    Am learning a lot

Not all of the learning you do is academic. Much of my first year was personal growth learning. Just be expected for both.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely looooove this school. I've taken classes at some other colleges during the summer when I was in high school, so I know what other colleges offer and how they work. UA just absolutely blows them all out of the water. The people are nice and friendly, the city's great, the campus is beautiful, and the programs are all so unbelievable. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

    Bang for the buck

UA tuition is going up, but I still think it's worth it. I wouldn't be going there if I didn't!

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely at least a dorm for the first year, especially if you're not from Tucson. You'll meet more people, get to know the campus better, and get more advantages than people who move there from out of state and have to worry about the commute, rent and utilities right off the bat. Do try to stay away from the larger dorms, unless you like to meet hundreds of people at once.

Try everything once. You only go through college once, and a little experimentation--both academically and socially--is the only way to fully take advantage of it all.

Great for these types of students

Definitely be willing to work. You could just do what you did in high school, and it's probable that you'll do well--but if you really work your butt off, UA has some of the most cutting-edge research facilities, laboratories, and programs in the country, and hard work is the only way you get in those.

There are so many classes to take and lots of majors offered. That's what I like about it being a big school. I got to start with the introductory courses in my major right away and even took the honors strand (open to everyone) so I had a great professor and we went a little faster and more in depth.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a long ways from home and I'm more homesick than I thought I would be, but the people are very nice and I've made lots of friends especially in class everyone wants a study group so introduce yourself before the professor starts. I found my first week that a simple introduction in a science lecture can led to quick friendships especially if in your major you'll see them a lot!

    Bang for the buck

I'm out of state, but their out of state scholarship makes it almost in state price and it's a lot cheaper than private schools! The private school I was looking at gave me a larger scholarship and was still about 20 thousand more a year. Also they sent their undergraduates here for research! Including my major they have many programs that are ranked very high in the country, I won't list them because I know they advertise them.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to apply from out of state, the out of state scholarship can take care of most or all of the difference between the two prices. Also live on campus the first semester and get a meal plan. There really are great food options on campus and it's a long way to the grocery store. Bikes help if you want to go off campus, but often get stolen especially if you're on campus it's cheaper to buy the bus ticket every once and a while. Don't bring a car traffic is crazy and parking is expensive, besides it's unnecessary everything's on campus.

Great for these types of students

Of course self-motivated, responsible adults like any college. Also social people, it's a big school so if you are afraid to get out there and make friends you may end up hiding in your room. Athletic people, sports events are huge (if you don't attend the games people think you're weird) and the new addition to the recreation center is amazing!

I have learned more this semester than I think I learned my senior year of high school. It is a different way to learn, just as can be expected from any college, but you get used to it after a while. It is less in-class teacher-to-student learning and more hands-on, actually doing projects and building things and doing experiments. The amount of time i spend in class is about 20% of the time I did in high school, but it is the out-of-class learning and projects that really have taught me so much just my first semester.

The U of A college campus is beautiful, its Arizona and miraculously they always keep their grass green. There is so much going on all the time, hundreds of clubs, a theater showing free movies weekly, comedy clubs, dancing classes, camping in the middle of the lawn, music, and lots of food. And I can't forget to mention the girls, beautiful sight, and for the girls out there come check out the studs playing frisbee on the lawn shirtless everyday. It is everything I could have imagined in a college experience.

    Bang for the buck

Of course college is expensive, and the U of A is no exceptions. The tuition is going up every year, but I think any good student can find themselves a scholarship or too that levels the playing field and it is so worth it. What you get for what a lot of people pay, especially out of state people is not that good, but when you can find a way to pay for at least most of that by being a good student, it is very much worth what you pay.

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT SKIP CLASSES OR PROCRASTINATE ON YOUR HOMEWORK. Unless you are some genius that knows literally everything, don't be a bad student or you will fail your classes. Teachers aren't nearly like the teachers in high school that will accept late work and give extra credit, their are no exceptions for college. But, college is a time for people to grow up and become responsible with everything they do so consider it a growing experience and enjoy it. I know I am.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student fits in here. Every class is different. Course material is the same but just like any school no two teachers are the same. A student can find any one of the multitude of learning styles found at the U of A.

There is so much to learn, too much it seems sometimes. I am a freshman and I took Bio and Chem at the same time it was very difficult.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying it here regardless if the classes are hard or not. Make sure you don't just drown yourself in the books, talk to people make new friends!

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive to go to college, finding used text books and living with family is cheap and you will have extra cash to spend!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take two sciences or a science and a math at the same time. It is a lot to take on especially if you plan on working. Don't procrastinate! College takes away from your sleeping time so do work before hand and eat a health meal to get you through your day!

Great for these types of students

Any student can attend the U of A. College won't be as easy as high school so be ready to keep yourself motivated and focused!

I almost never missed class last year. Class is educational, entertaining and difficult. Although some classes are of large proportions, the professors are always willing to give individual attention through office hours. If you study hard and make time for each of your classes than you should be fine!

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. Although U of A is in Tucson, campus is filled with grass and trees. A misconception is that Tucson is a bad place to live. Although there are some parts that might not seem appealing to all; there are extremely nice parts to the area. The students are all extremely friendly and out going.

    Bang for the buck

Budget cuts are going into effect but the administration is doing everything they can to keep from tuition raising. It is the highest priced university in Arizona but educationally it exceeds. If you are looking for the best education in Arizona than it is well worth the tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus first year. This is where you will meet some of your best friends and it is a awesome experience. Get involved in something that interest you! Go to athletic events! Come visit the campus in the Fall! This is some of the nicest weather and with football and school going to campus is in full swing! Summer campus tours are really hot and the campus may seem dead due to lack of people around campus.

Great for these types of students

Like warm weather, frat and sororities, friendly environment. Interested in health, astronomy, or business ( some of the top programs for those majors).

The U of A definitely has fantastic professors, but lecture classes are rough. If you're not used to being surrounded by 500+ people with laptops going on Facebook while you're trying to pay attention, then for certain classes you're going to have a lot of getting used to . Professors do have a lot of office hours though which I would highly recommend going to if you if you have trouble comprehending anything, they're extremely helpful.

    Am enjoying being here

Fantastic campus! It's always sunny, filled with palm trees, and crisp green grass. There's plenty of things to do right on campus, and if you're feeling like having a night out, then it's less than a 10min walk from the famous Tucson 4th avenue where you can always find something to do!

    Bang for the buck

Considering the well-rounded education the U of A provides, it's worth the tuition costs. It's a bit disappointing that tuition costs keep rising, but knowing that you're attending the most educationally exceeding college in Arizona makes it better.

    Tips for prospective students

Realize, you're no longer in high school. There's a lot more work and a lot less play. No longer are you forced to go to class, do homework, or do projects. You have so much more freedom which makes you HAVE TO start realizing what your priorities are. Beware it's really easy to get caught up in all this new found freedom.

Great for these types of students

~Optical science majors- BEST school for it in the nation!
~Research-type majors - UA has great researching facilities
~Any other major really, except journalism...I hear that program isn't very strong

The U of A has a unique general education outline that all students must journey through. Though there is an outline, there is such a variety of classes to choose from! Therefore, you have a say of what you want to learn more about during your college education. After finishing my freshman year I feel that I have attained a broad base of knowledge that I am able to apply to my life and others. You do not have to be a nerd to like going to class!

    Am enjoying being here

At the U of A, there is things going on and right off campus everyday and every weekend. It clearly is the most social campus out of the Arizona schools because it is large and centered. The student council floods the campus with concerts, games, and parties that are mostly free or cheap. It is extremely easy to make friends because everyone is energetic about having fun. I know that some of the people I have met this past year are going to be friends for life.

    Bang for the buck

The financial aid advisers really do help, even when you don't meet the mark with your grades. It is very affordable (like any AZ college) so there is quite a lot of people from out of state. Tutoring, computer help, and other services are free as a student. I am very impressed that whole college is open to me to use while attending school!

    Tips for prospective students

The best attribute that a college student can have is the ability to be able to balance work and play. Be active on and off campus to get the full college experience. There is so much the U of A has to offer. You want to leave college with both a strong degree and strong friendships, and of course, memories to chuckle about!

Great for these types of students

Students that like the sun and a large campus atmosphere would really enjoy the U of A. Poeple that live an active lifestyle and want to learn are also very welcome.

Tution rates are raising, and its raising a lot for nonresidents. Unless you have some nice scholarships, you are going to pay a lot.
The bookstore is pricy. Try to get books off amazon or through other students.

    Tips for prospective students

The dorms are generally good, but watch out for the larger ones. Those tends to have more of the partying/drinking/drugs.

Dont schedule your classes to have one or two hours between them. You wont get anything done, no matter your good intentions.

Classes do exist at 8 am, which means your finals will be at 8am.

Great for these types of students

    Willing to work hard.
If you are a nonresident, be ready to take classes and maintain a job. Tution went up from last year, and it's likely to happen again.

Coming from a college preparatory high school, I am versed in college level courses. Honestly, the learning here isn't sub par by any means. At the same time you can attend a public University in your own state and most likely obtain the same amount of knowledge. On another note, all of the teachers I had were accessible and helpful. There were many instances where teacher would go the extra mile to help a student. Give you an extra day for an assignment or let you revise one of your edits before you turn in the final paper. Personally when I was vested in the class I got a lot out of my major specific courses. The general requirements classes are less rigorous and thus easy to breeze through.

    Am enjoying being here

There is no place I personally enjoy more than this school. This is the most fun place I have ever been or lived. It is a great place to meet new people and create yourself as many new students do. As a minority, there may be some changes for those attending a primarily Caucasian school but the people ON CAMPUS are very accepting and inviting. Notice the emphasis on the word ON CAMPUS. I have had some run-ins with ignorant people off campus, but that will happen at any university to anyone.

    Bang for the buck

As an out of state student the tuition is incredibly high. In order to get the most bang for your buck, you must be completely invested in your school work. The books are overpriced just like every other university, the dorms are expensive as well. Life on campus is expensive. The expensive meal plan is not backed up by delicious nor healthy food. You will obtain a large amount of knowledge through your major specific courses. General education courses are simply in the way of the true learning. Teachers are dedicated and encouraging, this is where your money is doing the most work. I also wanted to leave home as many students do, but you should check your options before going away. It may not always end up not being the best option, but it is almost always the most expensive one. Very expensive to go here, but the cost of living in Tucson makes the cost of the school a little more forgiving.

    Tips for prospective students

Focus because there will be a large amount of distractions. You must take your time for your assignments as teachers are lenient in class but not on grading major assignments. Enjoy the moments of freedom you have, you will get rewarded with freedom if you efficiently deal with your school work. Pay close attention to class specific meeting times as a lot of the time they are subject to change with minimal notice. You must become an E-mailer, and a heavy amount of class content will be on the internet so check your account daily.

Great for these types of students

Focused students, who know when it is time for fun and when it is time for work. Students who enjoy hot weather. Students who enjoy being heavily involved in school activities and a big school spirit. Great for people who like the hometown feeling. Great for people who do not want to leave campus very often, seeing as there are always issues going on off campus.

All the classes you can chose from are quite interesting. Most of the professors really take the time to make sure you understand everything if you go to their office hours. Also, you learn a ton about yourself as a freshman living in the dorms, and you learn to grow up fast if you were always helped out by your parents.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE being here. It's hard being away from home, but I've met so many people who make me forget my homesickness. I joined a sorority which is my home away from home, and everyone has helped me a lot with classes, dorm living, friendship problems, the whole 10 yards.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is raising, but coming from California where budget cuts are terrible, and students can't get classes, Arizona is a dream come true. You are guaranteed English and Math classes, so you don't have to worry when registering for those. Also, living here is extremely cheap, so after freshman year, you can find apartments for almost any price and within a few miles of campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Really remember the saying: Social, School, Sleep. You only get two of the three, so which is it going to be? If you manage your time well, and do homework ahead of time, the weekends are relaxing, but if you procrastinate, it really gets you in the end. You're not in highschool anymore, so you really have to take control of your own learning now.

Great for these types of students

Social, outdoors loving, academic driven students.

This is my first year in college, but I had taken AP classes in high school. I was told by a friend that classes at UA are either as hard or easier than AP classes. I would say this is mostly true, however you do not have as much attention as you did in high school. It's time to work on those study skills!

    Am enjoying being here

UA is in Tucson, AZ where there really isn't much to do. If you don't have a car to take you farther into or out of the city, you are pretty much stuck with what you have at the University. This can be fun if you have many friends that can make anything fun. It seems like otherwise, the only thing there is to do is go to partys... BUT the campus is beautiful and the mountains surrounding the city are great for hiking and biking or whatever you please. The campus is also near Mexico-where many students go for a break-and the dunes. These are great for students with cars, but parking on campus is hard and expensive.

    Bang for the buck

Regarding tuition, if you are a resident of Arizona, the tuition is fine for the quality of education you recieve. But living in a dorm, as I am, it seems as if you pay a lot of money to live with a roommate in a smelly hall sharing bathrooms. Avoid the dorms and the expense they bring. Also the bookstore and the places to eat on campus are rather pricey for poor starving college students.

    Tips for prospective students

Think about what you will want to do in your free time and check that UA has that available.

Great for these types of students

The types of students that are going to college simply to get a degree. While there are opportunities to go deeper into study here, one may be better off elsewhere...

You really can't rate the school as a whole. You're going to have to take a look at the departments, classes and programs separately, but from what I've heard, it's all fairly good.

The school system is kind of silly, with the gen ed requirements, but I do think that all universities have a similar system for students to expand their horizons, so there's really not much to say. To be blunt, these gen eds don't really let students learn. Sometimes they're not interesting, and with scheduling conflicts, it's almost impossible to enroll in the class of your choice.

To be fair, I like that once you're in your selected department, it's much easier to learn because you're in a specialized field.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. I am an in-state student and was actually kind of disappointed at the prospect of having to remain in Arizona. However, UA gave me a very nice scholarship that convinced me to stay, and I haven't looked back since. It's a great community with caring faculty who really want their students to learn, and the people here are lax and super friendly.

    Bang for the buck

Let's be honest. Even though Arizona's tuition has increased dramatically over the past few years, it's still a pretty good school, and very cheap compared to other universities with similar programs. Living expenses in the Grand Canyon state are also lower compared to that of other states.

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun. Don't be too uptight about things. Sure, good grades are great, but there's so much more to college life than just A's. I highly recommend staying in the residence halls during the first year at least because it's an experience that you won't be able to get any other way, not even living in your own apartment. I've lived on campus for three years-- my first two were as a resident, and now I'm a resident assistant. You simply learn so much from living with like-minded people, since the UA has some great themed communities.

Great for these types of students

Self motivated and open-minded sorts of students. :)

Am currently in my second year, so some of the stuff is not quite relevant yet, but this is to be expected because there are still some GenEds (General education or unrelated to major classes) to take care of. In my major-oriented classes I am learning TONS of information that is all very important and useful to my current major.

    Am enjoying being here

Tucson is a fantastic place to be. It is sunny most days of the year, although during the summer it can get very hot (good thing there's no school besides summer session!). The winter/fall/spring are all pleasant and enjoyable and has many of those days where you step outside and are just a happy person because of the weather. As far as entertainment, the U of A's sports games are always fun to go to as well as the many clubs and memorable eateries located on 4th Avenue. And, for the gentlemen, the women are beautiful, so be sure and buy a jaw lock to keep it from dropping your first day on campus!

    Bang for the buck

I am an in-state student, so the tuition isn't quite as high as many other people will be paying. For what I pay for though, I get a fantastic education and really learn a lot. There are still some classes here and there that truly don't feel like college classes and are either too easy or not important/interesting in the slightest.

    Tips for prospective students

To future students, I would recommend a couple of things:
•If you're not from Arizona, be prepared for the heat. Buy plenty of light clothing to wear in the summer, and a light jacket for the winter. I personally wear basketball shorts year round and am comfortable even in the winter.
•Be prepared for anything when it comes to classes. Many of the classes will depend upon the teacher's style and requirements. The same course could just as easily be a class you sometimes don't remember you have, or the nightmare that has you working 2 hours a day on homework. If you are ready for either, you will succeed.
•Join clubs or organized sports. There are HUNDREDS of clubs and sports which you can participate in, and they are for all kinds of interests. The UA has a policy where you can even create your own club! Because of this, there are a wide variety to choose from and enjoy. They keep you active and give you a social foundation.
•Condense your schedule, and have it mid-morning to mid-afternoon. I currently do this, which is to say having my classes back to back and having them start around 9 or 10 and go until about 1 or 2. It is the most effective way to schedule. This way, you can get plenty of sleep, and still have a night to do things the day before class. When getting out at 2, you can complete your homework and have the rest of the day to yourself. It's a great stress relief and will keep you happy.
•Finally, get plenty of sleep and eat a good diet. These two things you might be thinking are only health related, but they're not. They are also school performance related. Getting plenty of sleep, which is 7-9 hours, is CRUCIAL. I went my first semester getting only about 6 hours of sleep, and I was always exhausted and couldn't focus. Eating healthy is the same deal. It helps your mind churn and keeps you happy. Many fear the freshman fifteen but with a solid eating plan and exercise I actually lost about 40 healthy pounds entering college!

Great for these types of students

The University of Arizona is great for:
    •People that can stand/enjoy heat
    •Those that dislike freezing winters
•Those that want a challenge but not Mission Impossible
•Those that enjoy the city life/can handle many people in Tucson and at the University.
•Basically anyone that finds his/her education important and central.

I am currently enrolled in the Honors program in UA, and I have done so many things this past year that I didn't think I wasn't expecting to learn from, but I did. Most of the professors that I've had so far have been really helpful. They are required to have office hours throughout the week, and they really encourage you to come by even if you don't need help. The tutoring centers (Think Tank) is open until 9pm every weekday, even on finals week! It's the best. All the tutors really know their stuff. Most of the tutors are students themselves, but may professors have tutoring hours there as well. There are also so many opportunities for research, even as a freshman without experience. I was accepted to do molecular biology research and I definitely gained experience from the lab. Honors student or not, you're sure to learn a lot by just being on campus and going to class. The honors status really is not worth that much because everyone gets almost the same perks (although early registration for classes is nice).

    Am enjoying being here

I stayed on campus my freshmen year in Yuma Hall. I loved it! It was such a great community. We had hall programs every week, and I got to know all my fellow residents. People are always so friendly. The entire school also teems with school spirit. I was never a big game-goer when I was in high school, but once I was in UA, I never missed a football and basketball game. There's always someone to go with too. Plus, if you're the busy type who has so much homework, know that people won't judge you if you go to the stadium or in the court with a backpack full of homework, You can jot down stuff during timeouts, and you'll see a couple people probably doing the same thing too. But game time IS game time. The students also have so many traditions that you pick up on your freshman year. You feel such a great sense of community with almost everyone in school.

    Bang for the buck

Arizona's economic condition is not helping the school keep its tuition low, but the school is definitely doing its best in keeping its tuition rates constant for its returning students. If you're from out-of-state, consider yourself lucky because although your tuition starts at a higher rate, tuition increases are less likely to affect you. As an out-of-state resident, I also got a great deal on the Arizona Excellence Scholarship. It helped decrease my tuition to a manageable amount, and I even got a MacBook Pro with it!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply for financial aid before March 1st! That's their priority deadline and the school can be really generous. I also recommend living on campus for at least your first year if you can afford it. It's a great way to meet friends and even study buddies. If you decide to enroll in the honors program, consider living in an Honors-only residence hall. They have great study rooms so you don't have to walk all the way to do the library to catch up with some quiet homework time. I also recommend getting a Zona Zoo pass, which is your ticket to all sporting events at home. Going to games is another great way to blow off steam during the school year. Join clubs too! Put your name on their mailing lists so you're always updated. If you can't find a club you like, make your own! It's really easy if you talk to the student association. They'll give you start-up money too.

Great for these types of students

People who want to major in:
    - Engineering (especially optics and aerospace)
    - Business
    - Pharmacy
    - Dance

You can find everything you need on campus, and these programs are the ones that UA is most recognized and awarded for.

There is so much to learn from the classes they have to offer in so many different areas of study. There are also so many clubs and activities offered that force you to learn even more about the school and other students. My entire freshmen year has been a learning experience from the UA. I have learned what it is like to be a part of an amazing group of students that not only cares about academics and shares many unique, but demonstrates an endless amount of school spirit.

The University of Arizona makes it incredibly easy and fun to get involved. They have so many clubs that you are sure to find one, even multiple clubs that share your interests. As tuition is growing at a fast rate, it is definitely more difficult to pay for college. However, I feel UA has so much to offer, that this school is worth the money. There are a lot of scholarships that help lower the cost of attending as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Get as involved as you can! Always go to class, even if you think you don't need to. Make as many friends as you can, especially if you're living in a residence hall. Living in a dorm is such an easy and great way to make friends. Also, the more involved you are, the easier it is to network and ask for help in classes! Also go to all the football games and events on campus, because it only adds to your experience which you must make the most of!

Great for these types of students

The University of Arizona is huge in Greek life, so if you are interested, you should definitely check this school out! Also, you must be a fan of the heat! :)

The University has some of the best teachers that I have ever experienced. Many just love to teach and show there Knowledge. One of the teachers whom i personally had swore to never teach off a powerpoint, but to hand write everything so that the material was always learned. A teacher who puts in effort to teach always rubs off well on his or her students. I have learned so much and wish to learn more as well.

I absolutely love being at the University of Arizona. The are so many activities to such as inter mural sports, hiking, biking, Greek life, clubs, parties, restaurants, and school sports events. There are a lot of fun and exciting things for everyone to part take in. The dorms are also wonderful, with new ones being built to make living on campus even better. I recommend living on campus at least once to meet people. Meeting people is very easy and essential the first year of college. Also, Off campus housing typically provides shuttles and great low payments to take living on ones own at an east pace.

    Bang for the buck

For the instate student there is not a better college to attend. The university has such and array of majors and minors that are well worth the price. The tuition, housing and board are all worth the amount and are very appropriate. Also there are many different scholarships offered making the bang for the buck even better.

    Tips for prospective students

If you love the out doors along with alot of other great activites in a steady nice climate year round then ARIZONA IS FOR YOU. The education is grand, the activites are endless, and the sun never goes away.

Great for these types of students

Study hard and all your hard work will pay off. Go that extra inch in everything because it will add miles to your education and overall success in life. For a great education and college experience join the wildcats in southern Arizona for you next major stepping stone into a well rounded successful future.

Not only do you learn academically, you learn in many other areas. Greek life, dorm life, and sports all have a great impact on learning and growing. You grow academically and intellectually here.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and the weather is wonderful. Being from out of state is not a big deal because people from all over come here. The sports events are so much fun and our teams are only supposed to getbetter. Every aspect of college life is great here. Tucson has a lot of interesting places to go see and if you are bored, Phoenix is just over an hour away.

    Bang for the buck

For how inexpensive it is, you get a great education. The scholarships awarded to in-state and out-of-state students are great. I get over half my tuition paid for and I'm from out of state!

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get a dorm on Highland. Unless you eat all the time, watch what meal plan you get because you can't downgrade! If you are interested in Greek Life, go for it! It's huge here and so much fun! Get you Zona Zoo pass so you can go to the football and basketball games, they are a blast.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student. It is a very diverse campus.

Some of the general education classes can be overcrowded and difficult to stay awake in. Make sure to pick courses that interest you and make sure to read reviews on the professors and course descriptions. The bigger classes tend to make you feel lost. Try and stick to smaller classes to receive information at your own pace.

    Am enjoying being here

Absolutely gorgeous campus. Lovely grassy areas that are perfect for a little picnic lunch. Beautiful sculptures all throughout the campus and there are lovely areas that are well shaded and perfect for mini power naps. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous, especially the older ones. A nice walk down the mall (long grass strip at the center of campus) can be very relaxing after a long days work.

    Bang for the buck

The University is going through tough times right now due to the budget cuts but you can see the tremendous effort that is being put into the students as well as the university.

    Tips for prospective students

College is a big punch in the face! Haha Be prepared for a lot of hard work and studying. It is not all about partying and having fun. You're going to have to sacrifice going out with friends for school work a lot of the time. If you wish to be successful time management and organization is key.

Great for these types of students

If you are outgoing and like to meet a lot of new people from other realms of the world, this is the school for you. Mostly everyone on campus is really friendly, however, since the school maintains a higher population of students, it may be hard to create friendships in and outside of class. It really is up to you :)

Even though this school is going through some tough times, I haven't noticed any cutback in the amount I'm learning. Every professor I've had so far is amazing! I might even say I've learned more in one year here than all four years of high school.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is great. Some of the classrooms are kind of stuck in the past, but the atmosphere is still great. I love going to the student union for lunch or a break. Also, exploring the campus is great fun. There are some strange places to find in the nooks-and-cranny's of this campus.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universities it's a decent price for tuition. The only problem is the tuition increase recently caused by state budget cuts. Not a big deal though.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and don't forget to send in ALL your transcripts. Also, when you get accepted, don't give up while registering for classes. It can be a hassle to get the right classes, but check everyday and eventually you will get the class you're after.

Great for these types of students

University of Arizona is a decent school with many below average students. It can be hard to really make something of your classes when no one else around you cares to.

The University of Arizona is full of classes and opportunities that not only help you academically but in life as well. The classes I have taken thus far have been interesting and given me lots of new knowledge to take in. The professors are diverse and unique, so there will certainly be an educator that can hold your interest. The UA offers opportunities for jobs, which has certainly helped me learn so much more. Examples include resume assistance, help with interview skills and job fairs. The UA not only prepares one for the academic world but he real world as well.

    Am enjoying being here

The UA campus is friendly and welcoming. Everywhere you go there is guaranteed to be someone showing off their WildCat pride! The dorms are a great way to experience U of A during your first year. Each dorm has its own environment and gives you the freedom you yearn for but at the same time giving you a at home feeling. There is always something going on during the week somewhere on campus. Whether it's a study abroad fair or Homecoming intramurals or a pick up ultimate Frisbee game, there is something that will capture your attention and give you even more happiness in your college experience.

    Bang for the buck

You will certainly get your bang for your buck at the UA. The campus offers many free services to students. These serivices include Medical, Technical, and Emotional. The Campus Health Center has a pharmacy inside which makes picking up prescriptions even easier. Feeling down? The UA offers many services that will give you the emotional help you need or even just a listening ear. Technology is advancing more every day and the UA is there to help with this ever changing transition. UA offers a wide range of technological resources that will assist you with whatever problems that arise. During semester my computer got a terrible computer virus and with one trip to the 24/7 computer help lab it was fixed! The campus also offers free on-campus wifi and anti-virus software for your PC.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come and get a tour of the UA. Our Student Ambassadors are legendary for the positive attitudes , plethora of UA knowledge and the ability to walk backwards without falling! The tour will definitely bring out the WildCat in you! Also check out your degree programs, see what they have to offer for classes and possible financial aid as well. Get your application done early so that applying for scholarships is even easier with your future school already decided and they have accepted you.

Great for these types of students

We are all proud and loud about our WildCat Pride so this school is perfect for the person who has a lot spirit and pride. The UA is academically challenging that will ultimately help you become the person you want to be. So if you are willing to put the hard work in your experience with the University of Arizona will be worth while! Love to talk and socialize? The UA has a diverse and large number of clubs and organizations that will give the social butterfly their fix. These range from Greek Life (Sororities and Fraternities) to Cultural clubs and Student Government. Ultimately, the University of Arizona is the type of school where you can get the education YOU want to receive.

My courses at UA have definitely required a lot of work and dedication, but the information has always been interesting.
My professors and teachers have been extremely helpful, and do want you to learn. I have also learned a lot from my classmates and those who are involved with the clubs I am in. Everyone has something to share.

I have made tons of new friends here. The people are great, and classes are a great place to meet new people and make helpful study groups. Working on campus is also great because you can meet other students and learn about their culture and where they're from.

Though tuition can be expensive, the university offers great classes and a variety of interesting clubs.

    Tips for prospective students

Research the classes the university has to offer. Pick classes that you are interested in because you will have a lot of work, so you better enjoy the information! Get involved! I encourage students to join at least one club.

If you pay attention in class, you will learn a great amount of information. The U of A has many diverse general education courses that you can enroll in which force you to learn about many different facets of life. Most freshman classes [gen eds] give insight to the majors the university offers so in case you are undecided, you are bound to find something you will fall in love with.

    Am enjoying being here

At first, college was a tough transition period for me. With such a large student body, it was fairly easy to find people that you click with socially. Overall its a great campus with many fun and exciting activities to take part in.

    Bang for the buck

This university is on the cheaper side, especially if you are an in-state resident. You get the education you pay for and it is definitely not overpriced. Tuition is raising each semester due to budget cuts, however, so be aware of that.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay in the dorms your first year. This is where you will meet a majority of the people you will know throughout your college years. Those I knew who did not do so regretted it immensely and were not as socially involved in the student population.

Great for these types of students

The Greek community here is huge, so if you are interested in fraternities and sororities, this is definitely a great school to attend. Also, if you love the heat, what better than a school in Arizona! The typical student is very laid back and cares more about the social aspect of school rather than the actual academics [at least the majority of the students I have come into contact with].

From conections at the U of A I recived an internship that has helped me grow and learn so much as a person right now I am running my own branch of a painting company that I started from scratch. The University gives such great oportunities like that to the students that attend.

    Bang for the buck

They are raising tuition however it is still worth the money the campus is beautiful and the professors are knowlagable.

    Tips for prospective students

Your first semester take a light class load of only general education credits because your first semester you want to get used to the campus and course work as well as have some fun. Also take classes that seem interesting because those are the classes you will enjoy more as well as work harder in.

    Am learning a lot

Yes, of course I am learning a lot. The professors cover a lot of material during lectures and the readings and homework add to it. In most classes, 4 out of 5, there is a lot to write and sometimes it might get overwhelming but my professors and TAs are always willing to make an appointment with me and answer my questions. So I feel very prepared for my exams.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here! Since I'm from a small school and I never really had large classes but its something that I was looking forward to. Even though there are a lot of students on campus I can always manage to find a nice quiet spot to read or do my homework. Which I always thought was rare at a school this big but its not.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely. I'm learning a lot here and I love my classes. The employees (professors, TAs, advisers) are really helpful. There are a lot of resources for students and places to just hang out. Compared to other schools, the tuition is not that much. Also, there are a lot of scholarships and grants out there (check out the UA website), so take advantage and it won't seem that expensive. I'm only taking out a $3,000 subsidized loan for the whole academic year. Not too bad in my opinion.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! It is really important because it helps you adjust to college life and you get to meet new people. Getting a job on campus is a great way to get involved. You don't really work that many hours a week but its enough to provide you with some extra cash. There are a lot of different places you can work like the Student Union, bookstores, offices, etc. I'm an office assistant and whenever I'm not doing anything I can do my homework, research, or read. Get involved within your major. Check out your major's website and see if they are looking for any research assistants or maybe they're hiring an office assistant.Talk to your advisers, they are there to help you. Do NOT avoid them. They will keep you on the right track and that way in four years you won't be worried about not having enough credits to graduate. Find out if your major has a career exploration class. You get to learn about all of the jobs available for people in that major and you also get to learn about the resources on campus. Get to know your professors and TAs. If you're busy during their office hours them email them and make an appointment. Ask them to clarify certain things from the lecture or maybe ask them to go over your paper with you to see if you're on the right track. And last but not least, SIT IN THE FRONT ROW or second row. Sit in the front because there are less distractions which is better for you, especially when your studying for your midterm.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are hard workers and are motivated. Also, students who are willing and want to attend a large school. There are a lot of students here; therefore, there are a lot of students in the classes (at least for the GenEd courses, upper-division courses, I'm not really sure). Great university, anyone will love it here!

My classes are tough but the teacher assistants helps a lot and there are other graduate students who are willing to help anyone understand the material. There is also the Think Tank, which is a tutoring center. The tutors are very helpful in helping you out with your homework and understanding the material. You can also take a gen-ed class. It is fun and you can learn about something new and foreign. The teachers are also amazing and funny. You can just talk to them about non-school related topics and hang out in their offices during their office hours.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many clubs to join and places to hang out. I personally love to go to the recreational center. The rec is new this year and has many new things to do. There is a store, a tutoring center, three gyms, a swimming pool, two volleyball courts outside, an exercising area with exercise machines, and a rock climbing wall. I love to hang out there. I also love going to the library because I am a nerd and feel at home there. It is a huge library like most colleges. There is also a mall, which is a stretch of grass near the student union. The student union has restaurants, a bookstore, a market store, a computer lab, and a game room. There is also University Blvd with many stores and restaurants to go to.

    Tips for prospective students

I say don't procrastinate! Seriously, it is sucks when the consequences bite you in the butt. Another tip to you (prospective student) is to visit the campus before you decide. It is better to have a feel of the environment here on campus than to take mine or others' word for it. We are all different and have many different views on comfort.

Great for these types of students

I think UofA is great for all types of students. This school has a great diversity among their students.

You'll learn so much here! Though the General Education classes can be boring depending on which one you take (like they will be anywhere!), you'll still learn a lot. Many of the GenEd classes offer study sessions and review sessions, either weekly or right before a test. If you feel like you're falling behind or not understanding something, professors and teacher's assistants always have office hours where you can go ask them questions. If all else fails, go to the Think Tank! The Think Tank is a program offered every day where students tutor other students in almost every subject. It's incredibly helpful, even if you're getting an A!

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love it here at the University of Arizona! I have met the most amazing people here, some from Arizona and some from out of state. As long as you get involved and make an effort to meet people, you'll love it here too. The weather is great, the campus is beautiful and Tucson has so much to offer. What's not to love?

    Bang for the buck

Yes, college is expensive. The University of Arizona is fantastic and has so much to offer! The weather is great no matter where you're from; in the summer, early fall and late spring it's warm, and in the winter it's cools down. There's rarely any snow, but Mt. Lemon is very close and is a great place to venture off to on the weekends! Also, you'll learn so much while you're here. UA has wonderful research labs and state-of-the-art technology. There are so many opportunities to get involved, socially and academically!

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely try to live in a dorm your freshman year! Although people say it's dirty and claustrophobic, it really isn't. It's all about what you make of it! However, you definitely want to try and research the dorms on the U of A website before you choose them. Think about location, size, and HOW OLD the dorm is. It's true; many of these dorms are over thirty years old! The dorm I'm living in now is under five years old and it's amazing. By living in a dorm, you get the advantage of living on campus and meeting so many new people!

Great for these types of students

Any type of student will fit in at the University of Arizona! The variety of programs offered here will keep anyone busy and entertained. Just make sure you're focused and motivated! Some of the highlights and popular things on campus are Greek Life, research facilities, health and pre-med majors, and astronomy.

Great for these types of students

Get set for a jam packed school year with football games, zona zoo, and amazing union food. Don't be danted by the harder classes. Try them out and you'll do better then you think. Make sure you're ready for school spirit because UA is all about that. Go CATS!

Among sweltering temperatures, gorgeous Arizona sunsets, and rich Sonoran desert life you will find a congregation of hard-working, fun-seeking Wildcats. The University of Arizona campus has much to offer for students of various backgrounds. If you are considering a degree in any medical related field, the University of Arizona's research-laden atmosphere would be a highly conducive place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Although your newly acquired freedom is nice, make sure you retain responsibility and show up to classes; this is one big mistake I feel many freshman make.
There is a very useful Wildcat app for Apple products that will help you find your way around campus and the surrounding city. I'd highly recommend downloading it- it is free after all.
The University of Arizona boasts over 300 clubs so there is something out there for every Wildcat. Having friends with similar academic interests and hobbies will help you stay focused.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Arizona is a research university and you will find very dedicated professors, graduate teaching assistants, and students. Classes are no joke and showing up factors into your grade as well, so keep that in mind. While classes may be difficult, campus resources such as the Think Tank tutoring services and office hours of professors and T.A.'s are easily within reach.

    Dorm Life

Make sure you look into the dorms you are applying for! Each dorm is very different. Some are old and some are shining and new. Some are more spacious than others. Certain dorms are known for being packed with fraternity and sorority members. There is an honors student dorm as well. Cost is another important factor; this varies by dorm too. Find a dorm that will suit you best. No matter what though, remember that each dorm will have community programs and it's a great opportunity to make new friends.

    Food and Dining

One great thing about the University of Arizona is that there are a ton of places to eat on campus. The main student union offers Mexican food, coffee and pastries, bagels, a deli, salads and healthy eating, a cafeteria-style restaurant, a buffet with a menu that changes daily, and even a restaurant that serves three course meals. On top of this there is Papa John's, Burger King, Chik-fil-A, Panda Express, and Starbucks. If that's not enough there is an additional union, Park Student Union, where you can find a cafeteria, hot food line, and special food options like crepes.

    What to do for fun

Within walking distance from campus is Fourth Avenue, a very interesting street with many diverse shops and restaurants. There are three shopping malls relatively close. Sporting events are a big deal on campus, so a sports pass is one thing to consider buying. On the weekends it is not hard to find a party; but make sure you are responsible!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every fall there is an underwear run on campus. Participants donate their clothes at the beginning of the event and these are given to a local charity. Once all the runners are lined up, the breezy trek around campus in your underwear begins.

    Campus Safety

A neat feature of the Wildcat campus is a blue light safety system. If at any time you are in danger there are stations with blue lights located all over campus. Press one while continuing to the next and the university police will be alerted of your location. Average time to provide assistance is under a minute.

The University of Arizona is a great place to attend, especially for in-state students. This school is more oriented towards the sciences however, as the arts are underfunded. Overall, the teachers are wonderful and the community is welcoming.

    Tips for prospective students

Experience the unique opportunity of living on campus, in addition to getting involved.

    Academic Rigor

This is no place to slack off or you will see it reflected in your grades, however, difficulty changes with different majors.

    Dorm Life

Excellent and fun dorm life, I highly recommend it!

    Food and Dining

The selection of food on campus is slim, but surrounding the campus is a variety of options.

    What to do for fun

Tucson is a cultural city, however, if you are not 21 or over it can be quite boring.

    Bang for the buck

For in-state this University is a no brainer. However, I would not travel to attend the UA.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Visit University Blvd. for nightlife and fun.

Great for these types of students

In-state students that want a great education for less.

    Clubs and Activities

There are more clubs than you could ever need, even for activities that are not even available in Arizona!

    Greek Life

The University has many fraternities and sororities if you are interested in joining.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe, however, Tucson is not. If you plan on living off campus it is a lot more dangerous.

The University is a small community with each college/department forming into a tight-knit group. This is great for making friends, getting involved, and creating networks for after college. The location, Tucson, itself is quite and very diverse with interesting events happening all year long.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in activities on campus clubs or rec-sports. Meeting people with the same interests help you not drain yourself too much with school and.

    Academic Rigor

Review your notes from lecture. If they are math courses re-write them and practice the examples from lecture and any homework assigned. You can go over problems in the math book for extra help but essentially the teachers are going to have material straight from the lecture and homework just the numbers will be modified.

    Dorm Life

People are friendly they always have events and projects going for everyone to enjoy.

    Food and Dining

There are many fast-food restaurants as well as dine in locations most pretty close to campus. Tucson has pretty good Mexican food locations most are a little way farther from campus. Near campus you can get decent Thai, Indian, and Chinese food.

    What to do for fun

Rec-center on campus can offer fun classes for indoor and outdoor activities. Tucson has many events happening year round. The night life depends on what you are into some places down town have different styles of music certain nights including top ten and Salsa.

The UofA was an extremely intellectually stimulating school. The science programs here are rigorous and are very well taught. Tucson is a great environment for incoming college students.

    Tips for prospective students

Quite simply, any college student should prioritize every aspect of life. Show up to class and always be ready for the unexpected. Most importantly work hard, play hard. Balance is important.

    Academic Rigor

the UofA is most definitely rigorous. The UofA exceeds most other universities in business and sciences in particular.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are always fun especially for students who are away from home for the first time. There is always someone who has either taken your class or is in your class who can offer advice or help.

    Food and Dining

Tucson has the best Mexican food around! I've been California, Mississippi, and everywhere in between. I have never found such amazing Mexican food or even Mexican food that could compete to the Mexican food in Tucson.

    What to do for fun

I personally love to hike, and luckily there is beautiful mountains here in Tucson. Down town isn't very big, however, Tucson is most definitely a college town and there is always something going on.

    Bang for the buck

The UofA is an amazing school. Most students out of state would rather attend the schools in Arizona because its cheaper than their own in-state tuition. This is especially true with those from California.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is always a lot going on but my favorite tradition was the pep rallies on University blvd. UofA also has an awesome student section at all sport events called ZonaZoo. ZonaZoo is the best place for students to show their wildcat pride.

Great for these types of students

Students who are looking to receive a great education (especially in sciences), have a blast enjoying the student life, and who just want to be in a completely unique environment.

    Clubs and Activities

The best way to get the full college experience is to be involved. ZonaZoo, Black'n'Blue (dance team), student council, as well as many more. There is literally a club or activity for every hobby and interest.

    Greek Life

Of course Greek Life is always a blast. I was not a part of greek life but all my friends were. I enjoyed spending time with them, however, it costs a lot of money and time I was unable to commit myself to give either. My grades were very important, and i could not work, go to school and afford to be a participant of Greek life. I don't feel as if that is the only way to fully experience what the UofA has to offer.

    Campus Safety

There is campus police at every corner. If there is not one where you're located the entire campus has emergency buttons every 200ft or so, and a police man will show up within seconds. I personally have never felt threatened in any way and i took some classes late in the evening.

The UofA offers a lot to it's students, but only if they are willing to look for the opportunities. Most of the student body is involved in Greek life, and a lot of kids are from SoCal. Live close to campus, otherwise parking is a headache, and expensive.

    Tips for prospective students

Unless you aren't living on campus, or working, you really don't need a car. A lot of students ride bikes, long boards, or skate boards.

Also, get involved early. If you are a freshman, you will feel more connected living on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I can only speak for the science majors, but the academic rigors are decently difficult. Use ratemyprofessor.com to check out teachers before you enroll (!!!) they can make or break your experience and grade. Math is very difficult at the UofA, and a lot of students instead take math at Pima Community College.

    Dorm Life

The best dorms are on highland, in the center of campus. I lived in Sky View, which was located two blocks south of campus. It was decent, the RA's were pretty cool. I wouldn't suggest living in a dorm as an upper classman, mostly just freshman live there.

    Food and Dining

The Union and Highland have decently good food and variety. If that food gets redundant, there are a bunch of restaurants and cafes on the west side of campus, right across the street.

    What to do for fun

There are always frat or sorority parties going on for anyone who likes that stuff. The rec is right on campus, and there is a pretty good bar scene right across the street from the U. 4th ave offers a lot to do also. The clubs are pretty extensive, and it's easy to get involved in whatever you like.

    Bang for the buck

Dorms are expensive, but as a freshman you will feel left out if you don't live there. Unless you decide to join a frat or sorority, expect to get creative on ways to make friends and have fun.

The University of Arizona is a very high-spirited school that is very serious about their academics and outstanding in everything else. We are proud to call ourselves Wildcats and aspire to demonstrate that throughout the entire nation. This college includes everything a student needs to be successful and prepared for not only their college experience, but, in the life that comes after graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

Organize your time wisely and get enough sleep. Also, take advantage of all the amazing opportunities to get involved on campus!

    What to do for fun

Take a stroll down University Blvd., join clubs, Greek life, events and concerts on the mall area, and much much more!

Our motto, Bear down! came from a former football player, John Button Salmon, who was on his death bed due to a bad accident only a couple weeks before the Wildcat's championship game. He told the coach to tell his teammates to Bear down! And so, that phrase has stuck ever since.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs and activities on the U of A campus. There are different Harry Potter clubs for the students who are complete fanatics of the series, orchestra and band clubs, and even a mariachi club. There are photography clubs and dance clubs. As far as activities go, they are endless! Spring fling is the biggest carnival in the nation and it is held right on this campus. There are also numerous concerts with famous artists including Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, etc.

    Greek Life

The great thing about the U of A is the different types of sororities and fraternities. We are home to national sororities such as Kappa Delta Chi and fraternities such as Omega Delta Phi. We also have different type of greek life which include business fraternities and cultural sororities and fraternities. This makes our campus a very diverse place to be.

    Campus Safety

Around the entire campus are light posts which shine with blue light. These posts also have panic buttons which summon the campus police at any time they are triggered. There is also a 24/7 campus police watch and many other services including Safe Ride which is a campus taxi service that provides students with transportation across campus at any time of the day and night for a guaranteed safe arrival.

Wilbur and Wilma Wildcat. The Wildcats' battle cry of Bear Down comes from the dying words of a popular student-athlete. It is a battle cry which came from somewhere and which means a lot to the University of Arizona.

Great for these types of students

Easy going people who are able to mix the academic with the social. Hopefully you enjoy wearing shorts, tank tops and sandals. Not as diverse as you might think - population mostly from AZ and CA.

    Clubs and Activities

All sorts of clubs to choose from either campus wide or major specific. I am the member of the Pre-Med Club among others. The Student Union is also a great resource and the movie theatre is excellent.

    Greek Life

Arizona has an abundance of Greek life, something like 22 Frats and 16 Sororities in the early 90's. Lots are affiliated. If you think you want to join definitely check it out. Many people find membership a blast.

    Campus Safety

I recommend the Cat Tran or the campus door to door transit service called Safe Ride. Generally walking or riding your bike is perfectly safe. Be careful of the UAPD, they are overzealous at distributing MIPs.

The University of Arizona is a school that offers a variety of wonderful majors--especially to the undecided. The campus is mostly built around social groups; there are multiple fraternities as well as sororities, over 500 clubs on campus (if there isn't a club you like, create your own), and the campus is filled with amazing history. The campus is huge and has a variety of students, clubs/activities, and a whole student body that is willing to take your considerations into hand.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for a future student is once you start attending the school, keep your mind open to everyone and everything as well as keeping your main focus on your grades; it is very easy to get caught up in the independent college student life and lose track of your values as well as your goals (which can happen at any university), but just make sure your classes come before partying --but still enjoy yourself.

    Academic Rigor

The University is strict when it comes to grades; if you fall below a 2.0 GPA in one of your semesters you're automatically on academic probation. If you choose to continue to not do your work in classes/get better grades then their next step is kicking you out. Also, this is definitely a school where the saying college is NOTHING like high school, comes into play; some of the instructors are ruthless.

    Dorm Life

There are definitely perks with living in the dorms; you live in a community with peers, they hold some pretty cool activities, you get to meet awesome people, and you have the amazing experience in general. On campus all of the dorms are great; some look great with great people, others don't look too amazing but the people are still cool, and there are different styles of dorms (single, double, triple, wings, quads--you share a bathroom with only three other people, etc.).

    Food and Dining

Around campus there's multiple places to eat; we have Papa John's, Panda Express, Burger King, On Deck Deli, Route 66, Highland Market (24/7), Bros Bagels, Pinkberry. We also have great places around campus to eat with amazingly delicious and healthy food options.

    What to do for fun

Majority of the students tend to party for fun, but there are other activities that non-partiers do; there is ALWAYS something happening on the Mall, Residence Life tends to have things going within the dorm halls, the rec is pretty great, and Gallagher Theater is a great place to go for cheap movies.

    Bang for the buck

We do have a lower tuition than other states located around us, and the U of A is a great place to be but if you don't enjoy it after your first year then they're great at understanding. Even though there are perks for attending U of A, there are some flaws; to start off, at some other schools you only have to attend one year to be considered a residence (in-state tuition) but here you have to attend two years, another flaw is Arizona's Board may be raising tuition.

Great for these types of students

U of A is great for students who are very social, open-minded, focused on academics, and who'd enjoy an environment where we have our mixed days of chill/laid-back as well as outgoing and loud.

    Clubs and Activities

There's over 500 clubs on campus and the rec has intramural sports as well as classes on cooking, pilates, yoga, Zumba, the list goes on.

    Greek Life

The University has the biggest Greek life in Arizona; they thrive on being diverse. We have multi-racial sororities/frats, historically African-American sororities/frats, sororities/frats located all across the U.S.

    Campus Safety

There are emergency boxes located all across campus, just in case you're walking alone at night, and UAPD is driving around all day/night.

There is a lot do to around campus, but finding your niche will be your responsibility. Many departments are very tough and will not budge while others may be more lenient. Overall, my college experience has been good.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved as quickly as you can. The longer you wait, the more likely you will feel like you will not fit in.

    Academic Rigor

The academic departments in math and sciences are very difficult. However, from my experience the social sciences and English departments are much nicer.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can go either way. There are always people who have a hard time living with others and those that don't. There are also many success stories of friends rooming together, but also some horror stories.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of different places to eat. The union is always crowded, but Park Student Union is a good option for a quieter place to eat. There are also many healthy options, but they are more expensive.

    What to do for fun

The quality of the teaching varies depending on the department and level of the classes, but there are a lot of very good teachers here.

The buildings and campus facilities are in excellent condition, many of them were added in the past ten years.

Easy access to food (not always cheap food, mind), ATMs, banks, groceries, books, buses, internet, common areas, and computer labs that any student can use for free are all over campus.

    Tips for prospective students

A bicycle or even a skateboard for that matter will make your life so much easier. Parking on campus can get very expensive and it's a big place.

The gen ed classes are HUGE lecture courses that are so easy that you might as well take them at a community college to save money; the upper division classes are much better and the teachers are able to give individual attention.

The campus has a lot of areas where you can jog, walk or play with your dog. Once someone even brought two giant fluffy rabbits to one of the grassy areas near the mall and student union, and they hopped around happily sniffing everybody who was chilling out there.

On the mall, every day from the months of April through October, you get cute boys playing frisbee in the afternoons with their shirts off.

There is a very welcoming Chicano/Hispanic studies department (in the Cesar Chavez building) that has regular days where the abuelas come in and talk to everyone and hug you and feed you lunch, even if you're just a lost art major who wandered over to recharge your laptop in the department lounge. Just total acceptance and love and free homemade food. They're awesome. This currently happens at least one Thursday a month, though the schedule may change between semesters.

You can't plagiarize and get away with it, the teachers have databases and programs where they can catch even something as subtle as a couple phrases. Besides, it would be a waste of time. The writing requirements for any class outside the English department and a good many in it are nothing; if you can write at high school level, you should be fine.

The art department is so open minded that in many cases their brains have fallen out. If you want to do whatever insane thing-- controversial performance art, sculptures of genitalia, painting with your feet (seriously someone in one of my figure drawing classes did this), whatever-- they will be intrigued and encourage you to pursue your unique vision. This can make critiques frustrating for more traditional artists, and I would recommend the Illustration program in Visual Communications over the Fine Arts program if you want to do realistic art that you can make a living selling commercially or on commissions rather than through the gallery system.

You can find comfy couches in the most unexpected places.

Get bottled energy drinks and bottled iced teas from the vending machines rather than the stores or restaurants, you end up paying up to 50 cents less that way.

You can stay in the art studios working overnight if you really have to. I've never done it but I know people who have.

    Academic Rigor

Depends entirely on what classes you take.

    Dorm Life

I have no idea, I've never lived in a dorm.

    Food and Dining

Quite a lot of food available throughout campus, including healthy stuff, vegetarian options, Asian, Mexican, and Indian food, fancyish gourmet stuff, sushi, and of course plenty of junk food and energy drinks and tea and coffee in every form imaginable. Can get pricy though.

    What to do for fun

See above reference to shirtless boys playing frisbee. Always fun to watch.

There's games and DDR machines under one of the student unions, and TV lounges. Probably more stuff elsewhere that I don't know about.

The bookstore is wonderful, big comfy chairs where you can just sit and read.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

All the doors in the painting studios have large signs on them that say KEEP THIS DOOR CLOSED. They are always left propped open, usually by the teacher. I heard they're going to start enforcing it for security reasons, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    Greek Life

Fraternities and sororities all over the place. Plenty for minorities as well as different fields of study. I'm not a member of any, but I know there's a lot of them, and the public rush week rituals seemed fairly humane, more silly than humiliating. (I don't know what they do in private.)

Actually, wait, I do know one thing they do in private: the fraternities are built specially so that from the doorway, a policeman cannot see the party occurring inside or any minors who may be drinking alcohol in there. They need a warrant or some sort of emergency call to actually come in and investigate. So the likelihood that a party in a fraternity will get busted by the cops is very, very low.

    Campus Safety

Safe to walk around at night, good security.

    Tips for prospective students

Always attend class and take good notes. Try not to procrastinate and turn in all your homework. Homework can really help you boost your overall grade.

    Academic Rigor

    Dorm Life

Many people who live in your dorm are very nice. Pretty easy to be friends with your roommate. But sometimes you wont always agree with your roommate.

    Food and Dining

There is a variety of food to choose from. It has everything from greasy food to healthy food. The food price is regular price. You can get anything like a hamburger, pizza, salad, burritos, etc.

    What to do for fun

You can always go shopping at the mall, watch a movie at the theaters, workout at the gym or go dancing at a club.

I attended the UofA both for the high school summer program and during the regular college level. I LOVED it here. I did find that I prefer smaller class sizes, which are possible to find at here, but counselors will always be busy. The lifestyle and atmosphere are very laid back which goes perfectly with w=the weacher and layout of the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Always get things done ahead of time. Counselors are always busy and chances are there will be lots of paper work that you need everyone to sign.

    Food and Dining

There are so many options on campus, just off campus and in all of Tucson. On campus dining through your meal plan gives you lots of food for your money, so I usually stuck to that.

    What to do for fun

The Mall (grassy strip in the middle of the campus) is always bustling with activity. You can play a pick up game of football or frizbee or watch a concert. There are always school sponsored events going on in the Gallagher theater, I suggest going to the the Charles Darwin Experience. It is comedy performance that goes on every week.

It is a lively campus full of students eager to learn. The campus is not too big with class sizes ranging from 800 people to 20. This school is a good choice!

    Tips for prospective students

Start checking into the programs you would like to get into, as well as what they require. If you are accepted and can start planning classes, choose times that are going to work for you. Also, always go to class and visit your professor's office hours!

    Academic Rigor

The classes here range in difficulty but from my experience they can all be conquered. If truly worried, look on ratemyprofessor.com. For the most part this advice comes in handy and is mostly true. As long as you go to class, listen, and get to know the teacher you should exceed.

    Dorm Life

There are a wide range of dorms to choose here at UA. With two new dorms and one just remodeled, there are plenty of nice once. I suggest looking online or asking current students for advice. As for how dorms are, not going to lie, they are noisy. But each are equipped with study rooms that come in handy.

    Food and Dining

There are many choices here on campus, with a wide range of variety. From pizza, panda express, salads, sandwiches, quesadillas, burgers, everything! If living on campus with a meal card, these choices get a little old after while.

    What to do for fun

There are so many fun things to do around campus. You can go to the baskeball and football games, shopping at Tucson or Park Place mall, shops on 4th Ave, and other activities on University St. There is never a dull night here at UA.

I love U of A, it is the best school in Arizona. My first year has been wonderful. I think it's a great research school and is best for science students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have decent grades in high school and do okay on your sat then they will most likely give you a scholarship, but find out the terms and conditions of your scholarship, and don't lose it, cause once you do it's really hard to get back. Also your teacher and TA's have office hours so take advantage of that.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is fairly tough especially if you are not used to studying and time management is very important. U of A has a lot of great teachers so take advantage of that and get to know your teacher.

Don't get behind, that's what happens to a lot of freshman and they end up dropping out.

    Dorm Life

It depends on what dorm you stay at:
pima to many girls (all girls dorm)

sky View: not on campus, but it's more like an apartment and no communal bathroom, you just share with your rookie.

árbol de la vida: The honors dorm: upside it's new and looks like a hotel, downside everyone's an honor student so everyone is usually studying, and a lot of them are antisocial.

navajo-pinal: fairly cheap, but it's right by the stadium and that might get annoying

Coronado: way to much people over 700, fights, usually that's were the partiers go.

I would suggest a smaller dorm, then you can meet new people, make friends, have fun, and can still study without being disturbed.

Highlight U of A Quidditch Tournament.

    Food and Dining

The Cellar in student union has great pea fries, sounds weird but it's good. There are good restaurants down university.
Most of the food places on campus are expensive for what you are buy, but Tucson has some good restaurants. ( It helps if you have a car.)

    What to do for fun

ZonaZoo it football and basketball season pass
The basketball games are far more fun in my opinion, but remember ZonaZoo does not guaranty you a spot, you have to get there early.

There is student union which is really big ( one of the largest in the country.)

4th st is an artsy place, lots of galleries and the works.

Park student Union, people play volleyball at night there, and PSU has good food.

    Bang for the buck

Think tank, take advantage of it really helpful for science majors, and most of the stuff is free.

You can also live off campus, it is much cheaper to live in student apartments and they have shuttles to school.

Also tuition is really low compared to other colleges. Instate around $10000
    and out of state $23000.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The day before finals begin it is called on the official calendars Reading Day but amongst students it's called Dead Day because no one is outside and campus is dead quiet, everyone is at the library. The only ones who call it reading day are freshmen who don't know better.

Great for these types of students

U of A is a great school for science and technology majors. It is not a party school, and school should be your number one priority. Keep in mind that the University is the heart of the school, so there is not much going on off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

UA is not a party school so most parties are house parties, and to go to those you should make friends that know where they are. You can meet people out side of your major, but have the same interest as you in clubs.

    Greek Life

U of A is a Greek campus, but don't feel obliged to join, you can still meet people without joining. That's were the parties are on campus, and if you rush you don't have to do the initiations if you don't feel comfortable doing it.

    Campus Safety

It's a really safe campus, it's an open campus. Safety features include Saferide, and UA police are always patrolling campus all the time. There is also CatTran bus that goes around campus, really helpful if you have to go to say the med school library or are just lazy.

The University is a wonderful school because of its diverse student body, strong academics, and recreational facilities. There are so many great tutoring and advising resources available for me whenever they need help with certain classes. Also, I have met a lot of students from different cultural backgrounds that have introduced me to new ideas and perspectives related to school.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to mentally prepare for college. If future students can organize their study time wisely the transition to college will not be as bad. Finally, apply for many scholarships from the scholarshipuniverse.arizona.edu website the university has available for prospective students

    Academic Rigor

The University of Arizona's teaching staff challenges you tremendously when you take their courses. In my experience, professors have issued heavy reading material to prepare for tests and writing assignments. Also, many of my professors have shown long power point presentations related to the class material.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at the University of Arizona is a wonderful yet sometimes overwhelming experience. I have successfully developed many friendships and study groups by living in a dorm. However, I have also experienced the inconvenience of living with a lot of people as we have to share bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, and lounging space.

    Food and Dining

The University of Arizona has an excellent food court called the Student Memorial Union. There I can choose from a variety of my favorites: All American, Chinese, Italian, even Mediterranean food! The lines are never long to order food and you can always find a table inside or outside near the beautiful grass lawns and gardens.

    What to do for fun

If you would like to have a great time at the university, I would recommend visiting the arcade room located underground near the food cart. If you would like to break a sweat the Student Recreation Center serves as a gigantic gym filled with plenty of weight lifting equipment, volley ball courts, a swimming pool, dancing gym, etc. For a night on the tine University Boulevard is a small strip many visit to shop at the boutiques, listen to live music, and grab a bite to eat.

The university provides a fantastic environment for the excited learner. Study gatherings are always available and students are very focused on education. The university as a whole is a productive work area and students are pressured to be the best they can.

    Tips for prospective students

The University of Arizona is truly a fantastic place to learn and professors seem to be willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Although effort is needed, accomplishments with always be in the future while working toward positive educational goals.

    Academic Rigor

The university offers very difficult courses, however, attending office hours and tutoring sessions will allow a student to succeed in the classroom.

    Dorm Life

Many dorms on the campus have a very close-knit, family-like structure and feel to them. Many of the dorm assistants take the time to get to know everyone. Although meal-plan is not included in cost and rates can be pricey nothing beats the campus experience that can be provided with dorms on campus.

    Food and Dining

The food court menu seems to get old fast. The food is pricey and not always that good. There are a few places on campus that provide decent service along with an appetizing plate of food, however, it costs about $12 a meal and on a college budget that becomes hard to afford.

    What to do for fun

There always seems to be an event taking place on any given day at the campus. The most entertaining thing is to go for a walk around the campus during lunch time, there is usually some sort of band or event taking place on the main lawn, known as the mall.

    Bang for the buck

At the university the money put in is well spent despite how much it may actually be. A real college experience is provided and the wide range of classes make it simple to pick out a course of interest. There is much to learn and this campus gives opportunities to learn as much as possible which, in the end, is worth the extra dollar.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The main location on campus is the Student Union Memorial Center, where events are held and the food court is located. The building is modeled after the U.S.S. Arizona that unfortunately went underwater during Pearl Harbor. Interesting enough, the building actually looks like a ship!

Great for these types of students

The campus is a great place for students that want to be focused on education without being locked in a room every Friday evening. There are many places located on campus to take study breaks with friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs at the University of Arizona. All become involved on campus at some point in the school year and all seem to have a great purpose, whether it be helping young teens stay away from drugs, feeding the less fortunate, or engaging in physical fitness. There is a club for everyone.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life on campus is a great way to meet new friends and now that there are GPA requirements for many groups the Greek Life has ensured that it's not all about the popularity and parties, despite the popularity and parties that accompany the Greek Life.

    Campus Safety

The campus feels like a very safe place. There are campus police officers that patrol the dorms and the campus during all hours of the day and there are emergency buttons installed at a variety of street corners on campus. During the night there is also free transportation provided for students having to walk long distances or alone.

At the U of A, you will meet so many people form all over and even from different countries. The one thing about the U of A is that not everyone is the same, even though the population is Caucasian. You will learn something new everyday about people. You become more social especially if you live in the dorms with someone you never met before. It might seem scary, but come on you and your new roomie might just become besties!

Pac 12!!!! Since the U of A is a Pac 12 school, that means the football and basketball games are crazy especially if you're in Zona Zoo, which is the student section. Besides the sports conference being insane, the campus is beautiful, yes it does get hot, but you will get used to it by the 2nd week. The people here are nice, even the instructors. As a music performance major, I get very close attention from my professors as well as lots of direct interaction and hands on experience. Because of this connection, I feel like I personally have learned quite a bit so far. In my gen ed classes, the professors for the most part are very informative and have great reputations, which are great qualities in a teacher.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. My favorite part of the campus itself is the Student Union, which is one of the largest in the entire country. The restaurants and fast food are wonderful and easily accessible whenever you want (within reason of course). The Rec center is awesome and great for working out in your free time and the lounges are relaxing and perfect positions. As far as the classes go, they are pretty awesome for the most part. There hasn't been a class yet that I've hated and I've enjoyed being here very much.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is alright. What is not worth the money in my opinion is the housing and the big meal plans. I live off campus because the dorms (especially the Honors dorms) were more money than I wished to pay. Because I am off campus, I can get my own food outside very often, so a meal plan is not too important for me.

    Tips for prospective students

The classes and environment are great. As a tip, I would just say to be aware of the money issues that accompany the dorms and the meal plans.

Great for these types of students

This is definitely a great place for students looking for a big campus and a crowded university environment. Although the student faculty ratio is alright, the campus is still very busy, crowded, and bustling all the time, which is what I love.

The academic environment at the University of Arizona has really helped me not only learn, but also grow as a student. I, like most freshman, signed up for mostly general education courses and only one major specific course. Before school started I couldn’t wait to get these classes out of the way so that I could move on to my astronomy and physics courses, where I figured the real education would take place. To my surprise the professors made subjects that I thought would be dull and easy, challenging and engaging. Early in the year I was studying to get high marks, but after I realized that refining my prose for English class, and studying efficient markets theory in economics class was helping me write better papers in all my classes, and providing me with practical investment information respectively, I began to develop a minor passion for the courses I was taking. Before I became passionate about the subjects I completed the assigned readings, learned what I needed to for the tests, spent a fair amount of time on my papers and did nothing more for the subjects. Once my professors had ignited the flame of curiosity within me I found myself watching French films in my leisure time, joining a group of students to visit the Biosphere II to learn more about the changing climate, and reading unassigned sections of my calculus book. The teachers here have a wonderful ability to teach and to assist students in their studies, but their most useful and most astounding traits are their abilities to inspire students to take learning into their own hands, and to explore topics that are left uncharted from the classes. Because of this I have learned more this year than I would have ever expected.

    Am enjoying being here

The University of Arizona’s diversity really helps give each student countless opportunities to enjoy their college experience. As a Tucson native I was familiar with the University of Arizona campus, and assumed that I knew just about everything there was to know about the school even before my first day. Again the university proved me wrong (as it often does). I had no idea how many different activities, communities, and groups there were, or how self contained the school was. When club fair came around I was surprised to see the mall packed with club after club, and unlike high school they were clubs that I had never seen before, or even thought of, and, of course, I had to join a few. To my surprise there was a martial arts tricking/acrobatics club called UA Tricks. This was one niche that I most certainly fit in to, as I had actually started a similar club in my high school, but was pretty disappointed with our single digit membership. This club was packed with people, and because of that we had access to high quality trampolines, gyms, and equipment, that I could have only dreamed about last year.
The clubs aren’t the only enjoyable aspects of the U of A. I quickly found that the campus was a microcosm, a city of its own. There was just about everything you needed, a high quality gym, futuristic dorms (seriously Arbol de la Vida is unbelievable), a movie theatre, cuisine from just about every country, nightly entertainment (so much so that I often have trouble deciding whether to see the improv-comedy group, or going to the socials in my dorm), and best of all this city is shared with young, friendly, idealistic, ambitious students that help to make every day memorable.

    Bang for the buck

I received a full academic scholarship to the University of Arizona, as did many of my friends from high school, and the students I share the honors dorm with. The wildcat excellence scholarship is also provided to students, and it seems as though just about everyone gets it along with an iPad II (as I did), or a Macbook Pro. Scholarships aside the University of Arizona is by no means an expensive school, the out of state tuition is surprisingly low, and the instate tuition is so low that it is very difficult to tempt students from Arizona to go out of state. My dorm is expensive as it is brand new, but there are many different dorms with different pricing scales, and I believe that my dorm still has the most bang for its buck because with its study bridge, multiple conference rooms with high quality projectors for weekend review sessions (as well as horror movie marathons, and Mario Kart tournaments), countless study rooms, and onsite tutoring it seems as though no dorm can compare to mine. Some of my fellow Tucsonans decided to live at home for financial reasons, and it turns out that for many of them the University of Arizona is less expensive than the local community college.
As a science student I should make a point that despite the school’s low tuition we have excellent science resources including big time research grants (like recently received “largest grant ever” for the OSIRIS-Rex asteroid lander), big name scientists, large departments, and an incredible amount of opportunities for research. The university also provides free tutoring for low level courses at their Think Tanks, located all across campus. Arizona has just about everything a student could ask for at a reasonable price, which is more often than not, free.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the honors college. This is a big deal because honors students tend to get big scholarships from the university that allow instate students to go for almost nothing, and out of state students to attend for just over instate tuition. I would also highly recommend classes from many different topics first semester, as it is a great time to explore your passions and interests before it is too late to change majors. When choosing a dorm always choose from the newest few as these are the most modern, high quality, and have the best social scenes (without being overwhelmingly social/noisy). Take a good look at the majors because we have some pretty unique majors in highly interesting and technical fields like neuroscience and optical engineering, and even more interesting minors from astrobiology to sports management.

Great for these types of students

Science and engineering students. I often hear about the business department being very strong, but I know first hand that the University of Arizona is an excellent science school with great opportunities for research, difficult and engaging courses, highly specific minors, and they also help students with unique interests double major. I have also noticed that a good portion of the undergraduates (myself included) plan on going to graduate schools. They plan on going for not only math, business, law, and medicine, but also anthropology, english, and education, and they are always happy to provide new students with tips to stay on track if they plan on going to graduate school. This is a great place for ambitious students who are planning on going to college to learn, explore their interests, find themselves, and have a great time doing so.

In the beginning, there are classes where you may not be learning a whole lot because they are trying to weed out the weaker students. However, in the end what you learn is all related to your motivation. The kids that are learning a lot are there to learn. Those who aren't are there to have a good time.

    Am enjoying being here

Once you find a balance between work and play, you'll have a great time (especially if you get involved in intramural sports or clubs).

Any college these days is much to expensive in my opinion, and the U of A is no exception. It may be a good education, but its hard to afford even for financially stable households.

    Tips for prospective students

Become friends with the kids in your classes (especially the smart ones), because you can study with them before exams. If you have plans to study with someone its much harder to procrastinate.

Great for these types of students

The learning process involves more than just taking notes, attending lectures, and getting good grades. Most classes will be engaging, allowing you to speak your opinion and share previous knowledge from other courses, and even life experiences. This part of the learning process is really nice because you get to hear the voices and experiences of peers in your field of study; and not just quotes from a textbook. Guest speakers from the field or speakers who have experienced and witnessed historical moments, often present and engage a discussion with the students. The beauty of this process allowed me to see my peers as not just another student beside me, but an individual who is strong about what they are studying/working towards; whether it be the same goal or not. This collective discussion has often opened my thinking. As an undergraduate in the UA Bolton Guitar Studies program, I can think of a fine example. During Fall 2011, we had the Third International Tucson Guitar Festival, which showcased a number of master classes, performances, and discussions presented by famous performers and scholars in guitar such as the Assad Brothers and Mark Wilson. Mark Wilson is an expert and scholar in the field of 20th century music for the guitar. What he presented to the program one afternoon was incredible. He demonstrated how the guitar could be played like a piano, by literally tapping on the strings, along the neck of the guitar. During and after the lecture, my peers and myself were able to discuss and ask questions about this technique. I have encountered and have used this style of guitar before, but some of my peers haven't. So this allows us to discuss and share new ideas to one another.

    Am enjoying being here

I believe what I enjoy the most is the company of my peers and the friends I have made along the way. While this is a common part of going to college and that it is encouraged by the university to make life-long friends, it serves as a reminder; that you are not alone in this new, big environment. The school spirit from my peers is shown beyond just wearing the school colors, creativity at sports events (i.e. game-day outfits/shout outs at games), and various fairs/events such as Spring Fling. The school spirit also is reflected in the determination in academics, community service, and in the willingness to share and apply what we have learned with the world. Clearly in the guitar program, we have attracted doctoral candidates, graduate students, and undergraduates from all over to study here; the U.S.A., Mexico, Brazil, Chili, Norway, The Philippines, and more. Yet despite our differences from our cultures, our backgrounds, and our life experiences, the fact is we enjoy each others' company; comrade among each other. This is why I am enjoying it here. I feel welcomed and respected not just from the staff, but from the peers and the friends I have made along the way, creating memories that truly will last a lifetime.

    Bang for the buck

Unfortunately, we all are living under the same economic situation. Tuition has increased about double since I started back in 2008. Some departments are suffering in size, so the best thing I can tell for future students; is to make everything you do count, and worthwhile. Because you will be paying for a higher tuition, utilize every service, career fair, event, and question you have to further your education, in order to really seal and make your career happen/worthwhile. Thankfully we live in an age where the internet is everywhere on campus. Therefore, there is no excuse to not find a computer and take the time to research jobs, internships, study abroad programs, housing, and so forth. The bang for your buck really depends on the student's will to make a valued and strong effort in the items mentioned above and more.

    Tips for prospective students

Begin real world experiences freshman year. If you decide to double major or even pursue a dual degree, it will require more course work, but the opportunities are far greater. Take the time to explore your majors' departments. They will have information about programs such as study abroad, internships, and even jobs related to your major but if anything, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask them! Go to Meet your Major fairs, job fairs, career fairs, any fairs. A good hour or more of creating new, experienced contacts and relationships through these events not only opens up various possibilities to further your education, but to jump-start your career confidently. Work closely with your peers because you are not alone in finding ways to start your career. Surely there is something you or your peer doesn't know that would be mutually beneficial. Talk with advisors and professors. They know professors in your departments that are able to work with students outside of the classroom and give assistance and/or guidance for research projects. This builds relationships and these professors will give you good recognition when applying for graduate school and jobs. This will allow you to have outside experience for your career, allowing your outside work and recognition from professors to serve as proof under your belt. As you can see, academics alone do not necessarily cut it. You have to show that you're an active student outside the classroom, which shows you are open minded and willing to hear/experience new ideas. More often, projects and work that you do outside of the classroom will display that you are willing to be helpful towards your community versus not using what you have learned by bottling up your studies to yourself.

I am learning more than expected. I had no idea I would be thrown into my major course work so fast and am loving every minute of it. I enjoy learning and especially when it is in my field of study or just general liking.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beyond gorgeous and it is a wonderful place to study and chill. The two main buildings or reasons I chose UA over that other school was because of the Recreation Center and the Library. I visit both places often and the local Starbucks in the UA Bookstore.

    Bang for the buck

With the continuing rise is tuition, University of Arizona, I would say is fairly priced. It is an accredited school and the oldest in Arizona. The knowledge attained is worth every penny spent. The updated text books, residence living and course work are top notch, Eco-friendly and effective. Considering our food choices as well around and on campus at the Union, we have the best.

    Tips for prospective students

I am a Sociology major but I've heard many times that the math and science departments are horrible. My advice is try NOT to get a graduate student instructor in; science(chemistry, astronomy) or math (Statistics, Calculus). Over all I have had the BEST instructors except a General Education course for astronomy/ NATS. Have fun and enjoy every minute.

The University is a top tier reseach school and has access to many assets such as teachers, equipment, money and opportunnities that other smaller schools cannot compete with.

    Am enjoying being here

U of A sports, and clubs as well as other social activities are a blast and there is something for everyone to do here. Bear Down!

    Bang for the buck

It has the most bang for buck as a public school especially for instate students. But it is also cheap for out of state students in comparison to schools in California and any private university.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to attain as many transfer credits via AP tests, community college so that you can focus on your major and get GenEd requirements out of the way.

I am a freshman here this year and a lot of learning comes from finding groups to get involved in, making new friends whether you live off or on campus, and finding that weekly activity to unwind and have fun. The classroom teaches you, but you learn as you go!

    Am enjoying being here

I love the UA. I had a passion to go here since I was in the 8th grade and I love it! I have found so many amazing things to do on and off campus, the town right around UA is so much fun, the REC is amazing and you get a great workout in, plus I have a weekly free improv I go to with friends to relax and escape homework! It is all about what you make the experience, but UA is great with so many professors who work with you and help you along the way!

    Bang for the buck

I am completely dependent on scholarships and things like that to attend college. I definitely get the bang for my buck! I am getting a great college experience, great education, and having fun along the way!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early. Get scholarships to help by applying and being a good student. GET INVOLVED be it with friends, classes, extracurriculars, or even with work. Ask upper classmen for help/make friends with them. Be yourself, nothing more you need to do. DONT STRESS!!! Things will fall in place.

My classes here have taught me so much. The program I'm in has one of the best undergraduate programs available and all the classwork and extracurricular work I've done for my classes has taught me more than I can even speak of. For gen ed classes, using Rate My Professor has helped me find classes taught by professors that care. I love the variety of gen eds that are available because it means that you can always find a class about something you care about, so you know you'll want to learn more.

I love the Tucson environment. Living in the dorms is a great experience, and so is living off campus. There are a ton of student activities, many affiliated with the university, and many that are simply located on or very near campus. The fact that Tucson is basically a college town means that everything you really need is extremely close. There are so many ways to get involved with your residence hall, on-campus clubs, sporting events, and other extracurricular activities.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is going up, but I know from how my professors teach and what I personally and getting out of it that it is worth every dollar. If UA is really somewhere you want to go (and it should be), then you will be able to find a scholarship to pay for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to your classes and do your homework. It seems easy, but putting in a little bit of effort goes a long way--especially if you get to know your professors. Go to office hours and take advantage of the tutor program on campus if you need to, because there are so many resources geared to help students succeed that there is no reason you should fail.

Great for these types of students

This school is great if you love to socialize and get to know everyone in your dorm, but there are tons of ways to get involved with smaller groups and clubs too. Sporting events are huge and there is a ton of school spirit. And UA is definitely a great school if you want to work hard to excel and are highly self-motivated.

The U of A is a great place to furthur your education! The atmosphere is just right for studying with great quite study areas and meeting rooms. Professors and teacher's assistants will always make time for JUST you if you are struggling which is a great help when Calculus is kicking your butt. The range of majors is great from hands on medical experience to Film and television. All the programs the U of A specializes in are absolutely amazing and will definitely give the skills to get a good job after graduation, even in this bad economy. The range of GenEd classes is awesome, and I was able to find enjoyable options for all 9 classes i needed - from nutrition to sex/romance and eroticism!

    Am enjoying being here

I love UA! It's big enough that no one pays attention to you personally just walking around which means no one judges you! I joined a club called Camp Wildcat, and I felt immediatly accepted and loved. No one ever puts me down and I made instant friends for life. My Bi-roomate joined the LGBT society and loves being around others like her. I am also in CineCats, a club that makes movies, and I am getting the best hands on experience in film-making I could ever get before being an upperclassman! The dining choices are great, and even if you get tired of the 15 plus restaurants the UA is surrounded by tons of other restaurants! You cn easily walk anywhere on campus, or fly around on your bike.

    Bang for the buck

Like any college, it's expensive, not gunna lie. In state tuition cuts you about $8,000 plus books and living expenses and food, and out of state is like $15k or more a year. The dorms are all very convenient though, but it is much cheaper to live off campus as soon as you can! Parking is ridiculously expensive and scarce, be warned. Meal plans in theory save you money, but they cost quite a bit, so unless you are a bottomless pit or a major athlete, getting a high priced plan with the biggest savings might be money down the drain later.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into off campus housing that is close enough to bike, or provides a shuttle to and from school. This will save you TONS on food and parking and general living cost.
Join or attend as many club meetings as you can as a freshman and choose to stick with 1 or 2, it helps you network and make friends.
Weigh your options for becoming an honors student if applicable - it can make your life harder or easier depending on how good your work ethic is.
Being undeclared is not a bad thing - you can always get general education classes out of the way while you explore possible fields.
DONT GET A MEAL PLAN RIGHT AWAY. Get a commuter plan and figure out how much a week you will be spending on campus - THEN buy a big expensive meal plan for actual savings.
Good luck! Everyone at the UA is very friendly, and anyone will answer your questions, even when you are lost the very first day.

Great for these types of students

Business students - Eller college, the UA's business school is amazing, tough but amazing. Medical students - since there are many opportunites to work at University Medical Center located basically right next to campus. Science students - the UA has wonderful chem and bio programs with state of the art equipment and great labs. Sports fan - ZonaZoo passes allow students to go to any game for flat fees and the UA has tons of intermurals, which are small sport teams played just for fun(we even have an ultimate frisbee division). Even the partiers and those who intend to join Greek Row the UA has a place for you too! Students that are into leadership roles and extra carriculars are also perfect, ASUA the student body governement is always accepting members and they can help you network for success or fill out as a resume!

There definitely is a lot more for students than at Pima Community College. There are TONS of clubs and opportunities. Some of the more interesting ones I've seen are Chinese archery club and The official sorority of agriculture majors at the U of A.

    Bang for the buck

I think you get more bang for the buck at Pima. The U of A isn't bad, its just more expensive for your 200 and below classes

There is so much to do on campus. Clubs, sports, even just every day things. Sometimes businesses come to the campus and sell little goods like jewelry or clothes and it's so nice to get the taste of life here in AZ. I love being a Wildcat at the football and basketball games, it's such a positive environment.

    Bang for the buck

The weather is incredible here. For a little Colorado girl, it's definitely worth the money to attend such a beautiful school.

    Tips for prospective students

For any college that you think you want to attend, just be mentally prepared for the increase in the workload. Even though classes can be fun and interesting, the professors are still trying to teach you something, and I think it's definitely harder than High School homework.

The professors I've had have been amazing--they're so passionate about the subjects they teach. Even if some classes are really large, professors will always give you the attention you need during office hours, so make use of them! Just be cautious about major science courses; there's hundreds of students in one lecture, and it can be hard to focus when you know you can get away with it. Avoid taking a laptop to class if you know you'll be distracted!
It's not all academic learning here though; a lot of the learning you gain helps you grow as a person. I feel like I've really expanded my potential while being here; I've matured both intellectually and personally.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the U of A! I've been here for a year and a half, and I've meet so many people. I've never been exposed to so much diversity before, coming from a US-Mexico bordertown. It reallys helps you gain a new perspective on things. The campus and Arizona weather are beautiful! The main attraction of Tucson is the U of A, so there's loads for students to do both on- and off-campus.

    Bang for the buck

The U of A has extremely helpful scholarships and financial aid programs. They have a program called Arizona Assurance, which completely covers tuition costs for student who are eligible (those with an income below a certain level). I have Arizona Assurance, as well as an academic scholarship, which has paid off my tuition, apartment rent, and has still given me money leftover to use for my own needs.

    Tips for prospective students

Like I mentioned before, be cautious about taking a laptop to class if you know you won't focus. Live on campus at least for your freshman year because you'll meet tons of new people! Get involved in clubs, intramural sports, or anything that catches your interest! There's something for everyone on campus, so be sure to check out the Center for Student Involvement and Learning--they have a list of every club and sport offered on campus. Join Orgsync, buy Zonazoo, just get out there! You'll learn alot about others as well as yourself.

Great for these types of students

Several of the programs offered are nationally ranked: The College of Pharmacy is ranked top 5 in the nation, the Speech and Hearing Pathology Program is ranked top 5 in the nation, and the Entrepreneurship program is ranked top 10 in the nation. There's a lot of other great programs, such as education, ecology, and business.
U of A has a lot to offer for any student.

I have learned a lot so far from the University of Arizona, it has also taught me a lot about how I look at myself and others around the world. The environment at the UA has taught me a lot and also the students who also go to UA... different experiences from all over the world and different parts of the United States. I am learning the things that I need and came here to do.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being at the University of Arizona. I have made really good friends through my two years being here so far. I have also got to know some of the students in my lecture and discussion classes. Classes are huge at times, but still meet new peoples all over.

    Bang for the buck

I am an In-State student at the UA, tuition is not so bad right now. But it is going up every year. But overall, the money and the time spend at the university... it's all worth it in the end.

    Tips for prospective students

Study for all your classes. Don't stress so much, just get your work all done on time. Make sure that you become best friends with your Teaching Assistance, they can help you with things you don't understand in class (that's what they get that credit hours for being a TA). I am currently a sophomore and I've already grown exponentially since high school. The University of Arizona has expanded my knowledge and skill base on so many levels in so many different areas. I've learned about things that I didn't even know I'd have an interest in!

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. Most people are friendly and helpful here. It also seems like there's always something going on, whether it's a campus-wide event or just movie night in your dorm. This is definitely a campus that thrives on friendliness and curiosity.

    Bang for the buck

If you've got the money or plenty of financial aid, then you'll be perfectly fine! Things are a little expensive here, but I believe it's definitely worth it for the quality of the education, housing, and all-around environment of the U of A.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions. You should also find something to be involved in. I don't recommend trying to do everything; you will want some time to yourself after class, clubs, work, and whatever else you may be doing 'round the clock. Don't spread yourself too thin, have fun, and remember that everyone here was once in your shoes.

Great for these types of students

Between all of the events and clubs, this school is great for students who were involved in high school. However, it is also beneficial for those who possibly weren't too interested in sports or clubs before college. It has something for everyone. There are people from all over the world and from all walks of life. As long as you can keep an open mind, ask a few questions, and accept that all people are different, then the University of Arizona may just be your cup of tea.

Every single one of my classes is tough so in the few days I've been here, I've already learned quite a bit. I've also learned stuff outside of classes as well. College is not just about receiving a higher education but it is also about learning about yourself and your surroundings

For the most part the people here are pretty friendly; however, even though my family is only a couple hours away, I miss them terribly.

    Bang for the buck

Of course college is expensive, but the UA offers a great education, the best in Arizona apparently. The cost of books is pretty pricy though and some books are only sold by the bookstore.

The first year of college is always the most challenging, but definitely the most rewarding because you grow so much. Of course there is a lot information to learn from your classes, but be prepared for the life lessons you'll learn outside of them. Don't be afraid to step out and embrace opportunities to grow as a person. You won't even recognize your old self by the end of the year!

I love the U of A! Honestly, when I started going I wasn't incredibly thrilled about being there because I was so undecided about where I had wanted to go. Who knew that my indecision would lead to the best decision? It turned out to be the best place for me. Some of the bigger benefits of going to a large university is that there are so many people to meet and things to get involved in. You really do discover yourself in college and U of A is one of the best places to do that.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is rising and if your staying on campus the dorms are pretty expensive. If you don't need a meal plan, don't waste the extra money. And if you do, carefully calculate how much you eat now because any extra money doesn't all come back to you at the end of the year. All in all, U of A has quality education. If your willing to pay, your going to get what you paid for there.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on campus the first year. It really helps you get acclimated to campus life and provides opportunities to meet new people. Go to class...sounds like a no brainier but really, just go. It makes all the difference. It's big school but don't let that intimidate you--just means there's more opportunities there.

Great for these types of students

You like hot weather? Come to U of A! You like small towns? Come to Tucson! You like attending sports games? Come here! Looking for opportunities in research? COME HERE! U of A is a beautiful campus with spirited students. There's not a lot to do in Tucson, but you're here for school anyways right? The classes at the University of Arizona are excellent. That depends, however, on what teachers you get and what classes you take. Certain general education classes are great learning tools. My advice is to choose a general education class that you are interested in; otherwise, you won't have a very good learning experience.

    Am enjoying being here

The social life at the University of Arizona is great. It actually exceeds great. There are so many people to meet, and clubs/organizations to join. The Arizona weather during the fall and spring are unexpected but nonetheless not a terrible experience. If you find the right crowd-- or crowd that has similar interests and disinterests-- then you are set.

    Bang for the buck

The money is worth the experience. When it comes to education, it is definitely a great way to spend the money; it is education at its finest (especially for business). When it comes to a social life, you have multiple clubs, organizations, sororities, and fraternities to join; don't be afraid to leave your comfort zone.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on coming to the University of Arizona, know what you want to do; or atleast have an idea of what you want to do in your future. Join a handful of clubs and organizations as that will help you get settled into the college life faster than if you did not join anything. Most of all, be focused. The University of Arizona social life can be distracting from your studies, so be prepared to focus much of your time on your studies.

Great for these types of students

If you don't mind the heat, love to have a good time, love an education, or being at a big school then this school is a great fit for you.

I've visited the U of A multiple times, and have taken multiple tours. Each time I have been deeply impressed with their study and progress in all forms of science.

    Will enjoy being here

While I enjoy the U of A's curriculum, I dislike it's location: Arizona.

    Bang for the buck

The U of A has many scholarships, so for students who have put the effort into their work, it's definitely worth the money; especially if you live in state.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning to go to the U of A, the dorm rooms don't get cleaned on week ends (when people throw up in them). I suggest renting a house down town, and living with roommates who will pay you rent. This way you don't need a vomit covered bathroom, you will be able to choose your roommates, you will have more space, and you might even spend less than you would in a dorm.

Great for these types of students

The U of A is fantastic for scientists, medical students, people who don't want to go to school in a small town or huge city, in state kids who don't like Pima Community College (though it's better than the U of A and you spend less), and people who didn't get into any other college.

    Did learn a lot

I graduated from UofA in May 2011 as a double major in mathematics (with an education option) and Africana Studies. I learned a tremendous amount by being at UofA. Most of the professors are great, however, I do advise looking up professor ratings on the UofA website just to get an idea of which professors have the best reviews from students. These really helped me throughout my four years there and were pretty accurate as far as the critiques. The secondary mathematics education program is great! The classes were interesting and truly prepared me to be a math teacher.

    Did enjoy being here

I enjoyed the school and the college experience. There are many on-campus events going on and lots of organizations to join. I'm not much of a social butterfly so joining organizations was a way for me to meet new people and have some fun, especially during my freshman and sophomore years as I started school. Definitely check out orgsync to check out the various types of organizations at the UofA. I especially recommend the cultural organizations. They have many mentoring, tutoring and freshman programs to help new students.

    Bang for the buck

The school was definitely worth the money. The courses were very helpful and applicable to my career asirations, the campus is beautiful, there are many things to do and many places to eat on-campus. It's worth the money. Although tuition rose every year I was there I paid in-state tuition so the bill was not too high. It's the cost of living that you definitely want to account for and pay for with scholarships. However, one thing I did not appreciate was the fact that my UA President's Award of Excellence Award, a tuition scholarship, did not increase as the UofA tuition increased. I have seen that other schools have policies where tuition scholarships do increase as tuition increases at the school. I was quite disappointed in this.

    Tips for prospective students

During my four years at UofA I seemed to have an issue with my financial aid money every single year. This is not an exaggeration. Always keep records and keep track of all the scholarship money you are receiving. One year I almost did not receive my scholarship check because the University misplaced it. Keep up with your money!!! Also if you receive scholarship money that places you above the standard cost of attendance that the school has posted (as I did) you must fill out a Cost of Attendance Budget Re-evaluation form. If you are getting scholarship money turn this in during the start of the semester. Keep a copy of this as well. Also if you do any loan forgiveness programs (such as the TEACH Grant or NOYCE Scholars Program) keep copies of all paperwork and remember to complete your exit counseling your last year and agreement to serve every year.

As far as living on campus or off campus...I happend to live off campus all four years, and I stayed in the same studio apartment all four years I was in Tucson. The apartment complex is called College Place and it is less than 2 miles away from campus. It is fully furnished (with a flat screen tv I might add) and full kitchen and fridge. The complex is for students only and has a basketball court, sand volleyball court, a cafe, a bar and lounge and a shuttle that takes you to campus, to major events and to the store on Saturdays. It's a great deal. I know the rent went up but if you have the money or a roommate it's worth it. I loved it there. It was my home away from home. The staff is nice and very helpful.

Also keep track of your classes and credits. If you have college credits before you enter college and you are told they won't transfer meet with your academic advisor and see if they can get them to transfer. My academic advisor was great at helping me out with that type of issue.

Great for these types of students

UofA is great for any type of students. It's in a big city with a small town feel and a beautiful campus environment. If you love sports (Go UA Basketball!!), you'll love going to the games and sitting in the ZonaZoo section. I'm the type of person who studies hard and does not go out much but I loved my time there. This school is great for everyone...the partier, the brainiac, the introvert, the athlete, or the social butterfly. You'll love it!

    Am learning a lot

I am learning so many new and different things at the University of Arizona that I never knew before. I've learned about Democracy, Ancient Greece, Politics, Weather, Economics, Myths, and the Stars in just my first year alone. I can't wait to learn next year.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here. We have an amazing football team, a pick-up Quidditch team, and so many other amazing things. I made so many new friends. I love living in the dorms and going to the Mall and the Union to just hang out.

    Bang for the buck

This school has everything and it is worth it! There is even a gym for people to work out in.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can, try to get into a dorm because it is so much easier trying to get to classes and you are much more likely to go to classes if you are in a dorm. Also, don't slack off on studying because it is a bad idea. Lastly, get out and about and have fun, there is so much to do on campus, go out and do it.

The campus is very focused on academic honesty and staying true to the rules. I am very excited to start learning from the professors that love teaching what they do!

    Will enjoy being here

From when you walk on to the campus to when you leave, you can tell that the students enjoy being there and are full of school spirit! Although there are still parties on campus because it's a college /: the partying is definitely at a minimum and the college focuses on academics and focusing on who YOU are and what YOU want.

    Bang for the buck

I wish college wasn't so expensive, but the automatic four year scholarship I received from them because of good grades definitely helps a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely do not check off this college from the list until you check them out! Go on campus, experience it outside of orientation. Roam around in the buildings, see all of the cool and unique things, and meet very nice and spirited college students! And don't forget to experience University Dr. right outside of campus! Lots of unique shops and great places to eat!

Once you breeze past the first two years and get to upper division classes, that's when you see how much the university can offer. The school offers a lot of really easy classes (I'm taking a class on social networking for my business degree) as well as a lot of extremely hard ones, (I took an astronomy class for a gen ed and found out it required a lot of physics knowledge.) The university can certainly teach you a lot of new things, but it depends on the school you apply to.

    Am enjoying being here

I really like being a student here. The school is respected. The students have a lot of pride. The campus really owns downtown life. The campus is beautiful. The rec center is out of this world. The campus is very fit, it seems like everyone is attractive.

    Bang for the buck

The UA provides a great education, but no one wants to live in Tucson. If the school can hook you up with a job, it's worth it, but many students find they graduate and are on their own. In the time I've been here, I've seen the university actively try to improve its career placement program, though. As with any school, a degree from the UA is only as good as what you make it. If you come to receive a useless degree, then you've wasted a lot of money. Eller is a great school, but it's kind of like its own fiefdom. Once you get through the barriers, though, its a great school.

    Tips for prospective students

Know your education requirements by memory. The counselors are not helpful and they try to get you out of the offices quickly. If you do not know anyone on campus, definately live in the dorms your first year. The UA police love to hand out jaywalking and bike tickets. The library is filled with homeless people because it's also a public library. Food and groceries on campus are outrageous. if you want a pound of pasta, walk or take the bus to Fry's grocery store down the street, otherwise you'll pay $5.00 for a bag of spaghetti. You need a bike, but get a U lock. Bike thieves are ubiquitous here.

The U of A is a great institution, and I feel like I have learned an exceptional amount. I am not only learning things pertaining to my major, but also about myself and about life. Time management, good study skills and responsibility are skills that you learn here as a student because the U of A offers great transition programs to help students adapt to college life.

    Am enjoying being here

This is a beautiful campus, filled with desert wildlife, but also plants and trees that aren't native to Tucson. Instructors and staff are dedicated to help the students and they aren't out to fail you. They are available for questions and tutoring, and are generally friendly. Everything you need is on campus whether it be school supplies, food, mental/physical/spiritual help, career and even legal advice. The campus is safe and fun to be in, and there is always something going on that is sure to keep you involved with the more than 500 different clubs, if you cant find one you like you can always start your own. Let's not forget about Greek Life there to make your college experience more fun and rewarding with friendships that can last a lifetime.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition for the upcoming Fall semester has increased, however the U of A has compensated with a refund for all students. Tuition may be expensive but that shouldn't stop you from achieving your dreams because they offer a lot of money in financial aid including grants and scholarships that you don;t have to repay. That's free money and they help you take advantage of it.

    Tips for prospective students

Fill out you FAFSA because you may be eligible for free money to pay for books or tuition. Also apply to other scholarships so that you pay less out of money. Textbooks are cheaper used and you can always sell them back to the bookstore because students will always need them. In order to do well at the University you must put your 100% effort into it, like they say you will get out of it what you put in. College isn't easy, but if you study right and learn to manage your time it doesn't have to be stressful and it becomes enjoyable. Take advantage of leadership and transition programs because they help with job positions and also internships and scholarships. Donate your time, volunteer you will be satisfied in many ways because it's good to help those who need it and also it helps build your resume.

Great for these types of students

If you love the sun and being outdoors then this is the perfect place for you! There are beautiful sunsets that are unique to the desert and there are also trails that you can bike, hike and picnic on. Since it is a desert, it can get really hot here, but you just have to make sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing and drink plenty of water. Tucson has reasonable weather all year long, but the best would be in the spring, the evenings are usually cool.

With top faculty and intelligent students, the University of Arizona is a wonderful opportunity to continue an academic career. The UofA offers interesting classes taught by skilled professors who are passionate about what they teach.

While the UofA provides a stellar education, it offers much more than that; it offers a complete college experience. It is so easy to get involved at the school, with its myriad of clubs and vibrant Greek life. People are always on the mall promoting membership and community. No matter what you're interested in, the UofA supports it and probably has a club for it. This is a place where you can truly explore yourself and your community and feel connected. College can be a daunting prospect, but the University of Arizona truly

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is always a prominent issue for selecting a school, and the UofA's tuition may increase yet again. Even with scholarships and jobs, students may not be able to afford the new pricetag. However, the money the University acquires is used to improve the students' academic career, such as offering mentor ships, funding clubs, and providing excellent facilities for all to use.

    Tips for prospective students

I have two simple tips that can significantly increase your chances at succeeding at the University of Arizona, or indeed any college: go to class and go to office hours. The former cannot be understated; if you're paying to go to college, actually attend class and take notes. Don't show up and socialize on Facebook, it's disrespectful to the professor and distracting to your peers. It will be difficult at times to motivate yourself to go to class, but even when the teacher doesn't take attendance or it's a huge lecture, going to class is worth it for both the test and for future academic ventures. Secondly, office hours consists of one-on-one face time with the professor who might otherwise never learn your name. Making strong connections with professors who know who you are and what you can do is essential in college and afterwards. If you want recommendation letters or a positive reference for a job, having a professor who knows you personally and can describe your strengths and achievements will be a major advantage.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that you try to get a feel for what you want to study before coming here. While gen eds are interesting and may give you an idea about what you want to do, they are not really a good representation for the actual work load and topics you will have when you begin studying in your field. Am learning a lot

College life is as much marked by experiences inside the classroom as it is by those that happen outside of this context. Nothing can be truer of the U of A, where opportunities abound more so than most other post-secondary institutions. Did you know that as a U of A student you are eligible to enter a research lab as early as your freshman year? I am aware, and thankfully became part of the amazing team of the Brain Imaging, Behavior, and Aging Lab. But beyond this practical reality that makes graduate school a much more feasible option, the U of A offers top of the line professors that go above and beyond, offering many opportunities to meet and converse, even with a freshman.

    Am enjoying being here

Perhaps an anecdote is the most successful way to convey my sense of belonging originating in my new home at the U of A. I remember vividly the grassy quad of the mall lined up side by side with the 300+ organizations voicing their views, perspectives, and ideas. Religious affiliations of all kinds, differing political parties, and clubs ranging from crusaders for world peace to advocates focusing primarily on Tucson issues all coexist. And, this remains the most potent lesson to be learned: diversity is welcome, and in fact, encouraged, on this campus. No room exists for hateful language, and this spirit of cooperation, despite the presence of a plethora of opinions, has been enlightening. Because at the U of A, each individual is treated with the principles of respect and understanding, no matter who you may be.

    Bang for the buck

Let's face it: Arizona is cheap in comparison to the rest of the United States when it comes to tuition. Like many of you, I aspired to greatness, with acceptances at both Duke and Georgetown University. However, financially, these universities presented a strain I had not known, and in retrospect, I am more than satisfied I chose to stay in state. On several occasions, I've heard of individuals studying at Harvard, Yale, and the other leading prestigious institutions in this country, spending thousands and thousands of dollars. These individuals receive far less attention while undergraduate students (as opposed to the U of A, where excellence is rewarded upon an individual basis, most notably with the Honors College Program), and then go on to achieve excellence I once thought to be reserved for the top colleges. Because, the fact of the matter is, very few institutions care where students get their undergraduate degrees, with the emphasis primarily on GPA, research involvement, and GRE, MCAT, and LSAT scores. In this sense, there is no more feasible college option than the U of A, offering the same levels of excellence as any other college, with the additional perk of an affordable education.

    Tips for prospective students

Take AP classes and earn credit. Very few universities are as generous as the U of A in rewarding your dedicated work in high school.

Great for these types of students

The U of A has a phenomenal engineering program, math program, science programs (be warned: science classes at the U of A are extremely difficult, requiring much effort, but ultimately rewarding), and ample opportunities to study abroad.
