    Am enjoying being here

There are ALWAYS things going on in the Tiger Den or on the track field. It's easy to get yourself in a game of ultimate frisbee or kickball. The SAC also does a great job getting fun events a few times a month.

    Bang for the buck

I have my entire tuition, room, meal plan, and books paid for with scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

The university offers TONS of scholarships, so make good friends with the workers in the scholarship office. They are great at making sure deadlines don't creep up on you out of nowhere.

Great for these types of students

Even if you hate the city, you will love the campus. Around 20,000 students attend the U of M, but it's easy to feel like you belong.

Be sure that even the basic classes you choose your first year are gearing you toward one of your many major choices, if you haven't already chosen a major.....trust me you will certainly change your mind more than once.

    Am enjoying being here

It's great going here, but just like high school, some professors are boring while others will have you leaving their class in amazement, but regardless of whether you have fun in every class, you main goal is to stay focus and learn and make the best of what you have.

    Bang for the buck

The great thing about this school is you have the opportunity to drop classes if you feel uneasy, whether you really feel the class is not for you or whether you will fail the first test, you have the opportunity to redeem yourself before the deadline or just before its too late. there's also a wide range of food choices, so you'll never go hungry. Full-time (12+ hrs) freshmen and sophomores will have a chance to get a meal plan, and a 300 debit balance. You can find more information about dining dollars at the University of Memphis website which is www.memphis.edu.

    Tips for prospective students

    1.STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!!
    2.Get enough sleep for class
3.Have a light snack or eat breakfast
4.Try to workout whenever possible-we have a free recreational facility for students to partake in a variety of exercises and sports---It's FREE with school ID- don't gain the FRESHMAN 15
5.Get a study group started or join one, every bit of studying will help with even the hardest class
6.keep a steady schedule so that you can still schedule other things you would like to do like spending time with family and friends or enjoying you favorite hobby.
7.if you work or would like to work make sure it does not interfere with school. I learned that the hard way but I fixed the mistake before it was too later
    8. Take every scholarship opportunity available. College isn't cheap, and take it from me, you will not want to continue paying for school well after you graduate, many, many, many years late

Great for these types of students

    Am learning a lot

Believe it or not, my classes taught by graduate assistants are my favorites! All of my professors truly care about their students, and they have been very forgiving of first semester freshmen! Although I haven't taken any upper level courses yet, I am actually excited about moving forward because the professors here really want you to learn.

    Am enjoying being here

Unless you're Greek or an Emerging Leader, many people who are overly involved on campus will probably shun you. But... what I've learned is to find a group of people that get you, and to not care about what anyone else thinks! There are many different organizations on campus, and tons of exciting events, so make the most of it and keep your head held high.

    Bang for the buck

Wow! Scholarships here are amazing, and academic scholarships begin with a 26 ACT. TN residents with a 21 automatically get $4000 a year from HOPE, so if you excelled in high school and have high grades and a lengthy resume, everything will be covered. You might even get PAID to attend!
The resources on this campus are all free and range from psychological counseling to interview preparations. We have a great newspaper, and the University sponsors many free events as well. And... our new University Center offers inexpensive, great food!

    Tips for prospective students

Memphis offers many academic and merit scholarships, so do your research and apply early. Once accepted, use Facebook to connect with your future classmates. It really helps to know other students beforehand!
Don't think that you have to become involved in everything. It's good to meet people and do something useful, but remember why you're here: to learn. Don't forget who you are and what makes you unique- and find people who accept that, instead of trying to change you.

Great for these types of students

    Democratic (professors are very liberal)
    Religious (many amazing organizations)
Overachievers (there are many ways to shine here!)
Underachievers (it's easy to slip out after classes without feeling the need to get involved)
Those who wish to impact their campus and community
Volunteers (St. Jude's Up 'til Dawn was founded here, and it's an amazing way to help children in need!)
Those who are sick of cafeteria food (teehee)
TN students with midline ACT scores and little to spend on college

The professors know what they are teaching and know how to teach it. The only drawback would be some classes are taught by students seeking a higher degree in education and some of their classes are experimental.

    Am enjoying being here

There is plenty to do in Memphis, let alone on campus. Whether you want to enjoy Beale Street or if you want to enjoy sporting events, there is always something going on. SAC schedules events through out the semesters that students can attend that relieve the stresses of a college student.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Memphis is a great school, however, just recently the tuition and cost of living has gone up. Due to this the importance of finding and receiving scholarships and grants is greater than ever.

    Did learn a lot

Depending on the subject, I learned alot of things there and it prepared me pretty well for life after school.

    Did enjoy being here

It wasn't too bad, had alot of fun there and there is definately a group for almost every interest.

    Bang for the buck

My GI Bill was able to fund my education without much difficulty and am considering graduate school there right now.

    Tips for prospective students

    * Realize that most of the professors are very liberal and will attempt to convert you to their way of thinking. Its one thing if its a Pol Sci course, its something completely different when its a Foreign Language, English or Math class.
    * Take advantage of the tutoring services available to you.
    * Accept the fact there is student racism on campus because of where U of M is located and that there are normally two of each social club-one for African Americans and one for everyone else.
    * Treat your studies as a job, dedicate yourself to your school work and balance your time wisely.

Great for these types of students

This is my first semester at the University of Memphis, and the amount of information bestowed upon me is amazing. The professors are very informative, and show great concern in their students education. Have a problem learning the material in class? No problem the campus provides free tutoring. Councelors are also always there to help with any issue on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a great amount of student organizations. The mass amount of organizations gives students a greater chance of finding an organization that fits their interests. Most of the organizations completly organized by students; Giving students a chance to be a leader. There is plenty of diversity on the campus. The diversity opens everyones eyes to different things the world has to offer; Therefore broadening the minds of the students on campus. There are a lot more extracurricular activities on campus than there are in highschool. The campus is an all around adventure, because there is so much it has to offer.

    Bang for the buck

I'm very satisfied with the housing, classes, and meal plans at the University. The resources on campus are amazing and free! There is also the free gym, computer labs, study spaces, access into all University of Memphis games. The Uof M definitely gives students bang for there buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Any students who want to attend the University should make sure that they talk to their councelor if they have any questions. Although the University of Memphis staff will inform you with as much information as they can give you there will always be questions. Don't be afraid to ask. It's better a student ask than possibly put a hold on their future.

Great for these types of students

Students that want to be involved, focus on their studies, and become a future leader should definately attend the University of Memphis.

If you put the effort forth to get something out of the class you will, however it is pretty easy to coast through some courses. Most of my experience is with the journalism department and I've noticed that more and more the it is focusing its curriculum on hands on experience. With the independent student newspaper, The Daily Helmsman, at any student's fingertips, there is no reason to not have honed your journalistic skill before graduating.

    Am enjoying being here

The University of Memphis is an extremely active, lively campus. With over 100 student organizations to join concentrated on a variety of interest, there's literally a place for everyone. About 25,000 students attend The U of M, with 90 percent being commuter students. Still, it seems that lots live close by and hang out on campus. Daily there are events for students to attend with a lest kept in the newly constructed University Center and on a online calendar. The Daily Helmsman keeps you up-to-date on campus news and does a great job at incorporating your opinions and what you want to read.

    Bang for the buck

The college is relatively inexpensive with low student fees. The student fees are always put to use, with daily activities on campus, many of which bring in celebrities, bands and other events of interest to students. A plethora of scholarships are also available from The University itself and private donors.

    Tips for prospective students

Buy your textbooks at Textbook Brokers off Walker Avenue. A study done by The Daily Helmsman (dailyhelmsman.com) shows they are the cheapest by far. Be weary of parking in the limited space in front of R.P. Tracks. The area has been known to see countless hit and runs of parked vehicles. Speaking of parking, if you can afford it buy a priority permit, as the lots fill up quickly and everyone's experienced being late to class due to not being able to find a parking spot. If you don't buy a pass to park in the privileged lots or garages, park off Southern, it's less packed than the Central lot.
Most of all, JOIN an organization. I promise there is one that is right up your alley.

Great for these types of students

I'm not being cliche when I say everyone has a spot at The U of M. With a major in most areas, and ways to get involved with any interest, this lively campus offers a lot to a lot of different types of students. The honors program is involved and there are great free tutoring programs for those interested and athletes.
The University of Memphis is great! GO TIGERS!

the university of memphis has a surprisingly diverse faculty and student body for a southern school. there are loads of student help and services available here as well. it's best feature by far is frosh camp, a camp for incoming freshmen to learn about the u of m, make friends, and ask the questions those outside of the university may not have answers to.

    Tips for prospective students

for anyone attending this university, my number one piece of advice would have to be don't be afraid to ask! there is literally a department of service for everything, spanning from academic help to being a first generation student to needing health advice. as a secondary tip, steer clear of the uc (university center) until it's time to socialize! the uc is the center of activity on campus and it is quite easy to get distracted from school work if you are anywhere inside of the building other than the technology hub, a computer lab on the second floor.

    Academic Rigor

i wish there was a way to choose 3.5 for academic rigor. the difficulty of your courses is what you make it. if you plan on being the bum in the back of the classroom that dozes off every ten minutes, is late to lecture, or doesn't do the assignments, then yeah, it will be tough. your professors are more than likely aware of your behavior, bad and good, and both have its payoffs. a positive attitude goes a long way also. when in the math department, an academic tutor is advised. many students complain about the instructors being foreign and difficult to understand. i had that issue both semesters my freshman year.

    Dorm Life

overall, dorm life on this campus is actually pretty cool. there would be only one building people would complain about and that would be rt. i refrained from using the full name to keep from fanning the flames of bad reputation. if someone does end up attending u of m, just ask about rt and anyone will tell you just say no. with that being said, i actually lived in that dorm freshman year and had no problems with it, mostly because i lived on the honors floor and it remained pretty quiet. rt is the most social dorm of them all, recommended for freshmen, maybe sophomores. the remaining housing areas would be best for upperclassmen trying to get in a good nights studying or sleep. we have round the clock security and desk assistance, so its pretty helpful and they have quick responses to problems that may arise.

    Food and Dining

the five star rating isn't necessarily for taste, but for choice and variety. we have many different restaurants on campus in multiple locations across campus. there is even a little shop in the library! if you are a vegetarian or vegan, they have meals for that, if you are a carnivore, there are several places to eat, and if you are a sweets fanatic, look out, because you'll end up gaining the freshman 15 in about a week and a half. as far as known food chains go, we have burger king, taco bell, chick-fil-a, subway, and dunkin doughnuts.

    What to do for fun

there is always a team to support and a game to go to, we have a recreation center complete with an exercise/weight room, two olympic sized pools, racquet ball courts, several basketball courts and more, the university center, also called the uc, has a food court, a restaurant with pools tables, and a movie theater, and we have an organization called the student activities council, or sac, that always hosts different events for almost every day of the week for students to participate in. best of all, there is usually free food involved.

    Bang for the buck

to be honest, we have a rather reasonable tuition here compared to most places that offer maybe half of what the university of memphis offers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

we don't really have any traditions other than the fight song we sing at games, which may be an aspect of most universities. an odd location on campus would be mcwhether library, which is no longer a library, but is said to be haunted by the ghost of a girl who was murdered by a janitor in there. we also have a dorm, myders, that is said to be haunted by the daughter of the first president of the university of memphis. he had it built in the shape of an e, as her name was elizabeth.

Great for these types of students

this university is great for individuals looking to major in education, sports management, engineering, and foreign language, as those departments are really strong and have a lot to offer. this university is also good for students who like a lot of extra help and available information for any and everything involving school and beyond.

    Clubs and Activities

u of m has a wonderful selection of clubs and activities. multicultural, nerds/fandom, anime, naacp, you name it, we have it. and if somehow someone wants to join a specific type of club and it isn't offered here, they could easily create one so long as there are seven members and a code of conduct.

    Greek Life

greeks are heavily involved on campus and in the community. they help with move-ins, tutoring, events, and most anything else you can think of. they definitely keep down the stereotypes around here. my favorite is the yard shows they put on, where they step for everyone while representing their fraternity or sorority.

    Campus Safety

very safe! despite the bad rep memphis gets as a city, the university of memphis is a safe environment. there are officers patrolling at all hours, various emergency towers constructed all across campus, we have dark hour escorts, and emergency tiger text, which is an alert sent to the cell phones of students to keep them updated on suspicious activity. i'm never afraid to leave my dorm at night.

Memphis is a busy city filled with busy people. There is plenty here to keep anyone entertained, and the people here are very interesting. University of Memphis is a campus of accepting, diverse people all working together to create a beautiful community.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for when it rains. Rainboots are a must. While the campus is beautiful, it doesn't have a very nice drainage system...

    Academic Rigor

I honestly feel like the professors here care about whether or not students learn their material. It isn't about grades to them, it's about the passion for what they love.

    Dorm Life

Stay away from Richardson Towers... But everywhere else is decent. These aren't great dorms, though. Off campus housing is a better option, and sometimes it's even cheaper.

    Food and Dining

With the new University Center, all this campus is missing is a McDonalds. There is a wide range of different types of food to choose from, and they're spread across campus so you can get food close to wherever you are. The only problem is that every place is closed early on Friday afternoons.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do in Memphis in general. Lots of museums, parks, and music venues. But on campus, with the new University Center, there's a theatre and a technology hub. And Downtown Memphis is about 15 minutes away from campus, so there is tons of stuff to do down there.

    Bang for the buck

While our football team may be lacking, our basketball team more than makes up for it. There is nothing like being in the crowd at a basketball game and cheering on your team.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year a life size ceramic tiger statue is painted with some culturally significant aspect from that year. For the centennial year, all the tigers were brought out on campus and put on display. It was truly amazing. There are some very talented artists at this school.

Great for these types of students

Musicians, basketball players, and engineers will love this school.

    Clubs and Activities

University of Memphis has tons of amazing organizations. Greek life isn't a huge thing on this campus, but it's presence is definitely felt, and makes a good impact on students. There is also the marching band, one of the most amazing marching bands in the country. On top of that, there are many academic clubs as well as hobby groups to join on campus.

    Greek Life

It isn't the most important thing on this campus, but there is a big chunk of the population that participates in Greek Life. There are many fraternities and sororities that have real goals and actually wish to accomplish things.

    Campus Safety

Campus security has patrolman out 24/7, as well as a text/email alert system for emergency. TigerPatrol also offers to pick up and drop off students from the classes and cars after dark for free.

    Bang for the buck

The cost is pretty understandable considering how much college is now.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused! There is so much freedom and so many things to do but you have to remember the main reason you enrolled into college, to get a degree. If you can keep that in mind every morning you wake up you'll be fine.

I have learned a lot in my first semester. My spanish teacher is very involved and challenges us by speaking in spanish during the majority of the class. My psychology class has taught me so much about different theories and approaches to psychology. All of her information from class is online and her TA makes study guides for all of the tests! My biology lab teacher is easy to listen to and holds your interest. He has good humor and a relaxed way of teaching that makes it easier to stay focused on the lesson. Mrs. Powless, who is my ACAD teacher, as well as my advisor, is a HUGE help. She gives us all kinds of helpful tips for getting through college and staying focused and motivated. She has also taught us very useful test taking tips!

    Am enjoying being here

I love being a student at the University of Memphis. The campus is a nice size, and very pretty. There is a diverse group of students, so you never know who you are going to meet! The teachers are helpful and there is just a good, positive atmosphere about the campus. There are countless places to eat and a computer lab in almost every building!

    Bang for the buck

I paid for my semester out of my own pocket, and do not regret it one bit! I feel like I picked the right college for me. It's close to home and has a very good Psychology program (my major).

    Tips for prospective students

Don't miss orientation like I did! Get involved in organizations on campus, they will really help you in your classes. Don't be afraid to tackle your hard classes first! It will pay off in the long run! Stay on top of your homework while maintaining a healthy social life! Also, don't be afraid to ask questions! That's what the teacher/TA's are there for!

I'm definitely learning a lot. I don't have a single class that I feel is a waste of my time or money-I'm learning in every one of them! But you do have to put forth effort on your part.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here! I don't think I could feel any more at home. I'm always hanging out in the BCM. I love it here and I love that there's always something going on. The campus feels like a little city in and of itself. It's great!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is not expensive at all compared to the other schools in the area. And you get just as much, if not more, out of it!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for class! This isn't high school, and you can't get away with not studying. Speak up in class, too. Most profs love that.

Try to find a study area on campus that works for you. I use the Honor's Hall, cause I can always count on an open computer there. There are computer labs all over campus. Don't just rely on the ones in the UC or the library.

But your books online!!! I can't stress this enough! You can save so much money that way. And if you can't find the one you need online, try to borrow it from someone else. Buying it from the bookstore should be your last option.

Buy food off-campus. There are food places all around campus, and they're a lot cheaper than the ones on campus. Don't get me wrong. Most of the food on campus is great, but generally not affordable for the average broke college student. Also, don't use your dining dollars if you don't have to, because you can get the unused money back at the end of the semester.

Lastly, get involved and make the most of everything the U of M has to offer. It really is a great school!

Great for these types of students

Everyone! Non-traditionals and traditionals., people of all ages, those who can't afford to pay a lot of tuition, but still want to go a great college, honor's students, those interested in greek life, religious people, those interested in going to an engaging, fun college, everyone!

I am an Engineering Techniology major with a minor in music, so I can attest to the qualified teachers in both departments! What is most wonderful in the Engineering bui;ding is that all of the teachers are American or speak English very well. This makes it very easy to understand them. i also love that they are very professional and organized, and expect the students to be, as well. It prepares students for the world of professionalism.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is amazing. There are buildings for every department and the school is working on improving it's organization and curb-appeal. Recently a new parking lot was added, and though it has less parking spaces, there are plans for many more, as well as new/nicer buildings, finished by approx. 2016. There is a four-story library that has a bagel shop, so students and faculty may munch and read. There is ample seating area with some of the most comfortable chairs on campus. There are many places to eat, including healthy choices such as Subway and Chik-Fil-A. As well as these amazing things, however, are the excellent academic programs. There are qualified teachers in every department, and the undergraduate catalog includes a vast variety of majors, minors, and concentrations. What is particularly unique about the university is the wonderful music program, which is very extensive and not found in many schools.

    Will learn a lot

My journey with the University of Memphis began in July 2011 and has not failed yet. I went to Orientation and I grew to love it. I learned about the educational programs, but most of all I learned respect and humbleness.

    Will enjoy being here

    Eager!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is paid for my first and second semester. It is very great.

    Tips for prospective students

Come with an open mind and once you get to the University of Memphis you will not want to leave.

Life on campus is awesome. The dorm rooms are great. I recommend South Hall for guys. Though it is very costly, it is a great dorm.

The University of Memphis is a Diverse and Complex place of learning. Therefore, I would rate the University great standings because of the teaching and knowledge we gain from the teaching as students. University of Memphis is a great school to be at and has great potential as a whole.

    Tips for prospective students

    Tips:
    1. Go to class
    2. Study hard
    3.Don't overwhelm yourself
    4. Don't stress
    5.Get sleep

    Academic Rigor

The classes are mainly fairly easy. The class can be what you make them. Either you can go to class learn, get help in areas you not sure with and have fun trying or miss class and miss out on information. It is your education and your money that can either be wasted or put foward for success.

    Dorm Life

I stay at the Richardson Towers at the University of Memphis and the experience is real cool. Staying on campus gives you the opportunity to meet new people and live life away from your own house for a while. The dorms are pretty calming at times and just lets you be your own man or women.

    Food and Dining

The campus food is pretty good. Its not at all like a home cooked meal, but it can hit the spot when mom isn't around. There are variety of foods to choose from, and i try not to get caught up in eating to much junk, just because I know its there.

    What to do for fun

For fun at the University of Memphis we have a Recreation Center, where most students go after a hard days work and after studying for a bit. It allows us students to get active and be ourselves, by working out, playing sports, or just having fun hanging out.

    Bang for the buck

I think being at University of Memphis is worth my time and money because there is so much here for me. Teachers spend a great deal of time helping me in areas i don't feel to comfortable with. Also it allows me to be myself and enjoy campus life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual place I would name is Brister Hall. Why? Because its like no one ever goes there. Its like the hall is just there, as if it where built way back then and just haven't been torn down just yet. Other then Brister Hall there are no other places i think are unusual.

Great for these types of students

For students who prefer to chill with friends and hang out, downstairs of the University Center is for those students. For students, who want study time and get away fro a lot of commotion the library, tech hub, or even outside by water fountain is for those students. Also if your a student who likes card games, upstairs by the tech hub is the place to be for those types of students.

    Clubs and Activities

The activities the campus promotes are fun and exciting. We have had carnivals, yard shows, etc. All events where cool and got people to come together and also meet new people as well

    Greek Life

As a University of Memphis student, me wanting to go Greek is a pretty good experience. I enjoy watching yard show, step shows, probates, etc. It really gives me a chance to look at the appearance of the fraternity i want to join.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is top flight, alert, and aware, because the campus policemen are always there and always riding around looking for wrong doing. Also me staying on campus, we have had several fire drills in the dorm. This action shows that they are not just here to help us, but also care about our safety as well

A reliable university that has a good set of professors. It also offers plenty of fun activities for a medium sized metropolitan campus. It is rather safe and fun place to be.

    Academic Rigor

The engineering department is spectacular while there are two astoundingly difficult teachers in the math department. Overall a great educational experience that doesn't have a snotty upstart attitude.

    Dorm Life

Lot's of rules and depending on the dorm the elevators are sometimes broken but plans for a new dorm building to replace the old Richardson towers are in place to be implemented in the next few years.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of places to eat on campus. But avoid the cafeteria if you don't have a meal plan.

    What to do for fun

Plenty of SAC sponsored activities including movies, plays, and fairs.

    Bang for the buck

While still expensive, it's still a great education at pretty reasonable price.

    Campus Safety

Never any serious incidents going on the campus police are always around and take their jobs very seriously.

I really like this school. Both the students and staff are friendly. Plus the campus is very pretty .

    Tips for prospective students

If you are new to the school it is very helpful to have a map and find out where your classes are before your first day of class.

    Academic Rigor

For the most part, I don't think they are too rigorous.

    Dorm Life

I stayed in Rawls hall on the forth floor and loved it there. I had a private room. My resident adviser was very nice and friendly.

    Food and Dining

The food was great. I ate like a pig on a daily basis.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest students to join an organization because there are so many people that you would want to know. DON'T be a loner!

    Academic Rigor

Although my academic rigor is not suitable, the professors here make sure you enjoy the class and make sure you have the opportunities to ask questions.

    Dorm Life

I love living on campus although I live 20 minutes away from home. I am in several student organizations so it's time consuming and a better way to get to know people on campus.

    Food and Dining

There are some good food places to eat on campus but everyone who has a meal plan isn't happy with what is served to the students.

    Greek Life

I'm in the national honorary band sorority called Tau Beta Sigma, it is a great organization because we engage in other activities and are involved with other Greeks.

The University of Memphis is a great school. Depending on the classes you sign up for they are very helpful. The professors actually don't check for attendance because most of the work is on the syllabus or on a power point that they email to you.

    Tips for prospective students

You have to be on top of your work. The professor may seem like he or she is very nice but in the end they do not play about grades. They will not make you do your work because in their eyes you are grown and you do whatever you want to do because you have an option to do so.

    Academic Rigor

The academics here will be exactly what you are looking for.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life all depends on where you live. I live in Rawls Hall, it is an all girl dorm with no drama and it is very quiet so you can get your work done on time. The girls here are respectable and the bathrooms are always clean, by the way we have a community style bathroom.

    Food and Dining

Our food and dining here is amazing. The known place we all go to is the U.C (union center). In that building they have, Burger King, Taco Bell, A pizza place, Chinese place, sushi, a salad bar, and a actual sit down restaurant . The other eating area is called the Tiger den which consist of Chick-Fil-A, Subway, and a cafe.

    What to do for fun

We are placed in what is known as Mid-Town so there are a lot of fun things around here to do, both on and off campus.

the campus is not too big and you quickly become familiar where everything is. most of the teachers are helpful and willing to work with you if you have a problem as long as you will put in the effort. there are many ways to get involved on campus and most of the time there is an event or something going on.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you are totally satisfied with your schedule. do not let your advisor talk you out of your planned schedule (unless it's for a good reason... like you can't take a class because you aren't majoring in that area or you don't have the right pre-reqs for a class). my advisor did that my first semester and i am now taking 19 hours this semester to make up for the loss.

    Academic Rigor

depending on your major the more or less academically challenging it will be. a friend of mine this semester has almost no out of class work and his classes are fairly easy, however i am a nursing major and have so much work i do not have much time to do many other things other than attending class and doing out of class assignments.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a place located on campus called the university center. It is where all of the students hang out, eat, and socialize. There is also a large fountain in the middle of campus that is very beautiful. The only unusual thing that one may find is Wilder Tower which a 12 story tower in which all student admission and recruitment business is conducted.

Great for these types of students

    Socially adept, goal-oriented, success seeking

    Clubs and Activities

Student government association, science club, chemical society, fraternities, sororities, musical performances and groups, religious groups and societies.

    Greek Life

I am not a member of any organization but the people who are seem to enjoy the life.

    Campus Safety

The university has it's own police force which works in tandem with the city of Memphis police force, which even has a precinct on campus. Also there is a security patrol and parking security.
