Xavier Service Fellowships

Scholarship Description
Xavier Service Fellowships Admission Application Option: Early Action This full tuition, room and board, four-year fellowship is awarded to five incoming first-year students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, outstanding service to community, school, or church, and leadership in encouraging others to serve. Recipients of the fellowship perform regular community service during the academic year, and are expected to be leaders on campus in promoting awareness of and involvement in service opportunities. Selected fellows give part of their time to the promotion of service on the Xavier campus. All fellows are guided by their mentor as they reflect on their service experiences. Selection Criteria Preference is given to those students who have demonstrated exemplary involvement in volunteer service: that is, a superior level of in-depth service done with a quality and quantity which greatly exceeds what is expected by the applicant's school or church; have shown potential for leading other students in service; have attained a minimum score of 29 on the ACT composite or 1280 on the SAT; and who are in the top ten percent of their high school senior class. Xavier University's Scholarship Committee, composed of faculty, administrators, and student leaders, selects the recipients of the Service fellowships. Value of the Fellowships The service fellowship will cover the cost of the following items for four years: Full tuition (up to 20 hours per semester) Room and board Orientation fee, science laboratory fees and modern language laboratory fees Textbooks up to a maximum of $450 per semester . Retaining the Fellowship Recipients are expected to: Maintain a full-time status Achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the first year and 3.25 thereafter Perform a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer service per week during each of the four academic years Live in a campus residence hall Meet with the Fellowship mentor bi-weekly to reflect on the service experience .Service fellows may not hold a paying job during the academic year.
