    Am learning a lot

Everyday I come with a new bit of knowledge that I didn't have the day before. It refreshing to be challenged at school, but not overwhelmed. The best part is having the ability to engage in a new assortment of conversations because of my recently learned information. The teaching staff is more then helpful and cooperative. They always welcome you to ask questions and express concerns. The counseling staff is also outstanding. They are almost always available and help you with even the most insignificant requests. They really lead and steer you on the path to your destination.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is welcoming, yet spacious. All the classrooms and neat and modern, as enjoyable to be in as classrooms can be. The library, learning and writing center and test centers are all very resourceful and accommodating, making studying and research more convenient and successful.

    Bang for the buck

The costs are all reasonable and you are getting more then you pay for. The time and dedication teachers put into teaching and helping is less than equivalent to the amount you pay. The only downfall is the price of books, but that's the case with any books, anywhere.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for classes early and know what interests you. Most classes are challenging so be sure to choose courses you are interested in. There is a huge variety of courses, with an assortment of times making your schedule most accommodating to you and your life.

Great for these types of students

Great for all students! You can accomplish as much as you prefer to. They're are Associate and Bachelor degrees available making the Sierra experience whatever you'd like it to be. Its your school, your way!

The teacher at Sierra College are HANDS DOWN the best teachers around. I have sat-in on multiple classes at some of the top universities in the nation and have found myself comparing their teaching abilities to the abilities of teachers at Sierra College. Sierra College teachers understand the potential of junior college students and will be your best friends in helping you succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

The social environment around campus has a very warm feeling. At Sierra College, we take great pride in all of our athletic programs. Also, Sierra College is located in the most beautiful part of California. The weather is always perfect at Sierra College and the students that attend are always friendly and welcoming

    Bang for the buck

Attending Sierra college is THE smartest financial and educational decision that I have ever made. With classes costing only $26/unit, your tuition is often cheaper than the cost of books! On top of this, units from Sierra College are easily transferred to hundreds of colleges all over California.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to Sierra College if you are even considering going to college in California. Between the cheaper units, excellent teachers, and overwhelming school pride, there is no way that you can go wrong in applying to Sierra College.

You can't beat the price.. You can get all of you prereq's for a transferable BA here and save lots versus a typical 4 year University.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the counselors. They are there to help and want to help you succeed.

Sierra College is a fantastic school for all types of students. The majority of classes are transferable, and there is a large selection of majors to choose from. Although the counselors are not the greatest, the school provides a great number of resources for current and transferring students.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you check to see if a class you want to take is accepted at a CSU or UC. Use the worksheets in the counseling office to plan out how many classes you have, need, and want to take that work for you. Definitely plan to arrive very early to school during the first week due to an influx in parking.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of the courses at this school are extremely varied and are based solely on the teaching style of the professors. There are some classes that are very easy, and some classes that are very hard. However, the majority of professors make themselves available for office hours frequently in order to better help their students.

    Dorm Life

Sierra has a small dorm available, and are a great financial choice for international students. The dorm provides a good sense of community as well as a guaranteed parking spot when school is in session. They are neat and clean, but for the most part rather bland and uninteresting.

    Food and Dining

While the food genre is not too varied on campus (ex: Hamburgers, Pizza, Sandwiches, Salad), the quality is excellent and the taste is delicious. The staff is very friendly, and enjoy making the food how you ask for it. It is nice to have actual meals available and not just junk food. However, the junk food is equally good.

    What to do for fun

There are many venues near the college that provide entertainment. About two miles from the school is a bowling alley along with a wide variety of dining options. In the neighboring city of Roseville, there are movie theaters, a mall, an ice skating rink, miniature golf, a water park, laser tagging, arcades, and go-karts.

    Bang for the buck

Although prices continue to rise, the school offers fantastic financial aide options as well as a used book program to help cut costs for students. The campus is lovely, with much foliage and animal life. It is a good school, but is getting a little too pricey for a community college.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Near the science building, there are many different types of dinosaurs and sea creatures drawn out along the paths as a basic visual education course for students as they walk along.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student who is dedicated, hardworking, and goal-oriented, Sierra College is perfect for you and your long-term plans. The school not only offers fantastic majors and transfer courses, but career planning and life-skill classes as well.
If you are a student who doesn't have much time to dedicate to school, but still want to learn, the school offers many classes year round to meet your needs.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a very large and active club atmosphere on campus. They are always present in the square doing fundraisers and raising awareness for different causes. Everyone is friendly, and are an asset to the school. Activities are also frequent on campus and allow students to participate in extra-curricular activities and meet new people.

    Greek Life

Although they exist as a college-affiliated group, they are practically non-existent. They are never present on campus and have never been very community friendly.

    Campus Safety

There is never a day when security is not visibly present on campus. They patrol frequently and thoroughly, and are good about night time safety. There are many lights around campus, making night visibility fantastic, and there is rarely any type of incident at the school.

Sierra College is a school that is connected with nature because it is not in a dense city. The students are competitive and smart. Many professors are excellent at teaching.

    Tips for prospective students

The school is a relaxed school and all of the students are easy to get along with.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the subjects attempted, however, each is very rigorous.

    Dorm Life

I never went to the dorms but my brother did, and he said it was cool because he could go to class in pajamas. The only exception is that the students in the dorms like to party.

    Food and Dining

I hate the food and dining because it is to expensive to participate in dining. And the food is made in order for the company to make money, not taste.

    What to do for fun

One can attend sporting events, music, and local hangouts.

    Bang for the buck

    I think it is medium.

    Campus Safety

There are cops and security. A cop parks in the parking lot every morning to make sure the students do not violate the stop signs or speed.

I am very impressed with the huge variety of departments and courses that Sierra College carries. Also, the counselors are very cooperative and friendly with the students. If there is one thing that does bother me, it would be the fact that there aren't enough online courses.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I would suggest contacting and getting to know a counselor that works at Sierra College. In this way, students will learn about the different programs that Sierra College offers.

    Academic Rigor

There are some really good teachers at Sierra College, but overall I feel the teacher quality is a little bit low. Alot of the teachers I have had so far waist the class time trying to turn there class into a political one sided platform.

    Dorm Life

I have never had to stay in a dorm so I can not give this a rating. In that case the rating I have given for Dorm Life is inaccurate. I just gave the rating because this survey wanted it.

    Food and Dining

I must admit that the food at the Sierra College cafeteria is expensive, gross, and non-nutritious. They sell a lot of processed foods such as chips, coke, pizza, etc. In addition, the food is often stale as if it had been sitting out for a long time. Lastly, it costs at least $4 for a single small slice of pizza, and $1 for each extra meal item. Definitely, not a budget friendly place.

    What to do for fun

Sierra College provides different clubs including an environmental group and Christian group.

    Bang for the buck

Sierra College has a highly unreasonable tuition rate of $36 per unit. It gets worse. The tuition is expected to go up to $46 per unit. In addition, the book prices are outrageous. For my computer class, I bought a very small text book for $125, and for my Nutrition class I paid $220 for a small textbook that my teacher never cracked open.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I can not think of any unusual traditions for this school.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like to do a lot of online homework , and believe me the teachers do a lot of online homework.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a Christian club, environmental club, biking club (led by my math instructor), and much more.

    Campus Safety

There is very little trouble with crime at either of the colleges campus. The Sierra College Police keep things very safe, and are very conscientious about returning student's lost and found items.

A good transition school for any new student. Most teachers are knowledgeable and professional and friendly. Nice campus for its age.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in eager to learn, ready to take on a good amount of homework. Be respectful to teachers and others, this is not high school any more.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes are very good at teaching the curriculum. Each class seems to be about 3-4 hours of homework a week.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm, so I am not sure.

    Food and Dining

    Good choices. Some healthy choices.

    What to do for fun

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    no smoking on campus.

Great for these types of students

    new students, transferring students.

    Clubs and Activities

Coming back from a 20 year break, I was understandably worried, and the re-application process for UC Berkeley looked like a mess. I chose Sierra College to complete my lower division and could not be happier. They are friendly, organized, sharp, available, helpful and easy to work with.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a mentor; find someone who has looked into colleges, applied for financial aid, who remembers what it was like to have huge desire and not enough information, and ask for leadership and advice. If you spend your time in a bar, you'll end up in one.

    Clubs and Activities

Sierra college is a junior college, but does not lack in a higher education and it also has a beautiful campus. Any help needed to assist you in getting through the year from financial aid, classes counselling, medical, and admission are always readily, conveniently available.I have come across amazing, inspiring teachers while attending and would recommend this college and college in general to everyone, at any age to attend today!!

    Tips for prospective students

Check ratemyprofessors.com...it's always been accurate as far as the teachers teaching styles, abilities, easiness, personalities and overall class structure.

    Academic Rigor

Sierra College has been quite impressive to me when it comes to Academic Rigor. Although I hear so much in the media about how schools are lacking in so many ways, I have continued to see Sierra College continue to flourish and offer the very best to it's students. The teachers continue to challenge our thoughts, ideas, inspirations, and creativity. I have been amazed that some of these teachers are only teaching at Junior College level.

    Dorm Life

I have not experienced living in the dorms, but I hear that is a positive experience when hearing the opinions of other students. The College offers everything you need from on-site police assistance, medical, nutrition, and activities available for on campus residing students.

    Food and Dining

Although I stick to a coffee and at the most a muffin every once in awhile, the food in the cafeteria always looks and smells delicious. There is a variety of healthy food choices and well as not so healthy, yummy choices. There is quite a large variety of foods to choose from for every appetite.

    What to do for fun

Sierra college always has an art exhibit area to check out underneath the library hall. Not to mention there is always some type of play, film or speaker to see. Just recently The Vagina Monologues were brought to our school which was AMAZING! Not to mention these events are either extremely affordable or free. Lastly, there is almost always something going on in the courtyard to help educate, bring awareness, and even sometimes entertain us.

    Bang for the buck

The cost for school keeps going up and people continue to get quite heated over this. Although I wish it was less expensive of course, I also consider the fact that you spend the same amount on a three to four month class as you can going to dinner and movies in a month, or taking guitar lessons (for example) from an instructor for 30 minutes a day, once a week...for a month. I know because I have paid for guitar lessons. So, my point being, in my opinion I think the cost of school for a semester is really not so bad. Not to mention it's overall much more of a rewarding experience. I think if you do a little research on the teacher your going to take and of course the class, then it should indeed be well worth the money.

    Campus Safety

The campus is extremely safe. I always notice cop cars parked on and around the campus. Also, Rocklin where the college in located is a decent, safe area. It is in general a good location and I have never felt unsafe at any time at any place on campus while attending.

sierra is a campus that's a decent size, and has a wide variety of classes. most of the professors are great (you're bound to find a couple of duds) but the majority love what they do and it shows in the way they teach, and the passion they have for what they're doing. the biggest downfall to sierra i that they are extremely crowded and the fight for classes is unreal!

    Tips for prospective students

my best advice take a class any class just so you can start moving up in priority registration, and pray you dot spend too much money on classes you don't really need!!

    Academic Rigor

Sierra College is a great school if you are Internet savvy. Most of the teachers are well qualified and some are excellent. I highly recommend this community college.

    Tips for prospective students

Know your way around the sierra college website, especially if you are taking an online course. It will really help you be more efficient if you know where everything is. Do not expect the sierra college bookstore to ever buy back your books.

    Academic Rigor

Your teachers really determine the work load. Try to get teachers that you have heard good things about from friends or family if you can. There can be a lot of homework.

    Dorm Life

Never lived in one, does not apply.

    Food and Dining

Therre are alot of vending machines and good cafe and cafeteria food that is reasonably priced

    What to do for fun

There are quite a few clubs to join and games to go too. It is important to check the school website for dates.

Sierra College is multiculture, and there are so many international students here, we meet new people from around the world all the time. The councilors here really take interest in the students and go above and beyond what is required of them! Lastly, The campus is absolutely beautiful for being a community college!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for fafsa, and ask your councilor if your may qualify for EOPS, CARE, or Trio. Also if you are of black or hispanic heritage join the Emoja or Puente Program! Lastly Join clubs!!! This is the best way to meet people and keep you sane throughout each semester.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken are challenging but also engaging. There are some weeks that are very tough and then others that are tough, but relieving and a bit more fun.

    Dorm Life

There are actually dorms at this community college so already thats a huge plus. I know many students in the dorms and they seem to really enjoy it. Only downfall is there is VERY limited space and hard to get into.

    Food and Dining

Food is averagely good. However we only have a small cafeteria and a coffee shop, wish there was more variety!!

    What to do for fun

In school they have many activities going on all the time. Sometimes there are games in the quad, or barbque fundraisers. Also they have coffee shop nights where they have live music from students of sierra college and there are lots of people who attend and everyones very nice and inviting. Outside of school we have the mountains and wilderness to hike in, camp, throw a bonfire party, and the best part is Folsom Lake!

    Bang for the buck

Not too sure what this phrase exactly means...

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a pond on campus that use to be a total dump, but just last summer (2011) the redesigned it with a water fall, water spout, and beautiful greenery and boulders. It also has a paddle boat!

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for almost any student. There are so many different people and things going on everyday. I once heard someone say on campus, I love this school they have a club for everything. This is wonderful because there is a wide variety in interests and everyone can find something they really like and you can meet people with your same interests obviously.

    Clubs and Activities

Well if you read the above comments this is my favorite thing about Sierra. There is a club for everything! ...and ANYONE. As for activities thereare different things going on everyday. Games, Music, Speeches, Guest Speakers, plays, concerts, Real food fundraisers, etc.. Also each month there is at least one awareness week on some topic and for the most part many people attend and participate.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life here :(...Unless phi theta kappa counts! (honors society just in case i got there name wrong...)

    Campus Safety

Recently they have made it very well known that any student can ask a security guard to escort them to their cars, this is especially encouraged for night students. However, since I have been here there have been no need for Safety Enforcement.

    Am learning a lot

I'm international Student, and I've just been here, the U.S, for about one year. Sierra College is the 1st college I've attended since coming here, and it does give me a lot of good feelings. I'm very happy that I chose the right college to study...

    Am enjoying being here

I have many friends, and I'm also able to join many outside activities that really interest me here in Sierra College. Although I've just been here for only a year, my college showed me really much about how different between the two educational systems of my country and the U.S. It makes me feel like going to school more than when I was in my country...I love my college.

    Tips for prospective students

Sierra College is good, especially with International Students. They have an awesome service for students in general and for International Students individually...High recommend for my College !

Great for these types of students

International Students, who are new to the U.S !

    Tips for prospective students

Try to register as fast as possible, its so worth it!

    Am learning a lot

I am actually quite impressed by the level of education I have been receiving at the NCC campus up in Grass Valley. I'm very glad I stayed back home to finish up my GE.

    Am enjoying being here

As much as I like being in my hometown, I'm not very excited to being attending school here anymore. I am ready to move after two years.

    Bang for the buck

I really can't complain about how inexpensive and how well of an education I'm receiving. I highly recommend anyone to attend a two year institution first before they move on to a university.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't buy your books from the Sierra College bookstore. You can find all your books online and for a much cheaper price.

Great for these types of students

Sierra College is great for someone who wants to take their time to take classes due to work or family related issues.

    Did learn a lot

Sierra College taught me a lot. One of them knowing that to be a successful you can't depend on your teachers always having your best interest at heart. It also taught me that it is possible to have fun while still learning. Sierra College had its ups and downs as every community college does, but I learned a lot from it.

    Did enjoy being here

In some instances, I did enjoy being there, but surrounded by students that really don't care for grades and are only there so they don't have to work did begin to grate on me. The campuses are beautiful and the tutor center was the best I've ever seen it. Some classes left a lot to be desired, but others, especially the science classes and Human Geography class were so awesome I did not want to stop.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Sierra College is a great spring board. It helps you get focused, begin your career without paying the big bucks, and can give you much needed contacts for future jobs or colleges. Not a place to go and stay for the rest of your academic career.

    Tips for prospective students

-Go to the student/tutor center. The people there are more than willing and capable of helping out with any question you may have.
-Do the leg work, don't expect your teacher to always have your best interest at heart and don't depend on the councilors to know everything.
-And most importantly, never give up. Your grades are important and very worth the hard work. Never EVER let a teacher try to scare you away by the work load. You deserve to be the best you can be and don't let anyone tell you differently.
