Scholarship Overview
This grant is for high school juniors and seniors who are current or former foster youth in California. To qualify for this grant, applicants must have established court dependency at anytime between the ages of 16 and 18, demonstrate financial need, and must not have reached their 22nd birthday as of July 1st of the award year. KinGap youth, adopted youth, guardian placement, and voluntary placement may not be eligible for the Chafee Grant, unless court dependence was established at anytime between the ages of 16 and 18. Grant money must be used for vocational school training or college courses. Grant money can also be used to help pay for child care, transportation, and rent while in school. Grants may be used at any eligible California college or university or career or technical school, as well as schools in other states.
