Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students It's predominantly an arts school with the big emphasis on music, but given its reputation, that should be no shock to anyone. That doesn't mean that the other programs are ignored. Most of the teachers are good, but before you enroll, check the teachers out on ratemyprofessor.com because just like every other school out there, we have our share of bad professors.
It has a good atmosphere with tons of activities if you know where to look for them - most activities are advertised by the school email and flyers around campus. There plenty of intramural and club sports for everyone, and all students have free admission into the gym and all sporting events. If you just want to hang out with people the Student Union and Willis Library are the places to be, especially later in the afternoon.
The food isn't half bad. Bruce is the most convenient cafeteria, and its food is decent. Mean Greens at Maple Hall is the best food on campus - although I've heard that Victory Hall has some good food as well. As far as dorms go, they're not half bad, although probably not worth how much you pay for them unless you pay extra to live at Traditions or Sante Fe or get accepted into the Honors College and can live in Honors Hall. Parking on campus is very difficult, but there is always a space open if you're willing to walk a little.Great for these types of students Art and Music students are everywhere, and with good reason considering the focus on those programs. Commuters are in great supply. A lot of the students are from the area, so most go home on the weekends but that doesn't mean campus in dead if you know where to look. Any student who doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a good education belongs at this school - with the already low price and the abundance of scholarships, loans, and grants, it's perfect. It's also a very diverse school with many opinions and people from all around.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Weird/art kids tend to gravitate towards Bruce Hall their first year (myself included). Most residence halls have a distinctive community feel. Mean Greens has the best food on campus with the paninis being the best.
Great for these types of students North Texas has the allure of having a great art/music school with the diversity (and affordability!) you would expect from a state school. Denton is a great city as well with many parks and festivals to partake in. The public transportation is fairly decent as well.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Overall, the University of North Texas is a very accredited institution. However, every now and then you will find a blow off class or professor that might be alot easier/harder than others at the same level.
Am enjoying being here The location of this campus, Denton, can be extremely dull at times, but the overall atmosphere of the school is gorgeous. On top of that, there is such a variety of students, you will never have trouble looking for the right crowd to fit in with.
Tips for prospective students When coming to the University of North Texas, make sure you become a part of one of the hundreds of organizations the University has to offer. It really is helpful when it comes to meeting new people with similar interests. And also, as a first year or even second year student, having a meal plan is an excellent choice. It gives you the ability to meet others and be social, and its fairly cheap!
Great for these types of students The University definitely has an extremely broad horizon of students. Because the Visual Arts program is extremely well known and growing, there are alot of artsy people. I think this school is perfect for those who may want to spend a few semesters close to home before they go further away to a different school, but definitely is worth spending all four years at as well.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot in all of my classes at UNT so far. Most of the professors are really helpful with making sure that all of the students understand the information that is presented to them, and tailor the pace of the lessons accordingly.
Am enjoying being here The city of Denton is one of the top cities for indie music in the country, and with the huge music college it seems like everyone here either plays music or knows people who do. It is also pretty close to Dallas, and the campus--while not the most beautiful campus in the country--is nice and has lots of old trees that look great during the fall.
Bang for the buck UNT has been named one of America's Best College Buys for many years, and is significantly more affordable than most other Texas universities. It is still more expensive than community college, but many students receive at least partial scholarships and since it is such a large university there are plenty of places to work on campus.
Tips for prospective students Paying the extra money to live in one of the newer dorms is worth it; the most recently built dorms at UNT more closely resemble apartments than traditional student dormitories. Many have private rooms and kitchenettes.
Great for these types of students The University of North Texas is perfect for any student who likes music or who gets along well with musicians. The school also has a lot of art students, and is likely the most liberal-minded university in Texas. Avid football fans might be disappointed in the school's football team, but they are still close-enough to Dallas that they can cheer for the Cowboys instead.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNT is an awesome place to not only learn new curriculum that will benefit you in our degree, but also to teach you about life in general. You meet and come into contact with so many different kinds of people, that being a freshman and living on campus is such a learning experience.
Am enjoying being here I am absoluetly enjoying myself here. I love meeting new people, and this is a perfect place to do that. There is so much diversity that it is contagious to want to go out there and show off your own unique personality. They really do cater to the student, and make sure that there are tons of events for you to go and get free food and stuff and mingle with new people.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth the money. I feel like UNT is an amazing secret catch in college education because we have so many distinguished professors that our education surpasses the amount they ask to be paid. They are very fair with fees.
Tips for prospective students Don't be shy. Everyone is in a great mood, and ready to learn and get to know more about you! An awesome environment to really break out and be yourself. Like I said, there is so much diversity and people are very, very accepting.
Great for these types of students Anyone. You see art kids walking around, jocks, nerds, cool kids, gay/lesbian every type of person is here at UNT. There is a place for everyone here, I love it!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a music major, attending the top jazz school in the country, the knowledge available is boundless! Every day I am learning something new, but not only from the professors. My fellow classmates continually amaze me with their talent and their knowledge of the same art that intrigues me so much! Every person is passionate about what they do and are rarely hesitant to help if help is needed!
Am enjoying being here After the shock of new friends, new challenges, new classes, new everything, I love it! Every day brings something new if you want it to. There are so many things to do all the time whether it be hanging out with friends at a coffeehouse on the square, attending one of the many shows around town and on campus, or simply watching our Mean Green as they face off against the enemy, it's never dull!
Bang for the buck Every university is expensive but it depends on where you think you belong. So far i've received every bit of information that I believe I payed for and so much more! The meal plan that is mandatory for freshman is a bit pricey but you'll never going hungry! Within the many fees you pay, you can print anytime you want in the computer labs for free, workout at the Recreation Center for free, and access all sorts of things in the library for free also!
Tips for prospective students My advice for any student looking to come here for school would be to attend some sort of orientation, whether it be Transfer or Freshman. Talk to people and try to make friends with people in your hallway, classes, even those in the cafeteria! You never know who could turn out to be your best friend and it is so much easier to survive college if you have people close to you that are going through the same situations!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the teachers know their stuff and are pretty entertaining but some I have one or two who should probably go teach high school or stop getting off on tangents.
Am enjoying being here I'm not really a Denton fan, don't get me wrong the school is great but careful on your driving, cops get bored here. Also motorcycles? Don't bring them. Never have car thefts but we had 8 motorcycles stolen in one night the first month of school!
Bang for the buck It's not community college cheap but it's alright.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you like where you will be living first and if you need a job apply in June or July. If you don't like noise don't stay in a dorm. Best freshmen halls for walking to class are Kerr and Maple as they have food for first thing in the morning and bus stops right in front of them. Also DON'T DO MORNING CLASSES!!! It's not like high school 8am because at least there you can go to bed before oh say... midnight?

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot With UNT having a very well rounded selection of academics and a recognized proficiency, I expect to learn anything and everything I hope to learn. I know I will be able to have the best experience here and be fully prepared for Law school after graduation.
Will enjoy being here I have had many friends attend UNT as well as family. Each person that has attended as loved their time there and have made many life long friends.
Bang for the buck UNT is noted for it having one of the best educations for the least expensive price. UNT has one of the cheapest tuitions for the standard of education it will provide.
Tips for prospective students Go to college having an open mind and be ready for a new experience different from anything you have ever experienced. Be prepared for more homework and course work and don't be afraid to ask for help from the tuitors, professors and fellow students.
Great for these types of students UNT is a great school for whatever student you may be. It will fit any major and help you to excell.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The Electrical Engineering program at UNT is fairly new. Though you you learn many new things, the program does not leave you completely comfortable with what you should know. I find that many of the professors are experts, however they are not very good teachers. They know what they are talking about, however many of the professors do not know how to communicate in a teaching technique. This may be a result of UNT being a primarily Arts based school.
Am enjoying being here UNT is a fun, exciting, diverse atmosphere. You see someone you have never seen before everyday because it is a very large school. There are always activities to do for the students, so you are hardly ever bored. The activities are great ways to meet new faces.
Bang for the buck For the most part, you get what you pay for at this school. The service from financial aid are very good and tend to operate smoothly. The school food is pretty okay in the dorms. and you have a variety to choose from. The dorms themselves could use a bit more maintenance as far as elevators and bugs.
Tips for prospective students College is what you make it. You are your own teacher. With any college you attend the teacher is never going to teach you 100% of what you have to learn. You must meet them half way by reading prior to class and doing outside research. The University of North Texas is a great school for students looking into the Arts, weather it be performing or visual. For engineering students I would recommend looking into other school prior, however the engineering building is amazing and the department provides you with many opportunities such as career fairs and project classes.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students looking for a diverse surrounding, large classes, and surrounding amenities such as close grocery stores and restaurants. The school is mainly and art school, so anyone whose focus is performing or visual arts, this is the school for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UNT, there are MANY opportunities to learn what you need to know, and an amazing amount of resources available to you. For instance, Willis Library is always open late, and there is a 24-hour computer lab just for students! If they don't have the book you need, they know how to get it. There are grad students that VOLUNTEER their time to help YOU, just so you can be ensured the success you deserve. There are quite a few areas on campus that are perfect for studying, and the professors are always eager to help you, provided you're willing to ask for their assistance. If you live in a residence hall, the R.A.'s (Resident Assistants) are trained (and quite happy) to assist you with anything you may need. Many of them are upper-level students in their field of study, and if they can't help you, they know someone who can. There are so many paths to success at UNT, which leaves no question about it being the best college you could hope to attend!!!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy UNT. Everyone I know enjoys UNT. The reason for this? It's simply because there's something for everyone. At UNT, there are so many clubs, organizations, and fraternities, that the last thing you should be doing is sitting in your room bored out of your mind. Seeing as UNT has quite the reputation for music, you should know that there are concerts, recitals, and all manner of performances almost EVERY day!!! Not a concert-goer? Then check out the fitness center. There's so much to there, even I go to the gym every once in a while! They have an amazing indoor pool, an upstairs jogging track, multiple basketball courts, and enough workout equipment to scare an Olympic athlete. The best part? It's all FREE for UNT students!!! What are you waiting for?!? Join the Mean Green and you'll understand just what an amazing community this truly is!
Bang for the buck College is expensive. That's true of any university you pick, albeit some cost more than others. But at UNT, you're guaranteed to get the most out your tuition; you just have to know what's available to you. For instance, part of your fees pay for the random computers that are all over campus. These are there for you, so use them! Your library fees are included, and as extensive as Willis Library is, you would be silly not to use it. (I didn't learn this till my second semester... big mistake!!!) Another thing people may not know is that residence halls are always having events that are free for UNT students, and that Bruce Hall tends to be the most proficient at this. Speaking of, Bruce Hall is centrally located on campus, and because of this is a central hub of sorts. In addition to it's location, the cafeteria is being expanded over the summer, which means that Bruce Cafeteria will be able to serve even more people than ever before, and trust me, it gets busy in there!
Tips for prospective students TALK TO YOUR T.A.'S AND PROFESSORS!!! I cannot stress this enough!!! They are not going to bite your head off if you ask to talk to them during office hours, and if you can't make it to those, they will schedule a meeting with you at both of your earliest conveniences. If you are in a class of 400+ people and your name is unknown to them, they will be that much less likely to help you when you need it. A way to prevent being overlooked is to sit in the FRONT of the class and PARTICIPATE in class discussion. Doing this will show that you have a vested interest in the class, plus it's easier to see and hear the teacher and board/projection/power-point.
Also... do NOT let partying destroy your study and sleep habits. It's fine to go to a few, I did, but make sure you understand that your grades come first, because what else are you paying for if not to learn? Remember the saying Good grades, enough sleep, and a social life. Pick two, welcome to college? You don't really know how true that is until you're here. In addition to this conundrum, most students, myself included, have one or more part-time jobs, and then time management becomes more of a crucial skill than it already is.
So to recap: Get to know the people who can help you, prioritize, and make sure you're actually getting some sleep. It catches up with you when you don't.Great for these types of students UNT is home to such a ridiculously wide variety of students that it's almost overwhelming, but fear not! There's a place for you. Obviously, Music students would be most at home here, but that's not the only thing we've got going on here. We have an exceptional Theatre program here, and our Accounting and Business majors are above par. We also have an amazing Art program, and if you're into Design of any kind (fashion, graphic, or interior), then we have a place for you as well.
These are but a FEW of the many opportunities that UNT has waiting for you, so quit reading this and check it out! You'll find that there's much more than I was able to fit in this review.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The faculty and staff here at UNT are the biggest resource to students, but you have to be active in using them as your resources! Professors are impressed by those who take time to talk to them during their office hours, so do it! If you are having any problem, may it be academic, social, or emotional, go talk to them about it! These people wouldn't be at the university if they didn't want you to succeed. It's not like they get paid a fortune to do so. Also, the people in your major are experienced and have connections in your field. So pay attention in class, take their advice and build strong relationships with them. They have the connections to get you internships and jobs. UNT is what you make of it! It can be a great place for learning but you have to be active in learning.
Am enjoying being here I love it at UNT. The community is so diverse and united. Once you find your place at UNT, my happens to be with Housing, you are sure to feel at home! Join clubs and organizations because UNT has so many to offer and that's where you're going to find your closest friends and connections. Plus, Denton is an awesome town with cool local businesses and such. Make sure you go to the square!
Bang for the buck UNT is definitely one of the best schools for your money. It's even been on the national list for the best education for your money three years in a row. My best friend goes to TCU and pays SO much more than I do, for the same quality education!
Tips for prospective students UNT is growing closer and closer to becoming a tier one university. So when you come, bring that Mean Green pride with you! Support our football team at the new stadium in the fall, wear green on Fridays, and be proud of the Mean Green! Also, live in a residence hall for at least your first year. It's required, but many freshman find a way of getting around it. But, you'l find that living in a residence hall your freshman year really helps you transition to the college life and you'll make life long friends there. Plus UNT Housing and Residence Life has so much to offer as far as the learning communities, called REAL communities, the programs, and housing associations.
Great for these types of students Honestly, anybody can find a fit at UNT. We have a lot of commuters who come strictly to get their degree, but we also have a great community on-campus and in Denton. The Greek life is really thriving and we have so many clubs and organizations for any interest.

Am enjoying being here Not a lot to do on campus. On weekends, everyone goes home and the campus feels empty.
Tips for prospective students Food is not bad here and there are many options. Dorms are also quite nice, including the older dorms. The school is currently working on building a new Stadium, a new parking garage, and possibly a new Union so future students will be well off.
Great for these types of students UNT is known for its music program so musicians should definitely consider it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of North Texas is known mainly as an arts school, with an excelling jazz program and various other artsy areas, but that isn't to say the other programs don't excel either. For the basics anywhere, you're definitely going to learn only a certain amount. North Texas definitely changes the definition of reviewing basics from high school. This college is filled with prospective students of all ages that are there for one common goal: further their learning. UNT absolutely helps students in this aspect, challenging students far more than most other public college, whether they are junior colleges or universities.
Am enjoying being here Making friends and being social is something most people look forward to when going to college, UNT is no exception. I made several close friends my first year here. There is always something to do, on or off campus. There are several programs and organizations you can join, and none have an obligation to join or continue being a part of. There are also several community service opportunities, which is always a good thing.
Bang for the buck Since it’s a public university, UNT isn't very expensive. Most people believe you get what you pay for, but North Texas proves you can have a great education without the massive amount of debt after you graduate. Its affordable, has several scholarship opportunities, as well as work programs and work opportunities for those who need extra help. There are several benefits to being a student, for example, free clinic, gym membership (to an AWESOME gym), free printing, free admittance to concerts and many other perks. It’s definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students Do your research, of course, before you choose a college. I have never, however, met anyone who said they are transferring because they did not like North Texas. I've known several people from high school to return home because they chose the wrong college. Not a single person I've ever come into contact with has said they didn't like UNT. Most, in fact, are sad to leave at the end of the semesters, and always look forward to returning to Denton when classes begin again. But keep an open mind when going to any college. You can definitely meet new people, but it’s easier when you're open to try new things and listen to other people's opinions.
Great for these types of students The University of North Texas is well known for being an arts school, so if you are an art major or music major of any sort, this school is definitely one you want to be on the top of your list. This school is also big on education, so if you are looking to teach, you're in good hands. But that isn't to say other areas aren't excellent. The engineering program, fashion program, political science department, and various other departments are far beyond outstanding.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am planning on majoring in criminal justice, and being a Crime Scene Investigator. The DFW area has aALOT of crime, so I will have many opportunities to learn hands on. And the professors are people who have had experience already in the field.
Will enjoy being here I've been to the campus 2-3 times already, and it's great. There is also a lot of things to do in Denton. And, the DFW area has over 2 million people and a ton of things to do. You'll never be bored!
Bang for the buck Very affordable. And they have payment plans if you can't pay up front.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and do all the steps to admissions as soon as you can. That way you'll get many of the steps to admissions and entering into the school out of the way and you can relax and enjoy the school.
Great for these types of students They have majors for almost anyone. That's one of my favorite reasons for attending UNT. If I realize I don't want to major in something, they most likely, will have just about everything else to major in.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The school is has a large student body, but that has helped me find who I am. Because there are so many different people here, it was easy for me to find who I wanted to hang out with and who I want to be. Although UNT is a large school, no one is really left behind because there are help centers that provide students with assistance. If that isn't enough, students can easily form study groups. I am a freshman this semester, and I am proud to admit that I am doing really well thanks to the resources here on campus.
Am enjoying being here It took me awhile to find the people who are my friends today, but I found them. As long as you try to find friends, you are bound to find and keep some. Once you find a few, they just keep multiplying and multiplying. Next thing you know, you are never bored!
Bang for the buck Overall, tuition for UNT is not relatively expensive. 18 grand a year sounds a lot more appealing than 40. However, housing is expensive. Six thousand per year is pretty expensive for a standard residence hall where you have only a bed, a desk and restroom you have to share with three other people. One more thing, do not get the seven-day meal plan unless you are from a super far away city. Trust me, you will not be on campus nearly enough that it will be worth it to have to pay for the two extra days.
Tips for prospective students I have a roommate who never leaves the room. She also happens to have a boyfriend who she is always on the phone with. I want to shoot my head every time they decide to strike up a conversation when I am ready to go to sleep. With that being said, do not come to college planning to be glued to your boyfriend or girlfriend all the time. I am not saying that every one should come single to college either. I am simply saying that you should come ready to do experience.
Great for these types of students People who are tolerant of many different views. People who are ready to meet all kinds of people. People who want to have fun.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNT is a wonderful college full of students willing to learn anything. Never had a problem with the curriculum and the professors are all fun to learn from. I highly recommend this school for students that want an education, but cannot spend to much each year for tuition.
Tips for prospective students Learn to study
Dorm Life Kerr hall is defiantly the easiest to get into. There are plenty of people to meet in just the first few days.
Food and Dining Not exactly the best food unless you go to Victory hall by the Apogee Stadium.
What to do for fun Basically I started hanging out with a group of smoker friends, then eventually we started going to campus parties and then soon we will be going to fry street for some bar hopping.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fry street, Art Six
Great for these types of students Anyone really

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of North Texas is a great school. Not only is it the third largest school in Texas, it's on it's way to becoming one of the best in the nation. UNT offers great academics and social life as well as the chance to be a part of something special.
Tips for prospective students Be proud of the University no matter what. Also get as involved outside of class work in extracurriculars, going to athletic/arts events etc. as possible.
Academic Rigor North Texas' (unless we are talking about the music program) isn't known for being the most challenging school around; but if you apply yourself and go above and beyond the work can be very rigorous and you will learn a lot; it also depends on the classes you take.
Dorm Life My experience in the dorm was good; the halls are generally well kept and the RAs/HAs are attentive and helpful.
Food and Dining On campus food is just mediocre; it's better than Ramen and Chef Boyardee though. Denton has a lot of good places to eat.
What to do for fun Party on the weekends; Denton is also known as the other smaller music city and has lots of under ground shows in the bars and house shows around town if you can find them. Dallas and Fort Worth is also located 30 minutes (roughly) each way.
Bang for the buck North Texas is much more affordable than other schools and offers a great experience and education.
Great for these types of students Artistic.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of student organizations and clubs. Something for everyone.
Greek Life Greek Life isn't that of UT Austin or some other Southern schools since the school is majority artistic, but it definitely is growing and one of the better Greek Life communities in the state.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of North Texas was a great decision; good location, large number of majors to choose from, reasonable pricing. The school is well known and has a good reputation. I would recommend this college to students of any age.
Tips for prospective students Work your hardest in your first few years, you'll need that high GPA when you get into the tougher years. Live on-campus in the dorms and immerse yourself in the culture and meet as many new people as possible. Take advantage of the tutoring programs- they are a life saver!
Academic Rigor Depending on the program you choose, academics can be easy or difficult. I choose an easier program and regret it now- challenge yourself and you'll be thankful you did!
Dorm Life Wonderful locations, good food, fun events. I lived in Clark Hall and enjoyed the late night sundaes and nacho bar! Parking is a little tight, so it's better if you use a bike.
Food and Dining Lots of choices, each dorm has their own type of food so everyone can be fed happily.
What to do for fun Sports, both school sponsored and inter-mural, lots of clubs and a nice town to enjoy in your off time.
Bang for the buck Take advantage of your opportunity, go to every class you can and study as much as possible. Don't waste this wonderful time of your life!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It has a wonderful campus. It has a lot of student activities and opportunities. The city of Denton is small and a wonderful atmosphere for college students.

Dorm Life I never stayed in the dorms
Food and Dining The restaurants around Denton are wonderful but I have never eaten at the university.
What to do for fun Fry street has the bars, the square has the life and relaxing environment. Both of them are right off campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences unt, as well as the city of denton, is mostly students, and it shows. i am constantly pleased with the friendliness of the people here. unt is somewhat spread out, but it is pretty easy to get around via campus buses.
Tips for prospective students parking costs a bundle, so be prepared for that or use public transportation. it costs the same for a semester regional pass (dallas, plano, arlington, fort worth, denton, etc.) for all public transportation services as it does for a parking space.
Academic Rigor i have taken several social sciences classes and they did not seem that challenging. this could be due to the fact that many instructors are doctoral candidates. instructors are very willing to spend a few moments after class for any questions and i have yet to find a rude or unpleasant one. i have only had once class so far that didn't have some form of extra credit.
Dorm Life there are lots of campus housing areas, most within 1/2 mile. public buses are free with campus id.
Food and Dining abnormally large percent of neighboring businesses seem to be local & independent rather than corporate chains. there are several pizza places, bars, and specialty restaurants (indian, seafood, etc.)
What to do for fun right across the street from the campus is an oxygen bar open only in the afternoons, haven't been yet, but i plan to check it out soon.
there is a large variety of places to eat both on campus and in the neighboring area.Bang for the buck unt might not have the same prestige as smu, but it is still very nice, and certainly much cheaper. expect to pay about $1300 per 4 hour class (including fees, texts, etc.). financial aid seems kind of lacking, but the fa office claims it is temporarily short on funding.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the environmental building has water-less urinals, and a running ticker of the currently known world population.
Great for these types of students abundance of churches in the area
well-established music programsClubs and Activities large amount of postings on nearly every board on campus.
Campus Safety in the last year i remember hearing about 1 student being shot in their apartment, no details. i have never felt uneasy while on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of north texas at denton is the best of both worlds. is a place where you go to learn but also have fun. unt is diverse, fun, and its people are completely outgoing.
Tips for prospective students look forward to be at a great university.
Academic Rigor challenging but they are so many programs to help and provide information to pass all classes.
Dorm Life the dorm life is great and they are always so many things going on, as a student living on campus i am never bored.
Food and Dining food is amazing and they are different dinning facilities one can pick from, aside from many other food courts that are available at a swipe of my id card.
What to do for fun fun is never ending at unt, they are activities and things going on all the time on campus. from holiday activities to games as well as music concerts which are amazing. there is really no possible way to go bored and not find friends at unt.
Campus Safety there is always security around campus, so there is no reason why not to feel safe when walking from classes, especially in the afternoons.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of north texas is a well developed university that takes a lot of pride in its students. the staff really go out of their way to fulfill every students' needs and requests. overall, this school is a good school to attend for anyone.
Tips for prospective students make sure you practice studying, because in college studying is what gets you the grades needed to succeed. and practice writing too, because there is plenty of writing to be done in college. and as you progress in school, the writing tends to become more and more challenging. so, stay focused primarily on studying and practice (not just of writing, but of any other important scholarly skills).
Academic Rigor the staff and faculty on campus really try to enforce the importance of academics. they are always throwing out rules and regulations, and even suggestions, regarding academics. the students follow and even promote these same ideas as well.
Dorm Life living on campus is a huge factor in obtaining the college life. staying in a dorm while in college has many advantages. when you stay in a dorm, you acquire the privilege of on-campus dining for free (though it's not technically free, it is paid for in your tuition, should you choose a meal plan, which is offered to those who choose to live on campus). living on campus also allows easy and convenient access to social programs, learning activities, and just fun and entertaining things to do with interesting people.
Food and Dining the dining halls on campus offer the students with exceptional food services that is paid for in the tuition, if the student applies for a meal plan. outside of the on-campus dining halls, there are many different restaurants around the campus that are conveniently placed and very good!
What to do for fun there are many different opportunities for students to have fun on campus. these range from movie and game nights in the campus dorm halls to special events (concerts, guest speakers, etc.) in the coliseum.
Bang for the buck college is expensive. make sure to apply for as many scholarships as possible. but for what this college is priced at, it really is worth it.
Great for these types of students great for all types of students.

Tips for prospective students sign up for classes with ta's if you want an easy a!
Academic Rigor depends on the teacher, do research before signing up.
Dorm Life don't live in kerr!!
Food and Dining dorm food is gross, wish we had more restaurant choices
What to do for fun um... not much? rockin rodeo thursdays
Bang for the buck depends what your goal is at unt

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences diverse student population, lots of nontraditional students and commuters. lots of options for food on campus. great teachers and class sizes.
Tips for prospective students visit more than once. you're not likely to run into the same people on campus, eat in the same place, or see the same organizations out and about. its diverse and there are always events going on (free food) if you just look for them.
Academic Rigor the administration recommends students take 15 credits. add any of the following: a part-time job, an intramural sport or hanging out with family and friends, and your free time disappears.
Dorm Life i live in an economy dorm on campus, and i have a giant (but old) room, communal bathrooms (but get cleaned every morning mon-fri by a professional), and a dining hall downstairs. what more can you ask for?
Food and Dining each cafeteria has a different theme, and totally different food.
bruce - just well cooked food, every meal, offers homestyle as well as freshly made pizza and pasta.
west - lunch and dinner only, homestyle cooking.
kerr - open late late late, bluebell ice cream! lots of selection, but not as good as bruce.
mean greens @ maple - delicious vegan food, every meal of the day, even delicious if you're not vegan/vegetarian.
champs @ victory - far off campus, unless you live at victory, but delicious food! What to do for fun go to the movies on college days (thursday for $3), work out in the fantastic rec center, check out the music scene downtown, hit up fry street if you like to abuse your liver, or just chill out and eat jimmy johns late night in your dorm.
Bang for the buck ridiculously low tuition price compared to other public universities in texas. dorm prices are pretty pricey, but they're nicer than off campus and so convenient.
Great for these types of students music, art or education student will really enjoy the extensive options offered in each of these colleges at unt.
Clubs and Activities tons of clubs to join, no matter your interest/schedule, just keep an eye out for a new flyer or even a facebook page in your field of interest! we've got everything from the feminists, democrats, socialists, intramural dodge ball players, dungeons and dragons, glee and much more!
Greek Life prevalent on campus in the form of sweatshirts/teeshirts/other clothing items.
Campus Safety well lit, unt shuttle buses run all over campus and town until like 10:30, and emergency stations are numerous.

Tips for prospective students transferring can create issues, so if you are looking for a school, skip the ju-co (community or junior college) and go straight to unt. it's very affordable to attend unt and you can start working on your degree plan and not worry about class and credits not transferring.
What to do for fun lots to choose from.

Tips for prospective students look up your proffessors before you sign up for classes.
Academic Rigor i am only in easy level classes, but its a decent challenge.
Dorm Life i personally dont like it.
Food and Dining some halls are better than others. it sucks that meal plans are mandatory.
What to do for fun theres a great music scene here in denton.
Bang for the buck pay way too much for the quality of food.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none that ive participated in.
Great for these types of students arts students.
Clubs and Activities the language clubs are really cool.
Greek Life not my thing.
Campus Safety well, two people have been held at gun point on campus and one hippie was found dead in his tent. the cops around here seem to pull over the wrong people as well.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a great campus with a very diverse student population. it's academically challenging and expects every student's best. here you're not just a tuition check, but the school really cares about their students and offer all different programs and events to help students succeed.
Tips for prospective students pick the school that feels like a good academic field, don't go somewhere just because your friends are because chances are, you won't be happy with your choice.
What to do for fun denton is a great city. there are tons of places to eat, everything from big chains to small local places. there's fry street for bars, rockin rodeo for dancing, and unt always has an athletic event going on or a celebrity guest speaker come to campus. there's never a dull moment for unt students.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences unt is a fascinating liberal school with the perfect combination of innovative and past teaching methods. it offers focused programs for students who know what they want and expect from themselves. unt is a great place to build a future and a current character for yourself.
Tips for prospective students come into unt expecting to be challenged and knowing exactly it is what you want to get out of your education. the school has several resources to help push you along to ensure success in your future.
What to do for fun there are tons of music events around campus and the city of denton. greek life, too!
Bang for the buck the tuition, although on the rise, is one of the least expensive in texas for public universities and they provide copious amounts of extra help with classes through seminars, lectures, tutoring, and helpful teaching assistants
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the legend of the albino squirrel running around campus

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a great local university with a variety of degrees and specializations. large campus that focuses on green efforts and sustainability, as well as creating opportunities for student involvement. community lifestyle offers something for everyone - from local bands and nightlife, to showcases of local artists and businesses.
Tips for prospective students take charge of your own education. this includes staying on top of deadlines, homework, and opportunities to expand your college experience. university is what you make of it. join clubs, be involved, and embrace the community in and out of university.
Academic Rigor depends on your major, but all majors are taxing in a positive way. you will have to do research papers and be well versed in your subject matter.
Dorm Life having never lived in the dorms, all i can say is that they have made vast improvements in the meal plans since i attended school.
Food and Dining there are many eateries in and around campus so you'll always have options. the union has a corner store for quick bites and offers fresh meal choices to satisfy both vegan/vegetarian and more carnivorous appetites.
What to do for fun local bars and clubs showcase bands and standup/poetry slams. great variety of kitschy shopping and eateries. social atmosphere on and off campus fosters new friendships and camaraderie but is not so heavy on the party atmosphere - though you certainly can embrace it if you so desire.
Bang for the buck you will get a solid, reputable degree.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus many days of university celebration often happen in the union such as university day. when the mean green teams are victorious in sport, the tower of the administration is lit in green.
Great for these types of students students who enjoy smaller classes will find this university helpful. also a great university for those students who are self motivated.
Clubs and Activities lots of different options of clubs and societies.
Greek Life active greek life with many having houses on campus.
Campus Safety this is a very safe campus. the university has taken many steps to ensure student safety such as adding more lights to walkways and making sure paths have clearly accessible emergency call points.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It's a great University with a lot to offer, although it is a predominately Music and Arts school the other programs do not suffer. As rated by The Princeton Review, UNT is rated one of The Best in the West schools.
Tips for prospective students Come and take a tour of Campus, whether that is with out Eagle Ambassadors or a self-guided tour. Come a get the feel for Denton and the atmosphere of campus.
Academic Rigor The general core classes are going to be similar to high school classes but they are going to be more demanding and less material based and more test and essay writing based, then the upper level classes that are more major specific are going to make you think and work a lot harder.
Dorm Life I personally didn't live in the dorms but I have a lot of friends who have, apply early and if possible live with someone that you know or with people you know. From what I have heard the dorm is where you are going to meet a lot of your friends that you stay close with throughout your time at UNT.
Food and Dining Cafeterias vary, the nicer and newer dorms don't necessarily have in-house dining so you might have to walk to another dorm to eat. Some of the on campus eating places are good but other are not. Again come and take a look at the campus and see how you like it. There are a lot of close off campus dining choices that are withing walking distance.
What to do for fun There are a lot of on campus activities, whether they are sponsored but Student Government Association, Campus Life or by our Rec Sports Program. There are a lot of weekly things that go on in our Student Union and then almost year round there are intramural sports available as well as club sports ranging from free to no more than a couple hundred dollars, just depending on how much you are wanting to invest into it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNT is an excellent school that provides a world class music program for an affordable price. I love the campus as it is positioned 40 miles from Dallas giving it a secluded feeling. Overall this college satisfies both my desires for a exceptional college of music and for an academic challenge.
Tips for prospective students Definitely tour the campus before attending. I would also suggest trying to sit in on a couple of classes so you can get an idea for the class sizes and professors at the University of North Texas. If you're a music student, try to schedule a meeting with your area's head professor. I found that helpful for both being able to screen who I would potentially study under and for getting to know what they would expect of me for the audition.
What to do for fun The college campus has a rec center free with student ID that is available everyday of the week and late nights. There's a place called The Square located to the east of campus that offers many cool restaurants (with frequent band performances) and places to shop.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even though my desired major was to be East Asian Studies (which UNT doesn't currently offer), UNT's plethora of courses helped me get the courses I needed in order to equivilate myself to an East Asian Studies degree. Most of the teachers here are extremely qualified and most want to see their students succeed in their respective fields.
Am enjoying being here I.... freaking.... LOVE UNT. However if you want a football school, go elsewhere. Our Basketball team is pretty good though. But UNT's pride and joy is their music program. Nearly every month, there is a huge concert that students can go to for free to get their dose of classical, rock, or any other type of music. The different kinds of clubs here range from the academic, atheletic, or screwy.
Bang for the buck CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!!! Tution is around $4,000 for 12 hours and it increases by $50 for every hour taken after that. Housing is cheap at West Hall and College Inn. The new dorms are rip offs
Tips for prospective students 1. Make a schedule and stick to it
2. Use a planner
3. Make contacts all around the school. You will never know who might help you later in the future.
4. GO TO THE GYM!!!! The Freshman Fifteen is no fun.
5. Get out of your dorm room everyonce in a while and go have fun, but remember that your studies DO COME FIRSTGreat for these types of students Athletic, Musical, Dorky, Funny, Studious,

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a current transfer student here at UNT, and I have fell in love with the way of teaching here. The professors make sure you find a way to understand the material and get help. When you enroll in your classes you have a recitation for every class, and with doing that you have everyday to learn and get help without falling behind. Everyone is so willing to help.
Am enjoying being here I am a very social person, I love interacting with people, and University of North Texas makes that possible everyday. The countless activities and group organizations. It seems that everyone on campus is so nice and generous. I was scared that I wouldn't meet people but i found out quickly that's not the case.
Bang for the buck Transportation is AWESOME!!! If you do not have a car do not worry at all. Denton has a bus route system that will take you almost any and everywhere you need to go. Grocery Store, Mall, Class, Home, it even has a commuter bus and train, so if you want to go all the way to Dallas you can do that. FREE OF CHARGE just show you UNT student i.d card. If you love to ride your bike, bikes have their own lane so you can ride safely where ever you go!
Great for these types of students Great for students who like diversity, social and safe atmosphere. A student who cares about their education.

Am enjoying being here UNT is a place for everyone. It is campus full of many opportunities for the present and the future!
Bang for the buck UNT is a cost efficient campus that provides a state-of-the-art education at a convenient price for out of state residents and in-state residents.
Tips for prospective students If you are transferring from a different university, make sure that most of your credits will transfer! You do not want to go to a college where you will be extremely behind. Go to student orientation, I know it sounds crazy, but it helps in the long run! Finally, join organizations and clubs! Never be afraid to make a difference and help others!

Am enjoying being here There is always things going on here and there. The UPC does something every friday on campus. There are a lot of clubs also that you can join. There pretty much is something for everyone.
Bang for the buck There are alot of things that you pay for in with your student fees. You get things like tutoring and help in the library and a 24 hour computer lab at the library on campus (helpful on those nights of late night studying).
Tips for prospective students Apply early. the quicker you get your acceptence letter the sooner you can apply for housing. apply for scholarships through your college if you qualify for them.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am a musician. I attended a camp at UNT and they gave me so much to learn. they didn't just throw the information at me though, they had a unique and productive way of teaching.
Will enjoy being here The faculty and students that I met were simply incredible. The amazing professors were very down to earth which is very different from a lot of musicians who are extremely arrogant.
Bang for the buck I haven't done enough research to put a great deal here, but I did receive an e-mail from them saying that if you were to get $1,000 in scholarships that you could get in-state tuition.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The majority of professors I've had have been very intelligent and very well rounded. Most make it a point to relate to the students, which I find to be extremely important.
Am enjoying being here I love the atmosphere of UNT itself, but Denton as a city has yet to really win me over.
Tips for prospective students Students planning on applying and/or attending UNT should have a pretty good idea of what they want out of a college. While UNT is known for their prestigious Music program, it also offers many other wonderful majors and degree plans. I myself am a Psychology major and am loving every moment of it.
Along with its well rounded educational opportunities, its alumni are very impressive. Singer/Musician Norah Jones, Dr. Phil McGraw, Mean Joe Greene, and Author Larry McMurtry are just a few among the well renowned UNT alumni.
The campus is always alive, people are everywhere. The Residence Halls are very well kept. I stayed in Victory Hall my first year and absolutely loved it. Athletes mostly resided in Victory, but not everyone there were an athlete or had anything to do with the athletic department, such as myself. All of the Residency Halls have an amazing community feel and it is very easy to make friends.
All around UNT is a wonderful choice of college for just about anyone who is interested in great balance of education and social life.
Great for these types of students Musicians, Psychology Majors, UNT is great for just about any kind of student. There's something for everyone here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here are fantastic. Not only do they encourage their students to think on a deeper level but most of them think they have their own stand-up show. (Their jokes are pretty awful, but they try to keep subjects like Political Science exciting). The weirdest and most abstract teachers are the graduate students, my philosophy professor's eyes would light up each time Aristotle's name was mentioned in discussions. He loved doing his job and jumped at the chance to debate (respectfully), which really helped me get a A!
Am enjoying being here Every day there is some event going on, and they all have one thing in common. FREE STUFF!! Every college kid loves free stuff, there's no point in buying UNT gear at the bookstore when they just give it out for school spirit on football game days. It never fails. There's either a group trying to rack in more members with free stuff, apartments surrounding the campus giving out free stuff, companies and corporations giving out free opportunities to get a nice job, free information about free cinema standard movie showings on campus at the Union (building where most of the action goes down), and the list goes on and on. The people here are super nice, and it's easy to find your own niche because campus life, food, and Denton life is so diverse.
Bang for the buck UNT is not expensive compared to other universities. It's located in Denton, Texas which reminds me a lot of home so I fell in love with it right away.
Tips for prospective students Watch out for the squirrels and bike cyclists! (Even uni-cyclists). They own this campus hands down.
Great for these types of students The tree lovers, the cheerleaders, the jocks, DnD fanatics, Anime enthusiasts, the party animals, the shy, the nerdy, the gangster (guys that sag their jeans, but are extremely extremely smart), the artsy, the outspoken (especially), the hipsters, the bike cyclists, the tattooed, the pierced, the music lovers (one of the nation’s finest comprehensive music schools), and you!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I've heard nothing but positive remarks about the music program at UNT, and I really want to be a part of that.
Will enjoy being here I'm anxious to get out of Nebraska more than anything, but if it can be at a great school with a great reputation- all the better.
Bang for the buck The academics and extra-curriculars speak for themselves.
Great for these types of students Music!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a substantial amount at this school, I haven't really jumped to my major yet, but so far so good!
Am enjoying being here I really do like the people, but it sucks how most people leave on the weekends because most tend to live about an hour away so there is no weekend social life unless you are in a sorority/frat or live here
Bang for the buck School has pretty good tuition, relatively cheap
Tips for prospective students I would suggest you meet as many people as you can!
Great for these types of students This school is awesome for any type of person, but to be specific, really artsy people...or just different

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot This campus is huge and offers nearly every course one could want, from engineering to art. Pretty much the only thing you can't get here are degrees that require attending specialized schools.
Will enjoy being here Very open and freindly environment with tons of social interaction. A huge library offers leasure reading and they also have a large recreation center with lots of training equipment. There is good food, clean buildings, lots of places to relax, what more could you ask for?
Bang for the buck This is just about the most affordable school around, and offers a huge amount of classes. You really cant get a better deal anywhere.
Tips for prospective students research the dorms before you choose one so that you can get one filled with students in the same major as you.
Great for these types of students Students who crave social interaction, music lovers, people on a low budget who need a good degree, engineering majors.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot There are a lot of different people at UNT so I'm sure to meet people who think differently from me, which would be a good thing.
Will enjoy being here The overall atmosphere seems pretty chill, I don't think I'll have a problem with meeting new people because of the big campus and student population and organizations.
Tips for prospective students I advise to definitely check out the campus! I think you'll like what you see.
Great for these types of students Anyone can fit in at UNT. Seems like a great school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNT has a great mix of classes for everyone. A lot of the classes I am in now are difficult and easy. They each have times when it seems absolutely pointless to be sitting in class but there are many other days that it seems like your learning an overwhelming amount of information. If you spend your time outside of class studying, you should have no problem.
Am enjoying being here I love it here! There is always something on campus to do. Plus if you want to go off campus there are buses that go everywhere around Denton. Once you start riding the buses it is very easy to get around without a car.
Bang for the buck It can be a little expensive depending on how you look at it. I believe that is is well worth it. You get tons of tutoring opportunities and just a lot of great things to help you further your education while here.
Tips for prospective students Learn study habits before going to any college. Take advantage of everything your campus has to offer. And also just have fun while your here. Take a break from studying every once in a while.
Great for these types of students I would say it is great for all kinds of students. But this is a very big fine arts school. So if you are very artistic and talented in that field you would definitely love it here. There is always music playing everywhere you go on campus which also makes it a very fun environment.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot As I am in pursuit of my B.A.A.S. degree, UNT has excellent programs that accept my credits earned at a Technical College. I am looking forward to attending in the Fall of 2009. Everyone I have met at the campus is friendly and very helpful.
Bang for the buck For the price, UNT is the best value for me as I further my educational career.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Learning a lot at North Texas depends on the amount of effort you put into activities and school work! You get what you give in! There are multiple tutoring times around campus that help you with all sorts of school work. There are also multiple guest speakers that come and speak to you! You have the opportunity to create a great learning environment
Am enjoying being here I've grown up in Austin all my life and have never lived anywhere other than Austin. Moving four hours away to go to school, especially to a smaller city such as Denton made me nervous. However, I absolutely love Denton, TX. I think it is the perfect size not to small and not to big, if you ever need a big city atmosphere Dallas in minutes away. As for the campus it is beautiful and filled with people that are easy to get along with!
Bang for the buck With tuition on the rise, finding an on campus job and applying for scholarships is the smartest thing to do. Although it isn't one of the cheapest school, there are many other universities that are much more expensive, UNT will always try to help you as well.
Tips for prospective students ENJOY THE COLLEGE LIFE! Look at the positives of living on campus if you are a freshman, everyone has to live in dorms at least once in their lives, it is all about the college experience! It was definitely an unusual way of living, so close to your roommate in a tight area but you can make it work! Join the organizations at school, take advantage of the tutors around campus, get to know your professors, go to the many school events where free food and free t shirts are always available! UNT does its best to keep the student community lively and close! Have fun and do good!
Great for these types of students It is not a secret that UNT is known for liberal arts! Perfect for art students and musicians! However, there are a wide variety of students! The atmosphere on campus is wonderful and you will be able to meet people in no time!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is a great college for anything to do with the arts. I am currently studying Interior Design and the teachers are dedicated to teaching all of the students all they can. We are taught about not only space planning and finish selections but about computer programs that may be helpful to us as Interior Designers and any information that may apply to our major and future jobs. There is a built in internship which we have to take before we can graduate and there is a lot to learn from actually working in your field of choice. The teachers are helpful and you will learn as much as you want to and put your effort into.
Am enjoying being here This is not only an educational school but one that is fun as well. There is always something going on and the quality of students allows for good friends that you will always have. The teachers are interesting and fun as well. The particular building I am in nearly everyday of my college life, the Art Building, always has something interesting in the Lightwell. There are always shows of some sort of art and there is always something going on down town which is just minutes away from campus.
Bang for the buck I am definitely learning a lot at this school. Students have to want to learn in order to learn so you can't just show up to class and expect to be the next expert in your field. The teachers are dedicated to the students learning and having a good knowledge base of things affecting not only their majors and future jobs but also their live.
Tips for prospective students GO TO CLASS! The more you are in class, the more you will learn and the more you will succeed. It may seem like a pain but it is well worth it. Definitely stay on top of your work. You do not want to be that student who is pulling all nighters at the end of the semester. Likely, your grades will suffer. Although this college is fun and exciting it is also challenging and you have to stay on top of your classes and works if you wish to succeed.
Great for these types of students This university is great for anyone wishing to study in music, psychology, or the arts. There is a great jazz program here and all of the design classes are difficult and brutal which will only prove your worth to future employers and help you to learn more.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Four out of my five classes so far are very educational. Besides the strictly academic, I feel I'm learning a lot about other cultures. UNT is a very diverse school.
Am enjoying being here I'm loving the college experience here. There are so many clubs and activities, there really is something for everyone. There is always something interesting going on somewhere on campus if you take the time to look.
Bang for the buck They have a ton of scholarships for just about everyone. Plus they are inexpensive to start with, for in-state anyway.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour, go to the preview days.
Great for these types of students There are lots of art and music people, also a fair crowd of engineering students. It's great for just about anyone in my opinion. You can really choose for yourself the type of experience you want. You can go through and be anonymous and keep to yourself for four years if that's your thing. Or you can get super-involved and have a million friends and know everyone. There is a good mix of challenging and easier classes. Pretty much the perfect college.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I have looked into the education program in talking to peers and adults who have attended here and they have stated that they have learned a lot from the school. They said the teachers are personable and you enjoy learning from them. I can't wait!
Will enjoy being here I have also looked into the surrounding area as well as pictures of the campus itself. I think I will enjoy being there. The campus is beautiful and the surrounding town in not too big and it seems pretty amiable.
Bang for the buck I have looked at many prices for colleges of the same stature as UNT and have found that the prices are really low and easy for low income families to accommodate to. They have many scholarships and a good variety of work opportunities around the college campus as well as the surrounding city.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning to attend, like I am, I would recommend doing the easy online applications as well as completing it early so that you will not miss the scholarship deadlines for the upcoming school year, as I did.
Great for these types of students It is great for aspiring dancers, like myself, and also for those who are looking into the field of education. If you are wanting to be a teacher this is a great place to attend.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences February is a spring month, why is there snow? My class wasn't uphill when I was on time last Monday... HOW IS IT FINALS ALREADY????
Tips for prospective students Get a bicycle! Denton is an adorable town and almost everything you need is a bike ride away. Fall and spring are particularly beautiful, so invest in a good pair of flip flops and a frisbee.
Academic Rigor The UNT College of Music is like boot camp for musicians. If you think you're good enough, you're wrong. Ray Charles isn't good enough for the UNT CoM. But you make your bed and lie in it, and when you graduate you have a tight group of friends and an alum base that will hire you anywhere you want to be.
UNT has one of the highest post-grad employment rates in the country because we push our students so hard there's just no way you don't come out great at what you do. But don't expect to sleep much. Sleep is for slackers and bums.Dorm Life Every dorm has its own personality! The majority of your friends when you move to a new place come from where you live, and UNT is no exception. It sounds cliche, but there really is a place for absolutely everybody to fit in here.
Food and Dining Avoid at all costs. As a freshman you're pretty much required to have a meal plan; stick to the salad bar. Seriously. Make friends with someone who has a car and get them to take you grocery shopping so you can stock up on oreos and pb&j, because campus food is not something you should ever put in your body. Also, try to avoid the Freshman 15.
What to do for fun The Square (our downton) is a nice walk from campus and there's tons of little shops and restaurants or bars to explore. Or you could sprawl out on the big lawn in front of the courthouse and study or read or play frisbee or whatever you feel like. There always seems to be some sort of protest or demonstration going on, and those are always pretty entertaining. And even though UNT is by no means a party school, somebody somewhere will have a house party on a weekend. For those who are 21+, Fry Street houses our array of local watering holes! The mall has a $2 movie theater and it's on a bus route so people without cars can get there on weekdays. And because it's Denton, someone always has a gig. On any given night you can find somebody making music. Go to those.
Bang for the buck SO MUCH BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! This school is Texas' best kept secret! 4 academically rigorous years at a cheap(er) state school with a massive alum base to hire you after graduation? We are so lucky to go here!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school mascot is an eagle, so on the rare occasion the football team scores (although it's getting better), we all form claws with our hands and hold them up. Also, there's a lot of caw-ing. It's weird.
Great for these types of students Fine arts: music, art, dance. Also liberal arts and business students.
Expect weird people and lots of hipsters. But I have never met a Denton-ite I didn't like, honest uncle.Clubs and Activities Student Gov't is huge here, as are service organizations and music events. There is never nothing going on.
And sometimes there's free food!Greek Life Lots of greeks and lots of greek activity. I'm not involved, but they seem nice.
Campus Safety We get the occasional email about a theft or a robbery, but it's usually only once a semester. Denton is pretty safe and the UNT police do a good job of making sure no mayhem ensues during events.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNT, like most colleges, is what you make it. There's literally always something going on or something to do on campus that will interest even the most seclusive student. Oh, and a lot of goodies are included in your tuition, so when that basketball game, football game, or John Legend concert rolls around, it's all free!
Tips for prospective students I always say, if you're having too much fun, you're not making good grades; if you have excellent grades, you aren't having a lot of fun. Take that for what it's worth and find a happy medium.
Academic Rigor The classes are, of course, more rigorous than at a community college or junior college. But with anything you put your mind to, study hard for, and pray about, it's doable.
Dorm Life There's always more than a few people who still have a child's mentality and will be inconsiderate regardless of others. But having a dorm will definitely teach you patience, sharing, and even more respect. Just remember, it's what you make it and people will take advantage of you if you let them.
Food and Dining I have a duplicitous attitude about this. Having a meal plan, meaning having 3 meals [breakfast, lunch, and dinner] guaranteed at all times is very convenient. However, it costs a pretty penny and sometimes just having microwaveable dinners is cheaper. Do what makes you happy, but the food UNT provides is delicious.
What to do for fun Like I said previously, there's always something to do on campus. From magic shows and stand up comics to basketball and football games, there's always something to do. There's everything you can think of to do here. Have a group idea you dying to share with the world? Make up a group of your own, get it approved by the president, and make it official.
Bang for the buck I think UNT is worth what it costs but it's so easy to slip into debt or find yourself taking out more student loans than you intended. You have to keep an eagle eye out with the financial aid office.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Well, after every game, win or lose, we sing the UNT song showing pride to our Eagles for just playing. Also, we have a library mall which is basically an open space in the center of the campus where concerts, step shows, and gatherings (where free stuff is given out) happen!
Great for these types of students Any type of student will find something that attracts them to the campus; it's very diverse in terms of things to do. Where the quirkiest, nerdiest, and most athletic inhabit peacefully.
Clubs and Activities Anything from step shows, barbecues, poetry slams, concerts, softball/tennis games, there's literally so much to do here! Like I stated earlier, there's so many clubs; just pick one or make one up!
Greek Life Greek Life is prevalent on campus. There's step shows, initiations, etc that take place for everyone to see. We have a whole strip of fraternity and sorority houses on the outskirts of campus where the brothers and sisters can live. There's also, of course, honor societies that are affiliated with the Greek so there's many ways to participate in those type of organizations.
Campus Safety There are always police cars patrolling the campus. There are portable stations where you can just push a button and a cop car will show up as soon as possible. Every building requires a student ID to use its facilities and a fine is issued if you cannot relinquish your ID when asked to. Oh, and there's a police station right across the street from campus. The campus also constantly provides tips to students about safety through emails. (like walking in groups of five when at night)

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of North Texas in Denton is a very diverse campus and is full of extra curricular oppourtunities. The enviornment sarrounding the campus is very lively, with many things to do when your not studying.
Although tuition continues to rise I believe this is a top notch choice as far as schools in the state of texas.Tips for prospective students Look for all the financial aid possible and as early as possible. There are many scholarship oppoutrunities available through the school but they go very quickly due to the amount of students enrolled. Make sure also to get involved in on campus life such as student government, work study, greek life and numerous on campus events year round.
Academic Rigor Depending of your feild of study your studies can be very time consuming. It will take time and effort in order to succed at UNT.
Dorm Life There are a number of dorms all giving different vibes and satisfaction for different personalities. be sure to do your research before selecting a dorm.
Food and Dining There are cafeterias located all over campus serving a wide variety of foods, sure to satisfy anyone's appetite.
What to do for fun There is no shortage of on campus activities through the semester. There are cookouts, intermueral sports, swim parties, finals parties, concerts and much more. Its hard not to find something to do during the school year.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of North Texas is a wonderful college filled with a huge variety of students and cultures as well! It is a great atmosphere to learn and enhance ones creativity. The art and music scene are incredible and I love being apart of the community!
Tips for prospective students Work hard and be your unique self!
Academic Rigor The classes are very informative and the professors are very engaging. They are always eager to help! They are constantly on their email and reply quickly if you have any homework problems and they are very attentive in class as well.
Dorm Life Ive never lived in the dorms. I always lived in the apartments, which I prefer. However, I have visited the dorms and they seem very clean and have lots of friendly people living there.
Food and Dining The food is great and there are tons of options available!
What to do for fun Check out fry street! There's a great music scene happening almost every night! There are many art shows as well, so the art building is always interesting. There are awesome sculptures all around the campus, and lots of extra curricular activities to participate in! The rec center is incredible and there are lots of intramural teams to join!
Bang for the buck Im coming back to UNT this year to finish up college because I feel like I've gotten more out of my college experience here. As far as my major, they are very thorough when covering the basics and I am always learning something new!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This is going to be my first year back, but I love the music scene the best. Walking through the campus and seeing bands play, whether its a local band, production, or jazz, was really cool. Football games and basketball games were also a lot of fun to attend!
Great for these types of students Art, Design, Music, Theater, any creative type!
Campus Safety I'm a runner. I walk to most of my classes. I have run all over campus at different times during the day and never been bothered. The campus is very safe and the community is very friendly. Its always good to be cautious, but Ive seldom heard of any problems! UNT is almost like a mini Austin!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I have fallen in love with all things Denton and UNT. The campus is open and welcoming, and I can't help but feel at home there. The campus is really culturally diverse in every way.
Tips for prospective students Look up reviews for professors BEFORE you take their classes. Sometimes you can't help who you take a class with, but knowing a little bit about them beforehand always helps.
Be open to meeting new people. Almost every one is really friendly, but keep in mind that they may be nervous or shy too, so it doesn't hurt to make the first move.Academic Rigor Some of the classes can be really difficult and the work load can be insane, but there are also some really easy classes. It really depends on the teacher and their teaching style.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms, but I looked at several before I started there and they are really nice. I have never heard complaints from anyone.
Food and Dining Denton has amazing food and so many choices! The on campus food is actually pretty good, but the real treasures are found on Fry St and Downtown near the square.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do in Denton. It's a very artsy type city. There are art galleries, movie theaters, shopping, an amazing water park that's pretty cheap, amazing food, and a million other things to see. It's really a wonderful city.
Bang for the buck The tuition seems expensive, but it's still the cheapest in the state. I have always felt like I'm getting my moneys worth.
Campus Safety The campus police are always around and super helpful. They have jumped my car several times when the battery died. They usually answer on the first few rings and are really quick to respond.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor I was only here for a year but the classes weren't too hard.
Dorm Life The dorms are better than some other colleges I've seen. I stayed in Maple and I loved it. The newer ones are nice but more expensive but overall great experience.
Food and Dining On campus food was good but what's better are the places right around campus. Kat's Burgers, Central Grill, and there a drive-thru chinese food place across the street from these.
Great for these types of students Music, Fashion Design, Computer Science, any type of Arts majors this is a great school with great and very competitive programs.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences There is a large student population, which provides a great opportunity to meet diverse people and join diverse organizations. The campus is in a small town, with a great transportation system, just 40 minutes from Dallas and Fort Worth. Professors take the time to get to know you.
Tips for prospective students Don't go home a lot. Spending too much time at home or with high school friends takes away from the college experience.
Academic Rigor The classes are pretty easy and the admission standards are very low.
Dorm Life Dorm life is amazing and the dorms themselves are beautiful. Each dorm has a different personality or character.
Food and Dining The dorms have cafeterias, and cafeteria food is gross. But there are a lot of fast food restaurants and the student union and student cafes are pretty good.
What to do for fun My friends and I like to go to the parks, shopping, and wondering around the square.
Bang for the buck The school is relatively cheap, maybe even under-priced. You will definitely get bang for your buck.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a Beth Marie's ice cream shop on campus and in town square and they carry the most unusual flavors. GLAD puts on a drag fashion show once a semester which the entire student body loves.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNT is an extremely diverse university. There are many ways to get involved, like joining groups and organizations that fit your interests. UNT has a big and beautiful campus.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you have all of the necessary information needed to apply and get financial aid well before the deadline. Get involved and meet new people, it will change your entire college experience.
Academic Rigor Teachers don't make the classwork so difficult that no one can pass, but not so easy that everyone passes with flying colors. You have to work a little to get the grade you want, which is how I think college should be anyway.
Dorm Life Good not much supervision. Security was ok but could be better. Quiet hours are taken way too seriously in some places.
Food and Dining Lots of variety between cafeterias, but after a while it gets redundant. Lots of access except for closing early on Fridays. Also, it's nice to have a option to eat at the Union instead of a cafeteria
What to do for fun At first there are a lot of activities on campus to meet people but after a while you're on your own to find things and get involved.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of North Texas is a great school for networking. It is not that far from home for me, but far enough. A lot of great memories and opportunities are created at this university.
Tips for prospective students Be dilligent when it comes to your work in class. Start the way you want to finish. Stay away from the Student Union when there is a takeover, especially if you have class at that time.
Dorm Life The dorm life is not that bad. I wouldn't recommend staying in Crumley because there is a community bathroom. It has its advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantage is you do not have to clean it yourself, but you have to leave your room and use a code just to use the bathroom.
Food and Dining Having a meal plan is really a great advantage. You're able to eat in all the food halls as many times a day as you want (as long as they're open). There are variety of foods in each hall. Bruce was my favorite to go for lunch.
What to do for fun You can go to the recreation center to workout or socialize and watch your friends play basketball. There are different group exercise classes available at different times. There are intramural teams that play different sports, all you have to do is sign up with a team. There events that take place on and off campus that you can attend also.
Clubs and Activities There are so many student organizations on campus that you can get involved in. All you have to do is find which one you're interested in and pay your dues to be apart.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences So far my experience has been a pleasant one to say the least. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and very understanding. Working advisers and other campus workers are also informative encouraging, and conveniently accessible.
Tips for prospective students Definately put this school at the top of your list I am sure you will not be disappointed. Go in, sit down with an adviser they are all skilled at what they do and highly informative! Help them help you by having your transcripts in hand.
Academic Rigor UNT is a challenge you must study and work for your goal. This is not a place for lazy slacking students. While fun to be a part of this university, they do not just give out free degrees everything you get you must earn.
Dorm Life I can't say much about their dorms, I never lived in one. All units seemed to be well kept and clean. I have heard great things about on campus living.
Food and Dining There are so many options in and around campus for food. Excellent choices for a college. There is so much diversity you may be able to try something new every day of your college career.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love it here! Most of the students are really open-minded about everything which was a huge deciding factor for me. Also, the campus is fairly small, so I feel like everything is just that much closer together.
Tips for prospective students People always say, Don't take an 8am but for real, don't take one. You won't wake up in time. And also, you can walk across campus in 10 minutes, but only if you speed walk so remember that when registering for classes.
Academic Rigor If you take easy classes, you're gonna get easy classes. Register for something that might challenge you.
Dorm Life It's a dorm. It's fun at times, but miserable at others.
Food and Dining Bruce and Victory have the best foods. Hands down.
What to do for fun A walk around the campus, or even walking down to the square. The square at night is easily one of the most beautiful places in Denton.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences IF YOU'RE A PARENT, FUTURE STUDENT. (particularly in music)
Tips for prospective students This is a beautiful school, I don't go here yet, but this IS my dream college. The focus IS music, so if you plan on majoring in something else know that program might not be very strong as it is in music. Music is BIG here, not just at UNT, but through the entire town of Denton.
Academic Rigor Some of the students complain about the teachers, but every teacher I have met has been overly nice to me and wanted me to come to their school. The only thing about academics that I worry about is the classes that contain 400 or 500 students.
Dorm Life I went on a tour, and went into a few campus halls, and they are alright, but honestly, it IS intended on the idea to house 40,000 students. The dorms are tiny and sharing a bathroom with another person isn't that great, but hey, it DOES get the job done. Don't stay in an economy hall.
Food and Dining I mean holy cow there are so many cafeterias with buffet styled food. You will never go hungry. Not only that but the restaurants at Denton are really cool. Jazz bars, grills, etc, not to mention regular restaurants like Chick-fil-a, taco bell, and stuff like that. You (or the one you're sending off to college) will NEVER get hungry.
What to do for fun If you're a music student you're going to have a blast. There are a few music stores, pawn shops, and music students to take up all the time that you are NOT in college. You will almost NEVER run out of things to do.
Bang for the buck I live out of state, and I have to pay $18,000 a semester, and I will be taking out student loans most definitely. I think in the end, even though I will be in debt until I am 90, I will be more happy because I will find the job that I actually want instead of a crappy job if I never went to college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The albino squirrel is a little joke that goes on campus, there is even a house for the squirrel. Even though the squirrel is non existent, it still gets a few laughs from new students and parents.
Great for these types of students MUSIC STUDENTS.
Like I said, if you're a music student, this is your place!Campus Safety The parking SUCKS, this is why I'm giving it 4 stars. And the reason it sucks is because I parked in the wrong spot for a few minutes and I got ticketed $35. If you visit the school GO TO THE PARKING GARAGE OFFICE FIRST TO GET A VISITORS PERMIT.
HOWEVER......
There are SO many police officers on campus, and there are even more on campus during the night. You'll see them riding bikes, in police cars, and just walking around. I never worry about anything bad happening because they are ALWAYS there.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Tips for prospective students I think this a great school to go to. It has it's specialties and majors that it is known for, but overall it does a good job through all the majors. There are a lot of ways to get involved as well.
Academic Rigor Compared to my other school, UNT is much more challenging. Although the classes are hard, the teachers are great at preparing you for them. It challenges you, but not to the point that it is stressful.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really great if you are a freshman. It helps you to stay connected with the school. I like it because you are close to the campus if you have to go to the campus for any reason.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of North Texas is a great liberal arts school for those who are perhaps a bit off-kilter. There are areas of study and organizations for every interest you may have. I do believe that I'm receiving a quality education (especially for the price!), and wouldn't trade my college career for anything.
Tips for prospective students Make sure your stay on top of your financial aid, and be aware of early registration deadlines! There's nothing worse than realizing you can't pay for school when it's too late, or finding out that all the classes you want/need are full.
Academic Rigor I am an art student, and I can easily say that classes are definitely not easy. They challenge you and push you to try things you normally aren't comfortable with, and in the end it grows you into a better artist.
Dorm Life DID NOT LIKE. Try to find friends that are involved/enjoy the same kinds of things you do. Don't go home every weekend. Try to make your dorm homey! Also don't forget that you only HAVE to live there one year.
Food and Dining The dining halls seem to constantly be changing, but the food wasn't terrible my freshman year. It's not too hard to eat healthy, what with the fruits, vegetables, and salad bars. The snacks and fried foods are tempting but honestly I don't think they're even worth eating!
What to do for fun Well, I got involved in a Christian organization called The Navigators, and loved hanging out with them. We did all kinds of activities. This type of organization obviously isn't for everybody but there literally ARE organizations for EVERYBODY! So find something you're interested in and make a few buddies. Go out to eat, get coffee with friends, try not to exclude yourself from groups.
Bang for the buck I feel like I've received a quality education at an affordable price.
Great for these types of students Artistic, Creative, Off-beat
Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe walking around on campus during the evening, but please be constantly aware of your surroundings. There are help monoliths spattered around campus. I have only heard of people getting assaulted on the northern outskirts of campus, so just be careful! Maybe the buddy system is a good idea after all.

Tips for prospective students Use all the services of the university to your advantage they can help you out greatly.
Academic Rigor I wouldn't say it is one of the hardest schools but it isn't easy either.
Dorm Life I never actually lived in a dorm here so im not an expert. From what I have heard the dorm life is average though.
Food and Dining They have many choices of food on campus from chick fil a, to taco bell, and they also have some healthier options in some of the dorm dinning halls, which they have 3 of.
What to do for fun Most will say if you are over 21, you should go to Fry St. Fry St is like a mini 6th St from Austin. If you are not 21 the university usually holds tons of events that can be fun and they are on campus.
Bang for the buck UNT isn't too expensive compared to other colleges of its size in TX, and as they continue to grow and get recognized your degree will look even more worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I havent heard of any unusal traditions yet...
Great for these types of students This school is great for Art and Music students as well as Hospitality students. They also have a increasing business program that is starting to get recognized.
Clubs and Activities UNT has a great selections of clubs to join and that usually consist of alot of activites, even if you arent in a club they have a great selections of activities to choose from.
Greek Life They have an average Greek Life. Not too crazy.
Campus Safety While attending there have been no crazy incidents, that completely scare the crap out of me. But there are some parts like many college's where you don't want to be walking around campus alone at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of North Texas takes its Mean Green slogan seriously. Its new football stadium was named a LEED facility, they have installed three wind turbines to help conserve resources, and their new athletic facilities are awesome. It's big enough that you get a diverse experience, but small enough to have that home town feel to it. The best of both worlds.
Tips for prospective students College is a lot harder than you expect. It is a lot of reading and thinking on your own. UNT has excellent resources to help with tutoring and class assignments. Just don't be afraid to admit you need help!
Academic Rigor Classes are tough. Participate in class, though, and you will find the discussions will help. As long as you keep up and don't skip class, you will learn a lot!
Dorm Life Excellent dorm life. I wasn't prepared for how much I would miss home, but get involved in groups, especially study groups. And I found that getting out of my room and doing something made it easier. There's always something going on.
Food and Dining Lots of variety around campus besides the different school choices. The school has a commitment to healthy food choices, too.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I read in the North Texas Daily newspaper that it a national tree campus, because of that I never mind walking to class and admiring all of the beautiful trees. There are recycle bins everywhere, the campus is very recycle friendly, with the Recreation Center's power running off of the use of exercise equipment and the new Business Building being built from older buildings. Overall, not only is the campus color green but the campus is very environmentally green as well, and that is one thing I love about it.
Tips for prospective students One tip I have for students is to get involved from the start, but do not overload yourself socially so that you are unable to do school work. I have noticed that the school has a lot of commuters which can make it hard to find friends. However, if you start from the beginning having a social life is very important in getting through this new change in your life.
Academic Rigor I find that the quality of your professor is what makes or breaks your class. Ratemyprofessor.com has become my favorite website. One thing I do love about this school is that the classes tend to not be too big and that means I get a lot more individual attention from my professors.
Dorm Life I live in West Hall. I have not had any bad experiences in my dorm. My has been awesome from the start. We both have our separate friends but live together wonderfully. I have community bathroom which has its ups and downs. A few ups are that it gets cleaned every week day, I don't have to pay for toilet paper, and it never too busy. A few downs are that people clog up the sinks and can be inconsiderate about their messes made. Overall the rooms are spacious and I have enjoyed living here for my first year of college.
Food and Dining I am on the meal plan and it is nice to have the cereal buffets, but other than that with it nearing the end of the year look forward to not eating at the same places with the same food everyday. Maple cafeteria is vegan friendly and I find it always has the freshest fruits and vegetables. Living in the dorm has limited me to what I can cook, and next year I plan on cooking for myself more. But if you don't like to cook the foods around Denton are amazing. There are a lot of unique restaurants, I work at one off of the downtown square and it has some of the best food I have ever tasted.
What to do for fun For fun I love going to the movies, on Thursday it is discounted for college students. Also, like I said before there are a lot of awesome restaurants. My favorite is called Mr. Chopstix, it has the best Asian food hands down. Denton is widely known for its music. There re constantly different shows and people playing at local bars. There are also a few music festivals including South by thirty-five and the Jazz festival. Not to mention there are constantly people playing music around campus, with UNT known for its music department. For shoppers, there are tons of great thrift stores with all kinds of different vintage things to see.
Bang for the buck It is easy to live cheaply in Denton. For one there are lots of events constantly offering free food around campus. But also with all the thrift stores people can keep their shopping habits for a cheaper price.
Great for these types of students UNT is great for people who care for the environment like I do. It is easy to recycle, and shopping at thrift stores to reuse clothing but still keep in style is easy. Also there are a lot of vegetarian friendly restaurants and even a vegan friendly on campus cafeteria.
Clubs and Activities There are a few great parks, so if you like to sit outside, there are lot of beautiful places. My friends and I often get Frozen Yogurt and then go to a park to eat it.
Campus Safety I feel safe walking on campus. I have a few night classes so sometimes I have to walk back form class kind of late and I never feel in danger. I see the campus police all over. Besides, if anything does happen UNT is quick to post and warn us.

Tips for prospective students Get involved! Community service, clubs, activities, and leadership positions are the elements that will set you apart from the rest of your graduating class.
Academic Rigor Average University level I suppose. Not too bad.
Dorm Life I HATE dorm life! The RA's are horrible and don't do anything. (That is just my experience, and a few other people's too).
Food and Dining The food taste decent. Kerr gives people the runs. I hate the price that I pay for food. The cafeteria's are closed on the weekends and the good one's close at 7pm.
What to do for fun There are things to do... Well mostly if you get involved in things.

Academic Rigor unt has great teachers. the coarses all require a lot of focus and commitment to studying outside of class.
Dorm Life my dorm experience was not that great, because i lived in maple and it isn't the best living situation. there are many new dorms that are much nicer and i know people that love it there. they cost a little extra but it is worth it. dorm life gives you a chance to be around your peers, and meet new people.
Food and Dining the food on campus is pretty good, depending on which cafeteria you eat at. the best part is the flex dollars you get with your meal plan, you can use them to eat at taco bell, or any other food places on campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a pre-major, it's one rude awakening between what I thought I knew, what I actually know and what I didn't know when it comes to classes or what I learned at UNT. I definitely learned a lot from my classes from what I originally knew and the teachers are very reasonable when it comes getting a better understand of whatever class you take while at UNT. I also learned about the basics of being on my own and figuring out how to balance myself financially. At first, it may seem kinda scary when it comes to dealing with school by yourself but for me, I got the hang of it quickly. UNT isn't just an interesting place when it comes to school spirit but an actual place of learning.
Am enjoying being here I'm not exactly a people person but despite the odds, I enjoy UNT. I would go into detail about the school spirit when it comes to sporting events but let's just say it's full of green madness & very fun to attend. The RA's, teachers are mostly friendly & the students vary when it comes to personality and interest.
Tips for prospective students Just because college is the pathway into freedom and partying doesn't mean that you should sacrifice studying or doing a project for a moment with friends or partying every weekend yet all it takes is a balance of time management. Depending on your financial circumstances, don't blow off the money you get for certain things (clothes, expensive things, etc.) since Housing payments, school supplies and other important personal things are very important to deal with financially outside financial aid in college. Sleep is one the best things to do in the world yet late nights during high school can pay off when you're studying or dealing with a project last minute ( right up my alley ) so sleep can make or break you when it comes to school work.
Great for these types of students To be honest, UNT is perfect for all kinds of students. Depending on what you want to major in, there's room for everybody and UNT honestly has majority of the majors that exist in college. UNT is great for those that love music or being in the band since the band rules and UNT takes music majors seriously. If you love science, I believe a good amount of students within UNT is in any science or medical majors. If you love art, the art program is considered one of the best in the state and since I'm pursuing an art major too, I'm serious when I say it's competitive just like other majors and worth your experience in any art majors. Even if you're not sure what to do in life, there's plenty of students going through the same light by going Undeclared until you know what you want to do. To be honestly, I've even seen people involved with the military, with kids and are older than the average 16-27 year old college students at UNT too so there's no reason for not having room at UNT.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is my first year at UNT, and I am even surprised as to how much I've learned just over this first semester.
Am enjoying being here The first couple of months were kind of hard, and it took a lot of getting used to, but because I met some really cool people and took time to go out and do things on campus it has really become my second home.
Bang for the buck UNT has many scholarships and thanks to Cappex you have the ability to dive into all of those opportunities.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest really trying to get into and understand the culture at UNT rather than compare it to other big name schools. Always go to the football games even if we start losing, because the last game this year was awesome! Get into some kind of group... this year i decided to do college marching band and it was pretty interesting, and although it does take a lot of time and effort, I made some really good friends and got to experience UNT in a way that I know a lot of my classmates haven't yet.
Great for these types of students If you are an artsy person who loves music, film or anything along those lines, this is a really good school for you. If you love hole in the wall kind of places there are plenty of restaurants and clubs and such that you'd enjoy. This campus is full of hipsters and non-hipsters, but its always got a bit of a chill vibe to it with a bit of silliness mixed in :)

Tips for prospective students Apply for the honors hall...housing looks great.

Will enjoy being here The campus is really pretty, plus the dorm rooms were really nice. The rooms were small, but I think that applies to just about every college.
Bang for the buck I would love to go here for a college education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors I have had thus far really know their stuff, and most even make it fun as well. I'm and art Major with a Japanese minor, and so far in my 3 semesters here I have learned a great deal and have definitely improved in my art. Not to mention all the other pieces of knowledge I pick up in my cores :P
Am enjoying being here The campus is great, and has everything you need right near campus. Denton Square isn't to far either. The professors are usually amazing, knowledgeable and fun. There's also plenty of campus groups to entertain yourself with :D
Bang for the buck This is one of the cheaper schools in Texas but the programs don't suffer for it. We have the best music school, our art school is fantastic, and I've never heard any complaints about other schools in the University. Not to mention you can get everywhere on campus and around the city for free using the DCTA which students get to ride for free. The campus itself is small enough you can get around on foot if you don't feel like taking the bus. So no real need for a car and gas.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up so you can join the UNT Family :D
Great for these types of students Art and Music students will do well here. I've also heard good things about the History, Journalism, and RTF schools.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are great, but just as many are horrible. I've had an even mix of boring and rude teachers who don't help you and nice, funny, eager to help and who know how to teach a class. Even if you do have a bad teacher, you can still get by. The university has great programs that help struggling students.
Am enjoying being here It's a huge school and I feel very anonymous here. I haven't joined any clubs and my classrooms are huge. So in my third semester here, I haven't really made any friends, and that's hard to take when you're away from home. The people here are very nice. I suppose it's the culture here.
Bang for the buck Tuition has gone up this year, but not very much. The school tried very hard to cut costs elsewhere to keep from the tuition from skyrocketing. If I'm correct, it costs about $8,500 a year for tuition and fees. It's not the cheapest school, but it provides a lot of variety in school, clubs and even people.
Tips for prospective students Try to be outgoing. The school has 35,000+ people so it's really easy to be anonymous. Join a club and stick with it, otherwise you don't meet new people and if you're away from home, it's not fun. Choose your teachers wisely. Use ratemyprofessor.com religiously. Even if you can't avoid a bad teacher, you can at least know what to expect and it'll be less frustrating.
Great for these types of students Outgoing and social students would definitely like it here because most everyone is friendly and there is a huge variety of students. Other than that, it really is good for everybody. The school is really flexible and relaxed.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Both my aunt and cousin graduated from UNT, and they rave over how great of an education they got while attending this university. I really believe I will get a great education here.
Will enjoy being here Everybody I've talked to in admissions are extremely nice, so if everybody are as nice as them - along with all the opportunities - there's no way I couldn't enjoy being here.
Bang for the buck UNT isn't insanely pricey like other colleges and along with student aid, it's affordable.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are pretty motivated and good at teaching, for the most part. As with any other school you occasionally get a bad teacher, but Rate My Professor helps a lot with avoiding that. Other than that, the teachers here are pretty fantastic and I am learning a LOT.
Am enjoying being here The social aspects of UNT are my absolute favorite part of this university. There is a LOT of diversity in the types of people here, so you definitely learn more about the spectrum of people in the world, and have opportunities to make many friends. I love the community here: Everyone is very accepting/open, everyone likes to make new friends and work together on schoolwork, there are rarely stealing/crime problems... I could go on and on and on. COME TO THIS SCHOOL. It's amazing.
Bang for the buck UNT is a pretty cost-effective college. While being huge in size and population, it is still cheap to attend, and has great teachers. It is definitely the underdog in the giant pool of universities in Texas, but in my opinion, it's better than most. Also, the meal-plan is amazing because you can have an unlimited amount of meals all week long from 7am to 2am (for midnight snacks) on weekdays, and 7am to 8pm on weekends, which I love.
Tips for prospective students My tip is that you should definitely take a tour of the beautiful campus before coming here and see the fantastic facilities we have for all majors. Come to UNT with an open mind, willing to learn and grow as both a person and as a student.
Great for these types of students UNT is especially great for music and other students of the arts, being that this university is really well known for its music program. Now, don't be discouraged if you're another major though. I'm a business major and the business teachers here are great, AND we just got a brand new building this year with fantastic accommodations.

Bang for the buck You defiantly get the bang for your buck. Great rooms & great food. Plus there is always an event going on & pretty much all of them are FREE! UNT loves giving out free food & t-shirts.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am majoring in Pre-Law so I looked up/researched the professors by using the internet or asking current students and they only had good things to say. And the rate of people that graduate and get successful careers afterward is high.
Will enjoy being here I hear they have an excellent music program that gives free concerts. They also have over 300 clubs so there's something for everybody. Also their football team is great! School spirit is top notch at this school.
Bang for the buck I consider it an average tuition (I'm out of state) but with the scholarships they offer it's going to be a lot lower. It's worth whatever the cost. There's so much to offer in this school and it's in such a great location.
Tips for prospective students Research. Make sure you're making the right choice for whatever college you're going to. I'm transferring to UNT because I made the wrong first choice.
Great for these types of students Anybody interested in music- this school is famous for their music program.
People in the military- They have great ROTC programs and a lot of good things for veterans.
Transfer students- It's number one in Texas and number four in the country for transfer students.Login to rate or flag the reviews
