Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The only reason why I put less than 5 stars here is because--as with all colleges--you really must put forth your own effort to learn. The teachers here are amazing, as are the course subjects, but your education is still in your own hands.
Am enjoying being here I love DU--it has a small school atmosphere (smaller classes are the optimal way to learn), plenty of fantastic resources (like the gym, cheap or free cultural events, location, RTD passes etc), great teachers, beautiful campus...! Especially the place to be if you want to study abroad (with the Cherrington Program), or major in International Studies, Business or HRTM.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, but presents you with plenty of resources to get scholarships to get you through.
Tips for prospective students DU is a little more competitive than other schools just because it is so small, so apply early. Also, we have 3/2 degree programs (3 years undergrad 2 years of grad for undergraduate tuition to get your masters in 5 years) in fields like International Studies and Social Work that you may take advantage of, which is an amazing deal.
Great for these types of students -Those who love both the outdoors and the city
-Those who want smaller classes
-Those who are prepared to work hard for scholarships and in major classes
-Majors in business, international studies or HRTMLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It isn't hard to learn a lot if you go to classes and pay enough attention to your environment. It's also easy to learn a lot of lessons outside of the classroom by volunteering for events and getting involved with on-campus groups.
Am enjoying being here I wouldn't pick any other school for my college education.
Bang for the buck Although at times it may seem like the University is missing a service for students, it's there but you may be looking in the wrong places. The University provides many services and is still adapting to accomodate services that were not previously offered.
Tips for prospective students While it is easy to critique schools for their athletics, facilities and policies, it is important to remember that college is about receiving a higher education. The University of Denver has all of the little things covered as well as providing a wholesome education.
Great for these types of students I think that students who are interested in learning, self-motivated and care for reaching out to a larger community would find the University of Denver an excellent fit.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You will only learn a lot if you show up to class, are actively engaged in lectures, and go the extra step to talk to your professors or do outside research on the subject matter you are learning about. Personally, I love to learn and I find the professors and teaching assistants are readily available and love to help you when you are struggling or discuss more about lectures when you are really interested in the material.
Am enjoying being here I love DU!!!! I was never one of those people who 'had a feeling' that this was the right school for me. I made a list of different aspects and compared the final two schools I could attend...DU won by a few points, but this was one of the best decisions I have ever made! There are so many exciting opportunities. I have toured a recycling plant, gone to an art walk downtown, gone on a weekend trip with my hall to a mountain cabin, seen Rob Thomas in concert (for $5), gotten involved in four campus organizations, met some amazing people, and the list goes on. I truly enjoy not only attending classes, but getting involved and being a part of the University of Denver.
Bang for the buck DU is a very expensive school (partly because it is a private university), but I received lots of financial aid/scholarships so I pay for less than half of the tuition. Applying for scholarships can really pay off. Although tuition is a bit high, the opportunities at DU are really amazing and if you take advantage of your resources you will know that every penny is worth it.
Tips for prospective students Visit campus before you decide if it's the right place for you (and this goes for any university you are considering). On your visit, ask questions, go on the tour, eat in the dining hall, and maybe even sit in on a class. Every school has a different atmosphere, whether it be the dining style, the size of classes, the population of the school, or the surrounding attractions and it is important to experience this for a few hours (and maybe snap a couple pictures to remind yourself of your visit) in order to get a better feel for what life might be like. DU is a smaller school, so you won't get the giant city feel, but downtown Denver is only a few stops away on the light rail so you can have the best of both worlds. DU also lets you spend the night with current students to give you a perspective on dorm life.
Great for these types of students DU caters to a wide range of students and although it is stereotyped for people of a higher socioeconomic status, I don't fit this statistic and I have found my niche and met people like myself who apply for every scholarship possible, so anyone can find their own place to excel at DU. The number of extra-curricular activities offered almost guarantees you will find something that interests you and a group of an organization that supports your interests and values. The educational rigor is not that of an ivy league school, but as a high school honors/AP student I am still challenged at DU without participating in their honors program. I find just the right balance between studying and social activities without being overwhelmed. DU is not for people who are going to party every night, but you don't need to spend every waking hour (and even hours you should be sleeping) studying.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot DU gives you the opportunity to apply the knowledge you learn in classroom to the local community around you. The university upholds many professional relationships with the city of Denver and the surrounding area, which allows students to also develop networking and see how the skills are applied in everyday life. A lot of the professors are also highly respected in their field and are still practicing their work, not just teaching in the classroom.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE spending time on campus!! It is absolutely beautiful with its red-brick pathways, ponds and fountains, and well maintained landscape. Since there isn't a ridiculous amount of students, it is easy to get around and everyone is fairly friendly. There is wireless Internet in every building along with comfortable places to relax, catch up with friends, or study. You can always find something to end no matter where you are on campus.
Bang for the buck DU is fairly expensive compared to other schools, however you don't have to worry about overwhelming large class sizes like other public universities. The University of Denver also offers better financial aid, grants and scholarships to incoming students because they recognize how high tuition is in comparison. I have a friend that went to a public University in Colorado and ended up paying more than I do even though overall general tuition is twice the price of DU!!
Tips for prospective students I highly recommend that visit campus if you can. I visited as many as I could, but once I visited DU, I could just feel how right it felt. I know it sounds corny, but you'll know when you step foot there.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some classes are more challenging than others. The most important thing is that the quarter system makes things move about twice as fast so you can't skip a class and get away with it; we also get THREE terms per year as opposed to two - learn more faster! The professors are knowledgable and very approachable; they always have office hours where you chat with them. The Honors program here is pretty rigorous as well, academically, though of course, it's not Ivy League. Small classes are pretty awesome, my largest class has 45 people in it, my smallest 15.
Am enjoying being here The hockey games make football games seem totally overrated, students are very involved on campus, and most humanities majors have NO CLASS ON FRIDAYS. Students get RTD passes, which makes it super easy to get to anywhere - 16th Street Mall (my favorite place to shop and people-watch) is only 15 minutes away by lightrail.
Bang for the buck It's a little bit expensive, especially the mandatory residence halls and the meal plans. Pricey tuition as well for the education received.
Tips for prospective students Take AP classes! DU does its best to meet your AP credits, and thus exempting you from taking otherwise required Writing Seminars and Common Curriculum requirements. Unfortunately, I didn't take any AP or IB or college credits, so I have to take the prerequisites. If you can, DO take community college or AP/IB classes.
Great for these types of students There is a demographic for every sort of student here: it's OKAY to be a nerd here. There do tend to be students coming from higher socioeconomic statuses, but I for one am one of the many students who is taking out loans and finding scholarships to pay for college. There is a huge party scene on campus, but you can definitely choose whether or not to participate. Great all-around experience.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The class sizes and course curricula look fantastic. There seems to be an excellent ratio of students to professors and a huge number of groups and clubs to participate it to expand your horizons.
Will enjoy being here Campus is beautiful and centrally located. Plenty of options for off campus housing for my wife and I. The degree programs look interesting and the professors I spoke with were fun and engaging.
Bang for the buck Unless you have $4,400 dollars of your own money to commit, they won't even look at you.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you can provide at least $4,400 of your own money each semester. This money CAN come from scholarships and the like, but you will most defiantly want to ensure that income or find yourself all on your own.
Great for these types of students Traditional students only! Non-traditional or working professionals will find themselves hampered by the school's lack of evening or weekend classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Having almost completed my freshman year, I have had an excellent educational experience thus far. Most of my teachers have been engaging, interesting, and extremely knowledgeable in their field. The classes have a good educational basis, but are usually based on interesting topics--I took a literary seminar on Madness in Literature first quarter. The only reason I don't give DU five stars is because I have had at least one professor every quarter that is not extremely efficient. Most of the time, they're newer professors so they clearly know what they're talking about, they're just not great at conveying their knowledge unto us. I'm sure if you put in the extra effort and spoke with the professor (which is very easy), you wouldn't have that problem.
Am enjoying being here The quality of life at DU is great. We get lots of perks with our tuition like free gym access, a pass to the lightrail, free movies and concerts, etc.. The campus is located right outside of Denver which is a nice, small metropolis with lots to do, and the mountains are really nearby (most students go skiing on the weekends in the winter). For a moderately small campus, there's a shockingly large range of activities and clubs to join and they're all very accessible, which is good for somebody like me who likes to do a lot of different things. The dorms are nice, food is good, and buildings are constantly being updated. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy being here.
Bang for the buck Private schools in general are ridiculously expensive, but in my experience, DU has been awesome about giving merit-based financial aid. I received the mid-level scholarship just by applying, which took off $15,000 from the cost of going here. Ultimately, the reason I came here was because of that scholarship. They also spend about $1 million per year to keep the Cherrington Global Scholars program going, which allows students with a high enough GPA to go abroad for no extra cost. Because of that, I can understand the high cost.
Tips for prospective students Go on campus tours. I managed to narrow down 12 prospective schools to 5 just from going on a few tours--once you realize what type of school does or does not work for you, you can apply that to other similar schools and narrow it down easily.
Great for these types of students It feels like there are a lot of athletes, greek life students, and we have a huge international program with lots of students from Asia. However, being none of these, I've still found my niche and people with similar interests to me. DU is definitely the best university in Colorado so we attract some pretty intelligent and talented students. Its been great getting to meet so many people with such a wide variety of interests and backgrounds.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Denver is an excellent institution, and while I am only a freshman taking the general required classes, I am still learning something new everyday. All my classes are taught by professors, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my French teacher was a native speaker.
I also have a job on campus as a lab assistant in our psychology department, where I am already getting research experience. There are truly countless possibilities here at DU.Am enjoying being here I love being in Colorado, close to the mountains but at the same time living in a big city with tons of stuff to do. From art walks to concerts to campus events, the only way you'll get bored is if you don't open your eyes and see what's around you. Transportation is also extremely easy, with buses, but most notably the light rail. Take the light rail north and you'll be in downtown Denver and the 16th Street mall; take it south and Park Meadows Mall is right in front of you. Need I say more?
Bang for the buck The University of Denver is private school, as everyone else has mentioned, but not only are private schools more expensive, they have more money to give out. There are incredible scholarship opportunities everywhere, you only have to look for them. (What else is new, huh?) But all joking aside, I couldn't be more grateful for the scholarships which gave me the opportunity to come to DU.
Tips for prospective students Have fun and don't stress. Once you're in, enjoy it. College involves work, but it's also a lot of fun and full of opportunity. Everyone needs to find the school that fits you and 'feels' right, but DU has a niche for every kind of person. Visit us for yourself and see what you think!
Great for these types of students -Anyone who even remotely enjoys the outdoors/Anyone who'd like to hear elk bugle
-Any hockey players and/or lovers
-Anyone who wants to watch zombie movies in their sociology class
-Anyone who wants to study crazy weather (seriously)
-Anyone who likes art (art walks anyone?)

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Denver is a great school to go to even if your high school didn't prepare you well for college work. Because the University of Denver is on the quarter system you get to take a lot of different classes and study a lot of different things. The class sizes are usually small and you have the opportunities to get to know all of your professors if you choose to make the effort.
Tips for prospective students Defiantly apply to be in one of the Living and Learning Communities for your first year. You will learn a lot and it making new friends is easier this way. Look at the general requirements as a chance to broaden your base of knowledge outside your field and improve on skills you are not strong in (i.e. writing). Definitely do the readings that you are assigned because if you want to learn the material you have to put in the work.
Academic Rigor You have the opportunity to improve on skills you need for college that your high school did not prepare you for such as critical thinking and writing. There is a lot of challenging work and high expectations for professors.
Dorm Life The actual dorms are really small and the first year students don't get kitchens. The walls are really think and so you hear everything and everyone on your floor. The people you meet can end up being your best friends for the rest of college or just people you hung out with first year. I recommend the living and learning communities, they are a chance to get closer to people on your dorm floor (you all have a class together all year).
Food and Dining We have two main dining halls, one on each side of campus. The food is by Sodexo. It isn't the best but it also isn't the worst. The vegetarian options are limited. The pizza is good. The staff is really nice and friendly in all the dining halls and cafes.
What to do for fun We are right next to the light rail so going out is easy. There is always stuff going on right on campus though, such as Thursday night movies in the auditorium (mostly newer movies not always on video yet). There is also a park right near campus that a lot of students go to for running, sports, relaxation.
Bang for the buck I really believe that the University of Denver is worth the money. I know that I have learned a lot and that most of the professors really care about what they are teaching and are really passionate about the learning experiences of the students. They really want to help us.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have May Days which I love. It is a week long event on campus with many different activities such as pancake breakfast on the lawn one morning to a head phone disco at night.
Great for these types of students Really great for students who do not feel prepared for higher education but want to commit themselves to doing it anyway. I went to a public high school and was not challenged very much. I came into college not knowing how to write well, think critically, or have academic discussions. I have learned how to do all of these things while at the University of Denver and while studying abroad.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs for almost anything, ranging from the Alpine club which organizes outdoor activities like ski trips and hiking, the multi-cultural organizations like the Black Student Alliance or Asian Student Alliance, and the campus event planning organizations like the University of Denver Programing Board.
Greek Life Most of the Greek life is traditional and multi-cultural sororities and fraternities are just starting to show up on campus (2 sororities, one multi-cultural one Latino based, one Latino based fraternity).
Campus Safety Campus safety is really good. We have emergency phones all over campus. The campus safety number, office, and officers are easily accessible. They are also really friendly and can and will give people rides across campus at night if they do not feel safe walking. It isn't a particularly dangerous campus, and there aren't a lot of incidents.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm disappointed with the quality of my writing teachers, and find that I have less homework than I did in high-school, and I'm correcting my history teachers.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and well-maintained, but the demographic is highly conservative, which doesnt fit me.
Bang for the buck The common curriculum requirements are high, which is why you take 16 credits per trimester, which is 48 credits per year, which is more than most places. However, it is very expensive.
Tips for prospective students Do a lot of research.
Great for these types of students Conservative, high-income, business students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot DU is a school that will challenge you, no matter which field you pursue. The course matter is more in depth than to that of which you have ever been exposed, but the way of thinking that the school gives you is unmatched. For example, if you take a writing class, you will not only learn how to be a better writer and write rhetorically with more aptitude, but you will analyze conversations, artwork, movies, and music with the same mindset to come to greater insight. DU undoubtedly teaches you analytical thinking.
Am enjoying being here I could not be happier with a choice of college. The facilities are fantastic, the professors are clear and helpful, and the people are incredibly social if that is what you are looking for. The thing that I love the most is that I get a fantastic education and mental challenge throughout the week, and then get to socialize every day during lunch and after class. On top of that, DU weekends are seldom boring. A party is never too far away if that is what you are looking for, but relaxation and solitude is equally available if that plays more to your favor.
Bang for the buck It is a private school. Therefore, it will be more expensive than in-state public schools or community colleges. However, a degree from a private school, such as the University of Denver, will automatically look better than that of a public University. Additionally, DU offers academic scholarships to a majority of its applicants automatically and the amount is dependent on one's high school grades and extracurricular activities. Furthermore, the school provides a vast amount of resources at your discretion including a study-aboad program in which the school pays for you to travel anywhere in the world and take classes and have fun.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering the University of Denver as your choice in schooling, the most important thing is to have an idea what your major will be and then take a tour of the campus. The reason for this is that you will then be able to make a decision on which dorm is closest to your classes. For example, Bio students have a very short walk if they live in JMAC while Political Science majors are recommended to live in Halls.
Great for these types of students If you want to expand your mind, come to DU. If you want to be surrounded by sporting events and social opportunities, come to DU. If you want to go skiing/snowboarding over winter, come to DU. If you want to study-abroad, come to DU. If you like sunny days, come to DU.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With the quarter system, you will be amazed on how enormous your learnings will be. All you need to do is keep up and put real effort because every class, you will have something new to learn.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE DU. There are so many things to do - so many organizations to be involved with, many events, etc. Great campus and great people.
Bang for the buck DU is very expensive HOWEVER after the scholarships that they offer, their price is very affordable that it seems that you are paying for a public school with a private school quality. They do give 100% tuition assistance to some students which is very awesome.
Tips for prospective students Apply early so you won't miss all the opportunities available and scholarships offered. Apply for FAFSA ASAP, this is very important for federal assistance. Make good grades in your high school and have a lot of extra curricular activities and don't forget to volunteer. This will increase your chances of being accepted.
Great for these types of students Basically, all types of students. Students who want to have a high quality education, experience college life, create lasting friendships, and of course who loves mountains and outdoor activities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences In three simple letters: AAA+. I am attending The Women's College at the University of Denver and feel it is a most wonderful school. I highly recommend it to any woman who is considering going back to school. The school and support system is second to none!
Tips for prospective students Have a plan and stick to it!
Academic Rigor Rated 5-Star. Hard work pays off - no slacking allowed at this school.
Dorm Life Unknown. I live off campus.
Food and Dining We're well fed, especially on Saturdays. Completely catered luncheons are wonderful!
What to do for fun Lots of activities and are well-posted on-line.
Bang for the buck No questions asked: this is an expensive school. Private schools generally are. However, the education is well worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Unknown to me.
Great for these types of students Non-traditional students are well-supported. The course curriculum are well mapped out and leave little room for error.
Clubs and Activities Many; again well-listed on-line.
Greek Life Unknown to me.
Campus Safety Excellent. Notifications in the event of crimes happening on or around the campus are a wonderful safety tool!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Denver offers an abundance of opportunities, such as study abroad, club and intramural sports, student groups and volunteer opportunities, etc. There are hundreds of ways to get involved here! DU is the perfect size as well, less than 5000 undergraduate students, and the class sizes are roughly 20 students each.
Tips for prospective students Come with an optimistic and open attitude to try new things! Prepare yourself for the popularity of Greek Life that consumes way too many students. Too many DU students give off a privileged, snobby feeling sometimes, so watch out for that and avoid those people.
Academic Rigor Class sizes are small, generally 15-20 students per class, so the professors get to know you and expect you to do a good job. Attendance is key, you can't miss class very often because DU works on the quarter system, which is 10 weeks long, so missing one day is like missing a week of school that is on the semester system. The quarter system is fast paced.
Dorm Life For the most part, freshmen dorms are old. However, the dorms are sophomores and juniors are like fancy hotels with air conditioning, wifi, kitchens, balconies, etc. The main complaint of students who live in dorms is the cafeteria food - way over priced and poor quality (provided by the Sodexo company).
Food and Dining Like I said before, food and dining are students' biggest complaint here, which I think is arbitrary (its food!). The dining options are not very healthy or flavorful for that matter. Also the hours of operation are strange and very inconvenient.
What to do for fun DU has a beautiful campus, which allows for playing yard games, longboarding on the brick roads and taking a nice stroll. Conveniently located near the Rocky Mountains, many students enjoy skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports.
Bang for the buck Everything is overpriced here! From textbooks to DU apparel, from food to dorm expenses, tuition, parking passes, DU fees - everything! The only good deal is that students can buy $5 hockey tickets (for mediocre seats).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The camp out for free/discounted season hockey tickets.
Clubs and Activities Great variety!
Greek Life Overrated
Campus Safety Campo is very safe and involved. There are security phones around campus, Rape, Aggression and Defense classes available, the DU Shuttle safely transfers students around campus at night, and Campus Safety is always driving around.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Great academics. Great extra-curricular activities and social scene. Is known slightly as a party school or ski school.
Academic Rigor Many wonderful, interesting classes to choose from, whether they are a part of your major or not. Challenging, but very beneficial.
Dorm Life The dorms are always buzzing with activity and are very fun to be a part of, but sometimes private space and quiet study time is sacrificed.
Food and Dining The food is okay, but nothing great. There are a lot of choices and options, but the meal plans are also pretty expensive.
What to do for fun DU is super close to downtown Denver, with free public transportation available to students. We also have the wonderful Rocky Mountains just 30 minutes away. There is also a big variety of fun activities to do on campus.
Clubs and Activities With so many different clubs, there is something for everyone!
Greek Life A lot of DU students are in Greek life, but there is no pressure to be involved and it doesn't hurt your social life if you are not.
Campus Safety Some incidents of crime, but nothing too bad. We do have a Campus Safety department that is very involved with these matters.

What to do for fun there are all kinds of events going on all the time. free movies, concerts, sports events, parties... there's something for everyone.
Bang for the buck you can definitely see where all the money goes. tuition is very expensive but the school is very nice and has a huge budget for paying for students to do fun things.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus winter carnival! over a thousand students go to winter park ski resort for the weekend to have fun and enjoy du's discounted prices.
Great for these types of students great for all students!
Clubs and Activities there are all kinds of clubs, but it can be overwhelming. many students sign up for too much and over extend themselves.
Campus Safety campus safety is very good about reporting and dealing with incidents, which are few and far between.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of denver is an academically challenging school that has a wide variety of courses. its medium size allows for a comfortable setting for students. du runs on a quarter system which creates a fast paced curriculum that keeps you interested.
Tips for prospective students make sure to keep up on your work. falling behind can be overwhelming to deal with because of the quarter system. also, get to know your teachers and ask for extra help whenever you need it. take charge of your education and you will get a lot out of this university.
Academic Rigor the courses can be fast paced but for the most part very manageable. some general or foundation courses can be less demanding than other upper level classes.
Dorm Life the dorms provide a community in which you can be comfortable and thrive in. depending on your study habits, they may not be the best place to do schoolwork.
Food and Dining the food is good quality but can can get boring after a while. there is enough variety though that you can normally find something that looks good to you. the dining hall hours can be inconvenient sometimes.
What to do for fun the lightrail is located at the base of campus. this makes accessing the city of denver very easy. there are also many great parks and opportunities to explore nature. whether it be taking a hike or going to the mountains to ski, there are plenty of outdoor activities.
Bang for the buck du is very expensive. in my opinion the price is too high, but the quality of education is good.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are three main events (homecoming, winter carnival, and may days) that the university of denver sponsors each year. sports events, especially hockey games, are also popular activities.
Great for these types of students students who want a smaller university that still provides a lot of opportunities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences lack of classes
decent professors
beautiful campus with good living environmentTips for prospective students get to know professors. talk to them. study hard. then you will get good grades.
campus is truly phenomenal. beautiful environment with pretty clean living environment.
might not be able to get into all the classes that you want since du is lack of classes, but most of the time you will be fine finding your expected classes.Academic Rigor hospitality management major is amazing. if you are planning to major in hospitality management, definitely attend du. a lot of amazing opportunities and skillful professors who can encourage you to get good internships and jobs in the future.
Dorm Life cleaning ladies come everyday except weekends. the dorm life would be better if they come everyday to clean each floor. other than that, everything seems perfect so far. (you might need a great amount of concentration skills since there are some students who don't study and do pranks even after the quiet hours.)
Food and Dining upper class dining halls are amazing.
freshmen dining hall is not as good as the upper class dining halls. What to do for fun join cooking club. join choir. there are so many clubs and organizations that you can participate. if you don't like them, it's your decision to quit. you have freedom.
Bang for the buck you can take a lot of great classes. however, despite of the fact that you pay so much for the college, you might feel you don't deserve as much as you expect. food at the dining hall is not the best compare to other colleges and sometimes you don't get to take classes you want.
Great for these types of students diversity at du has been improving magnificently. still a lot of caucasian rate but it's getting diversed and so no worry for racial problems.
students who are planning on majoring hospitality management, i definitely recommend them to attend the school. great faculties and classes!Clubs and Activities various clubs! there are so much of them and you can participate anytime and quit them if you don't like.
Campus Safety campus safety is amazing. however, since there is metro right next to the campus, which is good or bad, creepy people are walking around the campus although they don't have access to enter the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences du is great academically as well as socially. there are plenty of opportunities to excel here both in and out of the classroom. there are lots of events to attend, and many people love greek life here.
Tips for prospective students if you are planning to attend du, plan on working hard, especially if you are pursuing a degree in the sciences or engineering. also, the party scene is very big here, but there are definitely lots of opportunities to go to other events if you don't like to drink.
Academic Rigor as a molecular biology major, i can say that i have definitely been challenged by my classes so far, but i have heard that many of the social science classes and writing classes are fairly easy.
Dorm Life the dorms are nice, but the showers are very small. the rooms themselves are pretty big and have huge windows, which is awesome. quiet hours start at 10:00 in freshman buildings (not sure about the sophomore/junior/senior buildings), but it is not always enforced, so sometimes it's best to go to the library if you need absolute quiet to study.
Food and Dining the food is generally decent. there are good days and bad days. i'd say it's pretty average for college food.
What to do for fun hockey games are a big deal here, so definitely get season tickets if yo can afford them. if you can't, the tickets are $5 per game. even if you don't plan on buying season tickets to the hockey games, you should go to the annual hockey season ticket campout. the night before season tickets go on sale, tons of students campout next to the box office. there's food and there are games. it's an awesome du tradition. lots of students like to go skiing on the weekends as well. there are plenty of clubs to join, such as alpine club, tea club and cooking club.
Bang for the buck du is extremely expensive, but it is a great school and worth the money if you can manage to come up with it. lots of students here are on scholarship, and the scholarships can be pretty big if you've done well in high school and on standardized tests.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus as a stated above, the hockey season ticket campout is a big du tradition. another tradition is winter carnival, which is a weekend in february when lots of students go to winter park (a ski town) and stay there and ski and participate in activities like tubing and concerts. prices for skiing and food are reduced for du students that weekend, and there's a scholarship that you can apply for to cover the cost of a ski lift ticket for one day, meal tickets and a tubing ticket.
Great for these types of students du is a great place for anyone who wants to meet people from all over the us and abroad and make lifelong friends. it's also great for people who like to ski or want to do undergraduate research.
Clubs and Activities there are tons of clubs on campus, and it seems like there are always free activities going on. for example, there are free thursday night movies.
Greek Life greek life is a big deal here, and it's still growing.
Campus Safety i always feel safe on campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As with any college, what you put in is what you get out. A unique part of DU is their quarter system, so you take just as many credits as would any of your counterparts at a semester run school, but you cram it into 10 weeks instead of 15. While this sounds overwhelming, it's entirely doable and it's a great way to be able to take as many classes as you want and not worry about your major's requirements as much.
Am enjoying being here Couldn't have found a better fit. DU is the kind of place where everyone can find their own niche. From Intramural Broomball to the Spiritual Free-Thinkers Club, there's a place for everyone. I also highly recommend the Pioneer Leadership Program; It's something you apply to in the Spring. I'm part of it and absolutely love it. It's like living with 65 of your closest friends and learning together at the same time.
Bang for the buck While I truly believe that DU offers a quality education and is only continuing to become more prestigious, it is not a cheap school. They do offer decent financial aid, but it's often necessary to go on your own scholarship hunts as well. That being said, walking around campus and participating in the constant university-run events will show you where your money is going. The campus is beautiful and you will never at a loss for new opportunities.
Tips for prospective students Apply. Between the sunny Colorado days, the endless opportunities presented by the university, and the chances to explore your new home in the Rockies, you won't want to leave. Going to the University of Denver has been the best decision I've made in a long time. It has the environment of an Ivy without having a <6% acceptance rate.
Great for these types of students Students who are driven enough to be able to go to class and keep up with the quarter system. Those who love the outdoors (the DU Alpine Club is fantastic!). Pretty much anyone who is interested in being part of a vibrant community of young adults who are all interested in getting a quality education and making their environment the best that it can be.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My professors are interesting and diverse. Most of them understand that you are first quarter freshman and give you a week or two to get settled. Not only do I learn from classes but there are a ton of out of state and international students to learn from too!
Am enjoying being here Clean campus, good people, good spirit. We are the #1 NCAA non-football school in the nation! Everyone is unbelievably friendly, the hospitality has been commented upon many, many times since I've been here. There is always something going on and it is a short (free!) lightrail ride away from downtown Denver.
Bang for the buck It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it in the end. Alumni and career opportunities are endless at DU, CEOs of major corporations to small business owners, DU has a little bit of everything to help you out after graduations
Tips for prospective students Definitely apply! Financial aid is AMAZING for an insititution this expensive. Just see what you can get out of it- the people, atmosphere, and potential of DU is enough to at least take a tour.
Great for these types of students Outdoorsy & Adventurous!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At the University of Denver the students, including myself are academically challenged. It gives students the extra push to learn and study. There are only 10 weeks within one quarter (there are three quarters) meaning that everything at the University of Denver must be learned much quicker than a normal university or college. The students must study for test and cannot wing it. This forces the students to really learn and remember what they learned. I am a Biology major and I know I have definitely learned more here at the University of Denver than I did in high school or in Community College. Its a huge transition but definitely worth the learning experience.
Am enjoying being here My best advice to give to any incoming student to the University of Denver is to join special programs offered before classes start. Join the Honor's Program or the Living and Learning Communities. If a student is offered one of these it is an honor and will be worth it. I was offered these programs, but didn't register for any of them. I was luck enough to be invited to be a part of the Excelling Leaders Institute or known as ELI. I registered for this program and met some of the best of friends that I have now. This program is what made my experience at the University of Denver more than enjoyable. I was able to meet and make friends before orientation week and really made making friends and connections easier. With this program I have made not only friends, but family members and they have showed me how great the University of Denver really is. I love being here. There are so many resources and chances to become successful.
Bang for the buck The University of Denver is definitely expensive, however the challenge and connections that are made are worth it. At another college or university a student won't be pushed to their limit to learn from themselves and how strong they really could be. The University of Denver has challenged me and pushed me to be my best. I have made great friends and met wonderful people and this university is definitely worth the bucks.
Tips for prospective students Join programs before classes even start. This will give you the opportunity to make friends before everyone else and makes the whole meet and greet situation a little less awkward. Even better advice than joining programs is to get started on academics right away. There are no chances to slack off. Just tackle the class from the beginning to knock of stress during finals. I know that people told me the University of Denver was going to be a challenge, but I never really took it seriously. For incoming students make sure that you go into classes from the beginning trying your best to succeed. If you are struggling in the beginning do not panic, but search for help. There are many resources and study groups at the University you just have to look for them. Don't ever give up on yourself because your at the University of Denver for a reason, you are there to shine and succeed!
Great for these types of students Make friends with someone you love in the financial aid office. Not everyone there is as helpful as others. Find someone who was willing to work with you and keep them! Erica Shaffer was amazing to me and really helped guide me.

Am enjoying being here I love the people, the food, and the different facilities. The staff are fantastic and I love college
Bang for the buck It is very expensive. There is no question.
Tips for prospective students Bring a bike and know what classes you want to talk before registration.
Great for these types of students Fast pass working people. The 10 week quarter period does not allow for slacking or mistakes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Denver is a academically challenging school where I constantly have opportunities to learn new things. The classes are challenging, and there are always academic discussions and presentations happening outside of class.
Am enjoying being here I love being on this campus. The campus is small enough where you get to know a ton of people, but big enough so that there's always something to do.
Bang for the buck DU is expensive, but they are more than willing to give out scholarships and loans, so it's absolutely possible for anyone to go here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here are supportive and valuable across the board, but one must put forth the effort to learn as well.
Am enjoying being here DU offers numerous opportunities for entertainment and fun both on campus and for reduced rates around Denver. Also, DU is fairly central which allows any student to get where they want to for anything.
Bang for the buck DU is expensive, but the value which someone receives for taking the economic burden of coming here absolutely is the top. The school provides everything I could ask for and more.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships early. Participate in the Ammi-Hyde interview through DU when applying. And finally, talk to someone in your intended field and you will surely know if it is right for you.
Great for these types of students ALL!

Am enjoying being here Definitely love it! There are a variety of organizations and clubs to be involved in. The education is wonderful! The instructors are willing to go out of their way to make sure you understand the material.
Bang for the buck I am getting the education I am paying for. The material we learn in each class can be applied to our every day lives and it makes us fully knowledgeable of on the structure of what we learn and what is happening in the world.
Tips for prospective students Apply!!! If you need scholarships there are tons offered by the university. Lots of resources available to you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Denver is an excellent school if they have your intended major/minor. My suggestion would be to look to see if the University of Denver has what you are looking to study. It is a great opportunity to network and get the education that you wish. I think its also helpful that we have quarters instead of semesters, because when you have to take a class that you don't particularly like, you only have to endure 10 weeks of that class before you change classes.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is a little competitive, however I think is is nicer to have a smaller campus. Less students mean more time to spend with professors if you need assistance. Also it brings a little more friendly environment. There are a lot of student organizations that you can join on campus. If there aren't any student organizations that you feel you would want to be a part of you can always start a new one.
Bang for the buck As a private college there is plenty of money to give out scholarships, but you have to find them. If you look into financial aid, they help a lot but you have to be calm and patient. When considering the bang for the buck, make sure that you would want to be in that environment and are willing to fight for your right to be there. It's not that DU is a bad school, just sometimes with more students coming in and less money government wise for education it gets harder to fund education, especially with tuition increasing.
Tips for prospective students I would check out the campus and the school website. Research to make sure that DU is a school you would want to attend and that is has the possibilities you want if you would like to get involved on campus. Getting involved on campus makes the experience much more fun and easier.
Great for these types of students DU is great for any student; you as a student just have to want to be here and work hard. 3 10 week terms are fast pace and you have to be able to adjust from semesters.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The classes are really small, and the teachers are all in the top of their fields. I've heard that they're even willing to meet with students outside of class, which is huge.
Will enjoy being here Totally! As a music major, DU's Lamont school it technologically amazing! I couldn't keep my jaw up while touring it. Also, the builing is open 'til 2 AM, which is great for the crazy composer. I've heard a lot about the teachers, and the admissions staff is super-friendly.
Bang for the buck DU is pretty expensive, but it's a private school. The nice thing is, they offer a ton of merit scholarships, and 80% of students receive aid. Also, they have the 3+2 and the 4+1 program, which enables you to complete a major within 5 years instead 6. There is also a study abroad program, which is no extra cost. You just pay the year's tuition.
Tips for prospective students AP and IB a HUGE help here. If you score well on these tests, there are certain classes that your can skip, so you can spend less time on your general education and more time on your major.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some classes are definitely challenging, but in the end you feel so accomplished. The quarter system is also really great. You get to take more classes, and they aren't drawn out over so long where you get too bored of a class. Prepare yourself for hard work, but many rewards.
Am enjoying being here I love the atmosphere of the campus and the city. You get transportation passes to get around Denver so it's really fun to take the light-rail downtown to explore the city. Also there are a lot of great opportunities on campus, like activities and clubs and such.
Bang for the buck I definitely know the pains of attending a school that has one of the most expensive tuitions ever heard of. I wish it didn't have to be so much to pay, but in my book it is so worth it. I'm sure the memories and friends you make at DU will be well worth the hard work.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships if you can! It is expensive so just be mentally prepared for that. Also, if you want to meet a great group of people who will become your instant friends check out the Young Life house next to campus. There's usually a free dinner every Sunday night with fun games and hang out time.
Great for these types of students If you will be an incoming freshman and you are contemplating living a substance-free lifestyle, I would suggest applying to the substance-free floor they provide at Centennial Halls. It's a great way to meet a bunch of students with similar values as yours.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The courses I took this last quarter were challenging and fun. I took an Anthropology class that required me to be in class and pay attention every day, and I learned so much that I've been lecturing my family and friends and engaging in debates about creatures billions of years old with people. I loved the class and learned more than I thought would be possible in ten weeks. The only reason I gave this four stars is because I did not enjoy the way my language class was taught, I struggled all quarter and feel like the teaching method was partly to blame.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. Locals walk through it all the time for the scenery, and occasionally a wedding will be held on campus for the beauty of it. I love my dorm room, the whole thing feels welcoming and warm to me. I get along well with my roommate and my Resident Assistant, and I have friends from all of my various classes. The atmosphere is not so party-heavy that I have trouble sleeping, but there are parties there for people who enjoy attending. Everyone is open and friendly, and class outings are fairly frequent, whether they're organized by the school or the students themselves.
Bang for the buck Yes, the school is really expensive, but they provide quality education and a huge variety of ways to obtain it. There's something at the school for everyone, and the school's study-abroad program is incredible and most definitely worth paying a little extra for. Being able to put the University of Denver on a resume is, I feel, worth the cost. Attending a prestigious university can make all the difference on a job application. The school offers enough free programs and events that it is hard to be bored on campus.
Tips for prospective students Know how to do your own laundry before you get there. Many students I've met have required assistance washing their dirty underwear because they don't know how to do it themselves. It isn't difficult to learn, but it is embarrassing to ask the person next door to help. Don't be shy, especially during the first few weeks of school. Everyone starts on the same page, and the best way to make friends is to let everyone know who you are and that you're open to friendships. Go to class, sit in the front row, smile at the professor. Learn something about them and be sure to show an interest in it, they will appreciate it and be more willing to help you later. I had a professor who loved Italy, I learned five words in Italian and became her favorite student.
Great for these types of students The University of Denver can accommodate almost any type of student. They love diversity, and the do their best to ensure that everyone has something to do. There are movies every Thursday in Sturm Hall, house parties in the neighborhoods around the school, cafes to talk or study in, and clubs for just about any interest. A variety of student alliances exist. A large number of students are financially well-off, but there are many who are not. Quiet areas exist all across campus for studying, and the gymnasium is well-equipped for all levels of physical fitness.
