    Am learning a lot

I learned a lot while being here at South Texas College. Unfortunately I did not pass my first classes. I am looking to go back but have not found the monetary means to go back. I am hoping to get some sort of scholarship to help me out.

    Tips for prospective students

Its a great school with small class sizes... what else could you ask for in a college?

    Am learning a lot

The instructors here are always eager to help students out in any way possible within reason. They target subjects well and utilize many different resources from textbooks to web sites.

    Am enjoying being here

There are friendly student clubs and plenty fun activities that take place throughout the semester. The student activities center always goes out of their way to bring a fun atmosphere out in between classes with games, music, and free food.

    Bang for the buck

The average cost for classes is affordable as well as cost of supplies and textbooks. There are always students willing to help with book purchasing such as reselling books. The cafeteria on campus provides good food at a good costs and the student services available through tuition costs are a big help and definitely worth the price.

    Tips for prospective students

Utilize the tutoring center as well as the computer labs and study rooms. All of these services are covered by tuition and free to the students. They are a big help and available at any time throughout the semester but are constantly overlooked by students.

South Texas College is a very friendly college. Tuition is affordable, and faculty in the Financial Aid office are really helpful in assisting you. STC is close to home, and I don't have to miss out on important family dates.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend this college, make sure to attend class each day, and keep track of your grades. Make sure to hold all graded assignments, because some teachers forget to write that grade in their grade book. Also a BIG recommendation is to sit as close to the front as possible, because you'll hear important due dates and the professor is more willing to know you and help you out.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms offered at South Texas College, but the commute to this college is relatively close. It's close to home anyways, so you don't really need a dorm.

    Food and Dining

Depends, not much to do around here depending which campus you attend. Pecan campus has more variety of food and dining if you don't mind driving around town.

    What to do for fun

What you can do for fun is go to any activites STC is holding. Other than that pretty much all you can do is go shopping, to the movies, or any party around that you may be interested in.

I am a good student and in these past 2 semesters I've learned a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

It is fun you meet new people from all over Texas (the valley) and many other states. The student life organization does a lot of activities where you can meet a lot of other students and have fun.

    Bang for the buck

We get more from education for less. There are great professors you can find at a university for less money. I love that the class sizes are small and the teachers know you on a first name basis.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in check for your financial aid status just in case.

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of students you can receive college credit while in high school or even get in programs you can apply to while in high school that by the time you graduate you already have an associates degree before you get your high school diploma.

STC is a great college to start your higher education. The teacher to student ratio is perfect. The campus is feels friendlly and comfortable. It would help if teachers with accents would speak clearer.

    Tips for prospective students

There is help for any problem you may have, you just have to ask. Doing homework in college will benefit you. Do not blow off going to a community college, it just might be exactly what your looking for.

    Academic Rigor

Some people might say STC is not hard at all, but it depends on you. If you would like more challenging classes there are many to choose from.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms at this college.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has extended its hours, which is nice. If you have classes after five you are stuck buying junk food from the vending machines, unless you bring your own food. The food is good, but a little over priced.

Great for these types of students

STC is great for all types of people. If you have been out of school for a while or fresh out of high school, this college will benefit you.

    Clubs and Activities

At STC many clubs are available for you to join. Maybe you do not want to commit to a specific club, you can still attend the clubs monthly speakers and activities. I recommend joining the student leadership academy. I really enjoyed it and met a lot of new people.

    Campus Safety

You see security on every side of the campus. On the campus a state trooper is always on duty also. If you have to take classes at night there is no fear because the parking lots are well lit.

    Academic Rigor

    Dorm Life

South Texas College doesn't have any dorms for students to live at. Despite not having dorms the location of the college is very close to home which makes it a great college.

South Texas College is very resourceful as far as thier computer labs go. They are very clean and the staff is quite nice and the students activities that go on here are exciting. South Texas College has a lot of fun clubs to join, there is something for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for students, is to turn your assignments in on time or before hand, if not you will fall behind, and get stuck with a bad reputation for the class. And partners will not want to team up with you. Participate in class so your professor can see that you are making the effort, and introduce yourself in class when your first response is presented in class, this is so your professor knows who you are and recognizes your class participation. That seems to be very important to the professors here at South Texas College.

    Academic Rigor

Academics here are challenging and the English departments does assign alot of research papers so get ready to research your topics. The government classes are intense and very intellectual and smart so know your government. History is rich and covers all aspects of the century starting from the 1800's. It is a very enriching topic. The professors love to teach when it comes to the history department. The academic rigor is very passionate.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms near here. But I have seen students crossing the street to get to class and they look happy to live as close as they do. They are always on time, I'd assume.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is pretty ordinary, they do have tasty food, but not too healthy conscience. They do have vegetables, yet not flavored, they do offer alot of food so if your hungry except the prices are not too great. A bottle of a drink can cost about 3-4 dollars and the food isn't too affordable. I suggest you bring your own lunch or come with breakfast in your tummy.

    What to do for fun

There is a great variety of clubs to join, from Student Government, the Media Club, Student Leardership Academy, and Communications Club. This is aweome to get students engaged. Another thing are STC's bulletin boards, students always post events, such as music shows, art gallerys, festival events, etc, so that's also something fun to do is to find something fun to do that weekend.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is the most affordable here at STC, and if you get financial aid help even better! Althouigh the lunch here is expensive, but the vending machines are affordable. But this school is great and worth the tuition, it is affordable.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Traditions, well it is called South Texas College, we are located in the Rio Grande Valley and most of the people down here are Hispanic and/or Latino, Mexican American. Although, there is a variety of Black and White students, some of the traditons we have are Mexican music playing during student acivities, and folklorico dancers and a Mexican dance team. We do have a smoking section that should be moved, but that's about as unusual as it gets. Everyone is really nice on campus.

Great for these types of students

Studying is great for the type of students that love to study and be alone, there are study rooms all over the campus that is readily available. Yet, for this a great place to study would be the Rainbow room above the library, that will help you out get your crunching study time down.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a big variety of clubs at South Texas College, but from the top of my head these are the ones I can think of. Student Government Club, Media Club, VAM Club (Visual Arts Music) W.I.L.D Club (Writer's in Literary Discussion) Communications Club, Buisness Club, Music DJ mixing Club, Entreprenure Club.

    Greek Life

As far as at the moment South Texas College does not have a Greek Life on campus. UTPA in the other city in Edinburg, TX does have greek life.

    Campus Safety

There are always STC safety patrols, although no police officers on campus, there should be. The patrols are usually on bikes, walking, or standing in certain locations on campus. There should also be servalliance bu ther is not on campus, well at least from what I know of, because I have not seen any cameras. There should be

    Academic Rigor

Classes are small, so you are able to get things cleared up if you do not understand something. Professors take the time to explain things, and will take time out of class to help students.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus since it is so close to where many students live.

    Food and Dining

There is a small dining area where you can meet up with friends and enjoy a variety of food. Everyday they have a different meal, along with snacks if you are not too hungry.

    Am learning a lot

I am currently a high school student and is taking night classes at the local community college, in order to learn as much as possible before I enter a four year University. This whole experience has been stressful but life changing as well. At times it can be overwhelming with the amount of double work I am dealt with, but at the end of the day I know I am only benefiting myself, If I want to prosper in life. This school is preparing me a great deal with the whole college process. I know what I'll face in the near future with a University because I am dealing with so much as it is. But I am only looking forward and enjoying the steps I take.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying this whole process because it is making my the process easier of what University I'd eventually like to attend. Before I enrolled in classes I didn't know who I was, or what I wanted to do with my life after high-school. But, after taking these steps I somewhat feel like I'm a young adult. I make choices everyday that will affect me for my upcoming educational years. Being enrolled in an actual college make in high school was the best decision I could ever made.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice would be take as many college courses you can in high school. You may not know who you are or what you may want to do, but after experiencing something, you learn what's nothing to you. It lets you grow as a person and personally for me helped me strive for something. I enrolled in as a History major but leaving the institution seeking to be a communication major. It made me realize there is other options and should choose wisely.
