    Am learning a lot

All of the teacher's I have had in the past two semesters have been really good. At first I felt like I was back in high school, but it was just a mental thing because that's what everyone said the school was like. Once I started attending classes I knew it was so much different than high school.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers and staff are extremely helpful when questions arise. Teachers are very understanding when you need to miss class.

    Bang for the buck

For what I am paying to attend class here, I am getting a lot of my college experience and I think it's great.

    Tips for prospective students

Have goals, meet with an academic advisor and set up an educational plan...and FOLLOW IT! (It helps SO much when choosing classes)

Great for these types of students

First time in college, students who work, students with kids

    Did learn a lot

I absolutely learned a lot at Seminole State College! Coming into the school I was not expecting to be blown away by the education, but I definitely was. The professors are nothing short of remarkable. They are intelligent and clearly knowledgeable in their fields. Even more importantly they are passionate about sharing that knowledge, which makes learning all the more fun. I was hardly ever disappointed with a class, and I always felt like I was learning. The professors at Seminole aren't just about getting you through with a passing grade, they actually want you to learn and to engage with the material. Their effort clearly shows in how much I was able to take from my classes.

    Did enjoy being here

The five semesters I spent at Seminole State have been some of the best in my life. This is mostly due to the amazing faculty and staff. From highly qualified professors, to caring administration, to clean bathrooms, I was never disappointed with Seminole State. There is always so much to do, so many activities to be involved in, that I was never bored. It is obvious how much Seminole State cares about it's students.

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State is cheap compared to other Florida Colleges, and it is definitely worth more than what I paid for it. The professors are over qualified, many of the ones I was privileged with having doctorate degrees, and they are passionate about teaching. The campus is actually quite beautiful and is under million dollar renovations. The new library can be described as luxurious. There are computer labs available at several different sites. The class sizes are small, in my experience ranging from 13-32. If you seek it out, you get personalized attention from administration, counselors, financial aid counselors, and professors. There is tutoring included in your tuition. The school does its best to provide students who need it with working and employment opportunities. I couldn't be happier with how I spent my first two years of higher education.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved!! My time at Seminole State was incredible and life changing because of my decision to get involved with Student Activities such as the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and other clubs and organizations. I had the opportunity to make very close relationships with the Student Life faculty, which has opened up several doors for me. Leadership Retreats are free to students and the best possible way to spend a weekend. I learned and changed so much from being involved, and I can't recommend the Leadership Institute enough! Stop by the Student Life office at C-102 for an amazing opportunity. Also, if you have a 3.2 GPA, join the Honors Institute! The classes and professors are amazing, and the other honors students became family. You won't regret it!

Great for these types of students

Anyone! Traditional and non-traditional students alike are welcome and encouraged at Seminole State!

    Am learning a lot

The college offers a wide breadth of study opportunities and there is truly something for everyone. The professors at the school have taught me both the power of learning, and how to like learning. The college has inspired me to spread my wings in search of new knowledge in various fields outside of the classroom, while at the same time teaching me to appreciate our world from the knowledge that I have learned inside the classroom. Instilling a love of knowledge is something this school does very well, and it is something that takes a lot of care and effort to provide.

    Am enjoying being here

The college experience here has been highly enjoyable. The college has a low key aspect to it that makes it very friendly and welcoming to new students, and returning students alike. The campus staff are very friendly as well, and along with the teachers all of the workers at the school make the college transition seem less of a worry some event, and more of a gateway to discovery event, which allows students to fit in comfortable with the college and enjoy the experience.

    Bang for the buck

I know a lot about the rates of colleges in the state of Florida, and Seminole State College is one of the cheapest. Cheap does not always equate to good education though, but in Seminole State College of Florida's case the college is both cheap ($96.80 per credit hour) and offers deeply fulfilling education in a wide variety of subjects with well versed professors in all fields. The college is especially good for foreign students who need an affordable yet worthwhile education and is also good for full-time employees as they offer many online classes at no extra charge. The college's nursing program is also highly regarded throughout the state of Florida and is definitely a worthwhile plan of study. The only possible problem centers around out-of-state students who have to reside in the state for at least a year before they can pay the normal tuition rates. Until they can prove they have lived in Florida for at least a year, they must pay 3 times the price (about $300 per credit hour).

    Tips for prospective students

Seminole State College of Florida's welcoming attitudes toward all students lessens the amount of worry for students who are nervous about college, but if you are planning to attend the school I would advise setting up an early orientation session, preferably two months ahead of your starting semester so that you can get familiar with the various aspects of the college and so that you can get into the classes that you want since the college is one of the fastest growing in the state and its not good to try to register at the last minute. Other than signing up early, there is not much to advise prospective students about, just sign up early and enjoy the experience.

Great for these types of students

First time in college students, full-time working students, foreign students, nursing majors (one highest regarded nursing programs in the state) interior design majors (B.A. offered and a well-known program), returning students, and those without proficient English language skills (English as a Second Language or ESOL classes and English for Academic Purpose(s) or EAP classes are available and highly regarded). Also, the college now offers five Bachelor degrees (they are in Business Information Management, Interior Design, Information Systems Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, and Construction). The college is also good for anyone who is undecided about their major or just looking for an A.A. or A.S. to transfer into a 4-year college.

Seminole State College of Florida, particularly in the Honors program, has a dedicated staff to help students success and achieve more. A varied array of interdisciplinary honors courses are available to the independent thinking student. Administration staff are friendly and ready to assist students with many concerns.

    Tips for prospective students

Professors at Seminole State, and most two-year institutions, have the resources and time to focus on the quality of discussion and lectures rather than the quality of their research. Get to know your professors and take advantage of office hours. You will be surprised at how ready to help many professors are.

    Academic Rigor

As a two-year institution focused on awarding students with associate's degrees, rigor is a subjective term. Some students find all kinds of coursework rigorous. My own experience would state that coursework here is like many other institutions of this type. It doesn't get rigorous until students begin to tackle their core bachelor classes.

    Dorm Life

Seminole State does not house students.

    Food and Dining

The on campus cafe, Nature's Table, is overpriced and sketchy. There are some safe selections, but if I can help it, I go elsewhere.

    What to do for fun

Seminole State supports many student led clubs and organizations and has a very active volunteering core. Weekly events are held to provide some entertainment to students between classes.

    Bang for the buck

Seminole State tuition is approximately 60% of what standard public institutions charge for in-state students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing really unusual. The Oviedo, FL campus does have a nature path around its perimeter.

Great for these types of students

Undecided students who are not ready to commit to loans or majors should strongly consider Seminole State or other two-year institutions. You pay a lot less money for the courses, affording you the time to experiment.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an ample supply of clubs and student organizations, from as meager as simple interests to chapters of international organizations.

    Greek Life

As a two-year school, there is no greek life, and I don't believe I am missing out either.

    Campus Safety

Seminole State employs a small contingent of unarmed security guards. They respond to campus emergencies and keep the parking lot safe.

I really enjoy going here. It is close to my home, it is affordable, and most of the professors are very easy to get a long with. I am happy that SSC now offers Bachelors degrees as well.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that you start the application and registration process early. The school has a lot of students and the administration office can get very busy when it gets close to the start of the semester. Luckily, many things can be done on the SSC Website.

    Food and Dining

There are a few options on campus, everything they serve is good. There are also sevaral resteraunts/fast food places near by.

    What to do for fun

SSC has many clubs and activities as well as sports teams.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is definitely affordable and the education is well worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school is located right behind the county jail and courthouse.

ssc is a great institution for it's value alone. attending this school over a more expensive university allows me to take the prerequisites i need to further my education. the vast majority of professors i have had, especially the ones whose classes are right in line with the field i intend to work in, have been amazing, far exceeding my expectations.

    Tips for prospective students

be sure you know all the your dates for deadlines and such! getting your information and class choices in on (or better yet) ahead of time, will ensure that you will be able to ask questions when you need to, get to talk with a counselor a couple times if you need to like i did, and sign up for the exact class you want. also, check out the available professors and how they stack up to be sure you get the teacher that you'll learn best from.

    Academic Rigor

i feel pretty adequately challenged in the classes i'm taking right now. i take four classes and work an average of 25 hours a week, and i am able to get all my homework and studying done in a reasonable amount of time. prioritizing and motivation are key factors in doing so, however. so! don't procrastinate. :-)

    Dorm Life

well, seeing as there are no dorms here...i'm pretty sure everyone likes their own bedrooms, and i will give this area 5 stars :-)

    Food and Dining

nature's table is delicious, though a little over priced. we need a starbucks on campus; that would be amazing. :-)

    What to do for fun

there are over 50 clubs that anyone is able to join at ssc. the sanford/lake mary campus has a lot of grassy areas, perfect for napping in the florida sunshine, throwing a frisbee around, or getting clcose to nature while you study for that biology test tomorrow. ;-)

    Bang for the buck

you save so much money taking prerequisite and general classes at smaller schools than at expensive universities, and i really appreciate this because i want to take full advantage of the scholarship and grant money i have, without which i would not be able to attend school at all.

Great for these types of students

ssc is great for first-time in college students, those who have part- or full-time jobs, and those with kids. the varying class times allow for your school schedule to adapt to your life schedule...much easier than the other way around.

    Am enjoying being here

It's unusual at first because there is no on-campus living area there is a lack of community among the students but the school offers good events and has a nice library and other places to hang out.

    Bang for the buck

    very cheap school.

    Tips for prospective students

Most of what you need is online but if you get information for a adviser that you are unsure about, always double check it.

Great for these types of students

Recent high school graduates looking to cheaply and easily obtain a AA degree before moving on to another school and adults wanting to return to school finish college. Really good school for anyone who lives nearby.

just keep at it, don't let your self get distracted by work or parties or whatever. You will have time for that, but make sure school is first then everything else.

Seminole State is great because the classes sizes are small so you really get a one-on-one experience with your professors. All of them love their jobs and are excited to teach their students.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy Seminole State because there is so much to do. I became involved with the student activities on campus and they make school so much better.

    Tips for prospective students

Always check out your professors online before you sign up for a class and make sure that the times you choose are good for you. Use the library in the partnership building because it has tons of resources. Also try and get involved in things that interest you. There is a club for almost everything at Seminole State.
