The Garden State has a number of fine institutions of higher learning. In fact, there are 59 colleges in New Jersey, 33 public and 26 private, offering a wide range of programs and majors. New Jersey has both small schools (defined as less than 2000 students) and "very large" ones (10,000 or more students) and everything in between, including community colleges, in urban and rural environments.
Probably the most well-known New Jersey college is Ivy League member Princeton University, which consistently ranks among the world's top colleges and universities. Princeton has a number of notable alumni and faculty who are pioneers in their respective fields and also boasts a beautiful campus in Princeton, New Jersey. With an acceptance rate of only 10%, it's also one of the most selective colleges in the country. Still, Princeton students consistently remark that all the work pays off, and rave about the staff, campus, and opportunities this New Jersey college has to offer.
If you're interested in a larger New Jersey college experience, take a look at Rutgers University. It has three campuses in Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden, housing approximately 11,000, 36,000, and 5,000 students respectively. Students remark that there is always something to do on campus, financial aid is outstanding, and while there is fun to be had, education comes first.
Monmouth University, located in West Long Branch, is home to about 6400 students. Monmouth's campus is an architectural gem, with beautiful historic buildings and monuments spread across a huge, green campus. Monmouth students also enjoy the proximity of the beach and the fact that not once in their Monmouth career are they required to sit in a lecture hall with more than 40 students. Small class size is a definite plus when it comes to getting the most out of your educational experience. Notable Monmouth alumni include Dwight Tierney, one of the founders of MTV.
