Scholarship Overview
This scholarship is for students from the Duluth-Superior area in Minnesota and Wisconsin who have a 2.75 GPA or higher. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a parent or guardian who is a member of one of the 17 unions affiliated with the Duluth Building Trades Council (Boilermakers Lodge 647, Bricklayers Local 1, Carpenters Local 361, Cement Masons Local 633, Elevator Constructors Local 9, Electrical Workers Local 242, Insulators Local 49, Iron Workers Local 512, Laborers Local 1091, Millwrights Local 1348, Operating Engineers Local 49, Painters Local 106, Plumbers/Steam fitters Local 11, Roofers Local 96, Sheet Metal Workers Local 10, Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, and Teamsters Local 346). Preference will be given to students entering the health care field, but applicants in other fields are encouraged to apply as well. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic record, written recommendations, and seriousness of purpose. A short essay describing what union membership has meant to the student’s family will be considered.
