Categories Rating Comments Am enjoying being here Akron has tons of events to attend like Boo at the Roo, comedian shows, hypnotist shows, a movie theatre in the Student Union which occasionally shows movies weeks before they come out in other theatres, musician shows and plenty of other activities...
Tips for prospective students Go in with a positive attitude because going in with belief of failure will only result in failure. Take a tour of campus and see if you can see yourself as a student. Ask questions about everything to your tour guide, if you have a question chances are someone else has the same one. While looking at the campus just have fun and really look at everything. Take the time to walk around by yourself and see if you feel comfortable there because if you don't the college isn't right for you.
Great for these types of students 1) Shy students who have a hard time meeting new people. Akron offers plenty of opportunities to meet other students in fun environments that limit awkwardness. The class tend to be smaller which offers more time to get to know your professors and fellow students.
2) Academic orientated students. Akron offers several different types of educational promoting groups and it's very easy to get in touch with professors. There are tutoring labs held in the main library on campus everyday, classroom assistants in several classes, learning communities (you live and have classes with these people), and a large Honors program with it's own residence hall.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are generally small and the professors are fantastic. After you finish your electives, all the major-specific class are enticing and exciting. I'm glad I chose Akron over a smaller school. There are tons of opprotuniteis here for internships even in the cities near by like Canton, Stow, even Cleveland.
Am enjoying being here I wouldn't be this happy anywhere else!
Bang for the buck Quality education and a beautiful campus is worth it. The cost is relatively cheap compared to other universities this size.
Tips for prospective students Fill out your FASFA early to get your maximum financial aid package. If you're living in the dorms, you either love it or hate it. I would recommend it to freshman because then you are located in the center of campus and everything is easier to get to. Plus you are closer to the dining hall.
Great for these types of students Athletes, honor students, nursing students, engineering student, art students, social work, business, and sports related majors. These are the most commonly herd majors around campus. There are a million and 1/2 groups to join. Starbucks on campus for coffee lovers, and look up our rec center and prepare to be amazed. www.uakron.edu for majors, and for sports go to gozips.com !! Lets go blue and gold!

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Awesome school! I live at home and commute to and from daily. Parking can be a hassle but if you get there early it's a breeze to find a parking spot. I am definitely learning a lot in all of my classes and almost all of the professors are willing to help you out if you are struggling with anything. Highly recommend the University of Akron!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some of the classes here seem like simple repeats of high school courses crammed into a shorter amount of time. I feel that some of the classes, including the prerequisites, include curriculums with subjects I've already learned about. It would be nice if the classes were more comprehensive,
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and absolutely adore it. I would recommend living in the dorms to anyone considering this school. Almost every Tuesday night the Residence Hall Programming Board works hard to put on awesome and entertaining performances like comedians, dances and musicians... for free! I have attended all of them! The dorms are clean, close to classes and convenient. The people are also very friendly. I've made alot of friends.
Bang for the buck For how much I pay to attend classes and live here, it is far better than some of my friends' colleges. There are so many free events to go to. Something is always going on. As a student you get access to the AWESOME recreation center, which I frequent every week. The pool is the perfect temperature and incredibly fun to get some people together and go to. There is alot of exercise equipment as well. It's such a huge place and very clean.
Tips for prospective students I would defanitely recommend joining as many clubs as possible and to attend the welcome week events. The welcome week events are a great way to meet people. The people that I met when I first came to UA are still my friends. There is also a club fair in the student union that exhibits the many different clubs, volunteer groups, and Greek life that Akron students can join. I am in three different clubs and I've also met alot of friends by joining them.
I would also tell a first year student to relax about college and not feel nervous. This campus is the perfect size and they will feel right at home. There are so many people that are there to help and staff and students are incredibly nice. They should defanitely arrive on campus with an open mind.Great for these types of students I would defanitely recommend this school to athletes. They will get great use out of the recreation center, the track, the fields, and the college sports and intramural club sports programs. I am a theater major and the theater program isn't great but there is a theater club and defanitely a place for everyone here. I love how diverse the student population is. I also enjoy how many international students there are and the many study abroad options that are available here. I've made so many international friends! I really hope to study abroad through UA as well.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Not that I didn't learn a fair bit in high school, but I think coming across the country might help me see things a bit differently.
Will enjoy being here I'm SO ready to get out of Vegas!
Bang for the buck It's going to be pretty expensive for me since I'm out of state, but it shouldn't be TOO bad hopefully if I receive a scholarship!
Tips for prospective students Apply EARLY!! I got my admissions decision in about 6 weeks and was surprised how quick this school got back to me!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot When you look at the University of Akron staff/faculty, you find plenty of people who were in your shoes many years ago. You also find understanding and caring individuals who put 100% in their classrooms to benefit YOU. The work in each class is relevant and I've never asked myself, why do I need this? At the University of Akron, I know what I'm learning is important and fortunately, I'm learning a lot!
Am enjoying being here The University of Akron isn't just about going to class and getting a degree, it's about having the best four years of your life while obtaining a degree! There are so many organizations to join from a sorority/fraternity to habitat for humanity! There's plenty of intramural sports for those of us who can't commit to the main team! Every one wants to have a blast while attending school, therefore you meet people who eventually become your best friend!
Bang for the buck One word: Definitely. At first, the figures you're looking at seem pretty high. If you can attend a regional campus for the first year or two, it knocks the price down a bit. However, unlike some campuses, you have the option of living off-campus sooner. Also, a first year student is able to keep a car on-campus which makes commuting home much easier! I'm not overpaying to attend the University of Akron, if anything I'm underpaying.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus!! Ask questions when you visit, familiarize yourself with the campus. College is the one time in your life where you get a fresh start. No one knows who you were in high school so this is your chance to tweak it a little bit. I'm not saying to be someone you aren't, just simply someone you want to be. Break out of your shell and try (most) things once! Remember these are the best 4 years of your life.
Great for these types of students Any student!! University of Akron accommodates all personalities whether you like to socialize or if you'd rather stay in. As said before, there are a ton of organizations! You meet so many different people, especially living on-campus, you're bound to find where you fit in!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a freshman, I was intimidated by the thought of college level courses. However, all of the classes move at a manageable pace and the instructors make it very easy to receive help if you need it.
Am enjoying being here There are plenty of things to do around campus from bowling to rock climbing and even free concerts. Students are constantly receiving emails about what is happening on campus. There is no time to be bored with so much going on around you.
Bang for the buck Because it is a state university, Akron has very reasonable tuition. Students definitely get a quality education for a sensible price. The classes are challenging and the teachers know what they are talking about. There are also a lot of extras that are included in tuition including a bus line that has routes around campus.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour with an actual student rather than a University conducted tour. This way, you will be able to see what you will actually be experiencing. The tour guides that work for the school tend to show the brand new dorms and the best classrooms when, in reality, prospective students will not see those as freshman.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking for a good education but might not have the means to pay for a private university should look into the University of Akron. It is great for students who like the feel of a traditional campus as well as those who prefer an urban feel. Downtown Akron is in view of the school but you still get the secluded feel of a campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love all of my classes. Even the classes I am taking that I didn't really enjoy in high school, like various History courses, are pretty cool here. The professors know what they teach very well and are willing to help students if they need help.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and it is very convinient. I enjoy being able to just wake up and walk to class, because the dorm locations are ideal. It was very easy to choose a dorm close to where I knew I'd spend most of my time. Classes are enjoyable as well, even those that I worried I wouldn't enjoy. Of course the food must be mentioned too. At first it was difficult getting used to how the meal plans worked, but now it is very simple and convenient. There are locations to use meal swipes across campus with many different options which is nice because at anytime you want you can switch up what your eating. In general everyone here is kind as well. I haven't ran into rude people, it is a really nice environment to be in. Overall I really do enjoy being here
Bang for the buck It is expensive, but all colleges really are, however it is worth it in my opinion.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should be sure they have everything lined up and planned out before they start (like dining plans and dorm arrangements) to make the transition smoother. They should also have someone they can ask those little questions to that might pop up out of no where. An academic advisor is nice, but finding an older student with the same or similar major that one can talk to is nice for the questions that come out of no where like how a certain professor prefers a paper to be written.
Great for these types of students This college is great for students that enjoy a friendly environment. Those who don't mind people holding doors open for a perfect stranger, or professors that truly enjoy teaching. Students that want a teacher that knows what they are teaching, enjoys it, and truly wants to help each student do their best to succeed. This is also a great college for students that are looking for a large school, but still have smaller class sizes, and a group of people that they will be around more then others with their major. With the exception of some lectures, class sizes are about the same as an average high school class of around twenty to thirty students.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor i am learning a lot of interesting information in most of my classes which causes me to think and ask questions which is good. i'm able to better understand the information and try to store it in my memory.
Am enjoying being here I'm am definitely enjoying my time here so far, wouldn't rather be anywhere else. I love participating in student events, whether its finding out where Zippy is or attending their weekly movies in the Student Union.
Bang for the buck always keep your zipcard handy because without you will be lost. running late for class, you can jump on the roo express just show you zipcard as you enter. hungry, feel free to grab something to eat at zees with your zipcard. need to print out a english paper then stop by the library where you can use your zipcrd to print at a low price.
Tips for prospective students be open to any and everything because its really going to be the best experience of your life. college is sometimes a place where people find their true selves so don't be afraid to try new things. get involved in as much as you can and participate in the student events, they are really fun.
Great for these types of students open minded students and wacky, optimistic people will really enjoy being here because its so open and you can hang out almost anywhere on campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You learn a lot for your major in the first couple of years. I am an art major and was able to have many art classes in my first year along with completing some general education classes. You learn a lot in the short time you have in the classes and teachers are willing to help you learn and understand the material.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere on campus is nice. Not to crazy about living situations. Bulger hall has 16 floors and fire drills suck but it is one of the cheapest. If you don't mind sharing showers with tons of people then it's for you. It's safe, good security, and there is always plenty to do.
Bang for the buck You get your money for all the classes you take. The professors work hard on their lesson plans and some professors are on a very personal level with their students. All my art teachers had their students call them by their first name or a nickname. It was awesome.
Tips for prospective students If your looking for a fun interactive community this is the college for you. There is something for everyone from sports, entertainment, to academics. No student is left out. Just make sure you study and work hard on all subjects. Don't slack and always pay attention. Only skip class if your seriously ill or if the teacher does not take attendance. Get to know your teachers and see what their limits are. Some teachers are really easy going and can become good friends. Professors are always willing to help especially during and after college. So don't hesitate to ask questions. But enjoy college make friends and get out there.
Great for these types of students If your an art major this is a great school. The art building is like it's own community. It is small so everyone knows everyone. And there are always cool shows and events going on. If your a student from a small town its also nice, because you get the experience of a big city during the day but at night it is like being home again with just some close friends. There are more commuters then residences so it tends to quiet down at night. But it's nice that it's not always to crazy busy. You are in Akron and it is a big city, but being at college is like being in a small town.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the professors genuinely want to help you learn and will go out of their way to help you if asked. Classes are generally very small for a university. I have only had one class over 100 so far. Most of my classes have been in the 20-40 range.
Am enjoying being here The campus is absolutely gorgeous in the summer, fall, and spring. There are a few cool looking buildings. Most of the classrooms are very modern, which I enjoy. They play new movies in the student union twice a week and have free bowling and pool as well as occasional special activities such as speakers, bands, poetry readings, and dances. The student wellness and rec center is VERY nice and large with a pretty cool indoor leisure pool.
Bang for the buck You can tell that the university is using tuition for the benefit of the students. Quite a few new buildings have been built since 2005 and they are still in the process of building new dorms and sports facilities. The teachers here actually want to help you succeed, unlike other colleges where they could care less if you attend class or not. With tuition a lot of things are included such as parking passes, membership to the rec center, and all home games for any sport are free to students (you even get points which earn you free stuff just for going to games!).
Tips for prospective students If you qualify, apply to honors college. Seriously, it sucks big time trying to get into classes as a freshman or sophomore if not in honors. They get to schedule ahead of time and get preference in placement. Live on campus! We have really nice dorms WITH AIR CONDITIONING! Not many schools have dorms with air conditioning so take advantage of that luxury that we have.
Go to games! Join the AK Rowdies, one of the largest student organizations in the country. They hang out at sporting events and have a fun time cheering on the zips.Great for these types of students Soccer fans (we are home to the 2010 national champions, 2009 runners up; two years ranked number 1 team), students who enjoy small class sizes but still want to experience a large university

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Akron is a magnificent school with tons of opportunities for every type of student. With a fantastic school of engineering, you can get a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. The University of Akron has a great nursing program with a great job placement! I am taking 23 credit hours and am learning more this semester than I did in a year at a private University.
Am enjoying being here I am currently a student at the school of music pursuing a degree in music education, the job placement for music education at the U of A is 100%. I absolutely fell in love not only with the friends I have made at Akron but the professors whom are very educated and have great senses of humor.
Bang for the buck I transferred from John Carroll University a private Jesuit school whose tuition was 40 grand a year and I am receiving a better education at Akron with a more reasonable price. Not to mention there is better food, with the zip card you can eat at burger king bw3's and every college students favorite place... taco bell. Come join the 27,000 plus students enjoying every moment at the University of Akron.
Tips for prospective students Buy into the system. College is the best part of your lives because the people you meet will be the people you are with the rest of your lives. Join everything you can meet everyone you can, because you never know they might be your significant other or best friend for life.
Great for these types of students If you want to have fun, learn, not pay a fortune but get the education like you are, and meet a bunch of people that are awesome.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As an education major, The University of Akron has greatly contributed to my knowledge of my major. However, from time to time there is a class or two that seems unnecessary. For example, I had to take a composition class as a general requirement for almost all majors and as an integrated languages arts major for me the class was a waste of time. As a whole though I have experienced and learned a lot in my courses and I believe that this gained knowledge will greatly help me in pursuit of my degree.
Am enjoying being here College is difficult, and especially for freshman it is a huge adjustment. However, once you get past that The University of Akron is a very enjoyable campus to be on. I highly recommend living on campus for at least the first year to get to know people and get that traditional college experience. The university and the RHPB (residence hall program board) work very hard at putting together events, concerts, and sporting events for students to enjoy.
Bang for the buck As a student at The Univerity of Akron, I sometimes have mixed feelings on what I am paying for. For example, in the majority of classes the professors are very knowledgeable and experts at their specified field. However, every once and awhile you'll have a teacher who may be very competent in their field, but not so much at teaching. It is this kind of experience that makes me question the amount of money I am paying for classes.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus, talk to people who go there, really think about what you want from your college experience and compare and contrast this to the other schools you are visiting and thinking about going to. Consider what is important to you as a student and as a person and see if the University meets these needs.
Great for these types of students Students who want a large univeristy experience, who don't mind living in the city, who aren't exactly sure what they want to do because as a larger school the Univerity of Akron has many options for majors.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot since my first semester. First of all, I have learned it is important to stay on top of my classes, and make sure I am staying on track with my major. The University makes this easy for students by providing them with an online resouces called the DARS report where students are able to track how much they have completed their degree. I have also learned it is best to make use of the many resources the University has to offer for students including a math and writing lab which assists in homework in a math or english. I have also learned this past semester it is best to get involved in student activities or organizations in order to meet people and make friends.
Am enjoying being here I love the University of Akron and have enjoyed my past two semesters here. The campus is beautiful with up to date technology and facilities. The faculty is friendly and there are many resources to help students succeed and have the best possible college experience.
Bang for the buck As an in state student, tuition is extremely inexpensive for me. They also offer some scholorships including academic, majors, sports, and many others. I feel the education I am receiving from The University of Akron is equivalent to any high ranking university, and I am very fortunate to have this outstanding school close to home.
Tips for prospective students The University of Akron is a very large school with many diverse students including Ohio residents, out of state students, and many international students. I enjoy the large campus and emense amount of students, however it can be hard to make friends or feel at home at the University of Akron if you do not get involved in student organizations, on-campus activities, or having a job on campus. As a commuter student it can be easy to shuffle through the crowd unnoticed. By getting involved you will meet a tremendous amount of people and feel more at home at the University. The University makes it easy for students to find information about clubs or activities with it's convenient and helpful resources on campus.
Great for these types of students The University is a great school for any students! The only downside to the university is its size, thus it is crucial to find a way to get involved in one way or another. I believe the University of Akron was the best choice for me because of its quality education, low tution cost, and the convenience of having it close to home.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences overall good school. univ. of akron should have a seminars or classes about funding and financial aide. some advisers should assist new students more.
Tips for prospective students research about loans, grants, scholarships and work study opportunities and don't be afraid to ask questions. if you don't understand talk to people. the beginning of your schooling starts before the classes. financial aide can be confusing.

Dorm Life i live off of campus so i wouldn't know about dorm life.
Food and Dining i love starbucks but the food and dining may be consider expensive. who can afford to eat on campus everyday? not many people can afford a healthy diets at campus rates.
What to do for fun there are many events to attend at akron u. there are sports events, seminars and are always activies for the students
Bang for the buck i can't stand favoritism in a classroom. every teacher should treat every student the same and let the grade reflect their work.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus rethinking race in january is a great way to learn about others.
Great for these types of students great for students interested in diversity. can really enlighten students and help them to have a better understanding of one another.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love it here, the people are so nice. i love the one month one class course, i will learn alot faster and i will learn easier. they have small classes and have private tutoring if help is needed.
Tips for prospective students if you want a one month one class kind of thing this is the college for you. the people are nice and they help you with anything you need.
Academic Rigor they have had alot of graduates because they take the time to teach you the things that you need to know for your future career.
Dorm Life there is no dorms here but they help you find a place so that you can attend college.
Food and Dining they have food and drinks in a lounge and they have alot of choices that you can choose from.
What to do for fun you can enter activities that relate your class and i hear they are alot of fun.
Bang for the buck you wil be happy with the results you get at brown mackie college, you will going out in the world and know what to do with your life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus they have discovery day so that you can come up and look at all the classes they have and get to know them. they have work shops to help you with scholarships and what is good and bad to choose from.

Greek Life they dont have one that i know of at the moment.
Campus Safety they are really safe with things at the college they make you learn things before you can do them and you have to know it well cause in vet tech you will have to do surguries on real animals.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I enjoy the close relationships with the professors. Every class I have been in has had exceptional teachers who strive to help the students anyway possible. There is a close knit atmosphere that is very welcoming.
Tips for prospective students The most important tip is to go to class! Not only will it help you with your assignments, but also many times professors mention little side notes not provided on the slides that will be on the test.
Academic Rigor The nursing program was tough, but I believe it has prepared me to a competent level and I feel the skills I have learned have become mastered through the program.
Dorm Life I did not live in the dorm room.
Food and Dining Lots of food options around campus and on campus.
What to do for fun Get involved with many activities as you can, it makes it much easier to meet people with the same interests that you have.
Bang for the buck You cannot beat the content of the nursing program for the price. It is an exceptional value and is an excellent program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Starbucks is a popular hot spot!!! Get there early to avoid lines!
Campus Safety There is a safety hotline that should be programmed into your phone. By calling this number a police officer will be sent to your location almost immediately. There are also services that will drop you off at your car if you take night classes and do not feel comfortable walking to your car in the dark.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Akron University is an excellent school. It's not located in a big city so you don't get easily distracted from your academics, but it has plenty to do on campus as well. Your experience here is whatever you make it.
Tips for prospective students Time management and prioritizing is key. You have to find that balance of taking care of your work and also being able to balance out your social life as well.
Academic Rigor Fair
Dorm Life Had the best freshman experience in my dorm as a freshman. I met a lot of people who I consider to be life long friends. I never experienced any drama, everyone in my dorm got along just great.
Food and Dining Food wasn't bad on campus, it all depends on the meal plan you get.
*Gold Plan highly recommended. What to do for fun You can go bowling and to the movie theater at the union. You can go swimming, play basketball, and swim at the Recreation center. They also have campus wide events you can attend as well.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences An amazing university in terms of both gorgeous facilities as well as academic standing. The college of business is nationally accredited for their academic standing on campus. I thoroughly enjoy being a student at the University of Akron
Tips for prospective students Don't skip class, do your homework, study hard, and most of all have fun! College is the time of your life!
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is not difficult for your general education classes as long as you try your best at getting good grades in the classes. Of course, the classes you take in your college of choice are more difficult and challenging but rightfully so.
Dorm Life There are two brand new dorms on campus, as well as plenty of previous dorms all filled with numerous fun activities. There is almost one event every day that is offered by the residence life staff if you have the time to participate.
Food and Dining The food and dining have decent choices. Currently you are unable to pay for Subway with your meal plan, and there is not a plethora of choices to chose where to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at. There are however numerous off-campus locations to eat at, but you would have to drive to get to a few of them.
What to do for fun The university is located near downtown Akron, which includes a few bars and clubs for students to go to on the weekends. The Akron Aeros play at the downtown baseball stadium as well if students wanted to attend a game there. You will meet a ton of new people and make new friends so I'm sure you will find a fun in some way.
Bang for the buck On wednesdays, Euro Gyro has $5.50 large 1 topping pizzas. There is an Aldi's grocery store located near campus that has very cheap grocery items compared to the Dave's Market and Giant Eagle locations near Akron.

Clubs and Activities There is a fabulous Recreation and Wellness center on campus to provide fitness programs for all ages, including intramural sports being offered for students to participate in.
Greek Life I do not participate in Greek Life but from speaking with other students on campus that are in greek life, they love everything about the sorority or fraternity they are in.
Campus Safety On campus safety is not a concern, as there is a plethora of law enforcement officers located all over campus. For off-campus, there are University Park police officers staffed to walk the streets of the houses that students live in off-campus. There is also a police escort program for those students that do not feel safe walking alone at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Akron has a state of the art campus with all the technology you could need at your disposal. The staff is very knowledgeable and are experts in their subject matter. I believe some of the older staff could be a little more helpful when explaining things instead of just assuming students know everything ahead of time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is a nice campus, but I worry about all the crime. I guess it is everywhere though. Most of my professors are pretty good, some are hard to understand because of their particular accents.
Am enjoying being here It is exciting to be on a campus while I am still in high school. I enjoy the freedom that you do not have in a K-12 school.
Bang for the buck I am using a public school scholarship right now, but when I check the costs for next year, it will not be too bad. I do not have to live on campus, so that helps out with the overall cost.
Tips for prospective students Be organized and know how to manage your time. I had to learn the campus before I went to my first class. You do not think the campus is large until you have a class at one end and your next class is at the other end of the campus.

Bang for the buck I think that Akron is worth it. I am already taking classes for my major and loving it. I live in a dorm and I find that it is worth the experience the first year. You meet new people and learn so much from it. You also has a student union where there things like free bowling and movie for the students. They also do some free events too. They are all great.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would have is if your going to live in a dorm definitely meet your new roommate. I would say at least twice. It would make it less awkward. I would have your parents meet each other on move in day.(my roommates parents wouldn't talk to mine. I would of like for them to know who they are if we had problems.) Another thing is get involved, I know everyone says it but do. I had little amount of friends until I went Greek. Trust me everyone thinks its like the movies but its not. I have 60 sister that would do anything for me and I would do the same. We all have this bond. The last thing find people in your classes. its helps, I text most of them for help and then you don't have to sit alone either.
Great for these types of students I really think Akron could be a place for anyone. There are so many different types of people. You just have to make the most out of your college experience but make sure you don't waste your time or money! Good Luck!
