At the geographic center of the United States, Kansas is known as Midway, USA. It’s also popularly known as “The Wheat State” and “The Sunflower State.” When it comes to colleges in Kansas, there are six state-operated public universities, one municipal, one federal, and one military college. There are 19 community colleges and a handful of technical schools, as well. The oldest continuously-operating college in Kansas is Baker University. Kansas weather varies widely depending upon region, while it’s top industries reflect its status is the middle point for the US. Trade, transportation and utilities is the largest area of employment in Kansas, followed by government and then professional and business services. The Sunflower State is home to attractions such as the Strataca and Cosmosphere, as well as the Spencer Museum of Art and Wichita Gardens.
