Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Take the SAT and ACT as many times as possible, sign up for as many APs as YOU CAN HANDLE. Georgia is extremely selective these days. The average GPA for incoming freshman in 2009 is 3.9 with a 1300 SAT and 30 ACT score. It is important to take the standardized tests as much as possible to get the best score you can. Also, UGA wants to see that you are challenging yourself. APs are the best way to do so. And the more hours you have coming in as a freshman, the easier your life will be. You can sign up for classes earlier, change majors and still have lots of wiggle room, and even get better dibs on football tickets.
Great for these types of students Learn whether or not you are going to need your books in certain classes by the first week of school. You could save hundreds of dollars that way. Also, SIGN UP FOR ADVISING APPOINTMENTS EARLY!! This was an extremely important lesson I learned because students with the most hours get the earliest bid on classes (I didn't have that many) and the earlier the advising appointment the earlier you will be able to sign up for classes. Help you help yourself.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At the University of Georgia, I have learned a lot academically, I have learned a lot about myself, and I have learned a lot about the world around me. I feel like UGA definitely does its part by having so many opportunities for students to learn, and it is up to you as a student to capitalize on that plethora of opportunities. Because UGA encourages and pushes diversity, I have definitely discovered the significance and importance of it. I learned exactly how each person, regardless of creed, chosen religion, race, or gender contributes to the world and shapes the life experiences and view points of every single person they come into contact with. Through involving myself in various student organizations on campus, I learned how to effectively run a business meeting and how to work with other students to plan and raise money for programs for students on campus. I really honed and developed my leadership skills. I also learned to value the importance of community service. As a student at UGA, I found myself desiring to reach out to other students on campus, as well as those in the Athens-Clarke County community. At UGA, I have learned a myriad of things! It really is difficult to just pin point just one or two. But I do think that UGA offers students a lot to learn each and every day.
Am enjoying being here UGA is just so much fun! I honestly feel like every day is an adventure! There is ALWAYS something to do here! There are always free concerts (last year we had both T-Pain and Soulja Boy perform), Dawgs After Dark (this is basically a free carnival for students. There has been food, Build-A-Bear, ice skating, Ferris wheels and other rides, kayaking, and so much more! It happens about twice a semester and usually goes from 10pm to 2am. The best part is, it's all FREE!) There are what seems like thousands of student organizations to get involved in, and of course, everyone will have a great time with the sports offered at UGA. The University of Georgia is a key player athletically in the SEC and the NCAA. Our football team is outstanding and the games are a blast to attend! It's so exciting! Our baseball and softball teams are both REALLY good. Basketball is pretty good..the games are always fun to attend and a lot of times, they give students free t-shirts. I have even received a free Popsicle at a basketball game before! The Gym Dawgs (our gymnastics team) is PHENOMINAL! They always win the NCAA championships! Their meets are very exciting to attend!
The food at UGA is also amazing! I can't think of any other school that does food and meal plans as well as UGA does. There are four dining halls for students to choose from any time they want to eat. We even have one dining hall that is open 24 hours a day! Also, at UGA we have unlimited meal plans. This means you can go to the dining hall as many times in one day as u like! If u want to go to a dining hall after every single class, you can do it! You have unlimited visits to the dining halls! Sometimes, there are even live musicians inside the dining halls while u eat! It's really cool! Last, but certainly not least, UGA students do have a great time at parties :)
...Needless to say, I am really enjoying my time at UGA!Bang for the buck If you are a student from the state of Georgia and you are HOPE scholarship eligible, you definitely get the most bang for your buck because you don't pay tuition! It's really a great deal! It gives you plenty of incentive to keep your grades up and maintain your 3.0, or as my friends and I like to say, Keep HOPE alive! If you are a student coming to UGA from a state other than Georgia, it is definitely more expensive for you than it is for students who receive HOPE, but I do think it is a lot cheaper than a lot of other schools. Also, according to me, being a student at UGA is so great, a price can't even be put on it!
Tips for prospective students The number one tip I would like to give to prospective UGA students is to really take advantage of the opportunities that UGA has to offer. UGA is a great school with an amazing campus and student life and Athens is a fabulous city. I really encourage all students to get out there and see what UGA and Athens has to offer!
Also, I reccommend Dawg Camp to any students who have been accepted. It's just so much fun! You meet a lot of people and have the time of your life learning about all that UGA has to offer!Great for these types of students EVERYONE!! (no really, I promise I am not exaggerating!)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It’s easy to say that you will learn a lot in the classrooms here at the University of Georgia because you will. What sets UGA apart is how you learn outside of the classroom. You experience new ideas, places, and interests that show you more of who you are and what you want to do in your future. The diversity among people here allows you to learn about others and their cultures as well as how to communicate and work with those people. The campus and the encompassing town of Athens, GA create a dynamic place to learn, have fun, and work and serve as an extraordinary stepping-stone to real life!
Am enjoying being here UGA has SOMETHING for EVERYONE!!! There are about 400 recognized clubs here! We have great organizations including (but definitely not limited to): Philanthropy, Academics, Culture, Religion, Fitness & Sports, or the Arts (music, dance, art). It would be too difficult to tell you everything offered here. For example, have you heard of a Biological/Biochemical Defense Club before? UGA HAS! The Greek life is also a popular and diverse way to enjoy being here.
Besides the academics, you have probably heard about the athletics…and for great reason. It is always a treat to watch a matchup “Between the Hedges!” The football team has been one of the most consistent in recent history throughout the nation. It may surprise you, but the #2 sport at this university is women’s gymnastics. The Gymdogs, this past year, won their 5th straight national championship. They’ll leave you in awe of some amazing techniques! That’s a sample of UGA athletics, and the trend continues… all of our teams are always in the national spotlight!
If you need something else to do, it may be a tough choice. Downtown Athens has cool shopping, some amazing food, and plenty of places for social meetings. On campus, you have some of the best collegiate food services in the nation, quads to hang out with others, and a massive fitness center where you can exercise, take fitness classes, or sign up for intramural sports.
One thing you cannot miss out on here is the music scene. Many great bands have come from Athens, and that drives many of today’s students to perform music on the side. Check out the 40-Watt Club among other venues for some great, diverse music!
The ONLY possible thing to keep you from enjoying the University of Georgia is YOU! Athens will become your home.Bang for the buck The facts do not lie. The University of Georgia was rated the 6th best “bang for the buck” according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. The quality of resources on campus is a great value for students. If you live in Georgia, you probably have the HOPE Scholarship, which covers your tuition costs here. Out of state or don’t have HOPE? No need to worry! Many departments at UGA offer scholarships to help pay for school. UGA also provides the opportunity to employ students in various areas. Also, there are countless local business in Athens give students a chance to help pay for their education here.
Tips for prospective students -Be on the lookout for FREE T-SHIRTS!
Athletic events and campus organizations often involve free T-shirts. They’re always pretty appealing and you can pick your size in most situations. It’s an easy way to get free clothing and maybe become interested in something new.
-Pay attention for emails on season tickets for athletics
The window to purchase student season ticket packages for athletic functions is usually only a couple of days, but for the discount price and entertainment value, you can’t forget to act on these emails.
-Find where you classes are on campus before they officially start.
It might take a couple of weeks to get used to such a large campus, so know where you are going beforehand. If you’re trying to choose between multiple routes to get from one class to another, don’t worry. Your teachers are usually gracious about being late the first few classes.
-Move outside of your bubble
Every introduction or greeting might open a life-changing opportunity for you, so don’t let it pass.
-Use your peers’ grade and professor ratings with caution.
What your peers think can often be a great resource, be sure they can justify theirs opinions. Sometimes, only negative people to like to complain tell the world how they feel.
-Don't be scared starting college!
It is natural to be a little nervous when starting college. However, you are not alone. 4,000 other freshmen are just as nervous as you, so relax and be yourself.Great for these types of students -If you want new experiences...
-If you love sports...
-If you want great connections for the future...
-If you like a challenge....
-Everybody...

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA you get what you sign up for. I am currently taking 15 hours and all 15 of those are spent taking serious notes and paying close attention to learn the new material. I am learning new stuff everyday and am tested on it every 3 weeks. Coming out of my freshman year last year I learned a lot more than I ever did in high school. Then, this year I had to take courses to get into my major and I am now learning even more, but stuff that will specifically apply to my major.
Am enjoying being here Athens is a great town full of great food, shopping, and things to do. There is never a dull moment here whether you're looking for a night out or a study time in a coffee shop. UGA also has so many student events you can attend and have tons of school spirit. There are tons of great ways to get involved and meet new people. Even though it's a big school you see familiar faces walking to class and around campus. I've had the time of my life at Georgia and am so proud to be a dawg!
Bang for the buck I am paying out of state tuition and if it was not worth it then I would not still be here. I think that UGA is definitely worth the bang for the buck because not only are you getting a great education from a top college, but you are also getting wonderful colleges per major, SEC sport teams, a college town, and a full college experience.
Tips for prospective students The University of Georgia has been getting tougher and tougher to get into, so my greatest advice is to focus on SAT and ACT scores, take AP/IB classes, load up on extracurricular activities, and have a 3.3 or higher GPA. When I was applying to Georgia I did not apply early because I was afraid I would not get in. Therefore, I waited and wrote the four essays required during regular enrollment. If you are scared like me or think that you may not get in, either take the chance and apply early, or do like I did and wait for the regular deadline and write awesome essays. Also, for your recommendations pick people who truly impacted your life or have seen you excel in not only academics but also outside of school. I had my favorite AP teacher, my cheerleading coach, and my bible study leader write me recommendations so they got an idea of every side of who I was.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for anyone who does not get intimidated by a fairly big college, wants to get involved, likes to be surrounded by a variety of different people, and wants to focus on achieving in classes but also have fun. Students looking for a true college town where everyone there attends tailgates on Saturdays, wears the school colors, and offers student discounts- then Athens is the place to be! If you want to be on a beautiful campus but then want to be able to hit the lake forty five minutes away, or the mountains two hours away, or a big city like Atlanta (hour and a half away) then UGA is great for you! I love strolling through North Campus, going to the Botanical Gardens, shopping downtown, and screaming GO DAWGS at sporting events. At UGA you are truly experiencing what people call college life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Academically, UGA has a lot to offer. Although most classes you will take in the beginning are prerequisite classes before getting into your major, they are for the most part interesting and challenging. If you want to learn, you will most definitely be able to.
Am enjoying being here There is also a lot outside of academics to be found at UGA! I am in a few organizations here that are totally awesome. Greek life is a great way to make some really close friends, but you can do that easily even if you aren't involved in Greek life. There are so many different clubs, organizations, and things to do that you are bound to find somewhere you belong. Athens has a great college-town vibe and as far as the number one party school thing goes, if you are looking for parties, they are to be found. But there is so much to do that doesn't include partying if it's not your thing. People aren't going to judge you if you don't drink. It is so easy to make friends here because there are tons of different people around and there is always something to do. And can I just say one word: FOOTBALL!!!!!! Saturdays in Athens are truly an amazing time. You will quickly pick up on all the traditions and really understand why everyone makes a big deal about it here. Other sporting events are really great too, and most are free for students or really cheap. There are also great organizations like BCM [I go to BCM and LOVE IT!] and Wesley if you are a Christian and are looking for somewhere to stay strong in your faith. Athens becomes your home very quickly, and you will love it.
Bang for the buck If you are a Georgia resident and have HOPE, this is definitely the school for you. Even if you are out of state, it is still worth it for sure. As far as money goes, I can pretty much go without spending it if I don't want to. Meal plan is awesome because you can each as much as you want whenever you want whenever you want and it's already paid for throughout the year. Living on campus and paying for books is kind of expensive, but that is pretty much how it is at any college you go to. Dorms are pretty nice for what you pay for them. As far as other things go, your student activities fee covers a lot of great stuff on campus! Free movies are shown all the time and we had a free carnival during homecoming week-cool things like that happen often. I got to see Ludacris in concert for free! Also, I definitely don't mind paying only $8 for every home football game I go to ;) Almost every other sporting event is free. College is expensive no matter where you go, but it is totally worth it at UGA because you get so much out of it.
Tips for prospective students -If you're wanting to get in-
Apply early! If you are admitted through early admission you will probably get the housing you want, and the application isn't as much work. Take as many AP/Honors classes as you can handle. Try your best in them, but don't stress about not having a GPA of 4.0 or above. Same goes with the ACT and SAT. Try to do really good and take them multiple times if you can. UGA wants to see that you are challenging yourself. Get involved with stuff going on at your high school and outside school, especially with leadership positions. UGA is interested in that kind of stuff too.
-Once you are here-
GET INVOLVED! As I've said, there really is something for everyone and so many ways to make good friends. When you are involved in something, the school seems a lot smaller and the more people you know, the smaller it gets. Don't be intimidated by the size.
Find out where your classes are before the first day. Life is a lot easier that way. Learning your way around isn't that bad. Get a bus map and learn those routes too. It takes a little more work, but the buses are free and convenient when you have a class that is far out of the way. Don't be afraid to ask an upperclassman. I've done it several times before and trust me, you will survive.
Don't forget to study! Definitely take advantage of all UGA has to offer because campus life is great and Athens is an amazing city, but academics are important too. Cramming the night before an exam is not going to cut it like it did in high school. You will probably have some weed out classes that will challenge you big time, but if you work hard enough you can do well.
Move out of your comfort zone and don't be worried about starting college! Use every opportunity to meet new people, including in your classes and on your hall. Sit with someone sitting by themselves in the dining hall and you could for real make a new friend. It's normal to be a little bit nervous about starting college [though people may not admit it] but make the most of the time you are given here. You will love it!Great for these types of students UGA really is great for all types of people. Because it is a big school, you are bound to find something academic and social wise that is perfect for you. Speaking of size, don’t be intimidated by the size. When you know your way around and know people, it seems a lot smaller. If you are wanting a different experience from what is going on at your town back home, come to UGA! It is a whole new experience. If you want a place that offers strong academics and plenty of good times, UGA is for you. Being here gives you great connections for the future and prepares you for whatever you want to do in life. I mean, I’m here to become a marine biologist if that tells you anything about the variety in majors. :) There is so much here for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently taking 16 credit hours this semester. Even though it has been hard work, I definitely feel like I am learning as much as I possible can. Free tutoring is offered for several courses, and other help is available for any course. My professors are extremely helpful, patient when working with students, and very eager to teach their courses. My science classes have been the most difficult; however, my critical thinking and learning skills have improved more than I could have ever imagined!!
Am enjoying being here Everyone in Athens is extremely friendly and nobody is judgmental. I come from a small town, and Athens seems like a different country than where I was raised in South Georgia.I meet new people every day, and there are student organizations for anyone. I have met people from other states and countries that have opened my eyes to different backgrounds. Faculty and other students are helpful in several ways. I do not think I have ever met anyone in the past two years I have been here that was not willing to help me find my way or answer a question. No one has ever been rude or disrespectful. I am glad I chose UGA over other colleges. I would not want to be anywhere else.
Bang for the buck Classes are difficult at Georgia; however, the courses prepare you the way they should. They offer academic assistance and that comes in handy for more time-consuming courses. The financial aid department has always been helpful, and the computer systems are super quick. Faculty and staff respond to your questions from phone calls and e-mails almost immediately.
Tips for prospective students I would study in high school and take as many difficult and time-consuming classes as possible. I never had to study much in high school, but I had to learn how to quickly. Even if some classes do not require attendance, you will fall behind quick. In some lectures, every lecture is important to attend. Because of the intensity of courses, you do not want to fall behind. Make sure you get ahead if you can, and I would but a planner. I did not think I needed one, but I realized that there was no way to remember everything I needed to. Planners are given to students for free with school information located inside of them. Save money and talk to other students with the major you are looking into to help you figure out what you need to do before you get there. PLAN AHEAD!! Trust me, you will save time and a lot of worrying and stress.
Great for these types of students It is great for any type of student. I have met people of all kinds from different cultures, religions, countries, and states that will help you communicate with different type of people later on in life. UGA offers programs for any student, and I have never heard anyone say that they have disliked the school, the community, or other students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Although most intro classes are large (300+), the teachers are for the most part very friendly and available during office hours and for any additional meetings. All of the professors and grad assistants are very knowledgeable.
Am enjoying being here Athens is a great college town. There is something to do for everyone, whether you are into the party scene or not. Day and night, there are great restaurants and stores to visit. For those who like a little night life, the bars and clubs downtown are a great way to meet people and just relax after a long day of classes. The campus is beautiful and kept up very well.
Bang for the buck Whether you are in state or out of state, UGA is definitely worth the price of tuition. You will learn a lot and make tons of new friends in the process.
Tips for prospective students When choosing classes and teachers, I would suggest using ratemyprofessor.com or ugakey.com. The latter is specific to UGA and lists all the GPAs from the years they have taught. If you want student opinions, ratemyprofessor is up to date and honest.
During the first week of classes, grab a bus map from any bus and learn the routes, keep it with you all the time. The bus system is a free and easy way to get around, use them.
Most importantly, get involved! You don't have to go greek in order to meet a lot of people, but it is definitely one option to get involved and gain a tight knit set of group inside this large school. It can feel overwhelming sometimes. There are also many volunteer and community organizations with information meetings all the time.Great for these types of students Students who want something different from high school. Like a lot of people and are disciplined to learn instead of going out all of the time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot We get a rep for being a huge party school, but that's only partially true. Personally, I am a science major, pre-med, and our program is chalk-full of weeder classes. No matter what major you're in, if you don't work, you're instantly on the 5 year track.
Am enjoying being here One word, FOOTBALL. If you're looking at Georgia, I KNOW this is on your mind, and trust me, it's worth it. Football, the downtown scene, and Greek life are all AMAZING at Georgia, but like all good things, moderation is key.
Bang for the buck If you live in-state... this is the place for you. If you can keep HOPE (i.e. actually study and don't blow all your parent's money downtown), you're basically getting a free ride paid for by the lottery.
If you live out-of state, I'm not really sure. Most of my out-of-state friends have loans/scholarships/trust funds, but the don't really complain about the money that much.Tips for prospective students Take SAT and ACT. SAT measures how you think and ACT measures what you know. So if you do well on tests you can study for, take the ACT, and if you just test well, take the SAT, but UGA accepts both, so you should take both and see where you're best.
Take honors and AP classes if you can handle them. If you can't, DON'T (there's nothing worse than killing your GPA for nothing). UGA has gotten more and more competitive over the years, so if you get denied but are still stuck on it, make plans to transfer in. MANY people transfer into UGA after their first 30 hours of school and admissions requirements are less intense for transfers.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA provides the opportunity, especially for incoming freshman with hours on their side, to take classes that are intriguing and that otherwise you wouldn't be able to take. This gives you a chance to learn about something entirely different from you (intended) major and explore all the possibilities.
Am enjoying being here 100%. Athens is an awesome town to live in! There are consistently things to do for anyone and everyone, no matter what you like to be apart of. From sororities and fraternities to religious organizations to volunteer groups and clubs there is definitely something for everyone.
Bang for the buck UGA is not as cheap as it may appear at first glance, there are a lot of hidden fees and requirements, but it is definitely worth the money. UGA provides a health center, gym, transit, and Wi-Fi for all students (this is what your fee money covers) as well as student events and much more! The slight cost in fees etc. is well worth what you get out of the uses for the fees.
Tips for prospective students Apply Early! UGA has an excellent early admission program, with many incentives, such as earlier housing selection, it is a definite plus. Maintain a good GPA! Although UGA will tell you a GPA isn't everything, and it isn't, it will help out tremendously, especially if you lack in other important areas like test scores or extracurriculars. AP classes are worth it! The more AP classes you take, and pass the AP test for, the more hours you will come into UGA with, which allows you more room for things like a minor or double major; but DON'T take more than you can handle because that will compromise your GPA.
Great for these types of students One of the great things about UGA is that it's great for many different groups of people. One of the major qualities you need to have, or be able to quickly adjust to have, is independence. UGA requires all freshman to live on campus, which means at least a week at a time without mom and dad. It also helps for those with good self-motivation, you will often times find yourself sitting in your dorm room with the option of getting online, watching TV, or studying; you then must choose studying on your own or suffer the consequences. UGA is also a large school with over 33,000 students, which doesn't mean it's impossible to make friends, it just gives you a much larger chance of meeting someone you'll click with, so it helps to enjoy meeting new people and making new friends quickly. The more people you know, the smaller the school will seem.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot academic wise, but have learned more about life. I know I was some people's first black friend and coming from an all black high school I learned a lot about how other people party and do things. If your willing to listen you'll learn so much. My advice is don't knock it till you try it because it might just help you have a success college career.
Am enjoying being here The University of Georgia is never dull. Theres always something to do every night of the week, it could be a frat party, a house party, or just the regular trip downtown( Which you new students will find out about when you get here). Speaking from a guys point of view the males will really enjoy themselves here for the simple fact that females out number us like 4 to 1. I really enjoy the freedom more than anything I can leave my room anytime and do whatever I want with out anyone asking questions and the food is great(some may disagree). Usually if you like it UGA has it. There is even a club for harry Potter fans who play Quidditch and have tournaments in one of the quads. So You will find something you enjoy doing here just keep your ears and eyes open.
Bang for the buck UGA is not cheap, but The things they have for us like Dawgs After Dark has so much free stuff, like build-a-bear, lazer tag, and mechanical bull rides that kinda makes up for it. They also give you countless resources when it comes to finding jobs and internships and the dorms are usually nice and well kept, but other than that you may feel a little cheated out of money.
Tips for prospective students IF IT DOES NOT APPLY TO YOUR MAJOR TO NOT TAKE!!! For example if science is not your major and you don't have to take a science don't! If you do don't feel you have to take the most difficult science class to prove something, just take ecology and get it over with. Also do your homework research your professors on the uga key and rate your professor, there's no need to take a class with a professor thats just going to aggravate you. You will also need to learn the bus schedule it'll make getting around so much easier and quicker especially in august when its WAY TOO HOT to walk anywhere. For those who are concerned about keeping HOPE, I would suggest taking the easiest load of classes you know you can get As in your first semester. Its better to start off with that 4.0 so even if you screw up you'll still be good. There are some classes that are easy A's like ECHD and while they may not do anything for your major they rarely take up any of your free time outside of class. Oh and don't go out and buy your books as soon as school starts because some professors will tell you you can a get a cheaper version or that you don't even need the book for class. One more thing Do not deprive yourself of sleep during finals I've seen people pass out on the floor in the dining halls because they've pushed them selves too hard. A good nights sleep will help you better than eight hours of studying with no break.
Great for these types of students If you don't mind big class sizes, lots of people, lots of CRAZY people, lots of CRAZY DRUNK people(mostly on game days), lots of walking( unless you just wanna be lazy and ride the bus everywhere), people with outrageous views on society, and a school with top notch facilities and TOP NOTCH PARTIES, than you are the type of student that will defiantly love UGA!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As an art major, I can easily say that I have learned more here than I have in any of my high school classes combined. The professors truley care about the students and take time to talk with you one on one about your progress. When I first came here I wasn't sure if I had the talent to pursue a career in the arts, but my professors have given me the confidence and skills to pursue art with a passion. Even my classes that are not affiliated with art (such as english) have really allowed me to grow.
Am enjoying being here Athens has such a great atmosphere. There are so many places to visit downtown. Some of the best are resturants called Little Italy, which has amazing pizza, and the Grill which is an old diner and is open 24 hours a day. There are also SO many great boutiques to shop at downtown. Of course game weekends are great! It is awesome seeing so many people come support our football team. There are plenty of activities that the University hosts. The best are called Dawgs After Dark events which are usually based off certain themes. Some of the themes have been casino night, candy land, and even a carnival. Tons of students go to these events, and the best part is that they are FREE to students! Needless to say, there are plenty of things to do around campus....oh and we were rated the #1 party school of the year too ;]
Bang for the buck Of course any college is going to be expensive. The plus side of going to a university in Georgia is that the HOPE scholarship pays for tuition for students who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. But besides that the main advice I can give about saving money is to just go on the 5 day meal plan over the 7 day. This will save a little money. You also may want to consider not bringing a car. Parking is a bit expensive, but the bus system is so good that you can easily get by without a car. These are really the only large expenses.
Tips for prospective students The biggest tip I can give is to have an idea of what you want to go into before you start your classes. You have about a semester to decide what you want to pursue, but after that you will be adding additional semesters to your time here. I would also recomend getting as many AP credits as possible, they really do help in cutting down the classes that you need to take. Another important thing to do before you register for classes is to take a look at ratemyprofessor.com. There you can see which professors students prefer. It can be a really helpful tool. The first semester I wouldn't recommend taking any more than 15 hours of classes. Once you are here the first week is amazing! Make sure you are friendly and open to meeting a lot of people because thats when I met most of the people im friends with now! And most of all HAVE FUN! IT will be some of the most fun you will ever have in your life.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for students who are very social and open to meeting other life-long friends. It has a great art program, so anyone who is interested in the arts will be successful. The buissiness school is also very well-known.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA, a student learns not only academic material, but about themselves and the community. I have definitely grown as a person in only the one year I have attended. The academics are rigorous, but they prepare you well for whatever career you are planning. In addition, there are endless opportunities, whether they are majors or just programs to join. The student organizations teach a lot about the community, and made me grow as a person. I now find myself searching for ways to better the community because of what I learned in these organizations.
Am enjoying being here First off, UGA was rated the number one party school in the nation. This should automatically inform people that it is fun. In addition to parties, there are numerous other events that are a blast, including free concerts with artists like Ludacris, B.O.B., and T-Pain, and free carnivals like Dawgs After Dark. Sports are also huge here, as UGA is a division one college in the extremely competitive SEC. Football and basketball games are a blast. Also, definitely join a fraternity or sorority upon coming here. It will open up opportunities to have a much better college experience. The dining is also great, as there are multiple dining halls with awesome food, including one that stays open 24 hours!
Bang for the buck UGA might be a bit expensive, but with the HOPE scholarship (for Georgia residents) added on to the endless other financial aid opportunities, students do not end up paying that much. Also, it was ranked as the 5th best value school by the Princeton Review. Honestly, I can not even put a price tag on the experiences I've had here and the lifelong friends that I have made, so students definitely get the bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students UGA is actually not as competitive as many say, but apply early and take as many AP classes as possible. These will help distinguish you from other students with similar grades. Also, take the SAT/ACT at least twice. The average GPA of incoming freshmen in 2009 was a 3.8 and the average SAT score was a 1263 without the writing part. Finally, extracurricular activities are important, but not entirely. I'll give my situation as an example. I had an unweighted GPA of 3.93 and an SAT of 1260. I played football for one year and didn't do much else extracurricular. I also applied the day of the deadline. Somehow, I still got in. The admissions board is somewhat random with who they admit and deny, but doing what I said above helps your chances.
Great for these types of students Everyone. Except Florida fans :p

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot at UGA about myself, the world, and intellectual pursuits. Moving away from home and living on campus has been one of the most liberating and beneficial experiences of my life thus far. I have learned how to be a responsible adult, as well as how to socialize, have fun, and make friends with the diverse group of people that attend the University of Georgia.
I am learning how to better manage my time, balance my responsibilities, and take control of my own future.Am enjoying being here I absolutely love attending UGA. Between the teachers, beautiful buildings and resources, and the varied group of students that I am able to talk to, I am always busy with something I enjoy doing. The wide variety of courses available means that I get to take what I want to take, when I want to take it, and I feel like I am not only paying for an education, but also enjoyment and fulfillment.
The open campus is not so fun on rainy days, but know you'll always be around someone with an umbrella who may be willing to share.
The proximity to downtown Athens is also a plus. Athens offers a quirky and endearing music scene, as well as a lot of places to relax.
Regardless of what kind of crowd you identify with, there is something here for you. Being in a big university with a small town feel gives me the best of both words.
The registration process is also very easy here, and the advising staff is wonderful.
The people at the Study Abroad office and Office of International Education are also amazingly helpful. If you want to study abroad, UGA is a great place to do it. There are tons of UGA and Non-UGA programs available to you, and HOPE will likely cover a portion if not all of your tuition.Bang for the buck Considering the size, location, and facilities that UGA has to offer, I considering going here an extremely smart financial decision. If you are able to get and maintain HOPE scholarship, your time here will be a breeze. The people in the financial aid office are extremely helpful and nice, and loans and scholarships are readily available to those who need them.
The Oasis computer system at UGA makes it easy to see your HOPE/Aid awards at any time, and will never leave you in the dark.Tips for prospective students Apply early and make sure all of your paperwork has gotten in on time. If you need to call to make sure, don't hesitate to do so. The faculty at UGA is extremely nice, and will always be willing to help you with any questions or requests that you may have.
Visit UGA and take a tour. Get a vibe for the university and the people here. UGA is absolutely beautiful in the fall, and be sure to walk around for yourself a bit even if you do take a tour. Seeing UGA during class change is a really cool experience. Also check out the awesome facilities; the SLC and Tate center are completely dedicated to the needs of the students and are open nearly whenever you need them.
Talk to current students and ask them any specific questions you may have. People will have many different opinions, and hearing a variety of experiences will likely give you a broader perspective on what kind of expectations you should have.
Take the SAT/ACT until you feel satisfied with your score. You may regret not taking it if you don't get accepted to the college you want, but you won't regret taking it multiple times once you're comfortably enrolled in the college of your choice.
Check out the UGA abroad programs if you're interested. UGA has many abroad opportunities available for students of all majors and ages.Great for these types of students Students who like being surrounded by a diverse crowd of people, but who also like the the comfort of living in a small community or dorm. As I've said, UGA is great for students who want to travel abroad, but also for students who want to stay a bit closer to home. UGA offers a huge variety of courses and majors/minors, and many extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, Greek life, and philanthropic organizations.
The downtown scene is also great for students who like to go out to hear a great band or grab some good food.
The first year live on requirement means that students have to live on campus their first year. This makes UGA a great school for students who are looking to move out and create their own space and independence.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It depends a lot on the type of classes you take. There are quite a few general requirements, and when you have a semester-full of only those, they pass by slowly and without you learning much (or at least not learning the stuff you want to). Get started on classes specific to your major, if you can, to spice up your schedule, and you’ll feel like you’re learning a lot more. Also, this gives you the chance to test out your major to see if you like it, and if you start off like this, it gives you plenty of time to change your mind.
Am enjoying being here Yes, definitely! There’s just so much going on here, all the time. The food’s fantastic and easily accessible (four dining halls, spaced all around campus, and cafés and restaurants are close by classes), there’s literally a club for every type of person, opportunities for on-campus jobs, so many study rooms, events sponsored by interest groups and businesses. There are carnivals, parties, lots of Greek and club-sponsored events (haunted houses, cultural nights). There’ve been corn mazes and zumba nights. There’s a massive gym open to all students.
Bang for the buck UGA’s been rated pretty high for this, and it’s true. It’s a public school, so the tuition’s lower (and for in-state students, HOPE is applicable), but there isn’t a single thing you miss out on. Teachers are still highly qualified and although the general requirement classes can get pretty big, mostly classes are quite small (both things people choose private schools for, but UGA has them).
Tips for prospective students You’ve probably heard this a million and a half times, but seriously, take AP classes, as many as you can handle. Not only will they look promising on your admission application, they also knock out general requirement hours, which means you can get right to major-specific classes.
Apply early—it’s a lot less work on your part, and it’s a relief to already know by December whether you’ve been accepted or not. If you want to apply for Honors, do that early as well; it’s much harder keeping the required GPA for first-year Honors admission.
Also, work on time management in high school. And when you get to college, don’t risk cramming all the information in the night before an exam. It usually works in high school, but when there are only three or four exams in a college class, there’s a lot more material on tests, and it’s not a good idea to risk it.
Work on getting involved! UGA has activity fairs, where clubs set up stands outside—go check them out. There are career fairs, too—even if you’re not looking for a career now, it’s a good idea to check those out, too, so when you are looking for a job, you’ve had plenty of experience selling yourself.Great for these types of students UGA’s fantastic, but it is a huge school, so if you’re not looking for that, then it’s probably not the place for you. That said, it’s not totally impersonal—it’s easy meeting new people (hallmates, people in your smaller classes), and clubs help the school seem much smaller.
It’s a good place if you have a variety of interests (lots and lots of clubs/extracurriculars), or if you’re not really sure what you want to do. There are so many majors here, and changing majors is ridiculously easy, so you have plenty of room to change your mind.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of my professors here at Georgia are very knowledgeable about their subject that they teach and they do a very good job of explaining things to their students in class. I actually enjoyed most of my classes this semester and I feel that I have learned a lot from my professors.
Am enjoying being here Originally I did not want to attend Georgia because I was more interested in Georgia Tech. When I didn't get in to GT, UGA became my next option and I planned to stay here for one year until I transferred. As I have spent more time here I have found that I actually like it here. UGA has a really beautiful campus, especially in the fall when all of the leaves change colors, and there is always something fun happening on campus that you can go do. The dining halls here have much better food than some of the other dining halls I've visited at other colleges, and there is usually plenty of seating available in them which is nice. I have also found that having a single room is very nice because it gives me more space and I don't have to worry about working around a roommate's schedule, and UGA has some single rooms available that don't cost that much more than most double rooms.
Bang for the buck College isn't cheap anywhere, but as far as Georgia's prices go, in-state tuition is not that bad compared to some other schools. The classes are also relatively small, aside from general science classes, and most of the classes I took had about 20-40 people in them. There is also free tutoring available in the Miller Learning Center on campus and all of the professors are willing to meet with students during their office hour if they need extra help. Overall, considering the relatively small class size and availability of help I would say that UGA offers a lot of bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students Take the ACT and SAT as many times as you can during high school because admission everywhere is becoming more competitive. It will also help you get scholarships which you will find extremely important once you see how fast money runs out and how expensive books are.
Great for these types of students The University of Georgia is great for all types of students. There is so much to do on campus and there are so many types of majors and classes available, that all students can find UGA to be a good fit for them.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot When I first arrived, I thought that it would be just another school. But I was wrong. There are so many types of people that I never thought I would meet. You not only learn academics, but you learn how to interact with a variety of people and professors.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere and the living arrangements are amazing (for a dorm life that is).
Bang for the buck Don't let its reputation as a party school stop you from coming. It's one of the best public universities in the US! There are lots of research opportunities and everyone contributes to make it what it is today.
Tips for prospective students Always take the initiative to talk to professors and classmates. They may seem aloof, but they're just scared too! Always take the opportunities at hand. They may just come around once.
Great for these types of students UGA is for EVERYONE!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I just completed my first semester at UGA, and I have learned a lot not only academically, but about myself and the paths I want to go down, as well as other people and the world around me. The classes are wonderful, and I love the honors program. The people I have met are amazing and will be lifelong friends. I have learned a lot about what I want from people and from school. I am in the Redcoats, and the people in the band are awesome, too. I’ve learned in one semester that I want to pursue a different major than my original intention, psychology, and also that I may pursue a minor in African studies. The professors are awesome, and I love the school.
Am enjoying being here Being at UGA isn't just an awesome academic experience. I have met some amazing people, and I love hanging out with my friends. UGA isn't all about school. It's about the friendships that will continue past graduation. I have learned a lot about who and what I find joy in, and I hope that everyone can do the same.
Bang for the buck UGA is expensive, but it's an amazing school. It's challenging, but it's worth every second and every penny spent on it.
Tips for prospective students The admissions board really looks at standardized tests. Take them as many times as you can. You might even get a scholarship! Take as many AP classes as you can handle, but don't kill yourself over them. Keep your grades up, and don't slack off TOO much senior year. It's well worth any time you spend on school during high school.
Great for these types of students UGA is awesome for anyone who likes a big campus and lots of people, but don't get overwhelmed if that's not you! It's easy to make UGA a small place by getting involved and by making friends. UGA is so beautiful, and even when you get overwhelmed, it's easy to just go to north campus and enjoy the beauty. There are so many aspects of the university, and it's a great place for almost anyone!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University Of Georgia is a great school to attend if you value the quality of your education. The professors will really take the time to make sure that you understand the information taught in the class. A lot of learning also takes place outside of the classroom. There are many organizations on campus where you can learn about different people, cultures, and even discover new things about yourself. There are endless possibilities for gaining new knowledge at the University of Georgia.
Am enjoying being here I love being in Athens. There are many things to do. Game days at the best. You have a lot of fans in one place cheering on the dogs as the tee up between the hedges. There is also a lot of culture to be discovered downtown Athens. There are many restaurants and stores that offer a taste of many different cultures. Athens is a place to meet all kinds of people and have a lot of fun. It's really a place for everyone.
Bang for the buck The money you pay to go to UGA is worth it. You meet a lot of nice and friendly people, make new friends, have a lot of fun, and get the education you deserve.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering this school you should definitely come. This is a school for people who value their education, like having fun, and meeting new people. There isn't anything that UGA or Athens can't offer you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a ton. Most of the professors are very approachable and very nice, however when it comes to the Chemistry department, beware. When they say that Chemistry is a weed-out class they are being serious. Our class dropped from 300 students to 150 by the end of the semester. Overall it is a great university and totally worth the time and money.
Am enjoying being here The campus life at UGA is great, I am currently living in a residence hall and I love it. Each floor is like a tight-knit family. There is plenty to do, such as the gym a.k.a the Ramsey Center. In this facility there is everything from Racquetball Courts to Table Tennis. The food is also amazing, there is a great variety and very delicious. Outside of the campus there is also many places to have fun and plenty of places to have your own adventures throughout your college career.
Bang for the buck The tuition for UGA is very do-able. I am one of two college students and my sister attends a private college and we are still able to afford the tuition. If you have the opportunity to obtain the HOPE scholarship or grant, do so. It cut the cost of going to UGA in half. Tuition usually runs about $5,000 and totally worth it.
Tips for prospective students Go in with a focused mindset, the slightest hint of complacency will come back to haunt you. Also the first week of school go out of your way to make friends with the other residence in your hall, it'll be worth the effort and an opportunity to make life-long friends.
Great for these types of students Great for the outgoing and focused students who don't mind being a number. Good for the semi-reserved students who are willing to work as hard as they need to in order to achieve a good grade.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love to learn new things, especially when I am really interested in the subject. Some of my professors have been phenomenal, and I have learned so much in such a short time and have excelled in those classes. Some of my prerequisite classes, especially english, seem unnecessary because I have not improved my writing or learned anything. A PHD candidate, my professor cared more about talking about herself and her life's accomplishments than asking for our input or giving assignments to strengthen our english skills. I had better english classes in high school. As for my other classes, the professors are prepared, thorough and seem to really care about their students! A mixed review.
Am enjoying being here Football and sports are a huge part of the UGA experience. If you are a football fanatic, you will fit right in at UGA, but if you do not care about football, you may not feel as connected to the student body. Greek life is a large part of the party scene and social scene at UGA...Personally, I do not enjoy football or the Greek scene so I have had some difficulties finding my place. Many freshman I have met are so concerned with drama, partying and fitting in. Finding diversity of personalities, activities and viewpoints in people is challenging. I have never felt a strong connection to Georgia and to the South. UGA is definitely a classic southern school and with that comes people with all the qualities of the South. My favorite memories of my time at UGA would definitely be the music scene. I have been to a Rebelution/Tribal Seeds concert downtown and also seen the Five Browns perform at the UGA music center. Both were amazing performances that have made my stay at UGA memorable!
Bang for the buck As a resident of Georgia, I have the HOPE scholarship. Paying for tuition, the scholarship has helped tremendously in paying for UGA. The campus is beautiful, programs are excellent, downtown is entertaining and the dining halls and workout complex awesome! One of the biggest pros of UGA is the cost.
Tips for prospective students Do not steal food from the dining hall...you will most likely get caught. Do not bring too much stuff to fit into your dorm room...you will collect many things throughout the semester. If you are bringing a bike, be prepared for the hills and the wild bus drivers! Many people absolutely love UGA. The school is so large that each social group is represented. Get involved in campus life and be friendly towards everyone!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Being a student who was hell bent on attending a private university, I was very skeptical on the quality of education I would receive in a public school. However, as a current sophomore Microbiology major, I find myself challenged everyday. Many of the professors in all fields of studies will seem unfair and hard at first but it is all a method to get you to think critically and solve problems in new and creative ways. Once you adjust to the difficulty of college in general, you will find there is much to learn, even in the classes you thought would not be useful
Am enjoying being here Athens is the epitome of a great college town. It is cozy town with a great night life. Though its reputation as the #1 party school precedes it, UGA is fun even for those not into the night life. The campus, itself, hosts many events on campus, most of which are free (like free concerts). Also, as the largest state school in Georgia, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and create your own fun. It is also a great school for sport lovers. Many students enjoy going to football, basketball and gymnastics just to name a few.
Bang for the buck As a resident of Georgia, you become eligible for the HOPE scholarship. This scholarship will pay for tuition and book fees for 120 credit hours (approximately 4 years). Basically you can get a great education for only the cost of room and board each year.
As an out of state student, tuition is higher. However, it is much cheaper to study abroad as an out of state student then actually attend the Athens campus. Many out of state students choose to study abroad for all there years of study.Tips for prospective students The University of Georgia is becoming increasingly competitive every year. They greatly emphasize challenging courses (ex: honors, gifted, and AP level). Tip: admission office suggested to my high school to take at least 3 AP classes, however that was 4 years ago and now it may be in your best interest to raise that minimum.
Things like high SAT and ACT scores are important. GPA is also weighed heavily. The most important thing they value is RIGOR OF CLASSES and EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. They want to see if you can handle difficult classes while finding time to do other things. College is all about TIME MANAGEMENT and the admission office will be looking for students who can display that they have this quality.Great for these types of students Students who want a challenging curriculum.
Students interested in night life.
Students who don't want a small school.
Students who love sports.
Students in search of a great college town.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With a nearly endless list of classes and programs here, it is impossible not to learn what you are most interested in. The professors are extremely cooperative and open to private meetings regarding your specific education. They are quite lenient when it comes to office hours, scheduling times that suit your schedule. I have found that with the extensive resources the University of Georgia provides, it is hard not to get a great education.
Am enjoying being here Though moving away from home was a difficult feat, living independently is extremely beneficial when it comes to creating a life for yourself. With so many new people coming from all over the world, establishing friendships that will last forever is easy. There are literally hundreds of activities available everyday at the University of Georgia, opening the doors to countless opportunities. The campus is beautiful and rather mountainous, which is also tremendously helpful when battling the infamous freshman 15!
Bang for the buck Like any major college, the University of Georgia is not very friendly on you or your parents' wallets, but I can confidently say that it is worth every penny. The education and experience you gain from this school is worth far more than simple dollars and cents. In this economy, finding a job will be a lot easier with a college degree, so in the long run, the amount of money spent now can secure you a successful life in the future.
Tips for prospective students Come to college with a positive attitude! Fretting or hesitating can only make the situation more stressful, so remember that college is a wonderful opportunity that many people do not get to experience, and make the best of your time at the University of Georgia. I was fortunate enough to come here having completed 9 credit hours which was an immense help when establishing my schedule of classes. Keep up with your AP classes! Not only will they better prepare you for college curriculum, but they also save you literally thousands of dollars! Establish good relationships with the administrators at your school - you never know when you might need a good letter of recommendation, they are very helpful. When applying, be confident in yourself. Pretend that the University is requesting you, as opposed to you requesting to go there. They are interested in people who are sure of themselves and know that they will succeed and give the school a good name. Manage your time wisely. Maintaining a balance between work and play is crucial to succeeding in college and make a world of difference when the time comes to attend a competitive university.
Great for these types of students The University of Georgia is a place where everyone is given the potential to be or do whatever they want in this world. With an impressive 34,000+ students, it is easy to find your niche, as long as you are willing to put yourself out there and meet new people. Anyone with a hunger for a great education and an unforgettable college experience should consider the University of Georgia, as it offers both.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A good thing about college is that you basically create your own schedule. You know the classes that you need to take for your degree and you can take them whenever you want during a certain time frame. All of the professors that I have had have been very helpful. The quality of the material taught is very good and I am learning a lot. As a student you need to be very responsible by making sure you go to class, read the material, do the homework, and basically just study. That is the way that has been the most beneficial for me to learn. The professors are usually very helpful outside of class, so that also has helped me learn more.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being here on campus because there are so many things to do and opportunities to get involved in. If you like sports, then you will definitely be good here. The student tickets are very reasonably priced compared to regular tickets. There are even some sporting events where student tickets are free, such as baseball games. All of the sporting events have been very fun to go to. There are numerous activities to get involved in such as intramural sports, sororities/fraternities, church organization, student government etc. There are so many things to try out that I feel sure that you will find something that you really enjoy doing. Even though freshmen are required to live in the dorms, it really is a good experience because you meet so many new friends.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of Georgia, it is great because you don't have to pay tuition. There are some other fees that you do have to pay for, but for the most part I do use the facilities that those fees support.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest trying new things. Find a group that you really enjoy and really get involved with those activities, but do not forget about school because your GPA can drop quickly! When it comes to schoolwork be as studious as necessary and you should be able to make good grades. Meet your professors. Sometimes professors who teach 200 students in one class can't learn every one's name and face, so I would suggest introducing yourself. If you need help go to their office hours and I'm sure they will help you the best that they can.
Great for these types of students Great for people who want to meet a lot of new people. There really is something for everyone, church groups, sports, clubs, etc. There are small class sizes and large class sizes.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the uga campus is absolutely breath-taking with its lovely hills and bustling, energetic students who always find some unordinary way to entertain themselves. the academic level is definitely challenging, but with the right professors, the education is worth the effort and at times, quite enjoyable. the dining halls and the gym are by far the two most amazing features of uga, because they are convenient and never lack variety.
Tips for prospective students sit down at any random table in the dining halls, even if there are other students there. it is extremely easy to carry on a conversation with the students here. they are for the most part friendly, funny, and fairly intelligent. i would recommend joining rotc, a club, or some sort of organization. it is the best way to make friends here and it will make your college-life so much easier and less lonely. there is always something to do, so don't feel embarrassed to join in on random activities around campus. :]
Academic Rigor i would say the academics here are challenging, but i can't give it five stars, because there will always be those classes that are super-easy or super-hard. that is up to you to rate yourself.
Dorm Life i recommend dorm life!! live it one year before you judge it. dorms are conveniently located and it is definitely easier to get around the campus. the best way for you to ease into uga is living in a dorm. there are all types of dorms for you to choose from: quiet, party (shhhh), smart (honors), luxury, etc. don't be afraid to ask around (everyone does).
Food and Dining as i stated before, the meal plan here is incredible. from mondays @7am to fridays @2:30pm, one of the dining halls is open for un-lmtd service. it's so crazy!! you can walk in at 3am for a break from all-nighter papers. there are also three other dining halls open 7 days a week. there are grills, sandwich sections, salad bars, main lines, cereals, drinks, breads, a wok, and an omelet area! the dining halls have practically everything.
What to do for fun there is always something going on. :] movies, concerts, vollyeball meets, ultimate frisbee, medieval (pretend) fights, harry potter themed games, dawgs after dark (student activities with lots of free stuff and fun things to do!!), etc! if that doesn't make you happy, we are conveniently located next to downtown athens, where you can go to a club (they have 18+ clubs for underagers). for the religious students, there are many, many, many night concerts, lunch dates, and break-out sessions. :] there is so much to do here for everyone.
Bang for the buck it is definitely worth the money. it is up to you whether to make it worth coming out of your family's or your pocket.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a saying that if you go through the arch without having graduated, then you will never graduate (it used to be, you will become sterile). ask around though, most people know it :].
Great for these types of students definitely the number one group would be the party-ers. if you like to party, do it here. athletic students would also love it here. the campus is a work-out itself, the gym is fantastic, and there are recreational activities going on every single day (hands-down). smart kids, and musicians would love it here too. amazing academics for the bright ones, and definitely an awesome band (redcoat marching band rocks).
Campus Safety the campus safety here is pretty awesome. you have cards, and hand scanners to get to your dorm rooms. there are always police everywhere, and there are many ways to contact help if necessary. it is pretty safe around here, but don't go around walking by yourself at odd hours in the night!!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it may be a big school, but the university of georgia holds many opportunities for their students. there are countless was to get involved with the people around you. it is a great environment and there is a lot to learn here.
Tips for prospective students get to know your peers before classes start. being sociable with others will help you in the long run. also, join or start a study group for classes in which you may need more help.
Academic Rigor classes are a little challenging, but they are many people here to help you obtain the grade that you want. tutors, peers, and professors will give you the help you need.
Dorm Life all freshman are usually housed together, so it is easy to find people similar to you. there are many options for where you want to stay.
Food and Dining we have four dining halls and all of them basically serve what you want. one of the dining halls is open for 24 hours, so after a long day of studying, you won't have to go to sleep starving.
What to do for fun there is an event that uga has every month called dawgs after dark. it is a free carnival full of fun things the students can do. athletic games are always eventful, and clubs and organizations always have fun things planned.
Bang for the buck for georgia residents, it is worth the money. there are a countless amount of things to do that are already paid for.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus anyone that plans on graduating from this school should not walk under the arches located on north campus. it is known that if you walk under it before you graduate, then you will not graduate for uga.
Great for these types of students it's great for all types. everyone is welcome. there are groups of all types of people here, so it is easy to find people with the same interests as you.
Clubs and Activities everyone has something to do. you can name any type of group and uga has it.
Campus Safety police are everywhere on campus. people here are honest most of the time.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UGA is diverse and abound with opportunities for everyone and anyone. Because the school is so big, it's next to impossible to not fit in somewhere and it is very easy to find something you love to do. UGA is a good mix of school, extracurricular and off-campus fun.
Tips for prospective students Find something you love to do and join a club or organization that supports that. Go to the campus events which act as healthy breaks from studying or excellent sources of information.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor depends on the class and/or major. In general, if you keep up with your classes and put in a decent amount of study time, you will do well in classes with plenty of free time leftover.
Dorm Life Dorms at UGA can range from small, box-like rooms that two roommates share to full apartments where roommates get their own rooms. Amenities and quality of rooms and bathrooms depend on the dorm chosen, but generally freshman dorms are the least pleasant while the apartment style upperclassmen dorms are the nicest. Also, some dorms are close to dining halls but not to classes while others are among all the classes but you must walk far for food.
Food and Dining UGA's food services are decent and try its best to provide a wide variety of food. It has one 24-hour dining hall, but it is small and the least diverse of the dining halls. In downtown Athens there are many different eateries of all styles of food.
What to do for fun There is a free movie theater on campus; shows come through campus throughout the year and many are free to attend if you are a UGA student; there are countless clubs and organizations; the gym is an amazing complex with several huge pools, also free to students. However, certain classes cost money to take, but they're fun so the money is worth it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The education isn't like Ivy league, but that's to be expected. However, for a public school, with a large and vibrant campus, that also includes students who participate in facilitating everyday situations, this school makes the learning experience very pleasurable.
Am enjoying being here Dorm life, meal plans, the whole college shebang, and it's wonderful. The variety of people is enormous, the traditional rules of high-school friends are off, anyone is up for a friendly chat.
Bang for the buck Prices have gone up lately, but as a school, it's still relatively low price, and amazing.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get atleast a decent GPA!
SATs count for a lot at this school, as well as with many of the other southern universities.Great for these types of students If you want the full experience, but are on a budget, this is a great university to attend (if you're instate)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA offers a variety of classes that interest a diverse range of students and also satisfy graduation and degree requirements. Try something new!
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. The people are diverse and friendly. When you walk on the campus, you truly get that I'm a college student feel. There are numerous programs, and you will always find something to do. Always.
Bang for the buck Tuition is fixed, so you can take as many hours as you want without an increase in price. Take advantage of this. Also, know that HOPE pays out at $200+ dollars per HOUR taken over 12 hours up to 15 hours, but tuition doesn't change.
Tips for prospective students Get to know people, look up all your options, and do NOT slack off the first semester. Everyone will tell you here's the differences in high school, but the truth is...it's not. Study even when you think you don't have to. But, if you can, looking up things on Sparknotes.com, still works.
Great for these types of students Every type!

Bang for the buck I feel like we can charged for something new everyday and more and more gets taken from us. The students do not get a bang for their buck.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work. Do not come to college expecting it to be like high school because it is different. Do not get caught up in the downtown experience because i have seen many people start off very bad.

Bang for the buck You definitely get more bang for you buck. Everything you pay for here is given to you in bulk. It's a great school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a great deal at the University of Georgia. There are so many different subjects available for study, and there are so many opportunities to grow and learn from not only the excellent professors, but from other students as well. I have studied everything from organic chemistry to science fiction theory. I have had the opportunity to engage in discussion with people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, each of whom has helped me to experience something new and further my education in a unique way.
Am enjoying being here I love life at UGA. There truly is something for everyone, whether your interest is Varsity football, language immersion groups, intramural sports, art, politics, or volunteer service. There are so many ways to get involved and meet new people.
Bang for the buck UGA is a great deal for the money. We've been described as having an Ivy League education for a public school price, and that really is so true. UGA has become extremely competitive in recent years, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to be challenged, receive an excellent education, and have lots of fun along the way.
Tips for prospective students I definitely recommend that new students get involved in extracurricular activities. UGA is a really big school, and if you are not engaged in the community, it might be easy to feel lost. By getting involved in group activities, you can meet friends that will last a lifetime and maybe even gain a great new hobby or interest.
Great for these types of students UGA is so special because it's great for all types of students. It's huge and diverse, and there really is a place for everyone here. No matter who you are or what you like, you can find someone here who will relate.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Classes are classes. Some are really enjoyable and interesting, some are boring and hard to get through but I think that's how it is for every college. I can say I have learned a lot here at UGA. Most of my classes have been very interesting and every one of my professors have been easy to approach if I ever had a question. UGA is competitive but doable. Some will have to study hard and often and some won't. But I have learned so much here at UGA, both in a classroom setting and as a person. The people I am surrounded with are helping me grow as an individual and my teachers are helping me grow and learn as a student.
Am enjoying being here Athens is more than I can explain. It will quickly become your home. UGA has so many opportunities and activities to make the college transition as easy as possible. We have Dawgs After Dark events which are just free events for the student body which include activities like a ferris wheel, kayaking in the pool, a rock wall, free food and casinos...basically just free fun. We have our own movie theater with new movies for only $3. There are over 400 clubs, basically a club for everyone and if there's not one you like then you can make your own! There are so many religious organizations, intramural sports, bars and the downtown scene, opportunities to serve in the community, Georgia Football, great shopping, the botanical gardens, the Georgia Museum of Art and so many more. Athens and UGA has a lot to offer. UGA can be seen as a big school but it can be anything you want it to be.
Bang for the buck College is expensive but it is worth it. If you have the HOPE Scholarship it will help pay for your funds but you will still pay around $3,000-$4,000 in student fees, this does not include housing but does include the meal plan. UGA is an amazing school and I would do as much as I can to go here. I definitely think it is worth the money. Besides tuition, student tickets for football games are $8, most events out on by the school are free, the restaurants are amazing for the price, these are just some examples of expenses but it is definitely worth every penny.
Tips for prospective students In terms of living situations if you are a freshmen I would live in one of the high rises (Brumby, Creswell, Russell). They are in the best location and you'll make many friends. Those dorms are also very close to the Student Learning Center and the Tate Center, both facilities are considered the hub bub of campus.
Take advantage of the first year. There are SO many things to do but be careful not to spread yourself too thin. I have several friends who just did too much and either lost the HOPE scholarship or transferred home. Remember school is your first priority.
Take advantage of the services at the school, because you're paying for them! Ramsey (the gym), free tutoring services, transportation, and any events put on by the university.Great for these types of students I came into this school thinking that a certain type of student goes to UGA but I was quickly proved wrong.
This school is great for people who want to better themselves as students and as individuals, who want to learn more, who want to be part of a real community and who want to enjoy these four (or possibly more) years of college.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot This university is educationally diverse and professional. I have been taught by several UGA alumni, for academics and sports, those of whom were top level educators. I am proud of the school even though I haven't taken any classes there.
Will enjoy being here The campus is thriving! My visit to the library, campus, and stadium was extensive and informative. The average student will surely be busy with studies, clubs, sports, art, and social soirees. Thankfully the college is like a microcosm of marvelous events.
Bang for the buck I would be concerned about the cost of living and attending college on the UGA campus. Even though I am eligible for in-state-tuition or hope scholarship money, the cost of attending will always seem a little steep. But hey, it's Athens and you are assured to have a great education and future.

Bang for the buck The school is pretty expensive so it's best to find a few scholarships and start saving up money so you can afford to go without getting a loan the first year.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I can honestly say that I am learning a lot! Not only am I learning, but I am also enjoying many of my classes! For example, I never liked history as a subject, but I had an amazing teacher and an even better TA. This enabled me to learn a lot and earn an A in the course! To be completely honest, you also learn a lot about yourself outside of class since Athens is all about the University of Georgia which builds a great sense of community!
Am enjoying being here I love being at UGA! I honestly can't see myself anywhere else!! The classes and the people are great! I intend to continue my education at UGA's law school after I get my Bachelor's.
Bang for the buck Since I am a Georgia resident, UGA is very affordable! HOPE scholarship is a lifesaver!
Tips for prospective students GO TO CLASS!!! I cannot say that enough!! Throughout my first semester I thought I could just read and study and wouldn't have to go to lectures......I was very wrong! Lectures aren't as bad as people sometimes make them out! Try to go into class with a positive attitude and a good nights rest and you will be fine!
Great for these types of students I think being self motivated is very important! I have a friend who is pretty apathetic about going to class and studying which resulted in her losing her HOPE scholarship and wasting a lot of time and money to fail classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot While it is easy to be distracted by the party atmosphere on weekends, UGA offers amazing opportunities to students who are ready to learn. From research opportunities, to amazing study abroad courses, You can definitely find the resources here that you need to be a real professional in your field. Also, the professors at UGA can help you get connected in the professional world.
Am enjoying being here UGA is not only a great place to learn, but there is an abundance of student organizations and programs to get involved in, or, if you prefer to have more time on your hands, there are also lovely parks, one-time excursions, an interesting downtown area, and many community events to keep you entertained and connected without being burdened.
Bang for the buck UGA is pricey but as long as they can remain unaffected by major budget cuts it is well worth the price you are paying. Keep your eye out for scholarships and financial aide though!!!
Tips for prospective students Get to know your professors and find a balance between your social, academic, and hygienic lives. Also, go ahead and memorize the UGA bus map as well as the major Athens Transit bus lines (both are free to fee's paying students).
Great for these types of students In order to succeed at UGA, you can't fade into the background. You have to make sure you stand out. Talk to the professors, participate in community events, and talk to your neighbors. This will both keep you from being overwhelmed by the huge campus, hold you accountable, and give you resources when times are tough. This is the kind of place where you have to take charge of your education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot College is not like high school where you can do your homework in class and be done. The work may not be lengthy but it can be extensive. It's a totally different environment; teachers don't always teach from the book... some teachers don't even use the textbooks but want you to purchase other books. Just like all experiences of learning, you'll have some very boring teachers, some average teachers, and some very excited and life changing! There will be some nights that regardless of how much you don't procrastinate, you'll be up all night doing projects or those extensive homework assignments! Be prepared.
Am enjoying being here College is what you make it; if it's boring, that is because you've never tried anything. If it's so exciting that you can't get your work done, you might want to relax a little. Being here at the university is so much fun and at the same time challenging. For most of us, we are traveling from different states or this is our first time being away from home for an extended period of time. Don't let that scare you, though. Everyone has experienced that and can tell you how they dealt with it. For me, I was excited to come here. This was my first time moving, so it was a new life for me.
Being here allots you so many opportunities. Besides it being the #1 party school in America, there are many productive clubs and organizations that are involved in the Athens community such as UGA Heroes, UGA Miracle and UGA Relay For Life. These organizations help specifically with children with any ailment. If you're looking for fun in in the arts, there's a dance group PUMOJA that puts on shows all the time. Hugh Hodgson School of Music has many ensembles to choose from like Concert Choir, Opera Ensemble, AACE, and more. If you're more instrumental, they have marching band or symphonic band and orchestra. Lamar Dodd School of the Arts is next door as well as the Georgia Museum of Art. The dining food is a must have! There are four to choose from- Bolton, O'House, Snelling, and ECV. With your meal plan, you can go in as ever many time you want and dine with your friends, even if it's just to get ice cream. The school is AWESOME and has endless opportunities! Take advantage of them! And don't forget about the sports! GOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!Bang for the buck If you're from Georgia, you get your bucks' worth. You get HOPE and the Pell Grant if eligible. When you get to college, keep your GPA up because the standards have changed. Remember the fees that are being paid for and take advantage of them. Go the recreation center sometime or attend Dawgs After Dark each month if you have time. You paid for it; go!
Tips for prospective students -Never accept the answer no from those who don't have the authority to tell you so.
-Have fun, try new things, be innovative, and make your presence known!
-Learn exceptional networking skills and get involved.
-Do your best in all you do!
-This is not high school; leave your old drama there!
-College is not all about how you dress... you don't have to be fancy to be important.
-The best thing that you can do in life is be yourself!
-College is not a competition of who can finish first; it's also not meant for you to be there forever. Use your time wisely.
-Freshman 15- just stay active! If you're going to eat a lot, make sure you balance it out with be extremely active.
-Before you join organizations, go to their interest meetings and see what they're about. Don't join because your friend is in it or because they're colors are pretty.
-Don't worry too much if you don't see many people like yourself in the beginning; they're out there, you'll find them.
-All of your classes are not going to be 300+ like people say. Most of your classes will actually be about 30 or 40 people tops, especially when you get into your major.
-Whatever you do, TRY your best NOT to PROCRASTINATE! It's a killer!
-When a teacher gives extra credit (if they do), do it! It can only help you, not hurt you.
-Too much work and not enough relaxing can be more stressful than having too much fun- BALANCE IS KEY!Great for these types of students UGA Heroes, UGA Miracle and UGA Relay For Life- focuses on helping kids with ailments and raises money to assist them
Sierra Club- focuses on doing away with the coal that is behind the Child Development Center at the university and helps the environment.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Honestly, I know people say a lot about lecture halls not being good for instruction but in my first year at UGA, I only had one lecture hall class...and it was actually one of my favorite classes! I have enjoyed almost all my teachers. I have been challenged but not TOO stressed. :)
Am enjoying being here I definitely love UGA. I only have two main quibbles. First, I didn't have the best roommate experience, but that can happen anywhere you go. Second, I really wish the campus was more diverse. If you are looking diversity, UGA is NOT the place for you. The campus is mostly Caucasian.
Bang for the buck In state tuition really can't be beat. It's a great college and if you can secure the ZELL scholarship (GPA 3.7 and up) or the HOPE scholarship (GPA 3.3 to 3.69) that makes it even better. The meal plan is pretty pricey though but it's not required (although I strongly recommend it since it's an all you can eat meal plan with a Monday-Thursday 24 hour dining hall (plus three more that have good hours as well). Their independent and distance learning online program is well priced too. It's about $700 for a three credit hour class.
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY ACTION. I applied for the regular deadline and I had to write like 5 essays (they were short though).
LOOK AT HOUSING CAREFULLY. I personally made sure I didn't get a freshman high rise. Some people like the bustling social environment that they offer. I just see it as loud and noisy so I took one of the small lower five dorms (the rooms in those are bigger too and you get your own sink in the room).
SIT IN THE FRONT ROW IN LECTURE HALLS: Seriously, you learn more, you stay more alert, and it feels less like a lecture hall, less intimidating.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE BUS SYSTEM: It's your friend. ; ) Get a bus route map and when in doubt just ask a bus driver where the bus is going. They're really friendly. I've never had one look at me like I was stupid for asking.
DON'T OVEREAT: The food is good...but it will be their all four years! Pace yourself and don't become a victim to the freshman 15...or 30.
DON'T FRONT: Yeah, it's a big school but just say hi to people and be yourself. We're all trying to figure this college thing out together (especially other freshmen).Great for these types of students Party type students (obviously. But I am NOT the party type). Music majors, journalism majors, food science majors (that program is really really good), anyone doing an agriculture related major (the advisers there are helpful and personable), and in general students who know how to balance fun with school because their WILL BE lots of opportunities to slack off but their are also LOTS of opportunities to succeed. : ) -Vanessa M. Categories Rating Comments Will enjoy being here I went to orientation and everyone seemed so fun and the current students there were very nice and helpful! I think I will have a wonderful time at UGA.
Bang for the buck I'm having a little trouble with money right now! However, it is a good school and I think it is worth it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA has plenty of opportunities to learn and figure out what you are doing in life. The teachers are willing to help you out, and there are plenty of study abroad or non-traditional learning opportunities. You can learn a lot by just listening in class, or even attending an event on campus.
Am enjoying being here There's always something going on whether it be football games or club meetings. There are plenty of fraternities and sororities out there (we didn't get named the number one party school for nothing). And downtown Athens has plenty of fun shops and restaurants to try out. If you are looking for something new to try, check out the Medieval and Renaissance Club on Monday nights at Meyer's Quad. It's a real treat!
Bang for the buck The financial aid and basic counselors just go by the book. Sometimes it seems like they don't care what your situation is. If you don't fit in their tiny box, you are out of luck for getting help. The teachers are good, but underpaid, as a lot of the money goes towards the football team or other sports related funds. The dining halls are decent, but the food quality is not the greatest, and it's pretty pricey for what you are getting. Don't rely on anything in the dorms; UGA just overbooked by 500 freshman and had to request that some upperclassmen who had housing contracts already find other housing options.
Tips for prospective students Have an idea of what you are going to be doing in life, even if it's a few different options. Take advantage of your electives and core classes and use them to help you figure out where you are heading in life. It's better to try several options while you still have electives and settle on one choice rather than focus on one path from the start to find out it isn't really what you wanted to do.
Great for these types of students If you are artisticly-minded and looking for a big name school to come to, this is a good fit. It's also a good fit for those who are looking for a party or football team over better resources for education. The teachers do their best with what they have and try to help you out. If you already know that you won't be receiving much financial aid due to parents finances, try for a whole bunch of scholarships and private loans, as the financial aid department won't be able to do much for you.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students I don't think I have to tell you that UGA is a great school, so I'll skip it and tell you the rest.
First, if you'd like to attend, APPLY EARLY. I can't say that enough. The application is just plain easier, and focuses more on numbers (SAT, GPA, etc). So if you're good on paper (I'm talking without writing an essay), do that!
Second, don't be afraid. I was scared that UGA was too big for me. I changed my mind the minute I set foot on campus. There is something for everybody in Athens, and the town and school get smaller with every year you spend there.
Third, apply for scholarships! HOPE is great and all, but skip the stress over finances by being awarded money towards your education.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck Try and find people who have taken your classes before so you can buy your books from them. Books can cost a pretty penny, so you can usually get it a lot cheaper from friends or by looking at ebay or amazon. There are some classes where you can get by without even needing the book, which you can usually determine the first day or two of classes.
There are also a lot of GREAT free tutoring opportunities. So take advantage of them before you pay for tutors, or study with friends!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA I have learned not only the material required for me for my classes, but also the necessary skills to be successful at life. Time management and study skills are always helpful in whatever you are doing, and there is never a teacher who doesn't want to see you excel in their class. You may come across difficulties in your classes, and that is where forming a bond with your teacher or finding a tutor comes in hand. With these resources you are able to make use of the information you gain from classes and turn it into knowledge that you won't forget shortly after the test is complete.
Am enjoying being here There is always plenty to do, from various clubs to intramural sports. You will never find yourself bored with all the events, forums, and programs that often provide free food or a free t-shirt. At these events, you will make friends with different people outside of the people you meet in your dorm building. Dorm life itself it also very fun, once you get to know the people on your hall you will find that you all have a lot in common sometimes, or even if you don't you can expand your horizons as you all share your experiences.
Bang for the buck UGA is definitely worth the cost that you have to pay, because of the many opportunities that will be provided for you once you attend. You will meet people who have worked their way through several degrees as they guest speak at several of your classes, and from them you will learn exactly what it takes to achieve your goals.
Tips for prospective students If you're going into a science major I suggest that you take a science class during your final year. It will make your science classes at UGA somewhat easier. The science classes are tough classes and will challenge you to think. Also never be afraid to ask for help, there is plenty of help out at the school, and your professor's are always willing to help during their office hours. Also I advice that incoming students practice good studying skills.
Great for these types of students I believe UGA is great for all types of students who are looking to work hard, and have fun at the same time. There is something available for everyone, including tutors and study groups. The campus is always buzzing about something and offers many opportunities for those who attend.
