    Am learning a lot

The classes are challenging but most of the teachers are pretty cool and make learning fun. Although they don't baby you like most high school teachers so you need to stay on top of your work. Get on the teachers good side by going to class and by going to office hours. Also, do all homework and extra credit... it really pays off in the end!

    Am enjoying being here

I've made a lot of great friends here but a lot of people commute. If they don't commute they are from 20 minutes away. I feel like everyone went to the same 3 high schools and therefore it makes it kinda clicky. Not many people are from out of state; a lot of people call it the 13th grade.

    Bang for the buck

It's a very good deal if you live in Pennsylvania because it's so cheap. The campus and classrooms are very nice and up to date. Renovations are currently being made to all the dorm rooms and academic buildings and the construction is already halfway done.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and be patient when waiting to hear about your acceptance. They take a very long time to get back to you and don't try calling because that's a lost cause. No one ever answers the phone and you'll have better luck just showing up at the university and talking to a real person. (That's what I did!)

Great for these types of students

This is a great college for almost any type of student. There is a wonderful Greek life and hundreds of clubs/sports/groups to join. If you cannot find a certain group or organization that you want to join (which I doubt will happen) you can always create your own. It's a laid back school with many friendly people and not a lot of drama like high school.

    Am learning a lot

Some classes are more challenging than others but I still learn a lot from them. I have plenty of work to keep me busy in most of my classes. The classes I have are lectures and I can't just sit and listen, I have to take notes to study from. Most teachers will give you homework but they won't grade them or even ask for them back. You have to finish them and study if you want to keep up with the class. Teachers also pay little attention to who's in class and who isn't, that doesn't mean you can skip classes or you will fall behind. If you find the class difficult, you can find a tutor to help you with the class. All in all, the classes are easy if you are willing to work for your grade.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a lot of different people here. You can make friends even if you are a very shy person. There are a lot of organizations to join and there is always something fun going on on-campus. There are $2 movies on the weekends and other fun activities such as game night and dueling pianos. The dorms are not the greatest but I've heard that the suites are fun. The stores are about a 10-15 minute walk from the campus so you don't need a vehicle. The parking is limited and the traffic can be annoying. Most people walk everywhere and the campus is very beautiful and pleasant. There are ups and downs and it just depends on what you like.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very low compared to other universities. You get more out of your money than you think. Sporting events are free with your student id. They are constantly giving out t-shirts and prizes at different events. Most events have free food and drinks. A lot of the clubs and organizations hold free fun event members can attend. Your student id can get you discount at different stores in town. Honestly, you couldn't get much more for the price you are paying to go here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can try to get an apartment or a suite because they are more comfortable and they have free laundry and a kitchen/kitchenette. However, if you do end up in a dorm, it's not too bad. There are many opportunities here so don't be afraid to take them. The transition is not bad but you have to make sure to do your work and budget your time because no one else will make you. There is someone to help you everywhere you look you just have to ask for it.

Great for these types of students

This school is good for anyone who likes to live near a city but not in it. It is also great for people who are very social or want to learn how to be very social. People who want to get involved in their school and have a good education will love this school.

West Chester is a great school. There are so many great professors who are willing to help if needed.Do your work and be careful not to get too caught up in parties and you'll do just fine. Get involved, have fun, live it up. There is so much to learn here!

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, the staff are friendly, and the people here are a ton of fun. Get involved! There are so many clubs you can join to meet people and living in the dorms is fun too. I have met so many friends through living on campus. It is a great experience and you chose how much you enjoy it.

    Bang for the buck

West Chester is one of the cheapest schools you can go to in PA, but the education is still at an equal level to all other state schools. It's nice that with in-state tuition, I won't have to worry about being in debt up to my eyeballs for the rest of my life. It is so worth the money.

    Tips for prospective students

West Chester is a lot of fun, but you really have to learn how to manage your time here. It is really easy to get caught up in the party scene or to sit around and play video games all day. If you don't go to class and get your work done, you have no shot here. It's fun, but it's also a lot of work. You just need to find that happy medium and then you're good to go. Enjoy it and use your time wisely.

Great for these types of students

West Chester is great for education majors. That's what the school is known for. The first semester here, you get right into your major and your studies. The other fields here are very in depth as well. I am in the art program here, and although it is not an art school, West Chester's art program is amazing. The faculty are so helpful and understanding. As your get to know the faculty better, the classes get even better. It's a great program to be involved with. I couldn't ask for anything more.

My favorite aspect of West Chester University of PA is the quiet, quaint college community. You're just minutes away from Philadelphia, Delaware and Maryland in one direction, and farm country in the other, with attractions like King of Prussia Mall and Longwood Gardens virtually around the corner. The peace and tranquility of this college town has a lot to offer the individually both mentally and physically.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let one bad visit/experience taint your perception of West Chester University. 95% of the days in West Chester are beautiful and sunny, and the people that you meet here are friends you will cherish until the end of your days. Sure that experience is available at any secondary educational institution, but I find that West Chester just has a really nice blend of individuality.

    Academic Rigor

Having come from a College Preparatory High School, I was very prepared for college, but I find most of the classes and educators to be very engaging and interesting. Professors are fair and offer plenty of opportunity for discussion outside of the class room if I am ever struggling.

    Dorm Life

Having lived and worked in the dorms, both traditional and suite style, for 2 years, I can honestly say that WCU dorm life is a great experience. People on each floor are often seen bouncing from room to room visiting friends. The facilities also provide necessary kitchen access, fitness equipment, and night time security in each building. Residential Assistants offer community activities to allow residents opportunities to bond with others in their dorm over fun activities.

    Food and Dining

Probably my least favorite aspect of WCU is the dining services. The food is good for the most part, but like any student, I'm going to complain about over pricing.

    What to do for fun

As I mentioned earlier, attractions like King of Prussia mall and Longwood Gardens are a stones throw from campus for students with a means of transportation. For closer-to-home fun, the town of West Chester is within walking distance for delicious food and boutique shopping. There are also plenty of parks for recreation in the area. Finally, there are dozens of clubs and organizations on campus that will allow you to extend your social circle and make lifelong friends

    Bang for the buck

Being a state school, definitely worth the money. I couldn't imagine paying 5x as much money to go elsewhere that doesn't offer half of the amenities that WCU does

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Banana day is a day during the spring semester where the campus comes alive with games, races and other sorts of activities rewarded with t-shirts, food and of course... bananas.

Great for these types of students

    Great for literally any individual

    Clubs and Activities

As a member of Greek Life on my campus I can speak from experience that our activities both on and off campus are a lot of fun to get involved in. The people that you meet, and the connections that you make will last a long, long time.

    Greek Life

As mentioned above, as a member of Greek Life i can say that our community is growing. Greek Life isn't a gigantic part of campus life in West Chester, but those who are involved love being a part. We work extensively with the local community and each other, ultimately forming interrelations between all Greeks.

    Campus Safety

It's a dry campus, with nightly security as mentioned prior. I never feel threatened, no matter the time of day. Given there are incidences, but this is America after all. This campus is well protected. There is a police station located on the edge of campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot. The teachers are very helpful, especially if you come to class, speak up, and attend office hours. The more familiar you become with a teacher, the more willing to help they become.

    Am enjoying being here

Because there are such diverse groups of people, it was really easy to make friends. I think it is impossible to not make friends here. The most enjoyable part of being here is the school pride. Everyone is so school spirited and it spreads to even the most shy and soft-spoken.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student, so it is more expensive for me to attend. On the other hand, I have friends who attend in state schools in NJ and they cost as much as West Chester University's out of state students. And though there are extra fees for parking and recreation, it is well worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved early. I joined the marching band and I don't think I would have been able to survive my first semester without it. It helped me make my first friends. When you get involved, you're happier and more positively social, rather than going out to party after party and getting drunk with strangers.

Great for these types of students

All students. There's a place for everyone at West Chester University. There are lots of fun and different people. Not everyone goes out to drink and party. Many have fun in other ways and the university has so much to offer.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get caught up in the parties. It can be fun but keep in mind the reason why you're attending.

Great for these types of students

Education majors. You will like its small town feel but also will enjoy its close proximity to a large city. Ignore the bad things you here about Philadelphia. The bad stuff happens to the people doing bad things or just not being careful. I've lived in the city in not too great of a neighborhood and I haven't had ANY problems.

    Will learn a lot

You'll love it here. The classes are reasonably proportioned so that students don't feel left out because of too many peers. Most of the professors have actually attended WCU and are thrilled to be your instructors. Keep to the books and don't get too carried away on the weekends, and you'll find yourself with all A's!

    Will enjoy being here

It is going to be so exciting! The student population really does shape the town of West Chester. During the summer, a few students stay and enjoy the town life, and during the school year you'll have no trouble getting acquainted with neighbors and making new friends.

    Bang for the buck

If you're looking to go to a medium sized school, that has a lot of groups and opportunities for diversity, WCU is the place for you. The tuition is reasonable, and the classes are worth your attention.

    Tips for prospective students

Go on to places4students.com to find a place to live. I did this, and I'm so happy to be living in the middle of West Chester, close to campus, with 3 great roommates!

West Chester is a great school, I just feel that I could have personally challenged myself a little more. If you're looking to get into any kind of physical education, special education, general education, this is a great school to consider. As a Criminal Justice student, I'm not getting as much out of the classes here as I was looking to get. The professors are great, but I would prefer some more stimulating classwork.

    Am enjoying being here

Unfortunately, West Chester is a big party school. This may be good news to some but campus partying causes a MAJOR amount of distractions. The purpose of college is to extend your education and if you're only looking to party, you might not be ready for it yet. A lot of West Chester students get caught up in the party/bar scene and struggle with their academics. Don't get me wrong, your college years are some of the best of your life - but if you neglect you're academics you'll struggle a lot when you're thrown into the real world.
Other than partying, West Chester has a ton of activities to get involved in. The school spirit here is great despite not having big D1 sports to get into. The school size is getting pretty big so there's no trouble finding friends.

    Bang for the buck

Although this is probably the case for most schools especially in our economy, I personally think West Chester does not spend their money wisely. Firstly, out of state residents pay more than 3 times what PA residents pay. I don't see how this is a good method of attracting a diverse student population. If I could do the college application process over again, I would actually consider finding a school instate just because of the cost. Secondly, our tuition money and thousands of dollars in random fees are going towards building brand new dorms which are beautiful but so unbelievably expensive. Our money should be going to more important things like the HUGE parking issue on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Despite some of my negative experiences at this school, the overall majority of students love it here. It's a very lively campus with some great teachers and exciting classes. I like to party and have fun but I tend to be more focused on school. It's important to enjoy your time at college and make a lot of friends but you NEED to focus on school too. You'll regret skipping classes and not studying when your GPA keeps you from graduating on time or getting a great job or internship opportunity. Just keep your life in balance!

I have learned so much already at WCU within one semester. The professors aren't going to baby you, but will definitely answer your questions and will help you to the best of their ability. Office hours are very useful and it's a good way to show the professor you care about what you are learning in class, and most importantly your grades.

    Am enjoying being here

Living in the dorms is quite an experience. I have met so many great people and have established many life long friendships. Leaving the door open while you're in your room is a great way to meet the people on your floor. Don't be shy to walk down the hallway and introduce yourself to others. There are plenty of activities held within your residence hall, which is a great way to meet people. The food on campus is quite good. There are many different options on and off campus for dining. Many places will deliver to the dorms free of a delivery charge, which is a plus. The campus and the town itself is very pleasant. The stores are about a ten-fifteen minute walk, so a car is not needed on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I am receiving a high quality education for the relatively low price I am paying to attend West Chester University. There are great professors at this institution.

    Tips for prospective students

If you go to class and do your assignments, you will succeed in your classes. If you look at your schedule and notice a class that may be difficult, sign up for a tutor the fist day of classes. Tutors are first come, first serve. Do not sleep through your classes or refuse to study because you don't want to be behind in your classes. Being behind will only hurt you in the end and it will reflect in your GPA.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students pursuing a degree in any of the majors offered at this institution.

    Will learn a lot

So far what I've seen is that this school is very serious about academics so I am expecting to learn a lot in the classroom. There also is some diversity in clubs at the school so I know I can learn a lot outside of the classroom as well.

    Will enjoy being here

So far I'm not to sure about this one. It's hard to get any attention from the offices unless you are right there in their faces trying to talk to them over the phone is completely useless. Otherwise though the students and faculty that i have met are pretty nice so it won't be to hard to make friend if you're from out of state but, most if not all the students went to the same if not close to the same high school so they will definitely be in their own little cliques if their freshmen.

    Bang for the buck

Its a pretty cheap college compared to other's and the school is sorta growing on me.

    Tips for prospective students

Juniors apply early or you will wait till around April to find out if you got in and also walk the campus to see if you really should be here. Apply for scholarships also some of the ones for this school are really hard to get there are easier ones to get

Classes will vary in difficulty, but there is definitely a challenge. You will learn a lot from your courses and they have so much to offer. It may seem overwhelming at times depending on your degree requirements and specific course schedule, but it is definitely manageable. You will really enjoy your classes.

    Dorm Life

For traditional dorms the living facilities are very decent. Though some of the buildings are old, they are still livable and kept pretty clean. The RA's are VERY nice and always around. You can talk to them about anything. They are always happy to help or just have friendly conversation with you. It can be that one thing that cheers you up after a tough day. The other students in the dorm also get along well. Depending on what floor you're on, sometimes the floor as a whole becomes very close and you might already have a group of people to have fun with.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall food isn't terrible. It is college food, so you probably will get tired of it after a while, and it isn't exactly like home-cooked food. However, it isn't really bad. Luckily, when you aren't in the mood for the dining hall, there are also other places on campus to eat. You can get custom-made sandwiches and salads in the student union building. There is also the campus Diner where you can get sandwiches, fries, milkshakes and more all the way until 2am. Of course everybody loves the Einstein Bros. Bagels and Starbucks conveniently on campus!

    What to do for fun

For one thing there are plenty of clubs and organizations on campus. If you have a passion or an interest there is definitely a group for it on campus. The student union building also hosts many fun events, including movies on the weekends as well as Sykes After Dark on Fridays, when they have many activities and even different guest entertainers. Even in the dorms the RA's are always hosting fun events and socials. You can always have a good time. If you want to get off campus, even if you don't have a car it is a short and convenient walk into town. High St. has many restaurants and cute shops. The town has such a nice atmosphere that you will enjoy merely walking up and down the streets. There is always something to do in West Chester.

    Bang for the buck

West Chester is most definitely one of the most affordable schools out there. Even on a tough budget it is affordable and manageable! And of course there are also PLENTY of scholarship opportunities from the school (not to mention all of the other scholarships out there).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Homecoming is one of the greatest events on campus. It is always so much fun to see the parade and be with everyone cheering and screaming united. The whole campus comes together for such a fantastic event!

Great for these types of students

Honestly, West Chester is great for any kind of student. It is a very diverse community with students of all types and personalities and interests. Whatever you like to do or whatever you have a passion for there is a place for you on this campus. Of course you will thrive all the more here if you like a fun and upbeat setting.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a HUGE list of things to do at West Chester. There are so many clubs for just about any interest and many organizations that do great things. There are groups for simple fun and there are also groups that do many great things to contribute to charity and to the community. There is so much wonderful campus environment.

    Greek Life

There are plenty fraternities and sororities to join. If you look and go to the many information sessions that they have, you will surely find one where you feel like you belong. Many of the Greek organizations do great things for the student community as well as the community of West Chester and beyond. Don't fear hazing because the campus has a very strict no hazing policy. The Greek life is friendly and united.

    Campus Safety

Campus security is always available. Most of the campus remains well lit. There are emergency phones always close on every street, but it isn't likely that you need them. There are few assaults and crimes committed on campus but when they are, campus safety alerts the campus community almost immediately. You can arrange for campus safety alerts to be sent right to your phone. The few assaults and crimes are usually due to incidents of extreme intoxication or people making unsafe decisions. As long as you do what is safe you should have nothing to worry about.

    Am learning a lot

The first two years of school felt like a much easier review of high school. I am currently in the middle of my junior year and for the first time I feel as though I am learning a substantial amount of new material. I went to a competitive high school and was an honors student, so what is review for me isn't for some of my classmates.

    Am enjoying being here

Teachers have limited interactions with you, and seem to be there for the paycheck. I have yet to personally meet a teacher who seems genuinely interested in teaching students.

    Bang for the buck

Great inexpensive school overall. Selective for a state school, and affordable. Has enough extracurricular and internship oppurtunities to be worth the experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to remain in contact with your advisor or find a good teacher to talk to. Its really easy to get lost in the woodwork here.

Great for these types of students

Perfect for the undecided student. Affordable while still providing a degree from a school that will get you into a higher teir graduate school.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are sort of challenging but they have taught me how to become better organized, and how to succeed better as a student. I have only had experience with general education requirements so far so I cannot say that I have learned much for my major yet.

    Am enjoying being here

It is close to my home and the campus is beautiful. There is so much to offer and so much to do. I have made so many new friends and found the professors to be helpful and caring.

    Bang for the buck

It is perfect for the price. You cannot beat it!

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and enjoy yourself. Get involved in something, you will meet many new people.

    Am learning a lot

This school is the optimal place to learn. Professors do all of the teaching and legwork; there are no Teaching Assistants (TAs). Most professors are very approachable if you need help, and appreciate questions. I have an important message for incoming freshman; in college, no matter where you choose to go, you will not learn very much unless you study outside of class. There is too much course material to memorize after attending a class, so studying 2 to 3 hours for each hour spent in class is crucial. Most professors have office hours that allow you to ask questions if you have trouble with anything or don't understand something outside of class.

I really like attending this school. It is a medium-sized school; big enough to have a large range of class options, and small enough to have small class sizes. The largest lecture hall classes do not have more than about 80 or 90 students, and a majority of classes have about 25 to 30 students for one professor. Diversity and equality are emphasized at this school, and it has resources such as the Multicultural Center, Women's Center, and Black Student Union for this reason. Most buildings on campus were built in the 1800's and early 1900's, which gives the campus a lot of character, there are many food courts to choose from, and the academic quad is very busy and relaxing on warm spring days. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, and two indoor pools (with free-swim hours), sport clubs and teams, and a variety of interest, volunteer, academic, and major-specific clubs to choose from. Additionally, there are $2 popular films at the Student Union building during the weekends, and a recreation center is under construction!

    Bang for the buck

This school is a great value. All kinds of academic and career resources are available, including a tutoring center, writing center ( reviews essays of all types), a career center (helps undecided students with a career choice, helps other students with resumes, and organizes internship fairs), and freshman interest-group dorm communities. Also, laptops are very handy tools but, if you don't have money to buy one, or your computer breaks during the school year, there are computer labs with printers all over campus that are available to all students.

    Tips for prospective students

Time-management is a very important skill at school. Planning out a study schedule (and perhaps a workout schedule) is very useful, so you don't forget about assignments, are ready for tests, and so you have a way to manage stress. Also, always put academics first. If friends invite you to a movie night, but you still have an essay to write, always choose the essay. The legendary story about the freshman 15 is also true. If you want to maintain your weight, make sure you avoid the desert bar when you can. Sometimes it is tough, but it is important. Nutrition facts are available in the dining hall, which is very useful.

Great for these types of students

Students who like being able to talk to their professors about class- related questions should attend this school. It is also a place for students who want to go to a school that emphasizes diversity and equality. They have resources for black, female, foreign, gay, and lesbian students. Many of our sports teams are excellent, and the marching band is absolutely incomparable! Many sports make it to the playoffs, our women's soccer team won the league championship this year, most of our club sports compete against Division I schools, and our marching band is comprised of about 300 members, many of whom are music majors or drum corps participants. There are numerous service, social, and honor fraternities and sororities to join; all of whom do a lot of good things for the school, community, and charities. Anyone who is interested in teaching, music, science, health science, or liberal arts programs would be pleasantly surprised here. Any student can find their niche at West Chester University of PA!
