Blue and Gold Scholarship

Scholarship Description
The Chancellor’s Blue and Gold Scholarship Program was established by the University of California, Los Angeles in Fall 1998 to recognize the academic achievements of first year students attending Los Angeles County High Schools, which traditionally have sent few students to UCLA. Each scholar receives an award ranging from $1000 up to $5000 annually for four years. "Scholars are selected by the Office of Admissions. Students cannot apply for this scholarship." The Blue and Gold Scholarship Program has successfully completed its tenth year of excellence. The program now supports approximately 350 students and expenditures exceed $1,000,000. Also, the Student Affairs Development Office has solicited contributions to enrich the endowment pool for the Blue and Gold scholarships. Beginning with the Fall Quarter 2000, the Chancellor’s Blue and Gold Scholarship Program was expanded to include transfer students attending community colleges in the greater Los Angeles area. These students were offered a 2-year scholarship. The Blue and Gold Scholarship Society was established during the 1999-2000 academic year. Scholars can become better acquainted with one another and forge enduring friendships. Community service continues to be an integral part of the Chancellor’s Blue and Gold Program. Each scholar is asked to complete twenty hours of community service each year. Students have participated in a variety of University activities including recruitment and outreach, assisting in workshops, and returning to their alma mater to encourage other students to apply to the University of California.
