Department of Chemistry

Scholarship Description
Each year, the Pharmacia & Upjohn Company gives to the Southern University Chemistry Department an average of $5,000 to be used for scholarships for chemistry majors. Individual awards are valued at $500 per semester. Eligibility Chemistry majors of any classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) may apply for this scholarship. Serious consideration is given to entering freshmen who have a composite ACT score of at least 20 and a score of at least 20 on both the natural sciences and the mathematics portions of the ACT. The entering freshmen must also have a minimum overall high school GPA of 3.2/4.00 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all science and math courses taken. The awarding of scholarships to students at the rank of second-semester freshmen or above is based mainly on college GPA and letters of recommendation from science and math professors who have taught the student.
