Scholarship Description
This award is designed to provide scholarships for first year freshmen with outstanding secondary school records. Selection is based on an applicant's high school scholastic record, character, activities, leadership ability, SAT or ACT scores and in some cases, evidence of financial need. Stipends for these awards generally range from $500 to $3,000 per year. Eligibility: This award is available only to entering freshmen who have not attended another college or university. Eligibility for need-based awards requires the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).Duration: Most Opportunity Awards are for one year but some are multi-year awards. Application: Entering freshmen can apply online using the ApplyTexas Application for Admissions and Scholarships. Applicants are notified during the month of March whether they received an award for the following Fall semester.* Deadline is December 1, 2008. Recipients of scholarships for $1,000 or more from Texas A&M University, who are not Texas residents, may be eligible to receive a waiver of non-resident tuition.
