Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Each professor is different; it really depends on which class(es) you take. If you took a lecture hall class (100-200 students) at 8 am in the morning, and you fall asleep, your teacher would remember you for that. Unless you go to their office to chat, it will be hard for them to know which kind of person you are.
Unlike high school where you can have the same class every day, College gives you the luxury of having a class 2-4 times per week. Some classes require me to read & analyze articles, others look for a 6-8 page paper. For those that do neither, the classes require a total of three exams and a final exam that help/hurt your grade if you don’t study.
I’m a little biased but I really like classes in the Liberal Arts field. I’m undeclared but trying to get into Sociology and Justice Studies. If I graduate with both, I can still go into Law School. My previous major, Nursing, did not give me the same opportunity, but I guess your major reflects what you’re passionate about. If you’re good at Art, Science, History, Technology, or care about animals, you have the chance to major in that field and turn it into a career.Am enjoying being here One the first night that freshmen come to school, there’s an event called “WildActs.” It’s an improv show that focuses on many aspects of college life. There’s a lot of school spirit during Basketball and football games. Also, there’s Jukebox, which brings students to learn about extracurricular activities, raffles, and IHOP gives out free pancakes, and you get a lot of free stuff. Also, there’s an annual parade where everyone, including the school’s fraternities and sororities make floats for prizes.
There are endless possibilities-all you have to do is get involved. Every time you go to the MUB, they have events open to the public that are informative. Also they are big concerts near the end of the semester. I was told last year that there was a Snoop Dogg concert, and that this year Lupe Fiasco concert is going to be sold out. Sometimes, they also invite people to give lectures-I met Angela Davis during the Martin Luther King Celebration in January.Bang for the buck Varies based on whether you live out-of-state. UNH has a regional New England Program which cuts your tuition if you're majoring in something not available in your home state.
Tips for prospective students I chose UNH because I really felt like I belonged on the campus. I visited at the end of my junior year, and it really stood out from the other schools that I applied to. Plus, Holloway Commons (HoCo) serves the best food, and is currently one of the colleges with the best food. Diverse wise, it was a little below expectations, but that was why I attended the CONNECT program, which was for students of color. I got to move into school a week early, and met most of my best friends. If I hadn’t gone here, my life would have been so much different than what I expected.
Great for these types of students Students who want to focus on a career in research. UNH has a little of everything.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am definitely learning a lot here. It may be hard at times because every professor is so different, but once you get to know your professor and once they get to know you they will do whatever it takes to help you pass their class. There are also so many opportunities to get academic help on campus that you can use.
Am enjoying being here I love being on campus, there are so many nice people. I definitely recommend going to as many campus activities as possible to meet new people and have different experiences. You will never be bored.
Bang for the buck You will get your bang for your buck if you use all of the resources on campus for your learning experience. Also there are so many fun thing to do on campus covered by your activity fee, and there is always a sporting event to go to.
Tips for prospective students Go to study groups and use the library and Center for Academic Resources in order to help manage your class assignments. Go to as may events as possible. And have Fun!
Great for these types of students Who love a tight knit community, great food, and learning.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a student who applied to many colleges, most of which were tier 4 or Ivy league, I never expected to end-up at UNH. I thought that it wouldn't be challenging enough for me, or wasn't good enough. Boy, was I WRONG! UNH offers a multitude of classes ranging from Dairy to Astrology. There are so many options, and so many great professors whom are willing to help you out in any way possible.
Am enjoying being here I have met so many friends here at UNH. Almost everyone you meet is open and friendly, willing to be your friend. As UNH is a intermediate-sized school, it's small enough to feel more rural and homey, but large enough so that you never see all the same people just in one day.
Bang for the buck UNH is a bit more pricey than other state schools (especially out-of-state tuition), but I believe is worth the money. They offer fairly decent scholarships and financial aid to help lessen the costs.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students would be to branch out! Don't be afraid to sit with some random people at dinner and strike up a conversation. Leave your door open in your dorm room, join a club! It's the best way to make friends.
Great for these types of students Great for students who live in or near New Hampshire who are looking for a college that offers variety (if you don't know what you want to study just yet) and is large enough to meet countless friends!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the classes at the University of New Hampshire are unique. Some are big, some are small, and each professor has a different teaching style. There is a lot of variety, but one thing remains the same: each student is treated well, and is given the chance to absorb an incredible amount of knowledge. First semester, I took classes ranging from junior level french, to a general education requirement like Ecology and Values. Either way, I was exposed to different aspects of each subject that I didn't expect, and I was bettered by that. My Psychology class had 250 students, whereas my French class had 10. Class size depends on the subject, and before coming to UNH I thought class size was extremely important. However, the professors at the university are committed to making you feel as though you are performing your best and they are committed to teaching their students to the best of their abilities. Even in my class of 250, I can confidently say that each student felt as though they were important. Not only am I learning a lot, I enjoy going to class every day and cannot wait for next semester to begin.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying attending UNH. There are so many clubs and organizations to get involved in, ranging from the College Democrats, to the Organic Gardening Club, to Greek Life, to Fencing. There is truly a niche for everyone, and there is always something going on. Aside from academics, concerts and guests are brought to UNH to perform. In December, the comedian Bo Burnham came to the Whittemore Center. The dorms are above average and although campus incidents occur, as is inevitable with a school the size of UNH, I feel safe on campus. There is a free bus for students which travels to surrounding towns such as Portsmouth, Dover and Newmarket, and the nearby train station travels throughout the northeast (Boston, Portland, etc.) Even though UNH is situated in Durham, New Hampshire, I have never felt isolated whatsoever. I enjoy the classes, I enjoy the community, and I enjoy the social aspect of UNH.
Bang for the buck The classes at UNH are challenging and worthwhile. I know few students who regularly skip class, because classes truly are enjoyable at UNH. The level of difficulty of classes, the number of clubs and organizations and the environment at UNH makes it truly worth the money.
Tips for prospective students As for prospective students, I would recommend taking a tour at UNH. The beauty of the campus is just icing on the cake, but it's worth seeing. Don't be afraid to ask about what kind of clubs and organizations are available, and once you attend UNH, don't be afraid to join them. Making friends is easy if you get involved, and it's completely worth your time.
Great for these types of students Honestly, UNH is great for all types of students, no matter how cliche that sounds. There are dorms at UNH which cater to particular types of students and allow them to easily find their niche. For example, there are honors dorms, art dorms, chem-free dorms, and dorms for international students. I know bio-med majors, classics majors, art majors and theatre majors who are all extremely happy with UNH.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are amazing and there is so much to choose from and UNH really tries to cater the classes so that individuals are actually interested in the classes they are attending and want to be there. For example, I'm a HUGE horse person but not a big history buff and I discovered that UNH offered a class that studied the use of the horse in history that I could take for the history requirement. You can even find work study jobs that cater to your major as well (as a pre-vet major I work in the NH State Diagnostic Lab on campus with veterinarians and get to observe interactive necropsies (animal autopsies) where the vets ask for your ideas and opinions and it's ok to say I don't know because they'll fill you in.
Am enjoying being here At first UNH was intimidating for me and wasn't even in my top 5 collages and yet their curriculum was just as good as all the other schools that I was looking at. The nicest thing is that UNH is small enough that you can get to where you need to be in a timely fashion and yet still big enough that you find your own niche in the society. There is always something going on at UNH, you just have to find it, the gym is open to students, along with the indoor pool and you can even ice skate at the Whittemore Center! It's such an exciting campus and before finals there is stress relief with massages (aqua and hand), an oxygen bar, and other fun things to take your mind off finals for a few hours.
Bang for the buck All I have to say is pic your classes based on the prof. and make use of ratemyprofessor.com, classes are the hardest when you have a professor you can't stand.
Tips for prospective students Trust your instincts and don't be afraid to ask for help. Make use of CFAR, and other academic resources that are free. Don't wait until the last two weeks of classes to try and salvage your grade, get help the second you start struggling.
Great for these types of students UNH has a bunch of smaller communities inside one campus so it's great for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences they have a lot to offer no matter what your major or even if you are undecided. the campus has a lot of diversity and you can expect to meet a lot of different people. the campus is large and set in a quiet little town which is very proud to have the university.
Tips for prospective students the campus is large so expect a lot of walking or bring a bike. there are many opportunities available so be sure to take advantage of them since most are free to students. i hope you like sports since this is a big sports school; go wildcats!
Academic Rigor depending on your major this may vary. most general studies courses are moderately easy.
Dorm Life dorm life is a touchy subject. some people are lucky and get placed with a roommate that is a perfect fit, others, not so much. that aside, dorm life is eventful and they always have something going on. if you want to meet people, i recommend living in a smaller dorm since the larger dorms are harder to meet people.
Food and Dining unh has one of the top food services in the country and services all locally gown product. there are three main dining hall on campus and depending where your classes are or where you live; that will decide where you eat the most. each is different and some care different options throughout the day.
What to do for fun there are many activities to do ranging from clubs, sports teams, concerts, etc. there is never a day there isn't something to do.
Clubs and Activities many organizations to choose from.
Greek Life greek life is very popular here.
Campus Safety located around campus is blue light which is an emergency assistants if something is to occur. the campus police are always on the top of their game and you can also have alerts sent to your phone when instances occur. over all though, this is a very safe school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot After completing my first year at UNH, I have learned so much both academically and mentally. All my professors have offered their time to help you succeed in the class. There are a number of resources that are always available too, like the writing and math centers.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely loved my first year at UNH. There is always something to do outside of your classes. I participated in a couple intramural teams, and joined several clubs. UNH offers such a variety of activities that there's something for everyone. I never had time to be homesick or bored.
Bang for the buck Even though I am paying out-of-state tuition, I never felt like I was wasting my money. If you take advantage of all the courses and activities UNH offers, it's worth it. Every college is expensive, but the quality of UNH exceeds many others.
Tips for prospective students Sitting in the front in large lectures and meeting with your professors for extra help regularly will definitely help you succeed academically. This may also seem repetitive, but get involved with something on campus. It's a great way to meet friends with similar interests, since it is a relatively big school. I've never heard anything negative about UNH; it's a great university with many options and opportunities.
Great for these types of students I think UNH is great for everyone. There's such a diverse group of people that attend this university, that it's clear everyone can succeed. Students who like smaller schools can live in a small dorm or join a smaller club, or students who prefer the city can easily hop a bus or train to Portland, Portsmouth or Boston. Anyone can live happily at UNH.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are so many options offered to undergraduate students and every professor I have worked with has been amazing. I feel excited about what I am learning even when it has nothing to do with my major.
Am enjoying being here I feel at home even though I'm an hour and a half away from my house. Always something to do or get involved in. If I was to pick one word to describe UNH it would be Involved; always involved with the students, the surrounding community, and the country (whether through politics, environmental concerns, etc.).
Bang for the buck Whatever area of study you are interested in, there is a class for it. Coming from a small high school I didn't have many options but now that I am on campus I want to study everything. Housing is worth every penny. Being from the city I wanted a campus with student housing and this campus is beautiful. There is always something to do on or around campus and many opportunities to get involved with other students. UNH is always looking for ways to give back to its students and it does a great job in organizations, facilities, the gym, activities in the Memorial Union Building.
Tips for prospective students Explore.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot How much you learn in a class is based on the teaching style and how the students themselves learn. I've had professors that I loved where I learned very little, and classes where I didn't like the professor but learned a lot. Most of the professors seem really interested in helping their students thrive, but some do seem to think that teaching an intro level class is beneath their intelligence. But overall I think I'm learning what I need to to succeed.
Am enjoying being here I spend most weekends working and not attending events, so I feel like I'm missing out on some of the college experience. But UNH has all kinds of events for all kinds of people. From concerts and movies in the student union to dances and comedians. The hockey games are huge events as are the bingo nights. I've enjoyed every event I've attended and hope to attend more in the future.
Bang for the buck UNH is more expensive than many state schools, but it's worth it. The career and internship fairs provide opportunities to network and look for a job or internship, although the fairs tend to focus on business majors. The school is a research school and has various projects going on at all times, especially in the alternative energy fields. The school has great opportunities on campus to earn money too, so that helps make up for the higher cost of attendance.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences unh is a massive school with as many opportunities; i have met many different people with all sorts of different majors and from all over the country, and we have become friends. unh offers the opportunity to study whatever area interests you most in a hands-on way using advanced laboratories and attending classes with professors known for their work in that area. unh also offs plenty of extra-curricular activities ranging from clubs to sports to out-door movies and beyond, and even rewards its students for attending such events - overall, it is a fantastic school that i would recommend to anyone!
Tips for prospective students check out the campus - it's always a good idea to check out the campus of the schools you are interested in. unh is located in its on little town and offers both bus transportation around campus and to neighboring towns and train transportation to towns and cities across the state and into different stats as well (amtrak). it also offers lots of sidewalks - be sure to weear good walking shoes that won't kill your feet! if you don't like big schools, this may not be the place for you.
take it easy - no matter which college you go to, you always want to try to make your first semester as easy as possible so that you have time to adjust to college life and to the different type of classes and such without sacrificing your grades or gpa.
get to know people: it's always a good idea to say hi to people and become friends with those around you, whether they be in your dorm or in your classes. you'll find your time at school much more enjoyable then, and will even grow to like your classes more as many people will tend to do homework or form study groups with their friends. it helps everyone learn better and enjoy their classes, and i'm almost certain you'll love it too!
above all - have fun! college is not a death sentence, so don't look at it like one. yes, you are there to learn but that doesn't mean you can't interact with people and attend events outside of classes! it doesn't matter which college you go to - if you don't have fun or at least enjoy it, you won't have a good time. and you never want to be in that situation!Academic Rigor some classes are somewhat easy, while others can be quite a challenge! likewise, some classes require very little time out of the classroom (doing homework, labs, studying, etc...) while others require lots! it all depends on your skills and interests and the type of classes you take. for example, lab classes or writing intensive classes tend to be more time-consuming than just lectures.
Dorm Life i cannot rate this either way as i am a commuter student, but most of my friends who dorm love it! a few complain about fire alarms going off at 2 or 3am (they live in stoke hall), but they love it for the most part and tell me i'm crazy for not dorming. i have been in a dorm building once for a honors program meeting, and i can say that the lounges/common areas are very impressive! i was in hubbard hall, and the lounge/common area i was in had about half a dozen couches, a piano, a pool table, and various board games. it also had christmas decorations (it was the end of november), and many posters and just looked very cheery and inviting in general! i kind of wish we had meetings there more often!
Food and Dining unh is known for its food, and there's good reason for that - it's delicious! there are 3 or 4 different dining halls, and i swear most of the people i know spend every free moment of the day eating! i was working with a group of friends on physics homework the other day, and they decided to take a break and eat even though they had only had lunch 2 hours ago! it was crazy! my favorite dining hall is holloway commons (hoco), where there are 7 or 8 different types of buffet tables (salads, dessert, sushi, pizza, subs, etc..) and you can go around as many times as you like and eat as much as you like - it's a buffet! there are also little cafeteria and coffee shops sprinkled around campus and in academic buildings, so you are never far from food or drink! we even built a dunkin donuts on campus within the last few months - how convenient is that?
What to do for fun you can attend sports games, enjoy the olympic size swimming pool or open skate at the whittemore center, shop downtown, travel to portsmouth or dover, attend concerts, hang out with friends... the list goes on and on! my favorite thing to do is attend the what's on wednesday programs put on by the mub. every wednesday, they get people to come in and either do cool crafts with us (like burn our names in wood, personalize dog-tags, make business-card holders, etc...) or put on a concert - and it's absolutely free (its paid for by your entertainment/mub fee, which is part of your tuition)! my favorite event last year was when jd eicher (of a band called jd eicher and the goodnights from pennsylvania/ohio) performed for us live - that guy is amazing! and he's coming back this semester too! i can't wait!
Bang for the buck i feel like it breaks about even, although many people tell me that they get much more for what they pay. i know that, compared to other colleges, unh does give you much more for your money, but i tend to feel like it would be better if they charged you less. then again, who doesn't feel that way?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus every fall semester, unh holds a u-day, or university day. during this event, which lasts for a few hours, main street is closed, and rock walls and other such recreational items are placed all along it for student entertainment. a massive bbq is also held, and hundreds of tables representing almost every club, activity, team, or business/association are set up on thompson hall and hundreds of items are given out by the before-mentioned people for free! from t-shirts to totes to sunglasses, candy, frisbees, pens, stuffed animals, food, and beyond, there are lots of items available free of charge and it is truly an enjoyable event that no one wants to miss!
Great for these types of students anyone and everyone - i've met all sorts of students from many different backgrounds and states as well as countries around the world! it amazes me that so many different people would come to nh, although i can perfectly understand why they would want to come to unh! it is very scenic, has lots of activities, and lots of different people. if you like any of the above, then unh is the place for you!
Clubs and Activities there are hundreds if not thousands of clubs and activities, ranging from yoga to outings to acting and beyond! needless to say, i cannot even begin to describe them all here!
Campus Safety there are emergency posts all around campus where, if ever there was an emergency, you could click the button and the police will come immediately. you'll also make a really bright blue light on the top start flashing, which also draws attention. there have, however, been incidents of crimes but they are not very plentiful and generally occur in places where students are not allowed to be (like in the woods behind the health center or near the railroad tracks). if such a crime does occur, the police will text and/or email you so you'll always know what's going on.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences unh is a beautiful school, with a wide range of people, many of whom (both students and staff) are friendly and helpful. i have found the teachers to be open and engaging. there are so many opportunities there, but it is up to you to find them and go for them!
Tips for prospective students for any college, you must be self-motivated - set your own schedule, keep track of important deadlines and dates, and go out and meet people. but at unh, it is especially important to do so because it is a fair-sized public university - you have an academic advisor, but they are not going to hold your hand through every little problem or tell you what to do. when you need help, ask for it - your advisor is happy to help when you ask, there is a career center, and another center that helps with study habits, time management, etc. (both right on campus!), not to mention your ras, fellow students, and your teachers. in addition, i would say try to balance work and play - meet people, but get your homework done. go out and get involved! volunteer, find out about opportunities for research and study abroad, join a club, join an intramural sports team. and try to eat and sleep well - it makes everything so much easier.
Academic Rigor i have found my classes to be very manageable. yes, in college you spend less time in class and more time on homework, but it isn't that difficult - there is always someone to help you if you need it, and it's really just a matter of putting in the time. studying for tests, learning the concepts, and going to ask for help when you don't understand are all key.
Dorm Life i live in engelhardt, the drug-free dorm, and love it! the people are all so friendly and inclusive, the dorm is quiet enough to study in, and it's very centrally located. i have heard some scary stories about the freshman dorms, stoke, williamson, and christenson - they seem to be loud and i think all the residents get stuck with bills for damages from rowdy people.
Food and Dining unh has 3 dining halls, and a wide range of options for food, from soup and sandwiches to hot entrees, pizza, salad, fruit, desserts, and breakfast foods. they even have vegetarian and gluten-free options, and hard serve ice cream on the weekends! yes, it still doesn't compare to home cooking, but it's one of the best dining halls i've heard of, and there's something for even the pickiest eater.
What to do for fun take the free unh wildcat transit bus to portsmouth (only about 20 minutes away), a really interesting coastal town with great restaurants and stores for shopping, as well as paths to walk on. or take the bus to the mall (about 20 minutes). first thursday of the month there are contra dances in dover town hall (10 minutes away). durham has a cute little downtown where you can go get pizza or coffee. the mub (memorial union building) on campus shows not-yet-released movies on the weekends, and hosts many events, from amazing a-capella shows, to discussions, workshops, and (near finals) stress-relief events. unh has faculty and student concerts quite frequently (and actual concerts every once in a while), as well as its own art museum. and you can always hang out with friends in the dorm - watch movies, eat snacks, bake (if your dorm or one nearby has a kitchen).
Bang for the buck pretty reasonable for what college costs these days, especially if you are in state. and it is a quality education, with so many things made available to you. there is a math help center, writing help center, and so many more. there are multiple libraries (the main one and branch ones for the sciences). there are free social events. and you meet so many great people!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a food van that comes late at night that is said to have to best cheesy fries. everyone raves about the dairy bar ice cream shop in the summer. we have college woods - a huge expanse of trails on one edge of campus. and we have an ice rink that has free skate hours.
Great for these types of students anyone can find a place at unh - the introvert, the social butterfly, the nerd, the scientist, the musician, etc. - and everyone can find friends with similar interests. and i have found people to be very accepting.
Clubs and Activities there is an organization for any interest - salsa dancing, the environment, religion, fitness, healthy eating, engineering, and so much more! check the unh website for a list of clubs and activities.
Greek Life those i know who are members of sororities or fraternities seem to really enjoy the sense of community and the socials that greek life offers them. but those same people are still part of the university at large, and still make many friends outside their greek house.
Campus Safety there are campus police that patrol unh and make their presence felt, as well as emergency aid posts all around campus if you need to sound an alarm. there is a fire department right on campus and they do fire safety checks. and the campus is pretty safe, even after dark - just use common sense and walk with a friend if possible, just to be safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Great school, happy people and lots of parties!
Tips for prospective students Take college seriously, even though it's a party school and there IS a party every night, that doesn't mean you have to go to a party every night. Don't take classes with people you already know, it's fun, but if you spend time talking to your friends you'll miss out on the lecture and annoy people around you!
Academic Rigor I gave this three stars because the rigor is completely up to you. If you choose to take harder honors classes it will be much harder than if you take regular level classes. The gen eds are all pretty easy, but as soon as you get further into your major that changes.
Dorm Life The dorms are mostly pretty nice, although there are a few buildings that students definitely try to avoid with housing. Dorm life is what you make it, if you want to participate, you're always welcome and if you would rather be left alone your privacy is respected. The RAs work very hard to make everyone feel comfortable and create a welcoming environment with biweekly socials and poster boards.
Food and Dining Our food is ranked something like 18th in the nation for colleges, it's awesome. There is a special section for vegans and there are plenty of options for everyone.
What to do for fun There are TONS of activities paid for by your Student Activity fee, so while there are always parties, there are plenty of alternatives in the MUB to check out!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of New Hampshire
Tips for prospective students Know what you want as a student. Be an advocate for yourself and be ready to directly go after what you want. At a large university it is vital that you are independent and motivated.
Academic Rigor Given the size of the school, freshmen are typically in very large classes. This can be great for some, but for most students the large classes put them at a disadvantage because they are not given a one-on-one relationship with their teachers.
Dorm Life Underclassmen dorms are what you expect for a college living situation. They are typically two-person rooms with just enough space for all of your belongings. Suite-style dorms are really nice, though, with a private bathroom and at least four people to a room.
Food and Dining The food at UNH is amazing! Compared to most institutions, this food is fresh, gourmet, and always changing. From sushi, burgers, pizza, fresh salad bar, and ice cream sundaes every weekend, you can always find something that is appealing and healthy.
What to do for fun There are buses constantly traveling to Portsmouh and Newmarket, so you can go to the movies, mall, or the quaint shops. Most students, however, stay on campus and find activities to do with their friends. There are always events being held by the student organizations, including showings of movies, concerts, and bingo!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am planning to apply to the engineering school at UNH. It is top ranked and has lots of good facilities that will allow me to become knowledgeable about the engineering profession.
Will enjoy being here They have the first 3D movie theater in the United States at a college. they always have events going on whether it is school wide, your dorm, or the floor you live on. They also have discounted passes to three major ski mountains, which I will probably get.
Bang for the buck There is a lot of great things to do around campus, they have a five level library that even has its own movie rental place on the second floor. It has great athletic facilities and the food is like a buffet and you only have to pay one per meal.
Tips for prospective students The tips i have from when i visited were that it is better to have a high GPA and a 1900 on the SATs to get the best scholarships. The lowest score for a scholarship is 1780.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNH has a lot of opportunities. There is a major for everyone. I am a psychology major with minors in business and social work. I am involved with 5 clubs, an officer in one. There library is a great place to study. It's a tough school, but you get what you pay for. I love it.
Am enjoying being here UNH has been the best choice for me. It offers so much. I have made so many friends. Between intermural sports, clubs, going to the health club, I've made a lot of friends. Housing and academics are pretty close together for such a large school. It is not a school that is intimidating due to it's size. It has something to offer for everyone. I just love it here.
Bang for the buck Considering it is a state school, it's the best one in NH. It is rated one of the top business schools nationally, as well as one of the top schools, in general, nationally. It offers so many majors that it is the best choice for the money from any school. You can't beat it.
Tips for prospective students Come down for a visit. You'll fall in love with it. It has a great little campus town - plenty to do no matter what your interests are. The Whitimore Center not only host school athletic events that you can attend for free, it also is a venue for concerts, etc and the price is right.
Great for these types of students UNH is a great school for any student. Whether you are a liberal arts major or want to be a doctor or a veterinarian, this is the place for you. Engineering, liberal arts, psychology, marine biology, zoology, chemistry, physics, equine studies, business, nutrition, journalism, etc. UNH has something for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In order to fulfill my general education requirements - known as the Discovery Program at UNH - I am taking various courses, such as Introduction to Forensics, News Writing, Arabic, and Astronomy. Having requirements like these do make well-rounded students; however, I am an English major, not an Astronomy major. Some of these classes I could do without.
This is not the fault of the teachers though. Many of them strive to make enough office hours and are dedicated to helping their students succeed.Am enjoying being here There are many clubs/sports available to students. If there's not one available, you can create one. Being able to participate in so many activities with friends - sometimes on a daily basis - is part of the reason I love UNH.
Bang for the buck Despite having an amazing education, the recent 12% tuition hike will probably prevent some students from attending.
Tips for prospective students Getting involved in any sort of club/sport is a great way to make friends and have fun doing things you actually want to do.
Also, UNH tries to look at your entire high school career, not just your senior year, so try not to slack off only to realize last minute that your GPA isn't that great.Great for these types of students Great for those who want to live in a mix of urban and rural.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Degree programs are very well balanced. Science labs try to balance lab work with field work. Forestry classes are often out in the woods and I see the Surveying class outside all of the time. I am often impressed with the work I am doing at the end of my semesters compared to my work in the beginning. After a year in the planning program I already feel like a planner and understand concepts when listening to seasoned planners. I know that when I am done at UNH I will be prepared for the working world. Many classes are offered at several different time periods so you have room to try different classes out and move your schedule around. All of my classes offer study group time before tests and all of my teachers have been willing to meet personally to go over work.
Am enjoying being here No matter what you enjoy doing UNH has it. There are sports clubs, music clubs, theater clubs, and a variety of degree based clubs. There are a number of physical activities to take part in from your typical sports to mountain climbing and martial arts. The downtown area and campus offer access to most of your college necessities and if you cant find what you need there are buses that can take you all throughout the seacoast along. Combine that with the train and bike rentals and you can have an adventure everyday if you want. I personally enjoy the miles of trails throughout the wood for running and hiking.
Bang for the buck UNH is one of the more expensive state colleges. On top of tuition there are often random fees tacked onto classes on top of the price of the class. You may see a $10 fee there for Economics and a $30 fee over there for another class. UNH does however offer many resources to students for both academics and day to day activities. One of those includes a free bus service.
Tips for prospective students Try to become part of a UNH facebook group or start picking up a UNH newspaper. There is always a lot going on and you can miss out if you don't keep up on it. Also look into getting your books elsewhere. The bookstore can be expensive unless you rent.
Great for these types of students Great for students studying the environment. UNH has many resources available for students studying on both land and at sea. UNH also has a great business program and a new business building is currently being built. The large number of athletic teams and clubs on campus along with the large athletic facilities make UNH a great place for students interested in physical fitness.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a Dairy management student and am glad to say that I find almost all of my classes to be a lot of fun and very helpful for my future career.
Am enjoying being here There is always something going on on campus. Even for those who don't like to party. I am one of those people who would rather have a nice night in than a wild night out and there is always something for me to do around campus. Like go to a MUB movie which only costs 2 bucks or play pool or ping pong ball in the mub there are also special events that take place through out the year like the Scope concerts or comedian shows that pass through. Campus is very well rounded and there is certainly something here for everyone.
Bang for the buck If you are instate UNH is a lot cheaper then heading somewhere else and its close to home for those who are family orientated like I am. I stay here most of the time but do have the option of going home on the weekends when I need some time away from campus.
Tips for prospective students Take the first week to get used to everything, that means letting the parties wait and sticking too settling in. I promise the parties will be there later and who knows you may find other activities to do.
Always keep an eye out for clubs you may like and remember to get involved. Its what you put in on campus that makes it a memorable experience so remember to get involved.
Also check out Greek life and see if it may be a good fit for you. Despite all the rumors we really aren't that bad, so get to know us for yourself, all stereotypes aside.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have had good experiences so far with most of the professors. I have found that classes with fewer students provide a better learning environment, and all my classes at UNH so far have had less than 30 students. There are plenty of opportunities to receive outside help in classes. Not only is the professor available, but there are free tutors as well. Overall I have learned a sufficient amount in each of the courses I have taken.
Am enjoying being here Even though UNH is situated in a small town, there is still plenty a college student can do. The school holds concerts, and comedians often come. The most recent concert was Akon. Besides the many activities available to UNH students, I find myself having fun just in my dorm. There are a variety of dorms available here, and the one I am in suits me very well. The room is quite big compared to most dorm rooms at other colleges. The school environment is clean and beautiful. The New England setting adds a great atmosphere. I really enjoy attending this college.
Bang for the buck I am receiving little help from my family to pay for my tuition and living expenses. Even though I am out-of-state, I can still afford to come here without too many loans. They offer a great financial aid package compared to other schools in the New England area and a great education with it.
Tips for prospective students The best way to find the college that is right for you is to do your research. In addition, pick the college that you want, not what your parents want because ultimately, you will be the one that has to go there everyday for four years not your parents. I would pay attention to a few key factors when looking for colleges: the cost (however, don't be afraid because there are tons of scholarships that you can apply for), the atmosphere/environment (visit the school, sometimes the vibe the school gives you is all that you need to make that decision), and the class size (the best way to learn is from a professor that has experience in the subject he/she is teaching and when there are fewer students in the class).
Great for these types of students I am a city girl, however; I feel I belong here, even though the town consists of five blocks. I find that the environment here works best for people who enjoy the outdoors or just like sitting oustide looking at all the life around them. I believe college is a time for learning and here you can get the education you need but still have the opportunities to have those fun times.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a ton at UNH, but I can't say it's all academic. Part of the college experience is learning how to interact with people and ways to meet new people. This is at times even more important than some classes. Even as I say this I have learned a lot in my classes. Your freshman year will help you decide what you want to keep studying and pursue, versus what you thought you wanted. The good thing about UNH is that you will probably have some small classes and will be able to talk to your teachers if you want to.
Am enjoying being here As cheesy as it sounds I could be happier at UNH. Durham is more of a college town than I ever could have expected, big enough that you will never be able to meet everyone who you go to school with but small enough that you can feel a camaraderie with students around you. You’re all wildcats and the football and hockey games are amazing (even if your not into sports). . It is close to Boston and Portsmouth, and has an Amtrac station on campus making traveling near or far no fuss; but even though you can basically go anywhere, I have had no desire to leave campus other than a trip or two to the mall since I arrived on campus. I also can’t lie, weekends at UNH are pretty fun. There is always something to do, and the University tries hard to provide entertainment. Even without this entertainment, UNH is known as a party school and this emerges on the weekend, where areas of campus stay awake all night. I doubt i’ll ever leave because I don’t know what I’ll do if I can’t see UNH decked out in blue and white on homecoming weekend.
Bang for the buck I can't lie and say I always wanted to go to UNH. Truth is what impacted my decision to go there was the money. UNH was my in-state safety school and it is a GREAT price for the education. UNH has all the fun you could want as well as a huge selection of classes which will let you try everything you want.
Tips for prospective students Although at the end of senior year I wanted to have another year of high school, if I could have known then that college would be this amazing I wouldn’t have been nervous about moving on. If I could talk to my high school self, I would have told her that it only gets better. I would have told myself that college is a new life with new people and you will become so close to the people you meet at school that even though they were strangers when you first met them they are now family. So don’t be nervous, and don’t be afraid to talk to anyone because everyone is just as nervous as you are. As for finding your way around, it's not as hard as it looks. I promise :)
Great for these types of students Students at University of New Hampshire provide an extreme mix of personalities although from the point of view of an outsider the university does not look extremely diverse. The campus provides a mix of frat boys and sorority girls as well as the typical UNH partyer stereotype. There is also the hippy stereotype as well as stoners and boys on longboards. It is also not uncommon to witness people walking on tightropes tied between two trees in front of the library or girls sunbathing outside of their dorm. This may be one of the reasons to why I enjoy college as much as I do. So really, UNH fits all types of students, and everyone will be able to find a niche even if it takes a little time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I know my professors. I love my classes. The classes are interesting and exciting. This school has a wide range of class types, and is generally underrated.
Am enjoying being here I always thought I would like to go to a smaller college or university, but UNH is a great place. There are communities all around you, you just have to go out and find them. There is a group for ANYTHING you want to do (that's legal). If there isn't one, I would be shocked.
Bang for the buck It's a great place and a good school.
Tips for prospective students This school is a state school, so it's fairly easy to get in. But don't let that fool you. It is an excellent place to learn. Also, if you decide to go, make sure to look closely at the type of community you would like to live in.
Great for these types of students I can't believe that anyone would feel unwelcome here.

Categories Rating Comments Am enjoying being here I love UNH. The classes are great, the teaching staff is, for the most part, very helpful and the campus is beautiful. Weekends are never boring, you will always be able to find something to do. The Whittemore center is awesome for the hockey games and broom ball* and the Rec Center is great for working out, playing basketball soccer, volleyball and racquetball, dance/workout classes and any other physical training/fun. There are many student organizations/clubs on campus, so there is something for everyone! The MUB (memorial Union Building) is also great for getting involved with clubs, work, or even just meeting people. There are events going on every single day of the week, and Movies play in the theaters every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. After three semesters here at UNH, my time has been very fun, academically and socially.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, UNH is expensive, but I believe that it is definitely worth the price, I love it here!
Tips for prospective students For prospective Engineering Students: Bring your A-Game because the classes are very interesting, but very challenging. There is a lot of useful and interesting material involved, but to make it all work out for you, you must stay on top of everything and have very good time management.
Get involved! The university offers many clubs and student organizations and intramural sports, take advantage of them and make your years at UNH worth every penny.Great for these types of students Academics: UNH is a great place for all types of students. From Business to Liberal Arts and Physical Sciences/Engineering to Life Sciences, UNH has it all.
Extra: Durham is a nice little town/city. Main Street has everything you need from restaurants/bars and pharmacies to Barbers and tanning. Everybody seems to fit in somewhere.
**Durham is also very close to the sea coast. Portsmouth NH is a great city that is right on the ocean that has much involvement for studentsLogin to rate or flag the reviews
