    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the all-women part scare you away from this excellent school!

    Am learning a lot

The things I learn in class, I can connect to my outside life. I took a history class last year and to help me study for the final, I watched Pearl Harbor at home and made connections! It was a fun way to help me study! Believe it or not, I also make chemistry connections to things in my everyday life!

    Am enjoying being here

St. Kates is a very student involved campus. There are many fun events planned during the year including movies and musical performances. The end of the year culminates with a celebration called Dew Drop Bop which includes games, music, food and a ton of fun! There is also a wide variety of student groups to participate in.

    Bang for the buck

People are often scared away by the price of St Kates, as it is a private school, but I really feel like it will help me in the long run. The professors are very open to helping you inside and outside of class and making sure you understand the materials. Campus security does a fabulous job of making you feel safe by patroling and financial aid does a great job of helping you find a way to pay for school.

    Tips for prospective students

DON'T let the private school tuition price and the all-girls mantra scare you away. Private schools often have more financial aid to give and the financial aid office is good with helping you as well. I find, that going to an all-girls school helps me to be more confident and speak up in class. Plus, you can always take a class at one of the ACTC schools: St. Thomas, Augsburg, Hamline, Macalester or the Minneaplis Campus!
BE involved! There is so much to do on campus, you're bound to find something you like. Participate in things and make new friends and you will have a good time!

Great for these types of students

People willing to learn, people wanting a diverse campus, people of all personalities, people wanting a FABULOUS college experience!

The great thing about St. Kate's is the variety of learning styles they incorporate. The location of the school makes for great experiences learning in the community.

    Am enjoying being here

St. Kate's has a great campus life. The dorm life is a great balance of social and academic life. The food service always has a good variety. There are student activities throughout the week and on weekends that are entertaining. Most of their activities include free food and prizes given for just showing up! Everyone is very open-minded to others' personalities and beliefs and I've never felt put down because of my viewpoints on any issue. Everyone is open about opinions.

    Bang for the buck

Though the tuition seems outrageous, financial aid is easily attainable. No matter what your financial situation is, try for it, you may be surprised how generous the college is. The professors are very knowledgeable and approachable. Also, resources for tutoring, counseling, financial counseling and other issues are worth the price of the school, especially for that first year of adjustment. The food is delicious, but quite overpriced.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the all-women aspect of the college intimidate you. When I first visited I didn't think this school was an option, but once I went to the visit program I found myself fitting in here and I never dreamed of participating in single-gender education. I now find myself advocating for it because the benefits of being open and honest in my class discussions are no longer hindered by wondering what guys will think about me.

Great for these types of students

Those seeking a safe, highly acclaimed rigorous academic program, a good social life, and those seeking to expand their viewpoints and horizons.

St. Catherine University will change the way you think. It challenges women (and men) to lead and influence. My life has changed because of this dynamic university!

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a party school, St. Kate's is not it, but there are tons of things to do in the area and the Twin Cities. There is a great, safe, and comfortable small community feel to the campus. Going to an all-women's college threw me off a bit at first, but you will be amazed at how much more you learn simply by talking to other women.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are pretty nice, especially the new suites (Rauenhorst and Morrison). There is a low-key, quiet vibe to the campus which is relaxing, but there is always stuff going on on-campus and in the community.

    Food and Dining

Not much to say, other than it could have more options.

    What to do for fun

St. Kate's is in the heart of the Twin Cities! Downtown St. Paul is about a 5 minute drive down Randolph Avenue; Minneapolis is a few minutes away via 94. Parks, food, bars, concerts, theater, and way way more.

    Greek Life

There is one sorority on campus, Lambda Sigma Tau. They are a social-service sorority working within the Twin Cities. Close ties to Theta Chi and Delta Tau at Hamline University and Sigma Chi at University of St. Thomas.

    Campus Safety

Public Safety (campus security) may seem overbearing at times, but they do a great job of keeping the campus safe for students. St. Kate's is definitely a safe space.

    Am learning a lot

I learned so much about myself here at Saint Kates, not only that, but I learned a lot about my critical thinking skills and how to improve on it. When I first started my fall here, we were given classes that helped us gained a better understanding about our own skills and how to improve them for college level. We also were given a course that has helped us engaged in class, embrace diversity and learn about the history of women here at Saint Kates. At first I thought that an all girls school was not my taste, but after spending a semester here, I have come to respect it.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here! Everyone is so nice and the staff are really wonderful. The teachers actually want to teach each and every student here. They are willing to spare their time to help the students understand, whether homework or other materials. I also love it here because everyone knows everyone. I especially love the clubs here because when you get involved, people start to know you more. Even if you are shy, there are people here who understand, so you can take your time to warm up. I also love it here because there are no boys to bother your studies and etc. I love how this school has an ACTC bus that takes students to different nearby colleges. This is where you can take different classes from other nearby colleges.

    Bang for the buck

I love the Financial Aid here. Everyone is willing to help make college affordable because they are willing to sit down and talk with you and your parents about the cost and tuition here and how to pay for college

Great for these types of students

If you are a student who loves meeting new people, learn about different cultures and challenge yourself then this is the right place for you! Also, Saint Kates has a good nursing program, but it is really hard to get into it. Just work hard and believe in yourself!

The professors are wonderful. The class sizes are small which makes it easier to interact with the professors. The professors are always available and willing to see you whenever you need help.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. St. Kate is the only campus in the Twin Cities that has a pond. The students are very nice and everyone is very welcoming. The campus is located in the metro area which makes it easier to go shopping or go somewhere to hang out. The Mall of America is just a bus ride away. One of the biggest plus is that St. Kate's is an all women university and with guys it is a lot easier to express yourself.

    Bang for the buck

St. Kate's has wonder financial aid counselors and they are there to help you. St. Kate's offer many different scholarships to their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Go check out the Highland area; there are great restaurants and stores there. There is also Grand Ave. where Tea Garden is located (best bubble tea ever).

St. Catherine University does not care about their students unless you are a nursing. They are overconfident about their quality of education. St. Kate's is unfair when it comes to financial aid.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many outside scholarships as possible and expect a large increase in tuition each year.

    Academic Rigor

I chose a private school because I thought it would be more challenging than a public one. I was wrong. After my first semester of my freshman year I stopped buying my textbooks are just wrote notes in class. I got A's.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at St. Kate's is thoroughly community driven. How close you and your floor mates are depends on your Resident Adviser. Good is good, bad is bad.
The showers are not as dismal as one would assume but they are not fantastic either. The laundry is fairly priced and environmentally friendly.

    Food and Dining

The food is good but can get expensive. The dining area is a bit far from upperclass(wo)men dorms.

    What to do for fun

There are movie nights every two weeks with free popcorn. There are also many events with free food throughout the semester. On the weekends, get off campus and go into Highland. It is well worth the walk.

    Bang for the buck

Too expensive for a dismal education unless you are a Nursing Major. Well worth it for Nursing.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the winter students go sledding down Dew Drop Hill on cafeteria trays.

Students are constantly searching for the underground tunnel entrance.

There is a full size Olympic swimming pool in one of the classroom buildings.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs and activities mostly focusing on sports.

    Greek Life

    One sorority on campus.

    Campus Safety

Can be either good or bad depending on who is on duty.

    Tips for prospective students

my advice to prospective students is that its never too late for anything and if you want to achieve what ever you want it can happen. it just takes hard work and motivation to keep going once you start school.although st. kates is a private school that is expensive but if you really want to continue here you will find ways.

    Academic Rigor

my toughest class was psychology in the first semester. it was challenging because i had test anxieties. although, i understood the material very well when it came to testing i blanked out. but thanks to my tutor i got over that and achieved a passing grade. i don't find most classes challenging it's just a lot of work and keeping up with the work.

    Dorm Life

the advantages of living in a college dorm is i don’t have to drive to all the college activities, as well as from home. also, i don’t have to drive to class everyday. i don’t have to deal with paying rent or mom and dad. i have my own room here at st. catherine university and it is an amazing experience.

you also have more opportunities to look around a new community and see what the town has to offer. some colleges may offer dorm students an advance over the other college students on tickets and drawings, and how they can get special school activities designed just for them.

    Food and Dining

at first i had problems with getting food so every week i went to my moms house to bring back left overs. dorm life was too expensive for and as for the food there was not a lot to choose from. i go out to eat with my friends sometimes. every time there is a free food activity at my school i was the first one there.

    What to do for fun

i really don't have time to go party like all my roommates, because i go to school full time and also work on the weekends but when i do have the time i go out to eat or just take long walks.

st. catherine university has nurtured my personal, social, and professional development, inspired and challenged me intellectually, and given me the freedom, strength, and skills to claim my education and my future.

    Tips for prospective students

participate in a tour or overnight stay to get a feel for the atmosphere yourself.
take a look at the major fields of study. once you narrow it down a bit, read the course descriptions to see if you would like it.

    Academic Rigor

i wouldn't dare text in class - it's too interesting, and i'd be afraid to miss something! we're all focused on complete understanding and the bigger picture. some professors are not so demanding, but for others you will work your tail off.

    Dorm Life

i have never lived in a dorm.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining services are average. although there is a great variety, food nearly 24/7, and the food is often delicious, it is really really expensive. fortunately, events often have free food (and lots of it), and there are dozens of fantastic restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.

    What to do for fun

it's in the twin cities! so there is a lot going on off campus, as well as club events and events at other associated colleges of the twin cities (actc) schools. personally, i am in 5 clubs, and never have a dull moment.

    Bang for the buck

yeah, it's pricey, but wow! they have fantastic financial aid. your investment will really pay off. with individual attention and coaching from professors and administrators, as well as invitations to twin cities private college symposiums, job fairs, and other events.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

i am so proud to attend a university that was started by the sisters of st. joseph. it was estimated that in the last 150 years, their kindness has in some way benefitted the lives of 3/4 of families in minnesota.

    Clubs and Activities

the multiple (perhaps too many?) student clubs and organizations are active in on campus as well as in the community. there's something going on every day of the week, and there are ample opportunities for leadership development, fun, socializing, and community service.

    Greek Life

not very easy to find your place at this school right away. the schools program to integrate incoming freshman into the community is very weak and many girls on my floor have already transferred or dropped out of this school. not your typical catholic college experience: unique classes, very liberal, all girls, little catholic influence, yet very loving and helpful professors!

    Tips for prospective students

by going to this school you will be saving tons of money, however, you must be prepared to give up many other areas of the college experience to go here. be outgoing, this college will not help you find your place so you have no choice but to put yourself out there and find friends. get to know your professors, your paying to have a one on one relationship with them at this school.

    Academic Rigor

the generals have been nothing harder then i had taken in honors high school courses. ap and cis classes from high school you will find much harder then many of the classes at this school. the only class i found myself having to wonder and work for a grade was art. college art classes are not like high school classes, you no longer get graded on effort!

    Dorm Life

the dorms are very lifeless. ra's are required to host events (usually a craft... yes it is an all girls college), however, these are more to meet their event quota, last about 30min, and are not really social events where you have fun with your floor. i only know about half of the girls who live on my floor of 40 and doors almost always remain shut.

    Food and Dining

the food is great if you are a vegetarian or vegan! for others it can get very old, very quick. the same rotation of meals is followed throughout the semester and the food is very expensive. first years are required to buy the most expensive plan and most of the girls ended with around $400 left unused (this in nonrefundable) because they were tired of the meals served.

    What to do for fun

the highland area around the campus is very fun! however, if you do not have a car on campus (first years) it can be hard to find places to go. the school does have a great work out facility with a nice weight room, pool, and hot tub. they also offer classes throughout the week such as zumba and yoga as well that you won't want to miss.

    Bang for the buck

if you plan things right, by going to this school you will be saving tons of money! most girls graduate with about half as many loans as compared to what they would have at other private schools. many even graduate with no loans at all! with that being said however, you do compromise many areas of social life to save money by going to this school.

    strongly liberal women, feminists

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are awesome, and it feels like they care a lot more about their students versus other schools. Class sizes are usually around 30 students, so its easier to get help.

    Am enjoying being here

Its a small, beautiful campus! Lots of places to study, and everyone is so nice.

    Bang for the buck

An expensive college- but they offer a ton of financial aid, and charge small late fees.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not let the cost of attendance scare you away! This college offers a ton of financial aid and grants. Just to be sure to have all of your financial information in by their deadlines to ensure you will get all the aid you can.
Also, it is an all womens school (basically). This is one of my biggest negatives when I was considering this school. But actually, it turned out to be a positive. I have found that learning in an all women environment causes classroom discussions to go further and be more open versus a class with men. Many students I have spoken with feel the same way.

Great for these types of students

Student parents, Part-time/Weekend students, students who learn best in discussion-based classes, QGLBT students, students of different ethnicities and backgrounds, students who want to study abroad. Also great for students who want to start their major right away versus just getting generals done.

St. Catherine University is a great place to learn, there are many majors to choose from and many classes to just take for fun as well. The class sizes are pretty small, so the teachers actually knows you at a more personal level and love to help you.

    Am enjoying being here

    Bang for the buck

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry about the whole all-girls thing, I was a little bit but it really isnt that bad and you can take classes at other surrounding schools through the ACTC program.

Great for these types of students

Smart, driven, motivated, critical thinkers, healthcare majors
