Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot No matter what major you'll get into, you'll definitely learn a lot. There a many professors who care if you're actually learning or not and they will try to engage you as best as they can with the amount of students they have. I'm in the Honors College and it's crazy. I've learned much about philosophy and literature while there for the mandatory Human Situation class. I'm a Kinesiology-Exercise Science major and the classes I'm taking are worthwhile. The professors are knowledgeable in their fields and they continuously participate in research to further the standing of UH in the academic world. This allows research prospective students a chance to participate in university research.
Am enjoying being here There are hundreds of clubs and organizations, not to mention activities on campus. Even though I don't sleep in a dorm, I enjoy UH. A world-class Wellness and Recreation center, an underground center called the Satellite, housing restaurants, study areas, TV rooms, pool tables, the University Center with shopping selections, and the Welcome Center, which includes more stores and places to grab a bite. The campus is not too big, so you can walk places if you don't mind the exercise. The people are great, the grounds are green, and there's quite a lot to do.
Bang for the buck Quality education for a better price. Although tuition is going up, the SGA is trying to freeze tuition to help students. The University is also offering $70 million dollars worth of scholarships for incoming freshmen! Lots of scholarship opportunities available from the university itself, the different colleges, and the organizations on campus!
Tips for prospective students More tips... Well, it's better if you learn some stuff on your own.
Great for these types of students There are lots of competetive departments at UH. The Health and Human Performance Department is ranked #1 int the nation. We have an interdisciplinary Honors College, which offers the finest in faculty. The Entrepreneurship school is ranked #1, the Law School is ranked nationally, and there's more. So if you're thinking of entering some of these fields, go for it! Go to the UH website to learn more about it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The instructors care for the success of the students and try their best to get through. For me personally they are very flexible and easygoing about their office hours and are more than willing to work with the student.
Am enjoying being here There are so many events on campus for everyone! With U of H being mostly a commuter school they try their best to bring everyone together one way or another. Because of the diversity, there are many clubs and organizations which are great.
Bang for the buck Affordable tuition!!! With many financial aid opportunities!!
Tips for prospective students Even if you have heard it a million times, reading the chapters before lecture is REALLY helpful. Also no matter how well of an expert you are at cramming the night before an exam it will do you no good if the final exam is cumulative
Great for these types of students It is a great school for those who wish to live close to home or live at home. Those who want to experience many cultures in one this is the place for you! University of Houston is the most culturally diverse college in the nation!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a LOT since going to the University of Houston. There are a lot of great professors, and there are a lot of tools to help you succeed. Some professors have their lectures recorded, and you can use those to review, or if you missed class. And there is a lot of tutoring you can get if you need it.
Am enjoying being here I really like UH. It is a really big campus, but it doesn't seem so bad once you get used to it. There are so many things you can do if you when you are not in class. There's the Rec center, which is my favorite thing about UH. So much to do in there. The Gym is upstairs, and there is even an indoor track. And you can choose from a lot of sports to play from like Basketball, Racquetball, Badminton. There is also an indoor soccer place, and many more things to do, you definitely will not be dissapointed. There are also a lot of places to eat, in both the UC and Satellite.
Bang for the buck Very affordable tuition. Plus there is so many oppurtunites to receive financial aid. Plus UH has a chance to become a Tier 1 school, and that is a plus. Paying a reasonable tuition to a Tier 1 school is a very good deal.
Tips for prospective students AP Classes and Dual Credit classes are your best friend. They can help clear out so many of the required classes you have to take, called the CORE classes. Everyone has to take these CORE classes, regardless of major. And you save money as well.
Try to go to as many sporting events as you can, like Football and Basketball. You will be surprised when you go and you start cheering. It is a very fun atmosphere, and a good way to take a break from your hard studying :).
Learn to manage your time and study habits. That was one of the hardest things for me from the transition from Highschool to College. It is VERY different. The amount of time you have to commit is very different, well unless you are a super genius. And don't be afraid to get help if you need it.
And wear red everyday :D. Go COOGS!Great for these types of students ANYONE. Especially if you love Houston, want a great campus in a very active city. And it is very affordable. UH is a great school, and is becoming close to becoming Tier 1 like other Texas schools like UT and A&M.
Not too many reasons to not go to UH!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Definitely learning a lot, my teachers were great, very helpful. My teachers actually treated me as an equal instead of as a student so that motivated me to learn more. There are TA's there to help me if I have any questions. And everything is very well organized.
Am enjoying being here My senior year I was ready to graduate in order to go to college and leave Houston. I had the choice of going to 7 different colleges in Texas but I decided to stay at the University of Houston. I thought it was going to be horrible. I was completely wrong, everyone is nice and there is so much going on. You can hang out at the Satellite Underground, watch UH beat Texas Tech, or just sit at the fountains and have a picnic. It's a completely different atmosphere than high school, and I'm enjoying it.
Bang for the buck Very affordable. I am from a middle class family so I didn't receive any financial aid from FAFSA, so paying thousands of dollars for housing at another college was not in the question, but that was not a problem. UH financial services helped me by giving me scholarships for being and undergraduate and for going into my majors school. It helped relieve the stress on my wallet. And not only that that educational quality is amazing, one of the best schools in the country.
Tips for prospective students Rate My Professor is your best friend. Be social and you'll make friends easily, with 200 other people in your class you're bound to meet someone. Don't let the class sizes intimidate you, if you listen and take notes it'll be easy
Great for these types of students Anybody who wants a quality education, and have fun at the same time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Houston offers a large amount of options for your academic ambitions. At the same time it ensures that it has the professors to back them up. Most of the professors I've encountered are well educated in their fields and make a good effort to teach effectively. There also seems to be a professor for any learning preference a student might have. Now as with any university there are some professors that aren't too great. But with the assistance of RateMyProfessor.com you should have a great learning experience in all of your classes!
Am enjoying being here This campus has a very unique blend between a mature and relaxed atmosphere with an eventful and exciting atmosphere. There isn't as much campus life as some others out there, but that can be attributed to the fact that it is a primarily commuter campus. Even still there are plenty of ways for both commuters and those on-campus to get involved. Be sure to get things like admissions, class selections and financial aid done quickly, though.
Bang for the buck Without a doubt the bang for the buck is great. I originally came to the University of Houston because I was going to pay for college myself and it was affordable. To my surprise though I got a lot more out of it than I thought and so far have only raked in a minimal amount of debt (especially compared to some friends at other universities!). Keep in mind that this university is pushing to be Tier 1, so it's educational quality is up, while it's tuition still remains pleasantly low!
Tips for prospective students If you're a last minute person like myself, this will have to be your one exception. Getting things done as soon as possible is key to having a good experience at the University of Houston. If you need to get something sorted out with the school, go in person and arrive early (preferably as soon as they open in the morning). Otherwise you'll find yourself in a long line (30min-1hr+).
Great for these types of students This is a campus for those who want to have a relaxing and laid back college experience and still get things done for a good price. However if partying is your definition for college, the University of Houston is not your school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Being an engineering major, one wants challenge in classes which I am definitely getting here at UH. The professors teach you more than just what you have to know for exams, they teach you what you need to know for future. Although this is a pretty big university the professors are really effective and helpful, if you need help they respond back efficiently or you can simply go to a TA, the tuition center, etc.
Am enjoying being here I think UH is awesome! I love being here because it is a beautiful campus with beautiful people. You get to meet new people and learn new things about other religions, cultures, ethnicities everyday! There are many fun events everyday, you can easily find bake sales, club invitations, volunteer oppurtunities, etc,. on your way to the library, in the University Center, and other such places. If you want art simply go to the Blaffer art gallery or listen to music in the Moores building.
Bang for the buck UH most definitely gives you the bang for the buck and even if you think that UH is a bit pricey in the end it will pay good for coming here.
Tips for prospective students Apply for admissions, financial aid, and scholarships early because they do run out fast. Read your chapters ahead of class and come to class with questions. Form study groups with hard working people and not just friends. Also, come early if you drive a car because parking runs out pretty fast.
Great for these types of students Great for students who love meeting all types of people and who want to be in a friendly environment with good studies.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This does depend on who your professor is and what major you are in. This school is great, in some departments. Do your homework and see if this is the right school for the major you want to pursue.
Am enjoying being here More or less.
Pros: Great security, starting to get more functions for on campus students, several facilities for you to use, awesome library.
Cons: Still in the transition stage from just being a commuter school. Often seems insensitive to those living on campus. EX: Restaurants and stores close very early. Shops close early. Important offices close very early. If your staying at a dorm you may or may not have your cafeteria open on the weekends or finals week, not to mention you can't stay in the dorm over Christmas break and you do have a 'kick out date' where they take your key.Bang for the buck Very cheap university and you get a great quality of education. However like I previously stated look into the department you want to be part of. Some departments are very organized, others are administrative disasters.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Honestly. If you go in for the quick apply in November you find out that day if you are accepted or not. Takes a load off your mind. Take dual credit classes, don't necessarily rely on your AP scores to count. I know a student here who scored 4's or 5's on all 6 of his AP tests and only 3 of them counted towards anything. Dual credit is a lot less stressful and you're pretty much guaranteed college credit. Also I can not stress this enough, but look into this school and your will be department before you make your choice. This is a good idea to apply this to whatever school you are interested in. This could be a great experience for you, or it could be a horrible one. Things to take into consideration: Responsiveness, organization, availability, are the advisers worth their salt, what perks do they give you ex: help with internships, and ect.
Great for these types of students This school is known for it's law program, the business school, the hotel restaurant management school, creative writing program, architecture school, and its math/science school.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences amazing school! i transferred here from ut for family reasons. i was prepared to be a bit disappointed by what uh offered, but instead i was shocked by how much it offered, from very knowledgeable professors to the overwhelming amount of student life and school spirit. i see more red shirts on campus at uh than i ever saw of burnt orange at ut. (except at football games. dkr stadium is pretty big, but uh is about to build a brand new stadium) since i've been a student here, we've received tier-one status in research, been invited to join the big east, received the #1 ranking in the nation for our entrepreneurship program and much more. i'll always love ut, but uh is #1 on my list!!!
Tips for prospective students keep your grades up and ace the sats/acts.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of houston is a campus full of life and spirit! the school has so much to offer from tons of clubs to join to constant school functions going on at all times. it is impossible to be bored here for there is always something to do.
Tips for prospective students time management is the key to succeeding at any college but if you are able to prioritize your study and homework time, it is very easy to have free time to get a job, go out with friends on the weekend, or join clubs to make friends!
Academic Rigor the academic curriculum is very good. no matter the size of the classroom being of 550 students or a lab of 20 students i was impressively surprised on how personal and passionate all of my professors were of making sure all of us students succeeded. college courses consist of mainly lectures so get ready for a lot of independent study. the campus involves a faculty of teachers who want to see students do well and not just grade them as another number without a name.
Dorm Life dorm life is awesome! it helps students like myself learn how to become self reliant and independent on my own chores and work. it also helped me make friends very quickly in a cool way for the fact that we were all living alone at a dorm together. its also nice to live on campus because when you wake up in the morning its really convenient to walk to your class, bookstore, or the rec center whenever you want to go!
Food and Dining the dining services always offer tons of variety of different entrees every single day. the areas are set up in a buffet style. i love not having to go out of my way off campus when i want to grab a bite to eat before my next class. whether you feel like munching on some cereal, grabbing some pizza really quick, splurge on some dessert, or take a healthier approach and eat some salad, the choices are endless and its great having options.
What to do for fun when having to take a little breather from the books a perfect place to go on campus is the rec center where you can work out or pick up a game of volleyball, basketball, or badminton with a friend! there are so many fitness classes you can take for free like kickboxing, yoga, or zumba or you can kick back at the leisure pool. if you want to mix it up some days they have an arcade on campus with a bowling alley! and as always there are school spirit functions and clubs having events going on all around campus at all times of the year. trust me it impossible to be bored here.
Bang for the buck this tier one university offers a great quality of education for its buck. it has a good yet tough curriculum but hey, that's college! although you cannot expect to go to any college or university and not buy books for your classes. fortunately the first year many students find friends in their class where they decide to share books for half the cost. or there is always the option to rent or buy used books. not all can be rented or bought as used since editions are updated each year but for my first year at this university i was able to rent all of my books and spend under 250 for the year.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus a very unusual tradition i had not heard of any college every doing before was the week before finals and winter break the library had set up a school function where they handed out free pancakes and juice and coffee to all uofh students who wanted a little midnight snack to keep them up and energized when studying for finals. it was great and the pancakes were delicious!
Clubs and Activities there are too many clubs to list! whether your interested in academic competitions, physical sports clubs, volunteer programs uofh offers all of it and so much more! i am a full time student and i joined two volunteer clubs, a religious youth group organization, and the on campus church choir. and i'm still thinking of joining an inter mural sports team at the rec center. it is not impossible to manage your time right because i am a dean's list student and i still have time to juggle all my clubs, go out on some weekends, and workout at the rec center. so there is no reason why you shouldn't join a club that interests you because you'll have a blast!
Campus Safety due to the availability of classes one of my labs was only offered from 6-7pm but after i would exit the building which was all the way on the opposite side of campus from my dorm, security carts were already patrolling the premises to make sure us students were safe getting to our destination. there are also security light posts placed all around and the campus is always very lit up at night time. i feel very secure and safe at all hours that i am on campus grounds.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences in my opinion, this school is underrated. it is an excellent university with excellent professors and spectacular school spirit. it can definitely compete with other texas universities.
Tips for prospective students for prospective students, do not overlook the honors college. it provides so much more opportunities. it's like having a small community within a community. you can meet a lot of new people and actually bond with professors. class sizes are smaller, professors know your name, there are a lot more students like you, there are many organizations within the college itself, and it is overall just an amazing experience.
Academic Rigor being in the honors college, the classes are more rigorous but not impossible. since there are less students in your classes you can get together with them and form study groups and increase your understanding of the curriculum. the only reason there is for failing any classes in the honors college is not trying.
Dorm Life the dorm life is fantastic. you meet way more people that you could ever imagine. having a place to stay at school and not having to go home everyday is the best thing one could ask for. you learn so many skills by living on your own and those are things that you will probably use for the rest of your life.
Food and Dining the dining facilities are top notch, especially the real food company at moody towers. this all you can eat buffet style dining hall provides an array of different foods. from pizza and burgers to pastas to salads. there is even a vegetarian line that can have the foods being served that day made vegan upon request. you can't go wrong with the real food company. there are also fast food restaurant all across campus such as chick-fil-a, subway, taco bell, wendy's, pizza hut, murphie's deli and much much more. you can never go hungry.
What to do for fun what not to do for fun. you can go to the state of the art recreation and wellness center, the rec for short, and join pickup basketball games, get in some games of raquetball and ping pong, go to the mac and play some indoor soccer. there are always classes going on such as zumba, yoga, core, dancing and kickboxing. there is an indoor track so you can get some laps in. there's an indoor pool so you can go for a swim whenever and during the fall the outdoor pool is also open. there are many places around campus for entertainment. the university center has a bowling alley underground that is incredibly cheap for students. downtown is just down the highway so you can enjoy the houstonian downtown experience. you have the houston rockets, astros, texans, dynamo sports team that you can go support. the museum district is very popular and so is the fine arts district. you should never say there is nothing to do because that means you're just being lazy.
Bang for the buck big bang for the buck. great college education without the high costs of ut and a&m.
Clubs and Activities there are clubs and activities for anybody. if you want to join then you will find a club for you. if there isn't one, you can make one!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At the University of Houston (main campus), the quality in teaching is not only high but the teachers on campus want all of their students to pass. The different teaching methods include lectures, labs, question games, quizzes and so much more. During my first year at the University of Houston, I not only enjoyed the teachers but enjoyed being taught. I definitely learned much more in a semester than a whole year in high school!
Am enjoying being here I LOVE the atmosphere at the University of Houston! Everyone is super friendly and you get to meet people from around the world. I would definitely recommend living on campus the first year of your college life because it is worth it! The social life that freshmen pick up on campus enriches the learning process. I met my best friend at the Moody Tower dorms and we now attend classes and workshops together.
Bang for the buck Although the University of Houston may seem pricey. the experience is worth every penny and the educational value is so much greater! Compared to some other universities, the University of Houston is one of the best. The university just became a Tier One school, for a public university, that's a huge accomplishment. There's no going wrong when choosing to spend your money here!
Tips for prospective students 1. Don't spend your money on fast food!
2. Remember that you are paying for your classes! So get out of bed even when you don't want to in the morning!
3. Stay safe at night and be sure to hang out with the right crowds.Great for these types of students The University of Houston is great for social and pro-active students!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I think that this school seems like it has a lot to offer, particularly in the engineering program that I am going into. I feel as if going here will allow me to get a good education in the field of chemical engineering.
Will enjoy being here When I first went to the University of Houston, I felt a good feeling that I did not get from the other colleges I had been to. Also, it is located in Houston, which has an incredible amount of opportunity for jobs and is a great city.
Bang for the buck I think that this school definitely will give me the education that I want at a price that seems very reasonable. It has outstanding programs and has received multiple awards recently, so I think that I will get my money's worth.
Tips for prospective students If you are not quite in the top ten percent of your class, be sure to apply as early as possible, as you can still be automatically accepted into the college if you are in the top twenty percent.
Great for these types of students This college seems like it is a good fit for those who want to experience a lot of school pride without some of the arrogance that comes from other Texas schools. Also, it definitely is for those students who wish to be around students from many different cultures, as it has one of the highest percentages of international students in the area.

Guess what I enrolled this semester its great and I am going to Turkey! Dr. Kanik is a great professor! Anyone who needs language credit should take Turkish. They offer so much.
Am enjoying being here The ambiance and diversity is wonderful!
Bang for the buck ewww....A little expensive for me....but overall its a decent tuition compared to a private!
Tips for prospective students Study!!!! Go to the Library eight floor wireless works only there...

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are very straight forward, and most will do their best to help you understand everything they can. Even if your professor isn't available, there is the teaching assistants and even other students and tutors to help.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is just amazing. So much school spirit on a regular day, and even more on game day. There is just always so much to do! The clubs and other student organizations make the campus come alive.
Bang for the buck As with all colleges, it is a bit pricey, but where else can you walk along campus, get a free hot dog from a sorority and see student made sculptures? Nowhere. The professors are always looking for ways to make textbooks cheaper, and less difficult to use.
Tips for prospective students Apply Early! The good housing gets full pretty early. But the classes usually have a lot of room. And try and get involved on campus. If you're into band, join the Spirit of Houston Marching band. We have lots of fun, and you meet tons of new people.
Great for these types of students UH is great for those who want the typical college experience (away from the family), combined with big city life. It's also great for students who want to focus on the arts or sciences. The hotel industry is also well represented here, and is great for up and coming restaurant and hotel owners.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers at this school that I have encountered are very passionate about their field. They are well informed and transfer as much information to the students as possible. Not only do we have an amazing staff who teach us a lot, but we have a great library for those students who love to teach themselves or just like to expand their knowledge more.
Am enjoying being here This campus is pretty large so there are many things to do. From enjoying sports, self-recreation, extracurricular activities, and/or academic activities, and just plain leisure. There is always something to do and someway to enjoy the campus.
Bang for the buck Compared to many colleges, the University of Houston is not too expensive and there are plenty of opportunities for financial aid. The price is great and the learning experience is too. We have some of the best colleges in the nation when it comes to hotel and restaurant management, business, architecture, and many other majors.
Tips for prospective students You have to love or at least like coming to school. Study hard and read in all of your classes. Most important get to know your teachers and ask for help. Don't hesitate to use the resources given to you. They are there to help you.
Great for these types of students Great for people who like diversity. People who are open to new ideas, cultures, religions, etc. Also, all those who are hard workers and unique.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Houston is everything that I could have imagined in a school. It offers classes that fit my daily schedule, work-study opportunities, food, fun and so much more. It is conveniently located near major Houston attractions, so you are in the center of everything surrounding the Houston area.
Tips for prospective students I believe that college is an experience that you will never forget so I would say to have fun in whatever you do. College is about the books and making the grades but it is also about making lifelong friendships that will carry you through tough times!
Academic Rigor The academic competition at UH is fierce. We have recently reached Tier 1 status so advisors are constantly changing degree plans to make sure UH students are the best students to hire. I know that I have learned so much by going to class because my professors are very knowledgeable about the subjects!
Dorm Life I have never lived on campus in a dorm.
Food and Dining The food at UH is wonderful and affordable. They offer many options to choose from such as Subway, Taco Bell, and even deli sandwiches and Starbucks.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of Houston is a school that looks good on the outside but on the inside is a cornucopia of GPA destroyers. The science and math problems are so highly recommended but when taking the classes i received minimal to no help from my teachers and tutors to solve my problems, as well as a lack of solution manuals. if it wasn't for the library, and other students i might never have passed my classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am in the Moores School of Music here at the University of Houston studying Music Education, so, though I can't say much about other majors, I can say that this has got to be one of the best universities for any kind of music study. Every studio has teachers that work outside of the university setting, meaning they are teaching you efficient and effective techniques and methods to apply to your pursuits after college. The faculty is amazing and always willing to help out even the most confused soul on campus.
Am enjoying being here UH has earned every single one of those gold stars; experiences here have been so awesome that there is no need to sugar coat it. If you march in a high school band right now, I HIGHLY recommend continuing marching band here (we get a nice band grant every fall semester, just saying). There's too much to say about how awesome it was just during the first week. Just the people and the atmosphere alone are great reasons to be here. This campus and a vast majority of the people in it are genuine and welcoming ( I lost my iTouch in the middle of campus one day and it was turned in to UHPD instead of being stolen). There are always activities going on around the campus, and the food at Moody Towers is nothing short of yummy and satisfying.
Bang for the buck I have a twin that is attending college now, too. Even though money is tight for us, UH is affordable and definitely worth every penny spent except for this deal with meal plans. Basically, if you stay in a dorm on campus, you are forced to choose a meal plan whether you use it or not (obviously if you pay for it you need to use it). I'm not saying meal plans are awful and pointless (the food is good and its super convenient to have healthy food that is already prepared for you), but the trouble we run in to is that any meals you have leftover from the semester don't carry over to the next semester. This means that if you don't use every single meal you paid for in this meal plan, you've already wasted money. Granted, most people end up using all of their meals by the end of the semester, but if you plan on keeping yourself busy at all times, I would recommend living On-Campus apartment style because then meal plans are optional. Other than this aspect, the quality of education you receive and opportunities given are exceptional and totally worth it.
Tips for prospective students If you're going to commute, you're gonna have to wake up really early to find a parking spot because finding one may take you at least half an hour if you don't. A lot of commuters I know drive to campus early only to nap in their cars for a couple hours before class starts. That's got to be the only downer about UH. That, and make sure you figure out where the university testing center (CASA) is asap, because it takes new people about three tries before they actually find the place. If you can, ask an upper-classmen to either show you where it is or give you detailed directions. Finally, always keep in mind that what makes college hard is working around the distractions you face, not necessarily the actual courses you take (though, that can become a handful, too). Every single student on campus is in the same boat when it comes to studying and homework, so your friends will understand if you have to miss out on a party or two to do well on your midterms. Also, don't walk around campus by yourself at night (you shouldn't do that anywhere...); the campus is in the middle of the third ward.
Great for these types of students This campus is awesome for people who want to be in close proximity to superb medical attention, great shopping opportunities, outstanding liberal arts showcases, tasty food, friendly crowds, and a quality Tier One education. The city of Houston hosts a large variety of services, shopping, entertainment, and education opportunities that you'd really have to try hard to be bored. If you're big on city life, this campus is great for you. If you've got a country heart like me, it's still a great place to be. While on campus, the fact that the university is in the fourth largest city in the US completely escapes your mind.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have only attended UH for a year and it is such a great school. The professors seem to enjoy seeing their students succeed. They make you learn material for tests on your own instead of spoon-feeding you.
Am enjoying being here UH has an amazing rec center that is great at relieving any stress you may experience. The library will also become your best friend with $20 worth of free prints and free computer access.
Tips for prospective students Make friends with people who live on campus and have good meal plans they can swipe you in for lunch every now and then.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The most intriguing characteristic about any course is the professor's love for the subject. So far, most of my professors have had a passion for what they do, and that makes me learn more. US history is one of the most boring subjects to me, but the professor I had made me learn more than I have learned in any history I took in grade school. The education is much more vivid and alluring with these types of professors.
Am enjoying being here I was extremely hesitant to attend the University of Houston just because it does not have the best reputation among Houstonian high school students. Most want to leave the city and go explore college life. However, even though I never thought I would do this, I was judging the school's credibility on high school senior popularity. Within a few days of attending the University of Houston, I was already falling for it. The location is perfect: the campus is five minutes from the ravenous Hermann Park, the museum district, the medical district, main downtown, Montrose, Rice University and many other things.
Bang for the buck Commuting has saved my bank account immensely. I commuted with a friend for my first year, and it in all honestly is not bad. If you are tight on money, then spare yourself for a year and drive. The tuition of approximately $4,000 a semester is unbelievable, especially compared to my other friends who attend places like the University of Texas at Austin, A&M University, and the pretentious Baylor and Rice. The university is very much worth the cost.
Tips for prospective students I personally have not had trouble with time management, but most people who I have met have told me they struggled in their transition from high school to college. It is possible you may be one of those students, so the biggest piece of advice I can give is to learn how to prioritize. Your friends might be going out and it may seem like they have more of a social life than you, but do not feel left out. Every action that you make will help shape your future, so make sure that if you are having trouble with some classes, do not stress out, and think about if it would be worth going out with your friends that night or if it would be better to stay the night in and hit the books.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are a lot of tutoring centers located on campus and inside the new freshman dorms Cougar Village that will help you with homework and also essays. They are very useful when you are in need of help so I suggest to take advantage of them. The teachers are also willing to help. You can contact them by email, visit them during their office hours, and they provide Teacher Assistants who are willing to help you if needed also.
Am enjoying being here University of Houston is a very diverse college. The most diverse I have visited. There are many different cultures you could learn about. There are also many activities that are held in the dorms so that everyone can get to know one another on their floor. There is a lot of school spirit on campus, which also makes me love the school even more.
Bang for the buck It is very affordable!!! I have heard that the tuition here at the U of H is the cheapest compared to other schools in the state of Texas.
Tips for prospective students Even though tuition may be affordable I still suggest to sign up for as many scholarships as possible. The more scholarships the less money your parents would have to take out of their pockets.
I suggest to stay on campus your first year of college. You get to experience the college life, closer to class, making more friends, and more fun!!!
Take advantage of going to as many events as possible such as football games, basketball games, and etc. Don't spend most of your time in the dorms or you would miss out.
Tour the campus as much as possible, you would learn more about it and will be able to find your classes quicker because your so familiar with the buildings around you.
Don't get too carried away with hanging out. School first, then fun. Its easy to get off track because you don't always have someone telling you to do this or do that. You make your own decisions, so make them wisely.Great for these types of students I say that there is nothing that is great for a certain type of student. EVERYTHING at U of H is great for ALL students! U of H is a VERY nice campus with nice people to become friends with on campus. Also we are close to being a Tier 1 college. So if you ask me, there is no reason not to come to U of H and become a cougar. GO COOGS!!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are so into what they are teaching. Even if you do not like the class subject, you will learn so much from the class, because the professors make it an enjoyable journey. I've learned so much; I only expected to really learn things in my major which is political science, but I've learned many new things in math, psychology, and new techniques in writing. They're professors are amazing!
Am enjoying being here It's a large city and a commuter school, so if you don't have a car and you live on campus, weekends can be very lonely. When they have things on campus for students, take advantage and go!
Bang for the buck They have great things on campus that make it worth the price. The rec. is great! The quality of education is great! Everything is great for the price!
Tips for prospective students Don't be so shy and scared that you don't get involved. Getting involved will help you meet new people and could possibly help you with networking. Be outgoing!
Great for these types of students This school is great for anyone. This school has so many different kinds of people, you'll fit in no matter what type of person you are!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors truly care a lot about their students, and many of them bring in their personal experiences into the class from their past employments. Even the classes you are required to take for the core course requirements, the professors are helpful and understanding.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and small enough that you can walk all around. The Rec Center is also free and well-kept; it's great for anyone who wants to practice sports or keep in shape.
Bang for the buck The fees may seem like a lot, but many people don't realize what they provide the students with access to, such as free admittance to the Rec Center and $25 loaded on your student ID to print at the library. It's also MUCH cheaper than the other schools around it, and we're aiming for Tier One.
Tips for prospective students Apply early, and rack up as many AP/DC courses as you can. Everyone has to take the core courses, so, for $75 or an AP test and a little extra work, you can skip having to pay for another course that you took at a lower level in high school.
Great for these types of students Students who want to get the most out of their money and learn from the best should apply to UH.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are tremendous educational opportunities available here. The professors/instructors help you whenever you need it, and if they aren't able to help, they'll definitely direct you to someone who can or a tutoring center that will explain the material to you. Each class that I'm enrolled in is very refreshing compared to the dreary high school days. The cirriculum isn't easy; I'm definitely being challenged, which I recommend for all prospective students because we all need to be challeneged if we're going to make it after college.
Am enjoying being here The population at the University of Houston is a big melting pot. I've befriended different people that have many unique stories as well as interests. There's a club/group/organization for any of your interests.
UH's campus has everything you need, and if you're an enrolled student, you are, of course, the priority. There's a fitness center that requires no fees for you to use, a wonderful library that has quiet zones for independent studies or the group study commons, and many facilities for you to eat whatever you are craving (American, Asian, Vegetarian etc). And for all of the eco-friendly people out there, UH's campus is very green! There's a recycling bin around every corner; we've recycled over a million pounds of paper, cans/plastics etc.Bang for the buck No one likes wasting money, so you'll be glad to know that you're going to get your money's worth if you're planning to attend the University of Houston. As I said before, the cirriculum is challenging, so you must be willing to study, come to class, and pay attention. Those are three things that every student should do, especially if you want to get the bang for your buck.
Tips for prospective students Apply early, go to New Student Orientation and speak to your advisor (make sure you don't overload yourself when enrolling into classes your first semester) and definitely get your books as soon as possible! Quite a few students are without books because the Bookstore runs out or because they didn't reserve one early enough.
You should also apply for FAFSA and as many scholarships as you can. If you have any problems, the financial aide advisors are there to help you through it.Great for these types of students Any students who are willing to work hard, want to meet new, amenable people, and want to have a great college experience!

Am enjoying being here This school is located in one of the biggest cities in the world so if there's nothing going on, on campus (which there usually is) theres ALWAYS something to do around the city no matter what your into.
Bang for the buck The University of Houston is one of the best valued price Universities in the nation, and being a very diverse school you are exposed to alot of fun activities. Also the living expenses next to tutuion are close to nothing, you always can find fun things to dow ith low money, and joining clubs and orginizations are all low cost.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing early freshmen so you can live in CougarVillage its the best housing!
Great for these types of students If you like diversity and different types of background this is the perfect school for you!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is a lot to learn while you're enrolled. The good part is that if you don't understand any topic then there are different human resources you can go back to along with the professors who dedicate there office hours to help as many students as possible. First semester isn't that hared. If you're a top High school student you'll find it quite easy. Of course, the more hours you take the harder it gets (or more required study time). Just make sure you enjoy every subject even if you don't really like it.
Am enjoying being here There are a lot of events going around the campus all the time, and about 400 organizations to join. You create your own day. Manage your time, and pick the organizations and events you like the most to get the best out of the experience.
Bang for the buck If you aren't a resident, then get ready to pay high tuition. Financial aid helps, but you still need scholarships to cover the expenses. From that angle, if you can get into a better college then go for it. But, UH is still worth it.
Tips for prospective students Take the earliest orientation session possible.
Don't stick to Ratemyprofessor.com's opinions. I enrolled in a professor's class that has really bad rating on there, but he came out to be a really nice and good one. Let's face it, you have to study whoever your professor is.
Ask whenever you're confused.
Keep visiting the office of scholarships and financial aid (and others) until you get done with what you need.Great for these types of students Everybody can fit in. Social, diverse, competitive, sports, and shy (you better get rid of it though, trust me, I'm one of those, it's not cool)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even though UH doesn't have a great reputation when compared to other Texan universities like Baylor or UT or A&M, it is still way up there. UH is pretty much an underdog because it does have just as much learning potential as those other schools.
Am enjoying being here I live in the dorms and college life is great! If you decide to commute you won't have as much fun, but that applies for every school, not just this one. Classes can also be fun if you choose the right professor.
Bang for the buck Considering it isn't tier one, it's somewhat pricey, but you still get the same education as tier one school's, so it's worth it in the end. Financial aid is also very helpful here. Apply for school scholarships and financial aid! They are very helpful if you're confused about anything.
Tips for prospective students Don't slack off! I know this university doesn't really have as big of a name as other universities in the state, but it's still as tough as they are education-wise. So study whenever you can and don't fall behind because in the end, it'll bite you in the butt. Remember, college isn't the same as high school.
Great for these types of students Those looking for a college with diversity and those wanting a good education. School spirit is definitely a lot more than what it has been in years past. Great for those who want to be a part of a growing university.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot of new and interesting things but the material isn't always as challenging as I would like it to be. I am trying to transfer out to a more difficult school within the next year
Am enjoying being here Houston is my hometown so I don't really enjoy being back here and living with my parents. Location of the University is bad too, it's in Houston's Third Ward. Third Ward is a poor, impoverished, black neighborhood and I sometimes get nervous just driving through it. Crime rate is really high and I don't know how the people living on campus do it because I would be scared for my life every second.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for. Tuition is cheap and so are the professors lessons.
Tips for prospective students If you get in, great. My advice would be to get your GPA high in your freshman year then transfer out.
Great for these types of students Students that want an easy degree from an accredited University.

Tips for prospective students If you decide to be a commuter, come early or find a way or system that you will have a parking spot when you get to school because you will stress out about it.
Academic Rigor There are study groups and outside help you can find if you don't understand anything or just want to be prepare for an exam coming up,
Dorm Life I don't dorm but one of the pros is that you don't have to mess with parking.
Food and Dining There are plenty of food joints that you can choose from.
What to do for fun You can go to the REC where you can exercise and relax or watch plays or concerts that are happening at the time.
Bang for the buck There are free lunch day every week.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences One of the best school's in TEXAS! Also the most diverse school in the nation. Anyone who comes here will have the best college experience no matter your background.
Tips for prospective students -Definitely apply for financial aid on time, try to get it in before April 1
-If your not comfortable with sharing public bathrooms with about 30 other girls than you might not want to live in Moody Towers.
-DO NOT BUY YOUR BOOKS FROM THE BOOKSTORE, I made the mistake of doing that my first semester and I wasted over $350.Academic Rigor The University does a lot to promote studying for finals. During finals week they have a lot of events that helps you relax and de-stress for finals and they give tons of tips for how to study and prepare. From what I've heard most of the professors on campus are great but it's always a good idea to check them out at ratemyprofessor.com
Dorm Life I recommend staying at cougar village because you only have to share a bathroom with 3 other girls, the rooms are bigger in size compared to other dorms, and they were just built last year so everything is new. Also, the dorms are only for freshman so it'll make finding friends really easy!
Food and Dining There are two cafes on campus. One called the OB is better than the fresh food company cafe only because they serve the same food all the time but it gets repetitive because there's no variety. With the fresh food cafe they serve different things every day but it's either a hit or miss. Like every other campus we also have fast food restaurants like chick-fil-a, taco bell, taco cabana, etc...
What to do for fun TONS! Literally. There is so much to do from going to football and basketball to all the different activities going on on campus daily. Actually my first year going to U of H, Beyonce came to our school and we had a gym class heroes concert! Talk about fun!
Bang for the buck Worth your money. Financial aid paid off pretty much everything all I had to do was buy my own books so that was a plus. The university also offers a variety of scholarships so be sure to check those out.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not too sure of any unusual locations or traditions on campus...yet.
Great for these types of students If you love to work out and take gym classes you should definitely check out the recreation center it's open till 11 pm, and it's huge.
Clubs and Activities Wayyyyy to many too list here honestly. Check out the UH page for more information on the many different clubs. But GET INVOLVED, a lot of great opportunities come along with it.
Greek Life The greeks on campus have there own apartments on campus. They also have tons of events for ANYONE to come to and they are always really fun.
Campus Safety We have police offers on duty at our campus 24/7, and If you have like a late class and you don't feel safe walking back to your dorm alone you can call one of the security guards to assist you. Also, at the dorms not anyone can get into them you have to slide your campus id card to be able to get in.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Houston truly is a college on the rise. It is a very diverse and continuously growing campus in one of the largest cities in the nation. It offers an excellent education and in such a large city, the opportunities are plentiful.
Tips for prospective students Get comfortable with your surroundings. It's a big city so spend a day or two exploring. MAKE FRIENDS. It is a safe campus as long as you're conscientious.
Academic Rigor The university offers a challenge.
Dorm Life Depends on the dorm. The Moody Towers were crowded and always cold. Community baths weren't the best either. All other dormitories are decent.
Food and Dining Pretty good food on most day. Still expensive, even with the meal plan. The cafeterias are crowded and far unless you live in moody towers. Food in convenient stores around campus are ridiculously overpriced ($7 sandwiches)
What to do for fun go to the rec, discovery green, astros games, rockets games, dynamo games, intramural, numerous clubs to join.
Bang for the buck Exceptional price for what you get.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus rubbing the cougar paw in front of the fountain is good luck before a test. Also wear red on Fridays
Great for these types of students Any type. It is so diversified.
Clubs and Activities intramurals are fun and greek life is active
Greek Life Bayou is always crazy
Campus Safety Surrounded by 3rd ward but pretty safe considering its surroundings. Campus police HQ is close and constantly patrolling. You'll be fine as long as you aren't blatant. Don't be outside at 1am by yourself and expect to be 100% safe, just like any other campus.

Tips for prospective students Don't go in this intuition expecting hand outs. You have to earn everything here.
Academic Rigor The academics at this school is great! Can get overwhelmed of you don't take the time to do your work.
Dorm Life The dorm life its the best part of this university.
Food and Dining Good is good at times but mostly ate off campus.
What to do for fun Me, I wrote music, poetry,.and record songs. But you can go downtown and you'll find something within five minutes.
Bang for the buck I feel as though what I'm paying to attend this institute is worth it.
Great for these types of students Social students, honor students, campus life is great, and the athletics are great too.
Clubs and Activities You have alot of clubs and activities on campus. I'm sure you'll find something that interests you.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Houston is a sprawling, mostly commuter campus that offers endless opportunities, activities, groups, clubs, sports to explore or reinvent yourself. Being the largest university in the fourth largest city of the US, UH recruits world class professors who engage in extensive and renowned research. Because UH is such a big school, it offers many niche subjects in great detail, even when very few people participate in the major/program.
Tips for prospective students Parking is a pain and passes should be obtained as soon as possible to avoid tickets. Carry a map with you for the first few weeks as getting lost isn't altogether rare. Join as many activities and groups as you can during the first semester - this will help orient you in a smaller community, which is important on such a large campus.
Academic Rigor I found the lower level basic fulfillment classes to be fairly doable, coming from a difficult high school. But the upper level courses go into great detail and become quite rigorous and engaging.
Food and Dining The food court here, from memory, includes a Subway, Smoothie King, a Chili's Too, and other such fast food options. Pretty mediocre, as expected for a food court. The Hilton on campus however serves some pretty good food. And there are various options close outside the campus - Thelma's BBQ and Frenchy's being popular options closest to campus, and just a bit further are good Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican restaurants such as the Original Ninfa's.
Campus Safety UH is surrounded by a pretty rough neighborhood, but campus itself is fairly secure. Take care at night.

Academic Rigor Extremely difficult to make A's. The math and science courses are ridiculously difficult!
Dorm Life Definitely an experience, more people should try it out. Live on campus!
Food and Dining Could use some work on choices for meal plans.
What to do for fun It's Houston, you can literally do anything!
Bang for the buck UH is such an affordable school, and it's the best experience I've had between different colleges. So unbelievably proud to be a Cougar! Go Coogs!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This University has a very diverse campus and can give you a great experience. The students and administration are extremely involved in both student and athletic functions. It is located in a great town and there is always something fun and entertaining to do.
Tips for prospective students Don't judge the campus by its location, look deeper and you will gain an experience that you will never forget. Reach out to the many groups and organizations on campus to make your college experience even better. As cliche as it sounds, you have to find a balance in having a social life (which doesn't always include partying) and an academic life. Many of the organizations of campus strive to keep you on trip and motivate you to be the best that you can be.
Academic Rigor This university is really moving up on the scale and therefore it is super important for the students to maintain good grades. Since it has just recently been declared Tier One, the requirements have increased in order to ensure only the best quality on this campus. If there is ever help that is needed, there are multiple places that offer student support and help in every subject.
Dorm Life The dorm life is a very good experience and I suggest that students try it if they have the opportunity. They offer a variety of housing that students of all ages can live in. Cougar Village is a Freshman dorm that also houses students in the Honors College. It is very safe and fun providing many activities that allow bonding between students on their floors and as well the rest of the building. The towers are a little older on the outside but have recently been remodeled to look more modern. They house anyone from Freshman up to Seniors and each floor is divided by different genders. The Quads are dorms that are more of an apartment type housing and they are for upperclassman. Bayou Oaks is where all of the greek housing is and other students can live in the apartments as well. It is a gated area and very safe. Finally, there Calhoun Lofts. They are very nice and very expensive but the only catch is that you have to be 21 in order to live there.
Food and Dining The food options are very nice and offer a wide variety of choices. There are currently only two dining halls that serve different options of already prepared food that is made by the students attending the Hilton College on campus.
What to do for fun There are many activities to do on campus for fun. Whether it is at any of the dorms or the University Center, theres always something going on. The University Center has a bottom floor game area that has a pool hall and bowling that are both discounted when showing your student id.
Bang for the buck There are many places both on and off of campus that offer discounts when showing your student id. To name just a few, there are discounts at the movie theatre, frozen yogurt, and freebirds. There are also many places on campus that offer free and fun entertainment provided by the staff and administration.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In the Spring we have a festival called Frontier Fiesta. It is a three day event that includes a fair, concerts, cook-offs, and variety shows put on my greek paired fraternity and sororities. It is a great opportunity to get to know all of the different kinds of people that attend and work on our campus.
Great for these types of students Students who like diversity, want to become involved, are very school-spirited, and want the college experience of a life time.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities that you can join here on this campus. So many that I cannot include all of them on this review, I suggest that you go to the University of Houston's website and check it out for yourself :)
Greek Life The greek life is very awesome and a great experience. I am a part of the greek system now, but even when I wasn't in one I wanted to be a part of it because it offers so many opportunities. Not only do you get friendships, bonds, and brother/sisterhood that lasts for a lifetime. You also get countless opportunities to participate in philanthropy events and raise awareness for different causes. You get a chance to get to know the other members of the fraternities and sororities and create a tight bond within the whole system itself. Not only do you get the chance of a lifetime while in college, but you also receive great marketing and networking benefits when you graduate as well.
Campus Safety Campus safety is very well supervised. There are always security and police surveillancing around campus whether on foot or bike. If an event occurs on or near campus then the campus police station sends out a campus wide email to inform the students of the incident and ask that they keep an eye out for further incidents.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Houston main campus makes me feel right at home. It is very diverse, with a friendly staff who want to help you succeed. The construction of the campus might seem a bit overwhelming, but chances are you will find a student ready to help!
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should make sure to finish their application as soon and as early as possible. They should also follow up with the admissions office and talk to a counselor.
Academic Rigor Like any University, University of Houston has programs designed to challenge you. The staff that I have met have all been very helpful. From what I have heard, the reading material assigned is tough, but this is college.
Dorm Life I am not planning on living in the dorms, however I did visit three different campus dorms. The dorms are a bit pricey for what you are getting, and I thought it better to get an apartment close by.
Food and Dining University of Houston has plenty of fast food options that are open late for students who are up studying.
What to do for fun There are activities all around campus that you can sign up for. There are friendly people to meet who are usually looking to make friends. There are plenty of sports related activities such as volleyball, rock climbing, and ultimate frizbee. The most recent activity that I have heard about is dodgeball.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of Houston is a Tier-One university that has professional colleges such as Optometry, Pharmacy, Education, Business, and Law. The student social events aspect of University of Houston is amazing, because they are various of student organizations that students can take apart of and network with fellow of students on just about anything. University of Houston has various academic and informational resources that can help the students to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Learn how to network with others that either in the same major or may had taken the class that you may need old course work to help to succeed in the course.
Learn how to utilize the academic resources that are available for use, these can help to ease the misunderstanding of certain concepts that you may face in certain courses.
Learn how to join study groups for those challenging courses, sometimes learning or doing work with other peers can also help your understanding with concepts.Academic Rigor University of Houston have courses that are flexible (depending in what type of field that you are majoring in) but in the same light, this university does have course work that are challenging.
Dorm Life Dorm life in University of Houston especially the freshmen dorms are really luxurious for their needs. Although, they are somewhat pricey (according to the student's financial state). The apartment living in University of Houston, is a bit sub par than living in a dorm but both style of campus housing are structured for convenience.
Food and Dining University of Houston has a dining hall that are dedicated to health eating and one that is dedicated to regular college housing style of eating. University of Houston also offers regular food from common franchises such as Subway, Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, Extreme Pita, and Pizza Hut (with surrounding Food places like Domino's, Wing Stop, and Mc Donald's nearby)
What to do for fun What can be do for leisure are things like participating in annual student events that is sponsored by our Student board, go to the Recreation Center, join an organization and do things within that organization.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor I have had some of the most amazing professors here including two bio teachers who have worked on the human genome project and an art history professor from Harvard.
Dorm Life Really depends on where you stay. The all-freshman housing is great! The RAs make an effort to create a sense of community there. At the other housing options, everyone pretty much keeps to themselves, so that's a better option if you're looking for a quiet environment conducive to studying.
Food and Dining The food here is all right. However, most restaurants close relatively early and one of the two cafeterias completely shuts down on the weekend. The convenience stores on campus are also extremely expensive.
Bang for the buck This school's all right price-wise, but they've recently increased tuition, housing, and meal plan costs.
Great for these types of students Great for pre-pharm kids, business, finance, and english majors.
Campus Safety Recently got an email about an alleged sexual assault at a nearby gas station. Granted, this school is in the third ward, but campus police do what they can. There are emergency phones scattered throughout campus, and campus police make rounds on carts.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Houston has a mass amount of degree opportunities. Professors and school staff are excellent and there to help you succeed. The student diversity ranges greatly and there's always somewhere for everyone and anyone to fit in.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students I suggest talking to an advisor in the field your interested in and get their input on what you need to do as far as your course of action so you can be prepared.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major the academic rigor can be different. Some majors require a lot of intense writing so writing skills are required, others require a lot of math so math skills are required. Lower level classes typically aren't as rigorous, but this definitely isn't always the case.
Food and Dining No matter where you're at on campus, somewhere to eat is close by. There's a handful of dining halls, but there's a massive amount of restraunts including Chik-fil-a, McAlisters, Wendy's, and many more in various locations.
What to do for fun There's ALWAYS something going on on campus! Campus events are very common and there's student groups/organizations for everything you can think of. Concerts, comedians, and dances are just a few of the events that happen on campus regularly.
Bang for the buck Recently rated as one of the top schools for getting more for you money, the University of Houston is one of the more flexible colleges in tuition prices. Even better, tution prices for next semester (Fall 2012) will be changing and tuition costs will be dependent on your major, that way everyone is paying for what they mostly use and not overpaying; i.e., if you're an english major you won't be paying the same as an engineering major because you don't use near as expensive technology or programs.
Clubs and Activities There's an abundance of student clubs that anyone can join. There's something from everyone!

The University of Houston is a rapidly growing University building significantly in size and respect. One thing I fear is the attention to current students verses the new (prospective ones).
Tips for prospective students DO NOT underestimate any classes, making B's and C's in the easy ones can really kill you.

Food and Dining Passable, I guess it's food.
What to do for fun The football program is successful, it's pretty exciting to see them at the beginning of the year. The Recreation facility is amazing, and the plays/activities on campus are great.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Frontier Fiesta, a student ran event that promotes University of Houston and Houston life.
Great for these types of students Students who are serious about their academic success, and with plans of leaving soon. Not really for the 6-8 year undergrad, you will get annoyed of the same old same as time progresses.
Greek Life There is a presence of certain Frats on campus, you'll quickly see who's more dominant.

Academic Rigor Tier One School
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, but heard a fair amount of judgment
Food and Dining surrounded by many fast food restaurants but student life prevents us from buying them most days by making various types of cooked foods from different cultures that are tasty and nutritious.
What to do for fun Many activities to get involved in. From sports at our rec center to programs pertaining to our majors/careers, even campus activities that are just for kicks like their Zombies vs. Humans game.
Bang for the buck Tuition is high compared to community college. It will leave you sometimes feeling stressed, but as do all universities.

I was scared about attending this school during the admission session due to the few negative reviews I read. I an thankful for attending this Tier 1 University; if you want to meet lifelong friends and acquaintances this is definitely the school for you.
Tips for prospective students Always put school before anything else this will save you from so many hardships ahead.
Dorm Life Dorm life is very fun this is where you meet your lifelong friends, only suggestion I have is to apply for housing early so you can choose your preffered housing.
Food and Dining The dining areas are ok they have franchises all around campus but the two you are stuck with are Fresh Food Company, and the OB. There is usually a fifty fifty chance youll come on a day where they are serving good food.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This University is very diverse and includes a wide range of interests. The faculty are all there to help you succeed, especially the academic advisors. There are many places to study, but also to eat, exercise, and have fun.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you apply early so that way if anything is wrong, you'll be able to fix it before the final round is over. Also, you might want to take a tour of the school before applying since you will learn more personal and intricate details about the school from the leader of the tour. You should talk to your academic advisors before signing up for classes to make sure you are on the right path for your degree. Also, sometimes the teaching styles of professors might not agree with you so try to ask around and find out what they are like or look them up online to make sure you'll be in your best learning environment. There are soo many professors on campus, you can't go wrong.
Academic Rigor You have to put in the effort to succeed. The courses almost always require work, but if it does get overwhelming, there are tutors and specific workshops you can attend to help you out. Also, the professors are always keen to help you in their office hours.
Food and Dining There are so many places to dine around campus. However, even though there may not be enough health conscience places, the diversity of the food is still impressive. The prices aren't too bad either, though a bit more expensive than off campus.
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun! Everyday there are almost always activities. There are flyers posted around campus to tell students what's going on. From festivals, to flash mobs, concerts, sporting events, and volunteer work; there is always something to get involved in.
Bang for the buck This is actually a very reasonably priced university. There are scholarship and loan opportunities if you can't meet the price. Also, since we are now a Tier 1 university, you definitely are getting more bang for the buck!
Great for these types of students This university is great for everyone. There is so much diversity and anyone who wants to learn about all types of cultures, this is for you. There is also a wide range of studies to apply yourself to if you have a wide range of interests.
Clubs and Activities The clubs are numerous and range to all sorts of interests. There is a club extravaganza at the beginning of the year so you'll be able to sign up for the ones that interest you. Also, the advisors have lists of clubs that might interest you. Even if thee is no club for your specific interest, you can always try to start one.
Campus Safety There are always security guards and cops walking or driving around campus. There are cameras and light posts all around campus. Even if you don't feel safe walking to your dorm or car, you can always call the campus police to get someone to walk with you.

Tips for prospective students to any future student i would say, do not take your classes lightly. the professors here like to challenge you, and you must be willing to take the challenge. in the end, you'll feel accomplished and will love being at the university of houston.
Academic Rigor with the university of houston advancing in all aspects of its academics, it has become more well known around the country as a tier one school with a stock that is rising. current students of the university know how challenging it can be, but i think they can all agree that being pushed here will just prepare you in a way that helps you conquer what you might encounter outside of your days at the university.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i enjoyed my time at the university of houston because of the amazing world class faculty. the many campus activities made my time enjoyable as well. overall, i would recommend the university of houston to any undergraduate student who desires to expand their knowledge and critical thinking.
Tips for prospective students make sure to participate in as many on campus activities as possible. get to know your professors! i cannot stress this enough. my time at u of h would not have been the same if i had not had the relationships i built with my teachers.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor at u of h is challenging, but not overwhelming. my classes keep me interested and wanting to learn more. my best teachers have helped to make me excited about what we are learning, and have provided challenges along the way.
Dorm Life although i did not stay in the dorms, i do have a friend who lives on campus who enjoys it thoroughly. i visit her often and find the dorms to be clean and friendly.
Food and Dining there are tons of places to choose from, even a student-run cafe! the many school cafeterias provide wholesome and extensive meal choices. the student cafe is run by the culinary school and provides restaurant quality food at student prices!
What to do for fun there is so much to do on campus! bowling, arcade games, pool hall, and recreation center just to name a few. not to mention the performances put on by the music and communications schools. i enjoy just spending quality time with classmates, like getting coffee or just playing cards.
Bang for the buck tuition can be pricey, but in the long run it really is worth it. there is so much that the school has taught me. and when i consider that i am being taught by successful professionals of tier one status, it makes the tuition reasonable.

Tips for prospective students number one on the list be organized. u of h is big and no matter where you are coming from it will still be big. be organized. highly recommend finding your classes the day before they start, it will make your life much more easier.
Academic Rigor this ranges to all levels. again u of h is very diverse.
Dorm Life lots of fun, people from the south are friendly thus making it easy to meet people. u of h recreation center is nice and there are always organized events for students.
Food and Dining u of h has the best, fresh foods company, makes it so. not only delicious, well priced, but almost everything you could imagine to eat and it is not fast food, but restaurant quality. delicious experience!!!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i believe this school has a lot to offer, education-wise, and the opportunities keep growing. as they continue to expand the campus, you can see the love for the school grow as well. overall, i feel the university of houston is a good choice for most people if you're more into the education than the campus life.
Tips for prospective students get involved! the school has a lot to offer but most people aren't aware of the fun, free programs they have since they don't look into it. find an organization to network while having fun and making new friends.
Academic Rigor i find that depending on your major, they really challenge you. i'm a hotel and restaurant management major, which most knowledge is gained through experience so while they teach you the basics of the industry, they also give you opportunities to learn hands-on.
Dorm Life i commute to school so i don't know much of the dorm life, but i heard it's not the best. the school is on the border of third ward, so there is a bit of a danger threat at night, but if you use common sense and your better judgement (such as not walking around by yourself, drunk, at 3am) you should be ok. the dorms have a lot of cement, small windows, and are generally on the louder side. it's livable, but not preferred.
Food and Dining they have a new cafeteria that offers food for whatever mood you're in that is ok (not bad, but not amazing). there are a few dining options around campus. i personally eat at subway almost everyday because they have a vegetarian option, and there are 3 of them on campus.
What to do for fun there is usually an event at least once a week. in fact, for free, they held a concert for gym class heros. there's also really cheap bowling, an arcade, ping pong tables, lots of pool tables on campus. they have an amazing gym with everything you want and fun group classes if you're into that.
Bang for the buck considering how much there is to do and the university of houston being the cheapest tier one university in texas, it is cheap if you live in state as i do. and with the scholarships i got through the school for good grades, it's even cheaper!
Great for these types of students great for students involved with the major they're learning. there are many major-specific clubs to get involved with. if you're more about the greek/social life, this school doesn't emphasize on them as much, but it's not nonexistent.
Clubs and Activities the clubs give you many opportunities to expand your knowledge of the industry you're getting into as well as some of the best networking opportunities.
Greek Life not much focus on it since many of the students are commuters and it's hard to stay active while having to travel.
Campus Safety considering it's next to a dangerous area, even though the campus is not itself, stuff does occasionally happen. there are police post towers located throughout campus as well as security, but it's harder to protect on the outskirts of campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences university of houston is a diverse campus where everyone can find a place where they belong. university of houston is a big campus with a small town feel, everywhere i go i see pride demonstrated throughout the student body. university of houston is everything i could have asked for and more, due to its tier one status, student pride, campus involvement, and a place to be proud to say i am a university of houston student!
Tips for prospective students for future student's who get to experience this awesome university; i would say that it is highly important to get involved. the more involved you are in the university the more you get out of the university. the best moment of my college experience was to perform with my sorority sisters and help raise money for a charity. getting involved with different organizations on campus make you love where you are and helps you realize why the university was the best choice for you. to receive the entire college experience you have to go out and give back to a university who gave so much than you can even imagine to you.
Academic Rigor academics are a high priority. as our motto in my sorority chi omega says to put scholarship before social obligations, and the university of houston is very stern on academics. the faculty and staff provide tutoring throughout the week and the teachers really push to help you succeed. at the university of houston you can have your fun and make good grades too.
Dorm Life the dorms were an awesome experience, i made life long friends and i instantly felt connected with my university. i was able to know of all the functions going on around campus and everything was so easy to just join in. dorm life helped me through the scared of not knowing anyone stage because i was able to make fast friends and enter into clubs that made me feel welcomed into the university.
Food and Dining the food and dining is so convenient. since dorm life requires you to have a meal plan you never go hungry. i also received cougar cash that let me eat in many different restaurant locations on campus.
What to do for fun for fun i had out with my sorority sisters; we like to study, watch television, youtube videos, hang out at a fraternity house and volunteer in different events to raise money for charities. i can never find myself bored because campus life gives you so many options to keep yourself busy.
Greek Life greek life is the best life. you form a bond with your chapter and get to have a whole new family. greek park is filled with many different sororities and fraternities but we all make up one big circle of friends. the campus becomes smaller and you get to know so many different people. greek life gives you life long sisters/ brothers that are there to encourage you through the good and the bad. without my sisters i would not be where i am today, going greek was the best decision of my life.
Campus Safety i always feel completely safe on campus with the 24/7 security and key locked doors. without your accessed cougar card you cannot get into any on campus living unless if you live there. there are security towers in the parking lots and security emergency boxes around campus.

Dorm Life i live on campus and have loved it. the university of houston has an almost brand new freshman dorm and it is a great environment for both studying and making new friends.
Food and Dining the university just built a new dining facility that still has some quirks to be worked out but for college food it is pretty great.
Bang for the buck most of my tuition is paid for by scholarships and most of my classes are challenging so i feel that the bang for the buck is pretty great.
Clubs and Activities i am involved in many different organizations on campus. the university of houston has over 400 registered student organizations that are open to all.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It's not the best school. You have to be on your toes when it comes to getting things done here. Some offices are not helpful when you need them to be, you have to pay for every little thing you do on campus. And there are many, many screw-ups here so beware.
Tips for prospective students Keep copies of any sort of documentation sent to anyone in this school. Do everything asap, including getting financial aid done, enrolling in classes, parking, signing up for tests etc. Good luck!
Academic Rigor It was deemed one of the hardest grading colleges in the U.S.
Dorm Life Some of the dorms aren't bad. Their dining is pretty nice at the Moody Towers. But I've been hearing a lot of robberies and break ins into dorms lately so be careful.
Food and Dining There's several places to eat all around campus, but it's generally a LOT of fast food. Your most versatile option would probably have to be McAlister's next to the Welcome Center.
What to do for fun There's lots of organizations to join, or you can work out or take a class at the rec.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning what I can get from the lectures and in class, but reading is especially important so it is more of a self learn tactic. It mostly depends on which professor you get and how often you attend the classes and pay attention. The students are very helpful here when you need to ask something in class. There is a tutoring center where you can get help for any of your classes, crowded though it may be. The professors are always willing to help or answer questions as long as you see them during their office hours or after a lecture.
Am enjoying being here The campus here is quite nice, and the people here are friendly. There are buses from the parking lots to the campus so that you do not have to walk too much. There are many places to study, especially at the library, which is quite huge. There are a wide variety of fast foods and small restaurants here, enough to keep it varied. I also enjoy the recreation center, as they have a large rock climbing wall, indoor track, and many other activities. There are many organizations and clubs to join here, as well as theater performances every so often.
Bang for the buck The school semester is perhaps five thousand for a commuter, and it depends on the student, and things such as free access to the recreation center is included in the tuition. The campus overall is nice, the classrooms are decent, and the campus is well taken care of.
Tips for prospective students Register for classes early on to get the schedule that you would like, and check out which professor you are going to get, because each professor is a bit different. Get books online to avoid hassles at the bookstore, or wait until the crowds have died down a little bit. The area around the fountains is very quite and has a nice atmosphere to study in.
Great for these types of students It is good for just about any type of student because this school offers a wide variety of activities and clubs for those who want to engage in extracurricular activities. There are many on campus activities to keep one occupied as you are waiting for a class or a friend. It also has a nice ambiance for those who want to study, especially around the fountains or library.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I have come across U of H many times and I love the campus. Every I time go downtown I like to pass it up just to motivate myself and to keep on going through high school life because this college is my prize at the finish line. My mother did her basics at U of H, and a lot of my favorite teachers are from U of H and judging on their teaching skills I can say that U of H doesn't play around when it comes to education.
Will enjoy being here Yes! I have been to the campus a few times...as an outsider I can't imagine any student saying they're bored.
Bang for the buck Yes it's a good deal. It's a tier one college, and need I mention that the place is HUGE...it brings a truth to it's always bigger in Texas. The cost for room and board range from 2,000 to 4,000 dollars and tuition is a bit over 9,000 dollars. So if you're doing the right thing and scholarship searching you should be okay.
Tips for prospective students Keep pushing and keep going...because I am waiting on my letter in the mail too!

I enjoy the teachers that know how to capture the students attention, so I recommend before you sign up for someones class, make sure to research the professor on ratemyproffesor.com to see how other students feel about a course.
Am enjoying being here The environment is amazing. It is such a diverse campus and you get to meet so many varieties of people. There are weekly school events where you will get free t-shirts and food, something that I think college students love.
Bang for the buck For all of the money we are paying for these classes and services, I believe it is worth it, but again I recommend you look up the professor you will be taking and make sure it is the type of class where you will pass. The recreation, counseling, and all other services are very much worth it.
Tips for prospective students Dear prospective students, University of Houston is an amazing school full of a diverse amount of people. Once you get in, make sure you stay on top of classes and deadlines, do all of the readings and homework, and participate and have fun.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor There are many professors on campus that are willing to teach as much as you are willing to learn. If you show interest and participate in class, you will thrive.
Am enjoying being here There is always some event occurring on campus from snow day, where they dump mounds of snow on a small hill on campus, to valentine's day, where you can wait in line to receive a free build a bear. I enjoy being on a campus that is so alive and full of activity.
Bang for the buck The tuition at this university is relatively low compared to many colleges, yet this university is constantly working on becoming the best it can for its students. The University of Houston is currently trying to attain Tier one status, and once it does the diploma that you will receive will have much more value.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and get a feel if it is right for you. Ask the current students that you meet what exactly the like and dislike about the school. Do not be fooled by a Universities shabby exterior, but rather focus on the quality of education you will receive there. The Honors College is fantastic, and it gives you a small campus feel with the benefits of a large campus facilities.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I learn more in some classes than others. My Science, Psychology and History courses are my favorite because I feel like I'm actually learning something. Also, the professors take the time to explain the material we're covering. The courses are all lecture, but the professors are willing to answers any questions over the lessons. My English course was a small classroom setting. I feel as if I didn't learn anything in that class honestly. But at the end of the day, it all depends on your professor and your own study habits.
Am enjoying being here I love being at UH, but I don't really like the campus location. I don't like the surrounding part of town. because it's in 3rd or 5th ward. I don't leave the campus grounds that often, unless I'm going into downtown Houston.
Bang for the buck Most definitely!
The education I'm getting here at University of Houston is worth every penny.Tips for prospective students Apply Early in order to avoid all of the hassle between getting your high school information and transcripts to the office of Admission. The friendly staff tries to make everything as convenient as possible for their students!
