If you’re interested in a small, prestigious liberal arts setting, Amherst College may be right for you. Located in the city of Amherst, this Massachusetts college offers a picturesque New England campus, a small and driven student body, and one-on-one attention from professors. The proximity to the larger state school, UMass Amherst provides students with the opportunity to interact with more than just their classmates. Amherst students also remark that while they do their best to excel, they never feel pressured to compete with other students. Notable Amherst alumni include the 30th President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge, as well as novelists David Foster Wallace and Dan Brown.

If you’re looking for a bigger school, take a look at Boston University. Located in the vibrant and historic city of Boston, this school is home to almost 32,000 students. Students at BU enjoy an abundance of research and study-abroad opportunities, as well as a dedicated and distinguished faculty. Plus, they actually live in the city of Boston as opposed to on a separated, walled-off campus, which allows them to truly integrate themselves into the city. Some female students choose to attend women’s colleges, such as Wellesley College, located in Wellesley, MA.
