Fairfield University offers one merit scholarship program, the Magis Scholarship. Magis is a Jesuit term which means "more." The students who will be considered for this scholarship are those who have excelled academically, but who have made the most of the opportunities presented to them through high school, their community or their church. As recipients of a Fairfield University Magis Scholarship, students will be expected to go beyond the general academic requirements of Fairfield University to develop their intellects, as well as their bodies and spirits. Recipients will also be encouraged to give of their talents for the betterment of the world around them. The scholarship provides a $20,000 annual grant. Recipients of the scholarship would also have the opportunity to apply as a junior or senior for $1,500 to help fund an academic endeavor such as a research project or an internship. There is no separate application for the scholarship. All first year candidates for admission will be considered for the scholarship, whether they have applied as an early action or regular decision candidate. Decisions regarding the scholarship will be made at the time a student is admitted to the University. Approximately 70 Magis Scholarships will be awarded annually.
