Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much so far at UWM. My art classes are fantastic! The instructors are very knowledgeable in their fields, and push creativity and new thoughts into my head effortlessly. I can't wait to go back!
Am enjoying being here I am definitely enjoying myself at UWM. The campus is the perfect size for me - lots of people on a smaller campus. There's always something to do whether it be hanging out with friends at the Union Grind or exploring the streets of Milwaukee. I think it's great that it is a commuter school - those who choose to live at home are given the option and not required to live in the dorms.
Bang for the buck Any school will be more than most can afford, but compared to other schools the tuition is reasonable for me. The education you receive here is definitely worth the money.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus. See if it is the right size for you. Don't only tour the campus, but have a look at the surrounding areas. You won't spend all of your time on campus, so make sure that there are enough activities for you to do that you'll enjoy. Think about living in the city and see if it's right for you. City-living isn't cut out for everyone. Also check into the commuter life, see if it's for you. Compare prices for driving, taking the bus or living on campus.
Great for these types of students UWM is great for students who want to save money - if you live in the Greater Milwaukee area. It is also a great place for students who enjoy diversity. The lake and parks aren't far at all from campus, so if you enjoy being outdoors UWM is a great place to find it - even within the city!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently enrolled in the College of L&S, so all my classes are breadth requirement courses. I am, however, enjoying every single one of them. All of my professors definitely keep you engaged in the lecture, which is important in a lecture hall of 200+ students. They also genuinely want to see you succeed.
Am enjoying being here I am a commuter student, which kind of sucks. It's not so much that I don't live on campus, but more of the fact that I get stuck in the rush hours. However, I was really nervous about commuting because I didn't think I was going to meet anyone or make friends, but I was wrong. You have a lot of opportunities to meet people, all you have to do is talk to them. There is almost always something going on on-campus. There are a TON of student organizations you can join, which I highly recommend. I personally really enjoy the campus because it's so different than my high school. There are so many different people here to meet and it's not cliquish at all.
Bang for the buck I am only paying the tuition rate, which is somewhere around $8,000. When you pay your student fee, which I think is $200, you get a UPASS. This allows Milwaukee students to ride the buses for free anywhere in Milwaukee, even during Summerfest. We also get free concerts at the end of the week (Pantherfest) which is pretty cool.
Tips for prospective students -Do not put off orientation until the last minute. It's when you schedule your classes and you do not want to get stuck with the last picks.
-Always rent your course books when you have the option.
-Don't get caught up in the fun. Professors don't care if you don't do your homework, but it seriously hurts your grade. You need at least a C to pass a class here, so don't slack off.
-Show up to class. Seriously, you will be so lost if you don't. This isn't high school where you get the homework the next day. And make sure you show up ON TIME. Some of my professors will count tardies as absences. If you have too many absences, it will knock points off your grades.
-Sit in the first few rows of the lecture hall. It sounds dorky, but it helps you pay attention.
-Actually pay attention in your lectures. Some of your professors will not be from America, meaning they have thick accents. If you don't pay attention, you will get lost.
-Take good notes.
-Join student organizations.
-Don't write people off before you get to know them.Great for these types of students This college is great if you are unsure of what you want to major in. They offer an Ed Psych course that runs once a week and it's purpose is to help you select a major. It's great for someone who likes the city and isn't freaked out by crowds of people. It's also decent for commuters.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some of the classes are very fast paced and the information is pounded in your head. Professor to student interaction is limited with larger class sizes. Smaller classes, discussions, and labs are much more beneficial and more conducive to learning.
Am enjoying being here It is okay. The campus is not too overwhelming for a first year student switching school settings, from smaller to larger. My classes are interesting, and the professors seem to be very knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. There is lots to do on campus each day, with events being held constantly every day, every week. Off campus in the nearby neighborhoods there is also much to do and see. Being a commuter student is a bit tougher, as you will spend time going back and forth between campus, and will also not be able to do much activities when you are not there.
Bang for the buck UWM is cheaper than most schools. It is very affordable, especially those that have a limited source of income.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as possible for school. Whether it is $100, or $1000, every little bit helps. Also, be sure to get your information and everything sent in by the deadlines so that you are not feeling like you are behind everyone else.
Great for these types of students Students who like an urban setting will love the campus, as it is near many different places. Campus is only a few blocks from several different restaurants. A few blocks away is the lake, as well as a few parks and beaches.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you manage to get to all of your classes you can really learn a lot about each subject. The benefit of making it to each class is when studying for finals, it will be a lot easier than trying to learn everything last minute.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus and most everyone is friendly and helpful.
Bang for the buck As far as tuition goes, I'd rather not pay 16-17 thousand a year when I could be going to Madison for roughly the same cost :/
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus to make sure it is a good fit for you and research possible majors to see if there are programs here and if they are good ones.
Great for these types of students If you like smaller campuses you'll enjoy it here, it's only 3 blocks. The library is right in the middle and it is pretty easy to make it to all classes (even if they are on opposite sides of campus) within 10 minutes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love ALL of my classes. The teachers are very knowledgable. The best part is that if you are having trouble in your classes. We have free tutoring in the library! Also we have SI's (Supplemental Instruction students) They sit in your classes with you, they already know the material, so when you ask them a question, they reply with a brilliant answer. They can go as in depth as you want and they are free too. I find the harder classes easier to bear with their help. They have hours at least 4 times a week. They are amazing!
Am enjoying being here There is sooo much to do on campus and surrounding campus.
-The union
- theres a theatre that plays discount movies
- at least 20 activities per week
- the adventure center. You can go on trips such as horse back riding, kayaking, fright fest, wall climbing and soo much more!
- The arts and crafts centre has soo many cheap and some free workshops such as henna tattooing, shirt tiedying, open clay. Get a free membership and use their sewing machine and anything and everything in the entire center.
- Two restaurants inside the union the Kenwood inn and the Gasthaus. Great food with games and more.
- Free concerts and bowling in the union bowling alley
- The klosche center get your work out on!! Huge basketball court and track in on the upper level surrounding the bball court. Various types of machines. Cardio and training rooms, Its huge!!
- Our MANY organizations such as sports, sororities, fraternities, Habitat for humanities and MANY other volunteer opportunities.
- Restaurants inside the union. (BK, Taco Bell, various sandwich shoppes, ice cream, Starbucks and the 8Th note Coffee house and more.
- Surrounding restaurants (Noodles, Jimmy Johns and more)Bang for the buck UWM is WAAAAAAY cheaper than other surrounding Universities. Cheap and beautiful! The campus is gorgeous! We have a water fountain running all summer. Well thought out and stylish buildings. We have various free events throughout the year. I definitely am happy I chose to go here!
Tips for prospective students My tips would be to apply for as many scholarships as possible no matter how much they are worth, every little bit helps trust me!! Also apply for FAFSA asap!! Even when you are in school and you got your loans and whatnot. DON'T STOP applying for scholarships. It will help out in the long run.
Great for these types of students UWM is amazing, small campus but a BIG heart. Many students, small campus because we build up, not out. You don't have to walk for 20 min. to get to your next class. When you class is all the way across campus, it shouldn't take more than 10-15 min to get there. We are very artsy despite the fact that we are not an art school. We do have a division for those interested in arts (Peck School of the Arts). We literally have something for everyone! Come check out campus and some of our events! You'll fall in love, I did! Also try to shadow a student before applying, you won't regret it!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are a wide variety of classes offered and a huge list of majors to choose from. I am currently undecided, but creating a diverse schedule is helping me explore my options and decide what I would like to pursue. Advisers and counselors are very helpful and always willing to help make decisions about schedules and classes.
Am enjoying being here Milwaukee has a large student population, but a reasonably small campus located in a safe community. Students receive a free bus pass that can easily take students around the Milwaukee area. Campus offers endless opportunities for things to do. The union provides a recreation center including a table tennis room, pool tables, video games and a bowling alley. The union provides a volunteer center, a cafeteria, fast food restaurants, two coffee shops, an emporium and an arts and crafts center. The library provides a comfortable place to study. There are two restaurants, one in the union and one in the Sandburg dorm area. There are also two laundry rooms in the Sandburg dorm area. Students also receive a gym membership to the Klotsche Center and the gym within the Sandburg dorm area.
Bang for the buck Reasonably priced for an in-state school. Many perks included in the price for schooling. Students receive internet and cable within the dorms as well as a Milwaukee bus pass and Klotsche Center gym membership. Scholarships are offered for outstanding grades and many are offered through the Honors College.
Tips for prospective students Many opportunities to get involved with extra-curricular activities; sports, clubs, volunteer opportunities and honors college. Many options for housing including triple, double and single rooms. Apartments also available through university housing. Dorms are set up in a suite style, providing a lot of privacy. Every two floors share a common area including couches, flat screen television and microwave.
Great for these types of students Great for outgoing students looking for many social and extra curricular opportunities. Honors college helps students stay on track and maintain outstanding grades. Also great for students looking to be close to the city which provides many opportunities for jobs and entertainment.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My first year at UW-Milwaukee was well spent. To my surprise I am actually learning a lot from the courses I had took. In my view, I believe that the English classes have great professors because it is very easy to understand the course although it may be a challenge in other ways.
Am enjoying being here Attending UW-Milwaukee was a great college choice for me. I enjoy the courses presented in this school. What I had noticed about this college is that the students that attend here are really friendly. Also, the counselors are really helpful in answering your questions, helping you pick classes for your intended major and so much more.
Bang for the buck Well as far as the tuition goes, it is a bit high but if you apply for financial aid and is qualified, you'd be just fine. Also, I believe the education is well worth your time and money.
Tips for prospective students My advice to the future students of UW-Milwaukee is that you should be prepared before you attend the school. It's better if you join clubs because you'd make a load of friends. Also, you could set up a tour and come visit the campus before you make your final decision.
Great for these types of students This college is great for students who enjoy diverse cultures and the outdoor.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Freshman classes are very easy like they should be. It is an easy transition from high school to college. It is a big campus and there are a lot of people but class sizes are mostly small.
Am enjoying being here They try to have a lot of activities around campus but if its after 7 and your hungry, you might have a hard time finding food on campus.
Bang for the buck I am out of state so I am paying a lot to go here. I'd say I could probably do better for what I am paying but for in state students, it is a great deal.
Tips for prospective students Go to class or else you will be lost. Also live in the dorms as a freshman. It is a great way to meet people and there is always something going on.
Great for these types of students Any kind. UWM has a very diverse group of students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The UW-Milwaukee campus offers a lot of opportunities for learning...take advantage of everything the campus offers and you won't regret it!
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love UW-Milwaukee! It has everything I wanted in a college...lots of students, which means lots of opportunities to make new friends, a wide variety of degrees to choose from including the arts, and great instructors and advisers. Oh, and I almost forgot, lots of things to do on campus and the surrounding area!
Bang for the buck I think UW-Milwaukee is priced fairly for the quality of education you receive. My only complaint is that they do not seem to offer as many scholarship opportunities as other schools I considered...however, I did receive one scholarship from the school.
Tips for prospective students You definitely must visit the campus before making your decision. Ask a lot of questions, and talk to current students and advisers to make sure that UWM is for you!
Great for these types of students Great for anyone interested in a large student body but in a more compact campus. Also, if you like to explore your surroundings, Milwaukee has a lot to offer and your student ID gets you free bus service too...great for us money-strapped college students!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a freshman at UWM and am majoring in Dance. I can't believe how much I have learned in such a short time from my teachers! All of my dance teachers are well trained and have very impressive performing careers. I have found them to be extremely approachable and friendly. My teachers are not only concerned about how I am doing in their class, but also how my transition into college is going.
Am enjoying being here The high school I attended was typical in that it had the usual groups you would expect to find in a high school setting. What I enjoy about UWM is that everyone in the dance program is caring and supportive of each other. This past semester I made more friends and had more positive experiences than in my whole high school experience. We encourage each other and are happy for one another when performance opportunities arise for anyone in the program.
Bang for the buck I feel that I am receiving an excellent education for the tuition being charged. Since it is a state college, I know that the tuition is kept as low as possible so students can afford to attend.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest that anyone looking to pursue a dance degree should take dance classes from a local studio for a few years before attending the required audition. It was very obvious that the professors conducting the audition were looking for prospective students with previous dance training. Scholarships were awarded at the first three auditions held in October, February, and April. The last audition was held in June and students were still admitted to the program but scholarship money had already been used up.
Great for these types of students UWM is a great place for students who like living in an urban setting. The city of Milwaukee offers many sports activities and cultural events to attend. It is also a great place for students on a limited budget since the tuition is reasonable. Finally, it is just large enough but not an overwhelming campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of Milwaukee Wisconsin is a very diverse and fast-paced environment. This college is for you if you're outgoing and willing to learn from some of the best instructors.
Tips for prospective students Students make sure you save enough before you come to University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Don't be afraid to join organizations and use the resources provided here.
Academic Rigor All classes are easy to pass if you attend all class, take notes, do your homework, and study!
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms, but I have visited them. All of the dorms have been renovated, and are up to date to live in them. There are lounge areas in each floor for students living on that floor. Some dorms have kitchens, and some do not.
Food and Dining I have tried the food at Sandburg Hall, and I find that there are different varieties of food that I enjoy.
What to do for fun There are a lot of free classes that you can find online or brochures that will be sent out on mail. Use your free time to take free classes that consist of: crafts, sewing, yoga, palates, etc. The rec room is a neat place to hang out with friends! They have tons of pool tables, a bowling alley, games to play, and ping pong tables. Oh, don't forget the Gasthaus; it's a little bar/restaurant area that can be found in the lowest ground in Union building.
Campus Safety Campus safety is a big issue at Milwaukee. Don't worry though, make sure you leave before the sun goes down, leave with a crowd, or leave with S.A.F.E. They walk UWM students to nearby apartments/houses at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This university is a great school, with a very diverse campus. The community is friendly along with the staff. In addition to studying hard, its important to take part in activities on campus.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and don't allow yourself to be distracted. I always knew that there were distractions that came with college life, however I didn't know it to this magnitude.
Academic Rigor My university is very challenging in terms in academic rigor. It's important not to get side tracked because its easy to slip off and getting back on track in most classes is a challenge.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms my first year in school and it was everything that i expected. Staff in the dorm worked with students to maintain good grades along with a healthy living environment.
Food and Dining The food in the dorms were nice and varied daily. In addition to the dorms, the dining restaurants in our campus union was nice as well.
What to do for fun Many people are big on athletics, including myself. So it was nice to have a fitness facility at our disposal as students whenever we wanted.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UWM is a diverse, student affiliated school. There are a lot of organizations/groups that a student can become apart of. They have a lot academic support systems available too.
Tips for prospective students Keep up with your academics and meet up with your advisor to ensure that you are taking the right courses and are staying on track. Also meet up with your professors when you need extra help. They are really understanding and sweet (some). Remember to study! Lastly, have fun and enjoy your college life.
Academic Rigor UWM is strict on their academic. They want to see their students succeed. So, if you fall behind on your gpa you are then on probation and if you fall behind again the following semester than you are suspended for two years. They do not play. But, you can counter act your probation by submitted an appeal through your advisor to see if you can dodge it.
Dorm Life I live not to far from campus, so I have not experience this part of college so far.
Food and Dining The food at UWM is pretty decent. There is a variety of food choices and venders to choose from. For example, Burger king, Taco Bell, etc. But, some of the food are too expensive for a college student to afford.
What to do for fun There are numerous of available fun activities to do on campus, especially with the different types of organizations and groups there. Also, there is always a presentations, movie, or show going on, on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Overall, I feel Milwaukee is a slighty above average University when it comes to most academics. However, the Architecture program is one of the best in the state and country and is the reason I attend this school. It's location is great being near the lake where you have many things to enjoy outside of school.
Tips for prospective students The campus is improving and they are working on getting a brand new student Union, but tuition will go up. The courses are not too challenging and they offer plenty of majors to select from. The city life is fun as well as safe.
Academic Rigor I feel like most programs here are average in the level of work, but the Architecture program I am enrolled in is extremely rigorous. It's almost like a full time job where I am working at my studio from 5 to 9.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms Freshman year and compared to other schools in Wisconsin, they are pretty nice. You share a bathroom with a couple other guys instead of the whole floor, and security is tight so it is a very safe place. Just be sure to bring a fan for the hot months.
Food and Dining Milwaukee offers tons of different restaurants, but the majority of them are off campus. However, the on campus ones do just fine for a college student with the budget we have. From Greek to fantastic italian to soups and sandwiches, UWM's campus keeps us fed.
What to do for fun There's always something to do in Milwaukee, whether it's going to see the Milwaukee Brewer's for 10 bucks on Friday night's, see a live band at The Rave, taking a walk along Lake Michigan or exploring the downtown area. The possibilities are endless. There's numerous shopping center's and interesting museums and parks as well.
Bang for the buck At UWM, you get what you pay for. Most of the campus has beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy, but some of the classrooms are not very exciting. Easily the best thing about Milwaukee is the location, that's really what you're paying for.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The hottest place on the weekend late nights is the Greek restaurant, Oakland Gyro's, where the place is packed with college kids looking for something great to eat.
Great for these types of students If you love being by the water, this is a great place for you since the campus is about a mile off shore. I highly recommend this school to kids interested in Architecture. If you love the hustle and bustle of a city, Milwaukee is the place for you.
Clubs and Activities I'm not in any clubs or activities, but if I wanted to I could easily be in about 50. The student Union here has plenty of bulletins and people set up at table's trying to get students involved.
Campus Safety I feel safe when I go to school here, and that's all that matters.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Great school that cares about you doing well. The course load can be challenging if you want it to be. Most of my professors have been knowledgeable and willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Take hard classes to the start so you can get off on the right foot.
Academic Rigor As difficult as you make it.
Dorm Life The suite style dorms are very nice so you have your own bathroom.
What to do for fun Bradford beach is only a short walk away and the city of Milwaukee has plenty to do.
Campus Safety Never scared to go out alone at night if necessary. Not recommended, but I've never felt unsafe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This school is great for anyone that loves the city. There is so much to do while still earning a great education. I also love how (most) professors will meet with you one-on-one to discuss grades.
Tips for prospective students Have an open mind about meeting new people. You are not going to be making friends with people who are in your expected group. Also, study study study! Some majors are very competitive to get into so having a good GPA and doing LOTS of volunteer work is key!
Academic Rigor For most majors having a high GPA is what is going to get you into your major. It may be easy to get into UWM but the major is what everyone is trying for!
Dorm Life I think depending on which dorm you live in, you will have a different experience. I lived in the Riverview dorms and they were off campus. Since they were smaller and were off campus, I didn't meet as many people as I would have hoped. I say move into Sandburg since those dorms hold the most people. Although, the only downfall of those dorms are that they are the oldest... Riverview and Cambridge are the newest and the nicest. All in all, it is mainly what your preferences are.
Food and Dining There are SO many places one could go to get food. Since Milwaukee is so large there are many different fast food places while also a lot of nice sit down places. Whatever mood you are in, Milwaukee has got it!
What to do for fun Milwaukee is close to Lake Michigan so in the summer that is always the key place to go. Also, on campus, there is a rec center where one could go bowling, play pool, or even play video games. There is always something going on on campus, it is just the matter of looking for those activities!
Bang for the buck Compared to other schools, UWM is fairly cheap. It is obviously not as cheap as a technical college but cheap compared to a lot of the private schools around here. Though, with the money that we put in, I do believe that what we pay is good for the education we are receiving!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are probably unusual traditions and locations on campus but I am not aware of any personally.
Great for these types of students Our school is so diverse that practically any student would feel welcome here!
Clubs and Activities We have so many clubs and activities that I wouldn't even be able to count! If you can think of something we most likely have it! I, on the other hand, found an organization that we did not have, Autism Speaks. Once I found out we did not have an organization here, I started looking into starting it. I am now currently getting the chapter started for the Fall 2012 semester!
Greek Life I am not too sure about the Greek life since I never got interested in joining one.
Campus Safety On campus it is pretty safe. We have safe police that walk around campus at night and police officers that drive around 24/7.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is, to say the least, understated. It boasts a brilliant Undergraduate Research program that gets students (freshman through senoirs) out of the classroom and applying thier skills to fields that interest them. This University has strong academics, highly intelligent professors, and a welcoming social scene.
Tips for prospective students I have two tips for prospective students. The most important thing a new student can do is network and form relationships with your professors (even before the semester starts too). This will helps your grades, the professor's ability to help you and understand where you are in the course material, and also lead to some pretty awesome research opportunities. My second piece of advice is that students should check out the Office of Undergraduate Research. They offer a wonderful summer program for incoming freshman (room and board paid) and they offer research opportunities in many departments (there were upwards of 190 projects listed in the Fall of 2011) and schools across campus.
Academic Rigor The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, although offering some very easy classes at the lower level, provides a rigorous academic atmosphere for those who are willing to succeed. This unversity may not be Ivy League or UC-System, but the professors are graduates of well-known universities and at the undergraduate level there isn't the pressure of a high name university hanging over you. Overall, I have found my classes to be entertaining - but certainly not a walk in the park.
Dorm Life Dormitory life at UW-Milwaukee is pretty great. The layout of most of the dorms allows for the formation of relationships and building of strong community bonds. The Living Learning Communities (LLC's) offer a great opportunity to meet, hang out, and learn with people who have similar interests as yourself. There are many activities offered by the housing departments and the general atmosphere is bright and active.
Food and Dining Albeit dorm food isn't that great, UW_Milwaukee does a decent job. However, the cost depends on where you stay. Certain campus food options are overpriced and local food offerings make more sense than University provided food. Some dorm food, however, is quite cheap and is generally pretty decent.
What to do for fun There is lots to do for fun. There are many, many campus organisations, clubs, and groups. Departments offer lecture series and Offices and student unions offer exciting and enlightening social events (often with free food!). Also, there are plenty of entertainment opportunities in the gymnasium, on-campus movie theatres (which are always running film series), and through the Peck School of the Arts (art showings, theatrical performance, musical performance, and dance productions). If you get tired of the constant offerings of on-campus entertainment, the university is situated just a shortwalk from North Avenue, Downtown, and the Historic Third Ward where there are plenty of movie theatres, restaurants, theatres, cafes, clubs, orchestral events, ballet, you name it - Milwaukee has it (even a spy-themed restaurant - the SafeHouse - with secret entrances, rooms, and much more).
Bang for the buck The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee offers a top level education for a VERY reasonable price. The interrelatedness of the University and the Milwaukee area allow for students to really pursue their goals beyond the classroom and experience life without the University's reputation creating precocieved idea of the student's abilities. There is so much on offer, students, staf and faculty are really friendly and always willing to help. Overall, I am very pleased with this university and what it has to offer (I say this having turned down offers from universities such as the University of York, in England, noted in the top 5 for History in the UK, and the University of Sheffield, number 3 in the UK for Archaeology - after Oxford and Cambridge)

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love the campus. It provides everything I need such as mentors, help with papers, easy communication, and different food choices. The campus is big but not too big and classes vary from big to small so you can choose they type you like.
Tips for prospective students Make use of the writing center with your papers. Don't be afraid to go see your advisers or you TA's.
Academic Rigor For some classes you get a lot of homework. There are a lot of papers you have to write and you need to study for your exams. This university provides you with help in every aspect of your academic life.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms so I have no opinion
Food and Dining There is a ton of options to explore for eating. Some are not on campus but are easy to walk to. This will provide you with a different dining experience every day of the week.
What to do for fun There is a workout room that is very useful. The union has a bowling alley and a rec. center that provides you with hours of fun.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This is a very large school with a huge amount of students but the staff is very dedicated. There is help at every corner and even though not all the teachers speak great english, they are motivated to help. It's a very diverse community with many opportunities.
Tips for prospective students University of Milwaukee is city living, it is busy, loud, and diverse. It opens your eyes to many things and attending school here is more than a book education.
Academic Rigor There is an extremely wide range of courses at UWM. The courses can be fast paced and some quite difficult, but there is always tutoring or help offered.
Dorm Life I live in a dorm off campus and take the shuttle to class everyday. The dorms are a great way to meet new people and a great way to learn to compromise (such as living with a random roommate). There is security 24/7 and facilities almost around every corner. The dorms are extremely nice because every suite/room has their own bathroom.
Food and Dining There isn't a wide selection of food in the off campus dorms. The food offered on campus/off campus dorms is nothing special or unique. Off campus restaurants, however, display a large variety of foods. There are expensive places, cheap, diverse, simple, and anything and everything else you can imagine.

Dorm Life I am not sure, since my degree is online.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UW Milwaukee is a great school to attend with a great variety of classes, clubs, sports, and activities. Located on the east side of Milwaukee you have all the benefits the city has to offer, which are many! It is also a great school to get involved in any number of research projects that are ongoing.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour and see what clubs are available to get involved in. It is a great way to meet people and foster relationships. There truly is a club for everyone and in the rare occasion you can't find one that fits your interests, you can apply to create one!
Academic Rigor All classes I've taken at UW Milwaukee challenge you academically, but it is not so intense that you spend all of your free time studying. The overall class grades follow your typical bell curve, and many times there will be a slight curve to your final grade.
Dorm Life I never personally lived in the dorms but I've visited friends there. The rooms were typical dorm rooms and the buildings are located right next to the klotcke center (gym/health/fitness). They are also located right on many major bus routes so it is easy to get anywhere in the city without a car.
Food and Dining The food on campus is good and bad. There are many healthy options, lots of variety, and many fast food options as well. There is something for everyone, and blocks away from restraunts if you don't like what is on campus.
What to do for fun There are many sports and rec classes that have on and off campus activities, clubs, and concerts to see. The campus has guest speakers, film festivals, and art exhibits. If you can't find something fun, you are not looking.
Bang for the buck While the cost of tuition is rising everywhere, you still get a great education and college experience for the cost.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The 8th note coffee house is located right in the middle of the union, run by students of the Union Activities Board. They offer a great place to sit and drink some of the best/cheapest coffee, tea, and cappuccinos on campus. There are tons of awesome people to meet and there is always a concert or poetry reading scheduled. Everyday there is a chance to get free coffee or tea if you know the obscure posted quote.
Great for these types of students Any types of students, but particularly great for students who are also parents. There are many classes that are offered day, night, and some weekend to accommodate the diverse number of students.
Clubs and Activities Many to choose from and participate in. There is something for everyone!
Greek Life No comment. There are sororities and fraternities, but I never looked into them
Campus Safety Campus is a very safe place. I've never had any incidences where I felt unsafe, but was notified by email about incidences on or around campus. There is campus security, safe rides home, and stationed safe boxes with a button activated alarm.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences this school is really fun. there are many people from different backgrounds which makes this school very diverse. there are always people who are there when you need help as well as professors who are always there to help when ou struggle with anything in class.
Tips for prospective students try to have fun and choose classes you know you'll enjoy. if your having trouble with anything talk to your mentor or adviser's, they'll be a big help. talk to your professor and get to know them, especially if your in a big class, since to they won't know you unless you don't put a face to a name. also try engaging in many activities, the school has many options that might suit your taste.
Academic Rigor the classes can be a hassle, especially with all the work and projects that your professor gives you. but hey that's college for you, depending on the class and teacher the class can either be easy or hard. you just got to know when to ask for help an try and prioritize your schedule.
Food and Dining uwm has a variety of choices to go and eat. they have taco bell, burger king, and many others including the union terrace where many kinds of snacks and food choices can be found. they also have many vegetarian choices for those who don't eat meat or just like eating healthier.
Campus Safety the campus has been safe so far, though their have been some trouble around campus. though campus security have always sent email or text alerts to students to warn them if something has happened so we can be on the alert. as well as providing a number and around the clock vigilance to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor the academic rigor depends on what classes you take. for instance, i took math 105 the first semester which was a lot of work, and second semester i found that math 211 wasn't as demanding. also, if a class is interesting to you, you might find it to be easier for you to understand and you might not view the homework as work.
Dorm Life i love living in the dorms because you get to meet so many people. the lounge that is shared by two floors allows people to hang out, do homework, and meet new people. i hang out with friends every day and always see new people to meet. living in the dorms is also beneficial because you can wake up and walk to class within 10-15 minutes.
Food and Dining i'm not too thrilled with the food because of the weighing system. everything besides the main dishes are priced based off of its weight, so fruit can be more expensive. they do add new meals to the menu so they don't serve the same meals every week which is something that i like.
What to do for fun the bayshore mall is just a short bus ride away, so my friends and i will go adventure there sometimes. uwm also plans fun events for people to go to. there are also highly rated movies every weekend in flicks.

Tips for prospective students talk to your professors. they are a great resource and willing to work things out.
Academic Rigor this school is just about right when it comes to academics. i think the pace depends on the professor, but most are willing to compromise.
Food and Dining the food isn't all that good, but easy and convenient for a fast-paced college student.
What to do for fun there is the rec center open for bowling and pool. there is also the adventure center where they rent out different sports utilities for students to use. the gasthaus is a great location to relax with friends.
Clubs and Activities there are many organizations that help promote cultural and political thoughts. it is a great way to meet new friends and learn more about other things.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences university of wisconsin-milwaukee is enriched with much diversity, and really gives the college experience. with a small college campus you feel like you can really get to know students, but yet there is still many opportunities to succeed surrounding you. if i were to rate uwm, i would give in a 8.
Tips for prospective students for prospective students, i believe this is great school to get the college campus, and the dorms are actually nicer than other colleges. you share a bathroom with only three to four other people instead of the whole floor. and literally everything you need is within walking distance or a short bus ride.
Academic Rigor the courses are hard, this is college, but they are achievable, and uwm offers many tutor programs all helping students to get that a in the class.
Dorm Life it's a dorm, it's not home living. but the dorms here are better than most colleges. you have two cafeterias, fitness center, laundry room, coffee shop and a convenience store all located in the resident halls, and on top of all that you are surrounded with a large group of uwm students, so there is never a dull moment.
Food and Dining the cafeteria food very diverse. around holidays the dining hall plans specific nights to have a themed food, like thanksgiving dinner, or mardi gras night, chinese night, etc. and then they include a grill, a deli, fresh food and salad bar, pasta entrees, and then a create you own of something, like your own pizza, grilled cheese, etc. the dining hall gives many options of food, which is all included in the students meal plan.
What to do for fun for fun at uwm they campus holds a union, where there is a bowling alley, a ping pong room, pool room, a restaurant, and movies offered. these are just a few things offered at the university of wisconsin-milwaukee. outside of campus you have the whole city of milwaukee, with many malls, museums, zoo's, parks, and just 5 minutes away from campus you have the beautiful lake front of lake michigan.
Bang for the buck on campus if you want a meal to really fill you up, and with great taste that is on a college student's budget, there is a restaurant called ma fisher's. this restaurant has a large menu with many different options ranging from breakfast to dinner, and the restaurant is opened 24 hours. this is a great place for students to catch up, get something to eat, and still be on a budget.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus something unusual about uwm, that also makes it unique is the campus holds a few small museums. in the art's building throughout the building there are small art exhibits open for anyone to see. and then in the library on the top floor there is a history museum, which is also open for students to go and study. it gives the campus uniqueness that other colleges don't have.
Great for these types of students university of wisconsin-milwaukee has a population of 34,000 students, and within the student body is a wide range of diversity. we value the different cultures of uwm, and celebrate what each individual has to offer.
Clubs and Activities there is a wide range of student organizations, going from a harry potter club, to sports literature. the school offers many organizations for the point of getting students involved, with over 700 clubs and organizations there is one that fits each student.
Greek Life uwm doesn't have much of a greek life, but the greek life that they do have is very active in the community, and working to make more valuable citizens of society.
Campus Safety the campus is surrounded by security, and by this i mean we have emergency blue lights all around campus where students can press the button and college police will be there within minutes. late at night if a student is to walk home from the library the school offer's safe walkers, which are individuals working for the campus police to walk you home, or the school also offer's boss drivers which is a be on the safe side program, and this is free of charge for uwm students, they simply call boss and they will come and pick you up and take you to your desired location. a student like myself, there has never been a moment where i did not feel safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i absolutely love the campus and the people around here. the classes are big yet you are always able to talk with you professors if needed. every ta i've had has been very helpful and outgoing and helped me through the class.
Tips for prospective students new students, coming into school, i wish i had this advice. don't buy the books until you realize you actually need them. use all of your effort in every class and make sure you get enough sleep. falling asleep in class is not fun, it's embarassing and you don't learn anything.
Academic Rigor through out high school, everyone told me that college was much harder? were they right? of course! but of course college is harder. however, the professers here teach in a very complex way and i love it. they don't teach slower, but it seems like it. their way of teaching is telling you the important stuff that you need to know but leaving that stuff you want to know out. this way, you go read the required book and find out everything. i learn a lot better this way and i'm getting better grades that i figured.
Dorm Life dorm life is fun but very strict. my roommate and i had friends come visit for my birthday and getting guests in, is a pain in the butt. the security is rude to my parents, who can be a little slow at times, and now my parents hate coming to see me.
Food and Dining food around campus is good. the food in the dorms, however, can be better. you do get sick of the food and it's the same every week. the fruit is fresh, but the salads never green. also, about 3 other people and i got food poisoning from the pizza puffs in the sandburg cafe and spent hours in norris throwing up.
What to do for fun we are very close to the lake, so in the summer that is always fun. bayshore is just a few miles away and that's always fun. the union has bowling and pool and many more activities. also, hanging with your friends in the dorms watching a movie in flicks is always fun too!

Am enjoying being here It's sometimes hard to jump right in and become involved in such a huge school. I am just learning the ropes as a freshman. I'm looking forward to becoming more involved next semester, which will make me happier.
Bang for the buck The teachers are great. The learning is what you're there for and UWM really delivers.
Tips for prospective students Make friends right out of the gate and get involved. It's easier to get through college when you know other people have to jump through the same hoops you do. Friends make it bearable and definitely more fun.
