Vessey Scholarship

Scholarship Description
A four year scholarship to one male of Lakota ancestry is given to commemorate the Centennial of the South Dakota Governorship of Robert S. Vessey and to commemorate the contributions of both the Vessey family and the Lakota Nation to the spirit of the State of South Dakota. The scholarship is intended to ensure that someone who would not be able to afford to go to college, or is unable to continue in college for financial reasons, be given a full scholarship to cover all tuition, fees and books for the 130 credits it takes to graduate. The student must maintain full-time status. The Scholarship is open to any male under the age of 35 living on the Pine Ridge or Cheyenne Reservations. To apply, the candidate must submit a letter of application in which the need for financial aid is demonstrated. The Letter of Application is to be sent to Billi Hornbeck in the Financial Aid Office and must be received prior to July 31, 2008 for Fall 2008 and January 1, 2009 for Spring 2009. The Scholarship will be awarded in 2008 and one in 2008. The Scholarship will be awarded in early August and mid-January.
