Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not only do you learn about your field of interest, but you also learn how to interact with so many different types of people. Winthrop is all about diversity!
Am enjoying being here The cultural events that are held on campus are very enjoyable. You can learn from them and have a great time at the same time. Impossible? Nah!
Bang for the buck At Winthrop, you will get your money's worth. the campus is beautiful, the facilities are outstanding, and the basketball/baseball/'whatever sport you're into' are free to attend!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I never thought I'd learn so much pursuing a Computer Science degree from a liberal arts college. The classes are small so you receive individual attention from teachers who really care, and are more than willing to meet with you after class to help you with anything.
Am enjoying being here I have never had better relationships with teachers as I have had in my first two semesters here.
Bang for the buck A teacher I had my first semester here said, Winthrop is like the beauty parlor of SC universities. You get private school attention for a public school price. It's a small school and the teacher to student ratio is very comforting.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your advisor.
Great for these types of students Prospective teachers, art majors, biology majors

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am truly learning a lot from being here. Had it not been for the professors, I don't think my experience would have been this easy. They are willing to help you one on one whenever you don't understand and they offer tutorial sessions when needed. They are so approachable and make you feel as though you are an integral part of the already diverse campus. The classes are not all easy, but after a few hours of studying, they become more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being here. If you are a student that prefers a smaller class setting, then this is the school for you. Here, at Winthrop, you are not just a face amongst the crowd. The intimate atmosphere of the school ensure that you get the type of one on one attention to may need. In order to get the really most out of going here, a car would be a tremendous help, but it is not necessary, because Winthrop provides on-campus events almost every weekend, so students will never be bored.
Bang for the buck As for aesthetic value, Winthrop is definitely worth it! The historic construction of the buildings make you cherish the school even more. The campus is truly beautiful. If you ever get tired of cafeteria food, there are plenty of place near campus that suit your fancy. =)
Tips for prospective students Try to make friends with almost everyone you meet, because the new faces may be the faces that make it far into your future.
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK IN CLASS!
Also, become close with your professor's, it will be a lot easier for you at the end of the semester. If they know you from the first day, then they monitor your progress a little more closely and it helps you stand out in class.Great for these types of students This school seems to be mainly based on those who want to go in to the teaching field. So if you think education is going to be your area of expertise, then Winthrop is definitely the choice you need to make.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is a wide variety of classes to choose from. All the teacers are dedicated and since the classes are smaller they pay attention to you and are willing to help you. Winthrop expects a lot out of the students and push the students to do well.
Am enjoying being here I love the dorms, and it gives a huge sense of community, and independence. The campus is safe, and easy to navigate. Plus there is always something to do on campus.
Bang for the buck This school is expensive, but it is among the highest rated in the south and has a high employment rate.
Tips for prospective students Do not go to Winthrop looking for a drunk fest, because this is a actual school and it is hard and requires actual commitment.
Great for these types of students Great for students who like smaller close knit schools.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At Winthrop I’m not only learning what I will need to know to be successful in my career one day, I’m learning about life, people, and myself. In dealing with my roommates I’ve learned how to handle conflict. From my professors, I’m learning that I have no limits, and I can go as far as I push myself. Even in my minor I am learning how talent, hard work, and commitment can get you where you want to go.
Am enjoying being here I love being at Winthrop. The campus is beautiful, the students are driven and creative, and the faculty is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to bettering their students.
Bang for the buck Like I said, the professors are highly experienced, and in many cases acclaimed in their fields. Plus, the class sizes are small. As a student at Winthrop you get one on one attention from the best of the best.
Tips for prospective students Talk to people. It's easy to make friends if you just talk to them, and professor's really appreciate students who speak up in class. Ask questions. Winthrop loves critical thinkers. When you have something to say, there is someone to listen.
Great for these types of students Winthrop's classes are challenging, but they are completely worth it. If you are driven, excited about your future, and ready to work hard, we want you, and you'll do well here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The mistakes that I have made at Winthrop have helped me to grow and become a better college student.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at Winthrop because the people are nice, the professors actually care and help students who are in need.
Bang for the buck The money you pay to go to Winthrop is worth it if you are dedicated to your work and actually learn what the professors are trying to teach you.
Tips for prospective students There are only 5 things you need to know to survive at Winthrop.
1: check your email, important things that a Winthrop students need to know are sent through email, so check your email daily
2: DO YOUR WORK!! I can't stress how important it is to do your work. It is so easy to get behind in classes because it is REALLY HARD to get back on track.
3: Get involved in extra curriculum activities on campus. Getting involved is more important than you think, when your grade point average is doing so well, you'll have extra curriculum activities to fall back on.
4: If you need help, don't be to afraid to ask your professors. Remember, NO QUESTION IS A DUMB QUESTION.
5: Try to get a job if you can, unless you have cash flow from somewhere else. Having money at Winthrop will help you tremendously.
If you follow these 5 simple rules you will be a succesful college student.Great for these types of students Winthrop is a great school for people who want to go into the education field.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am going into my 4th year and have learned an outstanding amount of information on anything and everything. My classes are intense and force you think outside the box. The teachers like to give a general guideline to the lecture and then have the students take it from there so that they make themselves think further than just what the text book has to say. My general course work has been great and has helped me become a better student in my own field of study. The education department here is fantastic. They really give you chance to be in the field and have the experience with teacher other than just the student teaching. The teachers in the department are always willing to help you learn more and understand more especially when it comes to helping you to learn to teach better.
Am enjoying being here Winthrop has a marvellous campus. The scenery is always in tip top shape. The people are so diverse and in both culture and education that you cannot help but to get into conversations with random people when waiting for your next class to start. Teachers are fantastic and always willing to make sure that students are learning. The school is not centered around sports which means that academics come first. Class sizes for the most part are small and gives a better opportunity for the students to learn better and have one on one time with the teachers.
Bang for the buck For the education department you cannot get any better than Winthrop for money. Winthrop is rated as one of the leading South Eastern Teaching colleges and we can back it up. We get experience from day one in the classrooms of local schools with real teachers and students. As you become more established in the field and understanding of the education program you truly understand why Winthrop is rated so highly.
Tips for prospective students Always do your reading assignments. Even if you do not talk about it in class does not mean you won't be tested on it. I had a proffessor that did lecture and never refered to anything in the book. I failed the first test because half the test came from the book. Also, learn how to bargain hunt for books. Either have a friend you has already had the class leaned you their book, become buddies with someone in the class, or do like I do and buy the edition before the one the teacher wants (unless it is a math class). Books relatively stay the same from edition to edition with statistics changing. If you have a previous edition you will be okay on the readings just get with a classmate to make sure all the statistics and terms are correct or have not been added too. Learn where quick spots to grab food are on campus between classes or carry lots of snacks to get you through until you can get a meal. You don't always have time to stop at the cafeteria for lunch before your next class. Don't waste your money at the vending machines either. Walgreen's is in walking distance (everyday I did this), go grab snacks and drinks there weekly or daily to carry with you during the day so your not wasting those much needed quarters at the ball game later that day.
Great for these types of students Great for all students. We are a student body of almost all cultures and backgrounds. From the students alone, I have talked to me Arabic, Afghan, Asian, and many more (even someone from Egypt). We have so much fun debating topics from religion to what is on TV for children between classes you won't see each other for weeks but the next time you do you pick up right where you left off. ( I have been late to class because of these discussions).

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not only am I learning a lot from professors teaching my major, but professors teaching general education classes also have a way of drawing you in and making classes interesting so that you get the most of it!
Am enjoying being here Winthrop is an amazing university. I actually started out at a different college and was not happy there and then switched to Winthrop. I am SO glad that I did!
Bang for the buck The campus is absolutely gorgeous and it has everything you could possibly want. It has an amazing gym with all sorts of fitness equipment and rooms for various activities. It has a nice cafeteria and extra food court in Dinkins with a wide variety. We have a movie theater and lots of space outdoors for group activities or playful sports.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in as much as possible because it gives you multiple opportunities to meet new people. This is going to be important because one you get to a new place it can feel quite lonely, but getting to know the people around you will make college life much more comfortable!
Great for these types of students Winthrop is great for everyone!

Am enjoying being here School-wise Winthrop is a great school, they always have something to do. The dorm are clean and so are the bathrooms. The cafe and new DiGiorgio Campus Center adds to the list of things to do.
Bang for the buck im very glad i choose this school because for the amount of money you pay its worth it. the school has a great rep that will follow you very where you go in south carolina.
Tips for prospective students always carry cash with you because you will never know when you need it. and when you register for your second semester just wait until everyone else has finished, you will still get the classes you need. there's this thing called eagle express, kind of like a campus grocery store, when between the hours of 11 and 5 you can get a quick lunch when your in a hurry to class.
Great for these types of students those who want to be able to study but like to party on rare occasions, its not far from charlotte for those who want to really have some fun on the weekends. also there are three clubs in rock hill that many winthrop students go to.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With smaller class sizes, I feel that I'm learning a lot and more efficiently that friends I know at larger Universities. Professors are always open to questions and constantly stress that their office are meant to give us the help that we need to succeed.
Great for these types of students Winthrop Univeristy is great for the student who wants a smaller school and class size but still wants the amenities of a larger school! Movies on campus are only two dollars, the West Center offers equiptment and group workout classes that are fun for no fee, and theres always interesting and educational cultural events which can range from concerts to lectures. Theres always something interesting to do during the week, just remember you have to study too! Also theres great programs like the Writing center and Math lab where you can schedule appointments to get help from older students trained in tutoring. Theres so many opportunities for fun and success here, you just got to take them!

The professor's are all very knowledgeable on the subjects they teach, and easy to get along with which is a plus. This is a great place for first time college students to learn and gain responsibility.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared! The work is hard, but not overbearing.

Food and Dining Winthrop has some of the best selections of food available. I never had to leave campus during the day.
What to do for fun There are always fun events at the DIGS campus center. The theater department is almost always putting on a show. And, the campus arranges shuttles to and from downtown for students convenience to athletic events and other activities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop is a very wonderful school. Your just not a number here you are a person. Winthrop has very high credentials.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. College is what you make it. If you plan to do nothing but just sit around then college will be boring. But if you get up and be productive college will be an exciting experience.
Academic Rigor The academics here are very well. Winthrop is ranked very high in the South East region in college ranks
Dorm Life The dorms here are awesome. There are plenty of choices for you to pick from. Community style, Suite Style, Apartment style.
Food and Dining We have plenty of food choices to choose from here on campus. We have a cafe you could eat at. And we also have restaurants where we could eat also.
What to do for fun This school has so many events on the weekend it is like they are trying to keep you from going anywhere during the weekends and even the weekdays. This is excellent so you will never be bored with nothing to do.
Bang for the buck I made a whole lot of friends here. A whole lot of people are so friendly. This is a very cool-calm place to be. The teachers are very nice too. They are very open to help students with class. Winthrop has a bunch of study programs and tutors to help students with. They do not want you to fail. They would rather see you succeed and what you do. They are preparing for not only getting a job but for keeping a job also. That is why I love Winthrop University so much. I wouldn’t change anything about it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have Cultural Events; you have to have so many of them to graduate from here. They are very excited to attend.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who do not like large amount of students in classrooms. The average classroom is around 20-25 students.
Clubs and Activities There are over 175 clubs and organizations to choose from here at Winthrop University
Greek Life Greek Life is a big part of this campus. You should join one if you are able to.
Campus Safety The campus is very safe.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a senior Integraded Marketing Communication major at Winthrop University. I began Winthrop as a Graphic Design major and switched majors about a year ago. I have learned so much from both careers. Graphic design ended up giving me great visual skills which has been benefitual in IMC. In IMC I have learned about all the fields in communications from PR, to media writing and advertising. I was given the opportunity to help organize and plan the Mass Communication Recognition Dinner, which gave me insight on the importance of organization in the field.
Am enjoying being here Winthrop has a beautiful campus. With the new Student Center, students are able to have everything they need right in the center of campus. Starbucks at the Student Center has become my daily study spot. I don't like campuses that are very spread out; Winthrop's campus is all within walking distance. It is a great environment, and there are always things to do on campus.
Bang for the buck I have had great teachers and have learned so much so far in my 3 years at Winthrop University. The classes are small enough where you are able to form relationships with your teachers, and they are also there for help. Many of the departments offer tutoring in any fields you may be struggling in. I know what I have learned so far at Winthrop will benefit me once I enter the workforce.
Tips for prospective students Get involved when you enter college. There are a ton of organizations to choose from at Winthrop. Find one that best fits you and get involved!
Great for these types of students Winthrop is a great school for students who want a great education and professors who care. The school truly cares about your success.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Winthrop is a great university to learn things both in and outside your major. It is known for it's brilliant education department but they have excellent other departments as well. Each department is supportive and the entire faculty wants you to succeed. I'm a psychology major and I wouldn't want to study anywhere else.
Am enjoying being here Winthrop has recently added more to its already beautiful campus. The gym is huge and has a lot of things for students to do such as archery, racquetball, and fencing! We just got a new student center and food court and to be honest I eat and hang out there everyday.
Bang for the buck Let's face it the recession we are currently going through is awful, but Winthrop is trying to do it's best to help it's students pay for college and get the most out of their money.
Tips for prospective students Do not fret about the course load. If you passed high school in good standing then you can make it at Winthrop. That does by no means mean that Winthrop is easy. It is college after all and the class are challenging at times but the professors try to get to know you and that helps out a lot.
Great for these types of students Students who want to learn within their field and outside of it because there are a lot of extra curricular activities and class you can take that can go toward your degree. If you want a fun college experience and a fulfilling academic career then go to Winthrop University.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop University is a great school. The campus is beautiful and artistic. I love the classroom sizes, they're small and similar to high school classes except its college and you get a more elite education out of it.
Tips for prospective students Always remember that academics is second to none. Study hard and maintain a rational gpa if you have scholarships. Winthrop is far from cheap. Enjoy your time there & excel.
Academic Rigor The academic program at winthrop is great. A degree from Winthrop is legit. Winthrop has positive academic perspectives.
Dorm Life The dorms are okay. The only con about the dorms are the guest visitation hours. Its limited for selected dorms.
Food and Dining The food started out great, but as the year goes on; it gets tiring & repetitive.
What to do for fun For fun, I use the recreation center, attend parties, hang out with friends, and spend time in various organizations.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop University has very diverse students. Everything you could want is within walking distance. The school work is challenging, but not overwhelming.
Tips for prospective students Don't transfer after the first semester, everyone hates their first semester here. The workload may seem like a lot at first, but it gets easier to manage
Academic Rigor The workload is challenging, but not unmanageable. The faculty is ready to help whenever they are needed. Also, other students are usually willing to help because they have the same academic goals.
Dorm Life The dorms are clean and well kept. The outside doors are kept locked tight and one has to swipe their ID twice to get inside which gives the students a sense of safety.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is not so great, however at the student center there is a plethora of good food to choose from. Popeyes chicken is the favorite among my peers.
What to do for fun The student center has xboxs, ping pong tables, and pool tables. One can take a quick walk to the Winthrop Lake or go play tennis by the Winthrop Eagles Stadium.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor Winthrop can be challenging but I would highly recommend going and talking to the Professors in their office hours. It can definitely make a difference in your grade and they are always willing to work with you. I would also recommend going to the Academic Success Center for extra help. Also when trying to study, it's easy to just stay in your dorm and study but I've found that getting out of the room is so much better than staying in your dorm all the time.
Dorm Life The dorms are a typical dorm at your typical college. Nothing too special but they are livable.
Food and Dining Thomson Cafe, the only cafeteria on campus might be the worst food you will ever have.
Greek Life Greek Life is very active on campus. It's the only thing we really have going for us. So if your not in a fraternity or if your not in a sorority your not really known on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop University, to me, is the best of all universities because it teaches students to do just as the motto says - Live, Learn, and Lead. I've been attending this school for just a year, and I've already joined organizations and became involved in the community. This is the perfect environment for a student that is willing to learn.
Tips for prospective students Worries of not fitting in will soon vanish while at this school. You'll feel like you're part of an even bigger family.
Academic Rigor Not many college courses are going to be easy, but the plus for Winthrop is the professors are willing to help inside and outside the classroom. This makes it easier for one to understand course material if he is having problems in class.
Dorm Life This is a very positive factor when it comes to Winthrop. Residence Assistants are looked at as big brothers/sisters, helping in many ways. Also, the cleanliness of the dorms is always kept up.
Food and Dining The Cafe' is great. It's buffet-style, so you would enjoy that. They also offer vegetarian choices everyday at lunch and dinner. Also, the Digorgio Center has a center called Markley's, which includes Popeye's, Zoca's (taco place), Topio's (pizza), Burger Studio (personalized burgers), and China Express. This can be used with Cafe Cash and is also great.
What to do for fun Winthrop always have something going on. Most of the time, there are cultural events. For fun, organizations hold certain mixers on-campus as well as carnivals. Closer down from campus is a movie theater, bowling alley, skating rink, and park. Also, athletic people spend most of their free time in our West Center gym, which accomodates students with work-out equipment, a pool, and rock-climbing, all for free.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop University has a lot to offer to every student that would want to come here! It is a great campus that offers a lot both for students to meet others as well as grow as students! The professors are great and are willing to help you succeed which is a huge aspect for many students trying to pick a school to attend!
Tips for prospective students Come to Winthrop if you feel that you succeed best in a smaller college, close campus, and students that are going to take the time to get to know each other. The campus is beautiful and have always heard great things from other students.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of the school is really what you make it as a student. The requirements for students are what you would expect from any other student, but the real aspect is if you actually do the work. There are some classes that the requirements are too much and some professors do not understand that we as college students do have other classes to take. But overall, I feel that my knowledge has been challenged and I am learning a lot, and still have a lot to learn.
Dorm Life The dorm life at Winthrop is good! As a freshman, the rooms were pretty big with a hall bathroom that everyone shared. That was not bad because it got cleaned on a regular basis and it was not by you! Sophomore year, dorm life was okay, sharing a bathroom two other girls is a little hectic. Make sure you get two girls that you know and like! The Resident Assistants are most of the time there for you but sometimes you have to fix problems on your own. The buildings are old and falling apart in some rooms, but for the most part they are pretty good. If you are coming in next year there is a new building being built and from what I heard it is going to be nice. In the dorms for freshman, there is a girls dorm and a guys dorm, but Winthrop has so many more girls that the girls had to use some of the floors in the guys dorms.
Food and Dining The food at Winthrop is okay! There are a lot of options that you can choose from and if you cant find something, there is something else to choose from. The student center has other options if the actual cafe does not have anything you like. It all is a little pricey, but if you buy a meal plan, you should be good! Make sure that you buy enough meal plans to last you through the week. Breakfast is probably Thomson's strong meal!
What to do for fun For fun, my friends and I really enjoy going to the Winthrop Lake and laying out on beautiful sunny days. There a mall that is rather close, it is not the best mall, but it is there. Pineville mall is not too far away and neither is Carowinds! I believe it is about thirty minutes total! There are of course campus parties to attend, but you have to be careful and make sure that you follow the rules that go with partying. The cops are always on the look out so that is something to watch for. There are things that you can find to do, but you might have to be creative!
Great for these types of students If you enjoy the arts, music, and other liberal arts, you would fit in great! We have a huge drama program and there are always plays going on. You can hear students playing instruments and singing as you walk down Scholars walk. For the arts and designer majors, the campus has art displays all around. Students work is constantly displayed around campus so others can see what they are doing. Also, if you wish to become a teacher in the future, the teaching program here is great! A lot of students are able to get good jobs with a degree in teaching from here!
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs and activities that you can participate in at Winthrop! There are sports clubs all the way to theatre clubs. There is most definitely some type of club that you could join in! There are also a lot academic clubs that you can join in that look really good on resumes, etc. Winthrop also requires you to go to Cultural Events to graduate. There are cultural events constantly being offered and a lot of them are entertaining!
Greek Life For the people that do Greek Life, they love it! There are always greek activities going on around campus, collecting money to help their philanthropy's, etc. People are always talking very highly and positively about the greek life. If it is something you are interested in, there are many different greek life affiliations that you can choose to be in. There is sure to be one that you will fit best in.
Campus Safety Campus Safety is pretty good! There have been about two incidents since I got here but there is always going to be something going on. There are emergency polls all around campus that you are able to press a button and a campus police officer will be there soon. I have never felt unsafe around campus and that makes me as a student happy. As full-time students, we are going to library late at night, staying in computer labs late, going to the gym, and just being out after dark. Having a good campus safety is important to know that our campus is constantly being monitored and protected. There is no joking with parking and where you can park, tickets are passed out often, and with drinking on campus, it is not taken lightly. These are all good, because there are rules you are supposed to follow, and by not following them, you know that there are consequences that will be followed.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Winthrop University, located in Rock Hill, SC, is the prime beauty of the city. With liberal arts being the focus, you will study everything before you study your major. It is a very hard school, but it will be worth it when you graduate.
Tips for prospective students If you attend Winthrop University, make sure you GO TO CLASS. The professors are strict on attendance, and it is very very VERY important that you go. Also, do not procrastinate. If you want to do well at WU, you need to stay on task and not fall behind. It may take a year to get back on track.
Academic Rigor It is a very difficult school, academic-wise. The professors are tough and have extremely high expectations of the students. If you are in for a challenge, you chose the right school.
Dorm Life Having lived in two residence halls at Winthrop, I can say that the only faulty aspect about it is the employees. The student employees are often very bias of their residents. If they do not like you or have some strange reason not to like you, based on heresy, for example, they will get you in trouble at any cost.
Food and Dining In the DiGiorgio Student center, there is a multitude of restaurants to choose from. The best choice is Zoca's. Also, Thomson cafeteria has a nice selection of nutritious foods. The opening of Subway in Dinkins this year was a big deal for all Winthrop Students.
What to do for fun Rock Hill does not have anything to do for fun. If you want to have fun, you have to go to Charlotte or elsewhere.
Bang for the buck It seems as if Winthrop is always finding some petty reason to up the tuition. For example, when the DiGiorgio (DiGs, for short) Center was being built, the tuition upped a great amount. As a student, you feel like they will raise tuition for just about anything.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is not anything unusual about Winthrop University. There are myths about the Tillman building and other various buildings being haunted, but none of which have been proven.
Great for these types of students Hard working students are GREAT for Winthrop University.
Clubs and Activities There is a plethora of other organizations to choose from!
Greek Life WU has an exceptional Greek Life! They have great philanthropies and are almost always looking for ways to raise money. I would say over half the campus is Greek!
Campus Safety WUPO - Winthrop Police are always there if you need them. You just call them if you feel unsafe and they will be there for you. The only negative thing about them is that with our limited parking spaces, the WUPO will write you a ticket in a matter of seconds if you park in the wrong spot.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences winthrop university is a good school, but a bit over priced in my opinion. it is very small, and after awhile you start to see the same people everyday. this is a good school for those of you who want to become a teacher, or so i've heard.
Tips for prospective students really research your major and the courses offered at winthrop. i went in as a history, but did not look into it enough before i arrived. i am now transferring.
consider the costs and if its really worth it. budgeting should become your best friend.Academic Rigor the class, at least the ones i've taken, aren't so bad. they can seem hard a first but all you have to do is read the textbook and study and you'll be fine. it will be easy if you do those two things.
there are some lame classes, but its just the teacher a majority of the time. try to read reviews about the teacher before you sign up for the class.Dorm Life i've staying in wofford (which is the all girls dorm) and richardson (co-ed). both are okay. the bathrooms can get pretty nasty though because the cleaning ladies don't come by on weekends. in richardson, its worse, because sometimes they dont restock toilet paper/paper towels. its bearable. being around your friends 24/7 makes it easier.
Food and Dining thompson, the main cafeteria, is gross. the food is okay, but on weekends a lot of the time there's barley any food out and what is out seems old. during the week its better, but the food is only slightly better than high school cafeteria food. its a very good day if thompson has good food. the eagle express is expensive. its a small convenience store that charges $7 for a box of cereal. id rather drive to walmart.
the dig's is the digorgio student center. they have popeyes, a random mexican and pizza place, a burger station and some asian food. the mexican one is gross. but to each their own. einsteins bagel is amazing, but its not open all the time. What to do for fun they have events on campus you can go to for a small price. there is also the theater on campus but its not worth $2. its just projected from a laptop and the screen is stretched and crappy.
the west center is fun. thats the gym, it has everything from rock climbing to racket ball.
charlotte is 20min away and it has everything. concord mall is popular. its also huge so make that an all day trip. carowinds, the amusement park is close too, so if you still have money after tuition you should go. the area surrounding the campus sucks. drive downtown for everything.
there is one club across the street called the money. i dont like it, its small and screams disease. but people still go.Clubs and Activities they're fun, but dont seem to do much.
Campus Safety the police are always patrolling. i feel very safe on campus a majority of the time, and im always walking back to my dorm late.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the school feels like the perfect middle - not too small, not too big. there are tons of majors to choose from. it's really easy to get involved (clubs, sports, etc).
Tips for prospective students start mapping out your academic plan - what classes you will take and when. it will save you a lot of pain and difficulty down the road.
Academic Rigor in a lot of the lower level classes, the teachers really will just walk you through it step by step. you will get out of your classes what you put into them. if you don't want to learn and become educated on the subject, you can skate by. if you want to learn, you have to put in the extra effort.
Dorm Life there are a lot of on campus options, including some apartment-style dorms that are nice and affordable.
Food and Dining the cafeteria is pretty average, but what sets winthrop apart in my mind is all the other options - subway, popeyes, topios (pizza), burger studio, etc are all available with cafe cash (or just cash, debit, etc).
What to do for fun if you don't get involved, get out there, and meet people - not a whole lot. but once you start putting yourself out there you'll find there's a lot of things to do on campus.
Great for these types of students more academic oriented than sports oriented. people who don't want to be a number but also want to be able to blend in a little.
Clubs and Activities there are tons of options but a lot of the clubs really aren't all that active.
Campus Safety there have been some concerns in the immediate area, but the campus itself is well lit and you see the campus police around a lot.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences winthrop university is a great small school that is relatively inexpensive. they have great professors for the most part that really care about students succeeding. i have loved going there so far.
Tips for prospective students as for any college, make sure you try really well on the sat or act, but getting a low score will not deny one's acceptance. make sure to apply for scholarships and financial aid very early. continue senior year in high school with as much vigor as the last years. transferring students: credits transferring over to winthrop can be very difficult. if you are planning to go to a 2 year college, then winthrop make sure the credits can transfer.
Academic Rigor you have to read and work in your classes no matter what it is.
Dorm Life i live off campus, mostly because the dorm room are not very appealing
Food and Dining the cafe at winthrop is not at all amazing. some other things to eat such as starbucks or popeyes are good occasionally, but overall the food is not great.
Bang for the buck winthrop is relatively inexpensive and they have great professors.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences winthrop is full of very enthusiastic teachers, theatre kids, and churches.
Tips for prospective students not a party school.
Academic Rigor requires more work than high school but definitely do-able.
Dorm Life all of the dorms except for court yard(apartments) and phelps(newly renovated because of fire) are sub-par. it is very difficult to get into either of these.
Food and Dining thomson (cafeteria) is good during the week and digs (food court) is a good fast food option and accepts meal plan sun-thurs from 6pm-9pm on selected meals. fend for your self on the weekends.
What to do for fun winthrop features churches, a few sorrorities, and target. seems like this is all people do for fun. campus is empty on the weekend and students refer to the school as a day-camp because students are scarce at night and on weekends.
Bang for the buck other than some lab fees and a few classes whose books you must buy the winthrop edition from the bookstore, prices aren't bad.
Great for these types of students the school is tailored to the art and theatre/drama kids.
Campus Safety i could feel much safer here. a few of the parking lots are not actually on campus and a lot of crime happens there and with parking so scarce already you can't really afford to be picky. dorm security is good, though.

Am enjoying being here I love the diversity here; everyone is friendly and welcoming.
Bang for the buck Because of my great scholarships, Winthrop pays me to attend.
Tips for prospective students Learn to manage your time well. Just because you only have 3 classes a day, doesn't mean that you have a ton of free time. Learn to prioritize and you will be successful.
Great for these types of students Any student looking for small classes, a welcoming student body, and a beautiful campus would love it here.

I can tell u WU makes u feel very welcome, u feel at home and its a lot of fun. Everyone have so much school spirit! Am enjoying being here Winthrop is a wonderful and caring community. Everyone is so nice. Even when you are commuting, making friends is inevitable.
Bang for the buck Free personal trainers, Health and counseling, Free nurse visits (as long as no tests were done), Academic Success Center (Free tutoring), Many opportunities to decide what you want out of your college experience.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your advisors and become active in the Winthrop Community.

Will enjoy being here The campus is absolutely gorgeous, and everyone I've met has been smiling and helpful and genuinely nice. Not to mention free sporting events and lots of cultural experiences :)
Tips for prospective students If you're thinking about applying don't hesitate! They're really good about processing applications promptly and it's not difficult to get in.
Great for these types of students Winthrop is historically a teaching school so that's definitely the most common and fitting decision but it's good for other areas, too.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot All of the professors seem so knowledgeable of their subject area, and so ready and willing to give you the help you need and the best education possible. You're in classes that pertain to your major from day one. Of course there are the gen-ed classes sprinkled in, but you waste NO time getting the classes you need for the degree you want. No matter what your intended major is, you WILL get the education you want and deserve from Winthrop University.
Will enjoy being here I tell everyone that the second I stepped onto the grounds of Winthrop University it just felt right. I've been to Winthrop several times, both before and after I applied and was accepted and NEVER had a bad experience. Every one you come in contact with is open, friendly, and more than willing to lend a helping hand from the professors, to the students, and to the counselors. The campus has an out-of-this-world student center with a movie theatre, video games, TVs, ping pong tables, etc. so you can never be bored or without something to do. If you DON'T enjoy being at Winthrop, you just don't enjoy life.
Bang for the buck Every college is expensive, but not every college is worth the tuition you have to pay... And at Winthrop, that is NOT the case. At Winthrop you get what you pay for and you're paying for quality education. Once you graduate you will have learned every skill you could possibly ever need for the field you plan on going into. Winthrop is worth EVERY penny you pay to attend.
Tips for prospective students Don't come to Winthrop if you aren't willing to work. The classes are very rigorous to assure you're getting the best possible education and the professors do not take their subjects lightly.
Great for these types of students If you love a warm, welcoming, fun environment Winthrop is for you. The student body is incredibly diverse and is openly accepting of people from all walks of life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Regardless of the course, the student will gain an immense amount of information from each one dude to the high quality of staff.
Am enjoying being here Although very stressful at times, (not unlike other colleges), Winthrop is a very enjoyable college, with a beautiful campus.
Bang for the buck Very expensive due to the private school status, although the environment feels like a public school. We students tend to say that Winthrop is a public school at a private school price.
Tips for prospective students Get your study on. Quickly. If you come into Winthrop studying like a high school kid, you're not going to be too happy. The highly qualified staff here has a high standard, but if the student succeeds, lots of useful information can be gained.
Great for these types of students Liberal school, for liberal kids. Be out there, unique, yourself. If you are wanting to just blend into the crowd, then Winthrop is not for you. Diversity can be admired throughout the campus, and no one area has just one type of people.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My teachers have been nothing but help for me. I love it here and all of the professors know exactly what they are talking about. They are extremely willing to help you in anything you ask them. They love to hear questions from students and are very personable.
Am enjoying being here The campus is gorgeous. I fell in love with the campus as soon as I saw it and i knew it was the right thing for me. The buildings are all beautiful and the cafeteria is delicious. The teachers are great. The school over all is absolutely wonderful.
Bang for the buck My family is in the military and we were worried that i would not be able to get instate tuition but they gave me a 5,000 dollar refund check for an instate tuition waiver. Doesn't get much better than getting some money back :)
Tips for prospective students This school is small so if you are looking for a place that you can get around easily to then this is it. I would suggest living in the Margaret Nance dorms when you first get here just to help you get used to the college life and not being thrown into the dorms that are co-ed.
Great for these types of students Anything music related. This school is great for those types of kids.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor The courses are extremely difficult as you progress into your major, but you're actually learning a LOT of useful information. Sure, it may seem superfluous at times, but, if you keep working at it, you definitely come out with a thorough knowledge and understanding of your chosen major. I found that when I started to struggle more in my major, my professors and advisor were extremely willing to help and encourage me, too, which helped me get through it and appreciate what I learned so much more.
Am enjoying being here While the campus is absolutely beautiful and there are more than plenty of student organizations and clubs, Rock Hill is not exactly a college town or a town with things to do. For the most part, Winthrop is known as a suitcase college since most people end up going home every other weekend or so. Even with Charlotte so close, I'm not a big fan of getting around in that city.
Bang for the buck Yes, Winthrop is one of the more expensive public schools in the state, BUT you receive a top quality education, you learn work ethic, and you get to meet so many new people without becoming a number among hoards of students. Between all the opportunities to be involved on campus and the education that future employers love to see on a resume, Winthrop is definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students Realize that you are going to have to work hard to make it. Winthrop doesn't favor allowing students to graduate who don't know what they're doing in their field. If you put in some effort and really focus on why you're in college, you'll be fine!
Make as many friends as you can, and GET INVOLVED! There really is a lot of opportunity on campus, and the suitcase college stigma that hovered over the school my first year has already begun to disappear!Great for these types of students Business, Teacher education, Biology, Fine arts
