Scholarship Overview
This scholarship contest involves participating in a series of poetry recitation competitions. To qualify for this scholarship contest, applicants must be high school students and US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must prepare three poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology and participate in at least one local competition before state finals, which will be held in early spring 2012. Homeschooled students are eligible for the contest if they participate in a competition at a local school or with other local homeschooled students. Winners of state finals will advance to national finals, which will take place May 13-15, 2012, in Washington, DC. Awards will be given to the top nine finishers at national finals. For more information on how to conduct a Poetry Out Loud competition at your school, contact your state Poetry Out Loud coordinator.
