Mission Statement
The mission is to serve in the Christian tradition the educational social, and cultural needs of its students—traditional and nontraditional—and to develop in them the desire and capacity for continuous intellectual and professional growth, leadership and service to others. Institutional priorities in the mission of the University are teaching, research, community service and commitment to moral and personal values.
Was established in 2002 by Dr. Lanelle G. Gafford of Jackson, Mississippi. The purpose of the fund is to honor Lannie E. Gafford, and to assist deserving young men and women who are pursuing an education at The University of Mississippi. The scholarship recipient will be a full-time student who is a resident of Northeast Mississippi with first preference being given to Union residents. Recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated academic ability and leadership potential. The scholarship will continue, based on annual review by the Council, until a degree is received.
