Scholarship Description

SCHOLARSHIP for English Literature and Writing Students. The Thomas Binford Writing Scholarship is available for new students with a strong interest in writing. Preference is given to community college transfer students and English Literature and Writing majors; other applicants with a strong interest in writing will be considered on a funds-available basis. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS To apply for the Binford Writing Scholarship, applicants must: 1) Apply for admission to Marylhurst University and submit all grade transcripts. 2) Complete the Binford Writing Scholarship Application that accompanies this page, including the required written responses and letter of recommendation. 3) Submit application and attachments to the Financial Aid Office, Marylhurst University, 4) See website for this year's deadlines. Note: The deadline for this scholarship is one month earlier than the general University scholarship deadline. SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS The English Literature and Writing Scholarship Committee selects recipients based on the writing samples collected in a portfolio, academic excellence as demonstrated by grade transcripts (for example, a 3.25 GPA from community college work) and the quality and completeness of the Binford Writing Scholarship Application. Preference is given to community college transfer students; however, other new students and current Marylhurst University students may apply and applications will be considered subject to funds available. SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS Amounts vary; scholarships up to $4,000 per year are awarded based on full- or part-time enrollment. Typically two full scholarships and several partial scholarships are made per year. Awards are renewable up to two years for full-time enrollment and up to four years for part-time enrollment.
