    If your looking for a great learning experience, there is something important that you have to know, it all depends on YOU. So if you are, the advice I would give you and stuff you've probably already heard is to get to know your professor, research beyond on stuff that you're unfamiliar with. These two suggestions make such a great difference in any school you might choose to go, and here at UC Davis, the professors are amazing. (TIP: go to ratemyprofessors.com to look at the prof's review, this really saves you from a dull class!)

    Going to school at Davis isn't really what everyone assumes it is, by this I mean cow tipping and it being boring. If you are the type of person that likes to party at all times, this isn't the place for you. But if your like me, and like to go out on the weekends and hangout with friends all the time, then you're in the right place. Being here has allowed me to explore different things that I would've never explored if I didn't have the resources here. Such as being a DJ, through a volunteer program you can become a DJ at KDVS, Davis' own radio station located right on campus! Other opportunities may come up, so always be on the lookout.

    I think it is a bang for your buck, your given great professors to learn from, cool volunteer opportunities, great events such as Earth Day Festival and the Farmer's Market every Sat. and Wed., which have really amazing pastries and fruit!

    If you're checking this school out and want to know what goes on at Davis, check out Davis Wiki. This is a great source to learn about house parties to which bike trail is the steepest.
    Also, make sure you take a tour of the place, it has an amazing arboretum and the campus is filled with trees, maybe that will persuade you. Another thing to know is that transportation on bus is free, if you have a car San Francisco is only an hour away as well as Berkley, road trip is definitely a must if you have a car.

    If you're looking for a way out of distractions and want to focus on school, then this is the correct place to go. And if your worried about parties, there are enough to suit a full time student, you just have to look for them.

    As a freshman this past school year, I noticed that the staff and faculty at UC Davis was very knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating to the schedules of students. I learned a lot in my classes, but it wasn’t what I would call easy. I always did well in high school, but at UC Davis there’s a much more noticeable connection between hard work and success. In high school, you can just know the material, hardly study, and still get good grades. This is not the case at UC Davis. To earn good grades, you must put in lots and lots of time studying effectively. I, personally, treat my scholastic career like a fulltime job by spending 40 or more hours per week studying. There is no question that you will learn a lot at UC Davis, but how well you do in your classes is totally dependent upon how hard you study.

    I had the time of my life at UC Davis and am counting down the days until I return as a sophomore. The main reason I chose Davis over other campuses was because I liked the feel of the community. Not only is it a small town atmosphere, but the people in Davis are very friendly. In fact, they’re beyond friendly; it’s not uncommon for people to go out of their way to help you, and it’s very comforting to be in such welcoming surroundings.
    There is an endless list of other sensational attributes that Davis has to offer, such as the bowling alley and arcade located in the very center of campus, the always entertaining Division 1 athletics program, the largest annual student-run event in the nation (Picnic Day), a very new and cutting edge work out facility, semiweekly farmer’s markets, a very proactive Greek community, and running/bike paths encircling a large pond and arboretum. Davis also has great one-of-a-kind restaurants such as the Hotdogger (a hole-in-the-wall hot dog vendor), Burgers and Brew (a local burger joint that is open until 3 A.M. every single night), and the delicious Yoloberry frozen yogurt eatery. These restaurants are local to Davis and cheap enough for college students to enjoy. But as if that’s not enough to satisfy one’s appetite, the campus has an amazing buffet-style dining commons that serves meals for all types of eaters and is kept immaculate during operating hours (and it’s conveniently open until midnight on weekdays).
    I chose UC Davis because I loved the people I met and the positive atmosphere that is ubiquitous throughout the small town. Students, professors, and residents all seem to be outgoing, genuine, and truly down to earth people. After spending a year at school though, I’ve realized that there are so many other wonderful things Davis has to offer as well.

    I believe that the cost of tuition at UC Davis is worth every penny. The degree you earn from UC Davis is a very prestigious achievement and can take you almost anywhere in your future. The school also has a plethora of majors to choose from should you decide to change majors. The campus has its very own internship and career center that is very useful in helping students find local internships, jobs, and research opportunities. The dining commons are definitely worth the money because they’re quality smorgasbords, and the food and services are well above average. The new fitness center, the ARC (Activities Recreation Center), is a nicer work out facility than the fitness center I’ve worked at for three years now, and it comes included with the price of tuition rather than costing 92 dollars per month like my hometown gym.
    I’ve been very impressed with the overall quality of the professors, the food, the gym, the library, and the services offered by the school, and I would say that it’s worth all the somewhat expensive cost.

    Tips for prospective students

    I would recommend visiting any college that you are considering and base your decision on the feel of the community (big city or small town, warm or cold weather, relaxed or competitive, etc.) as well as whether or not they have your major. If you're not sure what major you want, it would be wise to pick a college that has lots of majors to choose from. Probably the most important factor in your college-selection process should be based on the feel of the campus when you visit it. Some campuses are very focused on academics; others are more relaxed and social. I visited campuses where everyone I saw was isolated and either listening to mp3 players, reading books, or just walking or sitting alone. I didn't see anyone talking to anyone else or socializing at all, and that just wasn't for me. Then I visited UC Davis where I saw people running together, sitting together, studying together, talking to one another, playing frisbee and other sports, and in general just enjoying themselves and the company of others...and that's the college experience I knew I wanted. But I can't speak for everyone...some like the rigorous feel of a focused campus.

    People who are friendly and like meeting others, people who are open to diversity, people who like a small-town feeling, people who enjoy bicycle riding, people who have yet to decide a career path, and people who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority.

    The professors here all really know their stuff! And even if you're a little confused about a topic, the grad student assistants are always there to help you out and fully understand a topic better. I love how at Davis, the actual professors teach the lectures, then the grad students run discussion. You get two chances and two different perspectives on a topic which is helpful when you don't understand. In addition, the professors work really hard with the students to make sure that their office hours work for everyone and that they are available for you whenever you need them. You hear horror stories about how professors are cruel and heartless, but in reality every professor I have had has been completely understanding and accommodating to their students needs.

    The town of Davis is its own little world. It's a small town and completely full of college students. Some people go home on the weekends but it is by no means a commuter school. I absolutely love the town and being there and never before have I wanted to go back to school so much! There is always something going on to fit any students preferences. From free movie nights in the Chem 194 lecture hall to constant parties on frat row. The Greek life here is amazing, there are no ugly house rivalries and everyone I have met, whether they're in a sorority or fraternity has been amazing. There are also hundreds of other extracurricular activities to get involved in, as well as various campus-wide events. There is the famed Picnic Day, full of families, fun and a never ending battle of the marching bands in the arboretum. There is Whole Earth Festival when for an entire weekend tie-dye wearing hippies overrun the main quad. The farmer's market comes every Wednesday and Saturday morning and occasionally there are midnight drum circles in the arboretum. The arboretum itself is an amazing place to lounge around on a warm summer or spring day. You can study out by the creek, feeling completely by yourself as a family of ducks waddles by. Everything about Davis seems to exist in its own little bubble, which is amazing feeling when you want to get the whole college experience. You can cut yourself off from the world and live in Davis for a little, then take a free bus down to Sacramento to get a healthy dose of shopping and the real world!

    College is expensive, but I think that in terms of tuition and the type of education you get at UC Davis, it is definitely worth it. You get some of the most knowledgeable professionals in each field, teaching YOU directly. Unlike some Ivy League or more elite schools, the professors themselves teach and will talk to YOU personally. You don't get shoved off onto teacher's assistants or grad students. Unfortunately, the school does try to rip you off sometimes. For example, there are no book lists and you have to physically go into the campus bookstore to find out what texts you will need, but you can always write down the titles then find them cheaper elsewhere. Overall, though, there are dozens of ways to cut costs and the high tuition is completely worth it, if not for the excellent professors and teaching, than for the experience as a whole.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved! If there's something you like or would like to try, there is a club on campus for that. And if there isn't, dozens of clubs are formed every quarter. Also, bring your bike, a good bike lock and light! Everyone rides bikes, and the biggest crime is bike theft. It's really the best way to get around though. There are so many bikes on campus that a lot of first year students park their bike outside of a lecture hall, then come out an hour later, freaking out because there are literally hundreds of bikes in front of them and they can't remember where they parked theirs! Go to Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning at least once, and see the dachshund races on Picnic Day. Go for a summer bike ride through the arboretum and try something you have never tried before. Take advantage of the campus escort/tipsy taxi services and try not to get too lost in the Death Star (aka: the social science and humanities building)!

    Someone who wants the full college experience. You become so immersed in your own little world of Davis that when you go home for holidays it's a bit of a culture shock. You don't have to love cows or the farm life, but you will have to get used to the occasional scent of cattle on campus! It's a beautiful and amazingly diverse place. If you want to go somewhere where the people are real and you're fully prepared to fall in love with your school, Davis is the place for you!

    My professors have been engaging and passionate about their subjects, even in lower division classes. They are always available to help in office hours. Class sizes are very large for prerequisite courses (my chem classes were 500 students), but get smaller when you specialize. There are so many people to meet and programs to get involved in!

    Personally, I LOVE the small town atmosphere. If you love the big city night life style of living, you would probably be bored here. But I enjoy going with friends to the farmer's marker on Saturday morning, biking EVERYWHERE around town and to classes, the arboretum full of cool birds, miles of bike paths, spending nights in watching movies with friends, nights out having chinese for dinner, and the excitement of my own apartment next year (even though leaving the dorms is kind of sad).

    I know that getting into college is getting more and more difficult, but you cannot get it any better than the UC schools. They are all excellent campuses with exemplary professors, programs, and opportunities. I would encourage everyone to apply to the UC system because your chances of getting into at least one of them are great, and you will get an amazing education for a reasonable tuition cost.
    Tips for prospective students

    It is a big school, but you will find people that are amazing friends and always be meeting more of them. Be prepared to go and get what you want for yourself: you have to have initiative, but once you take it everyone supports you on your way. There are so many excellent programs to study that you (like I did) will probably have trouble picking one. But this also gives you a great opportunity to learn about new things and take interesting and different classes.

    UC Davis is perfect for me: small adorable town, great community feel, friendly people, and more academic opportunities than you could hope for. I am studying biology and pre-vet and Davis has so many programs in the sciences.

    The University of California school system has a reputation of being one of the best in our nation. For 100 years, UC Davis has proved itself to be a school that values excellence in all the roads education has to offer. One in every three Californians have trusted this university to provide them with their best college experience, and with its ever thriving academic and social environment, you can put your trust in its hands as well. Do you feel like you wouldn't be challenged? Thank again. There are various honors programs that can put you to the test, from the Integrated Studies Program and the Davis Honors Challenge to the 20+ honor societies. Not looking forward to that math and chemistry course? Take something out of the ordinary! Learn about mushrooms, human sexuality, wine-making, tractor driving, or even how to milk a cow! There is no doubt that anyone can find something to fit their shoe at UC Davis.

    You're going to live in Cow Town? Despite what everyone thinks, Davis is not a complete cow town. Okay, sure, we have a greater density of cows than any other UC campus, but it's not like you're getting that horrific cow stench like you do when driving on I-5. Remember, Davis is a college town! Things are always happening. If you feel like it's not, do not panic! Sacramento is only 20 minutes away, San Francisco is at most an hour of a drive, and Lake Tahoe is a 1.5-2 hour road trip. Wanting to get further away? Take a bus, train, or plane! Stations for all are only minutes away from campus. And for all of you who like to party, don't you worry. ;)

    UC Davis has a lot of interesting classes to choose from. As a Psychology major, I was interested in this particular subject the moment I started going to school here. There is a wide variety of Psychology classes if that is what you are interested. There also a lot of fun classes to take such as beer brewing, and wine making. The fun classes at Davis are really packed, so its tough to get in it at times. There are a lot of extracurricular activities to do here, such as joining a martial arts club, dragon boat, ski or snowboard, and the gamut runs on. There are lots of people of different cultures and ethnicities, so one can immerse in the diversity of the campus.

    Davis is a small town. UC Davis, however is a big campus. It is very peaceful here because everyone is easy going, and the atmosphere is very nice. Although the temperature is a bit hard to get accustomed to. During the summer it is very, very hot. During the winter it gets very, very cold. So if you're coming to Davis, remember to get the appropriate clothing, otherwise you'll either burn or freeze.

    This gets a lower rating because of all the budget cuts and tuition raising. But other than that, this college is a great place to go to school because of the diverse cultures, myriads of different clubs, a lot of interesting classes to choose from, and the friendly people that go here.

    Always be friendly. Everyone is intimidated by other people, they might just be as intimidated as you are. When you sit next to people in class, introduce yourself, say hi, start to chat it up before class. Making friends in class helps you in that class, because you'll be able to help each other out during midterm weeks. Staying fit is also important. There is the ARC, which I think is one of the best perks of being a UCD student. Go there, work out, play some sports. You're paying for it in your tuition anyways. Might as well make the best of it.

    University of California, Davis has so much to offer to students of very versatile majors and career goals. Davis offers learning in every aspect of life, from the class room to curricular activities and in the job circuit. Davis dwells on distributing knowledge to those who are willing and want to learn. The classes can be tedious but the amount of knowledge attained is priceless. Davis wants to present only the best to the students and if an individual wants to take the opportunity they can soar with the knowledge acquired. The class rooms are friendly and a place where knowledge only continues to expand. If a student wants to gain more understanding of a subject the professors are very open to students request of one on one meetings. Not only are the class rooms a place of learning but the entire community of davis offers vast amounts of learning. I've had the experience to be apart of the Student Housing under training as an Resident Advisor. I only see how much Davis wants us to learn to the best of our ability. Through this program training is offered because they want to present to new residents the best Davis has to offer in a sense of resources. Being apart of Davis is a privilege because of the never ending learning of life which Davis continues to give me.

    I have loved Davis from the moment I took my first step on to the campus, which was durning my Junior year in High School. The saying goes The experience is what you make it which is entirely true as I have found while attending Davis. I went in with a willingness to learn and an open mind wanting to be involved in the community. I have involved myself in numerous ways through being involved with my floor which I lived on, being apart of the Equestrian Center, The Equestrian Team and through RA training. I have met so many people in the community that it continues to amaze me. The people are all really friendly it is not hard at all to meet people, they are willing to help and genuinely care for other people. The more I continue to get involved with the campus the more I learn and network. It brings me joy everyday to wake up in the morning and see what new experience I will gain. Overall Davis is a very safe place too, I have no worries to walk the campus at late times of the night and if there is a worry there are resources such as escort service which helps to safely get from point A to B. Davis is safe and will bring a satisfying enjoyment to students who attend this is all important to consider in the pursuit of learning.

    Davis may be an expensive school but it is only because there is so much to offer, by attending Davis you are receiving the best that Davis has to offer. There are ways to make the school cheaper by getting on-campus jobs, scholarships or applying for positions such as RA, Barn Supervisors, and other positions. The education will be worth what you will be paying, education and knowledge is priceless it is something that will follow you throughout your life but money is a material item which will come and go. The experience will be unforgettable and if money is a problem Davis is able to work something out wether it be in student loans or work-study jobs. The experience is worth every penny, this experience is one which I don't regret paying and working for. If I spent my money on insignificant material items I would only have regrets. This is one life, one education and I don't regret my choice to attend UC Davis.
    Tips for prospective students

    As a student who attends Davis my advice would be to stay on top of grades. During the first year of college stay as focused on classes as possible. It may be hard due to transitions from home, new friends, new faces and room mates but when all else fails you rely on your class work to get you through the hard times. Hard work pays off at Davis if you give something your all then you will see results. Make sure to go to the professors office hours, if you are having troubles they may be willing to work things out also it helps for future references. Going to office hours causes professors to appreciate the students willingness to learn more and it shows you are dedicated to the class. Another tip is once you are on top of grades try to get involved in the community of Davis in some way. It helps networking, its good to have an outlet for stress and it will look good on future resumes. Classes are important but so is your personal happiness do something that keeps you involved and happy.

    I've only been here for one quarter, but it has been amazing. The professors give you the lectures, and they know their stuff. They are all willing to explain a topic if you as in class, even if it was from the past lecture. They try to make sure everyone understands. All of my professors were really cool, and they are really willing to help you out. The Graduate students are the TAs, and they've been through what we went through, so they understand; and they really are helpful.

    I am from Southern California, and we all know it's never cold. So it was really nice to get some wintery cold for once. There's open spaces so you can go study if you need to get out of your dorm. If you need a study break you can always go to the Arboretum and go watch the ducks and the otters, or go Downtown and see the neat little stores, or if you really want to get out, take the bus to Sacramento! The public transportation is extremely reliable so you don't really need a car. There's movie theaters and we also have free movie screenings in Chem 194, a lecture hall on campus. How cool is that? Here, you'll meet people from around the state, the country, and even the world!

    Despite our fee increase, it's really worth it. Not only do you get top-rate professors, you also get a gym, recreation, and useful resources for studying, as well as tutoring and even free printing! You definitely get what you pay for, and even more.

    Davis is not really as agrarian as most people think it is, so really consider coming to check it out before you apply. You just might find that you fall in love with the place and decide to come here

    Some of you urban dwellers might want to try small-town living. This is a place for those that don't mind having to ride the bus. Also, you'll find your place somewhere, there's always something happening from movies, to sports, to even just walking around the town.

    I have met amazing students. The talent here stretches all over the board from I can't believe you got in... to You also got into Cal Tech? Why didn't you go there instead? Because of my major, Biomedical Engineering, I don't associate with the party all day! crowd very much but they do exist. Students that get down and study for insanely easy placement tests also exist. Its populous here and very diverse.

    There was an assumption at my high school that Davis was the UC anyone can get into. DO NOT assume it will be easy here. The courses are tough especially with engineering, math, and computer majors setting the curve. It is a research school so that comes with tons of internships (Genentech, etc), research with professors, study abroad opportunities, etc.

    For such a big place there are tons of opportunities to connect with professors: office hours, sandwich shops, honors programs, internships, CLUBS, etc. If you choose to live outside of a cave there are also many ways to connections for future job endeavors.

    I live in Tercero Wall Hall which is right next to a farm of very handsome cows. There are 9 new buildings this fall (2011) and they're still constructing new ones opening in the next year or two. These residence halls are fantastic. They come more furnished than other schools AND my favorite part, the three person rooms are overly roomy! They are also about $2000 less a year than a typical 2 person room which means $2000 extra to save.

    Davis is known for their Dining Commons. On top of the great healthy food in the DC, there is also a farmer's market twice a week. There aren't many fast food places close by except for Carl's Jr. but there are tons of small business restaurants.

    THEY TAKE CARE OF YOU HERE. There's a tipsy taxi and and an escort service (I know, it's a bad name) to walk you if you're scared of going home alone in the dark. They spend 6 hrs taking about safety and sexual harassment and health during freshman orientation. It's difficult sitting that long but for a school to do something like that and to give you so many resources in case you're ever in trouble, it shows that they REALLY REALLY care.

    Last but not least, BEST GYM EVERRRR and its free!!

    I was able to get a lot of financial aid, almost a full scholarship for the 2011-2012 year. Especially if your family's income is low-middle class to low, Davis does it's best to keep you from spending $10,000 out of pocket which means no emptying savings or taking private bank loans. They have the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan which provided me with and extra $5,000. Look it up. It's amazing.
    The other private school I wanted to attend asked me to take $10,000 out of various federal loans and and an additional $25,000. Davis offers the same great opportunities plus some since it's bigger at a cheaper school. I definitely feel grateful I had the option of picking this one instead.

    The financial package is slightly overestimated so if you have all your aid completely covered, usually at the end there's still $2000-5000 left for spending on sweatshirts, athletics, summer courses, etc. Usually students will save this up to pay back their loans or they'll live extravagantly and spend it all throughout the year.

    Students that come here should expect to be part of a very tight college town. The sport games are very spirited. People sleep in the grass in the quad every day. It's welcoming. It will be surprisingly easy to make friends here because everyone is so diverse. There bound to be a handful of people with your shared interest.

    After freshman year you are expected to live on your own outside of Davis's help. I love this because it encourages self sufficiency.

    There is so much variety as to what exactly you can study here. From wine-making to nursing. From horse husbandry to tractor driving. From medicine and chemistry to animal science and exercise biology, there are no limits as to what classes and subjects you can take. This is definitely a college to broaden interests and explore opportunities.

    UC Davis is a very active and fun college that is a major influential factor to the city of Davis that surrounds it. Davis, the city itself, is a very quaint and comfortable place to live with a downtown area, filled with coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, and farmer's markets. Though it is rumored that there is not very much to do in Davis, I beg to differ! There is lots to do, most requires little or no money at all! The city is safe and enjoyable while the school provides lots of services to current students for a comfortable stay and the people are very friendly.

    UC Davis students enjoy many free services like yearly memberships to the ARC, a huge gym on campus, free service for the Uni Trans and YoloBus, bus services that run around and through Davis, access to the Student Health and Wellness Center, access to the Davis Library, and, if credited pre-purchased swipes, access to Dining Commons in the dorms across campus. I find that my money put into paying for education here is well used and is brought back to me in forms that I can utilize.
    Tips for prospective students

    - Research about Davis beforehand: It's culture, it's history, etc. to see if it it the right choice for you.
    - Fill out the FAFSA forms EARLY to determine what Financial Aid you are qualified for.
    - Get involved with activities, clubs, and sports.
    - Do not be afraid to say hello! College is a new experience for everyone, and there are people who are just as nervous as you may be!

    The classes at UCD are really friendly. Generally I don't feel the constant tension of competing for the best grades. If you are struggling with a concept in class, you can easily talk to the professor about it, you can easily talk to the TAs about it and you can easily talk to your classmates about it. There are also free tutoring centers at the academic centers.

    When I first moved into the dorms, I honestly thought I would really hate it. Davis is no New York, but you always manage to find something to do when you want a break from studying. There are always a lot of crazy fun events going on over the weekend and if you're too poor, there is always a super friendly game of hide-and-seek at the Social Science and Humanities building. ;)

    Davis will be worth your money when you go to class, study and use all its resources. If you just go to college and stay in your dorm, you are wasting tens of thousands of dollars (it doesn't matter which college you are at). Of course tuition went up drastically, but UCD is still worth going to.

    I want ALL seniors to know that college is college. The name of the college DOES NOT MATTER at all! If you are working a little harder to get more education, you are automatically more successful then the students who were too lazy to apply for college. There is no doubt that UCD is a great school, but don't ever beat yourself up if you couldn't get in. Another great tip, if you didn't get into a UC that you really wanted to get into, you should definitely try to APPEAL. The UC appeals come out shortly after you hear back from colleges and I know a few people who appealed to UCD and got in. I hope this helps =]

    You chose to go to college to study and further your education, UCD does that. Just because classes have a more friendly environment does not mean that you don't have to study for your exams. Good grades come to the students who work hard for them.

    I've been here for one year and I have to say that I'm glad I chose Davis. There are so many classes here to choose from and lots of oddball classes such as Tractor driving where you can earn some useful skills (who says being able to drive a tractor isn't useful?) Students here encourage newcomers to try out different classes, especially ones that don't relate to your major; I'm also an advocate for this point. Also, Davis' agricultural land allows the campus to have unique classes, such as Brewing and Viticulture.

    Davis isn't a campus for those who love the urban life of constant clubbing and partying. However, those who like the feel of a college town must consider UC Davis. This campus is one of the few true college town campuses left from what I've visited and the nostalgic feeling of being at home is definitely present on and off campus.

    With the financial aid program, which is available to everyone, UC Davis is what I consider bang for the buck. Tuition here allows free use of the Aggie Recreation Center, cheap tickets to performances in the famous Mondavi Center, and close locations to Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.
    Tips for prospective students

    You may want to visit the campus once more after orientation if you can in order to get a sense of where the general buildings and rooms are, such as the Science Lecture Hall 123, Chemistry 194, and Young Hall 198. The rooms mentioned before are some of the most common rooms for the freshmen general classes like Chemistry or Math. Also, this may have been mentioned at orientation, but make sure to have at least a back fender on your bike to prevent splashing from puddles during the fall rainy season.

    For students who have that unsure and hesitant feeling about entering college, I think UC Davis is a good college choice for you. The campus revolves around working and helping with the members of the Davis community, and I think this family oriented atmosphere will help keep the feelings of homesickness down a bit as well as allow you to grow and mature into an independent adult. UC Davis allows the gradual transition from living with the family in high school to a more independent lifestyle with friends and faculty. So those of you out there who relate to this type of gradual transition, myself included, Davis is the place for you.

    UC Davis is a premier research institute and therefore you are learning from top researchers in each field. The things you learn are not only interesting but it is so much more detailed than what you are taught in high school. If it is a field you are very interested in you also have many opportunities to be hands on. You gain a variety of information and it really helps you open up your eyes to what you could spend the rest of your life doing.

    Davis is stereotyped beyond belief! Everyone thinks that it is a bunch of nerds that study all day and hang out with the cows in their free time...NO! This is not the case at all. Sure if you plan on partying every day of the week, this is not the place for you. But there is a lot to do. Davis, being a college town is great because you have everything you need either a bike ride or short bus ride away. Downtown is a lot of fun because you can go walk around and eat some pretty good food. Movie theaters offer $5 movie nights which is always a fun midweek treat and on the weekend there are parties. Yes, Davis kids do party!

    Of course college is expensive and many people wonder if it is worth paying so much to go to a school like UC Davis, but I think it's totally worth it. The quality of education you are getting is amazing. You also have ease of access when it comes to getting more hands on. Research opportunities, as well as internships and volunteer positions open up daily. They truly set you up for life in the real world and the students that are produced are great in their field.

    Coming to college is a HUGE transition. Not only is the work harder but living away from home and on your own also adds to the situation. The quarter system is very fast moving and it is up to you to keep up with the work. Teachers are not lenient and with only ten weeks to make your grade, you have no time to mess up. If you move into the dorms as a freshman, you have to make sure that you balance your social time and your school time. Many people get so caught up in living with their friends and hanging out that they forget all about school. You just have to always remember that you are there to get and education and that has to always be your top priority.

    Overall, UC Davis is a great school. Its ideal for students in science, engineer, and health related majors however they have something for everyone. The town itself is small so it may not be for those looking to make it big in the city. But for someone looking for an experience in a cozy college town, Davis is great!

    If you apply as any type of science or math major, you will definitely be challenged. Your professors will allow you to think critically and allow you to learn the concepts and apply them in class and in the future. If you are the type of person who is able to learn the concepts and apply them in problems and tests, then this is school will be a great learning experience.
    Another thing is that most scholarly schools tend to have a academic competitiveness environment; however, the UC Davis campus does not have a competitive vibe at all, it is very relaxing. You can still go to school, learn a lot, and do good in order to achieve your goal without the competitive environment at UC Davis.

    I love it here! UC Davis was actually my first choice of school. Why? Well, when I came to UC Davis for a tour of the campus, before I applied to colleges, I asked the tour guide, I am still not exactly sure what schools are right for me. How do I decide? The tour guide replied saying, The school will choose you. When you come across the right university, you will know, because there will be that instant click. After applying for colleges, I went for a tour for the second time. After that tour, I felt that instant click. That instance, I knew I wanted to go to UC Davis and only UC Davis. If this school clicks for you, then I would say to go with your instincts, because you will surely love this school.
    This school has a friendly and clean environment, so the campus is very green. Not only is the campus green, the entire community/city is also green. We are also very favorable on local and organic foods, so there is a Trader Joe's near the campus. This campus is also bike-friendly, so if you love the nature and like to bike around, this is also the right school for you.

    Although there have been many recent fee hikes, the cost of education is still considerably less than many equivalent private universities.
    Tips for prospective students

    For transfer students, my tip would be to make sure that the pre-requisites required for each major be completed before transferring. This way a student may move swiftly to completion of the desired degree. If a student is not on scholarship or being funded by a second party than this will help minimize the cost so that the upper division requirements can be focused upon.

    UCD is great for students that are not looking for a party school, but instead being focused on a serious education, especially in the research sciences. It is particularly well-adapted to those that are socially and environmentally conscious.

    Being an International student, I was much used to the conventional learning methods of simply reading and re-reading textbooks, but professors in UC Davis make us struggle for knowledge rather than simply attaining it from textbooks. Hence I would like to conclude that UC Davis is very competitive.

    Nothing in Davis can be more perfect. It is a University Town designed for students. The atmosphere is amazing. Not only the campus but also the surrounding areas are very safe and friendly. The Arboretum is perfect place to spend time alone, I often go there only to sit and enjoy the wilderness and I often find myself talking to duck. We Also have an Arcade center on campus; and you are wrong if you believe that there are no parties in Davis, but at the same time we know the right time to party.

    As an international student there were no scholarships opportunities for me. And moreover the fee is yet to increase. Believe it or not, I am paying 54,000 $ a year for a computer science Major in UCD. Perhaps that has a lot to say about to school. But never the less it is still expensive.

    Davis has a lot to offer. The professors are great, I spend at least 3 hour a week in office hours of various professors. It isn't easy being a UC Davis student when it comes to the grades. Each course has upto 3 midterms that are as stressful as a final.

    At UC Davis, there are a lot of classes to choose from. Its a matter of what you want to take and Davis definitely has a lot of diverse classes. I've actually learned new information on things I thought I already knew and in some subjects, completely new information that really amazed me. However, I'm not going to say ALL the professors here are amazing as I don't believe that any college will have the perfect staff. What I do love is that all the professors I've had so far seemed easy to talk to and were always clear about homework and what we could do to pass their classes. They never gave off an intimidating air. As long as you find the right professor who knows their stuff, you'll be learning new information left and right.

    Davis is a small town that has a great busing system if you don't bike or drive. Since its a small town, you could explore Davis and easily get what you want and/or need through whatever type of transportation you prefer. If that's not enough for you, you can commute to the cities and towns around Davis such as Sacramento, Woodland and Vacaville to eat out, go shopping, have fun etc. And if you're the type to party, there are parties here and there if you know where to look.

    Depending on the person, the answer will vary. I'm low income and I depend heavily on financial aid. With tuition rising I really have to pay attention to where my money is really going. There are actually parts of my tuition that I paid for that I don't even use (gym, health care etc). Its not that I don't want to, its that once I get through all my classes, study, do homework, and eat, the day is basically over. I would use these resources that I've paid for but I can't when one day feels so short. In terms of classes, the money is worth it. In fact there are many areas where the money is going where I think it should but on the down side (as I've already said) the money is going where I don't even use it. Apply for scholarships and save as much money as you can. It will be useful for your college life.

    Its good to actually talk to an upperclassman who's attending Davis and was of similar standing as you were as you could prepare for the things they weren't. If you're worried about money, try to earn some cash either through scholarships or jobs. Don't slack off on anything that has to do with college as there are deadlines you really need to work with. Look at what Davis has to offer for you too. Do they have programs or majors you would be interested in? Last but not least, visit Davis or any of the colleges you're looking into. It really can make a difference.

    Agriculture, science and engineering is what UC Davis is well known for. If you're looking for a good program in these areas then I'd consider UC Davis as a choice.

    UC Davis has many opportunities for students to learn their material in depth. The school offers personal office hours with the professor, in which the student can talk one to one with the professor, this really helps the student connect with their professor and ask questions that they are concerned about. With these hours, students can ask what they should expect in class and how they should be working in order to be successful in class. There are also workshops for certain classes in which teaching assistants go over the material to help students really understand their material. There are also tutors available every day, in which students can go up to them for help in homework. With these programs there is no excuse for a student to be lost, for they have all the help they need.

    UC Davis has many clubs in which students can participate ranging from many majors. There also fraternities and sororities that focus upon one field, like the pre-medical fraternity that help their brothers achieve their goals for entering medical school. There are also many programs throughout the year to release stress and depression from students. The campus has many programs for certain problems that students encounter throughout the years. For example, there is the program about stress relieving, in which the student goes in and gets helped by a professional to calm their nerves and help set a schedule to ensure that the student gets their work done and at the same time have free time to relax outside of studies.

Being the number one school in California for an undergraduate research institution, enables many undergraduate students to participate in research and gain the possibility of being paid for research. UC Davis is the third best public school in California and it is rising little by little to the top. Compared to prices from private schools, UC Davis tuition is low and it gives an exceptional education for being a public schools to students who attend these institution.

    Apply to as many programs that you find, for they would benefit you in the long run. Join every club that you can, for they will help you in the career that you are pursuing. Number one tip though, always make sure your on top of your grades and that you go to the professor's office hours.

    This school is recommended for science, engineering, and agricultural studies. With four colleges in our system, UC Davis is open for a wide range of majors. The four colleges being; the college of biological studies ( students leaning towards medical school or research), college of engineering (students leaning towards math or engineering majors), college of letters and science (students leaning towards political science, communication, liberal arts), and lastly college of agricultural science (students leaning towards animal science and the environment or agriculture).

    I am living in Segundo North, and the dinning common is AWESOME! I love to eat there. The dinning hall opens till 12:00am Monday-Friday. It is also very vegan and vegetarian friendly. About 99.9% people you see on campus are amiable. Our floor mates bond very well together.

    The university has very high standards for students. Students are required to full fill social science, arts and humanities, science, social-culture, and writing requirements. Fortunately, professors and advisers are very willing to help students in anyway. It might seems very challenging, but students will actually learn a lot through these courses.

    Go to all the meetings you know for the first 2 months of school, you will learn A LOT things about school and activities in these meetings.
    Go to academic center for help if you need. Even if you think you are a good writer for English, you should still go see an adviser and make your paper better.

    I just finished my first quarter at UC Davis, and it was quite successful. You'll meet the professors that don't seem that interested in teaching, the professors that are highly enthusiastic about teaching, but just can't... and the professors that are absolutely amazing. As of now, however, most of the core subjects I have taken are review from high school AP courses, however my general education class called Science and Technology studies has been one of the most amazing classes I have ever taken in my life. We explored a lot of the in depth thinking behind social trends and methods in science and thinking. I learned more in this class than in any class I have ever taken. Be prepared though, classes are not easy and some people are highly competitive.
    Am enjoying being here

    I have met some of the most amazing people here at UC Davis, especially in my dorm building. We are like a tight-knit family and they make me feel very at home here. The locals are also very friendly, and the town has a lot to offer including weekly farmers markets. Speaking of which, the food here at UC Davis is fantastic, better than most food at universities, in my opinion; there is a multitude of vegetarian and vegan options as well. It's the people that will make you love UC Davis.

    With rising tuition costs, any university is not worth its bang for the buck, unless they supply you with full paid tuition. I believe it is more thrifty to attend a community college for two years then transfer. However, you would miss out of the college experience of a four-year university, which I believe is very much worth it. UC Davis is actually covering my entire tuition costs with its Undergraduate Scholarship, which is based on merit. Most people I know have about half of their cost covered by financial aid, and some have all of it covered, while some have none.
    Tips for prospective students

    Come to UC Davis with a bright outlook on life, your future, and your stay at UC Davis. It'll make all the difference. I know a few people are unhappy at UC Davis because they don't come with a positive outlook. They stay cooped up in their rooms all day and don't talk to anyone. You will dearly miss your old friends, I understand; I for sure did. But you will make many new great friends here as well, and will see your old friends again during breaks, which makes breaks even more worth it.

    Keep up with your studies. You came to college thinking you're going to have a lot of fun, and you will, but remember that you're paying for education as well. The quarter system will move very fast.

    Buy actual winter clothes, it gets so cold.

    UC Davis is a great school for outgoing students looking for a great time and great friends, but at the same time are highly focused on their educational goals. UC Davis is a top school, it's a UC after all, but it's also got one of the nicest people, and is situated in one of the nicest towns.

    go to the concerts, the buzz, any of the events, really. go to the parks or the arc and take a dance or sport class, such as belly dancing.

    the university of california system is affordable when someone is too poor to pay through college, or is rich enough to pay for themselves. the middle class students have so much trouble paying the tuition fees, which honestly should be almost free considering it's a public and not private university. this is the only flaw with uc davis.

    picnic day is held in april and is the largest event that every student (or non-student) looks forward to! :)

    academic, but still like to do things and go out. a student at uc davis must be self-disciplined, organized and fairly independent to survive here.

    davis has really amazing weather on some days, and multiple places to chill or reflect outdoors. college town - almost half the population of davis is students, so visiting/hanging out at friends' places is easy. master how to ride a bike/fix your bike.
    Tips for prospective students

    go for different club meetings and find out what you like, and then join it! especially clubs for your majors. also, talk to upperclassmen. since they have experienced at least a year in davis, they will know some valuable information. (like where secret microwaves are located!) the classes at the activities and recreation center (arc ie. the gym) are a great way to keep fit and have fun. highly recommended!

    most classes require you to do a reasonable amount of work, and just attending lectures helps alot.

    eating at the dining commons or hanging out in the dorm lounge watching tv or playing games is a great way to socialize and bond with people you'll be seeing for a whole year.

    at least for the first year, the dining commons are buffet-styled, so there's a wide selection (at least 4 or 5 dishes for each meal). comments vary on a broad spectrum.. from hate to love. pizza is made fresh (you can actually see the dough and toppings they put). i'm not complaining!
    other than the dining commons, downtown has quite a wide selection of all types of cuisines. hard to find chinese food that's not overly oily and saucy. great mediterranean food at sam's, and great mahi-mahi burrito at dos coyotes. just saying!
    my personal favorites on campus: (at the silo) shah's, star ginger (at the coho) coho caesar salad.
    What to do for fun

    meal downtown, movie/tv show nights, shopping at forever 21 (the only shopping place in miles), cook/bake, badminton/volleyball/table tennis at the arc,

    good:
    free bus rides for undergrads
    free entry to athletic games for undergrads (basketball, football, etc.)
    brand new student community center with brand new macs.
    for some physics/engineering classes you get unlimited prints.

    live in the dorms!! i live in the segundo area this year and i love it! everyone loves segundo. :) living in the dorms is a great way to make a ton of new friends your freshman year! the ra's are supposed to set up activities for your floor and everyone gets to bond.

    the dc food is great. it's convenient because you don't have to cook for yourself, but the food does get tiring.
    What to do for fun

    you can explore the downtown area of davis or go to the arboretum. you can also sign up for group exercise classes at the arc.

    i recently visited uc davis with my family and the atmosphere was incredible. the town is small, but full of fun things to do and all of the people had a friendly, helpful demeanor. the campus is very impressive and full of incredible research facilities and student amenities.

    the dining halls are incredible. we were treated to a typical uc davis lunch and were surprised by the variety and quality of the food. there were so many options for all types of diet plans and all of the food was delicious. a cool bonus was the dining halls are all equipped to be eco-friendly and reduce food waste.

    uc davis is a rigorous public university surrounded by nature and friendly people. there is so much to offer in davis and even though uc davis is this big school with a big campus, its comparable to a small home-y feeling town. a bike, rain boots, and an umbrella are ucd's must have essentials.

    don't fall behind in class, especially your science classes. once you fall behind, it is so hard to catch back up. stay on top of everything. there is so much to offer, so get involved!

    ucd is definitely a more rigorous university with talented students. it's a challenge but it is absolutely doable if you learn to manage your time well and willing to study hard.

    rooms are a bit small, but that's a given. the dorm i'm living at is really nice. we even get an extra storage closet to store empty boxes suitcases and things we won't need on an everyday basis. we also have a big kitchen and a very spacious study room.

    food is pretty good for the most part but it does get repetitive sometimes. chefs try to add variety in their food but also keep things healthy and there's so many different types of food to eat.
    What to do for fun

    you can do anything for fun, hang out with friends at downtown davis, go on bike rides, or just visiting the arboretum. the arboretum is gorgeous and some people study there because it looks and feels so nice.

    its actually pretty pricey to live in davis, but what do you expect? college in general is expensive so nothing we can really do about it.

    get your grades up and make sure you have two activities that you are really into and want to continue in college. davis is not an easy uc to get into but it is one of the best for undeclareds. i would suggest making sure that your sat scores and gpa are better than the average and not to slack on your essays.

    while university of california-davis may not be at the top of academic rigor it is still very high up there in public education. i believe it is currently ranked at number 4 of the ucs and is one of the top ten public universities in the nation. some of my classes can be a bit boring for me but there are always at least two other classes that can be quite challenging, especially for those who procrastinate or need to study a lot to do well. just like most other universities you must stay on top of your studies in order to do well.
    Dorm Life

    they put together lots of activities that give you a chance to mingle with others in your dorm area. also they are very good about making sure you are comfortable with your living situation. i know one person who has moved to a different room three different times and it's only the second quarter! you are allowed to move within a certain amount of time at the beginning of each quarter. so if you're worried about getting stuck with a bad roommate, don't be. the only problem is, while the new dorms are nice, the older ones are a bit gloomy and you can still tell they're old despite how hard they try to cover it up. the new ones are very nice though.

    maybe i'm just a little stuck up about my food, but after three days of food at the dc here i have to go out and get something else. however, many of my friends, especially those that live off campus, adore our dc and always exclaim about how good it is. luckily there are many options available for people like me. downtown davis is right next to campus and all the restaurants have very college student friendly prices. also there are other dining options on campus that are very good as well as some at university mall. davis also has a fantastic farmers market where you can mingle with other students as well as the community.
    What to do for fun

    sacramento is about a 15 minute drive away but to be honest there's not much happening there either. most students party on the weekends for fun. sometimes they have concerts on campus like tiesto or kiesha and there are always big sports events so the campus isn't necessarily dead, you just have to be aware of what's going on. also a lot of people like to go to the arc (our recreation center) and either work out or play games. they also have outdoor adventures where you can go off campus and do things like white-water rafting. if you're more of a bookworm and like to take long walks there is an arboretum that runs the length of the campus and it is very beautiful.
    Bang for the buck

    it's getting a little expensive to go to a uc but i love it here and am willing to pay for the education i'm receiving. also tuition is constantly changing and although it's probably going to go up, who really knows with all the petitioning going on.

    there is a beautiful place called shield's grove. it's a moon garden so if you go at night it's even more spectacular with glowing white flowers and this tropical smell you can never quite get enough of.

    students who like to be outdoors and are into sports would love it at davis. it's not for those who love living in the city because a building five stories tall would be a considered a high rise but it's wonderfully quaint and charming for those who like to live in a suburban area. also anyone who wants to enter the agricultural field would absolutely adore it here as well as any pre-vets.
    Clubs and Activities

    they offer such a wide range of clubs and activities here, that no matter what your interests are you will definitely find it here. and not only do they have such a wide range of activities, it's really easy to get started on something new that you might not have considered before. also ucd is the only uc and one of the few universities that has a very nice equestrian center for students on campus.
    Greek Life

    i'm not much into greek life but if you want it, ucd has it. there are two blocks full of sororities and fraternities and during welcome week it can be pretty crazy over there. some of my friends have joined sororities and fraternities and many of them were able to get into whichever one they wanted.
    Campus Safety

    this campus is very safe, except for the occasional bike accident. they have this free service where someone will come escort you wherever you need to go and it is available 24/7. also we have a tipsy taxi which is a cheap taxi service available to all students who might be tipsy or just need a ride in the middle of the night.

    I love the college itself but I really don't like the town, Davis. If you are somebody who enjoys the city life and like to adventure over the weekend I don't think it is the school for you. The downtown area around Davis is really boring and quiet. There's not a lot of shopping around Davis as well.

    Make sure to visit Davis before and make the decision without the influence of others. Go with your gut feeling because you know yoursself the best.

    It is more academically rigorous than I had expected. Especially if you are in science the classes are extremely difficult. But there are a lot of academic services to help you but you have to be proactive in your learning in order to take advantage of this.
    Dorm Life

    Many of the dorms are brand new! Make sure you get a good roommate and to not be on the themed floors. They're usually more quiet and not as outgoing.
    Food and Dining

    The dining commons are great. Cuarto has organic and all natural food. Segundo has the most options. Tercero is cosy with a great choice of meals as well.
    Greek Life

    You have to be part of greek life to get invited to parties. Most of the parties are thrown by people involved in greek life or a greek life event. When you rush make sure to also go with your gut feeling, don't join a sorority or fraternity by the reputation they have on campus.

    University of California Davis is a perfect fit for me because I love both the atmospehere while cruising through campus on my bike, as well as the rigor of the classes. Since arriving here, I have learned so much from my array of classes and I highly recommend trying a wide variety of classes. the best part about Davis is the indescribable college town feeling and sense of community.

    I would recommend perspective students to visit the campus while classes are in session because statistics and still photos on the computer simply will not provide students with an adequate viewing of the school or a feel for the type of students on campus.

    The classes here are challenging to any bright mind and encourage academic though processes rather than a basic knowledge of the subject matter. Students are forced to think conceptually and apply concepts from the class and readings into a broad spectrum. It's a great learning environment and offers academic challenge.

    Dorm living is a great way to meet new people, get involved with great extracurriculars, and eat delicious food at the same time. The dorms provide the social spectrum any socialite desires while still allowing space for quietude and studying. Also, the dorms are extremely central to the entire campus, making any trip more accessible.

    The Dining Commons offer students an unlimited amount of food. I have noticed that certain foods are always available to students and at the same time, the items on the menu change regularly and are quite appetizing. The best meal is breakfast and if students are looking for a late night pick-me-up, late night has delicious food and serves until 12pm.

    There are plenty of grassy areas available for students to throw around a frisbee or even relax on a nice day. My favorite thing to do is play IM sports; there is nothing better than getting a group of friends together, whether competitive or not, and playing against other students. The party scene is fun as well if that's what you're looking for, but the bottom line is that there is something for everyone at Davis.

    Picnic day is a fantastic day to visit campus because it is a community wide tradition which involves all students on campus and members of the community. it is a great time for socializing as well as watching the Cal-Aggie Band-uh compete against other school's bands in a competition to see how long each band can go without ever repeating a song.

    Davis is great for any type of student. Greek life is a large proportion of the campus so if that is your scene, you'll fit right in. If you would prefer to focus on your studies, you will not find a better selection of students, and if you are interested in athletics, there are hundreds of ways to participate whether it is ICA, club sports, IM sports, or just working out in the ARC.

    There are hundreds of clubs on campus for any type of student. There are religious based clubs, cultural clubs, dance clubs, sport clubs, and volunteer based clubs. Whatever type of club you are searching for, you will find it in Davis.
    Greek Life

    The Greek life makes up 10% of the student population and it is a great place to meet new people. It is important to note that not all Greek Life is social-based, some are community service and career based, so finding the perfect fit for you is easy.
    Campus Safety

    The campus is extremely safe with on campus police as well as an extremely low crime rate. Students here can feel safe crawling home in the late hours of the night because the selection of students and community here is absolutely spectacular.

    Am learning a lot

    Going to a public institution means you have to look for your own education. You have the freedom to skip lectures and discussions and half-heartedly do your assignments, but when the time comes around and your quarter grades come out half as quickly as you had imagined, you don't want to be caught in regret and wish you had done things differently. The classes I've taken so far have all taught me a lot, regardless of the how others have spoken about the professors, etc. Personally, I loved all my classes even if they didn't have much to do with my major. Most of my professors were super involved in what they were talking about, but that doesn't mean YOU learn anything. You have to work for yourself! If you don't understand something, ask ASAP.
    Davis is becoming more and more famous for outstanding academics, and I can totally feel that vibe from my experiences. Push yourself and you will succeed!

    Davis is a super cute town. It's not huge and not extremely exciting, but there are always ways to keep occupied and stay involved. Best eats, I would say, are at Burgers & Brew, Woodstocks, Sophia's Thai Kitchen, and Old Teahouse for the sake of convenience and late hours. There are some nice convenient restaurants by the Amtrak station if you want to grab a bite before heading off to home and you don't want to get ripped off on the train. Paesano's is great for a nicer sit-down environment where the prices are reasonable. Best dessert place is definitely the gelato shop by Varsity Theatre. There are a couple movie theaters downtown, but they get crowded ever so often.
    There are lots of events year-round, and the sports events are all free for Davis students! It's fun to cheer with the Aggie Pack even if you don't know what the heck is going on in the game!
    Bang for the buck

    Although the academic quality provided by Davis is great, as a public state-funded institution, the price is rather steep, especially for those coming from upper-middle class households. Financial aid is slim and not very generous at all, but there are other ways you can go about finding money for college.
    One star for the great resident halls in Tercero [Wall hall represent!!] and for the great and often free campus resources [tutoring, workshops, etc]. Second star is for the countless employment opportunities on campus [the school is basically run by students on a very flexible work schedule]. Third star is for the really interesting classes you find at Davis that you can't find anywhere else -- Tractor Driving, for example.
    Tips for prospective students

    Davis definitely tests your knowledge as well as your study habits. Coming from a competitive high school, I realized that certain skills [such as cramming, etc] DON'T WORK in a UC-setting. Davis runs on a quarter system, which means every quarter goes by VERY QUICKLY!!! Therefore, it's smart to stay on top of your lessons and make sure you don't fall behind. TAs and Professor office hours are a great resource, use them while they are still around! Also, if you are an incoming freshman, there are lots of resources around campus you can use for tutoring and insight from upperclassmen, especially in your residence hall neighborhoods. Davis is a very friendly neighborhood and someone will always be willing to help.
    It's easy to fall behind, because classes are generally HUGE [300-400 people per chemistry lecture, for example], but it is so important to attend all lectures, discussions, labs, and review sessions. No matter how much you feel like it's not worth it, realize that you're paying money for it and even if you sit through a 50-minute lecture and only learned one single fact, at least you did learn that one single fact. And that fact could just be that last 10-point problem on the final.
    Davis is very different from high school in that two or three tests and assignments can determine your whole grade in the class for the quarter. Therefore, there is no time to waste! The key to success is staying on top of your lessons and finding the right resources. Manage your time well; learn self-control and discipline.
    Don't be afraid to take many classes, because this can help you balance your GPA should you not do so well in one of them. Also, don't forget that an A- no longer means you still have a 4.0!!! Balance out your core-classes and your GE’s; that way, you can have fun while learning things you really need to learn. Sometimes, those fun classes are going to be what guides you in your career-path.
    ALWAYS consult an academic advisor when registration season comes along!! Check www.ratemyprofessors.com beforehand so you know if your possible professor is easy, hard, or one to avoid at all costs! Remember, college can be fun and all, but your first priority is academics. Be on the lookout for internships and clubs that can boost your resume, go to resume-building workshops and interview workshops. School might be tough, but even with the recommended 3 hours of study per 1 hour of class, you can still find a lot of time to have fun with your friends and relax!! :)

    Davis is open to all kinds of students, and has extracurricular activities that cater to all interests and backgrounds. No matter if it's sports, traveling, hiking, exploring, music, art, drama, or reading, every student is bound to find something to their taste. Davis is a very friendly and open community and it's perfect for everyone. You will always find a family there to feel comfortable with, so don't be shy!

    Davis is also very good for the academically driven student. There are so many resources on campus for internships and research opportunities, especially in the sciences. Davis is also unique in that it has its own campus farm and aquaculture, as well as a viticulture facility. The professors on campus love talking about their research and are often open to considering working with an undergraduate student.

    Davis is a great balance between work and fun, so it's perfect for everyone!

    As we all know, UC system has been going through tuition hikes throughout the past 3 years. When i was admitted in Fall of 2007, my tuition per quarter was about $2800; now it has skyrocketed to $4600 per quarter.

    Especially, if you know where to look. Davis really is an amazing school as you get a strange mix of a relaxed school atmosphere and top-notch research professors. This last quarter, in fact, I took international relations from a professor who's the leading expert on the democratic peace process and have even got a chance to go with him and delve into the israeli-palestine conflict. The tools are there, you just need to grab them!

    Besides the masses of tents which line the quad and the administrative buildings, davis really has a nice, beautiful campus. Between the arboretum and the downtown area, Davis really does have a lot to show. As far as student life, despite us being on a faster paced quarter system, it just doesn't feel rushed. Whether its the open, encouraging professors, or what I don't know. Just don't get too comfy!

    Well, i have to say that the occupiers may have it right on one thing, Davis may not be the best place as far as money goes. It is the most expensive UC in the system and it ain't gonna get any cheaper anytime soon ... while the great faculty and atmosphere make up for it, the price does get understandably worrisome.

    While Davis is a great school, and I love being here, I do want to remind prospective students that Ivy legue and private schools arevery much a viable option. Many times these schools have great financial services and are often cheaper than the UCs, but if you want to be in the middle of the occupy movement, then by all means go for it.

    In my opinion, Davis has the most to offer for pre-med and research oriented thinkers. What Davis realy offers here, besides the education is oppurtunity to network and really get on your feet in these areas before you dip headlong into them.

    Am learning a lot

    I am learning a lot in most of my classes. There are tons of interesting classes to take just for GE credit, and then classes for your major. The only thing I feel like I should warn people about is math. If you took a year or even two years of calculus in high school, all the advisers you talk to will tell you to sign up for the first class in the series (whichever one you choose, depends on your major.) This is so that if your AP calculus teacher only taught things that were going to be on the AP test, you might have missed something. However, your first quarter, possibly even two quarters, might be a bit boring in your math class. But I would say do what the advisers say, because any grad school would want to see a full 3 quarters of math :)

    I love it in Davis so much. There are so many people, you're sure to find people you click with. It's not impossible to find people either. Just sign up for something that looks cool or interesting at the ARC or the craft center or something and it's almost impossible not to meet people. Now if you want to meet ~200 people and be overwhelmed for a couple weeks with how many awesome people you're meeting, you could always join the marching band. ;)

    I'm sure you all heard about the pepper spray incident. Well, without going into politics and whatnot of that, part of the reason they were there was because of fee increases. But you have to consider, it is a university in California. And California is not having the best time with money. -__- I'm not going to lie. My fees are hella high! It's not impossible, though.

    JOIN SOMETHING. Find other friends other than the floor of your dorm. I was getting along with people on my floor for a while, but then it seemed like different groups or cliques started forming, and I felt like I was getting left out of things, so I was glad I had my band friends. (So yeah, I'd say join the band. But I know it's not for everyone :P )

    I think probably anyone could find a place in Davis...except maybe business majors since I heard we didn't have that major. People think it's a cow town and that there are no parties or anything. TRUST ME there are parties. definitely. and cow town is not an appropriate name, because the only cows in town are on campus because we are an agricultural school :)

    I really feel that I have been learning a great deal here. My computer science engineering courses have been challenging but packed with knowledge and my teachers have been great at explaining concepts. The homework is lengthy but it helps to pull together the concepts in a way so that they become second nature. I have learned more in one quarter that I thought I would. it has definitely been a great learning experience.

    I love the feel of Davis. The town is great, my peers are helpful and provide a great atmosphere, and the campus is beautiful.     I just finished my first quarter at UC Davis and took an Expository Writing class, Poetry Seminar, Calculus for Biology, and Chemistry. I took Calculus in high school so I did not learn a lot of new material in that class. In my other classes however I really did learn a lot. I was able to improve my writing in both the expository writing class and the poetry seminar and I learned a lot in Chemistry.

    Davis is a small homey town. Over 50 percent of the people living in Davis are college students and some people say it's in the middle of nowhere. I however love it. I love the feeling of not being in the middle of a busy city, the people are nice, downtown is adorable and has great places to eat, the campus is beautiful, I love biking, basically I love everything about Davis. It was simply the perfect fit for me.

    The only way I think you may not be getting your moneys worth is by not getting the classes you need. This however has not happened to me yet. To sign up for classes you get a pass time and pass times are distributed randomly. You may have an earlier one or a later one. If you have a later one you pick your classes after most of the rest of your year. This mean you get last pick and may not get the classes you wanted.

    My biggest suggestion would be to start working ahead from the beginning. The quarter system does not leave room for mistakes, once you are behind it's almost impossible to get back ahead. Everything happens so quickly in the quarter system.

    Students at Davis are very competitive and are naturally smart. Most students are very science focused, so if you want to be a writer and want to be surrounded by students who have the same interest Davis may not be the best college for you. Davis is also not the ideal college for students who love being in the middle of a busy city. Davis is fairly quiet and rural.

    I just finished my first quarter at UC Davis, and I will definitely admit that the courses are much more challenging than high school. I always had straight A's in high school, and that is much more difficult here at UC Davis. However, I really am learning a lot and it's an indescribable experience to be challenged in a new manner. UC Davis is one of the top research universities, and it's incredibly inspiring to learn from professors that are discovering new theories and conducting research right in front of your eyes.

    Some people consider UC Davis to be a bit dry and dull, but I can now say from personal experience that is definitely not the case. I have gone out every weekend, and there are definitely so many things to do. Sacramento is only twenty minutes away, and I go there frequently. UC Davis downtown is also a quaint environment, and it adds to the college-town atmosphere. The food downtown in absolutely amazing, and they have a diverse number of restaurants. Besides that, UC Davis isn't much of a party scene, but there are definitely a good number of social events happening. I recently joined a coed pre-health fraternity, and I am enjoying every minute of it due to the fact that it provides me both an educational and social outlet. If Greek Life isn't your thing, then have no fear because UC Davis has over 100 different clubs. If you want to join a certain club, I'm sure that they would have it. If they don't have it, you are welcome to start your own club, and they will even provide you a starting budget for it. Overall, what I most enjoy about UC Davis would be how nice the people are. If I were to describe UC Davis in one word, it was be chill. Everyone is relaxed and helpful yet also incredibly gifted and smart. We all help each other to succeed, and that leads to our personal success as well. The positive encouragement from all aspects is truly amazing.

    I truly do think that UC Davis provides an extensive amount of resources that definitely making going to college here worth it. Some of these are the Student Health and Wellness Center (where you can go in to receive free massages), Student Academic Success Center (where there is free tutoring and pre-professional graduate advising), Counseling Center (where you can talk to a counselor for no charge), and the ARC (where all students are able to exercise for free). Besides these, there is the Aggie Job Link and Internship and Career Center that help students find volunteer opportunities, research internships, and jobs in general.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't believe the idea that going to a UC will cause you to have impersonal academic experiences with the large lecture halls and lack of personal contact with professors. The lectures may be large, but there is a discussion section each week in which you get personal time with a TA in a group of about twenty students. You can ask any questions that you want at this time, and it's basically a tutoring type of session. I always enjoyed discussion, and office hours are available for both professors and TA's if you ever need more help. Don't believe the idea that you can't get to know a professor; I have been here one quarter, and I already have one professor that knows me by my name. She might even be giving me a research opportunity this following quarter. Therefore, it might be harder than in high school to get to know a professor, but it's definitely not impossible; you simply must just make some extra effort. Also, join many clubs and don't be afraid if you are unsure of a career goal or even your major yet. There's plenty of time to figure it out, and for most science majors, all students take the same general sciences classes their first two years so you can always switch majors later.

    I personally think UC Davis is best for smart students that also know that school isn't everything. Students at UC Davis know how to focus, but they also understand the values of relaxing and enjoying life. Everyone is laidback in the sense of living life to the fullest, but they also understand that school is a priority.

    I love it here! Everybody is so incredibly friendly. If you are ever lost or you can't find a building and ask someone around you, that person will help you with a big smile on their face -- and they don't lie to you about their directions either! Nobody makes me feel left out here; I have never felt more welcome than here at UC Davis. And I love the community! That's actually what pushed me into coming here. I knew the academics are great, so all I needed to know was how the community is.

    Visit the school. Always visit! You know all about the academics at schools; it's easy to research about them. But you never know how you would feel in a school or in the community unless you visit. For me, it was down to two similarly academic schools, and when I visited, it made a HUGE difference.     Like any school in the UC system right now, money is tight. Unfortunately, fees are rising while classes are being slashed. It can make working out your schedule for graduation quite tricky. However, I still feel that the quality of the education that I am getting is well worth the money that I am spending for it.

    Don't be afraid to ask for help. Visit the campus during school if you can. While there, check out some of the buildings/classrooms. Stop random people and ask them how they like it. Most students will talk to you if they can. Be careful during the last ten minutes of each hour before noon, and during the first ten minutes of each hour after noon. Those are the times people are trying to get to class and will have less time to talk.

    Students who are academically motivated, who are going to school to get a great education. There is not necessarily a whole lot to do in Davis in the evenings, but a lot of events do happen regularly on the weekends.

    In terms of my major (Civil Engineering) I feel like I am getting the best education I can from it. It is really no different from the courses of other UCs. But in terms of General Education it's alright. A lot of classes I want to take do not count towards anything and it frustrates me to find GEs that count and that are remotely interesting to me.

    Be aware of the specialties of the departments you are applying for. If there is any research they are doing that you are interested in be sure to apply, otherwise try for another school. Don't choose a school just by how many people apply. That would be the stupid person's route. Find the school that fits for you.

    The professors here are incredibly encouraging and knowledgeable. The best part about being a student here is you will not have to listen to a professor ramble on in a huge lecture hall. Instead, they more often encourage open-minded and dynamic discussions between the students and themselves. They also encourage high quality work from all of their students, and are willing to put time into helping your work improve by the end of the quarter. Another plus is most classes also have TA's, who are a colossal help if a professor seems intimidating, busy, or just not your type of teacher. The TA's are typically graduate students, and are helpful for essay writing, exam preparation, and explaining the materials in more detail.

    The Davis environment is (almost unbelievably) safe, welcoming, relaxing, and stimulating. There is a small town feel, so it is easy to feel a part of the community. There are a lot of activities available based on your interests, and if you find there is something missing, the community is very open to supporting a new club or activity on campus. My favorite aspects of Davis are the Arboretum, a relaxing park area with a pond and bike/walking trails, and the annual community events like Picnic Day and Whole Earth Festival where it seems everyone in Davis gets together to have a good time.

    Unfortunately tuition is on the rise, however UC Davis is not the only school to increase tuition. On the plus side, there are plenty of services on campus that are included in tuition that are excellent resources to take advantage of in order to get the most out of your money. The ARC is a great place to exercise and is free to students. There is also the House and the student counseling center where you can get advise and support from professionals and students if you are stressed or anxious, or worse, from school, work, and family commitments. Academically, there is the library which is also connected to the other UC's, and also plenty of research opportunities. There is also the writing and tutoring center, where they help edit and revise essays, or tutor students in a particular subject. And I cannot forget to mention that UC Davis is a top 50 school, so a degree from here goes a long way, despite the price!
    Tips for prospective students

    Perhaps the most important thing to know about the Davis community is we love to ride bikes. The campus is pretty big, and cars are restricted on the central campus, so about 90 percent (my personal guess) of all students ride bikes between classes everyday. It is the best way to get around and is environmentally friendly, so if you are walking to your class, you had better watch out for bikers! They go fast and tend to travel in clusters. If you do use a bike, some practice before the quarter starts will help you avoid bike collisions that can be painful.

    Take a diverse set of classes, especially your freshman year, in order to learn about a wide range of topics you wont get from your major requirements. Also, going to professors' office hours can bring a C grade to an A with the added assistance. When you go to a professor's office hours, they know you are putting extra effort into the class, and will taking that into consideration when they grade exams and essays, or are considering participation grades.

    Great for students planning to go to graduate school, and who work well in a fast paced environment since UC Davis is on the quarter system and there are three 9 week long quarters, instead of two 18 week long semesters.

    Most people say it was well worth the tuition. If i were to stay in CA I would definitely attend this school if admitted, even if the cost of CA living is high. I won't be applying for they require 2 years of language due to the new MAP program. I instead used the time to take AP classes, but i suppose that is not good enough. Seems silly to have that kind of requirement, especially when students were pretty much forced into the deal. I don't agree with it for I'd much rather have taken another language while in college. (they only offer french and spanish at my school)

    Although I thought it would be a lot like high school, I was completely wrong. The pace is exhausting - quarter system ensures that you are always on your feet. You learn a decent amount in these short 10 week intervals however, a lot of professors seem to not know how to teach very well, or rather, convey the point of their lectures well.

    But, there are some upsides to the system as well. There is an abundant amount of interesting classes you can take, like Dinosaurs and Mythology.

    I lived in the dorms the first year, Cuarto to be exact. And I loved every second of it. It was a suite configuration, so I was living with 5 other people and had a living room and our own bathroom. Having this type of dorm made me grow up, because I had to clean everything. There was no janitor that came in and cleaned the bathroom for me. It gave me a homey feeling that I probably would not have if I had a traditional dorm (a room and sharing a bathroom with the floor).

    The food was pretty decent too. It makes healthy eating easy, to help you avoid the freshman 15.

    Because it's a UC, it's a bit on the pricey side. Out of pocket, I paid about $3500 my freshman year with the help of all the grants I got. The university itself gave me about $1500 last year. I refused to get loans.

    You should visit the college first and see if you like it. There are a lot of trees, and a even more bikers. You'll probably be one yourself, so don't forget to practice when you're home.

    If you don't get a bike, there are bus systems that you are able to utilize for free with your student ID card, but sometimes it's a bit inconvenient.

    Shopping is a hassle. To get good deals, we had to go to Target. And that takes about 45 minutes to bike to. However, a Forever 21 was built pretty close to the dorms, so that's a plus. Don't think oh, but everyone will be wearing the same thing if I shop there, because trust me, they won't.

    Also, if you're worried about the cow smell, it really isn't that bad. You get over it, you grow up.

    UC Davis is one of the greatest things that have ever happened to me. I love to party, but I also wanted an academic environment where I would not become peer pressured into spending too little time on school. I was also looking for a large university with an opportunity to meet other students and a small university feel. Davis is wonderful and offers great freshman programs and themed dorm living, enabling me to befriend my whole building. The gym is amazing, and inter mural sports are the thing to do. Frats throw theme parties and everyone is invited. Free drinks for those over 21 of course.

    What other school offers the required, General classes as well as fun electives such as tractor driving? UC Davis has an extensive list of available classes that allow you to pursue many subjects and allow for you to experience new things. To make things even better, the professors at UCD are extremely accommodating and willing to aid students. Every class I have taken thus far has challenged me in new ways because the professors aim to have their students understand the material at a high level. Classes get tough, but what you learn from them is well worth it!

    The largest student organization in the WORLD is on this campus. The best part? It is completely FREE to participate in! The organization is called the Aggie Pack. The Aggie Pack is all students who get in free to all home athletic games and cheer on the Ags. Getting involved with the Aggie Pack has been the greatest experience of my college career. We pull pranks on our bosses at two in the morning, lay out on the football field for star gazing late at night, and have an amazing time meeting new people. Outside of Aggie Pack events, there is a small town filled with enjoyable activities. Davis has bars for those above the age 21, Line dancing at The Graduate four nights a week, Salsa dancing, and many opportunities to get involved with sports. I have been here a year and played capture the flag at nine at night against Sacramento State, I watched the Ags win football game while getting completely soaked by rain, and got to be the mascot (Gunrock) on many occasions. UC Davis loves to get students involved, and the town offers plenty to do while you complete your education goals.

    College in increasingly expensive. UC Davis, unfortunately, is no exception, but the school is more than worth the cost! Many activities are offered to students to get involved and meet new people. Not to mention, UC Davis is one on the only schools that lets students get into ALL sports events for FREE! Even if sports are not your favorite, participating in the Aggie Pack is worth your time! Academically, the teachers are very helpful and the amount of classes available is phenomenal.

The staff are always more than happy to help out the students on campus if they can, and the organizations/clubs on campus are always looking for new faces to join and help out.     UC Davis has the major I want and it is a very great school to learn because of its relaxed atmosphere. Moreover during my visits, I met many friendly students and staff ready to help you if you need anything. The school is not far from the Bay Area and Sacramento, hence giving you a great variety of internship opportunities, If you like animals, the school has a great biological veterinarian program. Davis is definitely a great school.

    After looking at everything online, I really think I'm going to learn a lot more here than I ever did in my community college. Their professors are better, they have more classes available for my major, and the campus is a calm place where someone can relax and learn.

    I think I'm going to enjoy attending UC Davis a lot! People are so much more friendly here than at my community college. There is so much to do, but not so much that you can't focus on your studies.

    Undergrad classes are ridiculously large, but it IS a UC after all. That said, the teachers here are both phenomenal and horrible. The quality of classes here compared to ones at junior classes are much higher; teachers go more in depth and explore the subject more thoroughly to facilitate a deeper understanding of the subject. They encourage you to think outside the box and really make sure that you understand what is going on before moving on. Plus, the huge variety of elective classes allow you to learn things that you probably never would have wanted to know in the first place, which is a good thing since it broadens your horizons a little bit.

    Davis was my 3rd choice, I didn't get the greatest first impression and it was too close to home for my taste. But the first night here changed my mind completely. The people here are so open and friendly that it's hard not to fall in love with the school and its people. There's always something to do, even though outsiders may think that it's all about cow tipping and night ins on the weekends. The plethora of clubs and other activities allow you to really get the full experience of being in college. And the fact that Davis is a college town is quite charming.

    Some teachers make you question the amount of money you're paying for their class but there are others that are like, Wow, (s)he's one of the best teachers ever, this is such an enlightening class. The living facilities are well worth the money for freshmen, the new buildings are really nice and roomy, unlike the stereotypical dorms you see in movies. The food at the Dining Commons is pretty delicious, it's easy to see why Freshman 15 exists. The ARC definitely makes tuition fees worth it, no other gym really compares.

    Learn time management! High school teachers stress it a lot for a reason. When I came to college, I figured that it'd be just like high school; I could do the minimum and cram and I'd still get the same high grades as I did before. I found myself swamped with homework and struggling to keep up with the pace of the quarter system. And therefore, my grades quickly went down the drain like most of the first year students here. The freedom is irresistible but the key to a good college experience is being able to balance the social and academic parts of your life.

    UC Davis is great for the type of people who like the laid back chill environment with the occassional crazy party on the weekends. People here are extremely focused but not as competitive as other UC's, where they compete against each other. Here, I feel like we are just competing against ourselves.

    UC Davis is a beautifully diverse and educationally based campus. Not only are the classes here teaching me about my major and helping me achieve my goals and closer to the future I want but I am also learning about others and their cultural differences and how they are an integral part of society. Although I learned much about other cultures throughout my life, the influence and need of diversity has not made an impact in the rest of my life like it is doing on campus.

    Davis is a beautiful city where every body can get along and enjoy themselves in whatever activity they wish. Nature is immersed throughout the campus and the city of Davis and even if country life isn't for you the capitol is only twenty minutes away and San Francisco is only an hour and a half away. There are even Zip Cars that can be rented by the hour or by the day that can be used if you cannot bring your car up or if you do not have a car.

    Davis a great college town that caters to its students. The prices for the classes and for housing is pretty cheap in price but not in quality. Downtown Davis has wonderful shops run by the locals and the prices are all based on what a typical college student can afford.

    Before you go and choose a college it is wise to look at everything the college and the surrounding area offers so that you are sure you are really prepared to spend two to four years or more in that area. Once you have chosen your college, make a check list of all the things you will be needing in order to survive away from your home. Remember, it is never too early to save money. It is better to have a little extra money each month then to have to slide by with what the college and FAFSA supply you. Other than that, enjoy you life as a college student, make friends, and go to learn.

    Davis is great for every kind of student out there. Students who like peace and quiet will find plenty of that all around the city of Davis and throughout the campus. Those that like a lot of noise and enjoy the presence of hundreds of people or more will enjoy the sports, the parties put on by the fraternities and sororities, and the events the school puts on are spectacular. There are plenty of animals for the animal lovers but they are not just roaming out and about for those that prefer not to run into an animal. Although the squirrels are something us humans cannot control. Davis encompasses nature and the future in a well blended atmosphere.

    Am learning a lot

    Academics at UC Davis challenge, stimulate and inspire. The school offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate programs — the largest variety on any University of California campus. Many of the programs are nationally ranked — not surprising when you consider the number of internationally known, award-winning faculty who bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom. Even with all of the majors that are available, you can still be undeclared, but if you do choose a major, you can still pursue other interests that are not a part of that major. I am currently majoring in Biological Sciences, but I can still my other interests. I love learning about artifacts especially with human remains, just like the tv show Bones, so I am taking Archaeology; I also like human behavior so I am taking psychology. You can learn a lot about all of the different types of careers/fields you are interested.

    At UC Davis, all the students like to stay active. The school has one of the largest athletics programs in the country, with more than 500 student-athletes participating in 23 varsity sports. There are also 33 student club sports and 14 intramural sports. The school is a member of NCAA Division I, with most teams competing in the Big West Conference. There is also a superb recreational facilities including Aggie Stadium for football and lacrosse. Not only is there all kinds of sporting events, there are also off campus events and cultural festivals. Restaurants that are extremely close to the campus organize events for all college students almost every weekend. There are also festivals held on campus to encourage envolvement in all kinds of different cultures and events.

    I currently live on campus and a year's tuition including all housing costs is only about 20,000 dollars, so it is not as expensive as it could be based on the excellent opportunities you get here. There are all kinds of counseling centers to help you succeed with your education. There is also free tutoring in almost all subjects and even workshops to help you take tests if that is something you struggle with. The school offers so much to help you succeed in your college education. And if you decide to not live on campus, the cost is cut in half but you still get access to all the workshops and tutoring just for being enrolled in the school.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are interested in attending UCD, I recommend that you do. It has opened my world to include so many different things. In my small town, there was not that much diversity, but here there is something new to see and learn and admire everyday. I would begin to save some money for textbooks at the beginning of each quarter so that you don't have to put it on your credit card like I did, but the prices are still really good. Buy used too because the price is cut in half, and you can get about 75% of your money back if you have them buy back your books when you are done with them. Live on campus in the segundo area if you can because it is closest to the campus so you can sleep in as much as possible.

    This school is great for all students, but especially for the students who lived in a somewhat rural area before coming to college. If you lived in a hustle and bustle type area before, this may not be the school for you because you get close to everyone who goes here; you become one great big family. If this all sounds good to you then this is the perfect school for you.

    I find my classes here challenging and engaging. Most professors I have encountered really care about their students and are very accessible via email and during office hours, where they have often provided me with additional help and information. There are more than 100 majors to choose from and many minors as well, including some really specific areas like Environmental Toxicology.

    I absolutely love Davis. There are so many ways to get involved on campus: Greek Life here is fun and laid-back and the student government, ASUCD, has many positions available even for first-year students. There is also a club for every interest, many visual and performing art opportunities, and numerous volunteer groups. The campus is beautiful and the town is very welcoming and picturesque - everyone rides their bikes, and it makes for a great environment to live in.

    Though the UC system keeps raising fees, I feel I'm still getting a great education for my money. There are tons of activities and amenities included in student fees as well, including the Activities and Recreation Center, the Rec. Pool, and limited free printing each quarter. However, tuition is not by the unit, so you pay the same amount for 12 to at least 18 units. Housing in Davis, while not cheap, is not terribly expensive. Off-campus you can share a room for $300 or get your own for $600, not including PG&E, internet, etc.
    Tips for prospective students

    Consider applying for the Davis Honors Challenge - you get to take one smaller class each quarter, and you get priority registration after your first quarter, making it much easier to get the classes you need and times you want.
    Read the Davis Wiki - it has information on anything you can imagine Davis-related. Browse information on all the restaurants downtown, check out the pages for big Davis events like Picnic Day and Whole Earth Festival, and make sure you scroll down and read the comments at the bottom. This can give you a great feel for what people like and don't like about everything Davis.
    Great for these types of students

    Laid-back - Davis is noncompetitive, with a smaller, calmer social scene than a lot of other large schools.
    Green - Everyone bikes around Davis, or takes the big red Unitrans buses. The dining commons and other locations on campus compost. There are a ton of environmental academic programs, clubs, and activities to get involved in.
    Science-y - Davis' science departments are well respected and an area of pride for the University. These classes are in the least danger of facing cuts and research for the sciences is a major area of income for the University. As a research university, professors are required to conduct research as well, so there are lots of opportunities to intern or get lab experience right on campus.
