Scholarship Overview
This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors in West Virginia. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a core and cumulative 3.0 GPA or a "B" average. GED/home-schooled students must attain a 2500 minimum score on the GED. Applicants must have a 22 composite ACT score (at least a 20 in each section); or an SAT critical reading score of 490 and an SAT mathematics score of 480, for a combined score of 1020 (about 1500 three-score equivalent). Applicants for PROMISE Scholarship awards are strongly urged to perform at least 20 hours of unpaid community service while in high school and college. The community service may include, but is not limited to, participating with non-profit, governmental, institutional, or community-based organizations designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, meet the needs of community residents or foster civic responsibility. Scholarship recipients must attend a public or independent educational institution in West Virginia.
