    Tips for prospective students

It is a smaller school so the classes tend to be smaller and allow for more student-teacher interaction. There is a lot more free time than high school so I would recommend being involved in several activities which do make the college experience worthwhile. As far as the overall education, Western New England is only what you are willing to put into it. As an engineering student I didn't find the work overwhelming. You just have to be willing to put in the effort.

Great for these types of students

Those willing to work and be involved

    Am learning a lot

The class size at this college is small, which allows you to get to know your professors much better. This can prove to be extremely beneficial if you need extra help in a certain subject. The professors are always at their office hours and eager to help students. Western New England College also offers help in the Writing Center and the Math Center to help maximize each individual student's learning potential. The Western New England College School of Business is accredited internationally by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), which offers exemplary education for any one interested in a business major; Accounting, in my case.

    Am enjoying being here

Western New England College makes you feel welcome from the first foot you step on the campus. By offering numerous First year programs in the first couple months, WNEC makes you almost feel like you've been there all along. There are always trips each weekend traveling to places like the Baseball Hall of Fame, the local Six Flags theme park, or nearby Boston, MA. There are numerous campus activities available to get involved in as well. By offering an Activity fair early in the year, Western New England College grants everyone an even opportunity to take advantage of any extracurricular activities that spark their interest.

    Bang for the buck

All of those services and programs i mentioned above, however, don't come free obviously. Western New England College is a private institution, which charges much more for tuition than a public one would, which is obvious. If you're looking to be extremely conservative with your money in these economic times, Western New England College might not be the best option for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose a college where you feel right, and feel at home. It's a hard feeling to describe but when your gut instinct tells you, this is the college for me, follow it. It is a reason they call it your conscience.

Great for these types of students

Students that work hard, have goals of earning a good business, engineering, or pharmaceutical job, and aren't afraid to be themselves and take risks.

    Am learning a lot

Since the class sizes are all about less than thirty students, you have the chance to get to know your professors better than you would in a larger class setting. This allows you to ask questions at ease and visit your professors when class is not in session if you have any questions or need extra help.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is a perfect representation of New England at its finest. Even though the campus is located in the city, your surroundings give the illusion that you are in the country, with its gorgeous shrubbery, green grass, and abundant trees.

    Bang for the buck

Western New England College provides great merit aid as well as other forms of scholarships, making it possible for anyone to attend. Though its private institution tuition may seem high, the deduction in tuition from scholarship aid makes it affordable for anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend the freshmen events that they hold during Labor Day weekend (examples: Farmington River tubing, paintball, etc.). These give you the opportunity to make friends who enjoy the same types of activities that you do.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who enjoy being able to find their way around campus easily, who enjoy having ample opportunities to meet and make friends, and who enjoy having the ability to truly connect with their professors.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like a small school with alot to offer, this is a school for you. It is located in a town and its academics seem up to par. Though, when I visited I didn't see as much to do as I would have liked.

Western New England University has a gorgeous campus with challenging academic programs and numerous clubs. Teachers are helpful and the classes are small enough for personal attention. It is a great school for students looking for strong academics on a fairly small and personal campus.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging but the professors care about the success of their students. There is a lot of information available in the library and teachers are willing to offer extra help.

    Dorm Life

The residence halls are clean and the rooms are on the small side. The shared bathrooms are also clean and I have never experienced any problems.

    Food and Dining

There are limited dining options but always an option for everyone, including picky eaters. The main dining hall has a variety of options. There is a Subway that is open late on weekends.

    Campus Safety

Public Safety is always available and does regular patrols. Western New England has blue lights all over campus.

Everyone at WNEU makes you feel welcome as soon as you set foot on the campus. The university's student enrollment is a perfect size to build personal relationships with professors, and to have intimate classes with about twenty-five students. WNEU has a wide range of majors that allow for students with extremely different interests to come together and develop friendships.

    Tips for prospective students

As a freshman or transfer student, try to stay at school until Columbus Day break; this allows for you to build stronger friendships with other students.

Meet with your advisor on a regular basis so that you are able to stay on track and perhaps achieve things you did not think you would be able to, such as having two majors or choosing a subject to minor in.

    What to do for fun

There are all kinds of on campus activities that allow for you to develop new friendships. Some of the activities WNEU has had are: weekly activities in the campus center, game nights, concerts, outdoor activities (rock walls, slip n' slides, frisbee, intrameural sports, etc)

Great for these types of students

This school is great for: students who want to live at school but may be overwhelmed by a larger university, students who want to play sports but do not seem capabe of playing at a Division I school, students who want classes that are similar to the size of high school classes (on average 25 students)

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of activities at WNEU including: academic clubs, sports, intrameural sports, campus activities board, peer tutoring, peer advisors, etc

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life at WNEU.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety at this school are actual Springfield cops and are friendly and make the campus feel extremely safe.

A very amazing and relatively small school with regard to classroom size. Lots of majors and very nice buildings with extremely nice and helpful teachers. One hell of a neuroscience program ;)

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking into a smaller school with small student to teacher ration then Western New England is good for you. Don't expect 20,000 students here. Less then 3,000 on the undergraduate campus. But its a lot of fun.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the programs (engineering and some sciences) are harder than others however that's what college is about. Pushing yourself and learning. It's nothing unmanageable. If you are willing to work hard and put forth the effort you can do it. No problem.

    Dorm Life

They have a lot of fun activities going on during the weekends. Dorms are a lot of fun. There isn't a lot of partying that happens mostly off campus so don't expect a lot of it. Dorms are relatively good sized. They offer doubles and triples.

    Food and Dining

I personally think the food is great. They always have a pizza station and a salad bar. The different types of sandwiches rotate. The hot meals are always different. The grill is mainly burgers but they will cook up anything. I think breakfast is the best. They make the most terrific omelettes.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot of stuff to do on weekends. At the cafe the late night (a program on campus) always puts on events from 9 o'clock to 2 a.m. CAB another program does events a little earlier usually from 6 or 7 to as late as 10 or 11. There's usually a lot to do. My favorite thing is their destress week. They do a lot of destressing things the week before finals. Like massages, stress balls, music, dancing, crafts. You go for an hour or two to relax.

    Bang for the buck

I went between 3 and 4 stars on this. I love my prgram for my major. I love the amount of clubs and stuff the campus offers but it is not a cheap school. I gave it four stars because I think that the programs are incredible and most colleges are becoming more expensive anyways. Face it. The economy blows, but I do believe you'll get your monies worth here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing that I can think of off the top of my head.

Great for these types of students

It's great for people who like smaller schools. If you are a little introverted that's okay, they have a lot of ice breaker programs and you are guaranteed to meet your friends. There's a lot of stuff to do but you do have to be a little more academically based.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and activities going on. Your standard ones like pre med, outing club, psych club to maybe not so standard, Japanese anime club, magic, paint balling.

    Greek Life

    None

    Campus Safety

Incredible campus safety program. Blue lights outside most dorms for any emergency. Campus police are always driving around. They can respond to anything in under 90 seconds. It has been proven.

western new england university is pretty good academically. if you want the help teacher are usually eager to do so and will find time to make sure you understand the material. the campus is fairly nice.

    Academic Rigor

this school is as difficult as you make it. like i said earlier, it is a small school and the professors are always willing to help if you put in the effort to contact them. i found it hard to get classes that i will thoroughly enjoy though as there are not many interesting electives due to the small size.

    Dorm Life

extremely strict. one time i was sitting in a dorm room with a few friends and someone yelled shots as an ra walked by. he called the campus police to search the room when it was simply a phone conversation in which someone said shot loudly. there was no alcohol present at the time and it was a bit ridiculous.

    Food and Dining

the food here is absolutely terrible, students will try and avoid eating it as much as possible as it will give you a stomach ache. that is a major flaw in the school most students would eat easy mac everyday over going to the dining hall in the campus center.

    What to do for fun

unfortunately, i have found nothing consistently fun in the springfield area and my interests are diverse.

    Bang for the buck

pretty good academically but is extremely expensive for the quality of dorms and food. also the lack of things to do both on campus and off really puts a damper on the whole college experience. overall, i wpould say this institution is not worth the 40k a year.

Great for these types of students

strictly academic and club oriented students as springfield ma has nearly nothing to do that most students will feel comfortable doing because it fairly dangerous.

    Clubs and Activities

i only dabbled in clubs freshman year, there are plenty of options considering the size of the school but none of them particularly interested me. often ideas that most people would find perfectly acceptable are shut down due to some regulation that the school has

    Greek Life

    non existant

    Campus Safety

this is probably the safest campus you will every step on to, its actually annoying because you can find for self in trouble for many different things.
