The Dr. Ruth Marguerite Easterling Scholarship Fund
- Scholarship Description
- The Dr. Ruth Marguerite Easterling Scholarship Fund The Dr. Ruth Marguerite Easterling Fund was established in 1975 in honor of Ruth Marguerite Easterling. Dr. Easterling attended Tufts College for the premedical curriculum. She entered Tufts College Medical School in September, 1917, as one of two women in her class and one of the first black women to be admitted. After her graduation on June 20, 1921, she did her graduate work at the Metropolitan Hospital at New York. Her subsequent career included private practice and serving on the staff of the Tuskegee Veterans Hospital in Alabama, before returning as director of laboratories at Cambridge City Hospital. Among her professional accomplishments was her contribution in the research of the Hinton test for syphilis. The Easterling Fund supports scholarships and expanded educational and professional opportunities for traditionally underrepresented minority students at Tufts University School of Medicine.
