Scholarship Overview
This scholarship is for LGBT individuals of color who are planning to pursue a career in journalism. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors or current undergraduate students who will attend a US community college or four-year university full-time; or undergraduate students who have been accepted for their first year at a US graduate school. For undergraduates, a declared major in journalism and/or communications is desirable but not required. Graduate students must be enrolled in a journalism program. Selection will be based on journalistic and scholastic ability. Applicants must also demonstrate an awareness of the issues facing the LGBT community and the importance of fair and accurate news coverage. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must provide a one-page resume and five work samples and write and publish a news story to tumblr of words and multimedia (must pick one story topic from a list of four).
