Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm a freshman at Tuskegee and I just finished my 1st semester. As an Animal Poultry and Veterinary Science Major I have learned so much more than I expected. I was expecting to only become a Vet with my major but our APSC 100 class taught me to open my eyes to other careers in the field. The work is sometimes too much too handle but it can be done if you prioritize accordingly. Other than that you are going to learn a lot and personally my last semester was fairly easier than expected.
Am enjoying being here I'm from a small town so Tuskegee feels comfortable to me. However there is nothing really to do in the city of Tuskegee if you do not party. You have to travel to Auburn, Montgomery, or the other surrounding areas. Overall it's okay. During homecoming there were lots of activities to become involved in. And occasionally there are other things occurring on the campus to hold interest. I just tend to get bored often.
Bang for the buck Tuskegee is a school like no other and that I can say proudly. We're ranked the Number 1 HBCU in Alabama. The lessons that I learn both inside and outside of the classroom are preparing me for the Real World. However I have found issues that make me question my decision on coming here. For starters the living situations are not the best, administrator's in the Bursar's office will give you a hassle, and I am envious of Auburn's Student Union and library. Many of the books in our main library are outdated and there are not enough things in our Union to hold every one's interest.
Tips for prospective students FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!!!!! Remember why your here and put everything else on the back burner. Join organizations that fit who you are and those that will also make your resume look better. Talk to advisors, upper-classmen, and make friends that want the same thing out of life as you do. Stay true to yourself and the person that you are. Study; you came to college to get an education. Get it!!! The information is available for you all you have to do is get it.
Great for these types of students That want the small campus experience; this way you are able to get more hands on experience. It is also right for people who know they belong at Tuskegee. You should most definitely come to Tuskegee if they're known for your major. ( I DID!!!)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You learn soo much at Tuskegee, im a history major here, so my schedule is pretty easy. lots of room for electives. If you are a guy then you should try and stay in young as a freshman, thats the best male freshman dorm. the other one, bethune looks like garbage. plus young has won the freshman step show 5 years a row. (Young Hall is SMooth!)
Am enjoying being here I enjoy Tuskegee, but you gotta be prepared for the black college experience which is the best there is. be prepared to have a roommate, be prepared for cold showers sometimes. be prepared to wait in long lines at the cafeteria, caf its the top hbcu in alabama, and number 6 in the country. great school. if you can make it here and survive with black folks. you can make it anywhere and deal with anybody.
Bang for the buck now dont get me wrong tuskegee is a great school but theres gonna be times where you get fed up with how much you have to pay compared to the service you get. but its all part of the experience and will make you better off in the long run
Tips for prospective students Get your GPA up in high school. start appling now!!! keep your options open. Tuskegee isnt for everybody, its for you. Also ladies, look out for the greeks when you get here, if you lookin right they will certainly notice lol. fellas dont try to get in no relationship right away, play the field, learn. you;ll learn quickly which girls are dateable and which are off limits. by second semester things will calm down enough for you to make a good decision. lol
Great for these types of students gotta be organized! gotta be focused! but you gotta have fun from time to time. So if Tuskegee is right for you then send your stuff in. look forward to ball and parlaying with you! HEEEYYY TUSKEGEEEEE!!!!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm a Junior English major and I can definitely say I have learned a lot since I've been here. I've always excelled in school and although I've managed to maintain above a 3.0 GPA my entire time here while maintaining a pretty fruitful social life, I definitely have had to put in work. I can't say any of the workloads I've been challenged with thus far have been unreasonable but time management is key. I can't stress that enough (even if you're good at a subject you still have to study or put forth effort into writing papers or what have you so you MUST make time for working/studying).
Since I've been here I've taken advantage of several different programs that have given me the opportunity to go to Orlando twice for a competition as well as to spend part of my summer at Emory University in Atlanta for a fellowship (I'll be at Duke this fall for a conference and who knows where else next summer) and that's just me. This summer I have friends from all different majors all around the country and world at internships and fellowships. There's a ridiculous amount of opportunities to expand your horizons in this tiny ol' town but you've got to go and get them.Am enjoying being here Tuskegee is in a small little country town; there's just no getting around it. While there's some things I'd like to improve about the campus there's just no place I'd rather be. If you get out of your dorm room and off of facebook and take advantage of the different organizations on campus you're bound to find ways to keep yourself entertained and meet a diverse group of people in the process (hopefully somebody who has a car if you haven't got one lol). You'll come to find 'Skegee is like it's own little secret society (the school hazes you freshmen and sophomore year... you'll figure it out lol) and there's just something about it that'll make your heart swell up with pride after you return from a long summer.
On another note, there's life in Montgomery and Auburn and while Auburn is a larger public university with more resources even the black students from Auburn come to Tuskegee to hang out when they feel homesick. I got in to both but Tuskegee chose me. :-)Bang for the buck As high as the tuition is, with scholarships and grants from the university and outside sources Tuskegee actually became my least expensive choice. It is a private school so money is a major issue but if you made good grades in high school you shouldn't let the sticker shock deter you and see how much you can get from the school before you make your final decision. There's definitely money out there.
Tips for prospective students 1. Get off of facebook.
2. Get out of your dorm room.
3. Get involved! Stay involved!
4. Join a club/organization.
5. Meet people different from yourself.
6. Take Mr. Philips' Black Aesthetic course,
7. Take Archery
8. Take Dr. Bales for 107
9. Take any of Dr. Hannon's sociology courses.
10. Be early to the caf on Wednesday.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a Chemical Engineering major and this subject is not one to play with. My classmates are constantly working hard day in and day out on design projects and lab work. The courses here are strenuous but in the end it is so rewarding. I will have the knowledge that matches any of the other students attending the top engineering schools in the country.
Am enjoying being here Tuskegee University is what you make of it. The diversity of things to do on campus is very large and the organizations and events are endless. There will be plenty of times where you get frustrated with this school but If you manage to link up with the right people and attend the right functions your experience here will be like no other.
Bang for the buck This institution is private so the tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. In the long run once you have that cap and gown and your degree you will think everything was worth it.
Tips for prospective students School is always first. Know who you are when you are coming in as to not get lost throughout your journey here. There are plenty of influences, positive and negative but always keep your eye on the prize.
Great for these types of students Pre-Vet, Nursing, Engineering, and Business Administration. This is a very well rounded school with students from Louisiana, California, New York, Alaska and even the West Indies. Everyone is welcome.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Many people don't give HBCU's the credit that they deserve. I have learned so much both in the classroom and out. The student body is very divers and the curriculum is challenging (depending on the amount of credit hours you take).
Am enjoying being here I was hesitant about coming here and I think that is is the best decision that I have ever made. Coming from a major city I thought that the transition to the country lifestyle would be a hard one, but it was the smoothest change ever. The people are nice and the surroundings are beautiful. I have found the most amazing group of friends ever and I dont think that I would feel as at home if I would have attended any other college.
Bang for the buck For the price that you pay to be here I would definitely say that the education is completely worth it if you actually take advantage of it. On the downside, some of the dorms arent the greatest an you will always be stuck in the paper chase of the administration. And there is hardly any city life around for miles and miles.
Tips for prospective students Come with an open mind and be ready to take in all that Tuskegee has to offer. Never go anywhere alone (especially off campus). Always remember why you are here and do not get too caught up in partying.

Categories Rating Comments Am enjoying being here I love the enthusiam and spirit that Tuskegee has. I have seen no other school get excited for the little things and I love that!
Bang for the buck Its expensive and the money is not being shown. But they did renovate two buildings and built a brand new student union.
Tips for prospective students Network and study and HAVE FUN! Tuskegee is in the middle of nowhere so there are plenty of times that you will be bored but you just have to make the most of it and have fun. Meet new people and dont sit your dorm all day.
Great for these types of students That are enegertic, spirited, commited, persistant.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Here at Tuskegee there are many different ways of keeping a student motivated and moving forward to gaining nothing but A's out of all of his/her classes. Within each of the different colleges on the campus are the various tools each student needs to keep building themselves up. Tools such as; computer labs, study rooms, and professors that are willing to stay later than their usual office hours to help. On top of that there are tutoring sessions throughout the day with more than one person tutoring so if there is something they do not know then the next person will.
Am enjoying being here Everyday on this campus is a day for meeting new people and finding fun and productive things to do. There are many clubs, organizations, community service events and other ways to make out of class time enjoyable. Every few days there might be a different event going on to keep everyone having a good time.
Bang for the buck The tuition may seem high, but for everything that you are offered and given it is well worth every dollar. From the resources open to each student, the gyms, the cafe, tutoring all of these resources make it well worth the money.
Tips for prospective students When you come here be ready to be challenged both mentally and physically. There will be times where you just want to quit and go home but remember this is going to help you in the long run. Everything that goes on here will toughen you up and get you ready for the real world and business world. This is a great school filled with many different people who are smart and ready to help if necessary.
Great for these types of students This school is great for any and every student. Tuskegee will accept who ever walks on their campus with open arms. The students, faculty, and staff will ensure that they help you in any way that they can to get you ready for not just the business world, but also the real world.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot from the classes that go with my major (computer science and math). On the other hand, a lot of the other recommended first-year classes are repeats of what was done in high school. It's not bad, just redundant but I don't feel like I'm missing out on a learning experience.
Am enjoying being here There are a lot of activities to be involved in on campus. On the downside, there is nothing to do in the city of Tuskegee unless you party. Other than that, you have to go to Auburn or Montgomery. It's even worse if you don't have a car.
Bang for the buck I don't see where the money is going for TU to cost as much as it does. Administration also screws up financial aid sometimes and gives you the run-around.
Tips for prospective students FOCUS! Do not be one of those first-year students that has to get a wake-up call their first semester and play catch-up the second. If you don't have a car, it helps to find friends that do because TU can get boring.
Great for these types of students Those that like smaller classes with more interaction with the teacher.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Tuskegee University provides one of the most diverse learning environments of any institution I have seen. The opportunity to learn something new, both inside and outside of the classroom is always present.
Am enjoying being here There is no atmostphere like TUSKEGEE!!!! The Tuskegee experience is a vast compilation of academic excellence and social superiority. Younger students are allowed the time time and environment to find themselves under the close watch and guidance of older more knowledgable students.
Bang for the buck Tuition at Tuskegee is very expensive because it is a private institution. Alumni, Investors, as well as the University's newly appointed President are all working in collaboration to assure students that Tuskegee Univerisity continues to grow (new buidings, new programs, better technology).
Tips for prospective students - GO TO CLASS
- Get to know your professors
- Study!!!!!
- Make sure you are financially clear prior to the start of the year.
- Apply for scholarships
- If you are able to experience Tuskegee share it with others.
- Be open minded
- Take time to learn some of the history of Tuskegee
- Have fun in your spare time!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The courses that every student must take are challenging but well worth it. Tuskegee is known for the quality education that students are given.
Am enjoying being here Tuskegee is a community of loving people but since it is in a rural area it may be hard to get places without a car.
Bang for the buck It is worth it but you have to make sure you stay on time of administration. Sometimes they have trouble keeping important documents that hold you back from being financially cleared. But for the quality education we are receiving it is worth it.
Tips for prospective students Bring a car, stay on top of administration, and stay focused with your studies (it is very easy to fall behind)
Great for these types of students Students who like to meet new people, students who want to learn more about their black history, and anyone who is interested in earning a degree from a prestigious university like Tuskegee.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences tuskegee university is a great school. coming from an ethnically diverse high school, i feel this university is rich in history and culture. the academic curriculum for students interested in the sciences is phenomenal because these programs offer hands on experiences.
Tips for prospective students for prospective students you need to be prepared to do things for yourself, yet be willing to ask questions when you need assistance. the upperclassmen are helpful and most of the staff is supportive. there is a tutoring center and there are organizations that you can get involved in once you get situated with college life.
Academic Rigor some of the courses are moderately fair while others are intense. there are support systems in place if you need help. it is important to meet with your advisers and instructors who can assist you. i have taken some advanced courses, as an incoming freshman, that have been very difficult and even stressful at times. however, most of my instructors have supported my efforts and will make themselves or other support staff available to assist a student in need.
Dorm Life dormitory life is interesting. sometimes there are activities that take place which bring about camaraderie within the dormitory such as the dorm step show competition. there are also other events that take place on the different floors in the dormitory. one downside to living in the dormitory is the microwave policy.
Food and Dining presently the original dining hall is undergoing renovations. in the interim, another facility is used to accommodate students. this dining area can be overcrowded at times and servings and choices are limited. however, there are two other eateries on campus if you don't like cafeteria-style food. off campus and in the city of tuskegee there are five fast food restaurants (quiznos, mcdonald's kfc, etc.) and at least three other local eateries. from what i understand, the renovations for the original cafeteria will be completed in the near future.
What to do for fun if you want to have fun on campus there are seasonal sports to attend such as football and basketball games. in addition, different organizations host various events on campus. there are talent and fashion shows as well. if you want to have fun off campus auburn and montgomery are nearby towns not too far from tuskegee. there are also a host of parties students can attend on and off campus.
Bang for the buck considering the cost of the school, the location, and the hands on experiences, i feel the university provides its students with a stimulating and worthwhile learning experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus tuskegee university has a rich history that began with booker t. washington the first president of the university. booker t. washington was an author, an educator and a political leader. george washington carver a renowned scientist, inventor and professor at tuskegee revolutionized the world of agriculture. the first squadron of african-american pilots to fight in ww ii trained at tuskegee and became known as the red tails or the tuskegee airmen.
Great for these types of students tuskegee is ideal for students who do not mind being in a rural area and are very much interested in the sciences.
Clubs and Activities there are many clubs that are affiliated with different fields of study at the university. there are non-academic clubs and organizations that focus on political and civil rights issues. the naacp, the marching pipers band, and concert choir are some to name a few.
Greek Life there are the traditional african-american fraternities and sororities on campus.
Campus Safety the campus is safe and if there are any problems, incidents can be reported to the campus police.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This school is a very historic school to attend. While you spend your time here in your studies, you also learn a lot about the history of the campus as well because ever since it was founded, there has been many events that make the city and campus historical.
Am enjoying being here I come from a small area outside of Atlanta but have been used to the city life. When I came to Tuskegee, there was a big change from city to country but with the right attitude and group of friends you'll have a great time. I'm an Architect major and because people in my major are always around each other in classes we bound very closely and quick.
Bang for the buck Tuskegee University is a bit pricey because it is a private school. I know for sure for certain majors you get your moneys worth.
Tips for prospective students STUDY and FOCUS!!! Those are the two most important things to do here and there's not a lot out here so it shouldn't be that hard. If you have any problems with any subject DO NOT be afraid to ask for help because people will help you understand and pass the course and you won't have to repeat it. So stay smart and focused but also have fun.
Great for these types of students Everyone

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot They say there is nothing like the Tuskegee Experience, and truer words have never been spoken. You will definitely learn a lot in and out the classroom, and about everything from yourself to the opposite sex to life in general.
Am enjoying being here Everyone is so friendly! It's not hard to make friends at all, and there is a lot of school spirit, I learned that day 1. The campus is quite nice to look at, as well as historical. The atmosphere is welcoming.
Bang for the buck Tuskegee isn't cheap, I will not sugar coat it or anything. But for all you learn and your experience as a college student, it's well worth it. At times you may disagree, but believe me, it's worth every penny.
Tips for prospective students Don't get caught up in the college life. A better way to say it: have a social life and have fun, but not too much fun. Remember your academics is why you're at Tuskegee to begin with.
Great for these types of students All types, really.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am an upcoming sophomore with a Nursing major, which is said to be one of the hardest majors at Tuskegee University. While I am hoping for that not to be completely true, I have personally gone through the set Nursing students' schedule, and it is grueling, despite the fact that I was only a freshman. I've learned to be patient with myself, and know that I came here for an education, and no matter how hard it may seem, the end results will be well worth it. I've also learned from other students mistakes to avoid partying too close to midterms or any other exams. I'ts not worth a night of partying to get an F on an exam-it may not seem like it, but it definitely affercts your GPA in the long run.
Am enjoying being here I like the fact that there is always something going on on campus, but if you're not into clubbing, it can get pretty boring. As a person from Tuskegee, I know first-hand that there is absolutely nothing to do, such as going to the mall, movies, etc, unless you are willing to travel at least 30 minutes to get there. And if you don't have a car? Oh well....the dorms can be kind of shifty, though I am hoping the one I'm placed in this year will be better. Girls: beware of Adams Hall! White Hall is one of the best on campus.
Bang for the buck Though going to Tuskegee University costs alot, especially if you don't have financial aid, I definitely think it's worth it, because of my major. Tuskegee is said to have one of the best Nursing programs in Alabama, so I just grin and bear it, so to speak.
Tips for prospective students Be wary of all the events going on. Some of them have a tendency to be one week away from midterms or finals, so please don't let yourself be too distracted by the festivities. Enjoy yourselves, but not so much that you don't go to class, or worse, do badly on exams.
Great for these types of students Great for the types of students that are used to being in a small town, and have no problems with being easily distracted from work.

Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate and get involved
Dorm Life Dorms are getting better each year. You get to meet a lot of new people, I'm glad to have lived in a dorm.
Food and Dining There is variety.
What to do for fun There's plenty of things to do, not so much in the city but Auburn is 15 minutes away. I believe people make the outsome of any situation so fun is everywhere I go.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our campus is very historical.
Clubs and Activities There are beyond enough clubs and activities to join, and find one that suits your own personality.
Greek Life Greek life is great!
Campus Safety We have 24 hour campus security.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Tuskegee University is a very prestigious college. As a student-athlete with a child, I take my education very seriously. It is very important to have teachers and peers who are as motivated and serious as I am and this is exactly what Tuskegee University offers.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard because good graded are never given to you. You have to earn your grades. Keep your priories in line. DO NOT get caught up in the party life and forget that the reason you are in school is to better your education.
Academic Rigor The teachers are well educated and they work their best to get their students to that point.
Dorm Life I personally disliked the dorm life but it is not all bad. It teaches you to be responsible.
Food and Dining The food is great.
What to do for fun There are not many things to do in Tuskegee but it is not hard to find entertainment.
Clubs and Activities Students Government Association (SGA) is our campuses largest club. It helps students know what events are being held on any off campus.
Sports are always exciting at Tuskegee.Campus Safety Campus is very safe.

Academic Rigor I have heard from students and staff that they are very strict about academics. I will definitely enjoy being apart of that.
Dorm Life I toured White Hall and I liked the set up of the suite style dorm.
Food and Dining I have not yet experienced the food and dining.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Tuskegee has a very strong historical background and you can learn a lot from this school's history. This school also has a great engineering program. This school has its flaws just like every other school, but at times everyone here does join as a family.
Tips for prospective students Don't expect the best from this school, because you won't get the best living environment or the best food.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not great at all. The dorms are horrible and need to be renovated.
What to do for fun Because this school is the middle of the country, Tuskegee offers a lot of clubs for the students to get involved in and the SGA sometimes has events for the students.
