    Am learning a lot

The teachers do an awesome job with their lesson plans. I like how my recreation's teacher, Mrs. Herder, would also talk to us one on one.

    Am enjoying being here

I am so relaxed attending this college, it feels like its not so much like an institution here.

    Bang for the buck

    The classes are fairly affordable.

    Tips for prospective students

Buy your books online or from each other. Its the best way to save money, and waste.

Great for these types of students

Freshmen, if your worried about the transition to College, the not knowing anyone, Taft College is perfect for you. Everyone is so nice here, new comers will feel right at home.

This school prepares you for a four year college. The teachers are excellent and spend extra time to teach information you didn't understand. The school becomes more like a home than an actual school, the friendly environment, all sports athletes become close and most importantly the staff provide lots of supports towards the students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to succeed, you need to be focused and determined that you want to do be someone in life. Your mind has to be in it all the way or else it doesn't make college worthwhile, because getting good grades is one of the best feelings a student could have.

    Academic Rigor

Most teachers that I've had at Taft college teach you beyond the lectures they don't want you to memorize but to actually learn the subjects.

    Dorm Life

Mostly athletes stay in the dorms, but they are all content in the living condition. They all become like family because of the small environment and makes them more comfortable around each other.

    Food and Dining

Every restaurant is walking distance, so it makes it easier for student to survive without a car.

    What to do for fun

If your an athlete, than our sport is what we do for fun and there is also a recreation area, where people can go workout, play soccer, basketball, racket ball, yoga, join outdoor sports and also there is bowling.

The town is terrible but the school is good. Classes are small and easy to get, no crazy waitlists. Many people in the Bakersfield area choose to commute to Taft for school because college in Bakersfield is so overcrowded, and it's worth the gas money to just go someplace else!

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Start early-- fill out your financial aid papers WAY ahead of time & register for classes as soon as registration opens

    2. Don't buy your books at the college bookstore. Even the used ones are way too expensive. Shop Amazon.com for books, just check and double check that the book you're buying is the right edition number

    3. Make it a habit to keep a planner so you can stay on top of your homework assignments, and don't procrastinate on doing papers and reading. Also, DO EVERY SINGLE ASSIGNMENT! Even if you don't do that great, a C or a D on an assignment is better than not turning it in.

    4. Always participate in class discussions, even if you say something completely stupid. Teachers often factor your participation into your grade.

    5. If you have a long class and the teacher gives you a break a halfway through, don't just leave. Teachers often will give an assignment or something the second half of class, just to make sure you don't skip out after the break.

    6. Don't knock down online classes. A lot of people at Taft College are commuters from 40-50 miles away, and even doing one class online will save you a bunch in gas money. However, with classes online, you have to be disciplined enough to stay on top of the assignments. Just a tip, knock out your easy classes online, like easy math, music/art appreciation, health, etc. Don't try to do advanced physics or some other complicated subject in an online class, because you're basically on your own. Sure, you can email your teacher, but it's easier to do your hard classes in person, where you can listen to leactures and ask questions.

    Academic Rigor

If you survived high school classes, you'll do fine. Though, of course, some classes are harder than others.

    Dorm Life

Lots of parties and unprotected sex. Hardly any of the rules are enforced. It's probably cheaper than renting an apartment, considering meal plan is included, but EVERYONE gets a roommate, no single rooms PERIOD.

    Food and Dining

It'll keep you alive. That's about it.

    What to do for fun

    In Taft? Are you serious?

Activities to do in Taft: Go to church, shoot heroin, play with stray dogs... or better yet, leave town and go someplace that doesn't completely suck. Taft is REALLY close to two major freeways, so there you go.

    Bang for the buck

Very affordable when compared to a 4 year university, even the dorms.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Nothing really.

Great for these types of students

White, Christian, middle class? Students who don't really want to go to school but their parents said to go to class or move out?

    Campus Safety

For the most part it's pretty safe, but just like anywhere else, be cautious at night.
