Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I really depends on how much your teacher knows. Sometimes they tended to ramble on about anything dealing with their personal lives.
Did enjoy being here It would have been better if there was more places to sit and more study groups going on
Bang for the buck Not a bad price for a community college

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I had dreams of going to a giant college. In my senior year I destroyed my chances by failing math. I was devastated. TMCC was really my only option. My first day I walked in with the attitude of pessimism and negativism. I was so so surprised by the calibre of the teachers and the atmosphere of learning that surrounded the college. I learned more my first week there then I did throughout high school. I continue to be excited about what I'm going to learn each day.
Am enjoying being here While I was attending I found out about a school competition called TMCC Idol. I got talked into trying out and not only got in, but got second place in the competition. I had so much fun! The school really invites you in and everywhere you go your surrounded by great people.
Bang for the buck TMCC is ridiculous cheap, especially for the amazing services they provide. Most services are free, tutoring, printing, library services, academic advisement. My English teacher actually said she had never worked for a school that was such a bargain.
Tips for prospective students TMCC isn't a very hard school to get into and if you take it seriously you will learn so much. Register early so you can get the classes you want. Don't be afraid to use the tutoring center, its completely free and there for the students.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is strapped for cash and wants to be in a great environment for learning.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Truckee Meadows Community College is simply the best school in Northern Nevada. Classes are a manageable size so professors are able to give you the attention you need. You will receive quality instruction without having to pay University prices for classes.
Tips for prospective students Utilize all academic departments! From the academic advisory team to the library, there is always someone there to help. If you have a question for the math department, head to the Vista building and consult with the staff. If you are needing some extra help with your homework, head to the learning center. Someone will always be there to answer your questions.
Academic Rigor The thing I love most about Truckee Meadows is the staff. Professors here are not like those in a traditional university setting. You will still be expected to work hard, but if you study and finish your homework on time, it will be a breeze.
Food and Dining TMCC has a great cafeteria! It may be small, but there is much variety. You have the choices ranging from a fresh salad bar, to a filling hot meal created before your eyes by the cafeteria staff.
What to do for fun There is always something happening at Truckee Meadows! Keep an eye on the billboards on campus and check the school calendar. Being a sister school to the University opens up the door to many UNR activities too!
Bang for the buck I love the fact I can take my classes I need for my degree at TMCC and pay so much less than at the University. Classes are smaller so you get more interaction with your professors and a more quality education.
Campus Safety TMCC has great campus security. Being a smaller campus, you are always close to the campus police. You often get email updates from the TMCC security team with safety tips and will receive updates if there is a security issue.

It has the most supportive and helpful personnel who are willing to go the extra mile to help students out. The campus atmosphere always encourages a positive attitude.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should always seek help and work hard. Do not struggle alone. Every college employee is there to help you realize your dreams. Please always remember to help them help you.
Academic Rigor Education is intense. It involves a higher level of understanding. Some of the courses are tough but, the professors make it very clear what they expect from you during the course. IF a student follows the professors guidance they'll pass. Schedule your classes ahead of time or else you'll regret it.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at TMCC. It's a junior or community college. student live off campus.
Food and Dining The food from the cafeteria is always fresh and health. They also provide different or new dishes at times. Although if you are on a budget, it will drain your pocket.
What to do for fun Join the honor society. Engage in student government. Some times the college host student social activities. Students can also attend meetings that discuss the future of tuition cost.
Bang for the buck When I first joined, i though it was a bang for the buck but, tuition cost has increase and it seem to be getting higher and higher. Take all the cheaper classes at community college and for those that it doesn't offer, take at the university if you're on a budget.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have not encountered any unusual traditions at the college. I am pretty familiar with every location on campus. It is a small campus that has some charm.
Great for these types of students It is great for a student who is looking for a quiet college. A student who wants to work closely with professor or who wants to transition from high school to college life. Students who want to attend college in a small city.
Clubs and Activities Join the honor society. Engage in student government. Some times the college host student social activities. There are severally clubs to join in the campus depending on one's interests.
Greek Life Join the Truckee Meadows Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. It is indulging, cheering, and motivating.
Campus Safety The campus is safe. I have never had any scary incident. The campus police are always ready to walk students to their cars any time of the day for any reason. They also offer life skills to students such as training to protect oneself, how to react in emergency situations, and many others. Students should look into those programs.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Truckee Meadows Community College is dedicated to fostering education for adults of all ages. The staff and faculty is excellent. Class size is smaller so that you can get the help from instructors, and they offer a wonderful tutoring center so that there is no room for failure.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should actively participate in class, get to know their instructor, read the TMCC paper titled the Echo, and pay attention to bulletin boards. If there is time also become active in TMCC Student Government. Make sure to network with other students and form great bonds for current studying and the future. Be familiar with the TMCC Financial Aid Department so that you stay up to date on scholarship information and opportunities. prospective students should also introduce themselves to executive faculty because any faculty or staff is ready and willing to provide a recommendation should you ever need one. Students who have not taken school in some years or have ACT SAT scores should be prepared to take the entry Accuplacer Test so that TMCC knows your education level and where you should start. Do not procrastinate and wait till it is to late to enroll or you can get overwhelmed. Pay attention in orientation, and use the online tutoring if you have online classes.
Academic Rigor There can be rigorous work in the class room. TMCC gives a lot of hands on experience and offers the tutoring center if students should fall behind or need a helping hand. There is however, not a heavy book load for majority of classes.
Dorm Life No Dorms available.
Food and Dining There are only a couple of on campus spots to get food. There is the cafe that offers full services for lunch and breakfast, and an additional coffee stand that offers some snacks and drinks. It would be nice to get a restaurant in the facility. Off campus locations are limited to vending machines. All buildings do provide a microwave, which comes in handy.
What to do for fun For fun people should get involved with clubs and student government activities. Take advantage in department student contests that offer free classes or tuition for contest winners. Off campus there are a lot of activities in the Reno Tahoe area to take advantage of.
Bang for the buck TMCC is an amazing system of higher education. In recent years they have made great lengths to be one of two in the nation that offer a renewable energy program. The school is also committed to improving its own energy efficiency with the insulation of solar panels and wind turbines. Make sure that you purchase textbooks online or at Textbook Brokers the campus bookstore is contracted and has high prices. I also recommend renting them online if you don't plan to look at the book or use it for reference in the future. The price for classes is not to bad, but sadly rising. I was just part of a committee that did acquire students reduce public transportation fare. :D
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I spend a lot of time in the student government room. It is the best place to sit and study and use the computer on the main campus. There is a great trail that you can walk or jog on for exercise! Off campus sites also are great places to go if you cannot make it to the main college or prefer more peace and quiet. The tutoring and learning center is also a great location that many students don't take the opportunity to utilize.
Great for these types of students This school has a great nursing, dental hygiene, radiology tech., criminal justice, HVAC, and renewable programs.
Clubs and Activities There are ten plus clubs on campus. You can get involved in clubs that include public speaking, politics, international students, and business to name a few. The clubs are a lot of fun and by being involved you can also help support the community in the area.
Greek Life No Greek life.
Campus Safety TMCC offers its own police department. They are on campus at all times and can assist students with any troubles, car issues, and escorts. The police officers often parlor on campus for additional safety, and offer emergency phones in the parking lots.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The residents of Nevada are very lucky to have Truckee Meadows community College (TMCC) in the state, A+ in rating!
The faculty has been top notch in assisting me at learning how to be a college student, since it has been twenty-six years without being enrolled in school.
The Price is very reasonable and renders us all a great opportunity for an education.Tips for prospective students If you are just returning to school after a long hiatus, or starting right after high-school, there are many services available to you. I would recommend visiting the counselor for assistance for any guidance you may need for deciding a career. The staff is willing to assist you with goals that you may wish to achieve. Often times college is overwhelming and these people can help students make it through life troubles or simply college overload. They have been very helpful in directing me to different centers for learning assistance and for direction in what steps to take next for each semester.
The skills center is very important as well. It doesn't matter what age or subject, the center is there for you five days a week. It is a tremendous tool for assistance in any subject you are taking. The tutors are very patient and always helpful.
Academic Rigor I believe TMCC to be firm in its stance of a good education. The teachers are difficult but not expecting things that students are not capable of doing. The education received here will be something that can be carried forward to a higher level and the students will be prepared.
Dorm Life I am a forty-three year old single mom and owner of a business. I go to school and return to work or home. I have no knowledge of the dorm life. I don't know if the Community colleges provide that.
Food and Dining The cafeteria at Tmcc has done very well to accommodate the long hours students will be in school. Even night classes have until seven o'clock to have dinner before class. The food has a great variety. There is always hot pizza, a great salad bar, yogurt, juices, and a grill that is open until seven as well. There is a deli where sandwiches can be made fresh that is open through late afternoon. There is always something to eat.
On the coffee side, there is a large array of coffee, tea, and hot water with all the extras. You really don't have to leave campus. What to do for fun If you have a little time and enjoy the gym there is a very good opportunity to work out at the gym on site. The fees are reasonable and it is easy to locate. If the outdoors are what works for you, there is a jogging-exercise trail that circles the campus.
Socially there is always an art exhibit or a club gathering of some sort happening in the main hall, just below the cafeteria. Everyday there is an organization that has an informational gathering. Time can always be filled if a diversion from study is needed.Bang for the buck Truckee Meadows is a pleasant environment and easily navigated campus. It offers a great many on line and on site classes for a reasonable price. It enables many students that cannot afford an education elsewhere, a good education at an economical price. The diversification of classes allows those of us that work, an opportunity to attend night classes as well. This school saves thousands at the Associate level.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I do not know of any unusual traditions or locations. The school is at the top of a hill. The hill can be tough in the winter, but that is the only time location comes into play. The hill is usually cleared of snow (if there is any) by nine.
Great for these types of students Any student can attend TMCC. There is no age limit. Their are students as young as 18 and as old as 75. Everyone is welcome and never has been made to feel out of place. People looking to start an education for a reasonable price will all find their education can begin here. It does not matter what age or ethnic origin. As long as the course catalog contains the classes needed, any type of student is capable of attending.
Clubs and Activities I do not attend any clubs or activities do to schedule. There are a great many I have learned about through teacher announcements in class, however. Every week there is a club like the Entrepreneur club or Art club meeting . There are exhibits and functions for every club formed. All a student has to do is look up their interests, be it politics, dance or business, there is a club for them.
Greek Life It's all Greek to me! I do not know of any on the community college side. The students would have to check up on that.
Campus Safety The Campus feels very safe. There is a Police Station right on site. The Police monitor the streets to the college and patrol the parking lot all of the time. I have never felt any threat there at all. The area is well lit and does not stretch so far away from the buildings that you feel alone. The Officers are very visible.

Dorm Life I don't know because I have never stayed in a dorm.
Food and Dining I have never ate in the cafeteria so I don't know how the food is, but the dining area is big with lots of tables.
What to do for fun I don't know what the young students do for fun here but in the summer time we have the air races here, balloon races, camel races, hot august nights, just to name a few, and concerts on the river every night for free.
Bang for the buck I don't really know, so sorry.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The instructors at Truckee Meadows really let you know that they care about helping the students get to the next level of their education. Whether it's because the instructors have a zest for life or if it's because most of them are only part time and can be fired at any moment: the results are obvious that the people there want the students to succeed. Truckee Meadows is a wonderful educational facility and I wish it were a four year school.
Tips for prospective students Check out rate my professor to see who some of the more highly rated instructors are. Even the mediocre professors want you to succeed. And join an extracurricular activity if you're not working. It will improve your academic performance.
Academic Rigor If you do work you will succeed. Unfortunately not everyone will be able to do that because they work or have kids.
Dorm Life There are no dorms, but you can find an apartment or rent a house with a group of people. If you can pull that off then living expenses will be quite cheap.
Food and Dining The only thing really worth getting are the made to order burgers and the chicken strips. Everything else is on an eat-as-hunger-dictates basis. Still I won't complain. It's a community college.
What to do for fun It's Reno so there's skiing in the winter and riverside kayaking in the summer. On campus there are a few clubs but I wouldn't exactly call them fun. There are no hobby clubs for example.
Bang for the buck TMCC is a fabulous value. It's cheap and the instructors are really good. In fact on average the instruction is better than at a four year school. I would recommend getting your general education requirements at TMCC to everyone. Parking is rough between 9am and 3pm. However the parking situation isn't nearly as bad when compared to the University Of Nevada-Reno.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There aren't any.
Great for these types of students If you work and go to school then this is a great place to go. It's not going to hit you in the wallet and the schedules are flexible. Evening classes can fill up so register early.
Clubs and Activities There really aren't that many clubs and activities on campus. That's fine because there are so many people who work. But even then there aren't too many student activities.
Greek Life NONE.
Campus Safety Compared to the University of Nevada Reno crime is practically non-existent. Because there are no housing communities nearby you don't have to worry about drug dealers or meth heads. As always be careful at night because when classes get out at 10pm the campus can seem abandoned.

Dorm Life no dorms here. I live at home. the school is on the hill.
Food and Dining the food is good but very expensive. PB&J for me. there is a starbucks on campus.
What to do for fun run around campus, its huge with a trail
Bang for the buck parking is free but it sucks. I leave my house one and half hour earlier just for parking.some spots are even in mud and unpaved land

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This is my first college experience at 42 years old, but I love it here. I not only attend classes on campus, but online. That is extremely convenient for a single father with a full time job too boot.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about attending, don't wait. The staff here is extremely helpful in every area. There financial aid department is great and everyone here wants to see you succeed.

Dorm Life As this is a community college there are no dorms.
Food and Dining The cafeteria prepares great food and a fair price. And every so often you can dine in the restaurant where the culinary students prepare, seat and serve the campus. Yummy, let me tell you.
What to do for fun The Truckee Meadows over a vast array of seasonal fun, all reasonably close to campus. Tahoe for skiing and beach time. The Truckee River for fishing and rafting. Reno also boasts a pretty good music scene.
Bang for the buck I believe you can a fantastic education for the cost. Now I do not know what the national average is for obtaining an Associates is, but I do think TMCC is a very reasonably priced school.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Located in a beautiful area ontop of a mountain overlooking Reno and Sparks. Offers great classes and parking was never an issue. More affordable than the University and just as good.
Tips for prospective students Dont assume classes will be cancelled because it is snowing. But dont be afraid either. They sand the roads immensly and ice is very minimal all around campus.
Academic Rigor This I feel was a bit lacking. Not much emphasis on achieving great grades, but simply just passing the class. It is soley on you to pull the motivation to get a higher GPA.
Dorm Life There is no dorms.
Food and Dining I have actually never been to the dining hall, but they have a great variety of vending machines tht also take credit cards!
What to do for fun Not much.
Bang for the buck Same degree as UNR but for less money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Park all the way on the side and you get a great view overlooking downotwn.
Great for these types of students Great for people looking to transfer to a 4 year or just want an associates.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Beautiful campus with a diverse student body. Several web based classes online which is great for adult/non-traditional students. Cost of tuition per semester is very reasonable - four classes $1200.
Tips for prospective students Complete all of the required new student steps and take a tour. I found out so much even though I had taken a class here and there over the years. They offer so many differnt things - counseling, gym, tutoring - I was amazed.
Academic Rigor The majority of classes are geared toward an associates degree or for transfer to UNR. Depending on the class and the instructor it can be challenging. Web-based courses are difficult in that they are not work at your own pace - you have to be very disciplined in order to take them.
Food and Dining Culinary program on campus. Excellent restaurant and cafeteria.
What to do for fun The Reno-Tahoe area has many festivals, events, and outdoor activities (summer and winter). Whatever you enjoy doing, you can do it here. Reno/Sparks is relatively small - so getting to the other end of town is a quick drive. Skiing in Tahoe is as little as 30-45 minutes away. The Rib Cookoff, Great Reno Balloon Races, downtown festivals every weekend during summer - the possibilities are endless.
Bang for the buck I was surprised at how reasonable it is. To complete my transfer degree it will cost approximately $6,000 for two years (fall, spring, and summer courses) - which works out to about $1,100 per term.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are only three buildings on the main campus (but there are a total of five loacted throughout Reno). It is a beautiful campus nestled right in the hills overlooking downtown Reno. You can actually see all of Reno Sparks from the quad. Wonderful environment.
Great for these types of students Students just coming out of high school who are not ready or emotionally mature enough to attend a four year university. Non-traditinoal or working adults who need web based classes.
Clubs and Activities Various clubs such as student government, science, art, theater, and computers.
Campus Safety On campus police who will escort you to your car at night. They are highly visible. Safety is also your responsibility - be aware of your surroundings. It is not a dangerous campus by any means. I feel completley safe there at night as a female.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The education quality has suffered from budget cuts. This college is a great way to save money on your associates degree prior to attending a university. Overall the school strives to be committed to students given the current economic climate.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard on your own, and be in control of your learning. With the budget cuts the school has many new teachers, who are adjusting to new positions and subjects, it is helpful to read your chapters before attending class so you know where you are struggling beforehand. Use college professor rating websites to view reviews on teachers prior to choosing classes.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor depends on the instructor. Some instructors are very stern and others are more laid back. There are not many campus wide education policies.
Food and Dining There is a cafe on campus that is run by culinary students. The hours of operation are limited, and the food is not very great. Also, a small coffee stand also with very limited hours. Most food consumed on campus comes from the vending machines.
What to do for fun For fun on campus there are often events in the student center. The campus is located on top of a mountain a few miles away from everything.
Bang for the buck The cost of attending this school are significantly low for the area. The education quality is not the greatest but if you apply yourself and work hard, this school can prepare you for attending a university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The back side of the campus offers a great birds eye view of the cities Reno and Sparks.
Great for these types of students Students just out of high school ready to dive into shaping their future, and older students who work while attending school.
Clubs and Activities TMCC has many clubs to join. Most clubs are highly active on campus and in the community with great faculty leaders to assist. Examples of clubs are; student government, Phi Theta Kappa chapter or the international honor society (By invite only based on academics) Entrepreneurship club.
Campus Safety Truckee Meadows has onsite security. and a very effective notification system for alerts on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A once great school to attend, TMCC currently has a low morale and a lot of dissatisfaction among the student population. Recent changes in policies, academic programs, and accreditation issues has many students unable to finish degree programs and scrambling for other options after spending years paying for/attending classes. Students continue to be misinformed/given inaccurate information and never know of program changes etc. until the last minute.
Tips for prospective students Do your research and stay current on what is going on with you degree choices. Attend orientations regularly and read the online catalog each semester, it is the only way to find out what changes are happening. Most of the advisers/staff aren't sure of what is happening to adequately advise students. Check and double check the information and always have plan B.
Academic Rigor This depends entirely on the course and the individual instructor. Many courses are extremely easy and self explanatory as long as you keep up with the work, others are very difficult. Each instructor has their own style and requirements. Some classes you will pay for and feel like you are teaching yourself, others are great and you come away knowing you have learned a lot. It also depends on the student, their learning styles, abilities and dedication.
Dorm Life No dorm here.
Food and Dining Although they have a cafeteria, I have never eaten there so I cannot rate this. I have heard it is decent.
What to do for fun I never really had time to be involved in the social end of school much, they seem to have different groups etc. to join and hold some things for students if that is what you are into. They have a fitness center for students use and an array of elective courses. All in what you have time for and are looking for.
Bang for the buck Even with increases in tuition due to budget cuts, it is still more affordable than the few other college options we have here. We are extremely limited, with only this community college, a university and a few technical schools. Better to do as much of your education here, than pay much higher fees.
Great for these types of students The school is still geared more toward the fresh out of high school student population even though a good percentage of students are those returning to school in later years. Class schedules and course work can be hard do around working and other life responsibilities.
Greek Life unknown
Campus Safety Overall pretty safe campus, procedures are in place for this, campus police seem to stay on top of things. Have never had any problems and have only heard of 2 incidents of anything happening in my years there. Never felt unsafe as a student.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Even though Truckee Meadows Community College is just a junior college it does have its positives. It is a beautiful, safe and well taken care of campus with many different locations. I would recommend attending a junior college for any if not all prerequisites before attending to a University, I did this and I feel I saved money and got some good education.
Tips for prospective students Truckee Meadows Community College has some excellent programs and if you do some research on the classes and instructors you will do no more than succeed if you have that mind set. The times for the classes could not be more convenient there are classes that are in class and hands on along with on-line.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes are more structured that others and those are the ones that I personally feel students succeed more in. Truckee Meadows has a lot of instructors that seem to have no more than a High School or Middle School teaching back ground.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life what-so-ever at Truckee Meadows Community College. I would have liked if the school did have dorms or a connection with a nearby apartment complex. This would have been more convenient that driving 30+ minutes to the campus four days a week,.
Food and Dining At the main campus there are several vending machines all over each building. Along with all of the machines there is a cafeteria that has a lot of healthy choices and a great variety.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Even though this campus is not the largest it is very convenient because there is more than one location. There are several locations around Reno and they all offer an immense selection of classes.
Great for these types of students I have been at Truckee Meadows Community College for some time now and I have seen just about every type of student there. It is really nice that this school does incorporate their high school with some select college courses as well.
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs at Truckee Meadows Community college. I; unfortunately, did not make the time to join and/or participate in any. None of them that were heavily advertised really caught my eye.
Greek Life I am unaware of any Greek life at Truckee Meadows Community college. It would have been kind of cool if there was somewhat of one because it would have made me actually want to participate in something more at this school. If there is any sort of Greek life the school did not do a great job of advertising for it.
Campus Safety The campus safety at Truckee Meadows Community college is incredible! When I take night classes there is always an officer available to walk anyone to their cars. There are also officers that patrol the parking lots day and night.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Getting out of high school I did not learn a lot and was confused in many subjects. This college helped me learn even the most basic concepts that I did not understand in high school.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here because I like small colleges. It is not a giant campus, but there is more than one. The only problem I face is being young in a community college can be intimidating. A lot of older people go to community colleges, so there is not a lot of young people around. I am not saying being older is bad, but personally I feel intimidated with me being 17 and the majority being, estimated, over 25 years old.
Bang for the buck The pricing is not bad for a community college. I got a lot of knowledge out of it, and it is probably just as good as some other expensive colleges.
Tips for prospective students Read the description of the class before you register for it. Listen to what other students say about teachers. See if you can figure out what teacher fits you type of learning because sometimes there is more than one teacher, but they teach differently. Register as early as you can to get the classes you want or need. Based on the teachers I have had so far, they are understanding and will try to help you as much as they can.
Great for these types of students Anyone who has time, motivation, and needs a college that is not extremely expensive.
