This program is for Illinois high school seniors graduating in 2014 who are interested in a teaching career. To qualify, students must complete the written nomination online, provide proof of ACT scores, and submit school transcripts. Students may nominate themselves, or teachers and counselors can nominate an outstanding young person. If selected as a Golden Apple Scholar, recipients must earn a bachelor's degree at one of 53 Illinois partner universities. They must also meet 2.5 GPA program requirements, participate in Golden Apple Summer Institutes, obtain Illinois teacher certification, and teach for five years in an Illinois school of need within seven years of graduation. Golden Apple Scholars will receive $2,500 per year for freshman and sophomore years of college, $5,000 for junior and senior years, and $2,000 stipend for participation in each of four Summer Institute experiences.
