This scholarship is intended to provide educational opportunities for mature women who have been out of the workforce for a period of time, or who need to upgrade their skills or education in order to succeed in her career, or who need to change careers in order to improve their earning ability. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be women who are 17 years of age or older; be residents of Onslow County, North Carolina, for a minimum of six months; be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at an institution of learning that provides degree or certificate programs, but may not be enrolled in graduate or postgraduate work in a college, university or seminary. Applicants must demonstrate that they have been out of the workforce for a period of time, or need to upgrade their skills or education in order to succeed in their career, or need to change careers in order to improve their earning ability. Applicants also must demonstrate financial need. For this scholarship, preference will be given to members of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, North Carolina; to students who are single, separated, divorced, widowed or head-of-household where the husband is unable to work; and students who are 30 years of age or older.
