Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Texas A&M University at Galveston is the best college to attend if you have interest in a maritime field. The majors are all centered on the ocean and you become immersed in the sea culture of the campus. Whether you are studying marine biology, maritime engineering, or nautical archaeology, the professors are experts in their fields and are excited to pass their knowledge on to the students.
Am enjoying being here An Aggie campus is the best place to be. We are one big, loud, proud, and caring family. Though our campus is very small, about the size of a AAA high school, we get the benefits of the main Texas A&M Campus. We have our own Midnight Yells and we attend Aggie football games. We participate in all of the Aggie traditions and have a few of our own as well. In Fall 2008, my freshman year, we had Hurricane Ike and they transfered the entire student body to College Station and made sure we still were able to get the quality education we received here at home. It was Aggies helping Aggies. Is there anything better than that?
Bang for the buck Because we have such a small student body, we are able to take advantage of much smaller classes. There are extracurriculars for everyone. The job placement rate for graduating Sea Aggies has been very high in the past because of the much more specialized degree tracks. Students graduate with the same diploma they receive in College Station and we also get the Aggie ring. And the best part is that we pay much less than the students at the main campus do. The education and benefits here are definitely good investments.
Great for these types of students Anyone interested in the ocean should apply here.
Also, everyone who wants to be an Aggie should apply here as well. If money or grades are an issue, it is very easy to transfer to College Station at the end of the year as long as a 2.5 GPA is maintained.
Our NROTC and Texas Maritime Academy are very good and if someone is interested in maritime transportation or the navy, they should check them out.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes here on campus are amazing. The class sizes are small and personable, so you know your professor and they know you.
Am enjoying being here Campus can be great. It is small enough to get around campus in less than 15 mins, no matter where you are coming from and going to. The biggest downside to this school is how small the campus is in relative to the number of students here. The students here can be great, although everyone knows everything about everyone else, EVERYTHING!
Bang for the buck The school really inexpensive in regard to the experience you get here. It is worth every dime you pay. No doubts about that.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you know, without a doubt, that this is what you want to do. I love going to school here, but if you arnt 110% positive that this is what you want to do, you will get stuck here with nothing to study, wasting your time and money.
Great for these types of students Social Butterflies to quiet types, that get alone well when the majority of the other students are guys, and dont mind not always being the center of attention will all thrive here!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Because the student body is so small, everything we get to do is incredibly hands on. One of our mottos is our classroom is the ocean and it's incredibly true since all majors are related to maritime studies, its perfect to have the ocean as your back door.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the small school enviornment, and the chill Island ambiance that all of Galveston seems to have. The people are great, and no matter how bored you get, you can always go out and find something to do.
Bang for the buck This is probably one of the most inexpensive schools compared to every other four year university I've looked at. It can still be hard depending on your financial situation, but this is a school that is willing to work with your needs.
Great for these types of students For anyone wanting to do anything related to ocean work, also good for people wanting to go to graduate school in a medical field, seeing as how the strong science curriculum at this school, will help you meet almost all of your requirements.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love the small school atmosphere. Hated when the school year was over. Can't wait for the fall to come.
Tips for prospective students Lots of mosquito spray. Go to Salt Camp (freshman or transfer camp), it's designed so you meet people. The friends I made there are now life long friends. Don't miss it for anything!!
Academic Rigor Some teachers are easier than others. But there is no easy A. Easier teachers you learn but it a more exciting atmosphere.
Dorm Life I loved living in a dorm. It's a must for two first years. The new dorms open fall of 2012. You are close to campus and you don't have to deal with the pain in the butt bridge.
Food and Dining New cafeteria, nice amazing workers, food average.
What to do for fun Lots of student activities. Join clubs. And of course there is the beach and the strand minutes away.
Bang for the buck Not as expensive as the main campus, but you end up with the same degree afterwards. Galveston is not a satellite of College Station it's one of the only two branches of Cstat.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Midnight Breakfast- Day before finals start breakfast is served for free to please those midnight cravings. Only tradition at Galveston
Same traditions as the main campus like E-walk, Big event, Silver Taps, and many more.Great for these types of students If you are going to look at the campus go during school semester. Think about doing sea camp. It's a way for you to meet some students and see the campus.
Clubs and Activities Animal Husbandry is the best! Also the fine arts association!!
Greek Life No Greek life.
Campus Safety Only one way on and off the island. So not many problems arise.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Small school so it has great teachers that are willing to work with you. Classes are relatively small. The resources are wonderful because you have access to college stations libraries and we are a sister school to A&M so you get the Aggie Ring!
Tips for prospective students This school can be used as a back door into A&M College Station. Prices are less here too and the classes are much smaller.
Academic Rigor Marine Biology classes can be hard and you can expect no higher than a B in a couple teachers, but they are so worth it.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is currently changing. We are adding new dorms, the cafeteria has been renovated, and we are going to revamp one of the current dorms next semester. I haven't lived on campus in 2 years, but it seems to be getting better.
Food and Dining Cafeteria food is for the most part okay. We have pizza daily, as well as burgers. There is always a vegetarian option as well.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun in Galveston. Pelican Island is literally less than 10 minutes from the Strand and about 20 from Moody Gardens. There is a pool on campus as well as a volley ball court. We also have a very active intramural sports program.
Bang for the buck The school price is going up due to many factors, such as the renovations, but overall it is cheaper than going to most state schools and much cheaper than the private colleges. You get the private college size for the state school price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have several traditions on campus, most of them shared with A&M College Station.
Great for these types of students Great for a dedicated Student who wants to learn about Marine Sciences.
Clubs and Activities We have relatively a lot of clubs for many interests.
Greek Life No Greek Life. Only two Greek Clubs.
Campus Safety We have a very active Police Department.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas a&m at galveston is one of the foremost research institutions in marine science and engineering. professors here are among the best in their respective fields, and the ratio of students to professors is small. the university also supports the texas maritime academy, the only maritime academy in the gulf region.
Tips for prospective students utilize the free tutoring and supplemental instruction sessions as much as needed. keep several bottles of bug repellant on hand.
Academic Rigor professors in upper level classes are the best in their fields. classes are usually small, the professors know students by name, and they expect academic excellence.
Dorm Life with two brand new residence halls opening fall 2012, the campus is quickly expanding. community leaders (ras) attempt to build communities in their hallways and plan activities for residents.
Food and Dining while it is cafeteria food, the dining facility is brand new, and the food is not half bad.
What to do for fun the campus has intramural sports, a sand volleyball pit, an in-ground 25 meter pool, and a media pit. on the island, the beach is always an option. close by attractions to campus include moody gardens, kemah, and laser tag.
Bang for the buck texas a&m at galveston's students are extremely spoiled when it comes to the cost of tuition, fees, and costs of living. the financial staff does their utmost to keep costs as low as possible.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus it's texas a&m. we have many of the same traditions as main campus plus a few of our own. there isn't really a way to explain it on paper. you just have to experience it for yourself. whoop!
Great for these types of students students who want a small campus environment, close bonds with fellow students, and the ability to have personal working relationships with faculty members
Clubs and Activities humans versus zombies, video game tournaments, sisterhood of university leaders, honors association, animal husbandry, scuba, solace (christian organization), catholic sea aggies, social dance club, student government
Campus Safety campus police is on site around the clock.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it is a small friendly campus with good maritime and marine based majors. it is less well known than the main campus in college station, but seems better to me because of the small class sizes and ease of having one on one with professors. the only downside is that there are a lot of mosquitoes.
Tips for prospective students be prepared for interesting chemistry and math professors if those are in your curriculum, and if you're in marine biology be prepared to do a lot of work for the classes.
Dorm Life most of the dorms are great except for the minor air conditioning and water problems throughout each semester.
Food and Dining food isn't too bad, but i would suggest being prepared to not want what they serve at the cafeteria every day.
What to do for fun clubs and organizations
fishing
go to the beachShare any unusual traditions or locations on campus senior hill beside the gym
Great for these types of students students that enjoy hands on learning and being near water or boats
Clubs and Activities humans v. zombies each semester and a lot of organizations to join.
if there is an organization you think we're missing, you can probably start it up.Greek Life i've seen maybe one or two, so not much
Campus Safety isolated incidents throughout semesters
