James E. Scripps Scholars

Scholarship Description
Scripps College offers merit-based academic scholarships, the James E. Scripps Scholarships, in the amount of half-tuition each year, renewable for four years. The James E. Scripps Scholars Program was established to recognize distinguished young women whose intellectual and personal promise will be best developed by the challenging liberal arts curriculum at Scripps. In awarding this scholarship the Admission Committee considers every aspect of a students' application, especially her academic performance and personal achievement. Additional financial assistance is available for James E. Scripps Scholars whose demonstrated financial need exceeds that of the scholarship award. To apply for the James E. Scripps Scholarships students must complete and return a standard application to Scripps College by November 1, 2007. They must be sure to check the box the Common Application Supplement indicating that they are applying for this scholarship. The Admission Committee will evaluate applications in December, and in mid-January will invite finalists to spend a weekend on campus. The weekend includes lectures, faculty meetings, tours, visits with current students, and other events to help applicants experience the full range of opportunities available at Scripps.
