    Am learning a lot

I've only been here a year but in all of my classes I felt that the professors used innovative ways to teach us the material. They made us want to learn about the subjects they were teaching about, even in the GE classes that were unrelated to my major.

    Am enjoying being here

Living on campus is great, my hall always had fun activities going on and it was really easy to become involved. There are so many different clubs and organizations that everyone can find something to join.

    Bang for the buck

For a public school I feel that I am receiving an excellent education. Eau Claire is constantly being ranked in national college lists. You also don't have to pay for books which is a huge plus.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus in the spring/summer and fall so you get a feel for how walking across the bridge and up the hill are in different weather.
Apply early so you can get better pickings on the dorm buildings
Make sure you have taken all of the required high school courses

Great for these types of students

I feel that just about anyone could fit in a Eau Claire, it is a bigger campus population wise but even in my 200 plus student sized classes I never had trouble talking to my professors if I had a problem. The nice thing about there being so many people is that there is a mixture of everything.

For a smaller university, UWEC offers a really wide range of classes. You can study anatomy, geology, and modern dance all in one day if you want. Professors are very passionate and really go out of their way to make sure students understand material. You will write a lot of papers (EC is known for it) but the practice and feedback is very beneficial. Nursing program is extremely competitive... beware if you're considering that as your major.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus is BEAUTIFUL, especially in fall and spring. Freshmen have a great view of the Chippewa River from the dorms! Weekends are very eventful and parties are plentiful. Great place for active people... lots of hiking/biking trails, workout facilities, floating down the river, etc...

    Bang for the buck

College is never cheap, but costs are very reasonable (compare to UW-Madison) for the quality of education and the college experience you will receive. Lots of financial aid is available if you take the time to apply for it.

    Tips for prospective students

    - If living in dorms, choose Towers! (largest dorm, very easy to meet people, the hub of on-campus living)
    - Visit the campus when classes are in session... it makes a huge difference!
    - You WILL make friends and you WILL have the time of your life! Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new... chances are you'll be glad you did.

Great for these types of students

    - Athletes (lots of intramurals and sports clubs) /active people!
    - Musicians... music program is great and there are loads of performances to attend/participate in
    - People who are outgoing and like to party
    - People who want an academic challenge without the pressure of a Big Ten school

    Am learning a lot

I'm halfway through my sophomore year here at Eau Claire, and I can definitely say that I have learned a lot, both in class and at college itself. The campus environment is great for learning experiences, these experiences have stuck with me and will continue to be used in my studies in becoming a physical therapist someday. I know that these experiences I have gained will make me a better person in the world after attending this liberal arts school. If there was ever a time I didn't quite understand something in class, I could be confident that I could ask my questions in class or outside of class with the professor and that they would do their best to find a way for me to understand the content of the class more clearly.

    Am enjoying being here

As I had mentioned before, the campus environment is great for learning experiences both in class and outside of class. I have met a lot of my friends through the classes I have taken, in the dorms, and also in the extracurricular activities that I participate in. It is easy to make friends here, and the best thing about it is that I am sure I will run into them again sometime soon, since Eau Claire isn't as big as schools like UW-Madison, but it's also not too small either.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that this is one area in which Eau Claire could improve on. Eau Claire is still one of the public universities that are still relatively affordable for middle-class families. Some of the facilities here on campus could use some revamping for modern-aged students to feel a little more comfortable at this campus with has a very long, as well as a, good reputation.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to spend some time planning on which classes you need and want to take in order to be certain that you will graduate on time and not later than what you expected. This will save you and/or your parents big bucks if you have a plan for your road to success here at Eau Claire. Each student is also assigned to an advisor for course counseling. The advisors are usually helpful, but don't rely on them to know if you're on the right track for graduation and beyond.

Great for these types of students

Eau Claire is a liberal arts school, great for students who would like to be more well-rounded in various areas of education and not solely on their specific major. This school is also great for students who do not yet know what they would like to major in. This is also a good school for students looking to go into either business, kinesiology, education, nursing, arts, and music.

I not only do I enjoy going to each class that I have taken at UW-EC, but I also enjoy learning from and talking to the professors. Every professor that I have even simply talked to is very enthusiastic with their subject. If a question is asked that the professor does not know, he or she will find someone who does know the answer, and will relay the message for you. In every class, I find that I want to learn more.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to school in Eau Claire. The school itself is great, but so is the city of Eau Claire. Every year it is rated as one of the safest places to live in the nation. The campus is gorgeous. It has sprawling, open areas and Putnam Park right in the middle of everything, which is a nature area owned by the college. Also, its so easy to make friends here. Its a fun, beautiful place to be.

    Bang for the buck

The level of education at UW-EC is outstanding, especially when compared to other schools in the University of Wisconsin system such as Madison, La Crosse, or Milwaukee.

    Tips for prospective students

If you live on campus, go for towers. Its an awesome place, just to hang out with friends.
If you're looking for an off campus place to live, there are tons of affordable apartments or efficiencies.
The student center has wonderful food, make sure to hit that up.
The University also offers a huge range of classes. There is something for everyone here.

Great for these types of students

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire is a great school for anyone who wants to get a great education in a great city.

UWEC is undoubetdly a good school. The professors are always willing to help you, and they want students to stop by the office to ask for help or even just to chat with them a little. The class sizes are a good size, as compared to the large lecture halls in larger schools like Madison. Because of the small class sizes, professors are able to know and help students better. By my first week, all my professors knew my name! The professors themselves have dedication towards teaching, and truly know what they are talking about.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is really friendly at UWEC. Because of the small size, it is easier to build connections with people - especially if you work on campus where you interact with many students on a daily basis. The campus itself is really beautiful, and the RAs in the dorms are always looking for fun activities for the floors to do so that college can be a richer experience for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

UWEC is definitely one of the cheaper schools out there. The education can be comparable to larger schools like Madison, and it is consistently ranked amongst the top Mid-west schools annually. Despite this, the cost for tuition is only around $4,500 a semester for in-state, and around $8,000 for out-of-state as compared to the $10,000+ costs per semester for other larger universities or private schools.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and make sure to check out all the different scholarship options. Submitting your FAFSA application early is always a good choice. The application process for UWEC is rather seamless, and is actually pretty easy provided that potential students don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute. Make sure references listed are recent ones, and people that will be able to speak about you in a good light - in a rather objective manner.

Great for these types of students

UWEC would be a great option for students who want more 1-on-1 interaction with professors, and prefer a smaller University. It is also an ideal school for those who wish to have a balanced blend between social and academics, and is willing to put forth effort. Provided that effort is put forth, having a fun time while maintaining a decent GPA shouldn't be too hard. It's an A+ school for B students.

I am majoring in French and Psychology, and the professors in my departments are wonderful, especially in psychology. In general, professors and advisers are eager to help and UWEC is truly a teaching, not research, college, so the professors are really there for you. I had a bad professor or two, but they were definitely the exception, not the rule.

    Am enjoying being here

Unfortunately, there is a lot of drinking at UWEC and I felt extremely uncomfortable with the partying culture. There are many many things to do besides drink, but I found my peers opted out of more productive activities to drink.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universities, UWEC is a very high quality institution for the price (for my fellow Minnesotans- it's like getting U of MN quality for Mankato prices!)

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to approach professors because they genuinely care and want to help. Also, a more general tip, check your email every day because things like class cancellations and tuition bills are sent via email and you do not want to miss them!

Great for these types of students

UWEC is a great university for music and education, but also those who are diligent enough to work in an environment with lots of distractions!

uwec is a really nice place to go to school. eau caire is a lovely town with a lot to do outdoors when it's nice out. the university offers many ways to get involved on campus and is very helpful with any questions you may have about your schooling.

    Tips for prospective students

take a tour! there's no better way to see if a school is for you than to go and look for yourself. and ask questions when you do. we have a huge hill here that you'll be using every day, so come and see if you're up for the challenge!

    Academic Rigor

in my experience so far, academics are very manageable as long as you stay on top of your work.

    Dorm Life

i've been pleased with the dorm life. i live in towers north and it's a nice place to be, it's quite busy and loud on weekends however. maybe you will like that though. the dorm life is for some people and not for others, but it is a nice way to get to know people.

    Food and Dining

the food here is good in my opinion. we have a lot of options and the most common meal plan is an all-you-can eat. on top of that we are provided a little over a hundred dollars to spend at the sub shops, frozen yogurt place, coffee shop, taco bell, or the on-campus convenience store.

    What to do for fun

there are a lot of things to do for fun! on campus you can go to the cabin which i highly recommend. there local bands as well as more well known ones traveling the country play there each friday and saturday night. it's a perfect place to go for a more relaxing night. free movies are also played for students in our on-campus movie theater. we have bowling, air hockey, and pool tables as well. also, we have a dance club here on campus called higherground featuring a dj on friday and saturday nights. off-campus there are a lot of places to go as well. there is a budget theater downtown which only charges $3 for a movie. there is a mall very nearby as well as another movie theater. in the summer there is a farmer's market downtown and for the adventurous types there is tubing on the great chippewa river.

I really enjoy attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The school is filled with intelligent professors that love what they do. Eau Claire is a joyful and welcoming community with beauty surrounding the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend to use the online book system to order your books so that you don't have to stand in line for hours to pick up your books.

    Academic Rigor

I have learned a lot by attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I have opened my eyes to many new experiences and learned many new perspectives.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is great! My Resident Advisor was so lovely and as a wing we did all sorts of fun activities together. Also, living in the dorms allowed me to make so many friends, whom I keep in touch with today.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food was not the best quality but did have a wide variety of choices. The food was always fresh and there was always lots of it. The eating space was always clean, and the workers were so friendly.

    What to do for fun

In Eau Claire, there are many things to do for fun. In the Summer, many people like to float down the Chippewa River. Also, during the school year there are many shows on campus that brighten our horizon to different cultures. On Friday nights there are live bands that play on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The room and board meal plan is a little pricey for me. This is because I know that in 16 weeks I do not eat more than $1,500 dollars worth of food.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual tradition on campus is sticking gum on the gum tree behind Murray.

Great for these types of students

Eau Claire is a great school for students who don't want to go to a huge school where there are tons of people. Even though there are 10,000 students at Eau Claire, I feel like I am a person, not a number.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs that you can join, and they really get you involved with the university and the community.

    Greek Life

I have no experience with this matter.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe all the time because there are police everywhere and emergency safety stations all around campus.

    Am learning a lot

I think this university does a great job of teaching. I have learned a lot in all of the classes that I have had so far and typically enjoy going to them. The professors are great and are very helpful when I need help with someone.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. The layout is very nice, and there are plenty of places to go to just be out in nature. The bike trail is nearby as well, so there is definitely something for everyone to do.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition here isn't too bad. It did go up a bit, but that was to help fund our new student center here on campus. The food isn't too bad either, so it isn't a waste of the money you pay for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come for a campus visit; the only way you'll know if you will like it here or not is to come see for yourself. Make friends. College isn't any fun unless you have people you can have a good time with. Don't get too caught up with impressing people; people will come to you to be your friend as long as you are open and friendly to them. Lastly, just have fun. Don't stress yourself out by worrying about grades or getting a job. Sure, those things are important, but stressing out isn't going to help out with either situation. I have learned that it is best to just relax and allow things to play out as they are supposed to.

Great for these types of students

    Will enjoy being here

I loved visiting campus! it has all the cute little quirks of a small town university but is large enough to offer you almost any opportunity imaginable. Plus it was voted Wisconsin's most beautiful campus and i have to say it's true!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universitys the tuition and room & board rates are on the lower end or comparable with all of the other public university's i looked at.

Heck yes. Every single one of my professors makes sure that we know exactly what we need to when we walk out the door at the end of the semester.

    Am enjoying being here

At this point, I don't know if there's any other school I would consider. Of course, being from Eau Claire originally, I might be biased, but now that I've gotten to knowing professors, using the library, taking advantage of all the facilities at my disposal--I've come to the conclusion that this college is probably where I'll be staying.

    Bang for the buck

With inflated tuition costs, it's hard to say exactly what's a bargain and what isn't. But all my above stuff should give you a good idea.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the library. Don't be afraid to explore every inch of every shelf, request things from other libraries, ask someone how to use the microfilm machines, or use Interlibrary loan to get a book that isn't available within the UW system. You'll find that it's not just a place to do research.

Whats nice at Eau Claire is that the class sizes are small, even the larger lecture halls don't have that many students in them which makes an optimal learning environment. Eau Claire also offers a range of courses that are interesting to take whether it be for your major or just a fun class you'd be interested in.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is great. It's nice and small and all in one area. Everything is in walking distance and if it is further away there is a free busing system! I met so many new friends and had a great time my first year. Not to mention, the campus is beautiful. There are many open areas where students lay and study and play games with their friends.

    Bang for the buck

Though it's a public school the staff and information you learn is great. I know college is expensive, but the price isn't that terrible when you consider everything the school has to offer such as the classes, living, transport systems, cafeteria and billiards area.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice is to study hard but still have fun. There are many things to do around campus.
Also, I advise to actually visit the campus to see what it's like and talk to students there to see what they have to say because they will often know more than the brochures have to tell you and will know of the fun places to go and things to do.

Great for these types of students

I think Eau Claire is a place where anyone can come and feel comfortable!

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot. With very few exceptions, the professors here really do care about what they are doing (i.e. teaching), and they do it well.

    Am enjoying being here

I definitely enjoy being here - there is so much to do; watch a film, walk around, hang out near the dorms, play the piano (which is at the basement floor of my dorm), etc.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely - UWEC charges 12-18 credits at the exact same rate; they don't charge by credit, which makes the tuition much cheaper.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit here to see if you like it. Make sure it's a sunny day - I almost didn't go here because it was extremely foggy, rainy, etc. - but it's amazing out here when the weather is nice.

Great for these types of students
