building is right down town, with all of the other buildings within a half a mile or so. I highly recommend this campus!
Bang for the buck The school may be pricey, but you'll get your moneys worth. The alumni are all successful in their respective fields out side of school. They offer lots of study abroad opportunities, internships and collaborations with outside companies and artists. You will have a valuable education at SCAD and will make every penny of your tuition back when you come out of school with a wonderful career!
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up and start putting together a really well rounded fine arts portfolio, put a little bit of everything into it! Mine was everything from fashion design to ceramics, and they seemed to have loved it! Submit it for every portfolio review and portfolio scholarship that you can and aid will surely come your way. Be ready for a heavy workload, but also for really cool and innovative projects that you can add to your portfolio after graduation.
Great for these types of students This school is for serious artists and scholars. There is little room for people who are slow with work and are lacking art skills, if you want to go here, start getting ready for an immersive artistic experience with students who live, eat, sleep, and breathe art like you do. This school provides a really gorgeous artistic environment and will make an artist out of you yet! I also think this school is great for students who aren't necessarily artistic by nature, but would love to be open to learning and becoming a great artist in the future.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the time, I feel as though I am not learning because we practice what I love to do, create art! But at the end of the day when I think back to new things that I did not know before, I can come up with many!
Am enjoying being here I currently attend the Atlanta campus and it is very enjoyable. The students are nice and always friendly and the staff is always there to help.
Bang for the buck Now this college is REALLY expensive, but I believe it is worth it if you are wishing to go into an art field.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate! I am not a procrastinator, so I get my work done early. Yet I see all of my friends struggling at the last minute to get a project done when they could have had it done the day before. Also, get sleep. Many SCAD students decide they will pull all nighters and they just end up loopy and not focused. It is possible to get a good amount of sleep and get projects done on time.
Great for these types of students Any student who loves art and wants to go into a field that deals with art including animation, visual effects, and interactive game design.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Though I have only been here for 5 weeks, I can say that the foundations classes are definitely teaching me a lot, and helping me refresh on what I had learned in high school.
Am enjoying being here The area is beautiful! Walking along Whitaker and seeing all the old houses, the trees, and the parks is the best part of being here. Though riding the bus to classes is annoying and slow, day to day living here is always fun and engaging.
Bang for the buck This school is expensive. Like, paying loan debts for the rest of your life expensive. BUT, it is worth it. The networking capabilities here are endless and the facilities are amazing, as well as the staff. They are ready to prepare you for your future.
Great for these types of students Artists of course!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I've been to the campus during their events where they open up the college to high school juniors, seniors and college students looking to transfer to another school. I spoke to some of the faculty and staff about what you learn here and it seems like they are very strong on teaching students proper technique. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. Now, this isn't to say that there aren't teachers there who are sub-par. It's strictly hearsay, so I won't go into detail about what I heard at least until I've seen it and experienced it myself. These guys are supposed to be some of the best and you're going to have to learn very quickly and study hard because it's like the one of the top art schools out there, so you should learn plenty.
Will enjoy being here Savannah is a nice place to be. If you lived there then it's nothing new to you. I haven't, I just lived around another version of it, Charleston. So there's always something to do if you've got some time to wander around. It seems like it has a wide berth of activity at all times of the year.
Bang for the buck It is an expensive school, so don't squander your chances here. If you're taking out loans, you better be prepared to work hard. Sure there are plenty of ways to pay for school, but it's still a huge amount to pay. Is it worth it? Yes and No. Yes, because it's opportunity to learn from the best to be one of the best. You're paying for a lot of things, a lot of fringe benefits and the ability to network while you are there. Networking will become a key asset during your time because it will become the foundation in which your career eventually steps off from. I could not even begin to tell you how many pros there are in relation to cons because there are just so many opportunities that you can take advantage of. No, because it may not be for you. You have to be sure in your mind that this is what you want, if this is what you want, then jump in and hope for the best!
Tips for prospective students This is like boot-camp for artists. It's 10 week system and there's going to be a lot of competition. Look for scholarships and don't be afraid to apply to the random ones. Be wary of the ones that make guarantees because there are no guarantees, you can do everything right and you still might not get picked. If you have any extra-curricular activities like playing an instrument, being a part of any club, scouts, if your parents are a member of organizations, if you're a minority, whatever your walk of life, take advantage of it. Leave no stone unturned and go out there and apply! There's money out there for people who look for it. If you have a portfolio, have someone go over it with you, have an art teacher go over it, and then send it in for consideration! See above for more financial advice. And above all else...have fun. Oh, and before I forget...if you're a college student that's looking to transfer...be mindful of what credits the college is going to take. Your humanities, core classes, will be considered, but your credits earned in any art classes you acquired in class may not transfer. Don't be alarmed, it happens all the time with art schools, you have to learn it their way. Think of it as an opportunity as learn new techniques while you're there. And as a last word of advice: take advantage of every opportunity afforded to you.
Great for these types of students Hard-working creatives!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It's my first semester here and as a transfer student, some classes have overlapped so I'm repeating a couple similar classes but starting in the winter I'll be in all new classes. That said, I am still learning new techniques and from different perspectives as they are coming from different professors.
Am enjoying being here Savannah is a fantastic city! There is so much history and so much to see and do. You will never be bored. Take the opportunity to go out and explore the city, everything is relatively close so you can walk. And Tybee Island is only about a half hour drive and is BEAUTIFUL! I've got a great apartment and a great roommate. I love it!
Bang for the buck The school is expensive, so work hard in school to try to get scholarships and any financial aid you can get. Do your FAFSA. There is money out there, you just need to find it. But the school has everything to offer, a lot of involvement, and has great job/ intern opportunities so it's definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students Study and get good grades in high school. Start making a professional portfolio for scholarship submission and definitely go online and plan to visit and tour the school.
Great for these types of students anyone who loves art!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences SCAD is the most creative environment a student artist could ever wish to be a part of. I am so fortunate to have such great instructors, inspiring peers, and modern resources to help prepare me for a career in illustration. I was accepted to other art schools, but SCAD was my top choice!
Tips for prospective students Attend a SCAD summer seminar while you're in high school. You get to meet real SCAD teachers, use the studios, and live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor SCAD is a rigorous school. That's why employers seek out graduates. It's really worth the work, though.
Dorm Life SCAD has lots of different living options. Some have a pool, in-house cafeteria, or apartment-like feel.
Food and Dining I don't eat much, so I can't really comment too much. I'd say average.
What to do for fun Tybee Island, downtown Savannah, Forsythe Park.
Bang for the buck I'll tell you more when I graduate and get a job!
Great for these types of students Creative people, unique people.
Clubs and Activities Lots of opportunities, but don't go here to play football or other big team sports. They have an equestrian program!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences this school is simply amazing. they will teach you everything you need to know about your major and more. there is no school that can compare.
Tips for prospective students time management and the ability to follow instructions is really important.
Academic Rigor don't think just because this is art school that they will go easy on you.
Dorm Life i have made a lot of great friends living in the dorms. it is good to have friends there for you so close by.
Food and Dining there are several options for food. like any place you will get tired of it after awhile but it isn't bad.
What to do for fun what isn't there to do for fun? there are tons of clubs and activities all the time to help escape the work zone.
Bang for the buck it is an expensive school no doubt, but you will always be using the most high tech equipment available.
Great for these types of students aritists, hipsters, lgbt, actors/actresses, gamers, anyone who is a kid at heart.
Clubs and Activities over 50 different clubs to join makes it easy to find something fun for you.
Greek Life none. that would imply that you can deny someone access into a group/club. scad believes everyone is able to be involved.
Campus Safety i have had friends accidently leave valuable things outside, and no one touched them.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I've done some pretty intense research on this college. According to many students, you have to be prepared to teach yourself on occasion. Classwork can keep you busy well into the night hours. The school provides foundation classes, which I think is necessary for those of us who aren't near professionals. However, if you are already a decent artist, you might want to consider transferring here instead of taking those classes
Will enjoy being here I've visited and found the campus beautiful. There are SOME spots however where you may want to avoid, such as a really murky river or run down buildings. There's a paper mill factory that stinks up the place from time to time. But the trees and scenery and people are amazing!
Bang for the buck Being well known has it's advantages. Students reported of many different businesses observing their work to possibly give them job opportunities. However, this isn't the case for EVERYONE. Either way, the college is very prestigious and well known through the art community so though it's expensive, you're paying for a decent label.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as you can. Being broke isn't fun.
Great for these types of students Art, creative

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The biggest thing here is you want to research your teachers and pick the one that suits you best. Though all are well informed and know what they are doing, professors do have different expectations of you and some will challenge you harder than others. But when you find one with the right level of challenge for you, it's phenomenal how much you can learn in 10 weeks.
Am enjoying being here Others have said it and yes: It is hot. But the winters here are freezing for me, and there are a couple of months during the fall and spring where weather is perfect. SCAD's meal plan is very decent in my opinion, and they have options for vegetarians and vegans. There are a lot of great student activities going on all the time and the clubs are a hoot! There is also a bus system for students who don't have cars or can't bring theirs to Savannah. I use it, and though the buses can be pretty late sometimes, it's a great service.
Bang for the buck It is a lot of money to come to SCAD, and though sometimes you wonder where all of that money is going, I think the teachers and the education you receive are well worth it.
During orientation and First Year Experience, you'll hear a lot about all the other services SCAD offers students for their tuition, and there are a lot of things you can take advantage of, like help with writing your papers at the Hive and therapy for anxiety or other problems you might have, and a lot more.
SCAD really offers you a lot, but it's up to you to take advantage of what you paid for.Tips for prospective students Don't wait till the last minute. Ever. Professors can tell 9 times out of 10 when you didn't put the effort in or rushed a project.
For First Year Experience, which is a class that freshman take to acquaint themselves with SCAD and it's services, don't forget to go to the required events for your stamps/stickers. That's not a class you want to repeat.
Don't fret too much and just do your best. c : The teachers, especially in foundations, are really nice and understanding, and they'll help you reach your potential.Great for these types of students This school is great for any hard-working art student. Since it offers so many majors, and teaches them so well, I'd recommend it to anyone.
This isn't the school to slack at, partly because you don't last long if you do, and because you don't want to pay that much money to do nothing.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some of the professor don't really teach as much as tell you to do something, but there are professors that you definitely click with and can realize they really want what is best for you and enjoy what their doing.
Am enjoying being here It's a beautiful city with beautiful people and the weather is pretty fantastic too.
Bang for the buck It's an expensive place. For an expensive taste of the best. SCAD has professors who have worked in the industry and top of the line everything. The only thing that is out of place is it's food, yuck!
Tips for prospective students Apply for every scholarship possible. It's worth it, yes. But you're going to paying it off for the rest of your life.
Great for these types of students Artistic, Fun, Creative, Open-Minded, Unique, Thoughtful, Awesome.

Did enjoy being here I enjoyed everything from the classes to the dorms. Everyone that attends SCAD obviously has an interest in art, and the dorms can be quite colorful halfway through the year.
Bang for the buck It is quite expensive, but there is a scholarship you can apply for and one can always get aid while attending this school.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor the teachers are great! of course, you have some bad ones- just like at any other college, but they don't spoil the bunch!! a majority of the teachers like to connect with the students and have this knack for showing you a deeper side to the subject.
Am enjoying being here The campus IS the city! You can't walk around Savannah without knowing that SCAD is there and I love it - It's like I own the town! The atmosphere is relaxing; It's a nice relatively medium-sized town where something great and exciting is ALWAYS going on~
Bang for the buck you can never feel like you've wasted your money here (unless you came for the wrong reasons). everything is high quality and you can see it in how dedicated the teachers are, the technology provided for the students, the facilities - everything!
Tips for prospective students it's an art school - make sure you go with an open mind. enjoy the criticism from teachers; they wouldn't be giving it to you if they didn't care about your success in life.
Great for these types of students open-minded, driven students

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You learn so much in just a little bit of time. It's great! You also don't only learn about your major/minor, but you also learn things about yourself along the way.
Am enjoying being here It's really stressful. It is a very good college though. There are also many opportunities to interact and just have fun.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused and don't give up! I have seen so many people switch schools before they even get to classes for their major. The first year will definitely be tough, but as long as you stay focus you'll be find. Try not to procrastinate even though I know it's really hard.
Great for these types of students It's great for art students of course! SCAD is a great school for people who are determined and focused.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It was an extremely modern and inviting campus. They had facilities for almost everything. The faculty was extremely warm and inviting.
Tips for prospective students Parking seemed to be an issue, and of course the cost, but these were the most major issues. It definitely seemed like hard curriculums but if focused, lead to extremely rewarding careers.
What to do for fun Savannah is a huge, diverse city with shops, bars, restaurants. Seemed like it had a great night life

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences SCAD is a great art school, that has 40+ majors inculding equestrian (we are number 1 in the country) wriing, and all sorts of art majors like jewelry and objects, fibers, fashion, architecture, and more. The professors are very knowledgeable and accessible outside of class. SCAD is in a great locations, Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and Lacoste France. I know this is the right place for me. I love it here!!!
Tips for prospective students Submit a portfolio, video, writing sample for scholarships! Always ask questions, each student is asigned an admissions councelor to help them with all their questions.
Academic Rigor It depends on the teacher, and on you. I have only pulled one all nighter. However, if you procrastinate that's your fault. The further you get into your major they less sleep you get. The projects take a long time. I just spent 60 hours on my last one. But if you are doing what you love its not work.
Dorm Life The dorms are convienient. Especialy for transportation. The busses that take you to the achidemic buildings go to all the dorms. They are expensive, way more than living off campus but the school takes 30% off your scholarship if you move off campus.
Food and Dining The school food is ok. It is completely manageable. I suggest getting the block meal plan with more dinning dollars and 135 meals a quarter. It works much better. The food around town (Savannah) is awesome, lots of great places to eat, you will not go hungry.
What to do for fun Tybee Island!!! The beach is 20 minutes away by car, and the Savannah Visitor's Center has a shuttle. Since it is the south, the water is WARM!!! Yeay for swimming in the ocean in October!
Bang for the buck SCAD is expensive but they have awesome placement after graduation. Take advantage of all the opportunities on resume building and career services. And keep in mind it is still cheeper than most privet art schools.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Humans vs. Zombies is a big deal, but not everyone has to participate. Midnight Breakfast before finals week is so good!!!! It is served by faculty and staff and they raffle stuff off. One of our most famous events is Masquerade Ball, our Halloween Dance. You have never celebrated Halloween until you have gone to art school. The costumes are awesome! We also have lots of fun festivals like Sidewalk Arts, and Sand Arts! Sidewalk Arts is in Forsyth Park where all the students and community come out and sign up for sidewalk squares and draw all day and there is prise money. Sand Arts is a sand sculpture contest out on Tybee Island. Both a great day to spend with friends and hang out in the sun.
Great for these types of students SCAD is a great place for artists. Especially someone who wants a unique college experience, not in a regular college town or urban university.
Clubs and Activities TONS! You can start your own if you don't find what you are looking for, Lots of volunteer opportunities in the community. Anyone can be a part of them. At the beginning of each quarter there is a festival introducing new students to all the clubs.
Greek Life Nope welcome to art school! We really don't need it.
Campus Safety Savannah is not the safest city, but SCAD security is everywhere and they work closely with the town police. They have a good alert system, even a little overzealous sometimes. SCAD Security will come pick you up from any SCAD building after 8pm if you call. And sometimes even not from a building.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Amazing 110% This school cannot be any better.
Tips for prospective students Go and look at the campus. It is perfect for me but not for everybody. Regardless it is a fantastic city.
Academic Rigor The classes seem so cool. I am dying to take one.
Dorm Life The dorms are so cute and either in renovated hotels or adorable little houses.
Food and Dining The food is amazing and super varied.
What to do for fun They have a zombies vs. ninjas Nerf gun fight every year, a Halloween costume party and quidditch need I say more.
Bang for the buck Expensive for a school but cheap for an art college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There buildings are in an old mosque, a prison and a hotel, so cool.
Great for these types of students Artsy, funky, nerdy, and a little bit strange
Clubs and Activities Quidditch, literary magazine, Pokemon club, etc. Awesome.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Weird is normal here. Sleep is nonexistent. Any art related person will love it here.
Tips for prospective students Build up on scholarships and loans , please. This school may be one of the very best but it is most certainly not cheap.
Dorm Life Depends on which dorm you decide to live in. Spring house is more social and fun, but ACA house is more private and people normally don't talk to one another there. Spring house is an old hotel so it doesn't have fancy living appliances like ACA, which has a more apartment like setting.
What to do for fun There is plenty to do for fun and millons of chances to make connections and lots of friends. Spring house has a nice pool and has fun event and ACA house is located right next to a museum. SCAD Atlanta is in walking distance to a lot of fun and entertaining things.
Bang for the buck At SCAD you get exactly what you pay for and you exit every quarter with valuable information. Even if you don't know how to draw, paint or so on they will teach you and ensure you understand the relevance of each course you take.
Campus Safety There is plenty of security around and they have guards patrolling constantly to make sure you will be safe. Do not leave without your I.D. card because you will not be able to enter the buildings.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Very great opportunities are available to every student. There are plenty of events held for students to network with professionals already in the industry. Plus, you'll make great friends from all over the world.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to spend a lot of money. Art supplies are not cheap! Also, brace yourself to work very hard! The workload can be overwhelming sometimes. If you're not dedicated, you will fail!
Academic Rigor The workload can be very overwhelming at times throughout the quarter, but in the end, you find it all necessary.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty decent but it's a bit more expensive than living off-campus and certain freedoms are limited.
Food and Dining While there are a few good places, the dining halls aren't that great. They do have their good days every once in a while.
What to do for fun Walk downtown, hang out with friends on campus, join clubs/organizations, make friends at Savannah State and party over there.
Bang for the buck Nothing about this school is cheap so save up! The education and opportunities is somewhat worth it, only if you take advantage of it though.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Human Vs. Zombies is very strange, in my opinion. But it's very fun to watch.
Greek Life No Greek life here.
Campus Safety Safety on campus is great. But once you set foot off-campus, you're on your own.

The teachers are some of the best in the business and they really know what they are talking about. The only problem I have is with how money hungry the school is.
Academic Rigor The classes can be very challenging since the professors expect the very best out of you, but they teach you everything you need to know in order to pass the class.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The Savannah College of Art and Design gifted me with a large Artistic Honors Scholarship which gave me the opportunity to continue my higher education - and for that, I will be forever grateful. Their e-learning program is the most amazing online learning experience an artistic student could hope for. I have met so many amazing students and professors both online and in the real world who will help to shape my future career for years to come.
Tips for prospective students If you would like to be accepted to SCAD I would recommend that you build a strong portfolio so you can also be eligible for scholarships and grants. Keep your grades up because they also offer academic honors scholarships. Get involved as much as you can even if you are in e-learning. Find other students and get involved in projects outside of the classroom to build your graduate portfolio and attend their online seminars to hear speakers and learn about future jobs and internships.
Academic Rigor Your studies at this school, whether in person or through e-learning, are rigorous. It isn't an easy school - but for your higher education you should hope for that. Professors are very approachable and they can work with you. There are many opportunities for tutoring and working on your personal problem spots. That being said, you can maintain a high GPA and high grades if you really schedule out your coursework and give it your best efforts. You will lean a lot at this school and it will only benefit you in the future.
Dorm Life The staff is very helpful about finding the perfect living situation for new students. I don't personally live in a dorm, but they were helpful every step of the way.
Food and Dining Again, I don't live on campus, but no one I know has ever complained about the food choices on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The Savannah College of Art and Design is a wonderful college that offers a great education. The professors are all currently working or have worked in the industry. The school also offers numerous events to meet with or hear from the main professionals from each field.
Tips for prospective students Work and study hard. You will have at least forty to fifty hours of homework per week, and most professors have no sympathy for late or weak work.
Academic Rigor Classes and homework will be a challenge. The professors will accept nothing but your best work.
Food and Dining Food is decent and plenty of options are offered.
What to do for fun SCAD hosts many events both academic and recreational. Aside from the many SCAD events, downtown Savannah offers many restaurants and shops on Broughton street, City Market, and River Street. Tybee Island is a twenty minute drive from the dorms, and bus runs to the Mall, movie theater, and target on weekends.
Great for these types of students Great for hardworking artists with a passion for the industry. If you know what you want to study, or at least have an idea, this school will prepare you.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs and service opportunities are offered, from sketch club to humans vs. zombies. There are plenty of choices for students.

Tips for prospective students the financial part of all of this is always daunting, so make sure that you apply for scholarships- at the school and outside of it. i know i am!
Academic Rigor i visited nearly all of the buildings, and it seems that everyone keeps very busy, and the instructors are quite serious about what they do. it's crazy to hear stories about students not leaving buildings for days because they are working on projects!
Dorm Life as long as you don't mind having one or two roommates, everything should be fine. scad has some really nice places to stay in, especially for upperclassmen.
Food and Dining the food and dining options are pretty nice here, and plentiful.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences this is a school where the professors work you hard. you have to keep up with deadlines and manage yourself. the friends you make will last 10 weeks.
Tips for prospective students scad is not an easy school. the work is intense and the hours are long and hard. you should only want to come here if you want to bleed for your work. be able to defend your art and always be optimistic.
Academic Rigor extra rigorous.
Dorm Life i lived off campus my first year but from what i heard the dorms are kinda lame (especially at dyson). there are 3 students to a room sometimes but if they're friends it shouldn't matter.
Food and Dining the food is okay...but you'll really want to cook for yourself.
What to do for fun there are so many scad events and events in general around savannah like the film festival or the st. patricks day parade! not to mention there are a variety of great clubs and organizations.
Bang for the buck its expensive. its a private college. scholarships are your best bet.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus everything is haunted.
Great for these types of students artistic, socially awkward, overly outgoing, very quiet. its perfect for a large variety of students. everyone you meet is really great. the best part about scad is the people you meet.
Clubs and Activities so many clubs like the queers and allies, illustration club, cas! the list goes on.
Greek Life none at all i don't think.
Campus Safety you can really get in with or without your card if someone opens the door and there isn't security at the desk which there hardly is...expect on weekends.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences savannah college of art and design is great school and has fantastic programs all the way from creative writing to film. the classes are small which is perfect for one on one learning. i would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a design school.
Academic Rigor there is a lot of homework, honestly be prepared to not sleep. you can write a paper the night before, but you can finish a project the night before. keep up with your time management. you will learn so much and everything you will need to know. by the time you graduate you will be prepared for your career.
Dorm Life the dorms are really great. in each room you get your own shower. i had the best experience in the dorms and it was easy to meet new people.
Food and Dining the food is actually surprisingly decent. could be improved.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the school may be highly acclaimed for their brick and mortar offerings, but the elearning platform leaves much to be desired. on average, one out of every three professors so far has been unqualified and incapable of a decent education. i would not recommend it to anyone at this juncture and am looking to transfer out of the program entirely.
Tips for prospective students avoid this school. the administration is not helpful and they violated the ada/idea accommodations that were given on more than one occasion. the teachers you have a problem with will be teaching you 4-6 more classes since they have such a small database of instructors. so, you cannot even complain to administration at that point because you will end up having those teachers again.
Academic Rigor the school claims to require 45 hours a week in school work. i have logged over 60 with revisions.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences scad is one of the most challenging and demanding schools for talented artist, that want to improve their craft. scad will take you to a place that you would not believe your art would go. this school is not for those who do not have a passion for they want to do.
Tips for prospective students my advice for prospective student is this that is not your run of the mil television college campus. you will play hard and work hardier then all your non-artist friends as you train in your respective field. do not let the big name and successful talents intimidate you, as scad professors and staff will work with you until you are fully happy with your talent.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor at scad is heavy and worth every sleepless night and nightmare about a killer color wheel. foundation studies class are often the hardest with 20+ hours per class so plan your classes accordingly. the heavy workload that scad delivers you will do nothing but improve upon your talent.
Dorm Life living on campus is great way to make friends and blow off steam when the time comes. scad's residence life and housing puts on various activities that are great for meeting people and relaxing. the only negative thing i can say about dorm life is the small rooms and the age of the dorms.
Food and Dining the food that scad provides to us has its good and bad days. do not expect more then slightly above what you used to or still eat in high school. they are various campus-dining areas that offer mexican food to subs, which is great for the indian jones of food in us all.
What to do for fun scad is located in downtown savannah so there is plenty to do outside campus. the school does offer many on campus program so there is always something to do whether on campus or off.
Bang for the buck for the amount you pay to attend scad it worth every dime that you eventually pay back. when you leave your first quarter, you will already have a sense of responsibility and confidence in your art and yourself.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus human vs. zombies, record fair and midnight breakfast
Great for these types of students hippie
hipster
artstic
workaholic's
talentedClubs and Activities scad has over 70 clubs and student activities that will give you no excuse why you don't have any friends nor apart of some of the various clubs that the school offers. there are various out of the ordinary clubs as well such as scad's human vs. zombies, bronies, pokémon league and quidditch league.
Greek Life non-existent at scad
Campus Safety scad's open campus is emerged with security but they as with anything in the world of today are not always on their feet. you will feel safe on campus no matter what thought.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot from my English classes because we focus on topics related to arts and as a result I feel more confident to start my studio classes beginning this quarter.
Am enjoying being here I extremely enjoy the time I spend with students and my instructors. I also enjoy every event that is related to cinematic productions as well as student activities such as radio shows, I however don't feel conferable sometimes because I can't afford to get housing near school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply to as many scholarships as you can in order to cover most of the cost, make sure that you carefully plan your financial aid, develop a passion for what you want to pursue, make the most of your time at SCAD and never take a moment for granted.
Great for these types of students SCAD is a great lab for developing students who are passionate about pursuing a career in a specific and concentrated art major such as visual effects, fashion, graphic design...

SCAD Atlanta Student

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you've never taken any serious art classes before, then you'll learn a lot from day 1. I had taken such classes, so my first year (which was pretty much all foundation classes) was pretty repetitive for me, which made it rather boring. I did get to learn how to use some different drawing supplies, though, and I picked up a few still life drawing tips. My second year has been much better because I finally began to take classes for my major (animation). I have been teaching myself animation for a couple of years now, but I still learned a lot in my first animation class. My teacher (a former Disney animator) was very knowledgeable and helpful. The online classes are really good too. In fact, I enjoy them much more than the on-campus classes. They are well organized, and the teachers are often very helpful.
Am enjoying being here I have a lot of issues with this school. First of all, I should mention that I'm at the Atlanta campus, so I can't really comment on things at the Savannah campus. I kind of wish I was at the Savannah campus, because the Atlanta campus has an annoyingly small amount of some classes. A number of classes required for my major (animation) are only offered one or two quarters out of the year, and during those quarters only one class is available. There are no other class days or times to choose from in case that class is available at an inconvenient time or causes a scheduling conflict. Also, a lot of the teachers aren't that organized. Forget about getting your syllabus a few days before the start of the quarter so you can go buy supplies while things are still part of the back-to-school sales. The teachers have a place to upload the syllabi online, but only a few ever do ahead of time. And then on top of that, half the time they have you buying things that you never even use. And by the time that they decide to change the project requirements or just drop the project from the schedule, it's too late to return things. Art supplies are not cheap enough for that.
And don't rely on descriptions of projects that they post online, or in the syllabus. Sometimes the information is old, and they'll wind up telling you to do something different. Some of the teachers also like to decide things last minute, like where or when the required field trips are going to be. Speaking of the field trips, they oftentimes have nothing or little to do with the class. I've heard of public speaking classes being taken to the circus. I've also had a class where the requirement was just to go to one of the Thursday movies at the school. One of those nights the movie was Alien. I wouldn't mind the field trips being such things if I didn't need to instead be spending my time working on projects so I can get them done and get some sleep. And I could go on and on about First Year Experience and the passport that wasted a huge chunk of time in my first quarter. All the class did was show us where the gym and library was, and made us do some silly study skills exercise that would only have been fun or useful back in middle school. For the passport, I was dragged around the building looking for people to stamp it, and being made to go to a bunch of worthless events. One time I went to a study skills workshop (where I wound up being the only person attending), where in the end all the lady said was Yeah, you seem to already know how to study really well. That was after waiting 15 minutes in a different location, then going to the front desk asking if the location had changed, then following a counselor around for another 10 minutes trying to find out where the workshop had been moved to. The counselors aren't all that great, either, though they are all really nice people. Recently, my main counselor (who works with people in my major) left, and they replaced her with some other counselor, apparently at random. The lady was very nice, but she knew virtually nothing about my major (and she said so herself). After 30 minutes with her, she was still completely unable to help me with my schedule for the next quarter. And if you're planning on transferring in from another college, be careful. I know a lot of people who have had to take several classes over because their credits didn't transfer. Lastly, the school asks for monetary donations at least once a year. I haven't even graduated yet! It's hard enough paying for my own tuition and supplies. I think that the school is perfectly capable of funding its own scholarships without taking money from current students. So to sum it all up, more often than not, this school annoys me and I am not particularly enjoying being here. The only thing that I enjoy is learning more things about animation so that I'm continually one step closer to my dream career and being out of the education system.Bang for the buck Only one class that I've taken so far (my first animation class) has been worth the money. I hope that the rest of the classes in my major will be just as good, but I'm hesitant to get my hopes up too high. Pretty much all of the classes I took my first year weren't worth half of what I was paying. Every quarter I'd look at my tuition bill and be amazed how much I'd paid for so little in return.
Tips for prospective students My main tip for prospective students is not to get your hopes up too much. If you read the website and brochures over and over, you can begin to think you've signed up for an educational artistic paradise. I was just that excited before I started taking classes here, too. But by the end of the first quarter I'd started to see what the college was really like. But you know, that's just me. Everyone's experience will be different. Depending on what campus you go to, what your major is, what teachers you get, and even what your personality is like, you could love the school, hate it, or fall somewhere in between. I'd say, start your time at the school optimistically, and then see how it goes.
Great for these types of students Artistic students will do great here, as long as they are hard-working. This school runs on a quarter system, which means that each teacher has only 10 weeks to teach you as much as possible, so they are going to work you hard. There will be no breaks or slow points during the quarter. Manage your time well, and you can get a decent amount of sleep, though all-nighters are pretty inevitable (especially during finals). And remember that effort is what matters. It doesn't matter how quickly you can get your work done, it's how well that it's done that will determine your grade.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot SCAD promises to prepare their students for careers after graduation. Although I am just a freshman, I can see those principles in effect. Even as a freshmen, your major and its industry is your main focus. In my current classes, I can see my work paying off.
Am enjoying being here SCAD is located in the quaint town of Savannah. Not only does the school provide a multitude of activities, the city itself is a hub of history and excitement. There are ghost tours, restaurants, shops, and events that are unique to Savannah.
Bang for the buck The tuition for SCAD is expensive and unless you are blessed into a family that can pay your way with little trouble. However, the money is in good use with the facilities, transportation and security.
Tips for prospective students Come an visit Savannah for at least four days. This gives you a good feel for the city.
Great for these types of students All kinds of students come to SCAD. Honestly, it's not full of hipsters or moody artistic types. Also a great school to attend if you're from out of the country.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot While my undergraduate degree was from a much more technically based college, I'm learning so much at more artistic and creative methods at SCAD. It's a lot of fun!
Am enjoying being here Other than not being a huge fan of the weather (hot and humid), SCAD is exactly where I'm supposed to be to finish out my education. I love it!
Bang for the buck SCAD is expensive, but there are lots of scholarships available. The application program has been streamlined, so you don't have to fill out tons of scholarship apps to submit to the school. Make sure you apply!
Tips for prospective students Apply early for enrollment and make sure to apply for scholarships!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Coming to SCAD has definitely helped me improve my skills in all my artistic pursuits. I've learned a lot about 3D design, color theory, formal applications of different drawing media such as charcoal and I've expanded a lot on my already existing abilities like perspective and value. SCAD has the environment required to improve in all sorts of aspects that relate to art, either directly or indirectly.
Am enjoying being here I couldn't be more sure that SCAD is the school for me. I have been able to make literally hundreds of acquaintances with people that I can associate with -- being a niche school, SCAD has a lot of students that come here to study in a highly specialized field. The campus and the city are gorgeous, and they both offer a very homely perspective of the Southern life of the US. I am very glad I had SCAD in my top three college choices before I came here.
Bang for the buck SCAD is indubitably an expensive school. But it is worth what you pay for -- the tools are available for you to perform successfully, and the atmosphere and environment provided by the facilities prepares us spectacularly well for the professional field. They have highly specialized buildings for every major school, including the school of Building Arts, the school of Photography, and the school of Multimedia.
Tips for prospective students SCAD's workload starts easy, but picks up eventually. You will have to consider balancing your curricular and extracurricular activities properly -- SCAD has a TON of those to offer. Also, SCAD is in Georgia, a state notoriously recognized for giving out hundreds of scholarships to prospective students. It will be helpful to research exactly how much the school can provide for your education. And, as always, act early, act early, and act early. As early as you can, because the school is very willing and able to help you with your tuition if you show the right amount of interest.
Great for these types of students It is an art school, so if you like to get your hands dirty in the more artistic areas of your life, then this is the school for you. From the moment you get there you are bombarded with literally hundreds of opportunities to meet and network with other students and even potential employers, and create things for yourself and with others. Even if you are only looking to do Photography or Film & Television, you will still have the chance to interact with students from every other major school, and even meet people in the more specialized majors like Sequential Art.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge in my selected field of study and in other fields as well, and all in just four quarters so far! My illustrations have become noticeably better, and my knowledge of the illustration field is so much better as well. The professors are all professionals in their respective fields, so they know what they are talking about and how to explain it.
Am enjoying being here The professors are helpful and the local residents all have that certain Southern Hospitality about them. The students themselves range from eccentric to down-to-earth and from urbanites to townsfolk. With so many different people coming from exotic and interesting backgrounds, you get an eclectic combination that is always exciting to be mixed up in and network within. And it doesn't hurt that Savannah itself is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.
Bang for the buck The education is superb--literally the best money can buy--so it is definitely worth a substantial amount of money. However, I do feel that the standard meal plan is expensive for how ineffective it is. I often felt like I was wasting money because I never used all of the meal plans that I was assigned and had paid for. Thankfully I now have selected a more appropriate choice for my lifestyle and eating habits.
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus! SCAD is mixed in with the rest of Savannah, so you should see if you like the city before you decide on attending the college. It does get muggy and hot in the summer, but you don't need to be there in summer if you don't choose to, so that isn't exactly a problem. The best time to check it out would be on a SCAD day--they happen often, and the tours are great. And, of course, if you do choose to attend SCAD, be very selective about the meal plan you sign up for so that you aren't wasting money.
Great for these types of students SCAD is perfect for perspective artists that are dedicated to a wide range of art and design fields. As long as you are willing to work, there is no limit to the heights your talents can soar too through this fantastic school!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The school has a lot to offer. I learnt a lot in the classes I struggled in. My first quarter wasn't that bad.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoyed being at SCAD in Savannah. The city is beautiful especially at night. Even on the days that I spent the whole day working on a design project, I still have fun. SCAD is great and I can't wait to go back to learn some more.
Bang for the buck SCAD is ridiculously expensive. Unless you get some scholarships your going to have to worry about the price a lot. But if the price is covered you really get to enjoy the school and what it has to offer. The money is worth it but than again it better be for the money you spend.
Tips for prospective students >Manage your time as much as you can
>Don't drop out first quarter you still have the rest of the year to decide if this is right for you.
>Keep applying for scholarships for the rest of your school year.
>All nighters are okay, but if you do them more than twice a week, you need to manage your time better.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The art work in the Illustration building is crazy it makes me excited to learn new things
Will enjoy being here I can not say I will enjoy everything I will enjoy the classes, the learning experience but the little things like maybe having to ride my bike to each class is not enthralling.
Bang for the buck I wasn’t originally going to attend SCAD but all of my teachers pushed me into going, once I was accepted I took a visit. I wanted to cry because of the class buildings I cannot believe I could ever go anywhere so beautiful or amazing the art work was so thrilling I know I am going to learn a lot about different styles and enhance my talent. SCAD is worth it.
Tips for prospective students Try for as many scholarships as you can if you are out of state.
Great for these types of students I think SCAD will be great for anyone wanting to improve their talent or make their dream in any type of art field come true if they want it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are many art schools in the world. Many have had very artists attend them that have become famous worldwide. The difference in today's world is that very few students going to art schools will be come globally known. The economy is creating trouble for everyone, and that especially includes artists because there is no strong need for art students. SCAD not only teaches you to become a better artist, but it also teaches you to be a professional. The learning experience here is better than any other art school you will find.
Am enjoying being here There are different activities and events to attend at SCAD every week, some of the most famous being SCAD Film Festival and the SCAD fashion show. You will never be bored if you attend SCAD. Also, one of the best things about SCAD is being able to live in Savannah. The architecture is beautiful and the layout of the city is a lot of fun. Many professors have had me do homework in parks which almost doesn't feel like homework at all.
Bang for the buck SCAD is a very expensive school, but you know that you will come out of the experience a greater person. Since SCAD is private, it offers many scholarships to students, even in their acceptance letters and offers a lot of help with loans. It is definitely worth it to attend SCAD if you are interested because the experience is different than any other art school you could attend.
Tips for prospective students Definitely apply for as many scholarships at SCAD and other places as soon as possible. They start reading over the applications early, so the ones that are turned in early have a greater chance of winning. Scholarships are gold at SCAD!
Great for these types of students SCAD is a great school for graphic designers, industrial designers, and animation majors. Those are the majors that SCAD is famous for. There are many other majors at SCAD as well, but if you are interested in one of those SCAD is definitely for you. It is also very good for students that enjoy a smaller classroom setting so they can get one on one time with their professor. All of my professors so far here have been extremely helpful when it comes to talking to each and every student.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot SCAD has great professors, many of whom are still practicing their profession. All of the professors I had were knowledgeable and well versed. They were able to help in all situations regarding the class and for future jobs prospects for us as students. I only had one bad teacher who knew what he was teaching, but was not a very nice man. He had little understanding of others' perspectives and didn't really care for opinions. I learned a great deal because the professors had experiences from personal work.
Did enjoy being here The time at SCAD was great and I really liked the way the administration worked to help you get on your way to a career in the art and design field. The only problem I had was that, being from a city and not really the party type, the quite town of Savannah was not rowdy enough for me. Almost everything closes early (~6pm) except for the bars. I really liked the classes but the transportation to and from classes was a little scary. The people of Savannah were mostly nice but some few groups were not the happiest with all the SCAD students hanging around their home.
Bang for the buck The experience was a great one to be able to travel so far off of my regular life in Chicago. The price paid for this experience though was a costly one. Even with a fairly decent scholarship, it did not cover the full tuition or the room and board (including meal plan). I felt like every month they were asking for more of my money to pay for whatever. Art is an expensive program of study but I don't think it should be this tiring.
Tips for prospective students The class times allows for a good enough time to do homework and since there isn't much else to do around here, there is no need to worry about not getting things done. Although I had some time management problems anyway because of the way the school bus systems ran. I would recommend a bicycle to get around and to order your supplies online at dickblick.com or something because their TWO supply stores are pricier than the online alternatives, although slightly more convenient.
Great for these types of students To fully enjoy this school, you must be someone who either loves small towns or want to experience the change to see if you do. I would recommend to definitely visit the school if you have a chance.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Classes are really intense, but you definitely leave them prepared and you learn a ton. Every required class is worth taking.
Am enjoying being here Although the work is very hard, there is still plenty of free time. Every weekend is a three day weekend because nobody has class on friday, and its very easy to get along with most people here. Overall, its stressful but so worth it and still enjoyable.
Bang for the buck Its really expensive, especially if you live in the dorms and have to pay for a meal plan. The classes are worth the money but the dorms and food are not. The classes are taught by teachers who really know what they are doing and they are typically very helpful.
Tips for prospective students Always get your work done before you decide to party. It may seem like you have a ton of time to do that project, but art projects always take longer than you would think, and when you wake up after partying all night, the last thing you want to do is to work. I watched a lot of people get kicked out and lose scholarships because they didn't start out with their priorities straight.
Great for these types of students Anybody that likes a party, creative people that dont fit in anywhere else, artsy people that love intellectual conversation

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I went to an Open House last year. It was a six hour drive and during that time I was worried the school wasn't what I'd expect it to be. Boy, was I wrong to worry! The tour I was given showed me so many different departments from illustration to animation. It opened up whole new possibilities to me I never thought existed. I was a little overwhelmed by the courses available since my high school does not offer an art classes. It was almost too much to take in on one day. Correction, it was too much. Over all, I learned so many new things. I wish I could visit again.
Will enjoy being here The campus itself is very beautiful, as well as the general downtown Savannah area. The air is clean and the scenery is exactly what an artist needs to relax. I don't even live in Savannah and I love it already. It makes you feel so at ease.
Bang for the buck This school is extremely, EXTREMELY expensive, but I do believe every dollar you spend will count. From what I've seen and from what I've been told by people who have actually attended one of the SCAD campuses, the money is absolutely worth it. It's just collecting said money that's the hard part.
Tips for prospective students Gather as many scholarships, grants and loans as you can if you're serious about attending this school. Do not procrastinate because it WILL be your downfall. They will kick you out if your grades fall too low.
Great for these types of students Amazing school for those with a love for art.
