Scholarship Description
The Barry C. and Janet E. Burkholder Scholarship in Nursing was created by Barry and Janet Burkholder to promote the nursing profession and to give educational opportunities to students whose interest is to pursue a degree in nursing. Preference is given to an incoming freshman from Jackson County who has been accepted for admission into UNCW and has indicated an interest in pursuing a degree in nursing. Second preference is given to students from the western or mountain counties of North Carolina. If no recipient is identified in Jackson County or western North Carolina, the award may be given to an enrolled nursing student from North Carolina who meets the 3.00 GPA requirement. This is a merit scholarship that is renewable only to a Jackson County student, as long as the recipient continues to pursue a degree in nursing and maintains a 3.00 GPA. No application is required.
