    Am learning a lot

I don't really know how to talk about this section because different teachers/professors teach differently while we as students, learn differently.

There are some really good teachers at school. Some of the ones I've had have been there for 10+ years..

One teacher I have tends to trail off, get long-winded or lose track of time so I feel like they talk so much we don't get much done.

All teachers have their office hours which, in my experiences, they are happy to help you. Keep your appointments if you should make any with your teachers/advisor though. That's important.

    Am enjoying being here

I like being here mainly because its away from home. My high school friends pretty much fell off the face of the Earth my freshmen year so all of my friends are here. Its pretty easy to become bored but its not so bad when being bored with friends- you find something to do.

Like any college campus, there are parties. They aren't really big and most times only know about them if you are in the loop.

The classrooms aren't too far from the dorms and apartments. Last year I lived in Old Cannon, soo close to my classes. This year I live in Beam and its a little ways away but not too bad. (Old cannon is one of the dorms and Beam is one of the apartments.)

Overall its not that bad, there's just nothing to do a lot of the times.

    Bang for the buck

The price to attend is pretty much ridiculous considering the facilities AND considering there are no 24 hr buildings or food places. The school has been around since 1896 and I feel that it shows. Changes and upgrades are being made but maybe the most important ones are not.

There are some good teachers at Wingate; some who have been there for years and years. This is my second year and one of my teachers, who is also my advisor, has helped me out a lot. Not only did he help me with my school but had a listening ear when I needed someone to talk to.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do visits! The visits are VERY important when it comes to choosing a school. You get to see the campus, get the feel of the campus..taste the food, look in on classes.

Scholarships! If you attend this school, unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, scholarships will be SO helpful. Especially during times like last semester where the NC Legislature voted to lower their funding by $100. It may not seem like a lot but when it comes down to it and you don't have it, it will seem like so much more.

Get an on-campus job, work-study related or not. If you have trouble meeting people, which I don't, this would be a great way to help that. My first year, I worked at the Klondike as a cashier now I know just about everyone on campus =) Also this helps with tuition or just pocket change.

If you want to bring your car as a freshman, you can. I know that's important to some people.

Great for these types of students

    Students who:

    ...like mid-size campuses
...don't want to be far from home, not too close/not to far
    ...don't do much partying
...like to walk (restaurants, convenient stores, and a Food Lion close by)
...are planning on going into the Health field

    Am learning a lot

Even though Wingate has a small teacher to student ration it is incredibly hard to get one on one attention from some teachers. Thank goodness for free tutors!

    Am enjoying being here

Most of the time it is a great place to be, but it is pretty boring around here. Everything is a drive away and then there really isn't to much to do. If you are looking for a busy school with tons of places to hang out Wingate may not be for you.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition just went up making the school almost unaffordable for a lot of students, however we were each offered a personal loan we could take out and repay 6 months after graduation... as If we don't already have loans.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose wisely, Wingate defiantly has the small town appeal. If that's what your looking for.

    Did learn a lot

The professors I had were really great about getting hands-on, real world experiences. There will always be classes that are solely lecture-based, but my classes were very interactive, going out into the field and actually doing stuff.

    Did enjoy being here

It was the perfect fit for me. The student to teacher ratio is 14:1 and the campus is small, around 1,800 students (2,300 including graduates), so you get to know people on campus, but it's not so small where you feel as though you see the same people all the time. Not a big party school, but was fun to apartment-hop on the weekends and hang out with a lot of different people.

    Bang for the buck

Parking, laundry, career services, printing, and lots of other amenities are all free, but tuition has increased for the past few years. And the Internet is terrible, although it's high-priority to get fixed. I loved living in an apartment for 3 years and in a dorm for only freshman year.

    Tips for prospective students

Go on a tour. Ask lots of questions about every aspect of campus life. You can't spend the night with a current student, but you can eat in the dining facilities, attend classes, and meet with professors -- just make sure you let Admissions know in advance.

Great for these types of students

    Ones who like one-on-one attention
    Want a small, Southern school
Want to get involved with multiple things on campus (I was an editor of the newspaper my sophomore year)
Who don't want to be in the city - Charlotte's an hour away

Wingate is a great environment to learn in. The student to teacher ratio is helpful because unlike other universities, Wingate teachers actually remember your name. Also, Wingate offers free tutors for basically any subject.

    Am enjoying being here

The school and surroundings are great! It is so easy to make friends and you can always find something fun to do! The fact that everything is close by is also great. Restaurants are a few miles away and Charlotte is fairly close, too.

    Bang for the buck

The price is probably the only bad thing about Wingate. One of the main reasons that half the students are at Wingate is due to scholarships. Most students probably could not afford it without some sort of scholarship.

Great for these types of students

Wingate is great for students who learn better one-on-one and in small classrooms. Wingate is also in between cities and rural so students who want a little bit of both would enjoy Wingate.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus has everything you need and there are so many cool places surrounding the school in the downtown area, everything from malls to the towns carnival.

    Tips for prospective students

The school is getting bigger and their building new buildings along with a new legacy, why not be apart of it.

Great for these types of students

If you know how to have FUN and study.

The teachers are great. College is completely different from high school. When you choose a major, you take the classes you want to take.

    Am enjoying being here

I like the school, but Res life does nothing to help settle roommate disagreements.

    Bang for the buck

Wingate is very expensive. There are newer buildings, but most of the amenities are old and run down looking. The school is working on updating, but they seem to be spending more money on landscaping than other more important aspects.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to visit campuses and apply to every scholarship you can find. This school is very expensive, but with the help of scholarships it become manageable. Get to know your RA; problems with your roommate are certain to arise and the RA will help mediate.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who like small schools and want to be involved.

    Will learn a lot

After sitting in on numerous classes and hearing from friends who are already attending, it's a great place to be if you thrive in a smaller, close-knit environment! The teachers genuinely care if you are there in class and they know you by name. With a variety of courses, it wouldn't be hard to find something you might enjoy studying.

    Will enjoy being here

It's a beautiful campus! There are so many opportunities on the campus, as well as off and I believe that there is a nitch for anyone who desires to be involved! I LOVE the campus, the people there and well, everything about it! It has a sweet, southern charm.

    Bang for the buck

While the tuition is usually a huge determining factor for many families, Wingate strives to make the daunting amount seem less daunting. Almost every student there receives AMAZING scholarships and financial aid packages. My single mother has a small income for the two of us and we've barely been making it. But, Wingate has helped so much with getting the financial part of it taken care of. If you think about it, you get quality education, one on one attention from professors and staff, the ability to be a person and not a number, and endless resources and growth opportunities - isn't your future worth it?

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit campuses as much as you can! You think you may like the idea of a small campus, or a large campus. But, you won't truly know until you visit. I had a feeling that Wingate was right for me...and immediately upon arriving, I felt so at home. They welcome you with smiling faces and your name is practically plastered everywhere! I knew then that that was where I wanted to be. It feels like a family/friend kinda place there.

Great for these types of students

Students who thrive with one on one attention as well as hands on learning. The classes are small so it allows for more flexibility on the professors end of teaching. It's great for students who don't like LARGE crowds, etc. Anyone who is looking for a close-knit feel, this is the place for you!

    Am learning a lot

Through my first year at Wingate University, I was able to learn a great deal. The professors were great and were willing to spend extra time with students who needed a little more instruction. Wingate University is a great school and any student who chooses to attend this fine university will definitely become more knowledgeable.

    Am enjoying being here

Wingate University has a beautiful campus with friendly peers and staff. On my first day, I was able to meet new friends in my classes. Wingate also offers many activities to get involved in, such as sporting events, movies on the lawn, and club meetings. Wingate has plenty of activities for a variety of people with different interests.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is slightly on the expensive side compared to other schools; however, it is a very prestigious school. Future employers would love to have an employee to graduate from a school such as Wingate. Therefore, you get a big bang for your buck.

    Tips for prospective students

The first tip would be to get familiar with the campus so you know the shortest ways to get from classroom to classroom. Next, make sure to find good friends to help you through the year. Finally, make sure you do not get behind. It will be a lot harder for you to play catch up, so make sure to stay ahead of the game.

Great for these types of students

If your a student who likes a small campus with a small student to teacher ratio, then you will love Wingate University. It is a fine school and you will not regret attending here.

Some teachers are great and some are not. Studying is required to be able to learn and understand. Many teachers are willing to help during their office hours. Don't be afraid to ask them questions. If it doesn't work out, there is always free tutoring at the school. These are very beneficial for you.

    Am enjoying being here

The school does not always have things to do during the weekend. That is where friends come to play. Find friends that stay during the weekend and enjoy your day by hanging out. Charlotte is not too far from the school, so there is always places to go.

    Bang for the buck

One problem about this school is the price of a private school. It is a very great school, but it cost a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

    -Visit the school
-Do not be afraid to make friends(many students are very kind)
-Understand that school comes first, before partying or hanging out
    -Be involved in the school

Great for these types of students

-Willing to study at a private school that cost a lot
    -Rural setting
    -Involved in extracurricular
-Small ratio between teachers and students
    -Small university

The classes are small therefore you are able to have a lot of one-on-one time with your teachers. Use that to your benefit!

    Am enjoying being here

Wingate definitely is a small town, and there is not much to do. It is a pretty boring town so I go home almost every weekend.

    Bang for the buck

Since Wingate is a private school, tuition is very expensive. My scholarship covers a lot of the tuition, but I still need to take out some loans.

    Tips for prospective students

Please take a tour before committing to Wingate...a small school is not for everyone!

Great for these types of students

    Intelligent! =)
