Established in 1992 by the children of Charlie B. Jenkins. Affectionately known as “Mr. Charlie.” Jenkins was a strong supporter and advocate of education. He was a faithful contributor to the Gordon College Foundation. He had a 44-year career in banking with the C & S Bank of Thomaston. He was the bank’s president for 24 years. From 1945 to 1972 he served on the Upson County Board of Education and during that time he held the office of chairman and of vice-chairman. He was a charter member of the Thomaston Lions Club and he helped to form the club in 1940. He held membership in the club for 52 years. He was also one of the founders of the Thomaston-Upson County Chamber of Commerce. He was actively involved in the Upson County Industrial Bureau, Georgia Farm Sales. Corp., and the former Upson County Education and Recreation, Inc. (now known as the Recreation Commission).
