Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Savannah State makes tons of learning opportunities available to you, but you have to seek them out on your own. Going to class is not enough! The library has great hours, and there are a dozen tutors on campus. If you utilize these your grades will really improve. Make sure if you are placed in 100- level classes, you do your best to test out quickly! Also keep in mind that your professors are your friends! Do not go an entire semester without stopping by during their office hours.
Am enjoying being here Savannah is a beautiful city and the people are much more friendly and accomodating than they were in my home state. There is also plenty to do, two large malls (Oglethorpe and Savannah), River Street in Downtown Savannah, very historical and festive. However, all of these activities are hard to partake in without transportation! Remain outgoing and make a genuine effort to meet people, go out with friends in large groups, and away from private residences.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of Georgia you should have no problem. The Georgia Hope Scholarship and Equalization Grant will take care of relatively all of your needs. But there are lots of scholarships offered that financial aid will not mention to you to keep them secret. Out-of-state students, like myself have a slight problem! There is a waiver you can apply for for in-state tuition, but no one will tell you unless you ask, and the deadlines will be mum on all of these offers. Be aggressive, demand assisstance!
Tips for prospective students Always be on top of your financial aid, meal plans and housing and check out scholarships early, as you will not be informed of them after you've been accepted.
Great for these types of students I would say this school is great for natives of Savannah and the surrounding areas, especially if you have you have your own transportation, you will need it!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Professors take the time to work with you if you need help. That is if you don't give them a hard time during class. They normally help during office hours, so make sure you find out the hours and use it to your advantage.
Use your time wisely!!! Time Management!Am enjoying being here Savannah has a lot of sight seeing you can do. Savannah is a historic city, so everything has a meaning behind it when you get to the historic part of Savannah. I have learned a lot about the Savannah, Georgia history as well as African American History just by being in Savannah.
If you just stay in your room and not participate in activities or enjoy the city, then you will not enjoy yourself and would want to transfer schools. That is one of the biggest problems college students have with their colleges but never admit it.Bang for the buck SSU is one of the cheapest public HBCU anywhere. But I am a cheap, so I complain about money. It is a great school to attend if money is the issue.
Tips for prospective students Always call the Financial Aid building about funding for school, as while as Housing to make sure you have a room to stay in when you get there.
Everything is going electronic now, so your email and PAWS account will need to be checked daily.
But stay on top of Financial Aid!!! They are mighty slow!Great for these types of students Get involved within the school; it will make the college experience worth your money and time. You are already paying for it within the tutition, so you might as well use it and not let the money go to waste.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Savannah State University is often classified as a just gotta make it type school. People realize that you only need a 2.3 to be eligible for acceptance and incorrectly assume that the requirements are low because it is not a challenging school. In actuality, the entry requirements for applying to SSU are purposely set low because they do not want to deny any one the right to an education. The admissions staff here realize that students may not have been as focused in high school, or some were not interested in the subject matters being taught...so they try to be more lenient. Unlike K-12 schooling, continuing your education after high school is optional. As kind of an incentive for a new beginning and fresh start, Savannah State University makes it easy for students to get into the institution. Although it is easy to get in, it is also easy to get (kicked)out. SSU expects the best from their students or at the bare minimal an effort and if some students do not meet that expectation, they are put on academic suspension.
Am enjoying being here ALWAYS things to do, just look around on the bulletin boards or get on twitter to find out what is going on. Also, it is to your benefit to get to know lots of people because text will cirrulate about parties and upcoming events :)
Bang for the buck a lot of new construction is being done. freshman will have ALL new dorms.
also, because of the $1.00 transportation fee increase we will have off campus shuttle bus this upcoming fall 2011 semester that will take students with no car to local storesTips for prospective students even though you only have to have a 2.3 try to aim higher.
study for your SAT *1350 and ACT*26 so you can score high enough to be exempt from regents exam.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at Savannah State University, really take the time out to help their students learn. Professors usually give outside help during their office hours. Finding out your professor office hours is very important, so use your time wisely. If you need help the professors will not approach you, you have to seek their help.
Am enjoying being here Savannah is a historic city and has much to offer to someone who has never been here before. Many college students say that they do not enjot Savannah, yet they do not tend to go out and see what is here. Staying locked up in a dorm room will not help at all. I have learned much about Savannah and some of the streets that are here. Victory St. for an example. Victory St. was named Victory St. because this is where General Sherman walked to the ocean to fight for Victory. This is why the street is called Victory St.
Bang for the buck Savannah State University has a great way of sending off someone's refund check not on time, at the last minute, and around the time of a major event on campus. Last year, I thoughtt I was going to have my refund check valentine weekend but it did not come till two weeks later. Don't get me wrong, the refund checks are wonderful. Especially when you are in college and need money. College is not cheap and you will need money.
Tips for prospective students I believe that Savannah State University is one of the greatest Universities in the state of Georgia. When you enter Savannah State or another University of your choice. Always think postitive, never doubt yourself or your work, have fun, get your work done and in on time, hold your head up high, never let someone get you down (your professor included), and just enjoy life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot While I don't find my courses to be too strenuous, I do feel like I'm learning. Some may complain that the teachers are too lax, or feel as though they're not doing their job, but in my own opinion your learning experience is your own. The teacher's teaching, or lack thereof, shouldn't deter you from learning as much as you can.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy it at Savannah State, but sometimes I feel like it's a little slow. Coming here from the city where it seems like there's always something to do, it was a hard transition for me to get used to it down here. However, the people I have met have been pleasant, and I love the weather. Also, Downtown is great for shopping.
Bang for the buck While I do feel as though I'm learning, and I enjoy the school, I'm not sure if my money has been well invested. A lot of development is going on at the school, using the tuition of the students, and I feel like since it's our money being used, we should have more of a say of what is going to be implemented and built. I also feel that experiences in the main offices could go smoother. I've heard students say that the office had misplaced a document of theirs, made a mistake in their student bill, etc.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely come to visit the school first. I didn't, and wound up still enjoying the campus, but my experience could have turned out a lot differently. Also, some of the people in my incoming class found each other on Facebook. I recommend joining your class page, or following each other on Twitter. It gives you the opportunity to get a brief glimpse of who you're going to be meeting.
Great for these types of students Students that feel they can handle both the slow days and the livelier days. If you're the kind of person that feels the need to always have something to do, or has a hard time making your own fun, this wouldn't be an ideal school. I would recommend this school for students that can enjoy their downtime as well as going out.

Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful; the people are great; and the culture is extraordinary! Everyone is nice and very helpful. There are plenty of things you can do in order to stay involved.
Bang for the buck Tuition is not all that expensive its actually very reasonable. And the teachers do make you work for your grades but you definitely get your money's worth.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you stay on top of your financial aid. Stay organized and always put homework and school work FIRST! Remember you are paying for this so if you slack off you have to pay even more to retake the class! SSU welcomes everyone and makes you feel like family as soon as you step on campus.
Great for these types of students If you enjoying meeting people, being active in the community, and learning come to ssu!

Am enjoying being here Savannah State University is a very stressful environment. Everything is about money, if you don't have a parking decal you will be ticketed $35 just everytime they see your car until you get one. I am a senior just before I was about to pay my senior dues I got 70 in parking fines... not to mention the fines you get during random room checks which they do whenever and how many time they please.
Bang for the buck I honestly would not waste my money time or energy. Someone must have made up the previous reviews unless we are talking about two different schools. We are rated the decond most dangerous school in the nation
Tips for prospective students Do research before pickin a school. I was able to finish but its been a fight almost to the death. You have to be strong to finish at state. Its more likely that you will be arrested at state the graduate from their

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Savannah State is a perfect college for those who like small class sizes. Savannah State is also a great for those who are not looking to take out huge amounts of loans because the tuition and fees are not bad at all. Lastly Savannah State has tons of on campus activities.
Tips for prospective students Students who are wishing to attend Savannah State, I encourage you to take advantage of all the help resources that they have on campus. They have free torturing just about every day. Take part in the on campus activities but do not lose your focus in classes.
Academic Rigor Savannah State is all about education. Their class sizes are perfect for that one on one attention a student may need. Generally the professors are always in their office when they say they are and are always willing to assist you.
Dorm Life Dorm Life here at Savannah State is awesome. We have two new freshmen dorms called Tiger Point and Tiger Place. This past year(fall 2011-Spring 2012) was the first year they was in use. They are very comfortable and spacious. And all the dorms are Co-Ed.
Food and Dining The Food here is good, but sometimes you can get tired of it and want to order out. We Have a cafeteria that opens from 7:30am and closes at 8:00pm. In the Student Union or the U as we the students call it, there is a Starbucks, sub shop called Tiger deli, a grill spot called Austin grill, culture shock where they serve Chinese food one week and Caribbean food the next, and a chicken shack.
What to do for fun For fun I recommend going to the football games, basketball games, and the baseball games. Go to the open mics, and Greek strolls. there is always going to be something fun going on every week at SSU.
Bang for the buck To get more Bang for the buck, go to class. Make the Professors work for their money. Go to every sporting event you can. you paid for it and its in your tuition. And get every meal swipe you can.

Academic Rigor While classes differ by one's choice of degree, most students have no problem receiving A's and B's. Tutoring sessions are available every day of the week and any dedicated scholar should have no problem here at SSU.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Savannah State is the place to for you to get your second chance if you didn't apply your self like you should have in high school. The Professors(at least the one's I've had so far) are willing to help you as long as your trying to help yourself. The campus is the perfect size if you don't have a car.
Tips for prospective students Try to stand out with your professors so that they are willing to help you if your sitting on a bubble. Take advantage of the rewrite connection but try to make friends to look over your papers for you. If possible try to get books from amazon or ask around before buying from the book store you can save your self up to a hundred dollars.
Academic Rigor Just get to class on time, show respect (not sucking up), and do the work and you'll be fine. Study groups wont hurt.
Dorm Life Just remember to get your work done first, and if you have a problem with your roommate that you cant fix don't wait it out.
Food and Dining Its easy not to eat healthy...
What to do for fun Depending on who you chose to have around you there's always something fun.
Bang for the buck With all the things there are it seems like it would cost more.
Great for these types of students There is room for everyone here as long as you don't close yourself off.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I find that a major purpose in life is to accumulate as much knowledge as possible. It is not only good to have knowledge, but the ability to incorporate and use such a tool in everyday life affairs is important. Here at Savannah State University, the professors take the time to work with us students in and outside of the classroom. Their office doors are open and welcome all who want, or need help in any way. Being ahead of the pack is a norm here. One can seek and will find all that he/she is looking for here at Savannah State University satisfying all requirements that the real world has to offer.
Am enjoying being here I matriculated to Savannah State University in August 2008. Since being here I feel it has been one of the right decisions I've made in my life. Not only did coming here get me away from home, but it opened my eyes to who I am more, introduced me to brand new possibilities and desires, and helped me to mature properly. There are those moments where I can not stand things that may go on here, but thinking on where I have come from, I realize that the things I consider minor annoyances are pushing me to be a better person. My understanding of the situation enables me to grow. It's the college by the sea. SSU I hold dear to thee.
Bang for the buck I believe that I am receiving quality teaching for the money paid to the institution. In the classroom, my professors contain an ample amount of knowledge of their subjects. Also, many changes have occurred since my freshman year here. There are more organizations to be a part of (Savannah State Eco-Tigers for example), a better means of transportation provided for us students (city bus transit on and off campus), services (computer services for example), and the campus beautification process has been outstanding in adding that extra pizazz, that I feel, has made me appreciate being here at Savannah State University even more.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospect students would be to strive. Do not become a part of a crowd that is not going anywhere fast. Be focused and have goals set for yourself. Set them high, so when you breakthrough, you obtain a better understanding of what you want to do and how to do it. You will grow in ways you may not have thought possible. Get out and join as many organizations, thus, bringing about change for yourself and those involved. Come here to grow and not to be the same person when arriving. Be active in what goes on in the surrounding the area by means of community service or volunteer work. If your not a part of the solution, then your a part of the problem.
Great for these types of students Savannah State University is great for those students who want to attend a small college scene in an active city. SSU offers so much for being a smaller institution of higher learning. You will need drive, dedication, and a ability to strive for the best.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Many of the professors I have had are very knowledgeable of their subjects. So far, the best teachers I have had are Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Rafaczs of the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Department.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, but many of the lovely trees are being cut down, to my dismay. In addition to this, the workers at the campus tend to give you the run-around. I am unsure as to whether this is from lack of information on their part or the lack of wanting to deal with the students. Their attitudes change when they deal with our parents and I find this unacceptable, for the students here are adults and deserve to be treated as such. Lastly, the food here is centered around unhealthy fast-food diets which is counter-productive to active students and higher GPAs.
Bang for the buck They charge a lot of money for the one or two healthy food items which rarely have the option of a side and drink. The unhealthy items, such as burgers, pizza, and fried chicken are affordable and always include a side and drink. For students like me, who have a healthy diet and rely on fruits, steamed vegetables, and organic foods, it is a constant struggle. Foods high in fat, calories, and grease, such as the foods at Savannah State, disagree with our bodies and make us ill. Healthy foods are indeed more expensive, but they are vital in maintaining healthy weight, blood pressure, and energy.
Tips for prospective students When you pick out a school, look for more than a nice campus. Healthy food is essential to maintaining a high GPA and healthy body weight. The food at this university is extremely unhealthy.
Great for these types of students If you live on campus in an apartment-style dorm or if you live off-campus and are able to afford healthy food, this is the school for you. If you cannot afford healthy food or if you have to live in a traditional-style dorm, this is not the school for you.
