Scholarship Overview

This scholarship is for African American women who are nontraditional students seeking postsecondary education without the support of a spouse. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be 35 years of age or older and must be accepted at an accredited college/university to pursue a bachelor's degree. Applicants' education may have been interrupted by family responsibilities or other personal demands, or they may be entering college for the first time because of these factors. They must also demonstrate a mastery of written communication skills in an essay. Membership in NHBW is not required, but it is desired that scholarship recipients will join the organization after graduating from college and obtaining full-time employment.
